The hustle away. Believe it?

Speaker 2 (00:24):
You know you just came from marathon Burger? Did Nico
Blitz is starving? My Jesus is crazy?

Speaker 1 (00:33):
Other gas?

Speaker 4 (00:34):
Marathon gas?

Speaker 5 (00:35):

Speaker 1 (00:36):
Thank you so much.

Speaker 6 (00:37):
You have to, or you can just take the easy

Speaker 1 (00:42):
It ain't that far open late too, bro to yuh
Hey man VIP, thank you for joining us. Man.

Speaker 2 (00:50):
Have you seen the metro tap cards yet? Have you
physically seen them?

Speaker 6 (00:53):
I've not seen them. This is your first seen them online? Okay,
that's it, Jackie Rmirs all right.

Speaker 5 (00:57):
I got them for you. I'll give it to you
one by one. All right. So here's the first.

Speaker 4 (01:02):
One classic iconic photo Hustle.

Speaker 6 (01:04):
You'll find this photo at Marathon burger yup right right on.

Speaker 4 (01:08):
One of the biggest walls on the inside, so it's
only right, this is hard.

Speaker 5 (01:12):
I love that one, but this one got to be
my favorite.

Speaker 6 (01:15):
Yeah, just because he's in the bus right. It's a
real menaginary right placement.

Speaker 2 (01:19):
Yo, you know, we were thinking so the video dropped
right of him talking about the La Metro and taking
it right. But obviously they filmed that very early on, right,
were they planning on doing something or was that just
like a passion thing for Hustle.

Speaker 6 (01:34):
From what I understand, that was around the time that
they were doing the destination in Crenshaw Line.

Speaker 4 (01:39):
Oh Jeff, what was the line?

Speaker 1 (01:41):
K line?

Speaker 6 (01:42):
So when they were doing that and getting it to
have a stop right there Crenshaw and Slosson, he was
very much a part of facilitating some of the infrastructure,
the architecture, artists, just different things of that nature. Is
really employing whatever resources he could. So it was like
true to the area.

Speaker 2 (01:59):
Okay, that was dope. Man, I'm glad we found Garcia
found it and we posted it. We're like, now we're
posting that up now.

Speaker 5 (02:06):
You know, it's crazy. It only had like thirty three
views at the time.

Speaker 4 (02:08):
But like I think thirty three is crazy.

Speaker 6 (02:10):
By the way, why because he passed away when he
was thirty three years.

Speaker 1 (02:15):
Right, we didn't even put to it together.

Speaker 6 (02:19):
What the hell?

Speaker 1 (02:19):
It's always liked that when that energy is always there. Man,
it's a beautiful thing.

Speaker 3 (02:23):
And it's been so so it's been seven years.

Speaker 5 (02:26):
Damn that's crazy. But like that's the thing too, is that,
like I don't think people realize like whether it's a
new the new generation, they don't realize how like tapped
in Nipsey was into creating a like safer space for
the community too, like that anytime, Like the guys have
had the pleasure of meeting him, and like me, like
I never had the pleasure, but hearing them talk about

(02:49):
how he was as a person different, it's just like
you can just feel the passion of his passion through
other people.

Speaker 6 (02:57):
Yeah, I mean we've all worked around artists, right, and
some times come with egos and stuff. And I've seen
him talk to the janitor the same way as he
talks to the CEO, you know, and he just always
treated people with respect and just had this energy, this
aura to him that like even if things were stressful,
he managed to like kind of pivot from the stress

(03:17):
and make it fun.

Speaker 1 (03:18):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (03:18):
You know, like every morning, just yelling respect and the
respect as loud as you could in the hotel lobbies,
just to like wake our game up and let us know,
like it's time to lock in, even if we only
slept for thirty minutes, you know, just came home from
the after party. Whenever done a show, been on the
road forever long, he always managed to find a way
to help us facilitate our energy through him. Yeah, because

(03:40):
he was always so demanding of what he did, I
think it just made us demand more of ourselves.

Speaker 1 (03:44):
Bro.

Speaker 2 (03:44):
Yeah, but you know what I respect, bro that every
time I speak to a member of his team like
yourself and you know, shout out to the team, it
feels as if you're speaking with Nick.

Speaker 1 (03:54):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (03:54):
He I don't know.

Speaker 6 (03:56):
My life changed when I came around him, And it
wasn't because the opportunities. It was like the mind state
put me in the marathon mindset, and a lot of
people in our generation are very focused on short term goals,
and he just told us look towards the long term
when I got brought in, they had a six month,
a twelve month, and an eighteen month roadmap that was
already put together, and part of that at the time

(04:17):
in two thousand and ah Man, I think it was
like two thousand and twelve or thirteen included the documentary
Victory Lap, because he originally announced Victory Lap I want
to say, December of twenty fourteen or something, or twenty thirteen,
but then it ended up turning into Crenshaw twenty fourteen.

Speaker 4 (04:37):
So he had planned to do Victory Lap.

Speaker 6 (04:39):
I mean, there were just so many things that are
now playing out that he had in motion, you know,
or thoughts that were on paper ten years ago, you know,
five ten years ago obviously more than five, but before
he passed away five ten years ago before that. So
he was very forward thinking, and there's no way that
you could think that anything he did was quit incidental

(05:00):
if you listen to the story and the things he
talks about from like the Bullet series, all the way
through the Marathon and all the way to Victory Lap
up to this next project that we have coming out
No Pressure too, which is no summer that's going to
be dropping probably in the next two to three months.
I would say before the end of the year for sure.
And it's a Beino Rideau Nipsy Hustle collaborative project follow

(05:24):
up to No Pressure with production with my guy Mars Laurance,
Mike and Keys. How many tracks mixed by Ali? Did
the final mixes on it? Is doing the mixes right now.
We got I think fourteen or fifteen on it. Some
crazy features on there. A good portion of the work
was all done before he died.

Speaker 1 (05:46):
So these are verses we've never heard before.

Speaker 4 (05:49):
Most people haven't.

Speaker 6 (05:50):
If you're a real crazy Nipsy fan, you've might been
able to dig through YouTube and find some really poor
quality versions of these. But these have been completely like
not Flip, but they add layers to a production to him.
We never lost our masters, so we always.

Speaker 4 (06:06):
Had the good qualities.

Speaker 6 (06:07):
It's just what got leaked was a lesser quality unfinished
version of the song wow.

Speaker 3 (06:12):
And how early was like Beino on these records? Were
these like Beno like uh? Or these Beno versus from
like before? Are these like fresh ones?

Speaker 6 (06:23):
So I would say about I would say eighty ninety
percent of the songs were all cut and like pretty
much done before nip died. Wow, So this project was
not fully mixed and mastered, but it was not far
from delivery before he died, Like it was, we were
already like a year in a rolling out victory lap.

(06:44):
So it was kind of like, all right, we need
to start coming with some new stuff. And this had
like a little bit more of an up tempo, upbeat vibe.
That's why it's called all Summer. Once you hear it,
you'll be like, Okay, this is a different bag for Nipsey.
But also what he's talking about sounds like old nip
if that makes sense, Like if you live to nip Heavy,
you'll know that. Like his bars, almost the way he's

(07:04):
doing his deliveries, it's like an old knit but it
has you know, twenty twenty five production on it.

Speaker 3 (07:09):
Yeah, man, Yeah, that's tight, Like he kind of it's
already given me this idea that like it feels fresh
with the production, but it's nostalgic with the way that.

Speaker 4 (07:17):
He's one hundred percent.

Speaker 2 (07:18):
Yeah, I think that's the way to do it because
it reminds the fans what it is and what it was.

Speaker 6 (07:24):
Yeah, you know, and that's nips never really strayed from
like too much sonically.

Speaker 4 (07:29):
One thing that he's always.

Speaker 6 (07:30):
Loved is having his his vocals like very compressed. He
always loved that, like rough compression. And there was like
that area where we had to tell him like, look, bro,
you're you're elevating.

Speaker 4 (07:40):
We can't you.

Speaker 6 (07:41):
Rick Ross vocals don't sound like this and Kendrick vocals
don't you know, sound like this. So at the time,
it was hard for him because he thought that was
a part of like his brand and his style. So
we had to get him to like, look, if we
want Victory Lap to be Grammy Award winning, it can't sound.

Speaker 4 (07:56):
You know, like mixtape quality stuff.

Speaker 6 (07:58):
So he had to give a little bit, but still
key the sonic like architecture that he built around his brand.

Speaker 1 (08:04):
Yeah, one of the.

Speaker 4 (08:15):
Yes Wi fi.

Speaker 1 (08:17):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (08:17):
And when you listen to this new project, it's crazy
the outros that are on it, like all the instrumentation,
all the layers that got put on it sounds really
really dope. And it's been in the mix or you know,
in the makings for almost like seven or eight years.
Most of the songs got tracked out when they were
mixing and mastering Victory Lap at Paramount, So all those

(08:39):
pictures you see where nip was posted up at the
studio like laid on the couch or laid on the
floor for like a month or two months, and they
were cutting finishing Victory Lap in between time most of
this project got cut.

Speaker 1 (08:52):
It was getting done right then and.

Speaker 6 (08:54):
There, so you know nip he was working on a
project as he was finishing another one.

Speaker 5 (08:58):
Always, yeah, it's always think that because like us, like
as fans and as like people who just enjoy music,
we never really know how much an artist is really
working like that, Like like I mean example, like so
like just so many other artists, like they're on tour,
they're creating something already, They're they're constantly doing things that.

Speaker 1 (09:19):
No one knows what, staying ahead.

Speaker 3 (09:20):
Yeah, yeah, And sometimes you just think that it's very
like chronological, right, Like it's very just like ABC, I
drop an album, I go on tour.

Speaker 1 (09:30):
It's kind of scattered, right Yeah.

Speaker 6 (09:31):
But for especially for someone like Nipsey, he had songs
that were on Victory Lap that were recorded during marathon
days like yet and they're to the side songs like
even on Sloss and Boy two, there's Ocean Views that
could have easily been a Victory Lap album song, but
it made it onto that project. That was something that

(09:53):
was recorded a long time ago. Some of these songs
have whole different beats, like I'll play you guys some
stuff that I might have, like We're Dedication has a
whole different being a dedication with a third verse you
haven't heard, right, right.

Speaker 4 (10:05):
Right right, I'll run it tomorrow.

Speaker 6 (10:07):
By the way, the way that one panned out is
it was a three verse song or yeah, three verse
with Nip and then Kendrick got on it. They moved
the second verse of Nipsey to the third, put Kendrick
in the middle, and then bumped the third verse of dedication.
It did make its way onto a song it's called

(10:27):
Memories with Maroon five and YG and Nipsey. The remix
that is the dedication third verse chopped up.

Speaker 1 (10:35):
Yo, wow, that's crazy.

Speaker 2 (10:37):
And you know Kendrick, Well, Nip wanted Kendrick on another song, right,
Nip wanted him on a couple songs, oh yeh.

Speaker 1 (10:43):
Yeah, Well of course, yeah.

Speaker 6 (10:45):
But I didn't know there might have been one specifically
that he wanted. I didn't know, honestly, I didn't know which.

Speaker 1 (10:49):
One I thought I heard that, you know, for you
hear so much, right.

Speaker 4 (10:52):
Yeah, Axel helped us get that play together.

Speaker 6 (10:54):
On Axel Foley, he's one of the producers when of
the main producers are actually put together almost all of
no pressure and no pressure too. Then he brought in
la Rans, Mike and keys Mars. Yeah, and then they
did all the final posts.

Speaker 2 (11:07):
You know when I heard higher and off of Kali's joint, right,
that's where I heard a lot of Nipsey's elevation. Right
when I heard that and I saw the you see
the video, but those bars were different. That was a
different nip He was in a different space right there.

Speaker 4 (11:21):
Yeah, for sure he was.

Speaker 6 (11:23):
Right before he went, you could tell that he he's
seen some light, Like something was different with him.

Speaker 4 (11:28):
The way he walked, the way he carried himself. It's
like he was at peace.

Speaker 6 (11:33):
What do you say, I'd rather be at peace with
myself than at war with the world, like he was,
like he was finally at peace with himself. You know,
we must have just went to Charlotte two weeks before,
and this is like a super full circle moment because
one of the first times I ever went out of
town with him, we were flying southwest. Right, imagine Nipsey hustle,
like this is Nipsey with like the rough six braids.

Speaker 1 (11:56):
Yeah, yeah, we're out.

Speaker 6 (11:57):
I don't know where we went, probably like Oklahoma or something,
flying Southwest. I had the window seat and nip had
the middle seat.

Speaker 4 (12:05):
I was gonna ask, right, So I'm like, I'm like
looking at him.

Speaker 6 (12:09):
I'm like, bro, I can't let you sit in the middle,
Like I'm only on this flight right now because I'm
here with you, you know.

Speaker 4 (12:15):
So he's like, all right, bro, go ahead.

Speaker 6 (12:16):
We swap and he's like, man, we need a hundred
of show so we could fly in a jet. This
was a year or two before that song came out.
He told me that the last trip we went on
as a collective unit was All Star Weekend in Charlotte
and we flew back on the Puma jet. So that
was like crazy crazy for us because we're listening to

(12:37):
one hundred of show on a jet.

Speaker 1 (12:39):
Full circle, you know what I mean.

Speaker 6 (12:40):
Yeah, for a while, it gave me chills, And when
I like think about it, it's just wild that there's
so many moments.

Speaker 4 (12:45):
It's like that wasn't quite incidental. That was written.

Speaker 6 (12:48):
That was god like nip was a part of some
like higher connection, diveension. I don't know what it was,
but he was connected in a different and we.

Speaker 2 (12:57):
See that now, we know it now, right, and we
saw the way he was moving. But it all makes
sense now. It's crazy to know. What are you working
on right now?

Speaker 4 (13:05):
Man? You know, I've been running around with Lefty.

Speaker 1 (13:07):
You know.

Speaker 6 (13:07):
Yeah, he's getting a lot better, he's been clean. We're
getting ready to drop a project. I'm be hosting his
next album that comes out. Okay, he's healing right, Yeah,
he's doing well. Ghetto Heisman, uh htt hes. Yeah, it's
gonna be his next project. We've got some crazy features
on there, crazy features. One record you're gonna love already
know you're gonna love it. There's some features that you

(13:28):
wouldn't even expect with Lefty.

Speaker 4 (13:30):
You'd be like, wait what, But.

Speaker 6 (13:32):
Sonically it fits like the production fits the feature, and
so did left So.

Speaker 4 (13:37):
That's been going on.

Speaker 6 (13:38):
I've been working on a publishing company, just helping artists
with their publishing administration, help ingm get sink placement, stuff
like that. Something that Nit put me onto with like ownership,
and a lot of artists don't find out about these
things until they're in the position to have to like
sell it or give it up and they can't really
leverage it, you know. So I've been helping artist producers
in America and overseas with that.

Speaker 4 (13:59):
So it takes a lot of time.

Speaker 6 (14:00):
It's very data intensive, you know, but it's fun.

Speaker 4 (14:06):
Honestly.

Speaker 6 (14:06):
It's something that's helped me with all my relationships that
I've used in the industry and like from being around artists, managers,
DJs and just like bringing it full circle and helping
them out in that space because yeah, now the business
got to be right.

Speaker 1 (14:18):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (14:18):
I personally didn't want to be in the clubs too long.
I was like, the clubs ain't for me, man, I
got a baby at the house.

Speaker 2 (14:24):
To be laid up with my wife, like to be
in the club, like the ski bro right in the snow.

Speaker 1 (14:31):
Yeah yeah, or snowboard Yeah, you're in the snow. My guy, Like, Yo,
you're you know snow trip. Dog. I don't know, dog,
I'm not a snow guy.

Speaker 5 (14:42):
Dog. No, But what was it that I told you guys?
I'm like, damn, I thought that was a place in
Aspen and that's I was like that because Hella, like
everyone goes there.

Speaker 1 (14:50):
Oh, it was Aspen.

Speaker 5 (14:52):
I grew up thinking Aspen was like in Europe and
then they're like, no, it's like Colorados.

Speaker 3 (14:56):
Orth.

Speaker 5 (14:57):
I had no clue.

Speaker 1 (14:58):
We got no business going up there.

Speaker 6 (15:00):
No, you guys would have a good time. You're like,
take you out of your element. Yeah, a lot different
than Burbank, different from the.

Speaker 3 (15:08):
So you go to like Lake Tahoe or something.

Speaker 4 (15:10):
I go everywhere.

Speaker 1 (15:11):
Bro, I have him in a bro Yeah.

Speaker 6 (15:13):
Ao, We've gone to where Utah, Colorado, Crazy, Washington.

Speaker 4 (15:22):
We go to Mammoth all the time, Big Bear, Like,
We'll go anywhere.

Speaker 1 (15:25):
You know.

Speaker 4 (15:26):
We're storm chasing.

Speaker 6 (15:27):
At one point, like during COVID, we were just like
watching the radar maps and like, oh, there's going to
be a storm over here in three days, let's go,
and we would just take off.

Speaker 1 (15:34):
And go different.

Speaker 5 (15:37):
I was scared, But I love this snow.

Speaker 4 (15:39):
I love the cold.

Speaker 5 (15:40):
I'd rather I prefer the cold over the heat any day.

Speaker 6 (15:42):
Ao was the only person I knew that was down
to go like at a whim. And now I don't
have anyone to go with because he's in Miami. So
for him to get on the mountain is impossible because
at least like even mammoth.

Speaker 4 (15:53):
I could just go be there in four hours, five
hours right, drive out there real quick. He has to
do the flight, go from La X to do a
whole getting in the rein.

Speaker 1 (16:01):
It's a whole thing.

Speaker 4 (16:02):
It's also a ten twelve hour situation for him.

Speaker 1 (16:05):
Yeah, thats a lot of hassle.

Speaker 2 (16:07):
It's a lot of hassle. He's busy too, lot going on.
You busy as well, man, You just got here from
Marathon Burger. We see Marathon Burger popping up right in
Marathon clothing as well. And I thought I heard Black
Sam mentioned Marathon Taco on the way.

Speaker 6 (16:22):
They talked about it. They're talking about Marathon Steakhouse. I guess, yeah, that's.

Speaker 1 (16:26):
Something I heard today too.

Speaker 4 (16:28):
So I mean, there's there's the marathon brand.

Speaker 6 (16:32):
Just like the marathon is endless, right, there's no end
to it, so we can touch, you know, whatever makes
sense with what Nip had aligned. A lot of this
stuff is just continuing Nip's legacy, you know, and just
extensions of what he already had going. We have the
dispensary in Kinnoga Park. The rooftop is open for private
shopping experience. The actual retail store on Melrose should be

(16:55):
opening sometime soon. All these activations are just like culminating
the documentary, the was It, the compilation album. There's just
a lot of stuff that's going on. Like if you
were to go see the whiteboard in the office, it's
just like just stuff everywhere. It's insane amount of product events.

(17:15):
Like they just had a thing at Venice with C
four the Energy, So there's like and when Marathon Berger
first opened, it was the SpongeBob Burger. That was like
the first thing they did was with Nickelodeon. They did
a Nickelodeon Clouds.

Speaker 1 (17:30):
Crazy. Yeah, that's crazy, yo. What'd you learn from Nip personally?

Speaker 4 (17:35):
Oh? Man, Nip.

Speaker 6 (17:39):
Not to let anyone undervalue you, Like, don't let anyone
tell you you're not what you know you are, Like
know you're worth as ask for two or three times
more than it, and just never quit, like always bet
on yourself. You know, you know what you're capable of,
So like, you know, be real with yourself and something

(18:00):
might be uphill battles, but like we're capable of anything
if we put our mind to it. It was very
crucial today to hear but like seeing what he did
coming from where he came from, and all the people
that he was able to help out, not just from
his community, but other communities. Going places and hearing people
tell stories of how they were homeless and his music

(18:22):
helped drive them to go to school, become a lawyer,
start throwing firm, just things you wouldn't expect. We're hearing
this from people like at shows and meet and greets
and stuff, and people following up with us, and you
see that they're doing well, and their testament is Nipsey,
his music and just the idea of a marathon never
given up.

Speaker 1 (18:41):
You know.

Speaker 2 (18:41):
What nip did I thought was genius two is you know,
and he mentions it in the music too. I didn't
need radio to do mine. I did fine, right, Like
I thought that was brilliant of him to say, because
although he respected radio, he also respected his hustle and knew.

Speaker 1 (18:53):
His ability and was very aware of his ability, you
know what I mean. But like radio came to him, Yeah.

Speaker 6 (18:58):
For sure, he had what you wouldn't consider like conventional
radio music, you know, And towards the end it was
a little bit more commercial and it fit that mold.
But a lot of his music wasn't that, So it
wasn't like he was trying to cater to radio, but
he obviously valued you guys because you know, once it
made sense and everybody was around us, he embraced everybody,
just like you guys embraced us.

Speaker 1 (19:21):
We had no choice, man, you know for sure? What
up Garcia? Oh?

Speaker 2 (19:24):
No, try about that? Yeah, I remember, you know, speaking
of Garcia. Yeah, there was him and Yg We're talking
about FDT, right and how radio should support it, and
you know they were they were speaking very uh you know,
they're being very very proud of what they did, right, uh.
And they were speaking to that and I think we Garcia?
You text him what at five am?

Speaker 1 (19:44):
We were doing mornings?

Speaker 4 (19:45):
Yeah, and he answered and goes.

Speaker 1 (19:48):
And we're alive on the air, wouldn't it explain his.

Speaker 2 (19:50):
Position and let us know that he didn't disrespect us,
but he just wanted to understand why we weren't things
quicker m And he was just like, nah, I already
know like y'all my comrades, you know what I mean.
And he was like, it's all good. And I might
have I might have spoke a little a little too soon,
you know, And he was very just very genuine about it.

(20:12):
You know, and he was a man about it. Yeah,
at the end of the day.

Speaker 6 (20:15):
