Speaker 1 (00:00):
First reveal of the first release that one other point
that I was gonna make up the Big twelve, and
I mentioned Colorado is twentieth in the first reveal rankings
six and two, and it's the first time Colorado has
even been in the CFP rankings since twenty twenty. And
(00:25):
there's a great deal of excitement building up in Boulder
and a lot of folks saying, yeah, we told you,
I'm gonna get this thing turned and flipped. And they're
already Bowl eligible and so on and so forth. They
do have a pathway to get to the Big twelf
championship game, so does Texas Tech. But say to say,
(00:46):
the loser of the game in Lobbock this Saturday will
be eliminated from that pathway. So it is kind of
an elimination game, and much as the LSU Alabama game
is pretty much an elimination game for the se C
championship game. Although although Cam heather Dinich, who studies this,
(01:06):
Alverias Dudeley pointed out that a loss by either LSU
or Alabama does not necessarily take them out of the playoff.
Given I think Alabama street the schedule is eleven.
Speaker 2 (01:21):
I'm telling you they cannot quit Alabama. Well, they won't quit.
Speaker 1 (01:26):
Them in Alabama, I think, giving them reason not to
quit on them yet to quit them. We'll see, we'll
see how it goes. It's a very important game, no
question about. In fact, after the Long Worns game, which
has an eleven AM kick, there's two very important SEC
games following Georgia Ole miss Follows followed by Alabama and
LSU in the night time slot. So important stuff there.
(01:51):
As far as the Texas Florida game goes. Long Worns
head coach Steve Sarkisian took part in the SEC Coaches
Call today and uh, you know this, like I said,
we're back on a regular schedule now for Texas football
and for the media availabilities. And so sark was asked
(02:13):
about this matchup with the Florida Let's start off with
his opening remarks about this matchup with the Florida Gators
on Saturday morning.
Speaker 3 (02:20):
Good do it back on the back on the field
this Saturday, coming off our second by getting ready to
play a Florida team that my opinion has gotten better
all year long. They played really good over the last
month and a half. And I don't think they're they're clearly,
their record is an indicative of you know, how good
of a football team coaching Apier has the job he's
(02:42):
done and developing that team. So it should be a
great ball game. And like I said, looking forward to
getting back on the field and competing.
Speaker 2 (02:48):
All right, that is the first part.
Speaker 1 (02:49):
So then the questions came for Sark, and I noticed
this on Monday, even when Cameron and I were in
Las Vegas getting ready for the basketball game, we were
watching and listening to Sark online. Of course, we bring
you the press conference as part of our long Orange
Monday presentation every Monday, with our coverage starting at eleven am,
(03:12):
and then of course it's televised. They're locally here on KBVO,
but also on the long worn network and on the
longer network Gap. And a lot of the questions that
happened on Monday, or let's just say there was a
healthy handful of those questions, seemed to center around the
(03:33):
offense and getting back in a rhythm, getting back in
a groove. And so Sark was asked this morning on
the SEC teleconference, how close is his offense to connecting
the way he wants to see them do and operating
the way he wants to see them operate.
Speaker 2 (03:47):
Yeah, I think we're pretty close. That's it. See.
Speaker 1 (03:56):
And the reason why he answered that way is because
he had such a bevy of questions about it on Monday.
Speaker 2 (04:02):
You know, how close is close? And what do you
need to do?
Speaker 1 (04:05):
He I thought on Monday, I thought he did pretty
good job, liking it to a shooter in basketball getting
some shots to drop, or a baseball player, you know,
making good swings, making good contact, but finally getting some hits,
some things to go through and or drive the ball. Well,
so he probably heard quite a bit by the time
it got to the day. He was also asked about
(04:27):
having two bye weeks in the regular season, you know,
and this is always something I found interesting is that reporters,
it is their job to ask about certain things, even
things over which the head coach has absolutely no control whatsoever,
(04:48):
and that includes the two bye weeks, good, bad, and different.
Speaker 2 (04:51):
Sark was asked about it.
Speaker 3 (04:53):
Well, I mean, it obviously makes it long, you know,
but the length of the season. You know, when you
really analyzed it from front to back and you look
at you know, kicking off the season in August, and
you know, all of us have goals and aspirations of
playing until January twentieth and now with the format of
(05:15):
the twelve team playoff, if you're fortunate enough to get
in that, I think there is a lot of value
in the two buys this year. Again, it's not always ideal.
Sometimes you just want to keep playing. But I can
say this for us, I think that the buys came
at really good times. We definitely had some injuries that
(05:36):
we were dealing with in the first buy, dealing with
some injuries here.
Speaker 2 (05:39):
At the second bye.
Speaker 3 (05:41):
We had some things that we needed to work on,
especially offensively, where we were trying to get ourselves back
to the standard of which we can play.
Speaker 2 (05:50):
So I think the timing was good for us this
time around. Again.
Speaker 1 (05:54):
All right, So now we're on the Florida and you
heard last hour we had Sean Kelleyhong talking about out
them being four and four but a highly competitive for
and four. After the Sluggers start losing to Miami, losing
to Texas A and m but they took Tennessee to
overtime on the road. It's a twenty twenty fourth quarter
ball game with Georgia. Before the Bulldogs scored the final
two touchdowns of the game. So what has impressed Sark
(06:17):
about the Gators.
Speaker 2 (06:18):
Well, their last five game stretch.
Speaker 3 (06:20):
You know, they beat Mississippi State pretty handily, they beat
UCF pretty handily. They go they go to Knoxville and
lose to Tennessee in overtime. Who I think they're ranked
six or seventh in the country right now. Then they
turn around and they beat Kentucky pretty handily. And then
they're tied twenty twenty with the number three team in
(06:42):
the country Georgia last week with seven minutes to go.
So and that's playing with their third quarterback. So I
commend Billy for the job he's done of keeping that
team playing at a really high level. They played really
good defense, their physical on the offensive side of the ball.
It definitely, you know, really woke Ocean all three phases.
Speaker 1 (07:01):
And again, when you get to press conferences and conference calls,
quite often, you'll have a unique variety of questions not
only about his own program and also the program that
his team will encounter this week, and talking about Texas
(07:24):
and Florida as football programs. But Sarcus also asked if
he thought there were similarities between the two schools Florida
and Texas as academic institutions as universities, I.
Speaker 3 (07:38):
Think there's some familiarity there. I'm sure that a lot
of other schools would kind of deem themselves in the
same light. So again, you know, I don't we just
try to focus on exactly what we do.
Speaker 2 (07:51):
I'm not sure of all the ins and outs of
their place.
Speaker 3 (07:55):
I know it's a great job, They've had a great
program for a lot of years, and obviously it's good institution, So,
you know, comparing them to all the other schools, off
the top of my head, without having any notes that
I could do some research on right now, probably a
little bit difficult.
Speaker 1 (08:11):
And not only that, knowing Sarcus, I know him and
knowing what his schedule is like, I don't think he'd
want to put a lot of time and energy into
researching the academic comparisons of the University of Texas and
the University of Florida, whether it be in terms of
GPA or degrees, degree programs offered, and however it might be.
(08:38):
But in any event, he said that without any notes
in front of me, it'd be difficult to do that,
but he does have an appreciation for them. Just going well,
I don't think Cam that I'll ask him that exact
question when we record long, long, weekly, like what's your
opinion of Texas in Florida's universities how they did? And
you know, I don't know that I'll ask him that
(09:00):
sort of thing. But you know, on a conference call
deal like this, there's going to be a variety of
topics discussed. What I am surprised in looking at the
list of what we call in the business slugs, the
cut slugs, in other words, the description of what he's
(09:20):
talking about. I don't see one thing. And I was
traveling in so I didn't get to hear the call.
I don't see one thing here. One question of Sark
asked about the college football playoff ranking or anything.
Speaker 2 (09:35):
Nobody asked him about that. Nobody nobody asked him about Now.
Speaker 1 (09:40):
Of course there is he does have a media availability tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (09:43):
Yeah, yeah, I'm sure he'll be Yeah, he'll have the
Thursday media zoom.
Speaker 1 (09:50):
He'll be asked about that because that's what would you say,
ninety nine percent local media.
Speaker 2 (09:56):
For the Yeah, so I'm sure he'll be is but
nobody asked him about it.
Speaker 1 (10:00):
It's interesting given the SEC know what you think on
the teleconference today, they that they didn't ask Kirby Smart
about it, that they didn't ask you know, Kaylin de
Boorr about it. Interesting, that's all right, That's something I
will ask him about so and I don't even think
(10:20):
I'll have to ask, you know, the question cards that
we hand out, somebody will write what do you think
of your ranking in the college football play and I'll
let that person have the question, if that's the deal.
So anyway, we'll hear more from start coming up next
hour from this conference call, and we'll get to some
NFL notes coming up on sports Radio AM thirteen under
the Zone in the iHeartRadio app.
