Oh? I mean, I'm kindof being thrown back into the world of
auditioning. Okay, So you know, I just I feel like it's more
of that. It's more just perfectingmy craft, getting out there and you
know, just being being put inthe game. It's different. It's it's
it's interesting. I haven't been likekind of auditioning for a long time,
so its no, zero, absolutelynot. I can be I guessed right,

but not in your situation, definitelynot. And I feel like,
you know, I feel like youknow, Yeah, when you feel like
you've gotten to a point where there'sno room to grow, you're not gonna
yeah, so you always have tokind of stay hungry and humble with that.

popular show. Final season. It'svery emotional for everyone, very bittersweet.

Yeah, I'm not crying. You'reright, but you you know, from
the Fosters to Good Trouble, yougrew up on television, right, this
is what you do. This iswho you are, right, this is
your identity. Absolutely, it's beenit's been a huge blessing to be a
part of, you know, thislegacy of a show. Ten years that

I've been on it, and I'vereally grown up alongside my character, which
has been awesome. And just toget the feedback from all of our fans.
It's the true reason why we havelasted on the air for so long.
It's all because of them. I'mso forever grateful to them and for
this experience it's been. It's beena beautifuljourney. And you got a shot
the direct as well. I suredid. I never got used to that.

That was that was a muscle.I never worked. So were you
filming scenes and you were directing inthe middle of the scene. I was,
yes, so you're wearing two hatsat once. It was really cool.
Yeah, it was. It wasso much fun. I've always been
super passionate about the behind the scenesas much as I was being in front
of the camera, So to havethat opportunity was awesome. It was it
like you cut? It was,yes, yes, very much that it

was a hold And you're like,are you gonna explore that a little bit
more in the future. I wouldlove to. I caught the bug.
I truly fell in love with thatentire process, and I would love to
do it again. Yeah, Like, what's something about directing that you were
you didn't really expect? Oh youknow what I should. I did love

that. I did love that.No, it was it was really challenging.
It was really fun to get outof my comfort zone, you know.
But I was actually really surprised atyou know, how much I did
actually kind of know growing up onthat set, I didn't give myself enough
credit for. But I felt sosupported the entire way. My whole crew,
who I have been working with mostof them for like about ten years

now. They're all like my brothersand sisters and uncles. You know,
they were all rooting me along thewhole way and wanted to see me win.
So it was a really awesome time. That's amazing. Now you were
shining. Boy, people that don'tnecessarily gatekeep are trying to like never challenge
your direction, right, that's amazing. To have that trust too, was
amazing to you know, know thatthey were very very so I felt really

(03:47):
lifted and it kind of that reallyhelped me kind of step into that new
role and kind of just own itin a way. You know. I
felt really comfortable to do that.So it was really awesome. Yeah,
because I'm sure you're going to meetsome challenges, right, You're gonna and
challenges comes in the form of peoplesometimes and He's just like, yo,
man, I'm just trying to domy thing. I'm trying to do the
best job possible here. You know, pay attention to me right right now?

Luckily. I was really surrounded bya lot of love. That's so
good. That's great being of love. To see the hand I know,
I know that thing sunk, theTitanic. Thank you so talk about it
was my goodness. It was adream come true of a proposal. Yeah,

you love this guy. Let's behonest. I'm obsessed with him.
I'm obsessed with him. No,it was it was, Oh my gosh,
what a dream. It was backin my hometown in Texas, and
he surprised me with all of ourfriends and family, and it was just
it was perfect. I couldn't havedreamed up a better proposal. Did he
ask your dad for permission? Well, he asked, yes, he asked

my family. My dad passed away, but you know what he is.
He he loved Jonathan, so youknow he had his approval. But he
asked my family for your family,he did, and he knew how important
it was that you know, theywere they were a part of it.
So that was really special. Yeah, of course, what was that.
Jackie has this thing she's waiting tobe engaged, Like, no, really,

she's been waiting. Hilarious. Sheuh has a few rules when it
comes to me. She doesn't wantto be proposed to on a holiday or
in a public setting. So wasyours on a holiday or explain around your
family? Was so funny. Iactually I had that rule too because we
had spoken about it. I didn'tknow it was coming, but yeah,

even anniversaries, Like I'm like,I want this to have its own day.
Literally, I'm with you on thatday. I really set the boundaries
of like, Okay, no birthday, no holiday, anniversary, and no
sporting of it. Like God alsowants to design the ring counter to that?

Do I mean it's just people don'treally celebrate the engagement day. Yes,
no, you're absolutely count you knowyou're right because then now we're like,
so do we celebrate that day now, like as our anniversary? Yeah
no you don't. So you're right. That's my only colendar. Like,
no, like to each his own, you know you want to. But
I'm with Jackie, like, Ithink that it deserves its own day.
It does. You can't share itwith Christmas, Halloween, Valentine's Day that's

Like, what are you like justgonna miss so much about this?
Oh my goodness. I mean,like I said, I grew up on
this set and seeing the people Iwork with every day and getting to tell
the stories that we get to tell. It's been just such a special thing
for me to be a part ofand it will always have a place in
my heart. But yeah, Ithink just seeing everyone every day, and

you know, we've been through somuch together, their lives, death,
pandemics, yeah, strikes everything andabsolutely so Yeah to have that, you
know, see someone every day andthen not at all, So it's kind
of sad. It's bittersweet, butjust knowing that we left behind a legacy
and that people will like I feellike the show, even the Fosters.

You know, you can watch itnow and find a way to relate to
it. It's so topical and it'sso current even to this day. Knowing
that you know it's been able totouch lives and it will continue to do
so is just so beautiful to me. Has there been a conversation of like,
hey, listen, I know we'renot going to be seeing each other
every day, but maybe once ayear we all get together somewhere. Oh.
Absolutely, there's no way they're gettingrid of me and vice versa.

We're family at this point to saythat now. But then it's like,
dam it's been three years since Ihaven't seen it. Oh, I hope
not. We're definitely going to makea point. I hope not. If
you guys grew up together, likeyeah, oh they're sad. You're making
me sad. We're never going tosee these people. I would just say,
the most sweetest thing that a fanhas told you about Mariana that who

you know what? I think itwould have to be the fact that you
know, and one thing that reallydrew me to Mariana was that she's this
latina that is taking on a boylike a man driven career that you know,
I feel like a lot of peoplecan they saw her on their screen
and they were like, I seemyself in you. Yeah, she's a

software engineer. And I've met somany Latinas that have been inspired to do
so and get into that world,which I feel like, I'm like,
wow, this male dominated world now, like there's a bunch of Latinas like
taking it over, Like I'm herefor that. So to know that they
were a little bit of like inspirationto like get them into the software engineering
world is so cool. Your characterhelp guide them. And also, I

mean I've met people who have beeninspired to adopt because of the Fosters,
Like that's such a beautiful thing.So it's so cool. I feel like,
you know, as time passes,I'm just like inspired and there's so
many beautiful stories. My wife isin love with Good Trouble right, I
can't watch it with her. Iguess it's her time. I love it,

I get it. I'm like,all right, well I'll be in
the room. I guess I'll bein the car. But yeah, she
she she told me to tell youthat Mariana needs to get back with Evan.

Recent engagement. A lot happened fora little over ten years now, Okay,

when you have like Blancos running stufffor you you. For me, it
was one time I was like,what the heck? This is different,

hope to only do that. AndI think with this series and like it
being the final season, like fromthe beginning of like Good Trouble to now,
like I'm pretty sure like there wassome like nervousness of like, you
know Mariana and having her like thiswhole show will be about, you know,
absolute storyline and where she's gonna go. Now, what's the biggest I

guess difference now from the very beginningto the very end of you personally and
how you took on Mariana. Oh, that's a great question. My goodness,
you know what. I think it'sbeen really, like I said before,
I really have grown up alongside her, and there have been moments where

I'm like I've really learned from her. And I don't know if at this
point like I am her or she'sme. It's interesting, like there's a
really gray area. But something Ithink that I will take with myself is
just the way that she is,Like she she gets it. She goes
into a room and and you know, people can tell her no, but
she will prove them wrong. Andshe definitely is a believer that like,

you know, I deserve to behere and I deserve to take up space,
So I think for me, yeah, just becoming comfortable with that sure,
just because of the way that shealways has been is how I'm different.
Like, I'm like, I'm goingto take a lot of her qualities
with me later in my life.That's great, yo, you know it's
it's fun and it's love and you'reworking with your friends. Right, But

there are challenges obviously, right,just like in anything, right, what
are some challenges that you had toovercome or that you met? My goodness,
I'm like, it's all been great, It's all been really wonderful.
I'm like, I'm just thinking aboutlike I'm like, i mean, like,
it takes a lot of time tofilm an episode, and there's a
lot of waiting, a lot ofwaiting, long hours. You miss a

lot of like right, and Ifeel like it's it's you can miss out
on like you know, I've missedout on people's weddings and you know,
important moments and you know it's likeyou have to kind of think about it,
take a step back. You're like, Okay, this is my job,
my career. Thankfully, I havereally wonderful people around me who are
always super understanding. But you know, it is it is hard to miss
out on things, but it's allfor a purpose. I love what I

do and I'm so thankful for it. Sure, what's your goal? Oh
my goodness, do you want anOscar? I mean that would be from
your lips to God's years. Thatwould be amazing he is today. Hopefully
it works not but yeah, Imean that's that's like the pinnacle, right.

Oh, absolutely, that's what everyonehopes for. But I just hope
to keep taking on roles that getconversations started. And you know, again,
I think like it's kind of beena common thing that I've been talking
about, getting, you know,in, put in rooms that you deserve,
you know, to be in,and and paving a way for people
and telling our stories because they deserveto be told. So I think that's

what I want to move forward.I want to hopefully direct more so I
can help push those stories. Butyeah, I'm just excited for the future.
Can you see yourself taking on achallenging role where you have to almost
be method about it and live thatcharacter. Absolutely, those are the roles
that I admire the most that I'mlike, oh my gosh, they they
had to gain a bunch of weight, like, look, they look totally

different and like, you know,aren't afraid of like looking beautiful. Like
I feel like those are the actors. Is that I just I admire so
much Jim Carrie did that? Yeah, so many others right where even when
the cameras are off, there's stillthat character exacts service. Yeah, that's
the whole thing. Yeah, that'sthat's Yeah. I've never been Phoenix,
did it is? Yeah, it'spretty wild. I've never had to be
