Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hello, Wednesday, a yacht rock Wednesday here on Sports Radio
AM thirteen under the Zone. If Wednesday for you means
the traditional get over the hump day, Hopefully you're getting
over that hump just fine and getting ready for the down,
He'll run to the weekend. If Wednesday begins your work week,
hope it's off to good start. And if it's at
the end of your work week, good on you, Good
for you, and good for you. And hopefully you're ready
(00:22):
for your next couple of days off if you get
those off, Welcome to the program here on Sports Radio
AM thirteen under the Zone. My name is Craig Way,
and glad to have you with us. US, of course,
includes the producer Jay Carman, who's been very busy of late.
You see, Jake is the newly minted play by play
voice of the Bass Drop Bears. So you're getting ready
(00:43):
for your first broadcast as the voice of the Bears
on Friday night, right, Yeah.
Speaker 2 (00:48):
They'll play the number one ranked team in taps at
the moment, Preston Wood Christian in Plano. So it should
be an exciting start to my slate with the Bears.
Speaker 1 (00:57):
Yeah yeah, Preston with Christian academies, and of course one
of the long worn baseball legends played at Preston Wood
Christian Academy, and that was Cameron Rupp who hit the
big home run in two thousand and nine to tie
the score in the bottom of the ninth in that
College World Series game against Arizona State and then Connor
(01:18):
Roh Georgetown Zone followed up with a Soloholmers. Texas won
that on the walk off to get to the National
Championship Series that year. But Cameron Rupp played, he played
at Preston and Preston With Christian Academy one of the
better private producer. Oh what a better private school producers
of football talent and all sports talent for that matter.
(01:41):
All right, first things first, to let you know, we
have just basically a two hour edition of the program today,
maybe just just a smidge over two hours. The reason
for that is we have Round Rocket Express Baseball coming
for you at four fifteen this afternoon program truncated, but
(02:04):
not without good stuff. There's a lot to get to
on the program. Let me start with baseball. In case
you haven't noticed, things are getting pretty crazy in some
of these division races, namely the American League West and
the Nation League West. Now, the Nation League West has
been tight for a while and the Dodgers hold a
two game lead on the Patters after LA One and
(02:26):
San Diego lost last night. But it's been close for
several weeks and it's going to continue to be close,
and it's probably going to go to the wire as close.
But things have gotten really tight in the American League West,
where the Astros losing last night to the Blue Jays,
the Rangers beating the Brewiser of the best record in
(02:47):
all of baseball, and with the Mariners winning of the Cardinals.
Going into today, the Rangers are trailing the Astros. Di
Astros still have the lead in the American League West
by one game on Seattle and two and a half
on the Rangers. In the wild card standings, the Mariners
(03:12):
still hold down the third wildcard spot, but the Rangers
are only a game and a half off of that
pace and Cleveland just two and a half off of that,
so things are pretty crazy there. National League wildcards get
pretty nuts too. The Cubs and Padres are in pretty
good shape there, and like we said, the Padres would
have an opportunity to win the division, and it may
(03:38):
put the Dodgers there in the wildcard spot if it
winds up. If it winds up doing that, so one
of those teams probably gets the wildcard, and maybe it's
the number two wildcard spots back of the Cubs. Who knows.
The Mets, Giants, and Reds all of a sudden are
in the thick of the fight. The Giants have won
(03:58):
twelve of their last fifteen games. They have a huge
series against Los Angeles this weekend coming up. On Friday,
when we have our weekly visit with Geene Watson from
the Chicago White Sox front office, Will will get his
update on that. So anyway, things are getting pretty clear.
Even the Diamondbacks and Cardinals are only four and a
half back in the National League wildcard scene, and the
Royals are four back and the Rays four and a
(04:20):
half back in the American League wildcard pictures. So yeah,
it's still is the only teams that have been eliminated
from even being in the postseason. The White Sox in
the American League wo are fifty five to ninety and
the Rockies in the Nationale who are forty and one
to five. They have lost the most games in franchise
history and the Rangers as we speak right now, are
(04:43):
trying to draw even a little closer. They're up, well,
actually they're trailing, but they have pulled them within a
run of the Brewers Milwaukee with a two to one
lead in the bottom of the second Jake Berger is
just hit his fifteenth home run of the season, so
it's two to one. Brewers lead the Rangers in that game.
Global Life in Arlington, we'll keep you updated on that
(05:03):
as well. So that's one thing to get to football.
To get to we'll hear from longrn's head coach Steve
Sarkisian coming up next hour from the SEC Coaches teleconference.
And it's interesting because sark in his regular press conference
(05:24):
on Monday, which we bring to you live every week
every Monday morning at eleven thirty here on the on
the Zone, was asked about that transfer portal legislation that
looks like it's going to go through with this proposal
to change the transfer portal window to just one window,
a ten day window, starting it be January tewod of
(05:47):
this coming year, twenty twenty six, for a ten day
period immediately following the quarterfinals of the college football Playoff,
and sark is all in favor of In fact, the
SEC coaches is a body, are all in favor of it.
Ryan Day, the head coach in Ohio State, is against it.
(06:07):
Spoke out about the difficulty of assembling a roster for
the next year while still competing in the playoff. That's
the crux of the deal because he's expecting to be
in the playoff. Well, so were several of the teams
in the SEC. And Texas is the only school, the
only program in the country that's been in the semifinals
(06:29):
the last two years of the playoff, the fourteen playoff
two years ago and then last year of course getting
in through the twelve team playoff and playing their way
with a couple of wins, one over Clemson and then
in the Peach Bowl beating Arizona State to get into
the semifinals. But you might remember Steve Sarkishan called those
(06:49):
the challenges for the four teams that are semifinalists as
Champagne problems. Champagne problems. Now there's an interesting quote. We're
going to try to see we can get a hold
of it. Lets you hear from Brian Kelly, the LSU
head coach. But we'll bring you sarks regular sec tolet
conference audio coming up next hour. We'll do that. Also
(07:14):
today we're gonna hear from one of the long orats.
Of course, our colleague, our man on the sidelines, Will Matthews,
each week takes the time and the opportunity to sit
down and visit with some long warned players, and we're
gonna hear from a couple of those players on Friday.
We'll hear on Friday from Parker Livingston, and we'll hear
(07:35):
from Ethan Burke on Friday. But today you're gonna hear
from the long WRNS kicker Mason Chipley, who kicked his
first field goals a long worn of forty seven yarder
last Saturday in the win over San Jose State. Mason's
story is a little bit interesting as well, so we'll
get to that coming up in the next segment. But
as always, we opened up the text line for your questions,
(07:58):
your comments, your thoughts. All you have to do is
text the word Texas follow by your question or comment
to eight one five three zero. So you text the
word Texas and it can be all caps or just
capital T and then small case lettering e xas. But
you text the word Texas, follow by your question or
comment to eight one five three zero. Standard messaging and
(08:21):
data rates may apply. Also. The other way you can
reach us, and this is the way you've got to
reach us if you want to win tickets to things
or other prizes when we have giveaways is our talk
back feature. And the way you do that is and
it's real easy. If you haven't already, you can download
the free iHeartRadio app. It's really easy to do. It's free.
You can listen to us wherever you are simply by
(08:42):
downloading that iHeart Radio app. You download the app and
you do at in the little search magnifying glass. You
search AM thirteen hundred zone and when it comes up,
and it will, it'll pop right up. When it does,
we suggest make it a preset for you because if
you do a preset that way, you can kind of
circumvent some of the slower entrants. They're into trying to
(09:05):
win tickets to something. But make it a preset, and
then when it pops up. When AM thirteen under the
zone pops up, you'll see two buttons. One's a little
white triangular arrow shape button that's to listen to us
anytime or you know whatever, its games and other shows
that are on this station. The other button is a
(09:25):
little red button with a white microphone. That's the talkback button.
You hit that button, you can leave us a message
of up to thirty seconds. So you can do that,
I mean, just to comment on things. If you want
to say, yeah, I'm in favor of the transfer portal,
Ryan Day doesn't know what he's talking about, blah blah blah.
You can do that. You can leave us a voice
message and we will play it back on the air.
(09:46):
Keep it clean. It is a family program, but that's
also what you have to do if you want to win.
You know, prices, which would in this case be concert tickets,
and so we're going to have some tickets we're gonna
give away next hour as well. So I hope you
got all that all right. Coming up, we'll get to
(10:08):
several different topics, including hearing from long Orange kicker Mason Chipley.
That's coming up as well, and we've got some other
football notes to get to here on a Wednesday afternoon,
a yacht Rock Wednesday right here on Sports Radio AM
thirteen under the Zone and where you can always listen
to us for free on the IR Radio app glad
to have you with us on the I tell you
(10:29):
what we can go for is some college football conversation
Max Olson. It is a great job writing for ESPN,
and we've known Max a long time. Wrote a piece
today and this is on the heels of two things.
One a major bit of legislation that's going to go
through from the NCAA, at least we think we will.
(10:52):
And two the follow up react to it from this
morning's SEC coaches teleconference, which you'll hear next hour longrn's
head coach Steve Sarkisian his participation in that teleconference. Now,
this has to do and we talked about this yesterday,
about this proposal to move the college football transfer portal
(11:18):
window from December to January. And under this measure, which
the FBS Football Bowl Subdivision Oversight Committee voted last week
to move the portal window to January second through the
eleventh of twenty twenty sixth next January, that would give
(11:41):
FBS graduate and underclassmen players ten days to decide if
they would enter their names into the transfer portal, and
it would eliminate the April transfer window. And that seems
to be the biggest talking point ground this Now, this
reform still needs to be approved by the Division one
(12:06):
Administrative Committee, with a vote expected to occur before October first,
Walmart said. Coach Steve Sarkisian made his feelings on this
well known on Monday when he said, because you know,
and the reason why we brought it up yesterday is
(12:27):
because Ryan Day of Ohio status against this measure. Now,
the January second to January eleventh window falls right after
the quarterfinals of the college football Playoff, so there would
be schools who are still playing college football, who are
(12:52):
still in their season, who would have to deal with
this while still preparing for games. But if we're being
completely transparent about this, we're only talking about four teams,
and we're only talking about two games, the two semi finals.
We're not even talking about the national championshipcause the window
would already have closed. So it's just two games that
(13:16):
would be affected, just four teams, the four semifinalists, and
as we mentioned, Texas is the only one only team
at school in the country to go to the playoff
two years a row, back to back, and sarks in
favor of the deal because of his down the road.
(13:37):
Look at how it affects roster construction and in that
spring portal window. That's a big reason, not the only reason,
but a big reason why there was no spring football game.
Speaker 2 (13:51):
This year because you don't know what you're going to have.
You don't want to get poached either.
Speaker 1 (13:55):
Yes, exactly, you don't know what you have, even if
you have guys on your roster currently and you put
him on the field and then they wind up getting poached.
So he's all for it. Ryan Day was not for it.
He said that he thought it was that it was
(14:15):
that that it wouldn't make sense for them, and he
was He said he was not a fan. He's he
was concerned about the difficulty of assembling a roster for
the next year while still competing in the playoff. Georgia
ED coach Kirby Smart did acknowledge that roster management could
be could be nightmarish for the last four teams still
(14:38):
competing for the national championship, but he agreed that moving
transfer recruiting to January is the best option and said
several Big Ten coaches agree with him. So, in other words,
it sounds like Ryan D's kind of out there on
an island a little bit. We know how start feels
about it with what he said when he said the
(15:00):
those are Champagne problems, meaning the four teams that are
still in the semifinals. That means you've got a pretty
good team, you're in the semifinals. But I think for
the betterment of the sport, that's the right window for
the players to have a chance to go in and
decide where they want to go so they can roll
in their next institution for spring and be there for
spring ball and then into the summer. It's fair for
the school so they can build their rosters predicated on
(15:23):
who leaves and what they're trying to do. Like I said,
if you're one of the four, you figure it out.
We've all hired big enough personnel departments. I mean, that's
very plane spoken philosophy from Sark about that saying it
Champagne problems. If you need any more plane spoken philosophy,
(15:44):
take a listen to this. Here's the question, the same
question that was put to Brian Kelly, the LSU coach,
on the day's SEC teleconference. Yeah, coach, off.
Speaker 3 (15:54):
Game topic here, but you saw where the oversight committees
approved the portal being from January second to the twelfth,
that's a change and of something Greg Sinkie talked about
at the SEC Media days recent headline is that all
is that the Ohio State coach Ryan Days is against
this and says a lot of the Big ten coaches
agree with them. I guess I'm wondering why the Big
(16:17):
ten would disagree with them, and what you think about
the approval of that new portal window.
Speaker 4 (16:23):
We're in support of the new portal window to a
man in the SEC, and I've talked to many that
believe across the country this is the progress that we
need to make.
Speaker 1 (16:37):
I want to get my roster set now.
Speaker 4 (16:41):
I know there's probably twelve or sixteen teams that might
be in the playoffs at that time.
Speaker 1 (16:46):
I'm sorry there's no crying on the yacht.
Speaker 4 (16:48):
I mean, we got to get this thing set and
it's best position at this time to allow us to
set our rosters moving forward.
Speaker 1 (17:00):
So there it is. I'm sorry, there's no crying on
the yacht. Nor is there crying on a yacht. Rock Wednesday, Damn, Skippy,
You're exactly right. There's pretty blunt there for pretty blunts.
It's funny hearing him say that, I'm sorry, there's no
crying on the yacht that goes with the Champagne problems shirt. Yeah,
(17:24):
I like it. I like it all right, tell you
another story. I like Mason Shipley the new Loghorns placekicker.
Interesting story. Here's a guy from Liberty Hill. Was it
really highly recruited? Had some as a as he said
Monday in the press conference, p w O opportunities, preferred
walk on opportunities, but he had a shot to go
(17:47):
to Texas State. He has a twin brother who kicked
at Hawaii and was happy for him even when he
didn't have an opportunity early. And now he's a Loghorn
and he's excited about it. And he sat down with
Will Matthews, our sideline reporter on the Long Run Radio
Network from lear Field with a conversation with Mason Chipley, What.
Speaker 5 (18:06):
If you think about the first two games? Has everything
been for you?
Speaker 6 (18:10):
First games are awesome?
Speaker 7 (18:11):
I mean the environment, especially in the first game, I
was crazy, nothing like I've experienced.
Speaker 6 (18:16):
But I know it's really cool environment atmosphere.
Speaker 5 (18:19):
I mean it's awesome, like being a fan of that
kind of thing. How was it going into the horseshop
outside of the you know, the result at the end.
Speaker 8 (18:28):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (18:28):
Yeah, it's an unbelievable atmosphere just going there.
Speaker 7 (18:32):
I mean it felt really cool just being able to
get on the field and just look at everybody and
see all like cool faces.
Speaker 6 (18:37):
But I mean, you know they were there for job.
Speaker 7 (18:41):
So unfortunately think at the outcome wanted, but hopefully we
get it again.
Speaker 5 (18:48):
As you continue to embed yourself inside of this Longhorn community,
have you started to connect.
Speaker 1 (18:54):
Well with a lot of the guys. It's a really
good group of guys.
Speaker 7 (18:58):
Yeah, I know, I see so many like alumni and
what I'll just like walking everywhere and I'll try to
meet as many people as i can, right because I mean,
you never know, it can help you out layer down
in the road.
Speaker 6 (19:08):
And so yeah, it's pretty cool.
Speaker 7 (19:10):
I mean it's crazy that I've seen everybody in Austin,
like this whole area and it's just the ut.
Speaker 6 (19:14):
It's it's crazy, but it's really cool.
Speaker 5 (19:17):
So moving forward into Game three one and one and
stepping up the intensity, what can we expect from you
and the special teams this week?
Speaker 8 (19:27):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (19:27):
So special teams, I mean, we just strive for perfection
and excellence.
Speaker 9 (19:32):
That's what we do.
Speaker 7 (19:34):
And and coach back said something really good to us
actually the other day, like the push for perfection, Like
it's exhausting, right, but in the end, it's worth it.
So I think that's just you know, we're held to
a standard to be the best that we can be, right,
So I think from specialist aspects, you just expect us
to be the best that we can be, right, whether
(19:55):
that's making every kick or pending every punt inside.
Speaker 6 (19:58):
The twenty, whatever it may be, we're and do the
best we.
Speaker 8 (20:00):
Can to do that.
Speaker 5 (20:02):
And when you say perfection, and you know it's pretty
difficult to get to that, you know it's hard to
get there.
Speaker 1 (20:07):
But for you, what does that look like?
Speaker 5 (20:10):
Is it your process throughout the week or is it
just the game day experience?
Speaker 7 (20:14):
I think it's everything in like in everyday life, how
you do anything, so how you do everything?
Speaker 6 (20:18):
I mean you hear that a lot.
Speaker 7 (20:19):
And then a big, a big one that my pass
coach actually had was like, your habits reflect a mission, right,
So whatever that mission is, your habits better reflected or
I mean your mission s product be very good. So
I think, especially like my habits at home, right, what
am I doing away from football?
Speaker 6 (20:36):
Are those reflecting?
Speaker 7 (20:38):
Like what the on the field experience is right, So
I think just holding myself to that standard is really
big for me.
Speaker 5 (20:46):
First game in d k R last week. Talk to
me about the experience and the atmosphere there.
Speaker 6 (20:52):
Yeah, it's really cool, especially like the Beva walk and
just seeing everybody. It's super cool.
Speaker 7 (20:57):
It's a lot different for me than being a text state,
but it's really humbling, like and I'm super blessed to
be in this position, right, So it's a super cool
opportunity that I feel like not many people get in
a lot of people want to be in my shoes, right,
So I think just think about that every day, like
makes me super grateful, Like how many people want to
(21:17):
do what I do?
Speaker 2 (21:18):
Right?
Speaker 6 (21:18):
Like how blessed am I to be able to do this?
Speaker 5 (21:22):
Mason, thank you so much for your time and good
luck this week.
Speaker 1 (21:25):
Appreciate it. Yeah all right, Yeah, Mason Chipley one of
the three old married men, so to speak, on the
team the Long Horns deep snapper Lan Saint Louis married
NN Long Orange punter Jack Bowmeister twenty six years of age.
Is that old now, Craig Well, They his teammates say
(21:46):
that maybe old for a college football player, Yeah, yeah, right,
and Mason Chipley married as well. So interesting they're in
all veterans and the coaching staff. We had Jeff Banks
on the show last week and he talked about how
key it was to have those kinds of guys, to
have veterans, their seniors long in the tooth and football
(22:09):
and have their input, their experience and their skill set.
They're kicking for them and holding and snapping, and you know,
Bomeaster holds on the placements, and of course Lancet Louis
snaps both on the short snaps and the long snaps.
And then Shipley, a kicker who kicked a sixty yarder
(22:29):
when he was at Texas State, had a forty seven
yard pretty effortlessly. Last week. On the text line, our
man Chuck and Houston says, when will Craig Waiting Company
hook me up on long one football tickets? I'll wait
and might be a wait there that we get them
(22:50):
to give away. We do, I'll let you know, certainly.
And then somebody else said, who doesn't know Hall of Notes?
The answer Jay.
Speaker 10 (22:56):
Carmon, Hey, I know a few songs you rich girl. Okay, yep,
that was a big hit and make my dreams come true. Okay, yep, yep, yep.
Sarah Smile is one. And then my all time favorite
is She's Gone, which is we.
Speaker 11 (23:14):
Might have heard that last week on Yeat Rocket.
Speaker 1 (23:16):
We could have, we could have. That's that's a great
one there. All right, up next we will bring you
today's inconceivable. Hey, want to update you Rangers and Brewers.
Right now, bottom of the third inning at Globe Life Field,
and Jack Peterson has just hit Nope, not into a
(23:37):
double play. It was a fourth at second. It got
to run home. So the game is tie off. Freddie
Peralta is over. Yeah, Yeah, he's given up two runs.
It's a two to two ball game with a Ranger
still batting with runners on the corners and two outs
in the bottom of the thirty and the bases were
loaded and Peterson hit a sharp smash to deep the
(23:58):
hole at second. They got the runner going from first
to second, but could not double off Peterson, who looks
as though he's running with while he's carrying a piano
on his back, but he still was able to beat
the relay throat at first. Jock's put on a little
bit of weight since he's matriculated to Arlington.
Speaker 11 (24:16):
Yeah, put on some muscle when he was when.
Speaker 1 (24:18):
He was playing for the Dodgers, and then even the
Braves and the Cubs and the Giants, he didn't look
as corpulent as he looks now.
Speaker 11 (24:30):
He's perhaps trying to fill the power void, I.
Speaker 1 (24:33):
Guess, but then you know, he looks thin by comparison
to Jake Berder, the guy at the plate who hit
a home run to get them on the board.
Speaker 11 (24:40):
So how how about Helman out there in center?
Speaker 1 (24:43):
Yeah? Yeah, so, uh so that's where it is right now.
So anyway, and uh, did we just have a balk?
I think Freddy Pearlt has been called for a balk.
He has Rangers take the lead three to two. There's
a balk called on that Alta. Let's see if I
can tell you, yep, sure did he was. He was
(25:04):
kind of moving, moving the hand a little bit. He
kind of wiggled, so he just balked in the go
ahead run for Texas. Uh, looks like Jake Berger is
going to fly out in the inning. He has, but
they're through three innings and now Texas with a three
to two lead on Milwaukee. We'll keep you posting on
that up next inconceivable. Here. I'm thirteen under the Zone.
Second hour of the program here on sports Radio AM
(25:26):
thirteen hunderd the Zone. Craig Wade, joined by the producer
Jay Carman, glad to have you with us as well.
You can avail yourselves of our text line simply by
texting the word texas follow by your question or comment
to eight one five three zero. So just text the
word texas follow by your question or comment to eight
one five three zero. Somebody told me that who has
(25:50):
texted us uh in the past. They said, what I
did was I had trouble remembering the eight one five
three zero, even though you say it all the time.
So what I just did was when I texted eight
one five three zero, changed the heading on it to
zone text line. He said that way, all I had
to just put up pull up was zone text line,
and that was eight one five three zero.
Speaker 2 (26:08):
There you go, as long as you remember start that
message with texas. Yeah, but don't end it after texas.
Put your message in the same message.
Speaker 1 (26:14):
There's some people that do that sometimes. Have you noticed
that they do texas?
Speaker 2 (26:17):
And then that's why I brought it up, because you
always see on that case is Texas.
Speaker 1 (26:22):
I think what it is is that they either changed
their mind or go south on them when they start
to chain and then they and they were like aah,
I gonna.
Speaker 11 (26:29):
Say, yeah, you know, that's all right. You can always
come back to it. Save that contact on the.
Speaker 1 (26:36):
Text liner man CB said, when I was talking about
those Dorito's chips that have been discontinued permanently, he said,
so you know you can buy barbecue chip dust. They
sell it like a spice.
Speaker 8 (26:52):
You buy the.
Speaker 1 (26:53):
Third to barbecue chip dust.
Speaker 2 (26:55):
Sounds like I can marinate some chicken in that. Yeah, yeah,
a little healthier option.
Speaker 1 (27:00):
And then CB asking what were my memories of twenty
years ago tonight when the Long Runs beat Ohio State
in Columbus. You know it's weird, CB, because we've now
had a game in Columbus since then that came across
the calendar, and we know which we know what that
one was back some eleven days ago when Texas lost
(27:26):
at Ohio State fourteen to seven. But with respect to
your question, what do I remember about it? I remember
a really festive atmosphere. I also remember there was a
let's say, there was an expectation of success by the
(27:49):
Ohio State faithful who had not seen Texas before. Remember
it was the first time they played, so it was like, yeah,
but they're coming into the Horseshoe and Dwayne and Keena.
When he was on with a couple of weeks ago
along on Weekly, he talked about when he saw the
Ohio State players like James Lernidis and aj Hawk and
some of those other guys walking in and they saw
(28:10):
Vin Chung for the first time in person and they're like,
that's him. He was like six' five and two fifty
at the time and they're, like, wow.
Speaker 11 (28:22):
Familiar with your? Game, yeah.
Speaker 1 (28:24):
Exactly and it was it was very LIKE i, said
it was kind of festive and electric type of evening
and obviously it ended wonderfully For, texas not For Ohiers.
Dane THAT i, heard And i'm sure, many, many many
many people heard the same. Thing you heard mixed stories
about how fans were treated once they left the, stadium, good, bad.
(28:48):
Whatever we didn't have any. Problem we left us. Wrong
we had to walk through a lot of people and
stuff when we were wearing coach and ties AND i
had like a bird orange tie on at the time
and stuff like. THAT i had no problems BUT i
know some people personally who did encounter some, difficulty AND
i know a lot of people who did, Not and
it was a night, game AND i think that had
something to do with it as. Well this time there
(29:13):
were no such. DIFFICULTIES i didn't hear one person report
encountering any bad experience or trouble from fans or. Whatever in,
fact walking to the, car and it Was Roger wallace
and myself And Will, matthews and we were walking to our,
car and we passed several groups of people and the
(29:34):
comments were usually you all got a good, team good.
Game it was a lot of that. Stuff so and you,
know maybe some of that Had in, fact they won the.
Game they didn't lose the game like they did twenty years.
Ago but most of the time When i'm on the,
road When texas plays on the road and they win
and under, start that's been a good measure of the.
(29:55):
Time they had that what was an eleven game road
winning streak snap with the lost To Ohio. State folks
are pretty. FRIENDLY i remember in Ann arbor last, year
folks were very friendly walking out of the car after the.
Speaker 2 (30:08):
Game was that The National Championship honeymoon both last year
For michigan and now this year For Ohio.
Speaker 1 (30:14):
State, yeah, maybe and maybe the folks In michigan kind
of knew what might be in store for them With harball,
gone and there were different things that were going on,
there so maybe there were some of. THAT i will also,
SAY i, MEAN i, KNOW i know what you're gonna.
Say It's. Vanderbilt the one road environment where fans Treated
(30:39):
TEXAS i saw very nicely was In nashville The vanderbilt,
game and even In arkansas it was less vitriolic than
it had been in the. Past last YEAR i remember
it was pretty rough and twenty twenty one sarks first
Year Roger, WALLISON i still laugh about. This we were
(31:02):
looking for the media entrance and it was about three
hours before Kick we like to get, in certainly three
three and a, half sometimes four hours, before and so
we were going to go, in uh three hours, before
and we couldn't find the right gate to go, in
and people meanwhile we're lying up to go. Inside and
then a guy saw us trying to figure out where to,
(31:24):
enter and he, said are y'all? Looking y'all looking, again
and said you have looking for the media Interest and
guy Said, okay he, goes it's just two gates down right,
there AND i, said, okay, thanks he, goes but you
should have gone back to times.
Speaker 11 (31:36):
Us he just yelled that ass that's like call an, ambulance.
Speaker 8 (31:40):
But not for.
Speaker 9 (31:40):
Me.
Speaker 1 (31:41):
Yeah so we started laughing and we went on. In,
uh we'd, still we'd still doesn't compare to. Four when
walking up the hill with my, Son andy was my, spotter,
uh and it was the first year he was spotting
for me, TOO i think first full. Season and we're walking.
Up you have to walk up this hill to go
toward behind the west side grand stand in the press
(32:05):
box to get to the press box enter entry entrance
At DONALD. W Reynold's Razorback. Stadium so we're walking up
this hill and as we start walking up this drive
to the, hill there are people standing above, us up
on a hill adorned in all manner of hog, attire you,
(32:26):
know red, stuff and they got the hogs all over them.
Stuff And i'm looking at, them And i'm walking up
and they're looking at. Me and all of a, sudden
And i'm wearing a suit and AGAIN i THINK i
had a burn orange, tile BUT i was wearing a
suit and all of a, SUDDEN i see something being
hurled at, me AND i stopped in my tracks and
(32:48):
lands splat right in front of. Me h perminicicee. Sandwich
oh my, gosh somebody threw a permenachee sandwich at. Me,
Yeah i've told that story. Before you have perminic chee,
Sandwich but it was a waste of a perfectly good
permitted cheese. SANDWICH i like the. Minocheese if he just
offered it to, ME i would have taken off his hands.
Anyway all. Right so that's WHAT i kind of REMEMBER
(33:11):
cb with regard to that twenty years. Ago but WHAT
i was sorting to say is most of the places
where gone people were actually pretty Even College Station i'll
say that Even College station people were pretty. NICE i
think there was a great deal of excitement last year
about The rivalry being. Restored they called it the restoration
(33:33):
of The, rivalry which seemed only natural since the title
sponsor of it As Cotton, holdings which is a restoration,
company like after you have like you, know natural weather
disaster stuff and the water damage or. Whatever that's What
Cotton holdings. Does so, yeah it's The Cotton Holdings Lone
Star showdown Or Loanstar Cotton Holdings Lone Star showdown.
Speaker 2 (33:58):
Series an argument about this for The Red river game
on the on The Longhorns Game, day.
Speaker 1 (34:04):
The we WE wivali, uh the The elmer fudd web
we wival we We UH i can actually Say Red
river rivalry without much. Difficulty, WELL i hope, so but,
uh you, know and then it got The Red River
showdown for a because they wanted to get away from.
Shootout that's that's that's been the, thing you. Know, Uh
missouri And, kansas it was called The Border war forever
(34:27):
and now it's The Border battle Or Border showdown or
whatever it.
Speaker 2 (34:30):
Is, well and then you got The Civil war quote
unquote In. Oregon but now they're not even in the same, conference,
right exact.
Speaker 1 (34:36):
Same thing With kansas And, missouri With missouri being in THE,
sec and so they did as a non conference.
Speaker 11 (34:41):
Game we can't all be The Apple.
Speaker 1 (34:42):
Cup, uh that's. Right, uh you, Know and you got
all those all those series in The Big, ten The
Old Oaken bucket and The keg Of nails and The
Little Brown jug and The Golden, boot The golden all
of those At Paul bunyan's. Act she got all all
that stuff in all of those rivalry games that go
(35:04):
on in that one updating baseball for. You they're in
the bottom of the fifth inning In. Arlington rangers lead
The brewers three to. Two. Again The rangers enter today
only a game and a half out of the final
wildcard spot in The American league and only two and
a half back of The astros for first place in
The American League. West they're a game and a half
back Of, seattle so they're still in third. Place but
(35:28):
by the, Way Jake berger is just homeward for a
second time. Today he just hit a two run shot
and now it's five to Two texas Double patty as
A bay ideas his sixteenth homer and his forty eighth
and forty ninth RBIs of the season of four hundred
and twenty foot blast that had an exit velo of
one hundred and twelve miles per. HOUR i mean that
(35:50):
got out of here in a. Hurry they're In. Arlington
so The rangers making this late season.
Speaker 11 (35:55):
Push, yeah The guardians though not going, away they're hanging.
Speaker 1 (35:59):
Out they're just off their. Shoulder and then you got The,
mariners and, then LIKE i, said The astros are two
and a half. Backs so it's gonna be so be
fun to watch these races down with. Stretch in, fact
let me ask you, Something, james when you were a,
kid maybe you still. DO i doubt it. Though when
you're a, kid did you play the, game the kids
game Candy? Land oh, yeah the board. Game it's been
(36:21):
a long.
Speaker 8 (36:21):
Time.
Speaker 1 (36:21):
Yeah. Well Anthony castrovins FOR Mlb baseball has compared the
Wild card And national And American league races to a
game of Candy. Land, okay now they recognize the path
and all the different, colors.
Speaker 10 (36:37):
And, yeah you've got the teams as little. Spaces, yeah
and they're trying to hop over one another and all
that other kind of.
Speaker 1 (36:42):
Stuff that's how tight it is right now in both
The National league and The American league, races The wildcard races, especially,
yeah but also the division, races specifically in The Nation
League west and The American League. West although The brewers had,
win excuse, me The Blue jay said to win last
night to maintain a three game edge on The yankees
(37:04):
And Red.
Speaker 11 (37:04):
Sox you watched The yankees last.
Speaker 1 (37:06):
NIGHT i saw the. Highlights oh, boy, yeah, YEAH i
saw what The tigers did to. Him last.
Speaker 11 (37:11):
Night, YEAH i mean The astros let that one get.
Speaker 1 (37:13):
Away they, Did so that's why this is going to
be really interesting to watch down the stretch of the,
season these these these postseason, races and this is why
they put the added first the wildcard in the, nineties
coming off the strike and it was a highly unpopular
move with purists at the. TIME i can still Hear
(37:38):
Bob costas being the old man shaking his fist at
the cloud on this, deal and he continued to. Maintain
they still maintain that just because you get in as
the wildcard does not mean you're the best team in.
Baseball if you wind up winning The World. Series, well actually,
no if you, win you're the best team in. Baseball
The Texas rangers are the twenty twenty Three world, champions
(37:59):
and they were a wildcard. Team The Florida marlins were
two thousand and Three world champions and they were a wildcar.
Team Gene watson worked for The marlins as a scout
at that, time and he tells that story about how
they hit a big slump In september and then had
to rally again to get into the playoffs and.
Speaker 2 (38:14):
Went don't forget my twenty Nineteen Washington nationals the favorite
baseball Team i've ever, followed AND i never.
Speaker 11 (38:22):
Sorry To astros fans.
Speaker 1 (38:23):
Another, yeah, Listen i'm gonna here to tell you as
A dodger fan still stinging from you, know they had
them for what happened in. Seventeen they had. THEM i
never rooted for another, team one team against another, team
neither team being my. TEAM i never rooted for one
team to beat another team as much AS i did
(38:45):
for The nationals to beat The.
Speaker 2 (38:46):
Astors even after The nationals got the two homers off
Of kershaw save the.
Speaker 1 (38:52):
Season, yeah, yeah, Exactly and SO i went ahead and
WHEN i had and rooted for them the rest of the.
Way Bob, carpenter by the, way who's.
Speaker 2 (38:59):
Retiring they're honoring him this weekend in the booth putting
his name.
Speaker 1 (39:03):
Below great. Guy. UH i got to know him years.
Ago and, uh of course he you, know had hailed
From oklahoma and worked In oklahoma's nsaid stuff when he
was doing The, rangers and he did The rangers for
many years ON tv back in the eighties into the.
Nineties nice, man really nice, man and an outstanding broadcaster as.
Well So i'm glad For, uh For Bob, Carpenter i'll miss. Him, yeah, yeah.
(39:24):
Absolutely so WHAT i started to say Is i've moved beyond.
That people have heard me say. THIS i got over.
THAT i got over it WAS i, disappointed, yes that
it didn't Have but The dodgers won Two World series,
since So i've been able to move on and and
and even to WHERE i don't, have you, know all
(39:44):
of this antipathy towards The astros. ANYMORE i used. TO
i did for a, while wanted them to lose at every,
turn BUT i. DON'T i don't feel like that.
Speaker 11 (39:53):
Anymore, NO i think it's time to move.
Speaker 2 (39:55):
ON i.
Speaker 1 (39:55):
DID i. DID i let it go and and, uh you,
know LIKE i, said and your team goes on and wins,
later it's easier to kind of forget about. That it's
Like Red sox fans finally Forgave Bill buckner once they
got on their scheme in one Four World series in
the twenty first. Century so you, KNOW i moved on
and THEN i And i've been to Some astros games since,
(40:18):
then SO i DON'T i begrudge them no. LONGER i
had for a. WHILE i don't. ANYMORE i like to
see the teams In texas do, well whether it be
The rangers or The, astros AND i hope both get
in the. PLAYOFFS i think it's gonna be a lot
of fun if both wind up getting into the, postseasons.
Speaker 11 (40:35):
Especially the Way alvarez is hitting for.
Speaker 1 (40:36):
You, yes, absolutely so we'll, see we'll see where it
leads from. There all. Right up, next we're gonna hear
From Long wrn's head, Coach Steve sarkisian when we continue.
Here i'm thirteen under The, zone the late Greats Gary,
wrights Whose Love Was. Alive it's funny about a year
Ago lynn AND i went up To. Arlington you, know
we're big got rock, fans and this is He Got Rock,
(40:59):
wednesday and that's why we're bumping back there With gary
right With love Is. Life we went up to see
how this is about as yacht rock as it, gets
because you, know there there are different levels of, it,
like for, Example Steely. Dan Steely dan is one of
the great classic rock bands of our, generation of our,
time but a lot of their catalog really falls into
(41:22):
the yacht rock. Genre don't believe. Me listen to The asia.
Album every, cut every single cut on that album is
the yacht rock genre type. Song uh, so if you
don't believe, me you just, listen you'll you'll hear. It
but that's that's on the more rocking and harder edge
(41:42):
of yacht. Rock on the other, side you got different,
ones and one of the ones we're with The sea Was.
Ambrosia so we go to See, ambrosia but Also ambrosia
had a special, guest John Ford, coley as Of England
dan and John Ford, coli both of whom were From.
Dallas when To Samuel, High, England dan is no longer with,
(42:04):
Us john Fil coley was. There in, fact we got
to meet him after the. Show he was very. Nice
but playing With, ambrosia John Ford coley they did as
a Tribute Gary wright had just passed away and they
did a version Of Love Is alive and it was really.
Speaker 2 (42:19):
Cool you, know AS i AS i get more comfortable
on this, SHOW i promise you a deep dive into yacht.
Speaker 11 (42:24):
Rock we'll see WHERE i kind of fall on those
two sides of the.
Speaker 1 (42:27):
Spectrum, okay begin with the, documentary, YES, hbo, right, yeah,
yeah yeah, Yeah so make sure you see the, documentary all, Right,
well to see the documentary and that'll kind of give
you an. Idea on the, textline somebody said grilled pamina
and cheese. SANDWICH M, YEAH i like. It sometimes toast
(42:49):
the bread and then you put mini cheese on, it
then warm it up about twenty seconds in the. Microwave
stuff some potato chips in. It it's.
Speaker 2 (42:57):
Good we also have some viewers joining us on the live.
Stream sala is In New York. City he's a man
Sal south from THE. Nyc good to hear From. South,
yeah he, says, Greetings craig and y'all sal nice to
meet you first. Time and he, says carpent are also
broadcast In mets. Games yes he, did he.
Speaker 1 (43:13):
Did Bob carpenter's had a long and distinguished career, football
basketball and. Baseball he Did big twelve basketball for a while,
too very very talented broadcaster and a fine. Man so you,
know it'll be happy sailing for, him as he calls
it a career going out on his terms at the
end of the season With Washington, nationals your baseball.
Speaker 2 (43:35):
Team that's, right the Voice curly w the voice of my.
Childhood and hopefully he signs off with his signature see you.
Speaker 1 (43:43):
Later, yeah he, does and Gotch that makes me feel
all what you say the voice of my. Childhood that's.
Speaker 11 (43:50):
Right think about a two thousand and five The nationals
come TO. Dc there he.
Speaker 1 (43:54):
IS i saw a game at OLD Rfk stadium that first.
Year taken my three older kids Through, washington D. C
before family, vacation and they had just moved down From
montreal and had been The. Expost AND i went to
a game once In montreal back in eighty six on
a baseball trip with a. Buddy saw The expost play The.
CUBS a GUY i did not know at that time
(44:18):
hit what proved to be the game winning home run
in THE i think it was in the eighth, inning
top of the. Eighth The cubs won two to. One
hit it Off expost Reliever Bob, sebra himself a Former texas.
Ranger the man that hit that home Run Keith. Morland, oh,
now my broadcast player baseball. Games keith was still play
with The. Cubs that was right in the height of
(44:40):
his time eighty two to eighty seven when he played
with The cubs as part of a thirteen year big league.
Career But montreal moved To, washington THE mlb moved the franchise,
there AND i took my kids to see a game
AT Rfk. Stadium had already been to ok to broadcast,
soccer AS i told you before with The.
Speaker 11 (44:59):
Pigeons yeah, yeah The.
Speaker 1 (45:00):
Pigeons, yeah they're a calling card. Everywhere BUT i had
not seen a baseball AND i wanted to see a
baseball game there Before Nationals park would be. Constructed SO
i took. Them we sat through one two hour rain.
Delay they were playing The, pirates and we got and
it's you, Know Drew cover and it was just messy
and stuff went back. In got in the third. INNING
(45:22):
i think we got it to where it was an
official game of the fifth and The skies open up.
Again they were going to do another rain, delay AND
i had, kids two of them are pretty young at the.
TIME i, said that's. It We've we've got to hit
The Washington monument and The smithsonian and The Lincoln memorial.
Tomorrow we're headed back to the. Hotel ice cream in the.
Hotel that was a better option for. Them after, that
you got your, FIXED i. DID i, did SO i
(45:43):
got a chance to see them play once, there And
i've been The Nationals park twice, since AND i like that.
Ballpark if you go to the press, box you're at nosebleed.
Level like, Yeah i've Heard texas as a high, booth
too very. High, Pittsburgh, milwaukee most major league, parks the newer,
ones the press box is way up there because in
(46:05):
order to build enough booths for The english, broadcast The
spanish broadcast of bo, teams national radio, Television spanish, television
gotta have enough. Boots John, blake executive vice president for The,
rangers who was the media relations got for decades and
when new and back in the, eighties told me WHEN
i first went up to do a big twelve baseball,
turn up, there he, Said, craig he, Said i've got
eleven broadcast. Boots but the only WAY i was going
(46:27):
to get him was due allow them to build them
way way. Up and that's what. Happened brewers have scored a,
Run rangers to lead at five to, three top of the.
Six but there's two on with two, out and it
looks LIKE i Think durban is coming out and Lifetime,
Longhorn Hoby, milner the left hander is coming in to
pitch for The. Rangers we'll keep you posted on, that all,
(46:50):
right let's hear From longhorn's head Coach Steve sarkisian from
THE sec conference call today talking about his team and other.
Matters were later to college Football week.
Speaker 12 (47:01):
Three FOR us, obviously and you, know second, game back
to back game here at DK, r and it was
an awesome, environment you, know having having last week's small
game at. HOME i thought our fans were. Tremendous looking
forward to seeing them again Here saturday afternoon AGAINST. Utep
looking for continuing growth in our football, team, uh trying
(47:23):
to get better in all three, Phases continuing to bring
some young players along that got some good experience last,
week and need to continue to try to do that this.
Week and try to play a more efficient game than
we did last. Week you, know obviously we had a
high number of. Penalties working on playing a cleaner game
and getting those numbers down and just.
Speaker 9 (47:43):
Being more efficient in all three. Phases the questions please use.
Speaker 11 (47:48):
The race and, function and we'll begin With Adam rittenberg OF.
Speaker 1 (47:52):
Espn, SORRY i cope you doing.
Speaker 13 (47:55):
Well just asking coaches how you approach the situations when
you have a player who's facing his former team and
managing the, emotions but just kind of going through a
week like. THAT i know you had that With hero
In Ohio state and you're in week, one but sure
there's been some other. Situations how do you approach the
when when when those things crop up with, transfers you.
Speaker 12 (48:16):
KNOW i try TO i try to get a pretty
good sense in a feel for our players, one you,
know throughout the, summer Throughout Fall, camp and as you
get into the early stages of the, season and THEN
i try to monitor the player that, week and IF
i feel like they're getting out of, CHARACTER i address.
It IF i feel like they're practicing, well they're they're being,
THEMSELVES i don't address.
Speaker 8 (48:37):
It you.
Speaker 12 (48:37):
KNOW i feel like sometimes you can make something out
of nothing when you start to do things like. That
and you, know A, HERO i thought he was in
a great place going into the, game and you, KNOW
i thought he played well in the.
Speaker 9 (48:48):
GAME i never addressed it with him one.
Speaker 13 (48:50):
Time you, know, obviously those guys know a lot about the.
Opponent do you try to mind him for information or
do you just leave him? Alone how do you sort
of balance that part of? It there can be an advantage,
obviously you.
Speaker 12 (49:03):
KNOW i think there's a fine line in. There you,
KNOW i think you, know sometimes you can start to outsmart.
Yourselves you, know they you, know every team you play
knows that they have a player that is a former
player on your.
Speaker 9 (49:16):
Team and and then, okay what do we need to?
Speaker 5 (49:21):
Change what do we need to?
Speaker 12 (49:22):
Adjust and you, know sometimes you can you can get
that information and then and then a coach can can
of kind of out smart, you and you can make
a call at the line of scrimmage and they think
it's one thing and to do something, else and or
you can use the signal they think it's one thing
and it's something.
Speaker 9 (49:36):
Else so you got to be very careful with.
Speaker 12 (49:38):
That you, know similar to THE nfl when you get
free agents and different things and you know guys you
know that they get traded and. Whatnot SO i just
think you have to be careful when it comes to
trying to get information for former players from from a
school Because i'm, assuming you, know they know that players
on our team and then they can outfox us if
(49:59):
you're not.
Speaker 1 (49:59):
Careful thank you very. Much, yeah ex Is Steve moulton's easy.
Speaker 14 (50:07):
In, hey, coach hope you're doing well, today, Sir thank
you you, Too thank you. Coach developing the team in
the locker room as well as on the. Field how
important is that locker room mentality and how would you
evaluate this team through the first couple of games for you?
Speaker 12 (50:26):
Coach, Yeah, NO i THINK i think the developing the
locker room and in our, case our, CULTURE i think
is as important as developing them as as players on the.
FIELD i think that you, Know i've said for a
long time now that that culture beats. Talent you, know
if you if you play as a team and you're
really well, connected and you're you're, trustworthy and you're accountable
(50:50):
and you do your job really, well you know that
that can that can supersede just a talented. Team, Now
i've always also said that a talented team that has
a really good, culture that has a, great strong locker,
ROOM i think that's really dangerous and really.
Speaker 9 (51:05):
Powerful that's that's when you have.
Speaker 12 (51:06):
Something and so we are constantly working on, both whether
it's in the off season or in, season AND i
think we're fortunate we've got a pretty good culture established
here now in year. Five i'm not saying we're, perfect
BUT i do think we have a pretty good one.
Established we've got some great team leaders that that set
(51:27):
the standard and set the set the tone for what
our culture.
Speaker 15 (51:30):
Is.
Speaker 12 (51:31):
Uh and then it's a constant race to try to
get your younger players slash newer players on your, roster
roster on board with what that standard and what that
culture is on a on a daily and consistent.
Speaker 1 (51:44):
Basis what what is the next step that you'd like
to see from this.
Speaker 12 (51:48):
Team, Coach, WELL i just think it's it's fine to
that level of consistency on the. Field you, know naturally
we're we're playing some new, people whether it's on the
offensive side of the, ball on special. Teams you, know
we're fortunate on defense to not have as many young
players getting forced into. ACTION i know we have some
(52:09):
some some newer faces on the defensive, front some of
those being, transfers but a little more experience on the
defensive side of the. Ball BUT i, think you, know
on special teams and on, offense we've got some newer
faces and we've had some growing, pains and so it's
we're finding trying to find this a level of consistency
of of the style of play in which we want
(52:30):
to play the game and then doing it on a consistent,
basis down in and down.
Speaker 1 (52:33):
Out thank you, Coach, yes.
Speaker 8 (52:35):
Sir.
Speaker 15 (52:38):
Next to be a sam con with the Athletic, Hey, Steve,
UH i know you touched a little bit On Malachi
nelson the other. Day uteb's. Quarterback i'm curious when he
was coming out of a recruit what did you think
of him when you evaluated.
Speaker 12 (52:57):
Him and what do you see from him as a player, Now,
YEAH i thought he was a really talented player in high.
School you know it was it was a very natural,
passer had a quick. Delivery they had a heck of
a high school. Team you, know he had some really talented.
Receivers DeAndre And moore was actually with him at one point.
THERE i Think Malachai lemon was, There Mackay, lemon excuse.
(53:18):
Me they had another, Kid. ETHAN i can't remember his last,
name BUT i just remember they had a very talented.
Speaker 1 (53:26):
Team.
Speaker 12 (53:27):
Uh he was one of the leaders of that team
through the ball really. Well, obviously was a very high.
Recruit and then you, know he's been on his own
journey at this, point and it's great that he's found a.
Speaker 9 (53:39):
Home he's playing good.
Speaker 12 (53:40):
Football you, know their offense obviously revolves a lot around
him being the quarterback and that style of, play and
so we we we've got to try to try to
do our best to contain him that, way and you,
know hopefully we can we can disrupt him a little
bit with our disguise and coverages and then ultimately with
the pass rush.
Speaker 15 (53:59):
Uh and quick fall THE i don't know if you
were asked about this On, monday but do you have
any thoughts on the potential move to one portal window
and the moving it To.
Speaker 9 (54:06):
January, yeah you, KNOW i Think i'm in favor of.
Speaker 12 (54:10):
It you, know having having gone through the varying portal
windows now for the past few, years and having been
in the playoffs the last two, years and dealing with
the jan excuse, me The december portal a year ago
and the previous two, years and then having dealt with you,
know being in the semi finals last year and playing
(54:33):
all the way Into january and dealing with the. Portal you,
know AS i was thinking about, it you, KNOW i
think for the betterment of our, game you, know when
you can eliminate that spring portal window uh there in
In april and Into may and you focus on just
that one window In, JANUARY i think that's the best
window for the. Players because, ultimately if they can get
(54:54):
into the portal and get to their new school In,
january that gives them an opportunity to to get acclimated
at their new, school that that that school's, culture that
school systems and. SCHEMES i think that's what's best for
the programs in, general because then we can figure out
our roster and start developing our team of what that
(55:16):
will look like through springball.
Speaker 1 (55:18):
And in the.
Speaker 12 (55:18):
Summer and at the end of the, day you, know
if you're one of the four teams that's dealing with the,
portal as you're as you're in the final, four.
Speaker 9 (55:28):
You, KNOW i guess that that's a pretty good problem to.
Speaker 12 (55:30):
Have that means you probably had a pretty good team
and you're having a good, season and you'll you'll figure it.
Out we've all got big enough staffs, now everybody's got
their you, know personnel departments and general managers and player
personnel directors and all the. Things you, know we've got
plenty of manpower that that we can manage. It SO
i just think it's probably in the best interest of,
everybody the, schools the, teams and and ultimately the student
(55:52):
athletes of having this window b where it.
Speaker 1 (55:55):
Is thanks so. Much, YEAH x Be David eckert at
The Austin American, Statesmen.
Speaker 8 (56:05):
Steve appreciate the time. Today you had mentioned last week,
that you, know you kind of intended to rotate some
guys or would have to rotate some guys just because
of the. HEAT i don't know if the temperature gun
is hot down, there as maybe the forecast, suggested BUT
i was just curious what your process was for getting
(56:26):
guys ready to play in, that maybe specifically the guys
who aren't from, here just how you prepare them for.
Speaker 12 (56:33):
That, Yeah and you, KNOW i think one thing we
try to, do especially throughout training camp is we really
rotate our practice times in training. Camp and you, know
we practice at two thirty in the afternoon In, august
we practice at night In, August we'll practice in the
morning In. August so we try to rotate our practice
times in training camp to get them. Acclimated even going
(56:55):
back into the summer In june And, july we run
the guys in the after, noon you, know at four
in the afternoon at the hottest part of the, day
to get them get them acclimated to that to that
heat as. Well and then from a practice, standpoint you,
know we were really our reps are pretty evenly.
Speaker 9 (57:15):
Distributed to a point to where they should get exposed to.
Speaker 12 (57:19):
It but there's nothing like that game day of performing
uh in that in that heat and then having a
rotation of what that feels like rotating through and you,
KNOW i thought we did a pretty good job of
it last. WEEK i think we can be better as
a staff from a player rotation, standpoint and so that's
that's one of the points of emphasis this week for,
(57:41):
us you, know of rotating a little bit more earlier
in the game.
Speaker 9 (57:45):
And find that level of consistency of getting more guys
on the.
Speaker 1 (57:48):
Field That's longhorns head Coach Steve sarkashan from THE sec.
Teleconference tomorrow we get his final update of the week
in terms of the generic all encompassing set from The
zoom media. Session we'll have, that and then of course

Wrong Christopher cross belongs on.
Speaker 8 (58:44):
It he just.
Speaker 1 (58:45):
Does my wife had him down as her overrated artist survey.
Did but but she meant not that he was and.
Talented she she was all about that and she was
she just thought that all the the fuss and the hubbub.
(59:06):
GRANT i, said, well the dude did win Five. Grammys
must mean you talk about him a. Lot, yeah, yeah
that sort of. Thing. Uh not that she dis likes his,
music she.
Speaker 10 (59:14):
Doesn't she just maybe overrated by her lovely. Husband uh,
no in her. OPINION i didn't think he's. Overrated oh, no, no, no,
no not by. You but maybe you talk him up a,
Lot so that's.
Speaker 1 (59:26):
Could, be could. Be, yeah, yeah that's that's certainly. POSSIBLE
i hadn't really thought about, that but, yeah it's uh,
yeah it's it's it's definitely a. Possibility uh We uh
you said we had more people weighing in on the
text line. Too, yeah, oh one THING i want to
say that somebody, said you pointing Out England Dan Dan
(59:47):
seals born in, Mckainey, texas out West, yep he, SAID
i think he grew up In ranking with his, grandparents
spent a lot of time there and also In. Midland
his parents had split, up but he ended up going
to high school because John Ford, coley his, partner told
this story when he did the. Concert the two of
them went To Samuel high In dallas, together But England,
(01:00:08):
dan uh you know. Uh afterwards it was was called
that because he liked Everything. Beatles beatles were in. It
so his friends going To England dan and Then Dan
seals with what happened With seals And. Crofts Summer breeze
is about growing, out growing up out In West. Texas
and that's a yacht rock, Song, Okay and now you
(01:00:30):

Speaker 11 (01:00:32):
Thing ike also says.

(01:01:48):
nothing to hurt their chances so far to this, point
leading the team with the best record overall in, baseball The,
brewers and not only leading them five to three in
the eighth, inning but when one considers what they've done
of late and how The rangers have kind of resurrected.
Themselves they won three in a row now AND i
(01:02:09):
think they won nine out of their last.
