Night and Uli La is in the building.
Speaker 4 (00:21):
Let's go.
Speaker 1 (00:24):
Good to meet you guys. Good vibes already, we're here, man.
Speaker 3 (00:27):
I heard about the the twelve eggs and a pound
of meat snack on set.
Speaker 1 (00:32):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, what we're doing.
Speaker 4 (00:34):
I was waiting for it. I didn't see it out here.
Speaker 1 (00:36):
But Jackie, where are the eggs?
Speaker 4 (00:40):
Dude?
Speaker 2 (00:40):
Eggs are expensive as.
Speaker 1 (00:44):
You bring a little selfish dog. That's crazy.
Speaker 4 (00:49):
That's why we're not coming back for season two.
Speaker 1 (00:57):
He's been eating the budget.
Speaker 3 (00:59):
Yo.
Speaker 1 (00:59):
So well.
Speaker 3 (01:00):
The series countdown crazy, right, It's full of suspense. There's murder,
there's you know, there's a plot to kill Los Angeles
as a whole.
Speaker 1 (01:07):
Right, this is intense.
Speaker 3 (01:09):
I read that you guys did like some gun training
before right together as a crew or during.
Speaker 5 (01:14):
It was a bit like kind of before but then afterwards, Yeah,
we went for it was a weekend right while we
were filming.
Speaker 4 (01:20):
Yeah, yeah, and we went and never shot a gun.
Speaker 1 (01:22):
What does that feel like?
Speaker 4 (01:23):
Dude? I hadn't either, Yeah, both of us hadn't.
Speaker 1 (01:25):
Yeah, you hadn't either. So were you scared to do it?
Or was it like scared?
Speaker 4 (01:30):
But I guess, like, you know, you become aware that
you know, this little action can cause a lot of damage,
so you know, you're very heightened, you're in a heightened state,
and you're very cautious about what you're doing, which is
how you should probably should be. But it was a
lot of fun. There's a lot of moving targets in
the range and that kind of thing. So we we
(01:51):
gotta we got our practicing.
Speaker 1 (01:52):
Yeah, that's fun, good times. Would you guys shoot like targets.
Speaker 5 (01:56):
Or yeah, targets, No, targets, nothing, not things, nothing crazy.
Speaker 4 (02:00):
But then.
Speaker 5 (02:03):
They have like we're shooting out into like the base
of these foothills, and so there are little animals every
now and then that pop up and that's when I
got like a little bunny pops up and you're like
you're in the wrong place.
Speaker 1 (02:13):
Squirrels, Yeah, squirrels running around and things.
Speaker 4 (02:16):
Oh shoot, yeah, so we had lunch that day was
rabbit Yeah, yeah, barbecue sauce.
Speaker 1 (02:24):
I love a show where everyone's a suspect. Yeah right,
I love that.
Speaker 3 (02:28):
I love that because you know, every turn is a thrill,
every turn is like something's about to go down, and
it really does in this in this series.
Speaker 4 (02:36):
Thank you. Yeah, Derek Rider. You know, he's been doing
this for years. It's got such a great track record
with this kind of stuff, and he definitely made sure
that the audience was engaged as much as they could
be per episode, you know, and dropping little nuggets throughout
the episodes.
Speaker 5 (02:54):
Yeah, and he's really good at making characters who are
likable and you want to watch, but also then never
squeaky clean, and there's always space for secrets to be buried.
And I think that that is, like it adds a
lot to what we have to play.
Speaker 1 (03:07):
With when we're doing the show.
Speaker 5 (03:08):
And like you said, anything can happen at any time
to any person, and that was really important for him.
If anyone's been watching the show already, you'll see, you know,
pretty early on there is a twist just like that
where you want to be reminded no one's safe, so
make sure you keep watching because it's not going to
be what you think at any point.
Speaker 4 (03:23):
That's so good.
Speaker 1 (03:27):
Yeah, Man and Elliot, did you guys know each other
prior to I wish my life has changed for the brothers. Man,
there's like a vibe, there's a connection here. I'll just
for a minute. I love him.
Speaker 5 (03:43):
He's so awesome and especially like as an example of
someone not just an actor on set, but he's the
most chill vibe.
Speaker 1 (03:50):
So supportive.
Speaker 5 (03:51):
And also you could easily be the most intimidating person
in any room without doing anything. And I know you
know that, and it's not.
Speaker 1 (03:59):
That you.
Speaker 5 (04:00):
Know how to use that if you need to, and
you bring that into your work and that's amazing to see.
But there's such a joy to be around, to work
with as a person, to know you as a family man,
to know him like I And I feel like you
know this because I told you. But I'm so inspired
and supported by him, and it's really it's really a
huge bonus of getting to do this job, getting to
work with people that you love and respect.
Speaker 4 (04:20):
It's how cool is that? It's so cool? There's a
spin off now, I mean feelings mutual. Elliott knows that,
and I don't know what it is, to be honest,
I don't know. You know, maybe it's we have this
very similar sense of humor and and our perspective on life,
(04:42):
and that is that it's it's not here for long,
and you know, to enjoy them to each other and
enjoy the right and Elliot and I hit it off.
You know, I think casting did is such a great
job in formulating this team.
Speaker 1 (04:57):
Yeah, well that's their job, right, Yeah, they have to
kind of create a connection.
Speaker 5 (05:00):
And it's an important job to like casting directors and stuff.
It's an easy thing to do all the time. Sure,
to create magic like this and put the pieces together
without having the full picture to work off off is
a skill.
Speaker 1 (05:13):
He did a really good job at this one.
Speaker 4 (05:14):
And you know, I love you man. He's he's like
he is a brother, and and it's just been a joy.
I mean, there's a there's so many times when the
subject matter of what we shoot is pretty serious and
that kind of thing, and so it kind of gets it.
It can be kind of like, you know, intense. But
if you see Elliott dancing across the room singing some song,
(05:38):
you hear Elliott down the down the other end of
the studio.
Speaker 1 (05:41):
That is my second job, and I'm unset.
Speaker 4 (05:44):
It's enjoyed to be around and it helps not just
me but everybody. So, like I said, the spin off
of the show comes out, what do we call that? Oh?
Speaker 1 (05:59):
I thought about my favorite one? Oh yeah, so much.
Speaker 5 (06:01):
I was trying to get other people to give me
ideas or the producers come to set and I'm like,
so I have this.
Speaker 1 (06:06):
Idea about what was it?
Speaker 5 (06:08):
One of them was, uh, it's all about you being
huge in me being tiny. To be honest, that all
different variations be perfect. Yeah, but honestly that would be
a dream. But we're shooting for season two right now,
and then the build a universe.
Speaker 1 (06:28):
Yeah exactly.
Speaker 3 (06:29):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (06:29):
Are we doing our own stunts? Well they like us? Well,
I mean I didn't do that many, but what about you?
Speaker 4 (06:36):
For the most part, Yeah, there's there was. There aren't
too many stunts that are out of control or something
like that like that that Jensen did.
Speaker 5 (06:45):
I wish though, there was one really cool day where
there is a there's a huge car crash, like there's
a strategic one where Jensen's character to meet him is
like chasing our suspect who takes off in a van
pulling an r V behind him, and he's climbing out
of the car through the r V, jumping onto the
(07:06):
back of the truck to climb in the car while
that's all in a high speed chase, which is crazy,
Like he's amazing, and he wanted to do so much
of that, and I think they did let him do
a fair bit. And then meanwhile, you and I were
in a separate car trying to track that one down
to bon remember doing that was It's funny.
Speaker 1 (07:22):
We didn't actually t bone the car. They wouldn't let
us do that.
Speaker 4 (07:24):
But it's an insurance, yeah, you know, it's.
Speaker 1 (07:31):
You might die thing. They're getting real.
Speaker 2 (07:35):
Soft when studying a script. How much how far in
advance do you guys get to read until you're about
your character?
Speaker 1 (07:44):
Good question. I'm I'm going to wait to see what
you say.
Speaker 4 (07:49):
I feel like we with television, it can change. With
this show. I think we had the I had at
least the first five what pretty early?
Speaker 1 (08:02):
Wait?
Speaker 4 (08:02):
Really yeah, okay, yeah, one to five I think, but
then quickly soon after we had the whole thirteen. So
you don't but that changes, you know, because it's also
an evolving piece. You know, they're working on it consist constantly,
so that can change. But with this show in particular,
I think we got the thirteen pretty quickly, and so
(08:24):
we couldn't sink ourselves, you know, seek our teeth into
the material, then kind of work things out for ourselves.
But it changes. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (08:32):
It's also rareer to have a full season already written
and plotted out to a degree.
Speaker 1 (08:38):
So Derek created.
Speaker 5 (08:39):
This whole season in every script, and so for him,
I think to begin with, he didn't want to let
us in on too much of the story because he
did want the twists and turns to have an impact
for us as well, which was really cool. But I
do remember I got the first three and I was
like cool, It's like everyone's getting the first three.
Speaker 1 (08:56):
I'm like, okay, cool, Google, and I'm like, hey, how
about how about a couple extra ones? Because you know,
I'm intrigued. So he's like, okay, i'll give you. I'll
give you the first five, but don't tell anyone. Yeah, mean,
well you got the first five straight away, you just learned?
Speaker 2 (09:12):
Yeah right, yeah, yeah, like.
Speaker 1 (09:20):
You better right.
Speaker 4 (09:22):
Yeah. We hate each other.
Speaker 1 (09:25):
This is the downfall.
Speaker 4 (09:26):
This is the interview. I can just imagine myself if
I was in, you know, in the brighter position, I
would do you know, if I had a thirteen episode order,
I would do the first three, send it in, they
green light the series, and I'd be like, ship, I
got to ride a hole? Ten episodes?
Speaker 1 (09:46):
English actor or that comes in?
Speaker 3 (09:48):
Yeah, what is you guys's obsession with Domino's pizza? Oh?
Speaker 1 (09:52):
Do you know what? What is it? It's so real?
Really wait, that's it?
Speaker 4 (09:55):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (10:00):
Yeah, Dominos is like here's the thing.
Speaker 5 (10:04):
I feel like, I don't know how they did it,
but they very strategically bombarded the city that I went
to college in in Manchester. My drama school I went
to was right across the street from a Dominoes, and
there would be about like huge pages of I Get
one free by two, get to get free free from
no Reason, all that stuff. They'd be everywhere and you
(10:26):
just walk around and pick them up and go to Dominoes. Listen,
I mean, I'm vegan now, but back then a little
a little half based tomato based, little half barbecue based,
little tandery chicken, and some sweet one crazy.
Speaker 4 (10:38):
Because we have.
Speaker 2 (10:44):
Wait rewind sweet corn on pizza.
Speaker 1 (10:47):
Listen, let's not talk about because you interesting point.
Speaker 4 (10:51):
Did they have regional menus?
Speaker 1 (10:54):
I don't know. There's got to be the I mean
there must be corner here. I'll say this.
Speaker 5 (10:58):
These are my two tips right for pizza. One, don't
miss sweet on like sweet on is ready, just find
out Number two, make sure you eat it the right
way round.
Speaker 1 (11:11):
Don't start because we already did this. Wait I did, Yeah,
I talked to you.
Speaker 3 (11:15):
Right?
Speaker 5 (11:16):
Why is everyone okay? What's your tongue for tasting flavor?
Speaker 4 (11:20):
Right?
Speaker 5 (11:20):
Where do you not taste flavor on the roof of
your mouth? Where is the flavor on a pizza?
Speaker 1 (11:25):
Is it the right at the top? Thank you?
Speaker 4 (11:28):
So?
Speaker 1 (11:28):
Why we will eating flavor?
Speaker 4 (11:29):
Because no one's trying to burn their tongue. That's true.
Speaker 1 (11:33):
I'd rather burn the top of the roof of my
mouth and my tongue. Well, that's interesting. You seem to
both jump to a conclusion that's too hot. It should
be should be.
Speaker 4 (11:46):
Next day pizza.
Speaker 5 (11:47):
Hey, listen, I'm just saying that's another tip to a
good fryer pizza in a pan for leftovers.
Speaker 1 (11:52):
That's a good one. Cold pizza, cold pizza, pizza. Put
it in the toaster.
Speaker 4 (11:59):
I've never done that.
Speaker 3 (12:00):
That sounds like there, you put it in the toaster
for about two minutes, it pops up. Man, you got
the crispiest pizza slice pizza.
Speaker 1 (12:07):
In a toaster. I'm gonna try it, but if I'm
so good, Yeah, it's so so good.
Speaker 3 (12:14):
Yeah pizza. Yeah, just food out out your way is different.
But I mean, Garcia, you've had it right, You've had
the beans on toast.
Speaker 1 (12:21):
Good for you, it's good. I mean it's not great.
I'm not gonna argue with you. I agree.
Speaker 5 (12:29):
The cool thing about England and the UK, especially where
I grew up in Birmingham, it's so multicultural.
Speaker 1 (12:34):
The best food is all the.
Speaker 5 (12:36):
Cultures outside of Yeah, and I'm half black, half white,
so I've had a lot of things.
Speaker 1 (12:41):
Someone that's some interview, I don't know who it was,
but someone was like, have you ever had English?
Speaker 4 (12:45):
White?
Speaker 1 (12:45):
English food? Is like have you ever boiled an entire meal?
Speaker 4 (12:52):
Right? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (12:54):
No, I need give me some Indian food. That's my
go to mecca. It's so good.
Speaker 4 (12:58):
Food in the UK is level. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (13:03):
I'm still looking for a spot out here that it's
like level with that.
Speaker 4 (13:06):
Oh yeah, oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, it's huge.
I mean I miss it.
Speaker 5 (13:10):
But there's a lot of like tayp food here in
Mexican food that you do not find in England too,
or at least I didn't know it.
Speaker 1 (13:16):
That's I threw myself up with that now. Yeah, yeah,
is there Mexican food in Australia.
Speaker 4 (13:22):
Yeah, there are chains, which you know, since moving here,
I've only been here about a year, but since moving here,
far off the mark. Shout out to those who are
trying in Australia. But but a yea way off. I mean,
you know, we're in the heart of it here, so
it's very yea to match.
Speaker 2 (13:41):
Have you gone to the street corner like I've been.
Speaker 4 (13:44):
Yeah, I can't remember the name of it, but it's open.
Speaker 2 (13:47):
It's all good.
Speaker 1 (13:48):
Yeah yeah, yeah, number.
Speaker 4 (13:50):
What it is. It was really kind of going. I
can't I can't read the menu here, but he was
real gracious and like he helped me out with some stuff.
But yeah, this is twenty four hour joint. It's on
a corner, you know, big lights and stuff. You know,
you guys probably know it better than I do. But
the food is.
Speaker 1 (14:06):
Yeah, truck stuff is crazy. This is it's called Vegan Exchange.
It's this like vegan food thing every week that I
go to.
Speaker 5 (14:14):
It used to be by where I live, but now
it's somewhere like Studio City. There is this truck called
the Doughnuttery.
Speaker 1 (14:19):
Okay, so good? Yeah, for real. Every time I see him,
he's like, hey, I'm like, it's me again. I ordered two.
Speaker 5 (14:30):
Chocolate donut bar things. And then he goes away and
he gives me a box of like twelve.
Speaker 4 (14:34):
Donuts, gave me some free ones stuff.
Speaker 5 (14:37):
Now he does well, yeah, but from the beginning for
the first time, Dude, I don't think it's just me anyway.
Speaker 1 (14:42):
I love that.
Speaker 4 (14:46):
I don't think.
Speaker 1 (14:49):
With the show like count Now, what's the biggest challenge?
Is there a challenge? I don't think I've not been
asked that question yet. Honestly, that's a good question.
Speaker 4 (14:56):
Yeah, that's a great question. I The biggest challenge, I mean,
the biggest shame challenge is probably shooting it in the
timeframe that we have. It's a very quick show to shoot.
Speaker 1 (15:05):
So we've got to get it right.
Speaker 4 (15:06):
We do have to get it right, and there's so
many moving parts to it, you know, especially if we
have stunts on that on that day. That's probably it,
to be honest. Usually there's a lot of there can
be some contention with casts and that kind of thing
that can happen, and it happens in life, but with
our show, it hasn't happened at all.
Speaker 5 (15:24):
Yeah, it's actually a very unchallenging show, like relative to
what it could be.
Speaker 1 (15:28):
But you're right, it comes off as challenging, right because
of the explosions.
Speaker 4 (15:33):
Well, that's the thing.
Speaker 5 (15:34):
Yeah, I think to your point, what we love that
we've been able to create with the show is we
want to it feels like a movie packed into a
TV show.
Speaker 1 (15:43):
That's what it is, and so doing that is really
hard and.
Speaker 5 (15:46):
You do have to you have to have the right
people to do it, and luckily we have because it
felt so smooth, it didn't feel like a challenge, but
we accomplished a lot.
Speaker 4 (15:55):
Yeah, yeah, I mean, and credit this is again credit
to Derek writer creator. I actually I don't think I've
disclosed this, but I actually got injured on unshooting episode
and so we had to pivot and we had a
huge stunt sequence with my character saving my family and
(16:17):
it was amazing, Like we've written it out, I got
injured and we were unable to do that. And we're talking,
we had the fires going on, so there were so
many things happening and we had to shoot the next
couple of days that thing. Derek twists, to his credit,
said okay, no is we can do this, we can
handle this, rewrote and we ended up shooting it the
(16:38):
way we've shot it. So that episode, funnily enough, comes
out this Wednesday. You see you can see me kind
of walking unnaturally, but it's a great you know, and
that thing you got to pivot very quickly, and so
we managed to do that. But again it's a it's
(17:01):
a very exciting episode and and this is where we
get to see it's kind of like the wrap up
I think of this case and we'll move on to
our next one the following episode. I don't know I
feel that to say that, but we did. And and
uh yeah, so.
Speaker 2 (17:16):
That's such a skill though too, to like what you're saying,
like Derek to just rewrite and adjust, that's such a skill.
Speaker 4 (17:23):
To yeah, absolutely, because it's not just him going okay,
we can do this. Yeah, it's logistics. It's all the
kind of how does that make sense? Back in episode two,
it's all that kind of thing. So, yeah, it's a
it's a huge skill and we're really blessed to Elliott's
point to be working with people to be able to
do show listen.
Speaker 5 (17:43):
I mean then the industry, even just alone right now
in the last few years, has been so crazy for
everyone in it.
Speaker 1 (17:49):
There's never been a better time to appreciate a good
thing when you have it.
Speaker 5 (17:54):
We all were clear on that with each other from
the day before we even started shooting. Remember Jensen saying, look,
we don't have to do this.
Speaker 1 (18:00):
We get to do this, that's it. And the fact
that we have got to do it with such.
Speaker 5 (18:04):
A great bunch of people and had a great time,
it's like, yeah, not only am grateful, I'm very happily
stick around.
Speaker 3 (18:11):
To do this and with art, right, with art and
as actors, I don't know if you're necessarily in control.
I think the universe is in control right right, So
you have to really be grateful for the moment that
you're in.
Speaker 1 (18:20):
Oh, yeah, for sure, because you don't know what it's
going to be four years, five years down the line. Yeah,
and it's funny.
Speaker 5 (18:26):
We would not to talk about this too much, but
on the way here is having a conversation about like
perceptions of success doing this Trum and I guess the
main part that I've been thinking about, and we talk
about a lot, is what success means to us and
does it mean, you know, always being part of the hype.
Does it mean always having everyone know your name? Or
(18:47):
does it mean having peace and having ease to access
and like your environment, the people that you're with, the
fact that you get to engage in what your passion is.
Whether people know you or not know what you're doing
or not, it doesn't change.
Speaker 1 (19:00):
What you're doing. And if what you're doing makes you happy,
you're successful.
Speaker 4 (19:04):
Bro. Yeah, yeah, yeah, deep real talk.
Speaker 1 (19:09):
And interview, real talk. Thank you guys very much. Elliott,
thank you guys.
Speaker 3 (19:16):
Congratulations countdown Amazon Primes, o G series and his fire.
Speaker 1 (19:20):
Congratulations.
Speaker 4 (19:21):
This is so fun.
Speaker 1 (19:22):
How many times?
Speaker 4 (19:24):
So much? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (19:25):
Because how much do you? Oh, let's go, what about me?
Can we bench press Jackie? Yeah, come on, bench press Garcia.
Then that's hello, funny.
Speaker 4 (19:48):
You know what I'll be. I'm completely transparent. I don't
bench anymore. I do dumb bills. So on each I
can do one hundred and something.
Speaker 1 (19:57):
One hundred something, one hundred something there, yeah on the
you know, oh yeah yeah yeah, sure, yeah, yeah yeah
yeah yeah. If I haven't eaten too much before, I
like to crack out quick.
Speaker 4 (20:08):
There you go.
Speaker 3 (20:08):
Right now, I'm doing forty forty one hundred times. That's
that's pretty much where I'm at.
Speaker 1 (20:12):
That's fantastic.
Speaker 4 (20:13):
Is it really talking about that's amazing? Oh? Is it really?
Speaker 1 (20:18):
How many times he does one hundred and twenty one
hundred times?
Speaker 4 (20:21):
And then that's amazing? Is it really?
Speaker 5 (20:23):
No?
Speaker 1 (20:23):
You're being nice? I'm nice.
Speaker 4 (20:26):
Listen. Yeah. Look, I'm not a personal trainer by any means,
you know, but I grew up playing sport, and I think, uh,
anyone who's lifting above the age of forty, yeah, is
in good shape. You know. As long as you're lifting,
that's that's great.
Speaker 1 (20:41):
How do you know about forty? You know what I mean?
Speaker 4 (20:42):
I'm talking for myself.
Speaker 1 (20:44):
I heard it too.
