Speaker 1 (00:00):
My ninety degree rule will be in effect for people
who fall a golf or play golf. They understand what
a ninety degree rule is. It's when you can take
your cart path down to the take your cart, your
golf cart down the cart path to a ninety degree
angle to where you hit your golf ball, and then
turn it at the ninety degree angle either left or
(00:22):
right to go out to your ball that still preserve
the fairway conditions and that sort of thing. I have
a ninety degree rule for our attire as broadcasters, and
that is if it's temperately climate, if it's a very
temperate club, like in the like when we were up
(00:44):
in Michigan and it was in the fifties when we
were started, we're wearing we were wearing sport jackets and turtlenecks,
that sort of thing. And we'll wear coat and tie
on occasion as well. But if the temper or the
heat indecks is forecast to reach ninety that day, we
(01:04):
just go and polosh or coaches polos. Is what makes
Roger Wallace very happy to me. He likes that. So
the forecast I for Dallas on Saturay, I think it's
ninety three, so we'll be in the Polos on Saturday.
I don't think there's any doubt about that. Yep, it's
not ninety or thereabouts. In New York, the Mets and
(01:27):
Phillies are playing Game three of their National League Division series,
and the Mets are out to a one nothing lead
as the Phillies beat on the top of the third inning.
Shanm and I on the mound for the Mets this afternoon,
so it's one nothing Mets again. That series is tied
at a game of piece. That best of five. Game
three of the other National League Division series takes place
(01:49):
tonight at eight o'clock in San Diego, with the Padres
and Dodgers tied at a game of piece. San Diego
with the decided edge and the pitching now because they're
starting pitching is really set up well. With Michael King
set to go for the Padres, the Dodgers are having
to go to Walker Bueller and hope, hope he can
dial it in. He's been, he's been better of late,
(02:12):
but he's not the old, you know, Walker Bueler like
he was before he had to have the first of
now two Tommy John surgeries. So uh, well, we'll see
about that how as it goes. And then and it's
a travel day for the American League Division Series. Cleveland
Detroit will play Game three tomorrow at Comerica Park in Detroit,
and the Yankees and Royals will play Game three tomorrow
(02:36):
Kaufin Stadium in Kansas City. Both those series tied to
a game apiece, all four Division Series one one going
into today's activity.
Speaker 2 (02:44):
How about Bobby Witt Junior hitless, hitless for the playoffs so.
Speaker 1 (02:49):
Far, hitless and the Royals finding a way to win
without that? What if he ever turns it on? And
you know, Aaron Judge hasn't exactly lit it up since
he's been going, so it's it's been other guys who
have made the difference so far for both of those
ball clubs. Salvador Perez a big home run last night.
You know, they've had other guys chip in and make
(03:11):
a difference on them. To the NFL, And you said
it at the top of the program, and I'm in
agreement with you. I did not expect the first coach
to be fired in the NFL this season to be
Robert Salah the Jets. I did not Woody Johnson is
(03:32):
the Jets owner, he said, and it kind of stung
to a lot of people. He named his defensive coordinator,
Jeff Ulbridge as the interim head coach. Sala was fired
Woody Johnson, his first in season coaching change in twenty
five years of ownership, and he said he consulted with
general manager Joe Douglass, but called it, quote my decision
(03:56):
and mine alone. Well that kind of has a Jerry
Jones play too a little. It was is my decision
and mine alone. And hypothetically I'm smiling when I say that.
But Woody Johnson and his brother, Christopher Johnson, the vice chairman,
broke the news to Salah in his office at the
team facility. According to sources, Sola was shocked and don't
(04:18):
you always love this?
Speaker 2 (04:19):
Yep?
Speaker 1 (04:20):
I escorted to the car by the director of security
as protocol, all that kind of stuff. Johnson said on
the conference call with reporters, quote, this is probably the
best team I've had in twenty five years. I just
felt that the best way to go forward was a
new direction, taking Jeff Ulbert and making him the interim
(04:40):
head coach. I thought that would get the most out
of this team and give us the best chance that
we all want to have, which is going to the playoffs.
So Sala finishes at twenty and thirty six in his
time there, and there was some discussion speculation that there
(05:08):
was a difference of opinion on how the offense was
to be run with Aaron Rodgers. But what he Johnson
said Rogers had no input into the coaching change. He
said he spoke to Rogers after Sunday's game, claiming solid
status or a potential move was not discussed. There had
(05:29):
been speculation of this rift between those two dating the
Sola's decision to find Rogers for taking a vacation to
Egypt during the mandatory mini camp, but publicly both men
denied any friction in the relationship. So he's done, he's gone,
and it'll be interesting to see what happens with the
Jets going forward on that now.
Speaker 2 (05:51):
So I mean they're still they're not out of the
playoffs at all. No, they have a I think a
fantastic defense now. Their offensive line, as if you watch
the London game, does need some work because Rogers was
taking a lot of shots in that one and I'm
not so sure about that. Daniel Hackett, as the offensive coordinator.
But if you're looking at the way things stand in
(06:12):
the AFC, even in the NFC, you know, with the
extra playoff spot, seven teams total, Jets only what a
game back from Buffalo, who has now lost two in
a row.
Speaker 1 (06:23):
So yeah, let me get your thoughts on this, Okay,
if we were to go just just you know, like
I said, not quite a third of the wait in
the season five games. But if we were to look
at this right now, Kansas City's five and zero, we
think they're going to win the West, right Okay, Houston's
four and one. I think that's the weakest division in
the AFC. I think the Texans are going to win
the South, that the North is going to be a
(06:47):
dog fight. The Ravens and Steelers are both three and two. Now,
the Browns and Megals both won and four, but whoever
doesn't win is probably going to get in as a
wild card. And then you got, like you said, Buffalo's
three and two. The Jets and Dolphins are both two
and three. Broncos are the surprise of the AFC, don't
you think?
Speaker 2 (07:02):
Oh I'm sure?
Speaker 1 (07:03):
Yeah, Okay, So who has a better shot at making
the playoffs? Right now?
Speaker 2 (07:08):
The Broncos are the Jets. I would lean with the
Jets over the Broncos just because it's only been a
month of bo Knicks and Denver. If you're gonna tell
me I'm riding with Knicks to Rogers, I'm gonna ride
with Aaron Rodgers down the stretch and looks like Denver.
You got the Chargers twice. Still on the schedule, they
(07:30):
have the Bengals, they have the Chiefs twice, they have
the Ravens once. It's pretty tough there Indianapolis as well
Falcons on that schedule. I would think that Jets just
because the last two weeks, you know, I'm not totally
sour on them. They had the London trip. You got
Rogers forty years old. That can't be an easy trip.
(07:52):
That the field did not look like it was great
playing conditions as well, and then you know the Denver game,
awful weather. Can this be a catalyst for the Jets
turning the season around? Like, I wouldn't be surprised if
Rogers by the end of November, we're kind of back
to Oh, Rogers is back to being Rogers instead of
is he washed? All right?
Speaker 1 (08:12):
It's still a devil's advocate here. Look at the Jets schedule.
They have the Bills twice, they have to go to Arizona,
They have the Seahawks at home, they have the Texans
at home, they have to go to Pittsburgh. Those are
the most difficult games. And remember the Broncos hold a
tiebreaker on the Jets because they beat him had the head.
(08:35):
So I think it'll probably come down to the final
weeks between those two maybe vying for that final, that
seventh playoff position, and two.
Speaker 2 (08:44):
Of them may come back, and it's Miami. Miami just
wraps off five or six straight wins and it's a
misplayoffs with the Jets, and we had to the offseason
wondering what's next for Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 1 (08:55):
It could be all right. We'll be back to wrap
up today's show on Sports Radio. I'm thirteen under the Zone.
