Speaker 1 (00:00):
Nobody, and I do mean nobody. Does it like your
early morning praise party. I am Sherry Mackie in its time,
right now for today's word. Voices that shape your future,
Voices that shape your future. First Kings twelve and eight
says Rehabem rejected the advice the elders gave him and
(00:24):
consulted the young men who had grown up with him
and were serving him. You know, when King Solomon passed away,
his son Rahabim stepped into a moment of great influence
and opportunity. Israel was united, Israel was wealthy, and Israel
was respected. The people came to Rahabim with one simple
(00:47):
plea lighten the burden that had been placed on them.
So Rabbulahim did something wise, at least at first he did.
He asked the elders, the season leaders who had walk
closely with his father, for guidance. They gave him sound counsel.
If you speak kindly and serve the people, they will
(01:09):
serve you loyally all your days. If you speak kindly
and serve the people, they will serve you loyally all
your days. But instead of listening, Rahabim turned to his
younger friends. The men who had grown up with him.
They told him what his ego wanted to hear. Make
(01:33):
the work harder, make the load heavier, show them who's
in charge. See that advice felt empowering, but you know
what it was. It was foolish. Rahoabim followed the wrong
voices and the result was devastating. The kingdom was torn
(01:53):
into and it was never the same again. See there's
a lesson here for all of us. The voices you
listen to, they shape your future. Not every compliment is confirmation,
Not every agreement is wisdom. Not every person close to
you is qualified to counsel you. You need people in
(02:17):
your life who love you enough to tell you the truth,
even when the truth is uncomfortable. Friends who can say
I love you, but that choice isn't wise. Mentors who
have walked where you're trying to go. Leaders who are
anchored in God's word and not in your feelings. Truth
tellers are a gift from God. Sometimes we gravitate toward
(02:41):
voices that agreed with what we already want, But Godly
counsel doesn't always feel good in the moment. It refines us,
it stretches us, it humbles us. And you know what.
It saves us from mistakes that could take years to repair.
Take a moment today to avow you wait the voices
around you, who influences you, who has access to your heart,
(03:06):
who gets to speak into your decisions, and even more importantly,
are you willing to listen when the truth is hard
to hear. Your future is too valuable to be shaped
by voices that only flatter you. Choose truth, Choose wisdom.
Choose counsel that aligns with God's word and your God
(03:27):
given purpose. Father, God, thank you for reminding us that
wisdom is found in the counsel of those who honor you.
Help us to surround ourselves with people who speak truth
in love. Give us a humility to listen even when
the truth challenges us. Goide our steps, God, God our heart,
and help us to make decisions that follow your will
(03:50):
for our lives. In Jesus' name, that's your word for today.
Take it apply to your everyday life, and you continue
to be encouraged and inspired, isurely wanting praise party. I
am Sherry Mackie
