Speaker 1 (00:00):
And what's up is Mike ak Killer. Mike, you're checking
out the Cruise podcast. Make sure you subscribe, write and share.
Welcome back to it. It's the Cruise Show Podcast. Jeff
g along with Cruise and Jackie. Thank you guys for
joining us and let's talk about it. Kendrick Lamar super
Bowl to me one of the best performances I think
I've ever seen, just because of the way it was

(00:20):
done and what was said.

Speaker 2 (00:22):
I think it was the greatest super Bowl performance of
all time. Yeah, I'm calling I'm calling it. Yes, and
think about it.

Speaker 3 (00:28):
Michael Jackson has performed top five for sure.

Speaker 1 (00:31):
Okay, I mean I agree with you, Cruse. And the
reason I say that is because he was not scared
for political messages, was not scared to absolutely fucking destroy
someone's career.

Speaker 3 (00:42):
In the building.

Speaker 1 (00:44):
Yeah, I mean I think that the symbolism and all
the things, all the little subtleties, if you missed them,
that's your fellow, bro. No, Yeah, you know, it was
really your thought out and well done Coarseia.

Speaker 3 (00:54):
You're right, absolutely right.

Speaker 2 (00:55):
Hit it on the head like yeo, bro, if you
if you missed it, it went over your head. You're
congratulations you're not in the demographic anymore. It's beyond you.
It's past you. Uh, you're not cool enough to get it.
And it's bigger than one one rapper performing, by the way,
the first solo rapper to ever do it right, yeah,
in Super Bowl history. But it's bigger than that, and

(01:17):
you missed the message and unfortunately it's just not It's
not about you anymore.

Speaker 4 (01:23):
Honestly, the person I was really surprised that was Samuel Jackson,
Like that was awesome, like being a part of it.
I was like, Yo, what the heck? He popped up
on my screen. I was like, oh my god, he's
about a curse.

Speaker 1 (01:32):
It looked like a movie.

Speaker 2 (01:34):
Yeah, so well done. You're right, jack, I was waiting
for a motherfucker real fashion.

Speaker 1 (01:37):
Yeah. No, literally, I was hoping. I was hoping, mother
but you know what I mean. Yeah, it just was
so well done. And like you know how he's like, yeah,
more ghetto more like just the subtle cultural things that
were infused into that performance were just so well done.
Because no one has ever had the guts, you know,
everyone does what everybody expects him to. Dorgeous if it's

(01:59):
j you know, Shikida dance look hot pyroist. Yeah, you know,
play your hits that day's old. Yeah, like the fact
that this dude had the balls to inject political messages
in the balls to you know, not performance hits, by
the way, I would have bet you a million dollars

(02:19):
that I don't have, by the way, that he wouldn't
have performed Peekaboo, but he performed peable crazy. That's crazy,
and then not one this song to this song. Yeah,
you know. So it's like that he just he stayed
true to what he is and he stayed true to
the moment, which is him absolutely fucking destroying CA I think.

Speaker 3 (02:37):
And he kept true to storytelling right from the beginning.

Speaker 2 (02:40):
You know, it was a bit of a slow ramp
up and then he just gave us the ending we
all wanted.

Speaker 3 (02:46):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (02:46):
I think he very much honored like just West Coast
in general too. Aside from all like representing l A,
he also incorporated like the Hiphi movement when there was
just like they were going down, like they were going
like everyone was wearing girls like I love it, and
just everything that he does, like he was literally calling
out a revolution and like when people like when you

(03:08):
your reaction to him saying like, oh, this is a revolution,
and but you picked the wrong guy. Everyone just knew
he's about to like right, the.

Speaker 2 (03:17):
Wrong guy and the Grand National, the g NX. The
car on stage, I love how there was hell of
people in it. I mean that car is a black
and brown.

Speaker 1 (03:26):
Uh state bar.

Speaker 3 (03:27):
It's a staple, so with that many people in it
makes sense.

Speaker 4 (03:29):
Not only that, Yeah, the people people kept coming out.
I was like, Yo, there's hell of Mexicans in this car.

Speaker 3 (03:34):
Probably I read that they gutted it out right, so.

Speaker 4 (03:37):
Cut it out, which is crazy to think about because
the gn X is just like, that's expensive one.

Speaker 3 (03:43):
Thousand dollars car.

Speaker 1 (03:44):
I think, Yeah, I'm sure that they came through a
door in the bottom and then like a ladder and just.

Speaker 3 (03:48):
I don't know who knows crazy, but I mean.

Speaker 1 (03:52):
Every detail from the area of view, it looks like
a PlayStation controllers a game that was in the game
over at the end, like it read white and blue
like blue. Two of his exes on stage, Yeah, it's
actually very true.

Speaker 3 (04:07):
Was insane.

Speaker 4 (04:09):
B Yeah.

Speaker 1 (04:09):
Crazy.

Speaker 4 (04:10):
She even said She's like I didn't even quip cuiprock
crip walk like that Wimbledon.

Speaker 1 (04:16):
She got in trouble for that back in the Yeah,
she said she.

Speaker 4 (04:18):
I would have been fine if I did it the
way I did it at the super Bowl.

Speaker 3 (04:21):
Yeah, she from Compton. It makes sense.

Speaker 1 (04:23):
I mean, you know, that's why I agree with the cruise.
I think it's the best performance ever just because of
all the detail that went into it.

Speaker 3 (04:30):
You know.

Speaker 1 (04:30):
Yeah, you could be mad that he didn't perform Money
Trees or Mad City or whatever over it, but this
isn't a concert. Yeah, this is twelve minutes of an
opportunity to grab one hundred and twenty million people's attention,
right like, and and he did, and to me, he did,
you know. And I saw a lot of the comments too,
and you know, we saw what was academic stuff or

(04:51):
you know, and who was it Joe Biden that said
that they didn't appreciate the playlist.

Speaker 3 (04:56):
Or right now, well, bro, then then listen to it
on your own.

Speaker 4 (05:00):
Yeah, like you could go ahead and play that album
like on repeat on your own time. And because the
meaning was yes, he's the super Bowl halftime performer, but
there was such more to that, like the dancers being
in the formation of the American flag and it's.

Speaker 1 (05:14):
All black, like a black uncle Sam and a black.

Speaker 4 (05:17):
Uncle Sam, Like that's right, yeah, dude, And he did
that in front of the current president. And if you
don't understand any of that symbolism watching it, then you
are a part of the problem.

Speaker 2 (05:27):
Yeah, And it's not for you. You are part of
the problem, that's right, Jackie. And it's not for you.
And you're just not cool enough to understand.

Speaker 3 (05:35):
Sorry.

Speaker 2 (05:35):
I hate to be that guy because I was never
in like the cool I was never part of the
cool kids like that.

Speaker 4 (05:40):
But like, it's just not not even just cool, I think,
not even smart enough to understand.

Speaker 1 (05:45):
Well yeah, or you know, not tapped in, you know.
I mean, that's the bottom line. And for him to
live in a bubble, for him to be brave enough
to to do a set for himself, for the culture
and for his core fans and not just the rest
of America, like he bade sickly said, look at I'm
not trying to grab people in Kansas to jump on
the k Dot train. I'm doing this for all the

(06:05):
day once. Yeah, and if you know what I mean,
if you don't like it, that's on you. Yeah, So
I thought I was just what that was awesome.

Speaker 2 (06:11):
If you're still complaining that Wayne should have did it.
That you're just complaining to complain. Yeah, you are that
kind of person. You're that person, and.

Speaker 1 (06:19):
You're the dick in the comments.

Speaker 2 (06:20):
Yeah, and it's just like yo, bro, like there's a
reason why that didn't happen, and uh, probably for good reason.

Speaker 1 (06:27):
Yeah, I agree. I agree with you, Cruz like it.
I'm not a cool person either by any stretch, But
I just appreciate the the detail that went into the work.
And I just applaud the detail that went into the work.
You know, and some of us are smarter than any
of you. This is just our opinion.

Speaker 2 (06:42):
Yeah, I'm saying, yeah, better than you or smarter than
you in no way, but like in our opinion, and
we saw what everyone else saw, right, and we appreciate it.

Speaker 1 (06:51):
Maybe a little bias because we're from La. Yeah, that's
why I waited for the comments right here. Oh quit
dick sucking, Kendrick, you know what I mean. But it's
not it's just appreciation. It would have been any artist.
I don't care who it was. But if someone put
this much work into the performance for whatever it was,
twelve minutes, then I'm gonna put and I'm.

Speaker 4 (07:05):
Gonna be honest, I don't think there would be any
artists who would have put this much effort into storytelling
if it wasn't Kendrick.

Speaker 2 (07:11):
That's he has a story to tell and he has
the creativity. And by the way, listen, Kendrick is not
alone on this right, Like he's got a team or
he's got day Free and he's got you know, we
we don't know, right, but Kendrick is as smart and
as brilliant as the people he has around.

Speaker 1 (07:30):
Him, and hopefully has smarter people around him, because that's
always processed too.

Speaker 3 (07:34):
You can to see Mustard out there too much.

Speaker 1 (07:36):
I was happy having.

Speaker 3 (07:38):
The time of his life.

Speaker 4 (07:39):
He was just happy to be their vibes happy.

Speaker 3 (07:42):
I'm here to support my friend Kendrick.

Speaker 4 (07:43):
And you know what's cool is I was going to
say that I was going to bring up Mustard and
how Kendrick very much puts people on and he did
asy Chike's verse, you know, and there was a reaction
video that asy Hike was just like yo, like I'm
happy that he just did my verse, Like I don't
have to be there because I know that this is
much bigger than me being a part of this.

Speaker 3 (08:02):
Yeah, See that's the thing.

Speaker 2 (08:03):
This performance was bigger than we know and bigger than
what anyone can either can can comprehend even at the moment, right, Like,
this is a performance that we'll be talking about for
many years to come and dissecting for many years to come.

Speaker 1 (08:17):
Yeah, that's and that just shows the great lengths he went.
You know, if we got to sit here and break
every piece down like this, that means you know, it
was detailed. Like I said, not to disparage to any
of the other people that can before him, but you know,
some people just go up there and perform their hits
and keep it pushing, and yeah they'll do maybe an
old while factor with the guest or some kind of
you know, mechanical thing where they're floating or this and that,

(08:37):
but which again awesome, right, But to be able to
put this many layers of thought into it. The smile
into the camera was broken. The death followed. It does
the death nail?

Speaker 2 (08:50):
You know, oh yo, bro and listen and yeah that
was petty, right, Yeah, that was pepper.

Speaker 3 (08:58):
That was super duper petty and it a moment.

Speaker 2 (09:00):
But still this performance was even bigger than that moment.

Speaker 3 (09:04):
Yeah, bigger than the beef.

Speaker 2 (09:05):
This moment was the beef is just I think a
blip in what he did at that show.

Speaker 4 (09:11):
Yeah, like Kendrick has inspired me to be like really petty.

Speaker 2 (09:15):
Like I don't know if you can get much more,
Like saying Kendrick makes you realize that you have a
higher petty level than you think.

Speaker 4 (09:22):
Yeah, Like I see that on the internet all the time,
where it's like Kendrick makes me realize that I'm not
hating to my full potential. And that is so true,
like iiring in so many ways.

Speaker 2 (09:34):
Yeah, well it's not necessarily hating on others. Is just
loving yourself more.

Speaker 4 (09:38):
Yeah that part right, that part.

Speaker 1 (09:40):
And in this case pointing out all the things that
he said in the wraps, And that's the thing is like,
you know, he did what everybody thought he wouldn't do.
Everyone's worried about the this song. He didn't do just one.
He did two. You know what I mean? What do
you say Drake's name? Did you know what I mean?
And I love that when he teased it. That's such
like a classic like a concert thing like if you've
seen old school rockers or anything, they'll play like a

(10:02):
little bit of a riff of a song and then
everyone to get all excited and they won't perform it
till like the end of the show, or not perform
it at all. And when he did that little piece
of not Like Us, it was so good because everyone nuts.
And then he just waited and then did some more
songs like just Genius bro like Genius on top of genius.
Good stuff.

Speaker 3 (10:16):
Man.

Speaker 2 (10:17):
Yeah, that performance again was history in the making. We
watched history. And I believe Kendrick at that super Bowl
he made hip hop the most loved and the most
hated genre and for that I applaud him.

Speaker 1 (10:32):
Yep, yeah, Jackie. Let's talk about his fit because it's yeah.
Its fit seemed to be the talk of the internet
as well.

Speaker 3 (10:39):
Are those fitted jeans?

Speaker 4 (10:41):
Oh yeah, they're Flair jeans. They're bell bottom jeans. Yeah.
And like he looked like a short king and I
love that for him. He did look like a short king.
But Kendrick has a style that like, Kendrick can rock
like not many people can rock bell bottom like Flaire jeans,
especially skinny one is at that, like I think and

(11:03):
I'm correct me if I'm wrong, that was the the
same jacket or if not close to the same jacket
in the Not Like Us video.

Speaker 1 (11:09):
Yeah, it was a custom pg lang one. I forgot
the designer I don't know much about.

Speaker 4 (11:13):
Yeah, and even Sizza's outfit too, Born and Raised designed
that for her custom for her. She looked, she looked amazing,
Like I just think everything that like Kendrick were Where's
also pushes the limit a little bit, because yes, you
think of Kendrick and you think of this like street dude,
you think a hood dude, you think a rapper, and
you're just like, oh, he's gonna be baggy, he's gonna

(11:34):
be this, he's gonna be that. But you see him
in like flair jeans and you're like, wait a second,
what And it's very tasteful.

Speaker 1 (11:42):
Yeah, but he was in Flair jeans showing up his
moose nook.

Speaker 3 (11:45):
Right, I know, right down to the chains too.

Speaker 2 (11:49):
I mean it doesn't look too gaudy, it doesn't look
like too rappery, right like nah, like yo, Like the
chains made sense to a for a minor and pg
Lang was crazy.

Speaker 3 (12:00):
Somebody said, la hat I love that.

Speaker 4 (12:02):
Somebody said in the comments they were like, I like
how Kendrick just destroyed a man's career and like basically
did the beef of the Century and the diss of
the century all while looking like a cute cinnamon button
what because of his style? And I was just like, right,
because you look at Kendrick when he smiles, and he
just looks so like nice and innocent, and you're just like,

(12:24):
but this dude can murder.

Speaker 3 (12:25):
You if you read.

Speaker 2 (12:26):
Yeah, he looks like it's no harm. Right, he got
that like that boyish smile. But nah, don't play with him.
But that's what he said. It's a sport, you know
what he was saying in this preview. The shoes had
a lot of people because I was after my son.
I was like, Yo, what are those?

Speaker 1 (12:39):
And then at first I thought they were the shacks,
remember the old rebox shacks that had those kind of
white white But they weren't theamn. They were like up
tempo something or something. I'll look them up. But now
another rare shoe that only Kendrick seems to wear, you know.
But I loved it, man, I loved everything about it.
I thought it was amazing. Should we talk about the dude?

(13:00):
So the guy that ran across with the Palestinian flag, Yeah,
was one of the performers I didn't know that. I
didn't know that this morning he was part of the
he was one of the performers on the field, and
that's how he was able to get that kind of accessibility.

Speaker 2 (13:15):
Oh okay, No, wonder if people were walking by him
and not realizing what he was doing.

Speaker 4 (13:21):
Yeah, I didn't know he was at first.

Speaker 2 (13:23):
I thought he jumped the rail and got on me
too field And I didn't even notice at first.

Speaker 1 (13:27):
My son was the one who saw at first.

Speaker 3 (13:28):
I didn't see him too. I didn't see him until
I got on the GRAM. That's what. I didn't even
notice that.

Speaker 2 (13:34):
But apparently he's been banned from all events and stadium
all stadiums.

Speaker 1 (13:38):
WHOA, all right, circle back to the shoes. They are
Dion Sanders classic Nike sneakers. They are the DT Max
ninety six's they were made for.

Speaker 2 (13:46):
So even then, is there a message there could be
because if Dion Sanders.

Speaker 4 (13:51):
I, oh, no, somebody's gonna find out some type of.

Speaker 2 (13:54):
There's so much. There's so much, That's what I want
to ask Kendrick. Like one of my first questions if
we ever get the interview McGain and I'm like, yo,
what did we miss with exactly because we've talked about
every single thing, but there's got to be something we missed.

Speaker 4 (14:10):
Or imagine, Like we ask them like, how like accurate
is Everyone's like yeah, take take yeah, right on every symbolism. Yeah,
like can imagine you're like, honestly, you guys are like
sixty percent right on everything.

Speaker 2 (14:24):
Because I'm watching the performance again and I'm just trying
to find anything. I'm looking for stuff, and then what
happens is you start looking for things and wondering, wait,
does that mean this?

Speaker 3 (14:33):
Does this mean this? Does this mean that?

Speaker 1 (14:35):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (14:35):
Just like yeah, okay, hold on.

Speaker 4 (14:37):
Did anybody wonder that at some point during the during
the performance the prison yard that they were in, like,
there was people up on the light post and I
was like, how did they get up there? Because there
was no way to get up there unless like, yeah, maybe.

Speaker 3 (14:51):
Like through like a truck with a ladder or something.
I don't know. Yeah, they were like the.

Speaker 4 (14:55):
Whole performance, because I don't think they were there the
whole performance. And then I just saw like four people
on top of the light posts. I was like, when
did they get up there?

Speaker 2 (15:03):
And they only have what like six minutes to put
up Yeah, it was it's a little bit longer this.

Speaker 1 (15:10):
Yeah, they set up two segments with the with the
football analysts before and then he was ready. That's right,
that's right. Yeah, it was good.

Speaker 4 (15:18):
Gronk, what happened?

Speaker 3 (15:19):
What do you say?

Speaker 4 (15:20):
He just talks too much.

Speaker 1 (15:21):
It's a lot.

Speaker 3 (15:22):
Yeah, he just in my opinion, it's a fun guy.

Speaker 1 (15:24):
Jack.

Speaker 4 (15:25):
He I'm not gonna say it.

Speaker 3 (15:26):
He's not gonna say it.

Speaker 1 (15:27):
I'm not gonna say it.

Speaker 3 (15:28):
I'm not going to say what I want to say.

Speaker 4 (15:29):
I'm not going to say what I want to say.

Speaker 1 (15:32):
No, let him be, let him, let him be the
vibe guy.

Speaker 4 (15:35):
He's just like the the like I get it, I know.

Speaker 3 (15:39):
The higher that like.

Speaker 4 (15:41):
You know, he just we got to put him in.
But another thing that I don't want to say, we
got to put him in.

Speaker 1 (15:47):
Now you're reaching your full hating potential. By the end
