Speaker 1 (00:00):
Third and final hour of the program here on sports
Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone. Greg Way, alongside the
producer Cameron Parker, were glad to be with you up
until five o'clock this afternoon and.
Speaker 2 (00:14):
Checking a couple other.
Speaker 1 (00:15):
The submissions on the text line, that's somebody you're talking
about me. When I was mentioned being at the Texas Jam,
they had it for several years here in the Connon Bowls.
Somebody said the Texas Jam was awesome, but always hot
as heck. I remember them spraying us down with fire hoses. Yeah,
(00:35):
they didn't do that here. I wish they had didn't
do that.
Speaker 2 (00:38):
That was very hot.
Speaker 1 (00:40):
CB says, I remember the days of the Bowl Coalition
and the Bowl Alliance.
Speaker 2 (00:45):
Yeah, you had that.
Speaker 1 (00:48):
Then somebody else said they need to do the Bulls
before the season starts to help to seeding across the
conferences and then have the playoffs after the season.
Speaker 2 (00:56):
That would be interesting.
Speaker 1 (00:57):
You had a Bowls before the season, but you know
a lot of teams aren't at their best and have
it totally you know, formed and so like a EVOL preseason.
Speaker 2 (01:09):
Yeah. Interesting, Yeah, I mean we kind of already do
that because some of.
Speaker 1 (01:12):
These games are sponsored, right, Yeah, yeah, you do have
some of that. Like you know, when Alabama played USC
at Jerry Old, wasn't that sponsored by Yeah, it was
something probably, Yeah, had had those there. Yeah, that's that's
one possibility there. Somebody else said that when we when
you came hit back with four playing Long Time by
(01:34):
Boston said, no doubt one of the best cut, the
best cut from one of the top five albums of
all time serious rock and roll. I certainly think it's
one of the top five debut albums of all time
that Boston, nineteen seventy six.
Speaker 2 (01:53):
Yeah, best debut rock albums.
Speaker 1 (01:56):
Okay, I think I think I think that would probably
that's good to be up there. Usually the ones that
had the self titled I think are great, like led Zeppelin.
By led Zeppelin, I.
Speaker 2 (02:09):
Think, Meet the Beatles.
Speaker 1 (02:10):
But well see, here's the thing about that's the trick
about that one the Beatles. That was their debut album
in the US, but they'd already been going in England
for a while. So depends on if you're just talking
about the debut in the US or not. Are you
experienced by the Jimi Hendrix experience. Okay, here's one that
I know Chad Hastings would like appetite for destruction, guns
and roses.
Speaker 2 (02:31):
So now this list does list Please Please Meet by
the Beatles. Yeah, that will see And that was in England,
The Police Please be LP.
Speaker 1 (02:39):
Van Halen by Van Halen, Black Sabbath by Black Sabbath,
The Doors by the Doors, Yeah, Clash by the Clash, Yeah,
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers by Yep, Tom Petty and
the Heartbreakers, Talking Head seventy seven by Talking Heads.
Speaker 2 (02:52):
Yeah, it was good. Ramones by the Ramones, Ye is
up there?
Speaker 1 (02:55):
Yeah, good stuff. Those are good ones, good debut albums.
So yeah, it's is that a rule, Craig, It's like, hey,
it's your first album, we want to know. It has
to be the name of your band, no exceptions in.
Speaker 2 (03:09):
The title somewhere.
Speaker 1 (03:10):
You know the Beatles when they did the White Album later,
I mean they've been around together for years.
Speaker 2 (03:13):
This is nineteen sixty eight.
Speaker 1 (03:15):
Everybody knows it's the White Album because it's just all
white and then just kind of embossed there on it
is simply entitled The Beatles.
Speaker 2 (03:23):
That was it.
Speaker 1 (03:24):
Everybody knows it's the White Album though. Interesting, so they
went back in refirst YEP because there was Trendsetters, because
that was the last album they recorded, right, No, last
one they recorded with abbey Road, which came after that. Okay,
that's right, because it was the one they last it
was recorded, it was the last one released. But the
last one they recorded was abbey Road. Yeah, nineteen sixty
nine and the white album was in sixty eight, so
(03:47):
it wasn't long after that. Aren't they working on a
movie on each Beatles spender? Is that by It's gonna
be a bio pick on Who's who's producing?
Speaker 2 (03:56):
Isn't that what's his name? Yeah, it's what's his name? Yeah,
that's the guy from the thing is doing that, right?
Speaker 1 (04:04):
Uh, it's not Peter Jackson who did the Sam Mendes. Yeah,
we did that one movie with James Bonded. It's killing me,
killing me, it's my favorite one.
Speaker 2 (04:17):
Really, Your skyfall goodness? Okay, all right? Love sky Into
the season.
Speaker 1 (04:26):
Of rye for Texas volleyball this afternoon as they fell
in four sets to Creighton in the regional semifinal in
the Sweet sixteen there in State College, Pennsylvania. This was
the comments of long wrn's head coach Jared Elliott after
the match.
Speaker 3 (04:42):
Well, congratulations of Creighton. Uh, they played extremely well. I
thought they put a lot of pressure on us from
the serving past game and uh, you know, they were
doing a great job defensively scrambling and putting up a
good block in front of us, and we were battling
all night long. I'm super proud of my team in
terms of the way they competed. Obviously it's not the
result that we want, but I'm okay sometimes losing the
(05:07):
when our kids give me everything they have, and they
did that throughout the entire season.
Speaker 4 (05:11):
Questions place, I don't know. Just taking care of our
first contact, having confidence and everything that we did and
(05:31):
just battling back and trusting one another I think was
the game changer. But yeah, I mean in crunch time
it's just do or die, and so we felt that
pressure but took u to our advantage.
Speaker 1 (05:41):
That was Madison's skinner there as a follow up to
Jared Elliott's opening statement, and of course Madison talking about
the first set that Creaton took it and kind of
set the tone for the match, and Texas not able
to completely rally back and win that one. So the
Long Orange Fall. The season ends at twenty wins, and
(06:02):
seven losses. Yes, nineteen consecutive trips to the Sweet sixteen,
but disappointment today and losing to the number two seed.
Texas was the three seed and they lost to the
number two seed there and creating and all probability will
play the one seed Penn State and the host there
in State College. Penn State has taken the first two
(06:24):
sets and they're up thirteen to twelve in the third set,
so probably.
Speaker 2 (06:29):
Going to win that match to move on from there.
Speaker 1 (06:33):
And like we said, disappointing there for Texas, but another
standout season for coach Elliott's group. The Texas women's basketball
team is on the road. They leave tomorrow for Richmond
and they'll play Richmond on Sunday. Did you see well,
(06:53):
I guess it would have been highlights because you and
I were together last night with the men's game.
Speaker 2 (06:56):
You see the highlights of that Notre Dame Yukon game.
I didn't. I didn't. You did not, pretty I did not,
But you know that's a good matchup.
Speaker 1 (07:03):
Well, Notre Dame in Yukon, they were very tight, and
then Notre Dame. I think Hannah Hidalgo hit a three
right before the end of the third quarter and then
Notre Dame just pulled away down the strategy one by eleven,
So I mean it was more, if you want to say,
whatever dominated or controlled by noted. Then the Notre Dame
(07:26):
Texas game that went overtime and went down to the
final seconds of regulation and then ended up going overtime.
But as it stood, it turned out that.
Speaker 2 (07:42):
That Notre Dame pulled away and they won. So Notre
Dames had an interesting season.
Speaker 1 (07:46):
They started off really red hot, beat number one South Carolina,
went down to the Cayman Islands, lost two games, lost
to TCU, and then lost another games, went unranked.
Speaker 2 (07:59):
Team fell from third to tenth Utah. It was Utah.
Speaker 1 (08:04):
Then after falling to ten, coming back home where they
beat Texas, and then they turn around and beat the
number two team and that was Yukon. And I think
they said they became the first team since the advent
(08:26):
of Poles ranking women's college basketball. They became the first
team to defeat three top five ranked schools in one
month in the month of December, since the first time
it's happened, So they've kind of they've beaten number one,
(08:48):
number what was Texas at the time, four, and number two.
They've beaten the number one, the number four, and the
number two team in the country. They're a good team. Yeah,
they're going to rise up the rankings, Craig. You know,
they went up from ten to eight after beating tex
right a lot. I think they moved up two spots
from ten to eight after beating Texas. Texas fell from
(09:11):
four to six after losing the Notre Dame, but stayed
ahead of them in the rankings. And then they turn
around and beat an unbeaten and number two ranked Ukon team.
So go figure rankings right anyway? All right, So that's
that's what's going on. Women's collegs basketball Longhorns will be
in action on Sunday afternoon in Richmond to take on
(09:34):
the Richmond Spiders.
Speaker 2 (09:35):
It's two o'clock. You can hear that on No.
Speaker 1 (09:37):
It's two o'clock times a game Sunday. You can hear
it on It's one Yeah, two Easterns one o'clock. You
can hear that on one oh three point one FM,
Austin's eighties station. Roger Wallace and Kathy Harston will have
the college at one o'clock on the game on Sunday.
(10:00):
I was thinking that it was uh no, eleven forty.
It's noon, okay, it's o'clock eastern. I got you, okay,
one o'clock, yeah, eastern. Okay, So it's at noon. And
then of course the long warm man in action at
two o'clock against Arkansas Pine Bluff. It's a one thirty
year time here on AM thirteen under the Zone. All Right,
we've got some other pro football notes to get to
(10:22):
coming up next when we continue here on this Friday
afternoon on sports Radio AM thirteen under the Zone and
the iHeartRadio app.
