the game.
Speaker 3 (00:12):
Yeah, okay, sure, Ten greatest West Coast Rappers of all time?
Speaker 2 (00:16):
Cruise go first.
Speaker 1 (00:19):
This is the list.
Speaker 2 (00:19):
I'm gonna tell you. I'm going to tell you where
you come in at.
Speaker 1 (00:21):
Okay, am I giving you my ten?
Speaker 2 (00:23):
No, you're giving me just anybody that could be on
the list.
Speaker 1 (00:26):
Anyone that could be on the list.
Speaker 3 (00:27):
Kendrick Lamar, he is number three. Jackie Ramirez, doctor Dre
is not on the list.
Speaker 4 (00:34):
I had Snoop Dogg.
Speaker 3 (00:38):
Snoop Dogg is number four. We're all going through obvious. Okay,
Tyler the Creator not on the list.
Speaker 2 (00:45):
Jackie.
Speaker 5 (00:50):
Okay, last time I said Tupac, you guys gave me
ship he's number one.
Speaker 4 (00:54):
What and y'all didn't let me take Dupac for that other?
Speaker 1 (00:58):
No?
Speaker 4 (00:58):
It all, I'm just you lost. Anyways, I'm gonna go by.
Speaker 3 (01:04):
Ice Cube is number two, So it's Tupac, ice Cube,
Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Dogg, Cruise.
Speaker 1 (01:10):
Oh that was a rapper named Cruise. I was like.
Speaker 4 (01:20):
Jesus Lefty Compty.
Speaker 1 (01:23):
Complt not on the list.
Speaker 4 (01:26):
Just wanted to.
Speaker 2 (01:28):
Easy is number six? Yeah, YG not on the list,
not on the list.
Speaker 1 (01:38):
Is not on the list. Nate Dog's not on the list.
Speaker 2 (01:40):
Not necessarily a rapper though.
Speaker 6 (01:42):
I don't like this list.
Speaker 3 (01:43):
Area anybody from the Bear number five okay to Short
number eight.
Speaker 2 (01:51):
Those are the only two bay areas there, honorable men.
Speaker 3 (01:55):
All right, So, uh forty five, Easy six, Corrupt number seven,
number eight to Short number nine, dy J Quick number.
Speaker 2 (02:03):
Ten, Iced Tea. So obviously it's the old head list,
you know what I mean?
Speaker 6 (02:08):
Yeah, super yeah, Well the list that we had yesterday
for the top of the albums was very old head.
Speaker 2 (02:14):
It was stuff too.
Speaker 3 (02:15):
But I mean, I don't have a ton of problems
with the list. I mean, if you're going on experience,
I suppose I would definitely put Tyler in there as
being more current.
Speaker 1 (02:23):
Nipsey Hustle too.
Speaker 2 (02:24):
I think Hustle should be right around there. I think
YG has a case.
Speaker 5 (02:28):
Probably YG has a case, like like low on the list,
Why do you.
Speaker 1 (02:32):
Yeah, I think Schoolboy Q should be on that list
as well.
Speaker 4 (02:36):
Maybe honorable Dom Kennedy.
Speaker 1 (02:38):
Dom Kennedy, Yeah, he pops out when he wants pause.
Speaker 3 (02:43):
Some really good rappers too, like uh, you know Dilated
Peoples with evidence to now yeah, really really a good rapper.
Speaker 2 (02:49):
So yeah, there's I mean interesting stuff.
Speaker 3 (02:51):
But you know, always always down to talk lists because
they'll bring up good debates.
Speaker 1 (02:56):
Those great debates and energy for sure.
Speaker 4 (02:58):
Yeah, that was a weird list.
Speaker 2 (03:00):
It wasn't it.
Speaker 3 (03:00):
It was a weirdless It was all headless, but it
is what it is. Dropped some in the comments below
if you have anything different.
Speaker 6 (03:06):
So the TUPAC came up right now. You had said
that before and they said he was not considered ELI artists.
Speaker 3 (03:12):
Is that yeah, yeah, because he was born in New York,
born in New York, grew up in the Bay or
had ties and and.
Speaker 5 (03:20):
Everyone was saying that he should part of like a
top fifty West Coast rappers list. Yeah, and that complex
had put out I think it was, and then everyone
was arguing that he should have been on there, and
then we had said like, yeah, he should have been
on there. And then when I used him as an
answer for know it all. They told me, the guys
told me that.
Speaker 2 (03:37):
No, it was you know, Chris, Let's just admit it, man,
we don't want her to win. Yeah, I mean we
don't want you to win, man, that's what it's worth.
Speaker 1 (03:43):
I don't even remember this.
Speaker 3 (03:45):
But by the way, even if you got Tupac, you
would have lost.
Speaker 4 (03:49):
It would have been Actually no.
Speaker 1 (03:52):
I think Pak is an l A rapper. For the
sake of argument. Yeah, there's some technicalities there that suck. Yeah. Right.
Speaker 3 (04:01):
How many albums did he put it out while he
was out here? One under Macca Velly right, yeah, all
eyes on me to Tupac ones rightly.
Speaker 6 (04:08):
He had his greatest moments here in l A.
Speaker 4 (04:11):
I mean some of his most recognizable songs about.
Speaker 1 (04:13):
Us we became in Los Angeles, sure for sure.
Speaker 2 (04:17):
Yeah that was that was the time.
Speaker 1 (04:18):
You should have won, Yeah, should have, but you didn't.
Speaker 4 (04:21):
Damn. Yeah, well recount.
Speaker 3 (04:24):
I know.
Speaker 2 (04:27):
That says it all.
Speaker 3 (04:29):
Let's talk about Calaucies man, and what she's doing and
how much we love her for what she's doing.
Speaker 2 (04:34):
Uh. She is performing Lama Lama out on tour basically.
Speaker 3 (04:39):
Towns and so far three Chicago four, La Malama is
something that we came up with here on the cruise
show for Cruise's children, for the kids.
Speaker 1 (04:50):
And then he just took off and it has a
life of its own. It's the Lama stands Alone Man
ten tolls down.
Speaker 3 (04:56):
Yeah, And we don't make any money off of it,
in case anybody's wondering, not someone, it's more for fun.
And the fact that her fans are so interested in
her singing it live because it was such a viral
moment is amazing and I'm glad she's doing it right
on tour.
Speaker 1 (05:12):
So far, she did it in Philly, sold out crowd, Chicago,
sold out crowd, and she's coming to La. She's got
to perform in La.
Speaker 4 (05:20):
But imagine she.
Speaker 1 (05:23):
Has to. You have to perform Lama Lama RepA Jama
on stage with the instrumental.
Speaker 5 (05:28):
But I also feel like, and we also know Kelly
in this way where like, if she's expected to do something,
she won't want.
Speaker 1 (05:34):
To do it. This is true, that is her vibe.
Speaker 2 (05:39):
I move right there.
Speaker 1 (05:43):
But guys, if it's big enough for her to perform
on tour, it's big enough for us to celebrate absolutely
such a huge moment. There isn't a bit there isn't
something that any radio show is doing in North America
that is being performed by an artist, especially on tour.
And there isn't a bit or anything done on the
radio from any show anywhere that's being yelled at at
(06:06):
artists for them to remember, for them to perform or
to acknowledge in some point or at some point. This
is huge.
Speaker 2 (06:13):
Yeah, it's pretty crazy, man.
Speaker 3 (06:14):
Like when Nate sent that video over was what Sunday
Night Jack, Yeah, And I was like, no way, Like
that's just you know, I didn't. I didn't feel like
she was resistant to it, but I just didn't. Also
at the same time everything she was going to do it,
and yeah, I knew it.
Speaker 1 (06:27):
I was like, holy and we knew because of TikTok.
Excuse me, we knew because of TikTok that fans wanted it,
right because they were doing TikTok's about it, like, she
didn't perform Lama Lama after everyone's left and they're still
sitting there in their seat at the show. But it's
it got like crazy and she heard the fans and
(06:47):
she's not performing it.
Speaker 3 (06:48):
I mean, that's just shows how much she loves her fans, right,
Like a dog, that's crazy, man. I'm just happy because
it's like it's a really cool, for full socle moment.
We've been doing it a long time, really cool over
ten years probably, you.
Speaker 1 (07:01):
Know, we've been over ten now.
Speaker 2 (07:02):
Yeah, we've been lucky.
Speaker 3 (07:03):
Enough to you know, be featured on CNN and there's
some great articles out there about it. But it's all
about the kids and teaching them. You know that a
book can be cool, right, and then it's a great
way to introduce R and B and hip hop into
kids' lives, you know, and and something fun, not something corny,
you know.
Speaker 1 (07:19):
No, dog, it's it's our peaceful offering to the internet,
which isn't for peace.
Speaker 6 (07:24):
And there's also a lesson there, like you guys have
been doing Lama Lama for ten years and it's just
now taking off. That just goes to show you, like
just even though it's not it's not working for you
right now or like in a month, don't stop. Just
keep going because it's gonna.
Speaker 1 (07:37):
And you're gonna have your moments of taking off. Right
Like when we first did it, you know, Garcia mentioned
like we started doing it for kids, right, and then
you know you mentioned CNN. CNN and headline news took over,
and uh, the AP got a hold of it, and
I think, what's that?
Speaker 3 (07:53):
There was a real popular dad website father that blog fatherly.
Speaker 1 (07:58):
Fatherly, and there's that other what What's news outlet, slash podcasts,
NPR did it. NPR you know did it and interviewed
us about it, and it got that recognition, and then
it got social media recognition, and now it's got the
fans recognition where they're yelling it at calli Uccis and
she has to stop her show to perform it.
Speaker 6 (08:18):
Well, people are making tiktoks with like the top rated
uh versions, right, yeah, they.
Speaker 1 (08:25):
Do the best, the worst they do. Yeah, yeah yeah.
Speaker 3 (08:27):
So to those people that are making it, thank you.
Yeah you can always tag the Cruise Show, by the way,
and then are Real ninety two three. And then to
cali Uccis and all the other artists that have done it,
thank you because it's kept alive because you're willing to
do it. You know, like if if artists just stopped
doing it, then it dies.
Speaker 2 (08:44):
Right.
Speaker 3 (08:44):
So the fact that they're still down and there's been
iterating different iterations and different like moments where it's popped
out like that's that's amazing, and that just speaks to
the artists. And you know, I remember she wasn't very hesitant.
She wasn't very down with that at first, right.
Speaker 5 (08:58):
Jack, Yeah, yeah, she wasn't. I'd feel like it just
like Lama Lama gives artists that opportunity to really showcase
their talent.
Speaker 2 (09:06):
You know, in a non serious way. But yeah, you're
not going to be judged. It's just fun.
Speaker 1 (09:12):
Like the artists that don't want to do it, we judge.
Speaker 5 (09:14):
Yeah, because then like we like we see how quick
they can adjust to the like temple, how they kind
of you know, fix it to their own vibe. And
I feel like once we tell artists like hey, you
don't have to do it like super fat, just figure
out a pace for you, then that's when they become
they have more fun.
Speaker 1 (09:33):
With it, Yeah, because it's it's not necessarily a performative thing, right,
it should be very it should be taken very loosey
and just have fun with it and you know, trust it,
trust it. And we're just so honestly, man, we're so
thankful and we're so grateful for that Lama Lama and
for the way people have have received it. Yeah, received
(09:54):
it and just love it and we appreciate the joy.
Speaker 2 (09:57):
We're so grateful. We got got tattoos, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 4 (10:01):
Cruises fading well.
Speaker 1 (10:03):
Mine was on the lightest, No.
Speaker 5 (10:05):
Yours is well, yeah, I could see like the like
the front.
Speaker 2 (10:08):
Mine's going strong man.
Speaker 4 (10:10):
Mine is like still like I just got it.
Speaker 1 (10:14):
We all got Lomo tattoos on the show, including that
Mexicano t Yeah.
Speaker 2 (10:19):
Mine too.
Speaker 6 (10:20):
You hold on to ink good?
Speaker 1 (10:23):
Well, No, the tattoo artists also had settings and he
was like, cruises is the lightest. He took it easy
on me because that's scared.
Speaker 5 (10:32):
But honestly, my skin does hold ink well, mine doesn't. Yeah,
because even on this side, I have like another tattoo.
Speaker 4 (10:38):
That's like still dark.
Speaker 1 (10:40):
That Mexicano ta has to perform it too.
Speaker 2 (10:42):
One of these days. I hope he'll do it, you know,
I think he will.
Speaker 1 (10:45):
Glorilla as well, yeah.
Speaker 3 (10:47):
Yeah she Yeah, she jumped off the whole thing again
for us, which is great.
Speaker 6 (10:52):
But her people CALLI and Glorilla that's what they always, Yeah, want.
Speaker 3 (10:56):
Those two and the Mexico tea like those are always
consistently in the top five. Cally does tell a great
story about how she really wasn't sure she wanted to
do it, and like and we're like, no, it's cool,
you know, but and then she ended up doing it,
so I hope that, uh, it's become a real fun
part of her life now and we thank her again
for doing it.
Speaker 4 (11:14):
Man, think she actually reads the book to her baby?
Speaker 2 (11:18):
No, we bought her one, didn't we?
Speaker 4 (11:20):
Yeah, but do you think she will hopefully.
Speaker 1 (11:23):
Show it to the baby? You know, at least she
just plays herself. She's just like, yes, how cool is
it though, for Calli to do that?
Speaker 2 (11:30):
Dog?
Speaker 1 (11:30):
Thank you so much?
Speaker 2 (11:31):
Thank you, Kelly.
Speaker 1 (11:32):
That is so dope.
Speaker 2 (11:34):
Wish list of who you'd really want to see do.
Speaker 4 (11:35):
It m one? Okay, can I say it though, Maria carry.
Speaker 2 (11:49):
Cardi b.
Speaker 3 (11:51):
Yeah, just because I want her to say fucking mama
or some ship like that and just be all like
ye ratchet.
Speaker 1 (11:57):
Yeah. Something tells me Cardi will just read it, not
like necessarily rapid, but do should be like stupid ass lama.
Speaker 5 (12:05):
Yeah, And then you're gonna go up into a tangent
about how she's like, you know what hate when babies crying?
Speaker 3 (12:10):
Like, yeah, well it's been it's been a movie, and honestly, like,
thank you to everyone that's done it and cruise and
you know, I'm just glad that you know, there's something
that this show puts out into the universe that has
staying power and that makes people happy.
Speaker 2 (12:26):
You know, that's that's the best feeling. You know.
Speaker 1 (12:28):
The reason why they sound really good too is because
Garcia takes his time to produce them, and they always
sound crispy.
Speaker 6 (12:34):
With you, you know.
Speaker 4 (12:35):
Crazy.
Speaker 5 (12:36):
Actually, speaking of Lama Lama tweet and peelow their Lama
Lama two. Just told me the other day that she
had posted behind the scenes. It was like a four
minute long video on her TikTok. She's like, dude, that got.
Speaker 4 (12:48):
A million views.
Speaker 1 (12:49):
What crazy?
Speaker 4 (12:50):
She's like, And it was just behind the scenes of
doing scenes one or she was kind.
Speaker 2 (12:54):
Of getting it ready. I saw, yeah, I saw part
of it.
Speaker 3 (12:56):
Yes, she was kind of going through the book and
then she's talking about the signatures and the and.
Speaker 5 (13:00):
And like that got a million views by itself, just
behind the scenes.
Speaker 4 (13:05):
I was like, that's actually not that's sick.
Speaker 3 (13:07):
I think there's just a reminder that that's what the
Internet can not just be used for. But that's what
people want to see, is like, hey, this is something
we've seen him many times. What is the process? Like, yeah,
you know, what's what's the bts of it? And we
haven't really shown off the book and the signatures. I
think we should probably put a video out of that.
There's some pretty impressive signatures in that book, you know.
Speaker 4 (13:27):
Yeah, honestly sometimes I can't read the signatures.
Speaker 1 (13:29):
The signature I know, right those Yeah, because they say
they should have them print their name under their signatures,
so we know, yeah right. Also Nico Blitz, you know,
he does those intros for every artist for every interview. Amazing,
just amazing intros. And he has the yeah, the record
vinyl signed as well from every artist that he did
an intro for.
Speaker 5 (13:48):
Yeah, he needs to get a new one, yeah, because
he's already maxed out.
Speaker 1 (13:53):
Man, that's crazy.
Speaker 5 (13:54):
Yeah, he doesn't want to do the backside of that side.
Speaker 3 (13:58):
Yeah, that's going to be great. Speaking of DJing, I
was eating with my son the other day. We're having
dinner and he told me, hey, Dad, I want to learn.
Speaker 2 (14:06):
How to DJ. And he's like, he's all, who could
teach me?
Speaker 3 (14:10):
And I'm like, dude, well we know a lot of people,
them all, but they're probably not going to be cheap
and then he's like, no, no, but I really kind
of wanted he is, all because I heard a lot
of DJs that suck man, and I know I can
be better.
Speaker 1 (14:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (14:22):
My song he said, his song selection will be fire.
Speaker 4 (14:25):
Yeah, it would be has.
Speaker 2 (14:27):
Good musical tastes.
Speaker 4 (14:28):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (14:28):
But I was like, I go, well, all right, you know,
so who do we have in mind? I don't know.
I don't have anybody in mine and I'm not going
to press anybody.
Speaker 3 (14:34):
Yeah, like I told him to go see mister Chuck
and to be junkies school.
Speaker 4 (14:39):
Oh yeah, they have junk.
Speaker 1 (14:41):
John about that. Yeah, they'll take care of him, you know.
Speaker 2 (14:46):
Because because I've known Chalk for thirty years.
Speaker 1 (14:48):
You know them for thirty years? Yeah, years. So yeah,
they'll take care of you. Bro. That's awesome. Yeah, but
he's serious. I think it's worth looking into.
Speaker 6 (14:54):
If he's serious, what if he gets good enough to
be able to come work here.
Speaker 2 (14:58):
Hey, we always need extra DJ out of you. Yeah,
he made some damn money for this household. Really really cool,
So I don't know.
Speaker 3 (15:08):
Well more to be unfolded, but as a starter kit, what.
Speaker 6 (15:11):
Should get Leslie Pioneer Controller? I mean it depends you
want him to start on records and on like vinyl.
Speaker 2 (15:18):
And or he could use a little controller.
Speaker 6 (15:20):
Right, the controllers, I mean you have to invest more,
I think when you go like the turntable route, because
you have to buy records and sometimes multiple records of
the same song. So if I'm sure here, probably controller probably, Yeah,
Pioneer has great, great controller, laptop.
Speaker 4 (15:34):
Yeah, I know the basics.
Speaker 2 (15:35):
Yeah, Jackie, Yeah, Jackie learned that's why.
Speaker 4 (15:37):
Yeah, I kind of hell yeah, if I can learn,
anybody can learn.
Speaker 1 (15:41):
What's the controller cost?
Speaker 6 (15:44):
Like a I don't know one that's on the cheaper side,
maybe like eight hundred, I.
Speaker 1 (15:49):
Like to start out, to start out.
Speaker 2 (15:50):
Yeah, he has a laptop.
Speaker 5 (15:52):
Yeah, Nico might have some controllers that he doesn't use anymore.
Speaker 4 (15:55):
So wow bone, Yeah, I'll ask.
Speaker 3 (15:58):
Him maybe to practice that. Yeah, I'm glad he does.
He loves music. He has a turntable, but just to
listen to records, right, it wouldn't be appropriate for you know,
to make control is probably the easiest because it's portable too.
Speaker 2 (16:11):
Yeah, it's his generation. Yeah, it's portable and it's less
shit he's got to carry.
Speaker 6 (16:15):
Yeah, Like let's say he starts getting booked at his school.
He can, you know, just take it super easy.
Speaker 5 (16:20):
Yeah, scratching doesn't comprehend in my head about DJ either,
Like scratching, Oh yeah, I can't.
Speaker 4 (16:26):
It's like it's real, doesn't compute.
Speaker 6 (16:28):
I know same. I've tried. You know, years ago, I
booked Fuse. I paid him to like show me how
to scratch. We're talking like twenty ten. Yeah, wow, I
don't know that class so hard, really hard to charge.
Speaker 1 (16:41):
You remember a lot.
Speaker 4 (16:45):
He was just going like, hell of He's like, yeah,
just do that.
Speaker 1 (16:47):
Yeah I do. I can't do that.
Speaker 5 (16:50):
I know.
Speaker 3 (16:51):
Well, you gotta have nice touch because you got to
be able to bring it back to the same spot.
You know, it's not an easy thing to do.
Speaker 2 (16:57):
To do.
Speaker 1 (17:02):
Scratching is tough, man. That's man to like scratch right
and on beat and to make sense. It's tough.
Speaker 3 (17:11):
Well, I'll let you know how that goes. And I
think that's ask some more questions of you. But I
honestly do good for him, man. You know, I turned
my love of music intoto this and and hopefully he
turns it into something he loves too.
Speaker 1 (17:23):
Does he have a DJ name in mind? No?
Speaker 3 (17:25):
We were laughing about that because he you know, he
plays basketball. So we were laughing like, uh, I think
my wife said DJ dribbles and we were laughing.
Speaker 5 (17:34):
Rass, that's such a mom.
Speaker 1 (17:41):
Like DJ dribble.
Speaker 2 (17:44):
Yeah, We're like, bro, that's not cool.
Speaker 3 (17:45):
Man.
Speaker 2 (17:46):
Sounds like he's drooling or something. It was so funny. No,
I have no idea.
Speaker 1 (17:53):
I told him, Mama to come to you and exactly. Yeah,
you can always go dj oh and dog you know
what I mean.
Speaker 4 (18:00):
Big dj oh dj oh. Yeah, he was.
Speaker 2 (18:03):
I hope he does.
Speaker 6 (18:07):
Dj ohn't have the DJ in front of his name anymore.
Speaker 1 (18:12):
Her, you don't.
Speaker 2 (18:13):
They didn't have to anymore.
Speaker 4 (18:14):
Yeah, I mean, Nico technically doesn't blitz right.
Speaker 3 (18:18):
He was funny because he's I don't want to be
like those people, Dad, did I see like at E
d C where it's a whole tape mixed and they're
just turning knobs. He's always want to be that guy, really,
ja because those are pre recorded, right, And I'm like, yeah,
you know, yeah, not all of them, like, but there
are plenty of DJs that just have a set memorized
where it's gonna drop and where it's gonna pick up
and them all and they do the whole theatrics. I go,
(18:40):
that's you know, some DJs do that. I go, but
he's I don't want to do that. I want it
to be real.
