(00:00):
One great thing about SEC football MediaDays or even going back, and I
could say going back because our nextguest kind of goes back a little bit
with college football media days is gettingthe opportunity to visit with student athletes.
And one of the great things isto play by play guy is the relationships
of getting to know people and gettingto know Jade Baron all the way back
(00:21):
when he was a kindly cougar.Nevertheless, now one of the graybeards,
old heads, is that what yourteammates to still refer to you as Not
really, it's a few ones theyjoked like that, but not much.
Yeah. Yeah, you obviously hadto fight through injuries. You drew so
much admiration for what you did inthe playing in the second half of the
(00:43):
Houston game. We were told pointblank, Jade will not play today,
and all you did was play lightsout in the second half when you came
out there. So what does itmean to you to know that so many
folks were thrilled and relieved to seeyou be able to contribute like that,
and now you are back to leadthis group again. To be put through
(01:03):
those situations and them circumstances like that. People were thrilled kind of I'll give
you honest I'll give you too honestopinion. I kind of I kind of
failed myself to a standpoint just onmy mindset and how how I went about
the business and how I went aboutgoing through those adversities and things like that.
I feel like I could have beenmore positive with myself. I was.
I was kind of so negative attimes and and just kind of figuring
(01:26):
out, trying to figure out whyam I going through these things and things
like that. But at the endof the day, I think I changed
my perspective and I've seen why Iwas going through those things, because God
knew I can handle those things. But at the time I didn't see it.
For that, I kind of wantedto complain to myself about those situations,
not complain out loud, but tomyself and those things, and I
got caught up in the mix ofgoing against myself and then obviously going against
(01:49):
the opponent. But right now I'min a beautiful headspace and a beautiful mindset,
and I feel like when I whenI do go through those things and
adversity and challenges, I know howto adapt and I know how to and
I know who to lean on andput all my trust in God. I
was gonna ask you if you've everhad a negative day in your life,
apparently internalized yet pretty well yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
You're somebody that a lot of peoplewhen you talk to Texas Longhorn fans,
(02:13):
if jah day's out there, goodthings gonna happen. You've been able to
move from position to position, whateverhas been asked of you, You've been
able to handle that. So goinginto this season, I'm not gonna ask
you what position you're gonna play becausethat's probably still underneath and still trying to
get figured out, but getting yourselfready to be as versatile as you are.
What do you attribute that to?I think honestly, the staff we
(02:38):
have they going to figure out whereto put me and when to put me.
But it's not even just about me. I think all of our dbs,
all of our dbs. I justtold someone else, I can name
five safeties that can go play Nickel. I can name five corners that go
play Nickel, so that we allrep at Nickel. Like a lot of
people on defense, we rep atNickel and rep a corner and say things
(03:00):
like that. So we have aversatile staff, like, that's what they
like. They like versatile players, and we recruit versatile players, and they
developed versatile players, so when theydeveloped me, honestly, I can go
play anywhere, and I'm down togo play anywhere that helped benefit the team.
I read it. I asked youlast year on a post game if
there was one you prefer of theother, and I don't even remember the
answer, because you said you likedplaying the ball. Yeah, I just
(03:22):
like playing. You know, beingon the field is amazing and a blessing.
So when you're looked at in termsof that leadership role, because and
it's been well documented how there weretimes because of injuries and being way down
in the numbers that the secondary gaveup some places last year. So how
important is it to you as aleader of this group, in the group
(03:43):
that there is a statistical as wellas practical step up from what you had
a year ago. Knowing just knowingthat I have to do better, and
collectively as a group, we allhave to do better, and we all
have to push each other to astandpoint. And I have to lean on
on a brother when I need toin it, and I have to be
able to pick a brother up whenthey lean on me. But I think
(04:05):
me as my sofa at the mindset, in headspace, I'm ready to go,
and as a group, I thinkwe're collectively ready, ready to go.
Me and Taffle, we're leading theseboys and Taps a great vet and
an amazing player, and he showeda lot of improvement last year. So
so just being able to make surewe get everybody on board and make sure
they just follow us and follow theway. Does he like being called MOOKI?
(04:27):
Yeah, yeah, I call himMike Laughy Taffy, I got a
cool name. Yeah. We're talkingto Jade Barn Flugerville, Conley's own Jah
Day Barn. You know, Jaday, I was thinking about this because a
lot of the great dbs that havebeen at this university and the great wide
receivers that have also been here, they always talk about iron Sharpen's iron.
(04:49):
You got a bunch of new playersthat have come in to play on that
offensive side of the ball. Ifyou're going against these guys every single day
during the summer, working out, grinding, grind and grinding, who are
some of the players that Texas needsto be able to pay attention to because
the fans are looking to put thescoreboard on tilt. I would say,
(05:09):
just have their eyes open for everybody. All the receivers, all the receivers
are electric. You know, CoachSark only recruits electric players, and he
only developed people to be electric. So I say, the entire group,
uh is electric to me, andthen y'all should be excited for the entire
group. I like that you've beenhere, like we said, for a
bit and uh through through uh morethan one coaching staff as well, now
(05:31):
more than one conference. That's kindof a rarity. How excited are you
about this whole new world of theSoutheastern Conference. It's amazing. I keep
hearing how how this is the conferenceto be in, you know this and
that. Obviously we're up for thechallenge and we're gonna love the challenge.
But just talking to coach get Inand and things like that on playing rivalries
and and how what that means forthe university. We have a few rivalry
(05:56):
games this year, so that's goingto be amazing and just in how we
go about it. But playing allthese new teams is going to be amazing
and want for opportunity. It's beengreat talking to you, man, I
know you got to do this carwash thing where everybody gets you and gets
you a chance to talk. Butwe appreciate you taking the time and spending
some time in best of luck thisyear, man, I know this is
the time for you to shine mostdefinitely. I'll see you in Austin,
(06:17):
Texas before he goes take off whenhe man shoot, I want everybody to
understand it just means more in thesec These not crocs, these car Marni's
marneys. Hey, look it's notthat some people be confusing on what they
is. But look there's no confusion. Look money talking bs walk, he
(06:40):
is My man is here already.Thank you. Shave Baron with Us will
continue on Sports Radio A of thirteenunder the zone of the IR Radio app.
