Speaker 1 (00:00):
What's good?
Speaker 2 (00:02):
What's good? What up? As much? And you're checking out
the Cruise Show podcast?
Speaker 1 (00:06):
Subscribe right.
Speaker 2 (00:09):
Yo, Let's go real. Ninety two three LA is new
home for hip hop Black Phone two. I saw it
last night. It's insane. Miguel Mora is in here. My god?
What up?
Speaker 1 (00:16):
Bro?
Speaker 2 (00:16):
How are you? Let me say it? Right?
Speaker 1 (00:19):
Bro?
Speaker 2 (00:20):
Let me say it like like you feel me? Yes? Right, bro, Yo?
The movie is insane. It's a really good movie. Crazy.
I mean from the beginning, you know, you just get
letting into this story and you get sucked into it,
and now you want to know what goes on next
and next and what's going to happen and you find out,
I mean, you get the bloody truth.
Speaker 1 (00:41):
It's good to hear that from from the audience perspective, man,
that they keeps you on your feet, when keeps you
on the edge of your seat. And that's exactly what
we love to hear. You know, that means we delivered.
And I can't wait for everybody to see it. And
it really is a hell of a movie. Man.
Speaker 2 (00:57):
You know what I dug too, is that you're speaking
Spanish in the movie.
Speaker 1 (01:00):
Yeah, we representing man, That's right. That's dope.
Speaker 2 (01:02):
Hell yeah, like yo, you feel me like yo?
Speaker 1 (01:08):
Oh yeah, yeah, for sure. I spoke Spanish in the
first one as well, and that's you know, it's funny
that I think that's why Robin, my character in the
first one, took off because of his famous lines I
can't kill you, you know. But yeah, it's cool to see, man,
that I got that opportunity to come back, and Ernesto
is another I get to portray a Mexican American character.
Speaker 2 (01:30):
Very cool. I love how they brought you back though,
and how they worked that, you know what I mean,
and how you know, how how they created that space
for you. Very cool.
Speaker 1 (01:39):
It's very special, man. You know, to to be brought
back to a sequel alone is a big thing. But
then to be brought back to a sequel to portray
a new character, that's something that's not that common. Really
see that you don't, So that alone, man, is a
really big opportunity, and I couldn't be more grateful for that.
I feel really blessed to just be a part of
(02:00):
a sequel this big and once again, man to be
able to represent the Latinos and you know, Mexican Americans.
Speaker 2 (02:07):
Got to be a cool thing, right, A good call
to get like, Okay, you're coming back, You're like, but
how like, how do you do That's right? You have
to question a lot of questions. It's gonna be weird.
Is it gonna be uh, gonna be corny? Is it?
Speaker 1 (02:17):
Like?
Speaker 2 (02:17):
How are we doing that? Am I coming back as
a ghost? Right?
Speaker 1 (02:19):
Yeah? Yeah? Yeah? No, you you think you know that,
Like a lot of people make sequels for it's just
just a money grab, you know, it's just some But
this one is nothing like that. And I can say
that with all honesty and put my heart into that
that the filmmakers behind this are not those people, and
they make films from their heart, you know, they put
(02:40):
their souls into it. And this is one of those
films where you see it, you know this it takes
you on a whole rollercoaster of emotions. And they just
did such a phenomenal job. When I first read the script,
I was blown away. And yeah, like you said, you
you ask a lot of questions. I was wondering how
I was going to be brought back. I was confused.
You know, my character died. How are you guys going
to do that? Then they figured out a way they
(03:04):
brought Ernie back.
Speaker 2 (03:04):
That's great. Well they brought Ernie. Yeah yeah, Ernie, right,
and now you're Ernie. It's crazy, Like I'm still watching
the movie my head. Every time I close my eyes,
I see the grabber bro.
Speaker 1 (03:12):
Yeah, it's scary. Man. Ethan Hawk did a phenomenal, phenomenal job,
such a good actor.
Speaker 2 (03:18):
Yeah, crazy.
Speaker 1 (03:18):
The talent behind this film is just really good. Everybody
on sets so so talented, so professional.
Speaker 2 (03:24):
So at lunch when there's a break, are you having
lunch with those three little kids? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (03:28):
Yeah yeah. But the ghost boys and everything. Yeah, you know,
I'm glad you brought that up, man, because it's there
in the script. They referred to like as the ghost kids, right,
And the first time I seen them on set, like
I was walking around and then I don't know where,
I just see like this little dead kid with like
I don't want to spoil nothing but the wounds and everything,
(03:49):
like very terrifying. And it was dope to see that
because they were all the same age that I was
when I filmed the first one. Wow. And that was
honestly like a special moment because you know, it took
me back to when I was once a Ghost Kid.
So then to see the new ghost Kids here and
being a part of this film, I was like, damn,
that's dope. Like I was once one of you guys.
That's right, that's super dope. And yeah, I mean seriously,
(04:12):
like they they were such talented kids and they did
a really good job. Bro.
Speaker 2 (04:16):
This morning, I'm getting up and I'm walking out of
my bedroom and I'm coming around the corner and it's
five am, and my son is standing there.
Speaker 1 (04:22):
Bro.
Speaker 2 (04:22):
From watching I watched the movie last night, I jumped
yeah yeah, yeah, yeah Dad, And I was like, right.
Speaker 1 (04:28):
I took you right back.
Speaker 2 (04:29):
I was like, yo, Bro, even now thinking about it, dog,
it's crazy.
Speaker 1 (04:33):
No, they did all the like practical effects and all that.
It's everybody behind every department that went into this film.
Like they did such a good job, every job.
Speaker 2 (04:42):
Yeah, everything seems so realistic. And I love the grab
or how he now comes back to you or comes
back to her in in her dreams now like almost
like Freddy Kruger Broke.
Speaker 1 (04:53):
Oh yeah for sure. Yeah the Freddy came out what
and like I'm talking like I was born, but Freddy
nyml Elm Street came out I think eighty four and
this movie, Black Phone Too, is based in nineteen eighty four.
That's that's the way it takes place in Colorado, and
it's cool to see that, Like this generation has its
(05:16):
own like Freddy, and it's cool to see that the
Grabber is you know, it's not Freddy Kruger. It's a
totally different thing than that, but there's some similarities to that,
to that franchise, and it's super cool to like, honestly,
Black Phone two feels like an eighties film, like like
has that that hard you know, so that.
Speaker 2 (05:35):
Has that grainy look too, which I really appreciate the
way it shot.
Speaker 1 (05:38):
Yeah, the Scott he loves to play with his h
with this film, and it's it's super dope seeing that
those transitions in the film and that creativity that he
brought to it with the dream sequence and all of
that is dope.
Speaker 2 (05:50):
Nah. Yeah, man. When I saw Yeah he was coming
back in a dream sequence like that, I was like,
that just took me back to my childhood. And I
instantly resonated with that. With Black Phone Tool, I was like, yo,
I feel like, I like this is this is something
I felt before, which is really good, right, because you
want to be reminded when you're watching a movie like, oh,
now this feels you feel closer to it.
Speaker 1 (06:12):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's that's something that I really enjoy
about this sequel that I think it's good to hear
from uh, an audience like yourself saying that that they
can relate to it. And I also think that this
younger generation is going to be able to say that
as well, because the first one was a middle school
coming of age movie. Uh, and three years go by,
(06:35):
and now this is a high school coming of age movie.
And the fandom that was that made this movie blow
up was you know, they grew up with us as well.
They also got a little older, and they're they're just
a part of the journey just like we are. So
it's it's cool to see that that connection with the
fans and the audience already. And I really think a
lot of people are gonna be able to connect to
(06:57):
it the way they do with the first.
Speaker 2 (06:58):
Just as a warning is why.
Speaker 1 (07:00):
It's wild man, Oh it's wild for sure. Yeah I was.
I've seen it in Austin for the first time last month,
and yeah, it's everything. It's everything that I thought it
was gonna be, as all of these movies.
Speaker 2 (07:12):
I wish I would have saw it in the daytime. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
like yoh, bro, now I gotta like walk to my car.
Speaker 1 (07:17):
Yeah. No, it's it's unique too. Man, It's not like
it's not your typical horror film.
Speaker 2 (07:22):
No, no, it's not.
Speaker 1 (07:23):
It has heart, it has passion. You can really see
all of that.
Speaker 2 (07:26):
There's friendship and there's family.
Speaker 1 (07:27):
Yeah. Family, It's it's an emotional ride, you know. It's
it's funny at times, it's intense, super it's gory, it's dark,
you know, and it's just it's a really it's a
really good film.
Speaker 2 (07:40):
Yeah. There's blood everywhere. Oh yeah, you know what I mean.
And yeah, there's like some religion involved, there's family involved,
there's mystery obviously, and it's thrilling and it's scary, a
lot of jump scared moments as well. The sound effects
of the.
Speaker 1 (07:51):
Movie, yeah, the sound design, everything was really good to score.
I mean, everybody really just comes from this place of
hashing and you can see it. You know, it shows
on the film that the people behind this are just
genuinely really talented and passionate individuals, and that's what we
like to see. Man, those are the movies.
Speaker 2 (08:10):
We like to be a part of Halloween, your favorite holiday.
Speaker 1 (08:13):
Yeah, it's fun.
Speaker 2 (08:14):
Man.
Speaker 1 (08:14):
I like October for sure. That spooky season is really perfect.
It's really cool and it's cool to see that Black
Phone two comes out October seventeenth. So originally it was
gonna come out in summer, and then I saw that
they pushed it back to Yeah.
Speaker 2 (08:25):
When I saw that, I was like perfect. Yeah, and
I saw the movie, I was like, oh God, that
makes so much sense.
Speaker 1 (08:31):
It's perfect.
Speaker 2 (08:31):
So yeah, with fans like Thople.
Speaker 1 (08:36):
I did that for the first one. Yeah, but I honestly, yeah,
I don't mind. I think it's cool to to show
that love I got. I got some press lined up
in Arizona because I'm from Phoenix, and we're gonna be
hitting up some theaters over there and surprising the fans
out there.
Speaker 2 (08:55):
Very cool.
Speaker 1 (08:55):
I love engaging with the fans. Everybody's super super dope
and it's cool to have that connection and engagement with
your follow.
Speaker 2 (09:01):
Sure, sure, what were you a fan of? But what
are you a fan of? And who are you a
fan of?
Speaker 1 (09:06):
If anything?
Speaker 2 (09:06):
Like?
Speaker 1 (09:07):
Just mo Yeah, man, I'm I've been acting for eight
years now. I started when I was ten. But I
think my passion really falls into directing, and I'm I'm
studying film and I see myself being a director for sure.
And I I've already mentioned his name is so many interviews.
(09:28):
I'm gonna do it again, but get him with photos
of somebody I really look up. You know, my big
inspiration is Martin Scorsese, Tarantino, so many, so many legends.
Speaker 2 (09:39):
So you've seen their movies obviously, Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 1 (09:41):
Yeah, yeah that that I just that's who you learn from,
you know. And also being on set, Like there's no
better film school than being on set for a horror
film like this. So many people you know in the
industry that you can really just learn from.
Speaker 2 (09:55):
Yeah, were you watching, like, you know, growing up Latino? Right, Like, yeah,
I was watching The Exorcist, Godfather, Good Fellas, and I'm
a kid, Yeah I wouldn't. I have eight year old
and four year old now I'm not letting them watch that. Yeah,
I mean, but like I grew up, we watched the
craziest shit.
Speaker 1 (10:10):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, no, that's I those are the movies
I watched. It just funny enough my interview before this,
those are I mentioned those films? Yeah, good fellas all
of that. So you know I love classics for sure.
Speaker 2 (10:22):
Yeah. Man, But so your mom, right, you're acting with
eight years older. You started at eight ten, so she's
taking you into auditions and she understands what you want
to do or was this something that she thought you
could do? No.
Speaker 1 (10:35):
I I went to her and I told her that, Ma,
I want to be an actor.
Speaker 2 (10:40):
Wow.
Speaker 1 (10:41):
And you know, at first she kind of didn't believe me.
She thought it was just like a phase, like okay, yeah, sure, okay,
me cool. Yeah, And then I went again next week,
May I want to be an actor? Still? Really like,
then again, may I want to be an actor? And
that's when she was like okay. And she since day one, man,
(11:01):
she's been there by my side and because of her,
you know, I've am where I am today. You know,
she's the one pushing me to to do everything. So
it's just she's a big, big part of my motivation,
you know. Of course, So give a lot of credit
to mom.
Speaker 2 (11:19):
For sure. It's right on moms man. They hang in there, man.
Speaker 1 (11:22):
Yeah yeah yeah, And she's acting is one of those
things man where it's just like it's it's not easy.
You know, I've been doing this for.
Speaker 2 (11:29):
And it can't be easy for her either, right, Yeah.
Speaker 1 (11:31):
Yeah, No, there's a whole lot of sacrifice that goes
into this that a lot of people don't see. And
I couldn't be I couldn't be more grateful for that.
You know, we as a family, my parents have sacrificed
so much, you know for this. There's there's it takes
a lot of time out of your life, a lot
of energy, a lot of everything, you know, and there's
(11:52):
there's a lot that goes into it that that behind
the scenes that people don't really know about. And it's
just one of those things where it's like, you know,
I couldn't just be more grateful for the foundation and
the team that I got.
Speaker 2 (12:04):
So what does your mom say when you don't get
a callback or you don't get the gig.
Speaker 1 (12:08):
Just keep moving forward, you know. She she's the one
that has always been there to to bring me up
when I feel down, you know, So having that that
supportive foundation behind me, and you know, my mom's a
go getter, man. That's where that's where that's the fuel
right there. You know, She's she's been a huge motivation
for myself. She's she's a hard worker. My whole family.
(12:30):
We come from hard workers, you know, and I can
say that about a lot of our culture is like
you know, so yeah, just it's good of a lot
of props to them and really grateful to have them
in my corner.
Speaker 2 (12:43):
In my notes it says Miguel is a first trap
on TikTok.
Speaker 1 (12:49):
All right, Yeah, that's all right, that's wild man, that's
I mean, I don't know how to how to react
to that. It's just like, thank you, I feel, I feel,
I think, yeah, I appreciate that's no. I mean, you know,
the fans, it's it's crazy. I never expected h to
(13:14):
gain that following from from Black Phone. These are my
only I only got these two projects under my belts
right now, you know. So it's just like it's crazy
to see that the audience really connected with my character
in the first one, and that to me just blows
my mind, like wow.
Speaker 2 (13:31):
Back right, yeah, first one, we got to know you,
and then you come back as a different character, but
we know you, yeah, and then Ernesto's character is totally
differ different though he's right there. You're supporting in a way,
but you're you're almost the glue to that to everything
that's going on.
Speaker 1 (13:48):
In a sense, man, I think it's really special because
it's I was a part of the first one as
h I was a positive influence in the first one.
Speaker 2 (13:59):
You know.
Speaker 1 (13:59):
I think my character stands for something good, you know,
stand up for yourself, you know, don't let nobody bring
you down type of thing. And Robin was that character,
and he was by Finn's corner, you know, in the
first movie. And now to be brought back as Ernesto,
I feel like there's some similar similarities there between Robin
and Ernesto. Ernesto kind of stands up for the same thing,
(14:20):
you know, he wants to do what's right. And now
he's there by the sister Gwen's corner. So it's cool
to be brought back.
Speaker 2 (14:27):
To be the friend. And it's a polity. He's a gentleman. Yeah, yeah, right.
And when she bro I laughed so hard, and I'm
the only one who laughed. But maybe it's my personality.
I don't know my humor. But when you told her,
like when you asked her if she was praying, and
like praying is so hot? Yeah, bro, I started, I
laughed so loud.
Speaker 1 (14:47):
Yeah, that was such a when I first read the script.
I was dying laughing too, because when we did the
we did a table read and I noticed that they
took that line out, and I was like, what happened?
Why did you guys take that? And the director was like, no, well,
you know, we just thought we don't need it, you know,
And I was like, I was bummed, you know. I
was like, oh, that was a really funny line, like
(15:08):
you guys should have took it out, and he was like,
you liked it, and I was like, yeah, I loved that.
That's like one of the funniest moments of the so
funny man of the whole movie. And he was like,
all right, we'll bring it back. And sure enough, they
brought that line back. And when I saw it in Austin,
like everybody started laughing for that.
Speaker 2 (15:23):
It's hilarious. And I still loves his mom too, right.
Speaker 1 (15:26):
Yeah, man, there's some connection, you know. It's funny, like
I see so many similarities in Robin and so many
similarities in Ternesta, and it's just like it's cool to
play these both characters that had a lot of fun
exploring both worlds.
Speaker 2 (15:37):
Without giving away too much, because I mean, you know,
people hate when the endings are ruined right now. Yeah,
what's something that stood out to you at the end.
Speaker 1 (15:48):
Of this film though, Yeah, something that stood out to
me is, hmmm, that's a tricky one.
Speaker 2 (15:59):
It's graphic.
Speaker 1 (16:00):
Yeah, there's there's a lot going on, and I didn't expect.
I don't want.
Speaker 2 (16:04):
To give away too much. I didn't expect the.
Speaker 1 (16:09):
Call the oh yeah, yeah, that was a really I
didn't expect that at all. Can I say, I don't know,
Maybe we shouldn't.
Speaker 2 (16:19):
I like, I don't care if people spoil stuff. I'm like,
I don't care because I still want to see.
Speaker 1 (16:23):
Yeah, for the people out there, there's a really uh,
there's a there's a phone call kind of towards the
end where it's like it's unexpected, you know that there
there's a parallel moment from the first one to the
to this sequel. I'll just leave it at that. That
was something that that was cool to to see that
they brought that back. And honestly, man, it's just the
(16:45):
whole approach to the Grabber and everything was was really dark.
Speaker 2 (16:49):
I was terrifying that mask is going to go crazy
on how.
Speaker 1 (16:52):
Yeah, it's so cool. It's so cool to see I
think it's such a such a they it's so much
scarier than the first one. I think so true the
whole like frost bite and everything that they did that
they went into it. It's like so terrifying.
Speaker 2 (17:06):
Yeah, once it comes off, you really see what's going on,
it's like whoa yo. Yeah wow.
Speaker 1 (17:13):
I mean he was scary enough as a human, and
now now he's he's a ghost. He's just like evil spirit.
Speaker 2 (17:18):
Wold Bill Man, Yeah, Wild Bill Insane Man. The Black
Phone to October seventeen.
Speaker 1 (17:22):

Speaker 1 (17:27):
Yeah, right for everybody out there, go take your lovely
date to go see yeah and have a great time.
Speaker 2 (17:32):
Or go see it solo if you if you like, yeah, yeah,
take the whole family. Yesterday, somebody had a kid in
there and I was like, oh.
Speaker 1 (17:39):
Oh yeah, it's a it's an r Rader movie.
Speaker 2 (17:41):
Yeah I know.
Speaker 1 (17:41):
I was like, oh yeah, Like I was like, and
it's crazy because it's the little ones that like it
the most, you know. It's like, yeah, yeah, this is wild.
This generation's wold Man. But it's cool to see the
love everybody.
Speaker 2 (17:55):
That's right, man, What else are you working on.
Speaker 1 (17:58):
I got some I got some other project slamed up
Man and some Man some other, a project of my
own that that has been in the works now for
for a little over a year. Something that I'm working on,
that I'm building that I'm excited to share with everybody.
And uh yeah, that'll be coming out pretty pretty pretty soon.
You play the guitar, I played the electric guitar.
Speaker 2 (18:20):
Yeah, guitar. Yeah. Nice. You're planning on releasing music.
Speaker 1 (18:23):
I thought of it. I thought about it. I wrote
some stuff. I think I see better in Spanish than
what I do in English. So it's just I don't know.
I think there's never say never, you know, never say never.
So we'll see.
Speaker 2 (18:35):
