Speaker 1 (00:00):
Later this hour, we'll talk about the best available NFL
free agents. Yes, there are still some guys out there
that have some names that you know, will they end
up on teams before Week one of the NFL season.
We will go through some of those and NBA Free
Agency Day number two and things are actually starting to
move around and happen. Did Damian Lillard actually end up
(00:22):
being the biggest winner of Day number two? We'll tell
you all about it next. Cole Dixon on the ones
and twos making it sound pretty in Austin, Texas. Want
to appreciate him for that. But we start here. This
is the biggest story that nobody's talking about. It's Paul Finebaum.
This morning on Get Up. You got asked the question
how good do you think arch Manning could be.
Speaker 2 (00:47):
The absolute roof?
Speaker 3 (00:48):
I think there was a reasonably good chance that arch
Manning will be sitting on the front row in New
York at the Heisman ceremony. That's assuming that his team
does what it's supposed to do and compete for not
only the SEC but for the national championship. And I
really believe they will. I think Steve Sarkisian, who's one
of the most amazing play callers I've ever seen. Made
a critical mistake late in the year. He was way
(01:11):
too loyal to quinn Ewers, who was banged up and
was really ineffective. Had arch Manning been instituted in the
second half of that game, like Nick Saban did a
couple of years ago with tongue of I loa, I
think there's a reasonably good chance that Texas would have
beaten Ohio State and won the national championship.
Speaker 2 (01:30):
They're very capable of.
Speaker 3 (01:32):
Doing it again this year. I believe also that arch
Manning is the best college football quarterback we have seen
since Tim Tebow entered the scene in two thousand and six.
Speaker 1 (01:42):
You can hear the announcers with him going, Wow, we're
comparing him to Tim Tebow. We're comparing a guy who
showed up in what ten games last season, completed sixty
one passes, throw nine touchdowns. We're comparing that guy to
one of the great quarterbacks in college football history. Look,
(02:03):
here's the deal. I understand where fine Bomb's coming from.
We talked about a little bit inn Hour number one
about how I thought that he's just trying to put
a stick in the spokes of the Longhorn wheel that
he is trying to throw University of Texas off track
before they can get on track, and that Sarkesian is
in an unenviable position position in the current NBA. In
(02:24):
the current NBA, how do you end up or I'm sorry,
the current current NF college football it feels like the
NFL in the current college football world. How do you
make sure your guys aren't taken off, thrown off by
all of the outside noise. How do you make sure
that your team is clear headed and ready to play
(02:46):
come Saturday? And that's a good question to ask, I think,
I think that's a really tough spot to be in
if you are Steve Sarkasian. But for Arch to get
this type of hype, to be told, hey, you're expected
to be in the first row of the Heisman Trophy ceremony,
that's a lot. That's a lot of pressure. But it
seems like his uncle Peyton Manning, who was on Pat
(03:09):
McAfee earlier today, he was talking about how hard Arch
is working in and how excited he is to watch
him play this season in Austin.
Speaker 4 (03:20):
Uh. Look, Eli Iyers uncles. We try to be there
as a resource forum, but you know, Cooper has done
a great job with Arch and they've handled you know,
all the different things that have kind of come their
way in the right way. And uh, I'm excited to
watch Arch play. He's been very patient. I thought he
threw the ball really well at the camp. He and
(03:41):
Garrett Duschmeyer in the kind of our three throwing exhibitions,
really threw the ball well. All the quarterbacks though it well,
it's impressive. I mean they make throws that I wouldn't
even think about making. I mean, Archs made a throw
the other day that I did the cutoff man to
the actual receiver and fire Leonoris for South Carolina. I mean,
(04:04):
it's impressed them all the way around. But look, he's
been patient. You know, it's been well documented the fact
that he's you know, been there two years. I'm such
a believer in mastering the system that you're in and
when you have new coordinators every single year in the
NFL or College, that's just frustrating to me. I was lucky,
you know, Tom Moore, Pat was there my entire fourteen year,
(04:27):
fourteen year career. Belichick gave Brady some different coordinators. Charlie
Weissman Daniels O'Brien. But it was the same system, right
Nick Saban makes his quarterbacks. Our new coordinators learned his system,
so it is Kirby. And so the fact that Sarkeshian
calls the plays and Art has been there two years
already is going to know the system. That's going to
be a huge advantage for him. And I'm looking forward
(04:48):
to seeing him get out there on the field. He's
worked real hard. I love seeing him going to that
camp for his teammate. That's being a good teammate, that's
being a good wing man. And I'm excited to get
down there and watch a few games this year at Austin.
Speaker 1 (05:02):
Yeah, and look, the man in Pasca Academy has been
the premiere places for young quarterbacks to be developed and seen, honestly.
And you saw that John Gruden, the former Super Bowl
winning coach, was down there. You saw that Todd mcshae,
the NFL scout and analyst for the Ringer at this point,
was down there. So there's a lot of eyeballs on
(05:24):
those guys, Drew Aller, Kate Klubnick, all those dues, Garrett
and Nussmeyer, all those quarterbacks in this class of twenty
twenty five are all talked about and watched at this
camp and Arch looked like again, you know, you heard
it from his uncle Peyton, who I imagined probably would
tell us the truth. I'll be completely frank here. If
(05:46):
Arch didn't look good or he wasn't competing at that level,
I imagine that if Pat McAfee called, hey, Peyton, can
he come on the show and talk about Arch, he
probably would say no. He probably wouldn't put Archie in
that position. So if he's coming on national platforms and saying, hey,
this kid is looking really impressive, it's not just because
he's my nephew. It's because he's actually that good. I
(06:08):
tend to believe and tend to buy into the idea
that he's going to be that good.
Speaker 2 (06:12):
However, just go back to the start.
Speaker 1 (06:14):
I'm not in love with fine Bomb coming on television
and talking as highly about Texas as he was. And again,
you're thinking of yourself kind of weird, right, Zimble. You
want the Longhorns to be spoken of positively, that's true. However,
when you put it in the world, put it back
in the ether. Get the conspiracy theory rolling once again.
(06:35):
That Sarkisian made a mistake not playing Arch in the
second half of the season. That's where I have a
problem with it. Look, I talked to a lot of
Sooner fans, talk to a lot of college football fans,
but Sooner fans in particular, who are convinced that Sarkisian
made the mistake of playing Quinn late in the season
and that it should have been Arch's team going forward.
(06:57):
It's Arch's team now. The expectations are high, the ceiling
is very high. In that first game in Columbus against
the defendant National champions, the same way last year, going
to the Big House was a major task, a major
benchmark in the season for the Longhorns. Longhorns going to
Ohio State to take on the National champions. The way
(07:19):
that he plays, Arch Manning plays will be talked about,
will be dissected, analyzed under a microscope, unlike any other
quarterback this season, and in fact, I would say the
rest of the quarterbacks this season, Kate Clubdick, like I
said Garrett dus Meyer, all these different guys. Because LSU
is going to try to win an SEC title this
year with Brian Kelly, Clemson is trying to win the
(07:42):
ACC with Dabos Sweeney. All these quarterback and coaches are
honestly in a much better position because of Arch, Maanning
and Sarkesian because they can all now draft behind the
media attention that this group is going to get. Nobody
else is going to be under that type of stre
In fact, I said it before, I'll say it again
(08:03):
this season for the Texas Longhorse. If you thought last
year was crazy with the media attention, college game day expectations,
If you thought last year was wild, If you thought
eighth nine trying to compete for national titles was wild,
or five taken on USC was wild, I'll tell you
this this season will be unlike any of those. When
(08:23):
it talked about the media circuit, You're going to have
so many eyeballs, so much expectations on these guys. And
if Arch complete and competes and is as good as
we think he is going to be, which I have
a load of respect and I think he's going to
be that type of guy. If he competes and plays
at that level, brother, you are going to be on
(08:47):
a different level. There hasn't been a quarterback maybe since
Tim Tebow. We're being completely honest with you that has
had this type of scrutiny. And we're not talking about
Tibo when he first started. We're talking about national champion,
Heisman Trophy win, Tim Tebow. That guy had already won
awards and accolades before we had this type of pressure
on him. To compare him to that, that's insane. That's
(09:09):
a high bar and it's not really fair. Knows what
he's no, and fine bomb knows what he's doing too.
When he does that type of thing. He knows that
he's going to get the gas bag on the radio
talking about it. He knows he's going to get the
blog post written about it. He knows what he's doing
when he says things like that. And I don't think
it's fair and I don't think it's right for him
to do that, to arch into Texas.
Speaker 5 (09:32):
No, No, not at all. And yeah, I mean look,
fine Bam knows what he's doing. Again, hindsight, Like I
said last our Hindsight's twenty twenty. If we put him in,
do we win?
Speaker 2 (09:41):
Do we not?
Speaker 5 (09:42):
It's like when I go, you know, to a high rise,
do I type in you know which which floors aren't working?
And then I go play the lottery and I win
that we'll never know. It's just again, we gotta wait
and see. You like that callback, We just got to
wait and see. Be patient, man, that's all I like.
That's what I'm really stressing when people ask me, like,
just be patient and set expectations. Just you know, he might.
(10:04):
I mean, he's gonna struggle a little bit here and there.
But also realize this is his first year starting. Everyone
just take a breath, relax, let him do what he's doing.
Sark knows what he's doing. He's done this on purpose
because of who Arch is, and everyone just sit back, relax,
enjoy the show.
Speaker 2 (10:23):
It's gonna be a great season.
Speaker 1 (10:26):
I agree. I agree a lot. Now, are you a
big college football video game guy?
Speaker 2 (10:33):
No? No, I don't play video games.
Speaker 5 (10:36):
No, I don't play video games because I know myself
too well. Where if I start playing video games, I'm
not gonna leave my house and all these things. But
and I'm not really good at them either. So I
enjoy watching people play video games. But I enjoy watching
clips of you know, you know, the NCAA football game
or whether it be two K.
Speaker 2 (10:54):
But I like watching if that makes sense.
Speaker 1 (10:57):
So the ratings for the new game came out and
they have the different quarterbacks. Kate Klubnick will be ranked
the highest quarterback of along with Drew Aller as the
two highest ranked quarterbacks in the game at ninety two.
Speaker 2 (11:11):
Arch is a ninety Does that seem right to you?
Speaker 1 (11:14):
Does that seem like the right kind of area those
two guys number one and two arch being I think, like,
what tenth on best quarterback coming in this year via
the video game stats.
Speaker 5 (11:27):
I'm not mad at it, but the small sample size
we do have and we've seen, you know, sure that's
fair enough to me. But also I'm gonna play devil's
advocate if he struggles and he has to go down
in the ratings. But you got to take the last
name out of it too, and just look at just
the quarterback in himself. Take away the last name and
(11:49):
just watch the quarterback. But we have to play both
sides of the ball here and really hold expectations to
a high standard. If he's struggling, he's going to struggle.
But if he's doing well, I get it. So we'll
see how it goes.
Speaker 1 (12:02):
We'll continue to think about it as we get closer
and closer to the college football season.
Speaker 2 (12:06):
I'm pumped for it. We're in July.
Speaker 1 (12:08):
We are about a month away, two ish month months
away from a college FOOTBA all right, when we come back,
we have NBA free agency.
Speaker 2 (12:17):
Did Damian Lillard win the day?
Speaker 1 (12:19):
We'll tell you what I mean next Andrews and we'll
