Of the first edit, here's the one to two pitch,
again off speed, hitting the air left field that goes
Crane to the warning track. She leads up, it's off
the top of the wall, bounce it back toward the infield, scoring.
Speaker 2 (00:32):
It leaves easily as Henry Scott comes across the plate,
Atwood to third, and Mitchell misses a home run by
inches a grand.
Speaker 1 (00:41):
Slam in fact, but she does give the long Horns
a lead with a two run double second and third,
just one out for Katie Simmis. First pitch to the
senior is lifted to right field, down the line, coming
over the right fielder. Kreservani makes the catch basket style,

a pitch other than two last year.

She drives.
Speaker 1 (01:10):
The next pitch to left field, back goes Graane. It's
off the wall. Mia around first, hustling per second in
there with a double and they get Henry across the plate.
Speaker 2 (01:19):
Five to one Texas. The other the Botts of the
fourth in line.
Speaker 1 (01:23):
Shot into center field, backing up the center fielder Davy.
He has no chance to get Scott at the plate
and it's six to one Texas. Top line drive left
field line. It's a fair ball. Bristol across the plate easily.
Maloney didn't stop around first base. She's into second. Seven
to two Texas. A couple of really hard hit singles.
(01:45):
First pitch to Outwood, pop up right side, drifting out
this second baseman, right fielder Sirvenni.
Speaker 2 (01:51):
Comes in, misses the ball, two.
Speaker 1 (01:53):
Runs to score. Scott rounding third, crosses the plate and
this game is over.
Speaker 2 (01:58):
One oh right left field, this game is tied.
Speaker 1 (02:02):
What a shot by Stuart across the street one hup
against the Grand Student housing. We're all knotted up one
one n one Now of the count. Pitch live ball
center field that goes Conway to the warning track.
Speaker 2 (02:14):
She looks up. It's gone pitch to Stuart Austein.
Speaker 1 (02:20):
She hits it deep, no doubt or a left and
it's five to one Texas.
Speaker 2 (02:24):
Second of the.
Speaker 1 (02:25):
Game for Stuart, the same distance as her shot in
last inning's leadoff appearance, two hundred and sixty nine feet,
and the long Horns are teeing off under Kowski.
Speaker 2 (02:36):
Two balls, two strikes.
Speaker 1 (02:37):
Swing to the high drive right field that goes Stemens
into the wall.
Speaker 2 (02:40):
She looks up.
Speaker 1 (02:41):
It's gone Bennett with her first home running home of
the season, and it's eight great Texas hold. One pitch,
fly ball right field, hit deep that goes Steamens into
the warning track. Looks up, it's a grand slam for Mitchell.
It doesn't matter who Michigan throws.
Speaker 2 (02:57):
The Longhorns are teeing up.
Speaker 1 (03:00):
While in the box. Here's a high drive to center
field that goes the center fielder Conway and Good hits
a home road just clearing the wall and left center.
A two hundred and thirty six foot shot from Good
verse seventh of the year, thirty third RBI two one.
He it's a soaring fly ball the right high in
the air, the right fielder comes in, Stevenson can't get
(03:22):
to it. The second basement of Lochwa was going over
after it and lost it in the sun and Stuart's
in the second with a sun double. Scott scores to
make it sixteen to four. Third RBI for Katie Stewart.
Speaker 2 (03:34):
In this one treat.
Speaker 1 (03:35):
Two pitch, there's the change up swinging a miss with
the Longhorns winning, Sofia Simpson strikes out the side and
admits of issuing a walk in the bottom of the
fifth inning in Texas obliterates Michigan sixteen to four in
the winner's bracket game of the Austin Regional.
Speaker 3 (03:57):
From Eldale Mitchell Ballpark in Norman, Oklahoma. It's the regular
season finale the Texas Loghorns and the Oklahoma Sooners. The
two ball ones strike pitch coming and it got the
runner picked off Choosler a throw down the second right
there the tag from Mendoza one three to four on
the pickoff. Great move by Luke Harrison, and the inning
(04:17):
is over. The pitch swung on a hard hit ground
ball and it's through on the left side of base
hit trotting him to score from third is Bendoza Ryland.
Galvan gets a fastball, knocks it through on the left side,
past the diving third baseman Dawson Willis. The Loghorns are
on the board. They lead it one to nothing. Here's
the two to one pitch swung onto the ground, ball
(04:37):
hit over the third. They come home and juggling the
ball and dropping it as they catch her muddler. The
log Horns score the run on the play on the
fielder's choice. There's still only one out. Runners on the corners.
The Texas is back in front two to one. Here's
the stretch from Jones, the one ball, one strike pitch
to Ryan like Galvandy'd hit him, It hit him in
a run, will score. In fact, it hit him, and
(04:59):
that hurt. He is down but rising to his feet.
It hit him on the toes on the left foot,
and he's hobbling, but he will walk to first base.
Tommy Farmer's already back in the dugout. He came racing
home on the hit batter, certainly concerned for Galvin to
make sure he's all right, talking with training staff and
(05:20):
with head coach him Slasnagel. But he'll take first base.
He'll be credited with an RBI scoring from third is
Timmy Farmer, and it's now three to one. Texas revolves
two strikes, two outs. Gavin Jones, the left handed with
a payoff pitch to Adrien Rodriguez, and he swings in
a ground ball back up the middle and the third
(05:41):
to first. In time, they say, Walghorns will almost certainly
challenge this if what in the inning is the case
a rod thinks he beat it out, and they will
definitely review this. Yep Loalghorns will certainly challenge it. Here yep.
(06:03):
A third run crosses the plate. It's an infield single,
another hit against the left handed pitcher, and an infield
single for Adrian Rodriguez, scoring Casey.
Speaker 2 (06:15):
Borba from third, third run of.
Speaker 3 (06:17):
The inning, and the log Worns now lead at four
to one. Thomas with the two swinging a miss, good morning,
get afternoon and good night. Thomas Burns comes out of
the bullpen and then some with the delay and strikes
out the side. In the seventh swung on in a
ball hit well out the deep left, back to the
warning track. You can sag night to it. On an
(06:38):
O two pitch, casey Borba drives it out of the
ballpark his tenth home run of the year, and the
log Worns tack on two more. They lead it six
to one, and he swings here and hits the ball
well down the left field line, and you can Sago
night to it line drive home run right over the
left field wall.
Speaker 2 (07:00):
Three more runs.
Speaker 3 (07:01):
Cross the plate. Kimballs Schusler with his seventh home run
of the year, and it's a nine to one Texas
League to Sam Christiansen swing and a miss struck him out,
and that'll do it. When the Texas Loghorns close out
the regular season in dominant fashion, pulling away late with
(07:22):
three in the seven, two in the eighth, and three
in the ninth, the Loghorns beat the Oklahoma Sooners nine
to one, and they take the series from Ou to
finish the regular season at forty two and eleven and
twenty two and eight in Southeastern Conference play. Next top
the SEC Tournament in the ninth one to two, three
(07:44):
goes Oklahoma. Final score here this afternoon into this evening,
the Texas Longhorns nine. The Oklahoma Sooners won had.
Speaker 1 (07:54):
A home run yesterday as well as solid single the
right field. Here's the swings five at the center field
that goes.
Speaker 2 (07:58):
Sibon looks up on.
Speaker 1 (08:02):
Lehanne Good ambushes the first pitch from Vega, a two
hundred and fifty foot shot to center, seventy five mile
an hour eggs of velocity, and the Longhorns lead here.
The second two to nothing, we're gonna drive left field.
Speaker 2 (08:13):
That goes Rady.
Speaker 1 (08:14):
She looks up, it's gone. Atwood didn't get all of that,
just seventy two mile an hour eggs and velocity two
hundred and forty feet, but she got enough and the
Longhorns double their lead here. In the fifth inning, it's
four to nothing Andresoo two. That's another home run by
and deep to left from Attwood. A two homer game,
(08:34):
and it's six to nothing Texas. In the seventh inning,
the high chop over the short stop and into left
field all the way across the plate is good and Maloney,
with her second hit of the game, makes it nine
to nothing. Two and two on Evans two out mass empty.
Speaker 2 (08:50):
In the seventh the pitch tapped left side of the circle.
Speaker 1 (08:54):
Camon collects Pros in time and the Longhorns sweep the regional.
The Texas Longhorns run rough shot over the competition at
the Austin Regional and the Longhorns are going back to
the Super Regional round for the sixth time and six
(09:15):
postseasons under Mike White.
Speaker 3 (09:20):
It was quite the busy weekend as you might imagine.
They're especially on the diamonds for Texas baseball and softball.
Get afternoon, everybody. Welcome to the program here on AM
thirteen hundred zone. My name is Craig Wait. Thanks very
much for joining us. A producer so expertly crafted that
opening montage for you is Cameron D. Parker. The D
(09:41):
on the birth certificate stands for Dallas, as in being
named for his dad's favorite pro football team, which became
his favorite even though he doesn't want to watch them
right now or follow them right now, The Dallas Cowboys.
That would be Cameron D. Parker, but the D also
stands for him for the Dallas Stars, who have qualified
for the final four of the NHL, the Stanley Cup
(10:03):
Playoffs and game wednes tonight.
Speaker 4 (10:06):
Isn't it camp for this scheduling? On both the NHL
side and NBA side's crazy?
Speaker 1 (10:12):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (10:12):
I mean Western Conference Finals begins tomorrow for okay, so
just played Game seven yesterday, right the Eastern Conference Finals
starts the day after on Wednesday for some reason, and
they finished on Friday. Edmonton Dallas is Wednesday night. Wednesday night, okay,
so at least they get some time off. Okay, all right,
So that's that's good.
Speaker 3 (10:28):
When is the Eastern fiveway it would have today? Hockey? Yeah,
it would have to be Tuesday or Wednesday because they
just finished tomorrow tomorrow at seven. Wow see. And Florida
just finished off Toronto last night. So they'll take it
on the Carolina Hurricanes and East. So Camp's favorite NHL
team is in the final four. My favorite NHL team
is in the final four. We continue to say, keep
(10:51):
a moving toward meeting each other in a climactic NHL
Stanley Cup Final. It would be great meantime NBA for
Cameron Park. His team just absolutely obliterated the Denver Nuggets
in Game seven. They finally shook off the pesky Nuggets
with a blowouts. So the Thunder now in the Western
(11:11):
Conference Finals to meet Anthony Edwards in the Minnesota Timberwolves.
It's gonna be fun.
Speaker 4 (11:19):
First time since twenty sixteen that Okaysee returns the Western
Conference Finals. It's gonna be a great series. Craig, two
young uber athletic teams. You have the Anthony Edwards for
Shay storyline, which would be a lot of fun. The
renaissance of Julius Randall, of course from Texas, who's just
(11:40):
been fantastic in these playoffs.
Speaker 3 (11:42):
It truly is reals for him because he he was
from South o'cliff and I remember doing state tournament that
he played in, by the way, and if I remember correctly,
South Ofcliffe got stripped to that state title because he
was an eliger or something. Anywhiw they're going to Kansas, Yeah,
so you're right. So there's that in the Eastern Conference
finals is one that a lot of people are liking
(12:05):
because it's someone other than Boston in it. You have
the Knicks in their first conference finals in twenty five
years playing the Indiana Pacers on that that should be
a lot of fun. A lot of themes on that,
you know, and with TNT doing the East, so Reggie
Miller will be sitting courtside of he and Spike Lee
can point at one another during the course of the
thing like they did back in the day. What was
(12:26):
that ninety or two thousand and four or something like that.
One that was going on when they were doing that.
Speaker 4 (12:31):
It'll be fun just to see who's sitting courtside right
I mean, I'm sure you know, Anthony Mason and Patrick
Ewing will be out there. We'll get some John Stockton clips,
will Larry Bird be out there, Rick Smith's, you know,
Reggie Miller. It'll be a lot of fun. Indiana back
to back conference finals years. They're probably the most underrated
team out of the Fork. Craig, I think a lot
of attentions is given to New York because obviously a
(12:51):
bigger market, bigger team, bigger stars. What they're doing with
Jaylen Brunson has been phenomenal. It'll be a fun series
on that end too. I'm super excited for the playoffs
right now and what we're gonna get into the.
Speaker 3 (13:04):
Finals, which would be a lot of fun, Which can
only mean you're super excited for Scotty Seffler.
Speaker 4 (13:08):
Winning the PGA. Did you see that coming a little bit?
I figured it was gonna come from one of the
big three. I thought it's either going to come from Bryson,
Rory or Scotty. And hey, you know, just like the Masters,
Bryson push made his push. He led on Saturday at
one point, as did Jonathan Vegas. You know, huge for
Johnny v didn't finish like he wanted to, but top ten.
(13:31):
He'll he'll be back in next year's PGA. He'll be
into the top fifty down the world. So he'll be
playing at the US Open this year. Awesome for him
and for for the weekend. You know, Roy just didn't
have his stuff, didn't have his driver. Maybe there's a
little bit of a hangover there from winning the Masters.
Speaker 3 (13:45):
Well, and they made him put away the driver he
had been using, right, they said that driver wasn't allowed
or something that after the first or second round he
wasn't happy about that and had to go to a
different driver. Well, Scotty Shefford too. Scotty won.
Speaker 4 (13:57):
So he said in this press conference yesterday that his
driver was deemed non conforming, which it's usually the player
has no idea. It's more so that because you know,
they're bashing driver and driver and driver. The way these
driver heads are now made, it's so easy for them
to get for the face to kind of get indented,
(14:18):
is the easiest way to explain. And that's what they
mean by like non conforming. You know, they just know,
the sweet spot has hit too many times because these
guys are pretty good. So yeah, and it probably happens
a lot more than we realized. I mean, because it
was Rory and Scotty, it became a bigger deal. But
I'm sure it happens to a lot of other you know,
driver other other golfers. We just don't hear about it.
But for Scotty, you know, he kind of waver in
(14:40):
the front nine. Craig going left, he said, I just
couldn't stop hitting the left and his drive on too
so lucky because it hit the cart path and bounced
all the way down the left side of the fairway
on two to where he only had eighty yards into
the pin. He had passed all the trees, ended up
making an incredible two. But outside of that he could
have gone bogey. Bogey was hanging on for deer life,
(15:00):
and then on the tenth hole found it and that
was it. He played the you know, Saturday, he played
the last five holes five hundred par and then yesterday
just completely outclassed Quill Holl in the back nine, and
you know, for a moment there, you know, it was
Scottie Ram and Bryson and Bryson just didn't have it
with his irons again. And for Rom, I mean he's
sitting there, were tied, they're tied, yeah, And then got
(15:22):
to the fourteenth green, fourteenth I drivable par four and
Rom gets, you know, gets the real bad bounce into
the bunker, ends up making par on a hole he
probably should.
Speaker 3 (15:32):
Have made burgie one.
Speaker 4 (15:33):
We're lipped out, yeah, and then he goes to the
par five the next hole, it's an incredible iron, goes
just past the green and he tries to putt right
and blows it right back to the hole, a hole
he needs to make birdie on, ends up making par.
So that's back to back holes where he could have
been at eleven under Craig, he could have had the
outright lead. Instead goes uh par par, ends up making
a really bad bogey on sixteen and seventeen eighteen both
(15:56):
finds of water. He went from tie for the lead
to finishing I think what with Jonathan Vegas. So he
completely just yeaded out of the tournament. But hey, it
produced a great finish and for Scotti Scheffler now three
major championships. He ties Jordan Speith as former Longhorns to
have three major championships, and.
Speaker 3 (16:14):
He's halfway to a career Grand Slam at age twenty eight,
and is only the third golfer to get fifteen career
victories before the age of twenty nine. This was one
of those absolutely astounding numbers that I heard them talk
about and looked it up. Only two other golfers have
achieved fifteen or more victories on the tour before the
(16:35):
age of twenty nine, their names Jack Nicholas and Tiger Woods.
So rarefied air and coming up at inconceivable. We'll get
some other stuff about this. This is some weird stuff
that happened between with Rory and Rom and the money
that's being accrued out of this, we'll get to. That's
part of Inconceivable as well. So we're gonna get taller.
(16:56):
What did you just say that, Rom? Did he yeaded that?
What did you say? Have you heard that before? Yeat
it out of the tournament?
Speaker 4 (17:02):
He just ejected himself from the turn I got Joe said, Hey,
I'm time for the lead, but respectfully, I'm going to
eject myself from the tournament and let's cut you.
Speaker 3 (17:10):
I got ja, okay, all right, So we've got some
side elements of all of that as part of Inconceivable today.
But there's obviously a lot of college baseball to talk about.
The Texas Longhorns are the outright SEC champions. They won
it by two games. They're the number one seed in
the tournament, probably going to be the number one of
(17:31):
overall CDNC at tournament. We've got the latest set of projections.
We'll go through all of that. We'll talk about Texas softball.
And I'm not doing this to rub this in. I'm
not like that we just talk about this stuff. But
what has happened in Texas A and M has been
just inconceivable as well baseball and now softball as well
(17:51):
with some of the other stuff. Give credit to their
women's tennis team. They got to the national championship reblem
before they lost yesterday as well, but at least they
got to the national finals. So it's it's crazy some
of the stuff that's happened that. But we're gonna get
to a lot of things there. We invite you, as
always if you like to join in the conversation with
your texts. You can text the program text the word
Texas follow by your question or comment to eight one
(18:13):
five three zero. That's the word Texas, follow by your
question or comment to eight one five three zero. Standard
messaging and data rates may apply. We'll continue here on
a Monday. I'm thirteen under the zone.
Speaker 5 (18:30):
It's the craig Way Show with the voice of the
Texas Longhorns and Hall of Fame Broadcasting Craig Way.
Speaker 3 (18:46):
Fitch, Luke Swainson hits them all well this week. Out
to deep centers, back to the morning track.
Speaker 2 (18:52):
You can sing anit to it.
Speaker 3 (18:54):
Welcome back, Max Balloon, a bomb off the wall. The
batter's I had at center and the log warns now
leaded seven to four. The log warns one strike away,
no bowls, two strikes, two outs, still in Valantis, the stretch,
the two pitch swing, and a mess he struck him out.
(19:18):
In their first season as a member of the Southeastern Conference.
The Texas log warns are SEC champions here on the Monday.
That happened on Thursday night. Those things, by the way,
that brought about a bit more conversation, the whole thing
about clinching the SEC championship. Then I realized there were
(19:42):
a lot of folks going well at the time they
won it. At the time they won the game, they
hadn't clinched it right. The answer, the correct answer is
they had clinched by winning seven to four on that
Max Blue home run, at least a share of the title.
But also it is true that at the time that
(20:04):
I made that call, Arkansas was down seven to three
in the bottom of the gate to Tennessee. So all
it was going to take was an Arkansas also one
where Texas went for them to be outright champions. So
that's why I just went ahead and said they are
SEC champions. I never said outright. I said they were
SEC champions and they weren't. That was all correct, but
it really became correct outright champions about twenty minutes after
(20:29):
Texas had won the ballgame, when Tennessee defeated Arkansas. So
it all worked out. It was all you know, it
was all official, it was all correct, it was all proper,
all those kinds of things. But then something else happened.
I told this story on the air on Saturday during
(20:49):
the final game of the regular season. I wasn't going
to tell the story because to me, it was a
little bit embarrassing, So I wasn't going to I wasn't
gonna tell I was just gonna smile and think of
it as a nice moment during the course of this season.
But when Casey Borba hit the home run to make
(21:09):
it six to one, there after they'd resume play after
the whatever it was our fifty minute weather delay, and
Texas was up four to one in the seventh, and
then in the eighth Borba hits the two run homer
to make it sixth one of them. The course, Schusler
hits the three run homer in the ninth to give
him the final margin to nine to one. But when
(21:30):
Borba hit the home run, Uh, it kind of came
into my mind to tell the story because Casey was
one of the ones laughing and cheering, you might say,
the hardest. What what happened was when I got to
the ballpark on Saturday, and I have my own routine,
just like you know the players do and the coaches
doing all this other kind of stuff. Have my routine
(21:51):
about how setting up the equipment in the booth, Uh,
setting up a wireless microphone so here they could pop
the mid and the ping of the bat and the
umpire is calling all that kind of stuff. That's a
wireless mic we use on the road. Sometimes on the
home games, we also get a effects feed, but those
microphones are sometimes coming at from angles near each dugout,
(22:15):
so you don't get quite the pop and the ping
that you like to have off of that. So we
put a wireless mic down there as well. So I
go through that, and then I tape up the team
statistics for both sides, both overall and in conference play,
and the rosters box scores from the prior games, and
when you get to the final game of a series,
what their series stats are, what they've done through the
(22:36):
first two games combined. Put all that up so where
it's easy reference that I can look at and say,
you know, Casey Boorba's batten three point twenty here this weekend,
he's got three hits and blah blah blah, you know,
whatever it is. I can make that reference by just
looking at the stuff pending up the wall. So I
have my own routines for doing it, just like any
(22:58):
other broadcaster does. Part of the routine also is, obviously
I go down to the field, this is well before
the game, and I record the pregame interview, which I
am Slasnigle. Now Schlost likes to record it at home.
He usually likes to do it about three hours out,
which is fine, works fine with the schedule. On the road,
(23:22):
he likes to do it as soon as they get
to the ballpark, which is like two hours out, so
that's fine. And I usually get to the ballpark three
hours four hours prior because of all the other busy
work that I want to do and get the boots
set up the way I want and all that other
kind of stuff. And then of course on home games here,
you know, we have this show to do. So I'm
actually at the ballpark by like noon to twelve thirty,
(23:43):
like on Tuesdays or Thursdays or Fridays when there's a game,
since there's a show to do prior, so I get
there early. But then the team arrives on the road
two hours before first pitch, so I'm down there when
the team comes in, and then coach last Nagle and
I record the pregame interview. This was what happened on Saturday.
(24:05):
I had gotten there early enough along with Keith Morland,
and we set up things for the booth and all
that other kind of stuff, and then I go down
to the field because it was getting close to noon
because they and the team was going to arrive at
noon since the first pitch was at two o'clock. So
I get down to the field, the team does arrive.
They all walk in down long from there, down the
(24:27):
far down the right field line is near the parking
lot where the buses would park there at el Dale
Mitchell Ballpark. So they all walk down to the dugout
and the coaches walk down there. So coach Lastangle comes
up and Jim and I go over to the side
and we record the pregame interview. So we do that,
so we're inside of two hours out now, so we
(24:47):
record the interview. Interview finishes, I'm walking back the opposite
way to go to this little gate to go up
through the stands to get to the concourse to go
into the press box, to go into the broadcast book.
And as I walked past the dugout and I go
to make the right turn, most of the players are
(25:09):
gathered just beyond where I was, up the right field
line a little bit and then and and that's a
completely normal thing. They're getting stretched out and loose and
all this stuff. So I'm not even paying attention that
I don't even notice it, and I start to turn
and to hear a voice call out me and goes, hey, Craig, Craig,
And I turn and it's Max Blue and he's walking
(25:31):
up to me, and I'm like, yeah, uh, what's up Max?
He said, uh, I need to hear say good night
to this one and I went what? And he said,
I need to hear SA good night to this one.
And I said and so I instantly thought, what he's
talking about is the home run call of what you
(25:52):
just heard? What Cam just played and dramatic home run
top of the ninth blasted off the batter's eye. So
I said, hold on and I get I get the
phone and I start to find the call that had
been sent to me by Cole Dixon, our producer that night,
and I'm like scrolling through. But as I start to
do that, and I noticed how the corner of my eye,
(26:13):
the rest of the team is walking up. And Max said, no, no, no, no, no,
I want to hear you say it. I said, well, yeah,
I gotta hear heause. No no, no, I want to
hear you say it right now. I'm like, oh, no,
don't know. He goes, yeah, come on, come on. I
gotta hear it. I gotta hear it. I gotta hear it.
And I'm like, just say it. He's like, yeah, yeah,
I want I want to hear you. I'm like, all right,
(26:34):
and so I pause for a second just so I
can kind of get into a mental frame of mind.
So I just pause for a second while they're standing
there now. Virtually the entire team's standing there nearby now.
And so when I just belt it out there and
I go, here's the pitch to here's the pitch to
blue Max Wings, and there's a high flyball out to
deep center back to the warning track, you could say
(26:55):
goodnight to it. When I said it, they all just
went yeah, started. I thought, very easy to please. I
went up and Borba was one of the ones laughing
and jumping around. So I felt kind of a little
silly about it, and I wasn't gonna say anything about it.
But when Borba hit the home run, I thought, okay,
(27:17):
all right, it's okay to say. And then didn't you
say that? Max's mom responded to because you put it
on Instagram? Did you not? Cam?
Speaker 2 (27:26):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (27:26):
I think I put it up on Saturday, actually, and
I believe she commented if you don't follow us on
social media? Guys, what are you doing? Thirteen hundred the
zone we took ut. Obviously they have a great camera crew,
and so we remixed their video and I just added
in your call of mad.
Speaker 3 (27:44):
Max Adam Doyle and his guys do a fabulous job
with all of that. Other's some great stuff. So they
had like the camera showing him running the baselines, and
then you put the call on it, and then she
responded to it. You said, yeah, I'm guessing.
Speaker 4 (27:56):
Actually I don't know Max's family, so I don't know
if it's yeah, for sure, his mother or just an
honor someone. But the comment, because the caption was are
you still thinking about Max's home run?
Speaker 3 (28:09):
Right? And she commented, I am, And this account was
Diane Blue, Okay, okay, all right, well there it is
from Alito, Texas, USA, So there it is. But they
they all got a big kick out of it, and
that was fine. Like I, like I said on the broadcast, there,
I'm here to serve. Just wanted to hear He just
(28:29):
wanted to hear me say it. He just wanted to
hear me, And I misunderstood him, for I thought he
wanted to hear the call because someone might have sent
it to him or it played it or something, and
he wanted to hear it again. In the moment, I'm like,
well here, let me pull it up. No, no, no, no,
I want to hear you say it. Wanted to see
(28:51):
me actually voice the words, and so that's what it was.
I felt a little silly about it at the time,
but that was okay. I mean, they all felt good.
They went out, they won the ball game. That's the
main thing is that this team bounced back. They won
the series and wound up being outright SEC champs by
two games over Arkansas, and they're going to be the
(29:14):
one seed in the SEC tournament. I guess we should
tell folks how this is going to work on Thursday.
Right Thursday, they play at three o'clock, So Cam will
carry the show from two to two forty five and
I'll do a check in with him. So we'll do
that two to two forty five on Thursday. Thursday's pretty
big day because saftball also opens play hosting the Super
(29:34):
Region What eight o'clock Thursday night.
Speaker 4 (29:37):
Seven forty five air time all three games. By the way,
we'll be at seven forty five eight o'clock first pitch.
Speaker 3 (29:42):
How about that? All right? So that'll be a seven
forty five air time eight o'clock first pitch Texas and
Clemson in the nca Sawball Super Regional. And then early
in the afternoon, of course, which you'll be able to
hear on the zone at least the vast majority of
it will be at three o'clock. Texas will play one
(30:02):
of three teams Tennessee, Alabama, or Missouri. I don't think
it'll be Missouri. Missouri went three and twenty four in
the SEC. There are only three wins. We're in College Station.
How bizarre was at They finished in sixteenth place, but
all sixteen teams make the SEC tournament. They will play
Alabama on tomorrow on Tuesday. Tournament starts tomorrow. Now Texas
(30:25):
isn't flying there until Wednesday. We leave Wednesday and I'll
be flying with them. But they play tomorrow. The winner
of the Alabama Missouri game, probably Alabama, will play Tennessee
on Wednesday. The winner of that game will play Texas
on Thursday. Texas gets the double by That game will
be at three o'clock and you'll hear it here. On
(30:46):
thirteen Hundredson at least at the start. Two forty five
is the pregame start time in the first pitch at three.
Now we ran into this because of the storm delay
on Saturday at Is it at five point fifty? Is
that right? Because they're in Charlotte, correct cam the Round
Rock Express, their pregame starts in five point fifty. We
(31:08):
are required by contract and it was something that was
put in works long before any of us got here
or got back here from Acrosstown or anything like that.
So I try to explain that the people who complained
or whatever, But five point fifty is the pregame start
time here on the zone for Round Rock Express. So
the game might be over or close to over, but
(31:30):
wherever it is, the game, which will also be broadcast
at the same time on one oh three point one FM,
will conclude on one oh three point one FM, and
also all the way through from start to finish, starting
with the pregame all the way to the tail end.
It'll be heard on the iHeartRadio app, Texas long Horns app,
LHN app online at Texas longrns dot com. You got
(31:52):
plenty of ways to pull the broadcast in. It will
be on the zone up until five to fifty. Now,
maybe the game goes two forty or whatever and then
we're done and off the air whatever. Maybe not, but
just understand that's the situation and it'll finish on the
other So anyway, that's how it's going to be on Thursday.
All right, when we come back, we have inconceivable when
we continue on thirteen under the Zone, second hour of
(32:13):
the program here on thirteen hundred of the Zone, Craig
Way alongside the producer Cameron Parker. Glad to have you
with us on this Monday afternoon, coming off that very
very busy weekend. Texas Longhorn Baseball wrapping up the Southeastern
Conference championship in its first season in the SEC. Texas
Softball going to its sixth consecutive Super Regionals all six
(32:37):
seasons under head coach Mike White. The Longhorns have made
the Super Regionals in all six seasons. Pretty impressive stuff.
And they begin Super Regional play Thursday night, eight o'clock
and that'll be with a seven to forty five pre
game start time and at eight o'clock first pitch. And I'm
(33:01):
trying to remember which HD one is that Retro Austin
on the free iHeart radio app there, it is there.
It is Retro Austin on the free iHeart radio app.
Here Andrew Haynes with a call about Texas Longhorns against
the Clemson Tigers. So that's on Thursday. Also on Thursday,
but Thursday afternoon, Long Horn Baseball begins play in the
(33:22):
Southeastern Conference Tournament. As Texas will open as the number
one seed in the SEC tournament and they will take
on somebody we don't really know yet. We'll know until
after Wednesday who they face. It's one of three schools,
(33:44):
the unlikeliest of which would be Missouri. They finished in
sixteenth place in the in the SEC and so not
only did they finish in debt last they only won
three conference games. They went three and twenty four and
(34:07):
the three wins, as we know, we're over Texas, A
and M in college station that is now turning out
looking at it the further you get away from it
to be incredibly damaging for the Aggies because despite being
swept by Texas, they turned around and took two out
of three from LSU and LSU team, by the way,
which is still number one in the nation in the polls.
Now there's a difference between the polls and what the
(34:28):
projections would say and all that, and we'll get to
all of that here in a few minutes. But the
way it turned out is they won two out of
three at home against LSU after being swept by Texas,
so and that was after taking two or three at Arkansas.
So they were on a bit of a role going
(34:49):
into the series in Austin. Then they got swept by Texas.
Then they took two or three from LSU, so you thought, okay,
the Aggies are probably back on track.
Speaker 4 (34:57):
Now.
Speaker 3 (34:57):
We asked Kendall Rodgers a D one Baseball dot Com
on this program last Tuesday, what do they need to do?
But that was coming off of the Missouri series, because
prior to going to Colombia at the time, they were
ten and fourteen and in conference play. And at the
(35:23):
time I say going to Columbia, having Missouri come to
them at the time, they were ten and fourteen, and
Kendall had said, let them get the thirteen or fourteen
conference wins and they're probably going to be in the
NCAA tournament. Might have to win a game in Hoover
at the SEC tournament. Did they'd be in pretty good check.
(35:44):
Then they lost all three games at home to a
Missouri team that the RPI was one fifty six. And
so then when we had Kendall on last Tuesday, he said,
I don't think there's a path for them to get
in now short of winning the SEC tournament, getting the autobid,
the upright automatic bit. And I said, well, you'd mentioned
before the Missouri series that to check with you if
(36:07):
they got the thirteen or fourteen wins, I said, they're
going to Georgia. If they go to Georgia and sweep
all three games and finished, that would be thirteen wins.
It would be thirteen. He goes, yeah, but the damage
done from losing that, they dropped twenty four spots in
the RPI from fifty five to seventy nine by that happening.
(36:30):
And he said that the damage that was done out
of that might be irreparable. Let's just see how it
goes in Georgia. Well, they lost the Friday game. They
jumped out of a bit quickly, they were up three nothing.
They ended up losing ten to six. I think that
was Thursday Friday. Justin Lampkin, great performance, complete game, shutout,
(36:50):
and the Aggie shutout Georgia to win the second game.
I think sixty nothing was the final, but or seven nothing,
but they pitched, did really well and won that. Then
that was when Friday then came back Saturday and lost
late to Georgia. So they dropped two out of three.
So Texas A and M finished eleven and nineteen, and
their RPI isn't great for a team trying to get
(37:12):
in as an at lard. So if you refer back
to what Kennel Rodgers was saying, the chances are they're
probably not going to get in short of winning five
games on five days, like I said, be Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday.
(37:38):
I think they'd have one day off, they'd have Thursday off, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday,
Saturday Sunday. They win five games in six days. Short
of that, they probably would not be able to get
in to a regional. A tough weekend for him. Okay,
here's a couple of things to announce. First of all,
(38:00):
we were speaking of Justin Lambkin and in the final
regular season awards Weekly Awards, the keep coming up with
the end of the Year awards. The final regular season
awards came out and Justin Lampkin won the Pitcher of
(38:24):
the Week honor for that complete game shutout. And then
the end of season awards came out as well. See
I'm looking at yeah here, okay, all right, So the
end of the end of season awards came out and
and here they are.
Speaker 2 (38:46):
A and M.
Speaker 3 (38:47):
By the way, did have one award for the season.
It was for the Scholar Athlete of the Year for baseball.
That was Ryan Prager, their usual game one starter of
their weekend series. SEC Player of the Week the Heiva Alloi,
the shortstop from Arkansas, No argument there. He had a
(39:07):
great year. Started every game this season at shortstop for
the Razorbacks. Leads a team of eighteen homers fifty eight
RBIs led all SEC players during the year and runs
scored with seventy two and base hits with eighty two.
He had eighty two hits twice. Named SEC Player of
the Week and named the semifinals for the Golden Spikes Award.
(39:29):
So be Heva Loy of Arkansas the SEC Player of
the Year. Pitcher of the Year, Liam Doyle, the Tennessee
left hander enters the postseason with nine wins, leads the
nation with one hundred and thirty seven strikeouts. He held
batters to a one seventy one average and has been
the starter for two combined no hitters for the Volunteers
(39:49):
this year. Also named the semifinals for the Golden Spikes Ard.
And by the way, if you're doing the math in
your head, I'm inclined to agree with you if you're
thinking that Tennessee may try to roll the dice and
save him to match up with Texas on Thursday. Remember
the volunteers have to play Wednesday. And I'll go over
the tournament format a little bit here, but I think Tennessee,
(40:15):
which gets a A, gets a single. Buy what you know?
They wait for the winner of Arkansas and Missouri. Tennessee's
the eighth seed. They fell all the way to the
eight seed, largely through tie breakers after dropping two out
of three of the week in Arkansas. So they're gonna
play the winner of the Arkansas Missouri game, which is probably,
excuse me, Alabama Missouri game. Alabama is the nine seed,
(40:39):
Missouri's the sixteen seed, Tennessee's the eight seed. They're gonna
play the winner of the matchup between Alabama and Missouri,
It's probably gonna be Alabama, and I think Tony Vaiitello
will probably roll the dice and pitch somebody else against
the Crimson Tide, hoping the secure win there bring Liam
Doyle back on. It wouldn't even be full rest. He'd
(41:00):
be one day shy of full rest anyway. So that's
why I don't think he would pitch against Alabama on Wednesday,
but I think he would probably save him for Texas
on Thursday. So they may be going up against the
SEC pitcher of the Year, Okay, SEC Freshman the Year,
speaking of Texas, Dylan Valantis. He got it set an
(41:21):
SEC record for freshmen with eleven saves and conference games.
He leads all SEC players with a one five to
nine ERA, and of course he's four and oh with
twelve saves. Now, Dyl want to be the first to
tell you that he vultured the win on Friday because
or Thursday in the first game of the Oklahoma series,
because Texas had the lead. He came on in the
(41:42):
eighth and the lead got away in the eighth. He
allowed a run in the eighth, but then the blue
home run set the stage for him to get the
win in the ninth and he did retire the Razorbacks
in the ninth and so he got the win. So
he's four and oh and a one five to ninety
RA with twelve total saves, eleven in conference play, and
(42:03):
he's one of eight SEC players to be named a
Golden Spikes Award finalist. Okay SEC Newcomer of the Year.
Ace Reese of Mississippi State Dudes hitting four oh two
right now four oh two fifteen ombers forty nine hit
slugging percentage of eight sixty nine and overall now the
(42:27):
four oh two is in conference play and overall hitting
three sixty nine with twenty one homer sixty six RBIs
second winner of the SEC Baseball Newcomer of the Year
award is now presented to a first year transfer. I
mentioned that Ryan Prager won the Scholar Athlete of the
Year honor. He has a three six five GPA in
the Maze Business School. The Coach of the Year Jimmy
(42:51):
slas Nigle ooh Coach of the Year first year in
the SEC and they win the SEC title. It's his
first time to win SEC Coach of the Year. He
did not win it in his three seasons in College Station,
but he won it there.
Speaker 4 (43:08):
So ugh rough Monday morning for our little brother in
College Station. Well, a lot of reasons.
Speaker 3 (43:14):
Yeah, we'll talk about that coming up. We need to
break and we'll get some of that because we're going
to talk some softball as well. But we've got the
baseball regional projections to get to and if you've got
some questions all in the text line, we'll get to
do's as well. Here on a Monday, I'm thirteen under
the Zone.
Speaker 5 (43:32):
Welcome back to the craig Way Show and the voice
of the Longhorns. Craig Way. Follow Craig on social media
at Horn Boys.
Speaker 3 (44:00):
We welcome you back here on this Monday afternoon. A
little overcast outside. I was supposed to clear off during
the course of the rest of the week. We're being
doing that, so glad to have you with us. I
did not see did you see the John Oliver bit
on Minor League mascot?
Speaker 4 (44:20):
I haven't watched it, but I know about it. Some
of the texted in about that, so good things funny,
gotta be fine. I haven't seen it, so check it
out tonight.
Speaker 1 (44:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (44:30):
Yeah, because Minor League mascots are pretty funny when you
think about it. There's some. There's some that are just
because they range from being all sorts of beasts, both
real and imaginary, to atmospheric weather conditions. Two edible food
(44:54):
items without even having seen the John Oliver bit on
it and I'll have to watch it. I did that.
That's I can just tell you right there that by
itself has some funny stuff. So anyway, there's nothing of that.
By the way, when I was doing the SEC base
Ball Awards, I mentioned Player of the Year of the
Heava Lloyd from Arkansas, Pitcher of the Year Liam Doyle
to Tennessee Freshman of the Year Dylan Blantis from Texas,
(45:16):
Newcomer of the Year Ace Reees of Mississippi State, Scholar
Athlete of the Year Ryan Prager at Texas A and M,
and Coach of the Year Jim Slasnigle from Texas. I
didn't mention the first team and All Defensive team, the
all first team and second team in All Defensive So
here they are, by the way, First Team All SEC
(45:40):
catcher Rylan Galvan, good for him. Also there are two catchers,
the other one Luke Cayman of Florida who had a
really good year or two. First base Andrew Fisher of Tennessee,
second base Gavin Killing Tennessee. Third base Ace Reece Mississippi State.
He was the player of the year. There were two
(46:00):
third basemen. Slate Offered of Georgia. He had a really
good year. Shortstop Behevalloy was the player of the year.
The newcomer the year was Hayesprees. The player of the
year was Beheva Alloi. Outfielders I t Irish Auburn pointed
he crushed the ball throughout the course of the season.
Charles Davilon of Arkansas, Kate Snell of Alabama, d h
(46:26):
Slash utility Cahill oh Alloy, who's the younger brother of
Thehva Alloy of Arkansas. Starting pitchers Liam Doyle of Tennessee,
Kate Anderson of LSU, Kyson Witherspoon of Oklahoma, and Zach
Root of Arkansas. Absolutely no argument with any of those.
(46:47):
All really really good for leief pitchers Dylan Valantis of
Texas and Zach Callen of LSU, and also Carson Osmyer
of Alabama. A right second team catcher, Easton Carmichael of
Oklahoma first base. Two of them Jared Jones of LSU
and Cam Kogil of Arkansas. Second base Chris Rembert of Auburn.
He was the one who was probably the closest. Perhaps
(47:11):
I didn't see the balloting, but I'm guessing he probably
was second in the balloting the Dylan Valantis for Freshman
of the Year. He had a great year at Auburn.
Chris Rembert also Daniel Dickinson of LSU. Second Team All
SEC second base, third base, Luke Hill, Ole Miss, shortstop
Justin Lebron of Alabama, outfield Hunter Ensley of Tennessee, Derek
(47:38):
Curry El of LSU, and then tied for the third spot,
Robbie Burnett of Georgia and Jacelabolette of an m d
H utility Rylan Zaborowsky of Georgia. Starting pitcher, Samuel Dutton
of Auburn, Anthony Ianson of LSU, Brian Curley of Georgia,
Riley Quick of Alabama. Relievers Jake Clemente of Florida, Mason
(48:00):
Morris of ole Miss, and Sawyer Hawks of Vanderbilt. All
Freshman Team SEC. Tyler bella Kentucky, Kyle Branch of Oklahoma,
Derek Curiel and Case and Evans of LSU, Hayden Federico
of Old Miss, Chase Freelick of Auburn, Brody Johnston of Vanderbilt,
(48:23):
Aiden King of Florida, Brendan Lawston of Florida, Chris Rembert
of Auburn, bub Terrell of Auburn, Dylan Valantis of Texas.
The only emission I think should be on there. I
think Adrian Rodriguez should be on there too. On the
All Freshman Team and then the All Defensive Team. The
catcher Ryland Galvan, first baseman Kimball Schusler All Defensive Team,
(48:43):
second baseman Ethan Mendoza, who had to miss some time
because of the injury. He's back at second base down
returned to second base of the weekend in Oklahoma. Third
base Bobby Boser of Florida and Eric Gavar of Auburn,
and Brody Johnston Vanderbilt was a tie there. Shortstop Justin
Lebron of Alabama, outfield RJ. Austen Vanderbilt, Hunter Ensley of
Tennessee and Will Gasparino of Texas. And the All Defensive
(49:07):
pitcher was Kate Anderson of LSU. So those are the
SEC Awards for all Conference performers, and again congratulations to
coach Los Nagle for Coach of the Year and Dylan
Balantis for Freshmen of the Year. On that okay, now
(49:28):
to go to the the updated rankings for college baseball. Now,
I know some of you are going to find this
a little puzzling a rod that the team that won
the SEC regular season titled and in the process beat
(49:49):
another team two out of three is actually ranked below
that team. But such as the manner of how things
go in to the SEC. In other words, according to
D one Baseball, LSU's the number one team in the
country and Texas is the number two team in the country.
Loghorn's actually moved up one spot by taking two out
of three. They're number two. North Carolina, which had a
big weekend, took two out of three from Florida State
(50:11):
in Tallahassee, moved up to number three. Oregon is fourth,
Arkansas three spots number five. Florida State dropped four spots
to six. Oregon State held at seven, Auburn dropped two
spots to eight, Vanderbilt held at nine, Georgia held at ten.
Coastal Carolina They're getting closer and closer to pushing for
a top eight national seed is eleventh, Southern twelve. Then
(50:34):
it's UCLA, Clemson, Florida's fifteen Georgia Tech, which actually won
the ACC five percentage points over North Carolina and Florida
State Danny Hall's final year as head coach. Georgia Tech
won sixteen, Ole Miss seventeen, Dallas Baptist eighteen, Northeastern nineteen,
UC Irvine twenty and the final five Tennessee, NC State, Auburn, TCU,
and Kansas. The big twelfth champion is West Virginia. They
(50:58):
are unranked just outside the top twenty five, and they
won the series from TCU during the year, but they
got swept by Kansas at home over the weekend and
that's why they dropped out there. All right, So that's
the d one pole, and you'd say, okay, that's that's
one of you know, whatever five polls. So it would
(51:22):
be safe to assume that Texas might be number one
in one of the other poles maybe, but not the
National Collegiate Baseball Writers. They follow a similar suit LSU
number one, Texas two, North Carolina three. Now they only
dropped Florida State one spot to four, Arkansas five like
in the other pole. Then it's Oregon, Georgia, Oregon State, Vanderbilt,
(51:45):
and Auburn, followed by UC Irvine, Coastal, Clemson, Tennessee, Alabama, UCLA,
West Virginia State. In the pole southern is Florida, NC State, WU, Troy, Northeastern,
Georgia and Georgia Tech and Duke. All right, So those
are the rankings, and the reason why I bring those
up is to go to the latest round of regional projections.
(52:12):
And this is why I say that just because you
are not the number one team in the country does
not mean you're not the number one seeded team when
it comes to the NCAA. And so those projections are out.
And yes, Texas is the number one overall seat according
(52:34):
to D one Baseball.
Speaker 4 (52:35):
So help me understand that. How is Texas number two
in the poll but number one the number one national seed?
Speaker 2 (52:42):
RPI?
Speaker 4 (52:43):
Yeah, let's use RPI is like eight in Texas is four.
Speaker 3 (52:49):
Yeah. No, you know what I think it is. I
think it's hot team versus body of work. Hot team
for the rankings to current rankings. Body of work will
be for the for the regional selections by the Tournament
Selection committe as they gathered this week and they'll come
out with those through Sunday night. We will learn of
(53:11):
those Monday morning at eleven o'clock Memorial Day. So if
you're sitting at home having brunch Memorial Day or Bloody Mary,
or if you like you like a mojito, don't you
you like mojito, we're doing brunchton We're doing Bloody Mary
or mimosas. Okay, all right, So as you sit back
(53:36):
in there on Memorial Day on Monday. The show is
usually usually aired on ESPN two. I think it'll either
be ESPN or ESPN two. It'll be on one of them,
So the Tournament Selection Show, and it'll be the first
time that I think that we'll see Texas revealed is
(53:59):
the number one ofall seed now according to D one Baseball,
they will be the other projections will come out this
week during the course of the week. First time ever,
Oh no, no, no, no, no, no, ok. First time
in a long time. I think twenty ten. Maybe in
twenty ten, Texas won the Big twelve regular season title.
(54:19):
They didn't win the conference tournament, but they went twenty
four and three that year in conference play. They were
the number one. I think they were the number one
overall seed. They won the regional at home. I think
they knocked out Rice to win the regional at home.
And then they played TCU, and they had just beaten
TCU in the Super Regional the year before in Austin
(54:43):
and again, and then TCU came in a much better
team than what would have been the sixteenth best team
the way you would normally logically bracket it out. Jim
Slasnigo brought in a heck of a team. Randy Macy
was his pitching coach, who wound up getting the job
at West Virginia the next year. And tc won it
in the third game, and that was the infamous dog
(55:04):
piling on the long horned center field thing that Maize
cooked up for a lot of those guys to go
and do that. But I think Texas was the one
seed that year. Well, they'll reveal it. I think we'll
find out even more as it goes far. But and
toward that end, here's why I bring this up. That year,
whether they were the number one overall seat or not,
(55:25):
the team that came to Austin, tc was clearly better
than the sixteenth team. In the country, which would be
the way that it would bracket like that I used
for reference two thousand and three, Texas was the defending
national champion. Florida State was the number one overall seed.
In fact, the Seminoles Athletic Director Charlie Carr was the
(55:46):
chairman of the selection committee. Florida State was picked number one.
Texas thought it would be at least a top eight
national seed. They weren't. They were basically the sixteenth seed.
They didn't see nine through sixteen back then. But the
way it aligned is the Austin Regional would a line
(56:08):
in the super Regional with Tallahassee and Augi Gurito was
not happy at all about it, and he spoke to
Charlie Carr, the chairber of the selection committee, and said,
how could you see the sixteenth And he goes, we
didn't see you sixteenth. He goes, well, where you have
to come to Tallahassee if we win. He says, yeah,
(56:28):
but we really don't look at it that way, and
Augie said, how else can you look at it? So
Texas goes to Tallahassee and I'll never forget this being
down there. It was pouring rain in Tallassee. In fact,
the Super Region got pushed back a day. It's supposed
to be a Saturday through Monday, and game one wasn't
until Sunday night, so they were worried about it, getting
(56:49):
the Tuesday and the winter getting Omaha on all the time.
But in that press conference, Aggi Gurita was asked, do
you think that this is unfair that you're seated this
and he goes, absolutely, it's unfair. It's totally unfair to
Florida State. He said, Florida State should not have to
face us into Omahawk. Love that story. And what happened
(57:11):
was Texas went out swept both games during that Super
Regional weekend. It was Sunday night mons, so they got
done by Monday night and Augie became the all time
winning as coach in college baseball history, passed Cliff Gustafson
that weekend on that So, but that's an example of
how in baseball, more than any other sport, they'll utilize
(57:31):
and use geography sometime, and that includes in the region.
Because in this projection for D one Baseball, Texas is
the number one overall seed, but the number two seed
in the Austin Regional they have would be Dallas Baptist.
Dallas Baptist was like rank twenty first. They're definitely much
better than what would be the what would you call
(57:53):
it seventeenth best team if you're seeding sixteen number ones
and then the first first, number two seed would be
the seventeenth and you know, for them to be seated
instead of playing the thirty second number two seed as
the number one overall seed mathematically would project like that,
(58:15):
but that's not how the tournament's election comittee thinks because
they mixed geography in it as well. Now DBU may
not be here, might be UTSA, another tough number two seed,
but it could be. They have a regional fort Worth
where TC would be the number fifteen overall seed. TC
(58:37):
would be the one seed there, UTSA would be the two,
Oklahoma would be the third, and or Roberts would be
the fourth. But back to the Texas thing, they would
be the one. Dallas Baptists would be the two. Usc
As in Southern California out of the Big Ten conference
would be the number three seed, and they're projecting Houston
(58:57):
Christian to win the South one to be the four zeed.
Has anybody noticed what's happened in the south Land over
the weekend. Nuts the Southland Tournament is different than all
other Division one tournaments. It's kind of creative. Actually. What
they did was they took the eight teams that qualify
for the tournament and they split them into two fourteen pods.
(59:18):
They finished the regular season a week early, so this
started last week. Their postseason tournament two fourteen double elimination
pods one four to five eight one in one pod,
two three sixty seven on the other. The winners to
advance to a best of three like a super regional
this week to decide the Southland Conference postseason tournament champion.
(59:39):
So what happened? The number one seed Southeastern Louisiana and
the number two seed ut Rio Grand Valley both got
knocked out. And it's a shame because UTRGV is like
in their first four out they're probably not going to
get in. So who survived? Who are the two teams
meeting for the Southland Conference Tournament. The sixth seed Houston
Christian and the eight c New Orleans, the one that
(01:00:03):
barely got in to the conference tournament losing record, and
they play a best of three this week. Whoever wins
that gets the auto bed on that, so and they're
projecting D one is projecting Houston Christian will win it.
So it's got Texas, Dallas, Baptist, USC and Houston Christian
matched up with a region in Atlanta hosted by Georgia Tech,
(01:00:23):
number two c there Tennessee, number three seed Arizona State,
and number four seed Columbia. So it conna be a
tough tough draw for Texas even as the number one
overall sea because that's where geography gets factored in. All right,
We've got more to come when we continue here on
thirteen hundred the Zone.
Speaker 2 (01:00:44):
We're back.
Speaker 5 (01:00:45):
It's the Craig Way Show with Hall of Fame broadcaster
and voice of the Texas Longhorns. Craig Way.
Speaker 3 (01:01:13):
Lost night hephones for a moment there, So how does
that happening? You haven't plugged in when there's stuffed underneath things,
it can it can go that way sometimes it can
go that way. All right, continuing here on this Wednesday
here on thirteen hunderd the Zone. Wednesday. On Monday, I
was thinking about Wednesday because we got a lead Wednesday
(01:01:34):
for the SEC tournament. It's gonna be interesting this tournament
in Hoover, Alabama. It's driving. Fans love it, the ones
of the schools obviously, and they show up there in
(01:01:55):
droves and they regularly have like eighteen thousand there beyond
the left field fences on it. It's a real kind
of right of spring thing that goes on. And Texas
be the one seed. It is an unusual and interesting
bracket in that long words play Thursday after the tournament
actually starts tomorrow. The nine seed plays the sixteen seed
(01:02:17):
and that and in fact, I'll just just give you
the low down on the way the bracketing works on
this thing. The the nine seed plays the sixteen seed,
and that will be Alabama against Missouri. And that's the
(01:02:42):
tournament right here.
Speaker 6 (01:02:43):
It is.
Speaker 3 (01:02:43):
I knew I had it here. Okay. It's funny when
you look at it first, because it just looks all complicated, really, isn't.
It'll start at nine thirty tomorrow morning with Alabama and Missouri.
So I'll be watching that because that's on the Texas
side of the bracket. Nine thirty in the morning. Are
that's the nine seed Alabama in the sixteen seed Missouri.
(01:03:06):
The winner of that game is going to play Tennessee
at nine thirty in the morning on Wednesday. The second
game tomorrow at one o'clock is the twelve seed Oklahoma
and the thirteen seed Kentucky. Kentucky just swept over you
a couple of weeks ago, that was in Lexington. The
(01:03:29):
evening session will begin at four thirty in the afternoon
our time with the ten seed Florida in the fifteen
seed South Carolina. And then the final game, which will
be at eight o'clock, is the eleventh seed Mississippi State
against the fourteen seed Texas A and M. So's that's
how that works. The Missouri Alabama Winter will play Tennessee
at nine thirty in the morning on Wednesday. The Winter
(01:03:51):
that game will play Texas three o'clock Thursday afternoon. The
Oklahoma Kentucky winner will play the five seed Georgia on Wednesday.
That's at one o'clock. The the South Carolina Florida Winter
will play ol Miss four point thirty eight the afternoon
(01:04:12):
on Wednesday, and then the eight o'clock game Game four
winner Mississippi State and A and M will play Auburn.
That's at eight o'clock on Wednesday. Then then the bracket
splits for a couple of days. Thursday, like I said,
Texas would play the winner of the Tennessee winner of
(01:04:32):
Alabama Missouri. It'll probably be the Tennessee Alabama winner, and
Vanderbilt is the four seed. They would play the winner
of Georgia against the Kentucky OU winner. Those two games
are Thursday, and they would be at three o'clock and
six thirty. Then the winner of those games gets a
day off Friday. So if the Long Runs win Thursday,
they are off Friday. The Friday bracket three o'clock Arkansaw
(01:04:57):
the two seed against the winner of Old Miss and
prob Florida UH and LSU. The three seed plays in
the night cap on third on Friday against the winner
of Auburn and probably Mississippi State. Then you have the
semifinals on Saturday. If Texas advances, they would play at
noon on Saturday, followed by the three thirty game, and
(01:05:17):
then the championship would be at two o'clock on Sunday afternoon,
So that's out. It's kind of an unusual format in
terms of splitting at the quarterfinals, so they don't have
to push all those in it. That happens when you
got sixteen teams in it.
Speaker 4 (01:05:29):
I can't believe like this totally screws over the two
and three seed because you have to play now Friday, Saturday, Sunday.
Whereas if you're the four seed, all of a sudden,
or whoever wins from that side of the bracket, you
have Friday off. You're gonna be a little bit more fresher,
your bullpen will be a little bit fresher. But you start,
you start one day earlier. That's true that the two
three sixty sevens don't play until Friday, so their extra
(01:05:52):
day off comes on the front end, so they're automatically
guaranteed their day off. They just have to go three
straight days after that. Whereas the top part with Texas
with Vanderbilt, and then the winners of that they get
the Friday off. You just got to win Thursday in
order to really make that work. Now, obviously, every coach
wants to win an SEC championship here, but Craig, do
(01:06:14):
you think there's a part of a coach where it's like,
you know what, it wouldn't be the worst.
Speaker 2 (01:06:19):
Thing to lose in the first round.
Speaker 4 (01:06:22):
I know that sounds crazy, but hey, you get, you know,
an extra weekend up because you know already the SEC
schedule is such a grind, and now you've got to
go to the Hoover and you're facing these great SEC teams,
and all of a sudden, next week you have a
regional and the super Regionals and then possibly Omaha.
Speaker 3 (01:06:41):
I know, I'm thinking such a bad thing if.
Speaker 4 (01:06:43):
A team has a weekend off, but that you know obviously,
you still, however, want to be able to win the
SEC tournament.
Speaker 3 (01:06:49):
There's only one team that applies to Texas only because
it's pretty much a given. Maybe it's not one hundred percent,
but I think it's about ninety nine percent that the
Long Words are going to be the number one overall seed.
Every other team, whether they're in the SEC, the ACC,
the Big twelve, wherever they are, they're still trying to
push their seed line up a little bit. Let's see
(01:07:11):
if we can maybe, you know, go from being there
may be teams on the outside trying to get into
a top eight national seed, Georgia, Auburn and not so about.
I think Vanderbilt's in it in the top eight regardless,
but Georgia and Auburn they're kind of on that cut line.
LSU not far from it. So winning at least a
(01:07:34):
game in your conference tournament I think helps. In the
case of Texas, I don't think it matters. I think
they could lose the first game, come home, and they'd
still be revealed as the number one. See if they
win on Thursday, I'd say they one hundred percent guarantee,
but I'd say they're probably pretty close to that anyway.
Speaker 4 (01:07:52):
And a team like Tennessee, who in D one Baseball's
poll they're two seed, they have everything to win for
anything to play.
Speaker 3 (01:07:59):
They've got to win least a couple, maybe even three,
and get to the tournament final. They've got it for
sure when that second round game, and then probably need
to beat Texas to get back on the host line
because they're right off the edge of that. They fell
off the edge of that by losing two out of
three at Arkansas of the weekend. They were in a
host role now outside but just barely outside of that.
(01:08:22):
All right, we'll be back to wrap up the hour
on thirteen under the zone and.
Speaker 1 (01:08:25):
Alis loans to face Outwood bases loaded, no One out.
First pitch grounded left side backhanded by the shortstop. Gonzalez

Postseasons Under Mike.
Speaker 3 (01:17:42):
White pretty successful weekend all the way round For Long worn.
Athletics texas men's tennis did fall in the semifinal round
in the final four TO tcu TC's playing weak forest
in The National, championship but they had a great. Year
The texas women's golf is playing in the national tournament
(01:18:05):
And Long worn men began playing more play tomorrow in The.
National so, yeah a good weekend all the way around
For Long oorn, sports especially for softball and. Baseball softball
winning the Regional texas the number six national see will
host A Super, regional advancing to The Super. Regionals in
(01:18:28):
all six years Of Mike white has been the head,
Coach Clemson tigers will be coming to. Town here we
are in the four o'clock hour of the, Program, craigway
joined by the Producer Camera. Parker we didn't bring this up.
Before we were talking About TEXAS a AND m with
the struggles they had in baseball and finishing eleven and
nineteen IN sec play and they're the fourteen seed in
(01:18:50):
the conference tournam they Played tomorr Against Misissippi. State the softball,
THING i think was really shocking what happened To TEXAS
a and. Softball the baseball, team of, course had its
struggles during the year and had that MOMENT i mentioned
where they took two out of three FROM. Lsu they
had taken two out of three At, arkansas but they
lost all three games at home to, them The missouri
(01:19:11):
team that had not won a single conference. Game they
were owing twenty four and they wound up three and
twenty seven. Overall that was their one moment in the
sun is to win all three. Games in, conversation that
was really. Damaging and then The aggies were only able
to win one of the three games At, georgia so
they're pretty much in a position of having win THE
sec tournament to get into THE Ncaa tournament into a.
(01:19:33):
Region not so For TEXAS a AND m. Softball we mentioned
the long runs with the number six national. Seed oklahoma
was the number two national seed and they swept through
in one. Ole miss out Of arizona won That South carolina,
One tennessee, one so pretty much everybody that was all
(01:19:56):
BUT i think two out of THE sec one regional
except For Missippi, state which had to play In lubbock
At Texas. Tech Texas tech is going to a super
regional for the first time in, softball and then There's
TEXAS a AND. M there was a number one overall.
Seed they were really kind of having a mountaintop, experience you.
(01:20:16):
Know they blew Out texas it was at fourteen to,
two blasted them right out of THE sec, tournament the
semifinals again in The championship Of oklahoma and they can't
play the game too much, rain so tournament final called
Off sooners And aggieast declared co tournament. Champions sooners of
course won the regular season. TITLE i think by half
(01:20:37):
game Over TEXAS a AND. M a AND m draws
the number one overall. Seed there are some who thought
they didn't, merit that they shouldn't be though it should
go To. Oklahoma But TEXAS a AND m drew the
overall number one seed and had trouble other than beating
what was It Saint francis and merist able to. Handle
(01:21:00):
liberty lost the first GAME i missed when they had
to come back through the elimination. Bracket SO i missed
the game yesterday And, cam did you did you see
the one where the one that where they're down six
nothing and absolutely had to win Over liberty to force
a final what they Call game seven because it's the
(01:21:22):
seventh total game of that fourteen double elimination. Bracket so
that's that's a nice phraseology a game seven to call it,
That BUT i didn't even see that first. Game when
they were down six to, nothing, yes six to, NOTHING
a AND m began the claw. Back liberty had six
errors in.
Speaker 4 (01:21:40):
The, content still win eight innings right eleven to, eleven
and in the Seventh liberty top of the seventh BECAUSE
a AND m was the home team and was batting
in the bottom of each. Inning liberty had basis Loaded
craig with two outs and a chance to you'll add
(01:22:00):
to their, lead could not get it. DONE a AND
m comes, back they go to the, extras and THEN
a AND m EVENTUALLY i think just poured it on
against you, Know liberty's.
Speaker 3 (01:22:09):
Bullpen probably it was pretty.
Speaker 4 (01:22:11):
Thin but then they come back in the game, Seven you're, Thinking,
OKAY a And m's going to get. It, No liberty,
AGAIN i think got out to the lead once, again
AND a AND m got it down. THERE i think
it was six,', five yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:22:23):
It Was the aggies were actually up three, TO one i.
Believe it liberty had a five run sixth to go up,
Six' three, aggies came back, as you mentioned got back.
To six' five liberty goes in order in the TOP
of THE seventh a and m gets the tying and
winning runs on base in the bottom of the seventh
(01:22:43):
inning and a. Strike count ends it and, it's just absolute.
Stunner absolutely be, caught, and, he said well okay. How
Shocking is it augie, gurito used to say every year
there's going to be a national seed that does not
make it, out of the regionals and it. Happens almost
every year but in the history OF softball, in the
(01:23:05):
ncaa tournament no number one overall seed had Failed To.
Reach the super regionals no number one seed had ever
ever failed to win the regional that was. Hosting until
last night so, that was a. Stunner shocking in attrition
ford a Great YEAR with THAT texas, a and m
team but they came up short and, it was a stunner.
(01:23:28):
No doubt about it and so and then if, you
stayed Up late You. Saw oregon beat stanford oregon. Was
The sixteen, Seed had stanford won liberty would Have. Hosted
The super. Regional but oregon won they, got a Walk
off three run. Homer and won, it and let's see they,
(01:23:50):
were down eight seven you had three run homer. AND
they won it i think it was they won it,
ten eight right anywhere but it was a Walk off
three run. Homer to win It and so now oregon
gets the host of That. Super region against liberty so
it was it was startling to. Say the very lease
it kind of reminded. Me of the deal, you may
remember this what was, it three Years Ago. Cam when
(01:24:12):
texas state it Was Three years Ago texas state had
stanford on the verge of being eliminated going to The
Night and, had texas state one they would have hosted A,
super regional against yukon Which. Had Knocked out oklahoma keith.
Morland had done that it had worked that super. Region
(01:24:32):
at that region we, were Talking about that And yukon
had upset, oklahoma knocked Them Out and if texas state
had held, on in the, ninth had won that they
would have hosted the super regional and You, Would HAVE
had TEXAS texas A And m and texas state all
(01:24:52):
hosting super regionals within like one hundred miles to one.
Another three of them. But it didn't, happen stamford came back,
they won the game and then They hosted The super
regional against yukon and won that and then and then
went on From. There on into omaha but it reminded
me of that how some. OF that that works i
(01:25:14):
point out the one that happened Eleven years ago When.
Texas Played At rice the long orange were the number
three Seed in that, region rice was hosting they, were
THE number, one AND i think, If i remember correctly
rice was the. Number twelve overall SEED the reason why
i remember this is because the one they WERE, aligned
(01:25:36):
with WAS lsu who was i think the, number Five
overall seed and rice. Was HOSTING a REGIONAL texas a
and m. Was the two seed, texas WAS the three
and I Believe it was george. Mason was the fourth well,
On the First Day, rice Beat george mason and Texas.
(01:25:56):
KIND of HAMMERED. Texas A and m saturday night WENT
bracket WELL after a and m Stayed Alive By, Eliminating
george basin texas texas. In The winters Bracket saturday night beat.
RICE in eleven innings i think it was three to.
One in eleven Innings, SO then ON sunday a, and
M stayed Alive, eliminated RICE justin rugiano, if i remember
(01:26:18):
correctly that. Was back in six but they had ANOTHER
guy who hit a who, hit A grand SLAM and A.
AND M eliminated rice a rice eliminated. From their own
region so a lot of times in regionals, if the
number one if the regional host is knocked, out before
the final the. Attendance drops off dramatically that Did. Not
(01:26:40):
happen To houston He HAD texas AGAINST Texas a, and
m Sunday night and the aggies won the game to force,
a final game seven Winner, take All on monday And
Texas won that chad hollings where they think they're one
hundred and, Thirty two pitches long. Orange won that region
that to this day is the Highest Attended game at
Reckling park On the rice camp. Us in school history Not.
(01:27:02):
A game Involving rice It WAS texas AGAINST. Texas a
and m so the long wards You're. IN the, super,
regional i thought okay well they're going To. Head for
bat ROUGE, you're GONA play lsu except Lsu. Was upset
by houston houston WAS Actually a two c, texas Was
a three But Houston's athletic director chack glacchick did not
bother to submit. A bid to host and when people
(01:27:23):
grumbling and play They shouldn't be hosting Texas shouldn't be
hosting Houston is too and ALUs it. Was on the
ears you have to take that. Up with your ad
you got. To submit a bid they. Didn't submit a
bid they tried. To put one together, after, that say
okay okay. Well Do no Deadlines. So Texas hosted houston
mark Peyton leads off and texas was the visitor in
(01:27:44):
game one because they were. The Lower seeded team mark.
Payton lead off homer texas winds. Up winning That, game
they Sweep Houston Go to college world series and get
all the way. To the semi finals they lose in The.
Tenth inning the vanderbilt Vanderbilt Team that Had Walker bueller
and carson fulmer. Think they faced bully they faced. Former,
at one point anyway it was.
Speaker 2 (01:28:05):
Things.
Speaker 3 (01:28:05):
Don't always lay out the point of all this is
that things. Don't always lay out to think you're good
the way you think they're going to work out in,
regionals and super regions and the same thing. Will Happen
in baseball so it's A cautionary tale for texas that
they wind up being the number one, overall seed in
baseball because look what's happened to the number one. Overall
(01:28:26):
seed in softball.
Speaker 4 (01:28:27):
Only two teams Have won it all Miami ninety nine. And, tennessee,
last year right yeah have been the.
Speaker 3 (01:28:32):
Number one overall seed it had that at ninety nine
was the first year they went to the sixty, fourteen
double you know. Super regional bracket format it, was the
first time and they thought it was any number one
overall seed ever going to. Win this thing, again tennessee
last year so at, least there's a precedent.
Speaker 2 (01:28:48):
And they were they were what how many outs? Away?
From from losing.
Speaker 3 (01:28:53):
FOUR was it against a? And? M, eight five yeah
yeah when they. Rallied back to win none of them
Is as painful as Arkansas And eighteen against oregon state
where they're went out away from sweeping it and a
pop up Is dropped. By The razorbacks catcher oregon state
wins it to stay alive and then shuts them out
in the if necessary game the next day to. Win
(01:29:13):
the national title. That happened in eighteen that Was as
close as arkansas the ever come to winning a. National title,
But didn't all right we've got some other, notes to
get TO including in the nba when we continue On.
Speaker 6 (01:29:23):
Thirteen under the Zone Back To, the craig Way show
connect with craig through the Text Line by text team
texas to eight, one five three zero followed by your
message standard message and.
Speaker 2 (01:29:41):
Data rates may apply.
Speaker 3 (01:29:46):
Somebody on, the, text line said, well first of All
they said thought aggie. Was a softball school Guess not
it not Chant because. It, beat texas once yeah the,
weird thing about that they didn't play. In the regular
season they just met in that SEMI final of THE
(01:30:08):
sec TOURNAMENT and a and, m Give them credit blue
texas out and they won that. One FOURTEEN to two
But i will give texas credit for saying they compartmentalized
all that learn from that and they kind of shook
it off and they weren't, real happy about it but
it went back to work and then they were kind of.
Back on the wheel they really look. Good in the
region now we'll see how they Do in The. Super
(01:30:28):
regional against clemson, THEN somebody else said I Felt, Bad
For texas state and i'm. With you on that You're
Talking about when texas state had to get away, in
twenty twenty two you know when you can Also Feel.
Bad for, TEXAS state right now i do Feel bad
for the bobcats On This Because. The sun belt tournament in,
(01:30:50):
these conference baseball, tournaments by the way you. Need to
know this, THESE conference baseball tournaments i will say there
as unique as, what do you, say fingerprints or snowflakes or,
whether that everyone's. Different because, they're Not In fact the
big twelve tournament is the SAME format as the sec
(01:31:12):
tournament and that. They're, both Single elimination however the big twelve,
field only has fourteen only has. Twelve TEAMS in it.
The sec has sixteen and that's because there's only two
baseball there are two baseball Playing institutions, in the big
twelve or two institutions who don't Play baseball. In The
(01:31:34):
big Twelve, iowa state in colorado, they don't play baseball they.
Don't field baseball teams so you have, a twelve team
field and so there's two programs that don't. Get into
the field there's Fourteen schools, in the big twelve but
only twelve get to. Play in the Tournament so IT
was utah and ucf who did Not qualify for, the
(01:31:57):
big twelve tournament so they've got they have, a twelve
team field, but it's single elimination so all there are
single buys. For THE top four the sec tournament is.
A sixteen team field it's just like with their. Men's
and women's basketball the top four seeds get a double
(01:32:19):
By so that's why Texas. Doesn't play till thursday. The
tournament starts tomorrow Texas. Doesn't play till thursday top four seeds.
Get a, double, by, seeds five six seven and eight
get one day. Off a Single, buy that's why tennessee
Which is on the texas, side of the bracket is
waiting for the winner Of tomorrow's Game. Between alabama and
missouri tennessee will play that team and the, winner of
(01:32:40):
that game It's probably Gonna Be alabama Beating missouri tennessee
and alabama winner of That game Will. Play, Texas on
thursday okay so that's. How that's set up so that's.
Different in that respect then you've, got other different formats
some of them there's one or two. That STILL use
that what i was Told was, called the california format,
(01:33:03):
the Pool play format which i've heard other coaches call it,
the fool play format because what it is is you
take your two pools of teams and they just do
round robin three, games against one another and the two
teams that emerge from the round robin. Meet in the,
championship the problem is, more often than not you, get
(01:33:26):
one in, one one in one, and one in one
and then you wind up. Going on run differential and
sometimes after the first, two games are played there will
be A game played On saturday morning or saturday afternoon
that has. No meaning whatsoever none you're playing in. A
completely meaningless Game that happened to. Texas once or twice
it happened to just about all The Schools in the
(01:33:47):
big twelve at. One time or Another Remember. Visiting a
Tom barfield. It calls, BAYLOR'S games he says i can't
tell you a number, of times We had like, A
saturday morning game Baylor's Like playing Like kansas state. Or
missouri or, somebody and he said neither one of us
can qualify because we've both lost. Our first two games
neither one of us. Can make the championship and, because
of our records neither one of us we're going to
(01:34:09):
BE playing, in the nc tournament so it was like.
An exhibition game almost it was. A lame duck game
there's one or two conferences that. Still use that format
Thank Goodness that the big twelve, got rid of it
went back to double elimination and now it's Single Elation.
In the BIG twelve and the sec also uses single.
Elimination to do that, so it helps you say pitching for,
(01:34:34):
all the people say don't, worry about, the tournament you
know save your. Pitching, for the region well the, tournament
is single elimination and if you're in, the Top four
seeds as texas is, is the number one you're not
going to play more. Than three games maximum so the
way you approach it is as a. Regular season. Weekend
series that's it you don't have to go through a
(01:34:55):
double elimination thing and burn Pitching like the sun Belt
and for the texas Had Felt. Sorry for texas state
here's the thing That's Also. Unfortune For Texas State the
sun belt tournament is a combo tournament of single. Elimination
and double eliminations it's not even like that Interesting format,
(01:35:19):
that the southland uses which Is More. Like college world
series you have two, fourteen pods double elimination and the
winners advanced to a best of three series Like. They
do in omaha you have two, Fourteen double elimination Brackets bracket,
one and, bracket two they say and then the two
winners Meet for. The national championship series that's how they Do,
(01:35:39):
it in the southland although this first, year of doing
it it's really weird because you're going to Have The
sixth seed houston christian Against The, eight seed new orleans who,
has a losing record barely got into, the field of
eight and they're going to play. For the tournament championship
to see whoeinst the automatic bid and Regular Season co
champions Southeastern Louisiana And, ut rio grand valley you're probably
(01:36:01):
gonna be on THE. Outside looking AT utrgv According to
d one baseball is at the top of the, First
four out list so maybe they get in if there's
a lot of chalk and you don't have to worry
about auto. Bid steelers out there maybe that's not The
Case With. The sun belt tournament it's a combination of single.
Elimination AND double elimination and I Was talking with ty
(01:36:23):
harrington about, This and he Said In order for texas
state to have a reasonable shot, to win this tournament
they can't fall into that single elimination. First day of
play they've got to be in the top. Six in
double elimination they have enough pitching where they can hang
in there if they do that well. Going into, The
Weekend last weekend texas state could get it at top
(01:36:47):
six if they won two out of three against A
Sub five hundred James Madison team in san marcus and
had the eleventh ranked. Team In the Country Coastal. Carolina
sweep old dominion. Coastal handle Its Business. It Swept old
dominion texas state Lost the Game On thursday to james Madison,
beat them on friday so all they had To.
Speaker 1 (01:37:07):
Do was.
Speaker 3 (01:37:08):
Win saturday they didn't they, lost three to one so
they fell, into the seventh spot so they got to
play tomorrow. Afternoon single Elimination game They're playing appleatch and.
State the ten, seed if they win then they go
into a double elimination tournament at that point starting with
The number two seed southern MISS who has an rpi
of twenty three and is going to be in the
(01:37:30):
field whether they win. That tournament or not so that's
a Difficult, assignment for the bobcats but. Weird things have,
Happened you never know so we'll hope For The best
for steven trouts team As, They get to montgomery alabama to.
Play In, that tournament all right we've. Got more coming
up we'll continue On. Thirteen, under the zone.
Speaker 2 (01:37:49):
Wow and We're Back To.
Speaker 5 (01:37:52):
The craig way show Have, a message for craig share
it by using the Talkback feature on. The, Ihearts RADIO app.
Speaker 3 (01:38:01):
Okay like i said we were gonna have we talk
a lot of, college baseball and softball and we did
do that today in brackets and Tournaments involving not ONLY,
texas And The, sec But Texas, state the big twelve
all of. That Sort of Stuff. The big twelve tournament
excuse me coughing. A little Bit there big twelve tournament,
(01:38:24):
begins tomorrow tomorrow morning nine o'clock. A global life field,
The eight NINE game actually the i think it's the
seven to, ten game is no it's it's. The eight
nine game it's, the five. Twelve game all right so
(01:38:44):
the five to twelve game at nine O'CLOCK, tomorrow morning
is byu which. Barely got in there the twelve seed
against the five seed and the point is nine. O'clock
In the morning Keith mortland On The call Of Every,
buddy And greg's Windell so zonk and zeke BACK together
(01:39:05):
doing THAT I think on. Espn plus for that they're doing,
the first two games, including the second game which is
the eight Nine matchup Which Is, cincinnati and texas tech
and then they're doing they're they're doing the day bracket.
On both of those so. That's that's going on. So.
It begins tomorrow now if you liked Going Up to
(01:39:25):
the big twelve tournament because it was climate, control the.
Global life that's cool enjoy it because this is the
last time it's, going to be there at. Least, for
a while anyway it was announced This Morning that the
big twelve is moving it's Conference Baseball, Tournament, To Surprise,
(01:39:46):
surprise Arizona Oh okay the rangers royals spring training, complex
There That ballpark so surprise staatey is where they're going
to move it for. Next starting next year so it's starting,
(01:40:09):
in twenty twenty six so just. Be ready for that
it's not Going to be in arlington at least for the.
For the foreseeable future it says beginning, in twenty twenty six.
Ten thousand seed venue it does. Not say how long
(01:40:31):
it just says beginning. In twenty twenty six here's the
common thread, that venue out there Which is What the
rangers and. Royals share that stadium the people THAT Run It.
Is rev sports entertainment that's the same Group That Runs
the rangers Sports, Entertainment Division. In arlington rev sports so
(01:40:55):
It's it's moving, to arizona next year. Starting starting next
year so if, you like it, there your last shot
at least, for the foreseeable future is to go this. Year,
DURING the tournament, okay, nba playoffs continue obviously they're down
to the Final four and The knicks and the pacers
(01:41:22):
will Be Beating In. The eastern Conference finals it Begins
Wednesday Night at Madison SQUARE garden the New i bet
the knicks they have home court Advantage now because of
indiana Winning and now the knicks are going to be.
Have home court advantage do you hear about this dude
that's getting The Royal treatment from Tyrese. Haliburton and the
(01:41:42):
pacers see it pays to. Be A fan sometime hans
perez is a Firefighter and, a lifelong pacers fan and
he he was followed On The streets of new york
(01:42:03):
by A large. Crowd of knicks fans they were All
excited After beating. Boston in game six he got hit
with two bags of garbage and he was just trying
to walk away to get, away from the crowd and
they kept following in and heckling him and all. That
kind of stuff. So it Was ridiculous so then pat
(01:42:24):
McAfee invited him to, be on the show so he
was on the show. To talk about this and while,
He's On the show tyrese halliburton pops in on a
video and on A video call from indianapolis after their,
practice today and said everybody in our organization wants to
make sure you're taking care of all the teams. Excited
(01:42:44):
to meet you it's all. We've been talking about so
what's going to happen is Because He, lives in new
york he's been invited by Them to be In. Game
four in indianapolis you're gonna Fly. Him in to indianapolis.
So that's pretty cool, that's a Good Thing especially with
new yorkers being the way they can be sometimes And Really.
(01:43:07):
Not just new yorkers sports fans in general. Can be
pretty disgusting
