Speaker 1 (00:00):
Now it's time for the winners bracky game on Saturday,
and the Longhorns taking on a team with whom they
have a lot of familiarity. It's the Oklahoma Sooners, a
renewal of the Red River rivalry.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
Runners on the corners, one out.
Speaker 1 (00:13):
First pitch Resatwich showing fun as Mia Scott breaks towards second.
Now Henry back to the plate, slides across as the
ball gets away, Mia going toward third, and she's there.
The Longhorns lead one, nothing oh one on outwood. She
wins in HiT's a high flight ball to left field.
It's gonna stay in the park. But right before the
warning track, Pickering makes the catch. Scott tags on third,
(00:34):
across the plate to nothing.
Speaker 3 (00:36):
Texas all two strikes come.
Speaker 4 (00:39):
Onto the plate while Lupi fly ball out past third.
Speaker 1 (00:42):
Mia Scott on the run, makes the catch as she
gets into the outfield grass. Scott has played shut down
defense at third base for the Longhorns. That was her
first real chance in this one. On a tough play
and the senior comes up with it to end the
Sooners fifth's Here's.
Speaker 5 (01:01):
Kate Henry Wurstitch.
Speaker 1 (01:03):
Henry's right at right field down the line, high and
deep and gone.
Speaker 2 (01:07):
Texas leads in the fifth.
Speaker 1 (01:09):
Cayden Henry has been needing to wake up with the
beat a single earlier in the game, and now a
solo shot in Texas retamps the lead at.
Speaker 6 (01:19):
Three to two.
Speaker 1 (01:23):
On their way to the championship. Here's Mitchell, high and
deep to left, way back there, goodbye, Jolie Mitchell, her
third of the World Series. It's four two Texas. A
soaring drive ten feet into the bleachers. Ten beat, ten
rows into the bleachers in left center field. Stay hot,
(01:44):
Jolie Mitchell and the Longhorns lead by two. Two strikes,
two out on core, two on for Oklahoma.
Speaker 2 (01:52):
Two run Texas lead.
Speaker 1 (01:54):
Come on oh two swaying in a miss, Texas beads
Oklahoma up. Texas hands Oklahoma their first loss before the
(02:15):
Championship Series in the Women's College World Series since twenty
twenty one, and the Longhorns advanced to Monday's semifinals, needing
one win to go to the Championship Series. Chigan Cavan,
other than a slight misstep in the second that was
(02:39):
helped by the Longhorns error, she shuts down the Sooners
strands a pair in the seventh inning, when the Sooners
got the tying run on base with one out and
Texas beats Oklahoma four two. The Texas fight was drawn
(03:04):
today and the Longhorns improved to fifty three and eleven
on the season. Oklahoma balls to fifty one and eight
and they'll have to play Oregon tomorrow, needing a win
to keep their season alive, and then needing two wins
against either Texas Tech or UCLA on Monday to advance
(03:24):
to the Championship Series. The Longhorns need one win Monday
to play for a title from UFCU.
Speaker 2 (03:31):
Dish falk Field.
Speaker 7 (03:32):
It is an elimination Sunday afternoon game between the Texas
Loghorns and the Kansas State Wildcats. First pitch to Blue
swings here and hits ball. Well, this went out to
deep left field. Back to the warning track. You can
say good night to him. Opo Taco Max. Blue goes
the opposite way beyond the left field fence and the
(03:53):
Loggrns jump to a two to nothing league.
Speaker 1 (03:55):
Here's the one.
Speaker 7 (03:56):
Oh delivery swings here and hits a high five all
to right, this one with some carry, so the warning
track seg good night to it.
Speaker 2 (04:02):
On the comal streets.
Speaker 7 (04:06):
Another opposite field shot, this one out to right for
casey Borba. It's a grand slam and the log Warns
blow it open in the top of the first. They
lead it six to nothing. He go one swings here
and drives it up the middle of a shad Rbi
single for Jalen Flores. Trotting in to score from third
is Kimball Schusler and the Loggorns now lead.
Speaker 2 (04:26):
It seven to three.
Speaker 7 (04:28):
Really inflated by that grand slam went from two RBIs
in the regional.
Speaker 2 (04:31):
The six swings here and sends another one out. You
can forget about this one saga night to it.
Speaker 7 (04:37):
It is over the wall, beyond the left field bullpen
and across the service drive. Two home runs for casey Borba.
This one a three run blast, and the log Warns
now have more separation as they lead this one ten
to three. Three balls, two strengths, two outs. The strench
Rio has the pitch swing and a mess struck him out.
(04:59):
Ruder rares back and lets it fly. Real Hospital has
four strikeouts and the Wildcats are out in the fifth.
Here's the stretch and the pitch swung on and the
ball hit sinking liner to right. Blue is there, He
makes the catch and the Loggorns win the ball game.
Final score here in this elimination game, the Texas Longhorns
(05:22):
fifteen the Kansas State Wildcats eight from UFC Udish Faulk Field.
It's the regional championship the Texas Logorns against the UTSA Roadrunners.
Speaker 2 (05:32):
Here's a pitch swung on.
Speaker 7 (05:34):
Fly ball headed out to left, back to the warning track.
You could say good eye to it.
Speaker 8 (05:38):
Well.
Speaker 7 (05:38):
If that's the final at bat for Kimball Schusler in
a Texas log warn uniform, it's a memorable one. Shusler
drives it into the eddy yard a home run, and
it makes it a seven and two ball game. Two balls,
two strikes, two outs, the stretch from the right hander
or Alaski and the two to two pitch to Blue.
He swings here and hits the ball.
Speaker 2 (05:58):
Well.
Speaker 7 (05:58):
This went out the deep right field and you could
say good night to it. Well, but that was back
to blues final like that. As a long horn, it
was certainly memorable. Drives it on the comal streets three
balls and two strikes to three to two, swinging and
a miss. Shooster strikes out and that'll end the ball game,
(06:19):
and UTSA, for the first time in school history, will
go to a Super Regional in the ninth two runs
on two hits, nobody left. Final score tonight here at
the UFC Hunus Bonk Field, the UTSA Roadrunners seven, the
Texas Longhorns four.
Speaker 1 (06:41):
The Texas Longhorns are taking the field for game one
of a possible four total games here in semi final
Monday at the Women's College World Series, Tennessee and Texas,
playing one or two to determine who goes on to
the championship series. That'll be a best of three starting Wednesday.
(07:02):
One one pitch, I fly ball to left, backing up
Alana Leech all the warning track waves back to the wall.
It is gone.
Speaker 2 (07:12):
It's sailed out of here.
Speaker 1 (07:14):
One nothing Texas. First pitch here checks wing roller left
side charging panel up with it grows Hi to first base.
It's over and I think it's out of play. Mitchell
scores Hunter's safe. The Longhorns have added at least one
the play umpires, sending Stewart back to second. We'll see
(07:38):
where they end up getting to send Stewart across the plate.
But I don't think Marty Abazidian's having anything of that,
but panel at third base had plenty of time and
she air mails first base, so an error and the
(08:01):
Longhorns are up to nothing now one and two now
on Clark, the Longhorns fan standing in the Longhorn specific
section behind the third base dugout and in many places
around the park. One two bitch swaying in a miss
and Texas for the second year in a row, we'll
play for the National Championship. Two runs against Carlin Pickens
(08:41):
is all the Longhorns got. It's all they needed. Haiti
Stewart with a solo shot in the fourth and the
throwing error with two out of the sixth inning, and
Teague in Cavan came in and relief in the fifth
inning walked the first back sheet face did not allow
(09:03):
anyone else to reach base safely. Set down nine in
a row to send the Longhorns to the Championship Series
starting Wednesday, where they'll face either Oklahoma or Texas Tech
in a two out of three championship series. Longhorns victorious.
They are now fifty four and eleven on the season
(09:24):
Tennessee Balls and ends their season at forty seven and seventeen.
Speaker 7 (09:32):
The good, the bad, the heartbreak, the excitement and the
exhilaration of a softball, baseball softball weekend. Good afternoon, everybody,
Welcome to the program here on Sports Radio AM thirteen
under the Zone. My name is Craig Way. Glad to
have you with us this afternoon, and you're hurting. The
highlight montage so expertly compiled by the producer Cameron Parker.
Speaker 2 (09:57):
Cameron D. Parker.
Speaker 7 (10:00):
The Dean Labor Certificate stands for Dallas, as in his
favorite pro football team that he's not keeping much track
up these days, but it can also stand for you
mentioned dominating last week, could be dominating for the one
and only Scotty Scheffler back wins at the Memorial.
Speaker 2 (10:21):
That's that was pretty impressive.
Speaker 9 (10:22):
So yeah, first one to do that since this guy
named Tiger Woods, so it tells you he's on a
he's an elite company right now, where you know, every
time he wins, it's like, well, how do you how
do you know?
Speaker 10 (10:34):
How do you describe what he's doing right now?
Speaker 9 (10:35):
And he keeps doing it and doing it, and you
know the US Open is in two weeks. Craig, you
got the Canadian Open this week, and then the US
Open next week at Oakmont, which is going to be
a fantastic venue, but it's going to suit Scotty's game
very well, so you know, he's We're in the territory
where it's like, okay, can anybody else beat Scotty Cheffer.
There are some people who are like, well, Ben Griffin's
(10:57):
playing really well. And then Scotty had the last two
goals he played on Saturday, I think won the tournament
because he had Ben Griffin, who's leading by three four
shots at the tar Hill, and everyone's like, man, you know,
Griffin had won the week before Colonial, he's playing well
this week at Memorial, and then Scotty just flipped the switch,
turned it on all of a sudden. He's leading going
(11:18):
in the Sunday and Griffin played really well yesterday but
wasn't enough to beat Scotty, who is who won by
two shots and now has won sixteen times on the tour.
He's won I think we're looking at what three times
this year, four times this year? I think four times
now overall, he's in a different place right now with
his golf game. So excited to see Jordan's beat the
(11:41):
t seven, which was a warm sight. He almost murdered
someone yesterday in the golf course. I don't know if
you saw the video, grow I did. The first hole,
he loses his t shot way right. He's in the rough,
and the rough at at Memorial is like les open rough,
so he's trying to play it out of the rough
to the green, and you know, there's some spectators who
are about twenty yards in front of them, and Jordan
(12:04):
just caught it thin and everyone had the duck and
he was this close had taking off someone's head. And
one of the spectators actually was recording it and he
posted the video. You you see the golf ball coming
at the phone. Then last second he ducks out of it.
Somehow Jordan made par in that old Suka twenty two footer.
But you know, good week for the UT guys, and
(12:24):
Scotty's doing Scotty things and excited to see what happens
at Oakmont. But like you mentioned, dominating, what he's doing
hasn't been done since Tiger Woods.
Speaker 7 (12:33):
Straight down I seventy from Columbus because Doublin, Ohio not
far from Columbus. There they had a Memorial straight down
I seventy east, going over to Pittsburgh to start to
get ready at Oakmund. Okay, let me tell you what
we have coming up on the program this afternoon. You
heard in the highlight montage the Texas softball team win
today in the game you heard live here on thirteen
(12:55):
under the Zone as Texas Softball shut out Tennessee to nothing.
The long words, going back to the national Championship round
for the second straight year and for the third time
in four years, Texas will play the winner of the
game this evening between Oklahoma and Oregon excuse me, Oklahoma
and Texas Tech. And if Oklahoma wins, they'll have to
play one more time.
Speaker 2 (13:14):
Against Texas Tech.
Speaker 7 (13:15):
If the Red Raiders win, then it'll be Tech and
Texas for the national championship. So they will play this
evening and Texas will play the winner. So while they're chilling,
the head coach Mike White is going to join us
in an hour, so he'll join us coming up at
three fifteen, four to fifteen. Andrew Haynes, who called that
game for us here on thirteen hunder the Zone, will
(13:38):
join us as well. A little analysis of that as well,
and what to look forward to. So we'll have those
two things with regard to wrapping up salt pump. We
do have inconceivable coming up later this hour preview with
the NBA Finals, we've got it to get into that
and the NHL Stanley Cup Finals. There's been some pro
football news to get to and yes, of course the
(13:58):
end of the Texas Long worn baseball season. We're going
to talk about that coming up of the next segment,
the disappointment of how it ended after so much excitement
during the year. So the macro look, the thirty thousand
foot look as some people, some folks like to call
it at the entire season an evaluation and recap, So
we'll do all of those things coming up. As always,
(14:21):
we open up our text line to you for your questions,
your comments, your thoughts. You need only textus. You text
the word Texas follow by your question or comment to
eight one five three zero. So text the word Texas

three zero. Standard messaging and data rates may apply, so
we'll get to all your texts as well. We have
(14:43):
a lot to get to on the program. Glad to
have you with us on this Monday afternoon. Here, I'm
thirteen under.
Speaker 11 (14:48):
The zone it's the Craig Way Show with the voice
of the tech Cis Longhords in Hall of Fame broadcast there, Craig.
Speaker 7 (15:04):
Way, do you remember when we were kids and you
play tag, or when I was a little kid, they
might say freeze tag it freeze afterwards. That was kind
of what happened just then. That happens sometimes with the
computers in a computerized society. Sometimes it freezes, right, it's
a little computer free So that's what happened there. I
(15:24):
glad to have you with us on a Monday afternoon.
And as I mentioned, certainly we're happy to field your questions,
your comments and if you would like to ask a
question or have a comment about any specific thing, be
(15:45):

personal variety, we always invite the feedback on that as well.
So if you got something you want to hit us
up with, feel free to do that. And what you
do is you text the word Texas by your along
with your question or comment to eight one five three zero.
(16:08):
So text the word Texas followed by your question of
comment to eight one five three zero.
Speaker 2 (16:13):
Standard messaging and data age may apply.
Speaker 7 (16:15):
Okay, I mentioned we just turned the montage with regardings softball,
we're going to hear Mike White's going to join us
on the program. We also may get a chance to
hear from some of the postgame news conference that just
that just happened, just a little bit of ghosts, and
we may we may hear some of that. But Coach
White's going to join us live in the three o'clock hour.
Andrew Haynes, who called the softball win over Tennessee, will
(16:38):
join us in the four o'clock hour. Also in the
four o'clock hour, we'll hear the full season ending press
conference with Jim Schlosnikel and Long Worn players following Texas
season ending loss last night to UTSA at UFCU. Just
followed field that was on the tail end of what
was hoped to be a survi Sunday, and the long
(17:01):
Horns did survive the first game, In fact, they flourished.
They beat Kansas State fifteen to eight, and Rugerio Hos
pitched the best he's pitched in a month, and they
got home runs. Max Blue hit a home run, Casey
Borba hit two. Borba drove in eight runs in that
first game, and so they did their job in the
(17:21):
first game, and it was about an hour and a
half turnaround from the time the first game ended to
when they had to take the field against UTSA, and
they had an opportunity in the top of the first
and got runners on the corners, could not get anything across,
and that might have been a harbinger of bad things
to come, because Norris mccluy hit a two run homer
(17:43):
in the bottom of the first inning as UTSA was
the designated home team, and they went on to get
the victory from their Seven to four was the final score,
and the long Corn season ends at forty four wins
and fourteen losses. Before we have a little bit of
an analysis on that, let's hear this was the postgame
interview that Schlass had with Roger Wallace down the field
on our broadcast last night.
Speaker 12 (18:03):
And coach, your guys battled this afternoon, did what they
had to do. But how do you kind of sum
up what happened here tonight?
Speaker 10 (18:10):
Well, we didn't do what we had to do. We
had to win, so we didn't do that, uh you know,
I mean, we gave them free bases and then they
got the big two out hit. Did we end up
with more hits than them. Yeah, so you know, we
just we didn't get it timely hit. They got it
timely hit. Centerfielder made an awesome play, big part of
the game. They outplayed us. I mean, they outplayed us
(18:31):
two days in a row. You know, I thought we battled,
but obviously, you know, I mean, what what the Schustler
and Galvan and Ballow, you know what those guys are
doing through injuries and crazy things, just incredible. You know,
it stinks in our season ends here, but they certainly,
at least for my time at Texas, they they set
(18:51):
a standard that a lot of people have to work
really hard to live up to.
Speaker 12 (18:54):
I was gonna say, a new staff comes in, players
have to adjumpts the coaches. But it's also, uh, the
other way around. What is the group meant to you
that you inherited here?
Speaker 10 (19:04):
Yeah? They mean the world? Man, awesome kids. Man, this
is It's like I said before, you know, I hope
we continue to increase the the level of play and
the talent level that kind of thing. But you're you
can't get better kids. You just can't get better kids
than than Shustler and Ballou and Jalen and Dre like
I go on and on. So it's uh got it stinks.
(19:28):
It stinks because you got to restart tomorrow and uh
you want to keep playing.
Speaker 12 (19:33):
I know it's fresh, but you guys win the SEC
regular season title.
Speaker 2 (19:36):
You battle through a lot of things. I mean hard
to say this.
Speaker 12 (19:40):
The season has been a disappointment with what you accomplished.
Speaker 10 (19:43):
Yeah, I mean, I mean I get it Omaha, believe me, nobody.
I mean I'd rather barely get in the regional and
end up in Omaha. I mean, there's no question about that.
I understand that. We you know, everybody wants that. But
it doesn't take away from you know, the first ever
SEC team you know, no disrespect to those other teams
here at Texas. This is the best league Texas has
ever played in. I can promise you it's the deepest league.
(20:05):
So these guys have set an Austin standard that you know,
at least from a conference play standpoint, that I have
to have to be, uh, you know, live up to.
Speaker 3 (20:16):
Well.
Speaker 12 (20:16):
Speak for Craig and Keith and myself. Appreciate your time
all season long with us.
Speaker 2 (20:20):
Thank you, appreciate you.
Speaker 7 (20:21):
All right, that was the postgame conversation with Jim Slas Nigel,
the long Worne head coach. You can hear the disappointment
obviously in his voice. There was certainly the disappointment there
for Texas fans, the disappointment none bigger than obviously for
the long Warnon players. Slash said something pretty interesting to
(20:42):
me in the in the.
Speaker 2 (20:44):
Pre game before the Kansas State game.
Speaker 7 (20:49):
About how the guys had had so much, you know,
put more on their shoulders than they probably need to,
and needed to just relax and have fun and enjoy
the postseason a little bit more. And he said it,
A big part of this is they don't want to
disappoint anybody. They just don't want to disappoint anybody they
want to and that comes along with it. That's definitely
going to be a part of it. I think when
(21:11):
you look at the way this season unfolded and ultimately
the way it concluded, is you almost have to for
evaluate evaluative purposes evaluation to split it into two parts.
The first part, when everybody was healthy, was when Texas
was really really playing well. They got off to that
(21:34):
thirty eight and five start, but even before that, when
they had won seventeen year row, everybody was healthy. The
injuries did ultimately play a big part in this. It
wasn't the final determining factor, but it did determine some thing.
For example, Max Blue missing twenty six games with a
broken thumb. Adrian Rodriguez hit on top of the hand
(22:00):
to risk a handmate bone. He was fortunate, really fortunate,
in that he didn't break the bone, which you know,
took him. Would have, he would have probably missed the
rest of the season. He missed parts of lots of
games and then came back couldn't swing the bat right
handed the rest of the season. This is the guy's
you know, was a switch hitter, but he learned and
(22:23):
adapted to swinging from the left side. I think he
wound up hitting two fifty five against left handers after
starting off like fifty one. He was like two for
his first twenty seven and then and then made adjustments
and figured out a lot of things and got better
at it. But it was never one hundred percent the
rest of the way, and so he had to alternate
(22:44):
between second base and left field. Same thing happened with
Ethan Mendoza, who was having just a fabulous season, was
batting well above three fifty went diving for a ball
in the Kentucky series back behind second base in the
Sunday afternoon game, re injured a shoulder that he had
already had surgery on when he was playing in high
school at South Lake Carol. Was out of the lineup
(23:06):
for a while, then came back and could only DH
and then went back in at second base yesterday, but he's.
Speaker 2 (23:15):
He had been in and out.
Speaker 7 (23:15):
He also, by the way, had gone back in the
second base during the Oklahoma series and in the SEC
Tournament game against Tennessee. But somewhere in there, and Jim
Slason Eglas City wasn't sure when it happened. He either
happened in the Sunday game or the Saturday. It was Thursday,
Friday Saturday series with Oklahoma to conclude the regular season
in Norman. It was either then or it was in
(23:39):
the SEC Tournament game against Tennessee that he was hit
on the pitch with a knuckle injured a knuckle in
hand and so on his storming hand, and so that's
why he didn't start the tournament or the NCAA Regional
in the field. Started off as the DH, but then
felt well enough to play the field yesterday and did so.
There there were those those things, and Texas had to
(24:03):
work around those things. Of course, the thing that was
just kind of unrecoverable was the loss of Jared Spencer,
number one starter.
Speaker 2 (24:11):
He was off to a really good start.
Speaker 7 (24:14):
Spencer was fourn one in a three to two seventy
ra and opposing hitters were only batting two fifteen against him.
Me that just worked out marvelous, as well as the
Friday night start as a left hander. When he injured
the shoulder during that Auburn series, that was it and
the Longhorns never really discovered the guy to step in
(24:35):
and do the job. Not only that, Ruger Riojas having
to make the transition from Sunday started a Friday starter,
looked okay at first, and then he struggled for the
entire last month of the season until yesterday, and he
looked much like he did throughout a lot of the
earlier part.
Speaker 2 (24:50):
Of the season.
Speaker 7 (24:51):
So that was it was good to see him bounce
back and have a good start, which turned out to
be his final start of the season. Luke Harrison, I
think performed a little better as the season went on.
Now ended up getting no decision yesterday or a Saturday
Night in the contest, but did perform better than a
(25:11):
lot of folks fought he might perform, but the pitching
I don't think ever completely recovered, certainly from the loss
of losing Jared Spencer. Dylan Valantis was the SEC Freshman
of the Year. He set an SEC freshman wrecker with
eleven saves and conference playing wound up with twelve saves.
Speaker 2 (25:27):
Overall, looked really good last.
Speaker 7 (25:29):
Night and was okay in the Saturday night game, but
wound up four and one with a one ninety four
ERA and made First Team All SEC. There were different
guys who at different points of the season looked really good,
but not consistently every single time that they were called upon.
Guys like k Bing and Hudson Hamlet and Thomas Burns
(25:53):
and Grayson Sonier and Ethan Walker and Andre Diplanti. All
of those guys had moments where they looked really good
in helping Texas build this record, but down the stretch
it was difficult to find the one hot hand that
was going to do that. With regard to the hitting,
and I know a lot of folks were you know,
I'm unhappy with this. I mean, I'll say this with
regard to the hitting, Ethan Mendoza wound up leading the
(26:16):
long Worns in the hitting.
Speaker 2 (26:17):
He've added three thirty three.
Speaker 7 (26:19):
What they got from him as a transfer in from
Arizona State was above and beyond what they might have
been able to hope, and I thought it was good.
Adrian Rodriguez before the injury was batting well over four
hundred and then, like I said, had to make the adjustments.
Ultimately wound up at three thirteen, not bad for a
true freshman. He also stole fifteen bases and sixteen tries
(26:40):
like Mendoza did. Kimball Schuster just kind of the everyman
you know, and was the grad student and started off
at A and M and the injuries threatened even his career,
but still became very reliable and the pinnable and wound
up hitting three twelve and hit his final home run
as a Long Worn last night in the eighth inning.
(27:00):
Ryland Galvin, who took so much punishment, wound up being
the Longhorns home run leader with fifteen. So much punishment
behind the plate, but played did Ryland in fifty six
of the fifty eight ball games, starting fifty three of
those games.
Speaker 2 (27:17):
He was above three hundred most of the season.
Speaker 7 (27:19):
I think he got worn down a bit toward the end,
but still wound up at two ninety six the batting average.
Casey Borba had started off hot, went into an awful
slump for a long time, and then it's unfortunate to
see that the Longhorns can't continue the season. Because he
finished as definitely the best hitter. His batting average went
up seventeen points over the weekend, up the two seventy
(27:39):
eight because he had that monster regional effort.
Speaker 2 (27:43):
Then I would say this.
Speaker 7 (27:46):
Also the excitement of seeing Joanah Williams, you know, bat
three twenty seven In twenty ball games, he had eighteen
hits and fifty five at bats. He had to deal
with a hamstring situation, but then it healed up a
little bit better. He wound up stealing three bases, so
that was good to see. Max Blue unfortunately winds up
being an incomplete line for him because he had to
(28:08):
miss twenty six ball games. He saw action in thirty
two games, hit nine homers twenty nine rbs, wound up
batting three three, but his batting average dropped fifty five
points after he returned. In that Oklahoma game. He was
back three to fifty eight when he returned, and he
did have three home runs. I've had the dramatic one
at Ou and then two he hit yesterday, but that
(28:29):
was it for him afterwards. And then the other guys
I think in Eastern Winfield unfortunately couldn't give Texas enough
of what they wanted to see out of him to
transfer from UL Monroe. He batted to fifty out of that,
other guys like Jayden Deplantier and Jacquey Stewart and just
did not.
Speaker 2 (28:47):
We're unable to step up.
Speaker 7 (28:49):
They help the club much offensively, but I think the
biggest disappointment, and I know it's been been mentioned, the
biggest disappointment from an offensive perspective has been you know
what happened to the other three guys. Tommy Farmer wound
up batting two forty nine. He played in all fifty
eight ball games, he started forty eight of those, hit
one home run, drove in twenty five runs, and.
Speaker 2 (29:11):
He struck out sixty five times. And then the two mentioned.
Speaker 7 (29:15):
Most prominently, or Will Gasprino and Jayleen Flores. Gasparino hit
two forty two. He had thirteen ombers hit forty nine runs.
Bat at Any only had two hits in the regional
and he struck out sixty three times. Jalen Flores, a
preseason All American, hit only two thirty nine. He wound
up being their RBI leader with fifty four hit thirteen homers,
(29:38):
but he struck out fifty nine times, hit in the
seven double plays. Those were the things as well, in
committed eight errors in the field. So those are the
things I think that stand out as the most disappointing.
But then when you also compare it to what was expected.
This was the team that was expected, predicted, projected to
(30:00):
finish in eighth place in the SEC, and for them
to win the SEC regular season championship, I do think
is a significant accomplishment. However, when you are the number
two seed and playing at home, certainly the expectation elevates
and nobody expects more of them than the players and
the coaches themselves. No one is more disappointed than those guys.
(30:20):
So it's not like they take that lightly. And yours
law say it begins tomorrow, meaning today, they're already on it.
The portal opens today, so you know there's the people say, well,
you know it couldn't have been a good season. No,
They finished thirty above five hundred, they won forty four
ball games and won the SEC regular season title. I
think all of that has to be factored in juxtaposed
(30:45):
against the injuries in the way the season ultimately wound
up disappointing, absolutely, and I know they were heartbroken that
they couldn't be home to host the Super Regional and
have a shot to get Tomaha's the number two national seed.
It is also fair to point out, Listen, could Vanderbilt
being the number one overall seed and go from the
penthouse to the outhouse?
Speaker 10 (31:04):
Was it?
Speaker 7 (31:05):
Rick Barnes used to say, proud peacock one day, feather
dust or the next. They come from one week from
winning the SEC tournament championship to being completely out of
the SEC, out of the NCAA Tournament. They didn't even
get into the championship round of their own regional heartbreaking
for Georgia. Heartbreaking. Lose out Oregon and national seed heartbreaking.
(31:25):
And then you've got some teams that are being pushed
to the Clemson is another team that got knocked out,
heartbreaking for them.
Speaker 2 (31:32):
There's other teams that are being pushed to.
Speaker 7 (31:34):
The wall, including LSU, who lost to a little rock
team last night, the four seed that has a losing record,
But LSU has some really good arms reserved, and I
think they'll handle their business tonight. We're going to check
the regional scoreboard and we'll have some more analysis and
take more of your thoughts and your questions on all
of this. Coming up up next, we have Inconceivable here
(31:54):
on this Monday. I'm thirteen under the zone. Glad to
have you with us on this Monday afternoon. Coming up
in a few minutes, Mike White, Texas softball coach, joins
us live from Oklahoma City, where the Texas softball team
is qualified yet again, back to back. Here's three of
the last four years to play four national championship. They
shut out Tennessee today two nothing combined effort. Mac Morgan
(32:14):
got the wins with the first four innings. Teak In
Cavan picked up the save. Two home runs four in
Texas in the contest or a one home run and
then a run scoring on a throwing error and the
home run coming from Katie Stewart and then run scoring
on a throwing error and Texas fifty four to eleven.
(32:35):
Now will head to the national championship round. They're going
to play either Oklahoma or Texas Tech. Those two play tonight.
If Oklahoma wins, will play one more time. If Texas
Tech wins, it'll be Tech against Texas. Updating the College
Baseball Regional score board. North Carolina's broken through with four
runs and still batting in the top of the third
(32:55):
against Oklahoma. It's winner take all that final game there
Targia leave the Sooner seven to two in that that
was after Oklahoma won last night over Carolina nine to
five to four.
Speaker 2 (33:06):
State final game.
Speaker 7 (33:08):
Today and with regard to the rest of the regional
alignments for today, the if necessary games that are taking
place today and the one and the teams who have
already qualified now for the National championship next round the
super regionals. First of all the teams that have already qualified.
(33:33):
Louisville has won the Nashville Regional. They beat Wright State
last night after Wright State eliminated the top seed Vanderbilt,
so Louisville is in. They're waiting on the winner of
the regional to be completed in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, the number
sixteen seed overall seeds Southern miss dropped its first game
to Columbia.
Speaker 2 (33:51):
They bounced back.
Speaker 7 (33:52):
They eliminated Alabama, then eliminated Columbia. They beat Miami last
night and they have to beat them one more time
later today in order to qualify to play Louisville in
Super Regional Tallahassee. Florida State able to go through and
win their regional final last night of our Mississippi State,
they're waiting to match up with the winner in Cortvallas.
(34:12):
Oregon State dropped its first game on Friday night the
Saint Mary's the number eight seed, but then they eliminated
TC on Saturday.
Speaker 2 (34:19):
They beat usc fourteen to one. Last night.
Speaker 7 (34:22):
They had to play one more time tonight to see
who will match up with Florida State in the super regional.
I mentioned the North Carolina Oklahoma game going on winter
that is going to face Arizona if North Carolina wins
the host that super regional. Arizona won the Eugene Oregon Regional,
where the twelve seed was Oregon got knocked out of course,
Texas eliminated by UTSA. UTSA will be headed to Los
(34:43):
Angeles to play UCLA, which won its own regional as
the number fifteen seed. Duke won the Athens Georgia Regional,
beating Oklahoma State, who knocked out the number seven national
seed Georgia yesterday, Duke Advances. They're waiting on the winner
of tonight's game between old and Murray State. Murray State
won Overall Miss on Friday, but Old Miss came back.
(35:06):
They eliminated Western Kentucky, then Georgia Tech, then they beat
Murray State last night. They play one more time, and
then LSU, which had won two games handily over Rhode
Island and Dallas Baptist or excuse me, Little Rock in
Dallas Baptists then faced up against Little Rock, the four
seed with a losing record, and Little Rock stayed alive
(35:28):
by eliminating Dallas Baptists and then beat LSU last night,
so they have to play one more time night. The
winner is going to match up with West Virginia, who
won the Clemson Regional, and then finally, in the bottom
of the bracket, Tennessee and Wake Forest have to play
one more time. The winner of that will draw Arkansas,
which won its regional, and they will host the Super Regional.
All right, there, there it is. You're up to date
(35:49):
on the NCAA Baseball regional round up. Next, we'll talk
College World Series for softball, with Texas headed to the
National Championship Series. That's next when we continue on thirteen
under the Zone, it's.
Speaker 11 (36:11):
The Craigway Show with the voice of the Texas Longhorns
and Hall of Fame broadcast there Craig Way.
Speaker 7 (36:28):
Three fourteen on a Monday afternoon, coming on the weekend.
Long Worn Baseball season ends at forty four and fourteen.
We had some analysis of it last hour. Some more
coming up we'll here also from Jim Schlasnago Long Worn
players coming up in the next segment for the news conference,
they're updating the regional game that's going on right now
(36:49):
in Chapel Oil, North Carolina. They've just finished the bottom
of the third inning. Oklahoma is the designated home team
for this one game, winner, take all game seven, as
it's called. I've always been I won't say confused, bite.
I understand the numerology involved. It's the seventh game of
the regional overall, but it's not the seventh game between
(37:09):
the two teams. It's the third game between the two teams.
North Carolina beat Oklahoma on Saturday night. Oklahoma won a
survival game last night of the Tar Heels, and now
they're playing one more winner take all game after Oklahoma
fought its way back through the elimination bracket and North
Carolina leads that one by a score of seven to two.
Speaker 2 (37:28):
That is, through three innings, no.
Speaker 7 (37:30):
Need for an elimination bracket. For the Texas long Horns
softball team. The Longhorns are through to the National Championship Round.
As you heard it live here on thirteen hundred Zone
this afternoon with Andrew Haynes on the call. Texas with
a two to nothing shutout of the Tennessee Volunteers back
in the National Championship Round for the second straight year,
for the third time in these past four seasons. Very
(37:51):
pleased to be joined live right now from Oklahoma City
by head coach Mike White. I'm always curious when you
get a big win like this at the postseason and
you've got a couple of days. I know there's planning
that goes on, but how much of this do you
allow yourself to enjoy?
Speaker 2 (38:05):
Mike, congratulations on the wind.
Speaker 3 (38:07):
Well know so much myself, but thank you for that.
Know so much myself.
Speaker 4 (38:11):
But the girls, for sure, they were told about man
cues and pittyqs and things like that, so you know
they're enjoying the time off for sure. But it's great
to be able to sit back and be able to
watch the other teams compete and then find out who
we play.
Speaker 2 (38:24):
So no manny petty for you there.
Speaker 7 (38:26):
You can relax and enjoy a cold malted beverage while
they're working on your feet or something like that.
Speaker 3 (38:31):
Now, maybe the latter without the defeat. But yeah, hey, yeah,
I'll do what I have to do.
Speaker 2 (38:36):
Yeah, I want to. I was curious to get your
thoughts on this.
Speaker 7 (38:39):
You'd talk to Holly Roy was watching the telecast when
you mentioned about how you were setting up your pitching
for it, and it started with Mac Morgan and you
and I talked about Mac last week and you said
she's going to be an important part of what we
do before this is done. And what she really seemed
on the beam today even doing what she normally doesn't
(38:59):
do in great bun this is getting strikeouts because she
does such a fabulous job at getting posting players to
hit the ball on the ground. But how would you
characterize what you saw in analyzing what Mac did for
you in the circle today?
Speaker 10 (39:11):
Oh?
Speaker 4 (39:11):
It was huge for us, you know, the ability to
go out there and play against one of the best
hitting teams in the country. I mean they got seven
runs off the Florida the last the other night, just
in the fisht S innings. So to come out and
really set the tone for us defensively, you know, and
they allow us to kind of battle that way through
against one of the best pictures in the country.
Speaker 3 (39:28):
It was great and also allowed Tiagan to have a
little extra risk.
Speaker 7 (39:31):
Well, and that's where I was going next, because you
know a lot of layman fans would sit back and
see what maca done and say they're making a change.
He's making a change, he's bringing it. But Tigan's been
your go to your bell cow all season long. So
was it in your mind as soon as you got
a lead you were going to go to Tigan or
did it just depend on how Mac was going or
(39:53):
was there a point even if you had not gotten
the homer from Katie Stewart and was still scoreless after
for what was your your plan as that was you
might say, unfolding throughout the course of the middle innings.
Speaker 4 (40:06):
Yeah, for sure, I mean you always make plans and
there to be adjusted and the plan was to go
five innings with Mac, so we were one short of that.
Speaker 3 (40:15):
But I thought it was time.
Speaker 4 (40:16):
She was getting the ball up just a little bit,
and that's a telltale sign when we need to make
a change with Mac. But I'm just so proud of
her the way she fighted it, with the way she
fought and you know, kept that team in the game.
Speaker 3 (40:26):
And then of course once we got that lead, it
was like, we're not giving this up.
Speaker 7 (40:31):
How sure were you that the ball off Katie's battle
was a home run? I mean, seeing all the replays,
it was very very close, and maybe a leap might
have been able to get it, might not have.
Speaker 2 (40:42):
But when it came off the bat, were you thinking
it was going out?
Speaker 3 (40:46):
I thought it may have a chance, but I thought
it was going to stay in. And then it started drifting.
Speaker 4 (40:50):
I saw her drifting, and I was like, let's go,
come on, And then you know, I think we got
some heavenly helps up there.
Speaker 3 (40:56):
So it definitely just barely met.
Speaker 7 (40:58):
It overs with Mike White, Texas softball coach here on
thirteen hundred the Zenter. Okay, you brought up Teagan and
how important it was when you got the lead also
how important you think it was since you've got a
day off tomorrow for her, even as much work as
she has put in the season for her still to
get in there give you three innings she got to
(41:19):
save to get in a little if you almost you
might say, tune up, work some work there before she
goes back to the circle for you on Wednesday.
Speaker 4 (41:28):
Yeah, she's pitching a little bit more than she normally
does for us, but just been really impressed with his
stamina so far, and she looked pretty good coming in.
So just ability to discover three innings, I think just
over forty pitches, so it wasn't too bad. So I
think your pitch count, considering she's thrown in three games,
is relatively low, and of course getting another day off
tomorrow cerily helps as well.
Speaker 7 (41:49):
You know, it's it was a pretty emotional win for
Oklahoma over Oklahoma. It would be that way for anybody
given the excellence of the suitors.
Speaker 2 (42:01):
Were you able to.
Speaker 7 (42:02):
Tell a tangible emotional lift and carryover for your group
not just because it was a win and not just
because it was a win in the in the College
World Series there in Oklahoma City, but because of who
it was. You beat where you beat them, and the
impact that it carried for you numerically into the semifinals.
Speaker 4 (42:25):
Yeah, all three of those things put together for sure.
I mean it was a huge breakthrough wind Draft program.
I mean the first time was when we actually beat them,
I think a couple of years ago with Hailey Dulcini
and I think we won the one the.
Speaker 3 (42:37):
Series against them, you know, said that was the first breakthrough.
Speaker 4 (42:40):
And then you know, we hadn't really beaten them in
Oklahoma at all, and we really hadn't played that well
against the Mantel you the truth, and for us to
kind of get that monkey off that back, so to speak,
is huge, and hopefully we can continue to play free
and and with confidence like we are doing right now.
Speaker 2 (42:56):
Curious to get your thoughts on this.
Speaker 7 (42:57):
I've read and seen and her quite a few comments
from coaches and players of other teams there in Oklahoma
City talking about this being kind of an unfair advantage
for Oklahoma playing at Devon Park and all of that
sort of stuff. Is your group only because they've played
there so much and because they've played Oklahoma as much
(43:19):
as they played them in that state, are they pretty
easily able to block? Out all the extraneous, and it's
an awful lot of extraneous, the noise and the excitement
and the obvious home crowd advantage that the Sooners have
when they're out there.
Speaker 4 (43:33):
Yeah, it certainly is something that's to their advantage and
we know that, but there's nothing we can do about
it except compete. And we've just got to put that
behind us and you know, start making excuses and so
to speak, and really just kind of focus on what
we can control and what we need to do and
just work our way through it.
Speaker 3 (43:50):
I thought the other night.
Speaker 4 (43:51):
When we played really well, the Crab was a little
bit more quiet, so we kind of took them out
of it, and that was a big advantage for us actually.
Speaker 7 (43:58):
In imperfect world and when we all live in an
imperfect world, but Mike, in a perfect world, would an
more ideal situation be for I don't know if it'd
be the NCAA or a sparticular city, maybe in Frisco
in the Dallas Forward area, which is really billing itself
as a sports complex capital of the World. To have
(44:20):
a twenty thousand seat or whatever fifteen thousand seat saltball
stadium in a big market that doesn't necessarily have a
collegiate allegiance to have a true neutral site. In a
perfect world, would that would that be a more ideal setup.
Speaker 3 (44:34):
I think it's somebody to look at the next time round.
Speaker 4 (44:36):
I know there was a multi year contract because the
city of Oklahoma City put in a lot of money.
I think of a twenty million dollars into that stadium
that was part of the agreement to get it for
so many years.
Speaker 3 (44:47):
So I think the next time round, I think it
would be something to look at.
Speaker 4 (44:50):
I mean, you really shouldn't ideally have a field like
that within thirty miles or twenty miles of someone's campus.
That's definitely a major player in the sport. But you know, again,
we know it is what it is, and and they
were willing to put put the money up and put
the funds. But it was also at the home of
Essay Softball as well before the collegurbal series if it
came here as well, so it was a well known
(45:12):
city for softball.
Speaker 2 (45:14):
Visiting with Mike White, Texas softball coach.
Speaker 7 (45:16):
Okay, let's uh, let's turn the attention toward this, uh,
this other semifinal. How do you and the staff go
about uh, your viewing of this game between Texas Tech
and Oklahoma. You're well acquainted obviously not only with the Sooners,
but but also with the Red Raiders and Najerie Kennedy
and uh that sort of thing. So how closely are
(45:37):
you not only just watching him, but in terms of
your scouting thing and with the things that you're looking
for tonight as those two get together.
Speaker 4 (45:46):
Yeah, I mean, I think as you can tell, you know,
Jerry Glasco is quite the trickster, and you know you
don't see homestilling very often, and he been softball and
he did that the other night. And he likes to
run and be a little unpredictable, so that could happen again.
He could use his speed to kind of play on
their defense a little bit. And of course they have
the ace in the hole with Nijia Cannery candidate. She's
(46:06):
a tremendous pitcher and has a below one ERA, so
it's not very often you score a lot of runs
against her, so you know, they kind of have that
advantage right now.
Speaker 3 (46:15):
But again they're going to have to hit, you know,
as soon as pitching as well.
Speaker 7 (46:19):
Given the fact that your team has had success against her,
Kennedy I'm talking about as well as the most recent
of success against Oklahoma. You think your group's going to
have a really good feeling regardless of who comes out
of that other side to match up with for the championship.
Speaker 4 (46:35):
Yeah, we've got to feel good about ourselves. We can't
be worried about what the other team's going to do.
And I think you know our team kind of sit
that in the press conference today, is we have to
worry more about what we're going to do than what
the other team's going to do. Obviously, we're going to
have to have a game plan against who when we play,
but we've got to have that confidence that we've played
these teams and we've played in this environment and we
can beat them.
Speaker 2 (46:54):
Mike, I appreciate the time as always.
Speaker 7 (46:56):
I'm glad you had a chance to in a very
pleasant way cat breath coming off the win, and obviously
appreciate you joining us again. Wish you the best of
luck and we'll be watching and listening very very carefully.
Good luck in this one and beginning on Wednesday.
Speaker 3 (47:10):
Thank you, Greg. I appreciate being enough tolt fans and
hook them.
Speaker 10 (47:13):
Hook them.
Speaker 7 (47:14):
Indeed, that is Mike White, Texas softball coach. They're in
the national Championship round. They're going to play the winner
of Texas Tech and Oklahoma. Now again, if Oklahoma wins
this game against Tech, they forced one final if necessary game,
which Tennessee could have done had Tennessee been able to
beat Texas.
Speaker 2 (47:31):
Didn't happen.
Speaker 7 (47:32):
Great pitching for Mac and Morgan through the first four innings,
and then Teak and Caban and the Longhorns got enough runs.
We got a home run from Katie Stewart and then
scored a run on a throwing error as well. So
they win to nothing and they're in the championship round
and they will play the winner whoever comes out of
that other side, Oklahoma or Texas Tech. All right, coming up,
(47:52):
we'll update the regional baseball scoreboard for you, and we're
going to hear from Long Horns head coach him slasn Agle,
and Texas players as well. Here on this Monday afternoon here,
coming off of the weekend on sports Radio AM thirteen
under the Zone.
Speaker 11 (48:21):
Welcome back to the Craig Way Show and the voice
of the Longhorns.
Speaker 3 (48:25):
Craig Way.
Speaker 11 (48:26):
Follow Craig on social media at Horn Boys.
Speaker 7 (48:31):
All right, Thanks again to Texas softball coach Mike White
joining us. Not often you can get a head coach
of a team it's just qualified to play in a
National championship game to join you live, like an hour
and a half after his team had wrapped up its
semi final win. But we appreciate coach White joining us
there to talk about that. Texas Softball in the National
(48:52):
Championship round against the winner of the matchup between Oklahoma
and Texas Tech. Speaking of Oklahoma, the Sooner baseball team
had pushed Carolina into a final lyff necessary game in
the regional and the contest right now is in the
bottom of the fourth inning. Oklahoma is the designated visiting
home team home team, but the Sooners have some climbing
(49:13):
they do. They're down eight to two to North Carolina.
It was three nothing Tar Heels. Sooners pulled it within
a run at three two, and then North Carolina had
a four run third and scored a run on the
top of the fourth. We're in the bottom of the
fourth inning right now at Boshmer Stadium in Chapel Hill.
North Carolina leads Oklahoma eight to two. If the tar
Heels win, that Regional. They will host the super Regional
(49:35):
against Arizona. Arizona won the regional up in Eugene, Oregon
against the twelve seat. Oregon went two in barbecue. They
were the first national seat to get knocked out. There
was that controversial play. I don't know if you may
have seen it by now the highlights late late Friday night.
I was watching it live when it happened where the
runner was coming in for Utah Valley I guess it was,
(49:58):
and coming in for Oregon, and first they called interference
on the catcher, then reversed the call called obstruction on
the part of the runner and ejected him from the
ball game, which meant he was ineligible for the next game.
It caused a lot of heated comments from a lot
of different people, including broadcasters as well. You know, it's
(50:21):
since they've redefined and continue to redefine that rule about
fielding your position and blocking the plate and all that
other kind of stuff. It's very blurry in terms of
trying to figure out exactly what the call should be
in that situation. Because the runner is coming up, coming
in high with the hands up a little bit, and
(50:42):
that's what the umpire you used to help him determine
his ruling on that, and then they had.
Speaker 2 (50:50):
I think it was a sixteen minute delay. It was something.
It was a long long delay.
Speaker 13 (51:00):
You know.
Speaker 7 (51:00):
I'd gotten home Friday night. I had left the uh
the matchup between uts A and K State, and I
wasn't feeling well and I had to get back to
the house. Went back to the house, and UH saw
that happen on that. So anyway, that's that's it's the
(51:22):
situation on that. A couple of offerings on the on
the text line. So they said in baseball, be where
the three to one count went on defense and the
one two count when batting, it usually doesn't work out.
Speaker 2 (51:36):
Well, it's a good point, very good point.
Speaker 7 (51:40):
Uh, with the whole thing we were talking about Harty's
and Carl's Junior not so, he said, Carls Junior is
the dr Wiener Schnitzel of the Hamburger world, because you
can get Hamburger's at Wiener Stitzel.
Speaker 2 (51:51):
Have we get a Hamburger winnerst You've never been to Wiener.
Speaker 10 (51:54):
Snitz No, no Stitzel.
Speaker 2 (51:57):
Get out of here.
Speaker 3 (51:58):
Are you kidding?
Speaker 10 (51:58):
As food hot dogs?
Speaker 2 (52:00):
Talk to Jeff Howe about it. I tell you.
Speaker 8 (52:03):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (52:03):
The of course this is coming from a guy who
is a teenager. You are, you were the king of Weening.
I thanks, I appreciate you putting in that way.
Speaker 7 (52:11):
I did work at a place called Weener King in
Greensboro and Battleground on high Point Road.
Speaker 10 (52:16):
The uh uh uh.
Speaker 2 (52:18):
There's a Wiener Stintsel across the street from Q two Stadium.
Speaker 10 (52:21):
You can't miss it. About ugly red and yellow and
you can't not miss them.
Speaker 7 (52:25):
There used to be one in Cedar Park, right there
on Bell Boulevard. It's there's a pizza place there now,
but it's right there on Bell Boulevard. There used to
be one there.
Speaker 10 (52:35):
So anyway, that's the keeping that place open.
Speaker 2 (52:39):
Lots of people. I don't know, keeping the Wieners.
Speaker 9 (52:41):
I feel like, you know, watch dogs are good, but
I mean you gotta be in the you gotta be
in a hot dog mood.
Speaker 10 (52:47):
Yeah, like hamburgers and chicken and all that.
Speaker 9 (52:50):
Understand, Like, hey, I ain't sent for lunch something other
Chick fil a or McDonald's hot dog for lunch.
Speaker 7 (52:56):
There used to be a place near over near suit Patrick.
It was all burn It. It was in that shopping
center of their called man bites dog. It was a
good hot dog joint. It was for a while they
had that for there. Anyways, Carls Junior is the your
Wiener Schnitzel of the Hamburger that started in California Wiener Stinsel,
and it's still there. And then with regard to the
(53:18):
softball Summer Final between Oklahom and Texas Tech, someone text
and I hope, oh you wins the first game. I
get where you're coming on that, because what you want
is whoever wins, you want them to be a bit depleted.
And n Igerie Kennedy has been really, really good. And
even if you want Texas Tech to beat Oklahoma, you're
probably wanting UH at least the Sooners to win that
(53:41):
one game and then maybe Tech when they even if
you're rooting for Tech, no matter who you're rooting for,
I think you're wanting Oklahoma will at least whin the
first game and kind of extend them a little bit more.
We'll see how all that's going on.
Speaker 9 (53:54):
I think you you want Tech to win, Craig, I
understand that Kennedy's probably maybe the best picture in all
of softball, but remember, you know you just talked about
with Mike White. You're playing in Oklahoma's backyard, and they
don't lose too often in Okay. See, they especially don't
lose more than.
Speaker 10 (54:12):
Once in case.
Speaker 7 (54:13):
Yeah happened a while since they are the four time
defending national champions. All right, let's hear from long Worns
head coach Hims losting on Texas players. This is the
press conference after the season ending loss last night to UTSA.
Speaker 10 (54:26):
Yeah, congratulations Utsa, as I told Coach Hallmark at home plate,
And yeah, it's not a fly by night team. That's
a real team. That's an Omahall caliber club in every way.
They can play a lot of different brands of baseball,
they can pitch, and certainly they, like I said the
(54:47):
other night, they have a definitely have a persona about
them and a winning, winning persona. So I thought, we,
you know, we just we gave them too many free
bases there in one inning Hodge got the big two
out hit. Uh, you know, we just didn't bunch our hits,
and we you know, we didn't have some balls fall
in light or made an awesome play in center field.
(55:08):
I was proud probably where our guys competed pretty banged up,
which every team is, but really proud of our team.
And and as I just told him, you know, no
disrespect to the teams in the past, but this is
the first team at Texas that's ever had to play
through the SEC and to beat SEC champion and host
(55:30):
the regional. Uh, we all understand Omaha is where we
all want to end up. But when you go forty
four and fourteen in our league, it doesn't make it
a bad season just to not the not the right ending.
Speaker 6 (55:42):
So that's all I got, aans coach, We'll start with
questions now, please raise your hand.
Speaker 3 (55:50):
We'll bring them.
Speaker 10 (55:50):
Mike friends around.
Speaker 2 (55:51):
We'll start with Kirk on the left.
Speaker 14 (55:56):
Jim, as far as you know, May wasn't real kind
of y'all, and you know, I don't know if you'll
lost some mojo or worn down, and with the loss
of Jared and everything booting, if you could just say
kind of what went wrong that maybe didn't play quiet
like y'all had almost.
Speaker 10 (56:10):
The whole year, that's a good question, you know, I think, uh,
I think we had a lot of things go away
the first two thirds of the season. You know, we
get the two out hit, we make the pitch, the
ball gets hit at us and we don't want a
lot of close games. Think about the A and M series.
I think they had the tying end, go ahead run
(56:33):
on base all three games to end the game. So
kind of living you know, in the in the margins,
and that's where the but that's where college baseball is.
I mean, that's the difference between the teams that advance
and the teams that don't. I haven't seen well everything
that went on today, but I know that there's a
lot of really good teams that aren't playing and anymore.
(56:55):
And that just means that you know, the game of
basement game of baseball got them, and there's a so
other good teams. I mean, UTSA is really good. I
watched Right State play. They're they're good, you know. And
and that doesn't just because you're in just because you're
in the SEC, or just because you're in a Power
of five league or power whatever league, doesn't mean there
isn't great baseball being played other places. And you have
(57:15):
to go play well at the right time. So so
I don't besides injury, I mean, certainly to answer your question, Kirk,
the snowball effect of all of that, Uh, maybe you
could say that, but you know, we just have to
be a better team, a deeper team over time.
Speaker 15 (57:35):
In case you just kind of your overall thoughts and
I'm sure as a disappointing moment for you in this
team and just not being able to accomplish what you
all wanted to accomplish this year.
Speaker 16 (57:44):
Yeah, you know, I mean last nine months, I could
truly say like it's been the most fun I've had
playing baseball my whole life. And you know, we have
a brotherhood in there, and I mean it doesn't get
better than that. You know, our season and the way
we wanted to but that's why we next year, come back,
ready to go next year.
Speaker 8 (58:06):
Questions for Casey on the right, Casey, Uh, not the
cleanest game in the infield over the last few games,
but as a veteran, what were you trying to do
to keep it together in there and try to try
to make the best defensive plays as possible.
Speaker 16 (58:20):
Yeah, we talk a lot about you know, if it
happens this ta can go. It happened a million years ago,
meaning you just move on to the next pitch. And
you know, we made a lot of mistakes which can't
happen in ball games like this and must win games.
So that's something that we have to be better at
for next year, and you know, our preparation is going
to be even better for next year to ensure that
(58:42):
that won't happen again.
Speaker 17 (58:44):
We'll go from the left casey on's the emotion of
of what you're feeling right now kind of goes away.
How do you think you'll remember this year?
Speaker 10 (58:55):
You know?
Speaker 16 (58:55):
Like I said, I mean, last nine months been the
best nine months of my life. I've never had this
much fun playing baseball with this team. It's just yeah,
I mean, it sucks right now. We're gonna get through
it and we'll go next year. We'll go on the
(59:16):
left Kirk.
Speaker 14 (59:18):
Case, you from your standpoint in the teams, Uh, did
you feel like yall lost a lot of momentum, you
know once you turned into May for whatever reason, because
you guys have been such a hot streak for three
months before that.
Speaker 10 (59:32):
Yeah, I mean, I think that's just part of That's
just baseball.
Speaker 3 (59:35):
It's a hard game.
Speaker 16 (59:36):
You're not gonna win every single game, and that's where
it goes back to just moving on to the next pitch.
Speaker 3 (59:42):
Every day's opening day.
Speaker 16 (59:44):
We definitely could be could do a better job of
that going forward and just leave no nothing to nothing behind.
Speaker 2 (59:53):
Go ahead, Cedric.
Speaker 18 (59:55):
In case you were with the conversations like between games,
you know you guys got how far offensively and how
are you guys feeling coming into the night camp.
Speaker 3 (01:00:05):
Yeah, I mean I think we felt good overall. You know,
we're gonna get our swing.
Speaker 16 (01:00:10):
Off and try to do damage, put put together a
team of bats and compete the hardest we can, knowing
that it's a must win game or we go home.
So I mean, overall, we felt pretty good. I think
as an offense going into the game, get interest in it,
end up how we wanted.
Speaker 2 (01:00:29):
We'll go to the right tag.
Speaker 19 (01:00:31):
Go ahead, canc So, thinking about this season, what would
you say, or if you even think about it, what's
your most what are you most proud.
Speaker 10 (01:00:39):
Of over this last season?
Speaker 16 (01:00:42):
Yeah, I mean, I think just the total compete that
we've had throughout the year. I mean, we didn't end
the way we wanted to, the last couple of months
weren't the best for us, But I mean we won
the SEC regular season. I mean that's something to be
proud about. Definitely not the greatest thing we could have
(01:01:03):
done this year. We could have done way more but
just didn't go our way.
Speaker 2 (01:01:10):
Any other questions for Casey seeing none?
Speaker 6 (01:01:16):
Thank you, Casey. You're good to go back to locker room.
We'll continue now with questions for coach. Raise your hand,
let me know if you have a question, and bring
the microphones around.
Speaker 10 (01:01:27):
We'll go on your.
Speaker 17 (01:01:28):
Left, Jim, once you have some distance. I guess from
this moment, do you think you'll you'll look upon this
season and what you achieved as a success.
Speaker 2 (01:01:42):
For sure?
Speaker 10 (01:01:42):
Yeah, I can. I feel very confident in saying that,
know what we know now relative to June twenty or
twenty six this time. You know last year that we
got one hand. I mean, we're not an We're not
gonna be in an Omaha, so we didn't get the
most out of our team. But I feel like that
(01:02:06):
compared to where we started to where we are today,
program's in really good shape, headed in the right direction,
and I feel confident that our coaching staff, given the situation,
got the most out of our team. And I can.
Speaker 2 (01:02:21):
I can put.
Speaker 10 (01:02:22):
I won't sleep for a while because we're not playing anymore.
The saddest thing is just to not wake up tomorrow
and be able to go to practice. That's the worst
part and to be around the guys and so so yeah,
it's it's I understand the standard, I get it. But
you can have a good season and not end up
(01:02:43):
in Omaha. And that's that's part of it. You know,
it's tournament baseball, and so uh, just like any other
age of play, you can play poorly where the other
team can play awesome on a couple of days, and
it can go the opposite direction.
Speaker 18 (01:03:00):
Sadrick, go ahead, June and the loss of Jared was
did we underestimate how big that was gonna be aspose
the people on the outside looking in.
Speaker 10 (01:03:11):
I don't know if we under I mean, we didn't
underestimate it. We knew, you know, I mean I knew
going into the season that for us to have a
great year, our best players had to stay healthy and
they had to had to have really good seasons. And
some of them did and some of them are just okay.
But to lose a marquee pitcher like that, given where
we are in the program, yeah, that's tough one.
Speaker 13 (01:03:35):
You know.
Speaker 10 (01:03:36):
I think we picked up slack as best as possible,
Guys like Ethan Walker and Hudson Hamilton, you know, not
to mention Grubs Valantis Burns. We've been riding those guys
all year, Ruger to the rotation. It's definitely not the
way we drew it up to start the year, but
I feel like we adjusted throughout the course of the season.
Ended up forty four and fourteen out of the sec.
(01:03:58):
It puts us in position. You know, our job is
to be My job is our coaching staff's job is
to put ourselves in a position to get to Omahall.
We did that, but we just didn't execute in the
games needed to win the games in the regional. Let's
go in the back and then we'll come back here.
Speaker 8 (01:04:16):
Coach, What was behind the decision to keep Violent in
the game when he seemed to be invisible paying every
time he swung them bad?
Speaker 10 (01:04:24):
I don't know what he said, Uh be because you
we're at the last game. Yeah. I asked him a
thousand times, ay man, you need to get you and
he said it only hurts after I swing. So it
is what it is. Went went behind the decision was
(01:04:46):
him he can still play. I mean he's got a
base hit the last at bat, competitive at bats, the
whole whole game. But who knows, you know, he's got
it's he took a really rough one there in the
first game. Let's go to the left, Danny.
Speaker 15 (01:05:02):
Were you able to diagnose throughout the season why the
hit by pitches were an issue, especially tonight.
Speaker 10 (01:05:10):
No, I mean, yeah, it's obviously a horrific issue. I
think some of that is pitching style. We don't have big,
big fastball arms yet in this program, and so we
throw a ton of off speed pitches, a ton of
(01:05:31):
We're known for that. I think the overall work of
body of work on the pitching staff over the course
of the season it's really good. But the obviously the
hit batters was I mean, we pretty much hit a
small country over the course of the year. I can't
do that next year. But yes, I don't know how.
(01:05:53):
I don't know what you do. I mean, there's no
sign I'm giving him to say hit the guy. It's
just that, Seriously, most of them almost all off speed pitches,
and they're all off speed pitches that get away from
But those are the same off speed pitches that got
the guys out. So believe me, I don't I don't
like it either. I'm sure from a fan perspective, it's
even worse, Kurt Goohead, can.
Speaker 14 (01:06:15):
You talk a little bit about starting Hudson the decision
and did you even consider starting Dylan.
Speaker 10 (01:06:22):
I didn't think about starting Dylan, thought about starting Burns,
but we felt like Hudson could get us off to
a good start. With exception of one pitch which McClure
got to put a good swing on it, I thought
he did fine. Walker. He's been money for us for
the last month. I mean, the whole reason that we're
(01:06:43):
even here is he was throwing strikes, and he he
hit two guys, loaded the bases, and then you know,
we got the ball to grubs right on right to
to tie, and and he hung a breaking ball and
tied smoked. So credit to Ty Hodge. No, I wasn't.
I mean, I didn't think. I didn't think about doing that,
(01:07:06):
Giving that he threw, you know, some pitches last night.
I wanted him to be deeper in the game. But
you could make an argument for it, for sure. Believe me,
I'll question all of it my own mind. On your right, Kerry,
go ahead.
Speaker 19 (01:07:21):
So I'd like to ask you what I asked Casey,
even though the season didn't end the way you wanted it,
what are you most proud of I mean, you had
a great season.
Speaker 10 (01:07:28):
Yeah, just just most proud of the way our kids
handled themselves. You know, it's a lot to go through
a coaching change. It's a lot to go through what
they went through last year, and you know, turmoil in
the summer. You know, pretty much everybody on the team's
a transfer because you have I mean literally, because even
the guys that were here are coming in working with
(01:07:49):
the new coaching staff. And I guess the thing is
just the buy in the leadership was incredible. Shustler gal
on Jalen me keep going, Max. I mean, all those
guys are just just if I if I had told
them today, hey, grab the we're gonna hit with We're
(01:08:10):
gonna hold the barrel today, we're just gonna hit with
the handle, which sometimes looked like we were doing that,
but they'd have done it. I mean, there's total buy in.
Coach will do whatever you say. I mean, that's that's
hard to find. And uh, we ended up not where
we wanted to end the season, but forty four and
fourteen is a good year. Let's go n Parker in
the back. It's Darby, That's okay.
Speaker 5 (01:08:33):
Everyone does that.
Speaker 20 (01:08:33):
It was coach.
Speaker 10 (01:08:35):
Obviously, you guys had seen UTSA before. What was the
concern level heading into this weekend? Just you know, the
that you'd seen them and lost of them earlier this season. Uh, well,
first of all, I have a good team, Like that's
that's that's what again, That's why I told coach har
Mark at home.
Speaker 2 (01:08:50):
Play like that's it's not a fluke.
Speaker 10 (01:08:54):
It's not a some team that had a losing record
and then all of a sudden showed up Pear and
one regional and it's a real team, right handed, left handed,
switch run power, different pictures out of the bullpen, and
a persona and and so you know, and that's that's
it's more than just beating Texas. I mean, they have
a good team and coach and they're they're very well coached,
(01:09:16):
and coach Hallmark has been around the block man, and
I'm it sucked. I mean, I hate it for us,
but I'm super happy for him, and Coach Graham would
be super proud of him, and I know that means
a lot to him, and and so, uh, you know,
I've been in a different jersey and wanted postseason tournament
on this field, so I know, I know what that
feels like to to try to get your program over
(01:09:37):
the hump, and it stinks for stinks for us, But
I'm truly happy for coach Hallmark. It's really good and
his team.
Speaker 2 (01:09:47):
Just go to the right go ahead.
Speaker 21 (01:09:48):
Coach Jerry Briggs from San Antonio, I want to ask
about the first inning y'all's first at bat, the run
across the plate.
Speaker 2 (01:09:58):
We thought it was like a pass ball or or wall.
Speaker 21 (01:10:01):
Pitch or something, and then they then it ended up,
you know, eventually being taken off the board.
Speaker 10 (01:10:05):
What was the explanation there. Yeah, he swung and missed
and the ball hit his foot. It hit his foot, yeah, yeah,
so dead ball is like three dead ball over?
Speaker 3 (01:10:15):
Was there a do you think there was a.
Speaker 2 (01:10:20):
Did that?
Speaker 19 (01:10:20):
Did that?
Speaker 21 (01:10:21):
Did that have an effect on y'all early in the game,
just to have one taken off?
Speaker 10 (01:10:26):
I mean, it would have been nice to see the
next guy hit Borba who hit two homers the first
game with the bases loaded, But uh, but no, I
mean it was the right It was the right call.
I mean, obviously they reviewed it. So all those things
and again those are the margins, you know, they got
off the field. And then in the thirteen. We couldn't
get off the field, which is why they're still playing.
Speaker 7 (01:10:49):
So uh there it is Jim's last Nigel with the
postgame press conference from last night there certainly giving credit
to and and rightly so to UTSA.
Speaker 2 (01:10:59):
That's our It is a very good team.
Speaker 7 (01:11:01):
That reminds me of a lot of other dangerous two
seeds I've seen come in here in the past, and
it kind of reminds me of that U see R
Vine team I saw back in two thousand and seven
that had been Orloff, who's now the head coach of
the and Eaters, and they came in and won at
that region that was played at Del Diamond and they
went on to Omaha to the College World Series. So
(01:11:23):
it kind of reminds me of that group a little
bit and how aggressive they are and how hard nosed
and all that, and the reflection of their head coach
Pat Hallmark for sure. All right, we'll be back to
wrap up our number two on thirteen.
Speaker 10 (01:11:34):
Under the Zone.
Speaker 7 (01:11:35):
On thirteen Under the Zone, Craig Way alongside the producer
Cameron Parker, Glad to have you with us here on
this Monday afternoon, coming off the weekend that saw the
baseball season unfortunately from the Texas perspective, come to an end.
Congratulations out A, UTSA, a great year, a landmark here
(01:11:56):
for them. For Pat Hallmark's group, at one time an
assistant at Rice alongside David Pearson were both assistants for
Wayne Graham. At Rice and then coach Hallmark did a
heck of a job at UIW incarnate word one Southern
Conference Coach of the Year honors there and then one
American Athletic Conference Coach of the Year honors at UTSA.
And now they're moving on in the region super Regionals
(01:12:19):
for the first time and they'll go to Los Angeles
to take on UCLA. UCLA is probably happy about it
because they don't have to come to Austin, which they
would have had to do at Texas one of the regional.
Now UCLA gets loose the super regional, so they'll be
headed out there. And not all of the super Regional
matchups are set yet because there are several if necessary
(01:12:41):
games to be played. One is going on right now
between North Carolina and Oklahoma, and Oklahoma is the designated
home team for this game. They made this game necessary
last night because it made this game necessary last night
(01:13:05):
because they beat North Carolina, so.
Speaker 2 (01:13:08):
They had to play one more time.
Speaker 7 (01:13:09):
North Carolina had beaten the Sooners on Saturday night, Oklahoma
State a live by eliminating Nebraska and then beating North
Carolina last night, so they had to play one more time.
And right now they're in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Oklahoma at bat again the designated home team, and North
Carolina leeds eight to two. It was a three to
two ball game and through two innings and then Carolina
scored four runs and the third and the tar Hills
(01:13:31):
had it another run in the fourth and North Carolina's
gone to the bullpen for they started a freshman today
and he gave them five innings, a career high for him.
So anyway, it is eight to two. North Carolina's playing Oklahoma.
Now here's the quirk with the scheduling thing. The winner
(01:13:52):
of this game, and if it is North Carolina, if
they go on to the win, they will host the
Super Regional against Arizona because there was number five national seat.
Arizona's sitting back and waiting and to see what happens there.
Because the Wildcats won that won the regional and Eugene,
Oregon because Oregon went to and barbecue there Arizona defeated
(01:14:13):
cal Poly to win, to eliminate him and to win that. Okay,
so that's that's still to be decided, although they're now
in the bottom of the sixth. Meanwhile, there are other
games being uh that have to be decided today and
(01:14:34):
it's and and it's kind of bizarre really because it's
you have all of these, if necessary, games that have
to be decided, and ESPN has all of these platforms
of course where they're televising these games to an extent,
(01:14:57):
and what I mean by to an extent is they're
you know, there's not as many put it this way,
there's not as many games available for their over the
air streaming platforms or over the air linear platforms as
they are other streaming as we know, like what if
(01:15:19):
you're just watching ESPN Plus or SEC Network Plus or
if you're watching, say, you know, one of one of
the other streaming platforms. So anyway, the way it the
way that it stands right now is you've got several
games waiting to be decided, and not all of these
(01:15:44):
games are going to be televised because several of them
are starting at the exact same time. So, uh, there's
one game at five, which is Ole Miss and Maurice State,
and these are all obviously if necessary games, final game games.
Ole Miss is playing Murray State and that game is
(01:16:06):
an SEC Network plus and ESPN plus Telecasseie.
Speaker 2 (01:16:10):
It's all on SEC network, all right.
Speaker 7 (01:16:12):
So there's that at five, and then at five o'clock
it's USC and Oregon State. That game is on ESPNU.
Also at five o'clock is Wake Forest and Tennessee. It's
on the ESPN two. Then you've got LSU and Little Rock,
which is going to be at eight o'clock, and Miami
(01:16:34):
and Southern Miss at the exact same time at eight o'clock.
They have all of these games that they're trying to
cram in on one time, and so you may have
to have a very nimble thumb working you're remote if
you're going to do that. But anyway, it's eight to
two is the score right now, North Carolina on top
of Oklahoma. And we'll take note of some more of
this a little bit later on, but up next a
(01:16:54):
review of that Texas softball win this afternoon that has
the long Horns in the National Championship Series will visit
with Andrew Haynes, who made the call of that right
here on thirteen hunder his own.
Speaker 1 (01:17:04):
One and two now on Clark the Longhorns fans standing
in the Longhorn Specific section behind the third base dugout
and in many places around the park.
Speaker 3 (01:17:14):
One two pitch.
Speaker 1 (01:17:15):
Swaying in a miss and Texas, for the second year
in a row, will play for the national Championship. Two
runs against Carlin Pickens is all the Longhorns got. It's
all they needed. Katie Stewart with a solo shot in
the fourth and the throwing error with two out in
(01:17:39):
the sixth inning, and Teaguan Cavan came in and relief
in the fifth inning walk the first batter sheet face
did not allow anyone else to reach base safely. Set
down nine in a row to send the Longhorns to
the Championship Series starting Wednesday, where they'll face either oklahom
(01:18:00):
or Texas Tech.
Speaker 7 (01:18:02):
Yeah, and exciting times for Texas Softball. The guy who
had that call there on the final ounce, a voice
of Longhorn Softball, Andrew Haynes joins is now from Oklahoma City.
Get a chance to cool? How hot is it up there?
By the way, was it like it was here yesterday?
Ninety six degrees?
Speaker 2 (01:18:19):
Not quite that hot? Up there?
Speaker 10 (01:18:20):
Is it not quite that hot?
Speaker 1 (01:18:23):
I think it was in the eighties for most of
the game, maybe got into the nineties, but it wasn't
too bad.
Speaker 2 (01:18:26):
Okay, all right? So I started asking you cooling off.
Speaker 7 (01:18:29):
That's a metacorphorical phrase as well as a physical thing
there for everybody to get a chance to chill out
a little bit. And the beauty of it isn't it
also Andrew getting this thing done without an if necessary
game to where they can relax. We had Mike White
on last hour and he said that, he said, several
little girls, we're talking about manicures and pedicures, and I
(01:18:49):
asked him if he was going to get one, and
maybe you have a coal malted beverage in his hand
while it was going on.
Speaker 2 (01:18:54):
He said, maybe that part of it, but not the other.
You know, that sort of thing. But it is a
Bummus says.
Speaker 7 (01:19:00):
It is a well earned a luxury to be able
for them to catch their breath and then just kind
of examine what happens tonight.
Speaker 1 (01:19:09):
Absolutely, especially with the team that they were playing with Tennessee.
You know, no doubt that Tennessee would have thrown Pickens
for a game two if they got there, maybe one
of their other pitchers who have been very good this year.
So getting it done the first game, getting to take
the rest of the day off, be able to maybe
watch a little bit of Oklahoma Texas Texas if you're
going to face and get mentally ready for that, it's
(01:19:30):
big for him.
Speaker 7 (01:19:31):
Curious to get your thoughts on today's game and the
way the thing unfolded, because both Pickens and mac morgan
were looking very, very solid. You made the comment at
the start of the game we were talking about Mac
and and you know Hower was the rough outing against
Texas A and M of the conference tournament. One thing
that Mike White had said was he said, at some
(01:19:52):
point when he joined us last week, we're gonna need her.
Speaker 2 (01:19:55):
We're gonna have to need her. He said.
Speaker 7 (01:19:57):
Tegan has done a great job, and we've leaned on
her more than then we have and maybe that's part
of the reason why she had some wobbles down the stretch,
he said, But we're gonna need mac morgan at some point.
And the ESPN broadcasters, you know, we're all Beth Mowens
and Michelle Smith. They were all just kind of marveling
at the strikeouts she was able to get since Mac
(01:20:19):
is normally a grand ball pitcher.
Speaker 5 (01:20:22):
Yeah, yeah, those strikeouts were surprising.
Speaker 1 (01:20:25):
You know, she she often strikes out about her or
too in the first inning, but then whether it be
the team starting to get a better look at her,
she just doesn't strike out too many throughout the rest
of the game.
Speaker 10 (01:20:36):
But it was huge.
Speaker 1 (01:20:39):
She pitched very well at the end of the Game
three of the Super Regional a little over a week
ago as well, So it wasn't you know, coming out
for the first time since that disastrous performance in the
SEC tournament. She had had a little bit of a
an experience to get the team to Oka see and
you know, she has the senior experience, and I think
(01:21:01):
it was it was a risky call. You know, you
never know what's gonna happen, but she's not your ace.
But she absolutely got the job done and absolutely should
be in the conversation for some good innings in the
championship series.
Speaker 7 (01:21:13):
Well, this here's the other thing I think that that's
interesting about this and I and I asked coach right
about it as well, and uh, he agreed in terms
of how it ultimately played out. Was the fact that
and asked him what the plan was. Was the plan
all along to pitch Mac until you got a lead?
(01:21:34):
Was it a middle innings strategy for sure?
Speaker 10 (01:21:37):
Did you?
Speaker 7 (01:21:38):
He said he thought the plan would be to try
to see if he could get five innings out of her.
But once they got the lead on the on the
Stewart homer, it was like, okay, time to turn to Kavan,
which in itself, I guess Andrew is a little bit
of a risk since she was going to have to
be the if necessary pitcher anyway, But it's not like
she hasn't pitched him back to back games before. It
just looked for the to try to slam the door
(01:22:00):
at that point, even before you got the insurance run
there in the bottom of the sixth.
Speaker 1 (01:22:07):
Right, Yeah, you know, if something goes wrong and she
starts to give us some runs, you definitely need her
to be at full strength for game two. He had
mentioned in the pregame interview that he was hoping to
be able to use Mac for a good chunk innings
and then go to the freshman cam Salmon and then
go to Cavan to finish it. Out if need be,
And I guess maybe just with the one nothing lead,
(01:22:29):
he just decided to skip over Salmon just say hey,
my experience, Cavan has been great at the World Series.
Speaker 5 (01:22:34):
Let's see if she can get us to the Championship series.
Speaker 7 (01:22:37):
Talking Texas Softball here with their play by play voice
and Er Hayes here on thirteen hundred the zone. How
big do you think the insurance run was in terms
of the mental thing? I mean, it's a little bit
different when you're protecting a two run lead instead of
just a single run, isn't it in terms of not
only for Tiguan, but also for the team because defense,
(01:22:58):
or in the cases of some of the teams that faltered,
the lack of it, has kind of reared its ugly
ahead in this College World Series.
Speaker 5 (01:23:06):
Absolutely, you know, the Longhorns defense has been mostly good.
Speaker 1 (01:23:10):
There was one error they committed in the second inning
game inst Oklahoma that led to an unearned run, but
overall they've played very good defense. And you know, honestly,
the defense has had its moments during the season where
they just weren't on point and so only a one
run lead, you know, one mistake by a player get
a runner and scoring position, and Tennessee had a couple
(01:23:33):
of hot bats coming up, some players who have some
home run pop and you never know. So getting that
second run was absolutely huge to probably settle everyone's mind,
certainly mine of the press box as well.
Speaker 2 (01:23:45):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (01:23:45):
Well all right, So, as much time as you've spent
around this team, in traveling with them and broadcast in
the games, do you since a different air or a
more confident, self assured, veteran air about this group simply
because they played in this event, they played in the
championship round a year ago, and now they were able
(01:24:08):
to kind of slay the dragon, so to speak, at
least once, to get a win over Oklahoma in Oklahoma City,
which they hadn't been able to do all of those
things together. Does it present a different air of confidence,
even with work still to be done here before they
get into the championship round?
Speaker 8 (01:24:28):
Yeah?
Speaker 10 (01:24:28):
I think so.
Speaker 1 (01:24:29):
I actually ran into me A Scott in the elevator
at the hotel after that Oklahoma game and asked her,
you know, how's that feel? And she was like extremely happy.
She's like I'm done losing to them, basically is what
she said. And so I think this team is in
the past. You know, they might have been intimidated still
even though they're very good by that Oklahoma in the
(01:24:49):
front of the jersey, by the you know, eleven thousand
Oklahoma fans in the stands, in the you know, twelve
thousand plus attendance. And I think this team has just
kind of said, you know what, you know, it is
what it is, We've experienced it, and we're just gonna
ignore it and then play our game.
Speaker 2 (01:25:04):
Interested to get your thoughts on this.
Speaker 7 (01:25:06):
This is something else I ask to Mike White and
I and I preface this with the words in a
perfect world. Now we know we don't live in a
perfect world, but in a perfect world. And I'm just
curious to see if you had any thought about this.
You know, there's been a lot of conversation, comments, and
in some cases complaining from some of the other coaches
(01:25:28):
and players about that home field advantage that Oklahoma enjoys
on the deal, and when I ask Coach White about it,
his team seem to be nonpluss about it. Said how
much does that do to just having played up there
so much? And he said that has something to do
with it, But at some point it just gets down
to excuse making if you don't.
Speaker 2 (01:25:45):
If you don't, so you do have to block it
out and go forward.
Speaker 7 (01:25:47):
But in the perfect world, could the NCAA, you know,
once it gets beyond this contract they've got with the
city because of Devon Park and everything they've done, be
some sort of let's say, a neutral site twelve to
fifteen thousand seat Ballpark stadium. And I even brought up
(01:26:08):
the Dallas Forward Metroplex. And the reason why I bring
that up is because Frisco touts itself as a championship
city PGA headquarters there. They've got, you know, all this
other stuff that's up there, and there's no major collegiate
softball anywhere close other than North Texas. But they're not
a national power that could give a perceived home field advantage.
(01:26:32):
I just brought that up, But it could be anywhere
Los Angeles, it could be you know, some other plagues.
Would that Would that be a better scenario in your mind,
a better scene for them to do than to do
this deal? Or is it because it's so well attended
in the commitment there that it's going to look good
even if Oklahoma does have that home field advantage, which
is more than just perceived.
Speaker 3 (01:26:53):
Yeah, that's tough to say.
Speaker 1 (01:26:54):
I think the fact that Oklahoma packs the stands, it's
great optics for sure. I you know, once the contract ends,
maybe it's something that you look at, you know, take
a look at something in the LA area.
Speaker 5 (01:27:09):
Take a look at the.
Speaker 1 (01:27:12):
Maybe the Columbus Georgia where they held the ninety six
Olympic Softball tournament, and see how much you can spruce
that place up and pack fans in. You know, might
might end up having to find a place that has
lower capacity, but I think you can probably find a
good place that'll be it's somewhat central located and easy
to get to, and you still have some big attendances.
(01:27:34):
And you know, honestly, they're starting to use some some
baseball diamons as well. You know, in the twenty twenty
one Tokyo Olympics, the softball was played on baseball diamonds.
Speaker 5 (01:27:43):
That's just how they do it in Japan.
Speaker 1 (01:27:45):
And the Huntsville, Alabama the trash Panda Stadium, I think
it was that you've used for like an early steed
in softball tournament this year, the SEC actually just announced
that they've the league's athletic dress have allowed the conference
to explore using a neutral site for their conference tournament
for softball, and rumors are it's the trash banded stadium
(01:28:08):
and they're going to try to see how they can
make that work for SEC tournament.
Speaker 5 (01:28:12):
So that might be an option down the road.
Speaker 7 (01:28:14):
Hey listen, I know in one of your your avocations
you sit up in the press box of Dell Diamond
your official score for Round Rock Express. I know kat
Osterman has a team getting ready to play and there
they're going to have a pro league game in their
Dell Diamond. That's another example of it. Right, they could
be a situation like that.
Speaker 5 (01:28:31):
Right, absolutely, absolutely.
Speaker 1 (01:28:34):
You know, bigger stadiums, and I think in some of
those stadiums you don't have a lot of seats in
the outfield. So with all the room you have in
the baseball outfield, you can probably bring in more bleachers
and might be able to even surpass what the stadium
of the Devon Park here and no case he can build.
Speaker 7 (01:28:50):
Talking with Andrew Haynes here a voice of long worn softball, Okay,
let me get your thoughts on this. Who It's going
to be easy, let me put it this way. Easy,
it's going to be easier for long worn fans to
root for Texas Tech than it is for Oklahoma. Even
though listened as many years as I've done games football,
men's basketball, women's basketball, and baseball between Texas and Texas Tech,
(01:29:11):
I know there's no love loss there at all, But
just you know the mere fact, and they've had success
against Nigerie Kennedy. They're in Oklahoma City in the pass
is in your view, is it a better scenario for
Texas if they're facing Texas Tech than Oklahoma?
Speaker 18 (01:29:29):
I think so.
Speaker 3 (01:29:30):
I think so.
Speaker 1 (01:29:31):
They also beat Nigerie Kennedy earlier this year in Austin
nine inning game. Team Cavan struck at eighteen probably the
best performance I've seen from her in her career so far.
And Texas tex offense just isn't as good as Oklahoma's.
You know, they have Kennedy, and the last couple of years,
Kennedy took Stanford to what the World Series and got
(01:29:52):
very little run support. I really feel like if Kevan's
pitshing like she has been, if Morgan pitches like she
has been, then the long Horns, you know, they can
scratch out a runner two against Kennedy and they can
get the job done against Texas Tech against Oklahoma. You
never know that's you know, their their pitcher Sam Landry,
who used to pitch for Texas Tech head coach Jerry
(01:30:13):
Glasgow out Louisiana.
Speaker 5 (01:30:15):
She's been very good this year.
Speaker 1 (01:30:17):
Their offense is much better than Texas Tech, even though
it's not what it used to be at Oklahoma the
last couple of years.
Speaker 5 (01:30:23):
I think that they're just a more dangerous team. Oklahoma
is okay.
Speaker 2 (01:30:27):
Hey, I appreciate the time and listen. When you get
extended stays in Oklahoma City, have you have you.
Speaker 7 (01:30:32):
Now fledged out all the important restaurants and in watering
holes up there?
Speaker 16 (01:30:37):
Yeah?
Speaker 22 (01:30:37):
You know.
Speaker 1 (01:30:37):
I have my favorites. I have a couple that I
like to hit. I have a couple of old school
ones that from from my past.
Speaker 3 (01:30:43):
I used to like that.
Speaker 5 (01:30:44):
They have the location here too, So I've certainly been
able to get a lot of my.
Speaker 10 (01:30:48):
Favorites up here.
Speaker 5 (01:30:49):
Nick Scrill, a part of that answer, I can't say
I've ever been there.
Speaker 23 (01:30:55):
Wow.
Speaker 7 (01:30:55):
Oh yeah yourself. Well, let me just ask you this, Andrew,
do you enjoy good Hamburger?
Speaker 5 (01:31:02):
Absolutely?
Speaker 2 (01:31:03):
All right, it's going to be a top ten for you.
Trust me.
Speaker 7 (01:31:05):
Trust both of us on this in I see Nick Grill,
and you want to go to the one, okay, see yeah, yeah,
it's it's it's a shock, it is.
Speaker 2 (01:31:17):
It's six tools and maybe a couple of boots.
Speaker 7 (01:31:19):
Nick Grill, That's that's where you want to go to
have the hamburger there and then and then class and
Grill is my favorite breakfast bout there. But anyway, I'm yeah,
I had I hadn't spent near as much time in
recent years as you have up there. So listen, enjoy it,
and uh we'll look forward to the calls throughout the
course here on the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 2 (01:31:36):
Thanks for thanks for the time today, Andrew, I appreciate
it great.
Speaker 7 (01:31:39):
All right you met. That's Andrew Haynes, voice of Longhorned Softball.
Hopefully he'll get an opportunity to uh to visit Nick Grill.
Speaker 10 (01:31:49):
Yeah, I hope he listens to us. Want Andrew try
it out.
Speaker 3 (01:31:52):
Let us know.
Speaker 9 (01:31:54):
I mean, he's gonna be up there for you know,
at least you know, three four more days. So yeah,
you gotta have a lee one hamburger to treat yourself.
It was National Hamburger Day. What a couple of days
ago it was.
Speaker 10 (01:32:05):
It was and.
Speaker 7 (01:32:08):
You know, women and I took advantage that we said
we were gonna have to have to do that. Updating
the baseball reagion. While Oklahoma has gotten a run back,
Jason Walk with a home run in the bottom of
the seventh inning. Again, Oklahoma is the designated home team
for this if necessary, winner take all game against North Carolina.
Jason Walk with a solo homer one out, but the
(01:32:30):
tar Hill still lead the Sooners eight three as Oklahoma
bats in the bottom half of the seventh inning. Up next,
we're gonna hear from head coach Mike White from the
news conference Mike White and players from the Texas news
conference as the log Worns advanced to that national Championship series.
And we'll keep you updated on this regional matchup as
well when we continue on thirteen under the Zone.
Speaker 3 (01:32:51):
We're back.
Speaker 11 (01:32:52):
It's the Craigway Show with Hall of Fame broadcaster and
voice of the Texas Longhearts Craig Way.
Speaker 7 (01:33:05):
All right, Thanksgod, Andrew Haynes joining us. Let's let's hear
from Mike White and Texas players. And this was after
the long Warns to Nothing went over Tennessee, propelling Texas
into the National Championship Series of the Women's College World Series, which.
Speaker 24 (01:33:18):
Wined by Texas head coach Mike White and players Teagan Cavan,
Katie Stewart and Macmorgan. A reminder to please silence your
cell phones, keep your name in media affiliation when you
get the mic to ask a question. No recording of
the press conference with your cell phone is allowed. If
you're on the zoom and you want to ask a question,
you used to raise hand function. We'll start with an
opening statement from coach White, go to questions just for players,
(01:33:39):
dismiss the players.
Speaker 10 (01:33:41):
And then go to back to questions just for coach Whites.
Speaker 4 (01:33:43):
If you have no nick statement, yeah, well, congratulations to
Tennessee on a great season. Obviously it's not finishing the
way they wanted to finish for sure, But Colin Pickens
was a real warrior out there and threw a hot
out up for her team.
Speaker 3 (01:33:56):
Unfortunately we were on the right side of it.
Speaker 4 (01:33:58):
We had just enough win to help that and run
go over, so that was fortunate there for somebody was
looking down on us.
Speaker 3 (01:34:03):
I think maybe Teagans grandma, so she puffed one out there.
Speaker 4 (01:34:07):
But you know, I also like to thank my coaching stuff,
doing a trima tremendous job, you know, scouting those teams
we've played so far and looking forward to the next matchup.
Speaker 22 (01:34:17):
Okay, questions for players, Okay, we'll start front row left
Thomas Jon's Austin American statesman Mac. You know you had
some ups and downs late in the season, but these
last two games against Clemson and today, what's been working
for you mentally?
Speaker 10 (01:34:34):
What did you change?
Speaker 3 (01:34:35):
What's been the difference?
Speaker 10 (01:34:37):
You know, it's like I have nothing to lose.
Speaker 23 (01:34:38):
Is my last year, it's my last time out here,
and I'm gonna I'm gonna enjoy it and just being
out there and doing my job and competing.
Speaker 10 (01:34:46):
Okay, front right, Brady Brady ran in South America.
Speaker 25 (01:34:49):
Just Katie having faced pickings earlier in the season, was
there anything particular guys are trying to do really well
and just I kind of went into the home runs
thing rather than just the wind.
Speaker 20 (01:34:59):
Yeah, hopefully game plan just centered around being on time
and so just simply make it our swing simple enough.
Just get on time because she's gonna throw hard, and
that was my whole approach. She had played all three
of thats.
Speaker 1 (01:35:11):
We'll go second, or right to Jake, Katie, how does
it feel to be back in this position after getting
so close last year?
Speaker 3 (01:35:23):
Now with the chance to win that national championship?
Speaker 10 (01:35:26):
It it feels really good.
Speaker 20 (01:35:27):
This team, I just everyone, I love them so much,
and I just I love this for us, and we're
gonna keep playing for each other and start where we
left off.
Speaker 25 (01:35:35):
Okay, right, Brady again, Brady Brendan softo America, just her,
any of you, just every Saturday went. There's just a
lot of emotions and emotional highs and just how was
it to kind of stay focused on this game and
how much being in last year's World Series help with that?
Speaker 26 (01:35:53):
Yeah, I think we have a lot of experience. Our
whole team has a lot of experience, and so using that,
leaning on each other and bringing those I haven't been
here with us, but really just leaning on each other.
We can't go anywhere without every single one of us,
and so leaning in using what we learned last year,
because obviously we know what it feels like to not
end up on top, and so obviously kind of flushing
that but also using it.
Speaker 20 (01:36:13):
Yeah, what Tiegan said, just playing for something more than
ourselves and so not worrying about things that don't matter
other than playing for each other and playing for our goals.
Speaker 10 (01:36:21):
Yeah, I agree with them.
Speaker 23 (01:36:22):
It's just like we're focusing on ourselves and on each
other and like picking each other up when we need
it and then just going out there and competing as
a team.
Speaker 22 (01:36:28):
Okay, left Thomas Jones, Austin, American States. When Teagan and Mac,
when did you guys know Mike's plan for pitching today? Teagan,
how did you approach it mentally? You know, coming in relief?
And also for all three of you, you know, Oklahoma,
you know Tech. What's your thoughts on watching that game tonight.
Speaker 10 (01:36:48):
I think it's going to be a good game between them.
Speaker 23 (01:36:50):
I mean, they're both really good teams and it's going
to be an upight for them. But I think it's
going to be an exciting year for this World Series.
Speaker 26 (01:36:57):
Yeah, being coach, I told us this morning Mac was starting,
and then when he got to the field, it was
maxx gonna uh give give her all and then might
be handed off to me if we needed it. And
so just staying locked in. I think every single one
of our pictures needed to stay locked in because I
didn't know who was gonna necessarily end up with and
so Mac pitched her heart out two for us, and
she came up big, and so I'm really proud of her.
Speaker 10 (01:37:19):
Yeah.
Speaker 20 (01:37:19):
Just watching this game later, not being too worried about
who we want to win, and just being prepared for
whoever does win, and knowing their pitchers and sticking with
our game plans.
Speaker 10 (01:37:28):
Okay, we'll go second roll left?
Speaker 23 (01:37:30):
Uh.
Speaker 13 (01:37:31):
Tim Willard, Associated press coach, I wanted to ask you
about just players, right?
Speaker 2 (01:37:36):
Oh, just players right now?
Speaker 3 (01:37:39):
I kind of wait.
Speaker 10 (01:37:42):
Any more questions or players? Okay, good Jake again, second
r right.
Speaker 1 (01:37:51):
Yeah, you're either gonna play the four time defending national
champion or you know, potentially one of the most dominant
pitchers we've seen. What kind of challenge are you guys
going to have ahead looking to the championship series.
Speaker 2 (01:38:05):
I think them.
Speaker 26 (01:38:07):
I mean, we've played both of them already and so
obviously using what we learned from those games, but I
think it's more focused on us and what we can
do and not necessarily on them and focusing on our strengths.
Speaker 10 (01:38:18):
Yeah. I agree.
Speaker 23 (01:38:18):
I think our biggest challenge is focusing on ourselves in
this big three D three game series, and just you know,
relying on each other and what have you done all year?
Speaker 20 (01:38:27):
What they both said, we're a different team than we
were back in February when we last played Tech, and
so just sticking to what we're doing now and staying
how we are, just sticking with our game plans, I
think we'll be just fine.
Speaker 10 (01:38:39):
Any more questions for players? Okay, Row left.
Speaker 27 (01:38:45):
Core Hall with an Oxymen sentinel for both you know,
mac intigue and what was kind of going into your
mind this game facing the Tennessee offense that has really
improved out the tournament and performed pretty well here, Because
what was kind of top of your mind to try to,
you know, stop that.
Speaker 23 (01:39:00):
My mom was just go out there and compete and
try to do my job the best I can that day,
and I gave my everything and we both did pretty
well to you and went out there and shut the door.
And she really proud of her for how she competed
this season.
Speaker 26 (01:39:12):
Yeah, I was gonna say, I'm just competing obviously. When
I go up there with one run lead, I was
trying to just tell myself I don't have to be perfect,
because I think in that moment that's kind of what
you feel like you need to be, but just trusting
my defense. They came up big for me and so
it doesn't have to all be on my shoulders.
Speaker 10 (01:39:27):
Okay, to wrap things up, players, Thank you guys, it's nissing. Yes,
thank you.
Speaker 13 (01:39:39):
Questions for coach like, okay, we'll go back second round,
laugh again. Yeah at Tim Willard associated press coach. I
want to ask you what transpired with that hitting coach
from Tennessee and the fourth inning he came out looked
pretty heated. It looked like he was directing his comments
towards your dougout.
Speaker 2 (01:39:57):
Did you talk about what happened there?
Speaker 23 (01:40:00):
Come in on that.
Speaker 3 (01:40:00):
I don't really know what happened transpired.
Speaker 4 (01:40:02):
I think he was upset about the call by the
umpired home plate and it just kind of transpired about that.
But you know, the rule says that anytime an assistant
coach hits the field and questions something, that's an automatic ejection.
So I think that's what he was upset about. So
then he just decided maybe to take some stuff out
on us.
Speaker 10 (01:40:19):
Okay, front right, Brady Vernon South of America.
Speaker 25 (01:40:23):
Just Macca has had her ups and downs this year,
but what really instilled your confidence in her?
Speaker 10 (01:40:28):
To kind of go out today and do what she
really did.
Speaker 4 (01:40:31):
I think, as she mentioned, she's a senior and she
wants it, and she wants that redemption. And she's like
one of those kids that just let stuff flow off
of her. She's not going to dwell on what happened
in the past. And we talked about that everyone needs
to be where their feet are and be ready to
contribute to the team in the program. And it's always
team before me, and she's an epitome of that. Okay,
front rear left, Thomas runs ausesome American Saints. But Mike,
(01:40:54):
could this term have gone any better for you? Up
to this point, you've played the minimum number of games,
you have tea and a little rest. I mean, you
kind of pitching yourself about how good things are going
right now. I'll let you know in two days, three days,
so you know at the end of the week. I mean,
it's it's great. We were in the drug you know,
part of we were on one half of the bracket
with our lives in tech and obviously in the final
(01:41:15):
series best of three, that's what matters the most, and
and things have gone pretty well, but we also had
to play some really tough teams and come through some
squeakers and produce when we had to. Obviously, the today,
we knew it was going to be a pitcher's jewel.
Speaker 1 (01:41:28):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (01:41:28):
You know, Pickens is a warrior and she's thrown a
lot out there and uh, you know, she continued to
battle us till the end there and we knew we
had to. Fortunately, we had a great performance by Mac
morgan of course, Teak and Kaban and so things that.
Speaker 3 (01:41:42):
Work out the way we planned.
Speaker 4 (01:41:43):
And that's why I said, hats off to my coaching
stuff for you know, kind of one is we talked
about who we were going to start, and that was
the that was the plan, and it kind of worked out.
Speaker 2 (01:41:51):
So you know, but the.
Speaker 4 (01:41:53):
Playoffs can make you look good or make you look bad.
So but the players and it's looked good, Okay.
Speaker 25 (01:41:58):
All right, Brady Brady brendon South of America. Just Leanne
had that really good play in the seventh as well,
and you guys had made that change to bring her
back to short in the super regionals and just how
big is she really helped the defense kind of stabilize
in the postseason.
Speaker 3 (01:42:11):
Yeah, I think she's maturing as she's going going along.
Speaker 4 (01:42:14):
I mean, I don't know who at bat was a
little scary in the in the in the top of
the bottom of the six there and you go. But
we've talked about that, you got to let it release
and worry about the defense a part of the side
of things, and she showed that today. That was just
an amazing play at a big time for us, you know,
and the same with me on the left side as well.
So you know, I know people have questioned out defense sometimes,
(01:42:36):
but they kind of shone out today for sure.
Speaker 22 (01:42:39):
Gay her left Thomas Jones, Austo Mega states, did you
think Stewart's shot and the fourth or whatever it was
was going to go out? And then also tonight, how
do you watch the game, Like do you get together
with your assistance, like what's your plans for tonight?
Speaker 4 (01:42:54):
Yeah, I mean, obviously that ball was high in the
air and you just never know, you see, the wind
can carry it sometimes and you just saw drifting and
drifting and didn't really know until it went over the fence.
And fortunately it went overboy, you know, a few feet,
So we're very blessed there. Of course, tonight's game, I
hope it goes thirty two innings, so you know, then
battle it out, you know, maybe two games. I don't know,
(01:43:17):
but it's tough to say who's you know, who we
want to play. I mean, it's it's so we're just
fortunate to be where we're at. We're going to wry
about what happens when it happens. And obviously, you know,
Oklahoma is a four time defending champion, great team, well coached.
You know, they've got plenty of pitching left for sure,
and of course Najia Canada has proven she's the best
pitcher in the country right now with her zero point
eight one ERA. I mean, tough to score off. And
(01:43:39):
of course Tech is playing hot. They believe in themselves,
but so do we. So we're hopefully we're looking for
a really good matchup Campus stay front row left.
Speaker 27 (01:43:47):
At Cora Halt and Knox New Sentinel. Tennessee had scored
in the first INNA the last five games going into today.
Was what was kind of the key for you guys
and shutting that down early with Mac.
Speaker 4 (01:43:57):
Yeah, I mean, obviously they have been swinging the bats
pretty well, and you know, and they beat us two
out of three in Austin too, So we know when
when Pickens is on the mound, it's going to be
a low scoring game for sure. And so it really
was just throwing to our locations and using our defense,
and we're able to do that. But you know, you're
just hoping that you don't get too far behind when
you when that happens. But mac Morgan's up to the
(01:44:18):
task and just so proud of the way she battled
for us today against a really good hitting team.
Speaker 28 (01:44:24):
Any more questions, Okay, go front row right, Hey, coach
Lne Rolla with the Athletic do you think this is
some of Tigan's best softball of her career or have
you seen business as usual for her here in this
World series?
Speaker 3 (01:44:36):
You know, it's tough to say.
Speaker 4 (01:44:37):
I mean, she she was sout the season off really
hot and then went through a little bit of a patch.
I mean, we would talk about being a bit of
a roller coaster, but we kind of discussed it, and
she's real cerebral and wants to think about, you know,
the reasons for why things are not going well, and
we hit on a couple of things, and I think
she's really tightened things up a little bit, you know,
you know, allowing and knowing her break on her ball
for one's it and then using all he pitches and
(01:45:00):
Pettybis Taylor has been doing a great job for us
with the Pitchcolin as well. So I think these number
of things that go into well, not just one thing,
but it is Tea can combine as really, you know,
she could be dwelling on what could have been or
what wasn't and it is what it is. Right now,
we're in the finals of the College World Series.
Speaker 2 (01:45:20):
And there it is.
Speaker 7 (01:45:20):
There's the press conference from Oklahoma City. Mike White who
joined us last hour live and again. You can hear

Speaker 2 (01:45:31):
