from eight to number seven. The Cavaliers are three and
zero after the successful trip out to Midland, a task Cacito,
I think right now is the best resume in the state.
In six A they ended up one spot after all

(01:02):
of that, nine to eight. So I'll ask Temper about
that as well, because, like he said, it was going
to be a challenge. Sybil o'steel is three and Oh,

Westlake dropped from four to fourteen after it's lost to

they're two and one and Brenham in the poll for
the first time at number ten. They are a perfect

Speaker 2 (06:39):
So there it is. There's your high school football top tens.

Speaker 1 (06:44):
And in the case of six eight top twenty five,
we'll talk more about that next hour with Greg Tepper,
Managing editor Dave campbells Texas Football Magazine. Now for this
Texan Tuesday, Texas Tuesday, we go back to Loghorns. First
of all, Alfred Collins, big ac, who has been in
this program now for a while and of course came
in highly heralded and it slowly worked his way into

(07:06):
becoming a force in the interior of the defensive line.

Speaker 2 (07:10):
And our Will Matthew sat down to business with.

Speaker 3 (07:11):
Him after three games and just this culture culture, everybody
talking about culture and all of the things that are
happening in the media.

Speaker 2 (07:20):
What is your recipe for success?

Speaker 3 (07:21):
I mean, of course coach Stark has the recipe for
the team, but I mean you've had a journey, a
lot of fighting, a lot of to get to where
you're at today.

Speaker 4 (07:29):
Talkers through that, you know, it all comes down to
just routine and being a sponge to like everybody in.

Speaker 5 (07:34):
This facility is elite.

Speaker 4 (07:37):
Just always asking questions because they always have a solution
or help.

Speaker 3 (07:42):
And yea, being a sponge, I think I think that's
it seems like that's important. I know what that is,
but I don't know if our audience really understands what
that means when you're when you're being a sponge and
pulling pulling in information.

Speaker 4 (07:55):
So when I said being a sponge, I'm saying using
your resources. So if you want to talk to somebody
about mental health or something like that, but you don't
want it to be pup, you can talk to so
you can talk to any any any staff.

Speaker 5 (08:08):
Member, and that would lead you in the right direction.

Speaker 4 (08:11):
When it comes to football, just asking questions about the
smallest things. How would this work, how this works, you know,
just not settling, you know what I'm saying, like, continue
to do you.

Speaker 5 (08:22):
Could learn a lot.

Speaker 4 (08:23):
Just the word what's the same you see.

Speaker 5 (08:27):
Learn something new every day. Yeah, you know what I'm saying.

Speaker 3 (08:29):
Yeah, Yeah, taking that stance, it sounds like that's just
a hungry stance.

Speaker 5 (08:34):
I want to learn.

Speaker 3 (08:35):
I want to go what are some of the most
interesting things that you've learned from? Maybe even teammates, nobody
would even think about. What are some things that you've learned?

Speaker 5 (08:46):
For sure?

Speaker 4 (08:47):
Just to stay in true to myself, you know what
I'm saying, stars about what other people think.

Speaker 5 (08:51):
Yeah, but that mean saying true to yourself. I don't
people don't know how.

Speaker 4 (08:54):
To do that now, don't because sometimes people get caught
up in opinions of others.

Speaker 5 (09:00):
At the end of the day, only peing that matter
is man a bug. You know what I'm saying. I
have to figure that out, you know.

Speaker 4 (09:06):
So another thing I learned would be what's fun a
lot of football? You know Coach Bow, I mean all
the D line coaches you know.

Speaker 5 (09:17):
Fed into me a little.

Speaker 4 (09:18):
Really been having Coach Bowl and Coach Baker, you know
them two back to back. You know, I've learned a
lot to buy myself on the field, just technique wise,
keep blocks all that stuff.

Speaker 3 (09:27):
So yeah, and so one last question, what is the
one thing that you found out about yourself throughout this process?

Speaker 5 (09:36):
I found out that's the word nuncinations. But like, oh no,
I said, I found I found the Lord.

Speaker 4 (09:45):
You know what I'm saying, he really he really uh
laid it out for you know what I'm saying that
all this stuff is happening for a reason.

Speaker 5 (09:52):
So continue to con do you doing? Yeah, we would
appreciate your time, sir, Thank you so much.

Speaker 2 (09:57):
Shout you all right, that's what that for, Collins.

Speaker 1 (10:00):
Now here's the conversation that Will had with Quinn Ewers. Now, again,
this happened prior to the injury. That's why there's not
a mention of that, but we thought we should bring
it to you anyway because it's got some good introspection
from yours as well.

Speaker 2 (10:16):
So here's Will's conversation with Quinn.

Speaker 3 (10:19):
What I really want to know is not just about
managing the game, managing the team, managing all of that,
but at the end of the day on everything, when
you sit down, how do you deal.

Speaker 5 (10:33):
With all of the pressure.

Speaker 6 (10:36):
Yeah, I mean it's a good question, for sure. I
think again, I mean I don't the more you're prepared
in anything, the less pressure you're going to feel. And
I think that's what I've really been trying to focus on,
is just be as prepared as possible to not feel
that pressure. And you know, I was talking about it
with the coaches in the off season, and you know,

(10:57):
it's like for for six months out of your life,
you know, that's all.

Speaker 5 (11:04):
That's all it really is.

Speaker 6 (11:05):
It's just six months out of your life to not
feel that pressure and just to prepare the way that
you want to prepare to be able to go out
there and play your high stability and relax and not
have to worry about, you know, not knowing what's going on.

Speaker 3 (11:17):
Is a lot of that have to do with the
community you surround yourself with a lot of interviews I've
done with the team, everybody talks about trust, they talk
about their teammate, they talk about being enamored with what's
in front of them. Is the relationships that you built
on the team help to manage all of this.

Speaker 6 (11:36):
I think so for sure. I mean, got a great
group of dudes in that room for sure or in
that locker room. So I mean they make it easy
wanting to prepare as hard as we do, and you know,
they make it easy for me and for them to
just have each other's back. I mean, it's it's a
really close knit group in there, which I mean, again

(11:58):
i'd sound like I'm a record, but it just makes
everything easy.

Speaker 3 (12:02):
A lot of the team talks about comfort and trust
and building good relationships and the guy next to you,
but what does trust mean to you?

Speaker 5 (12:14):
How do you really build trust? I mean, it's it's
really simple.

Speaker 6 (12:21):
I mean, you go back and look about the non
called late hit, I mean, and you see what the
old line did for me, And I think that just
goes to show the amount of trust that we have
in each other to want to fight for each other.
And again, I mean, it definitely takes time. It's been
three years that we've kind of all and that that room,

(12:42):
that Lineman room and me have kind of been together,
so it definitely takes a little while. And not saying
they wouldn't have done that if that was my first
year together, but it just goes to show, I think
the growth that we've all had together.

Speaker 3 (12:54):
Last question I got is about outward expression. Seeing as
the years that you've come, as you've been on the
team at Texas, like it seems as if the outward
expression of what's going on inside has been way more
out there. After the win this weekend, you were out there,
it seems like you were soaking it all that, talking
through the feelings about that.

Speaker 5 (13:15):
How are you feeling about that?

Speaker 6 (13:16):
Yeah, I mean, I'm just trying to soak it in more,
like you said, and then enjoy the moment, because you know,
you only get so many moments like that, and you know,
earlier in my career, I don't think I really took
advantage of all that, all that sort of thing, you know,
So I just really want to take advantage of that
and enjoy enjoy stuff with my teammates because you know,
it's stuff you're gonna remember for a lifetime.

Speaker 1 (13:38):
Yeah, Quinn, you weres there talking with Will Matthews. And
now more introspection obviously from Quinn dealing with the oblique
strain as well, and hopefully not that serious and may.

Speaker 2 (13:49):
Not keep him out that long.

Speaker 1 (13:51):
