Speaker 1 (00:01):

the Fanatics right here on sports Radio AM seven sixty
the Ticket.

Speaker 2 (00:16):
These guys are Fanatics and you gensa has opened up
my phrase coortly, this is the Fanatics.

Speaker 1 (00:23):
Hello and welcome inside the Fanatics right here on Ticket
seven to sixty. Many ways that you can listen to
the show, watch the show as well. I am your host,
Dylan Emory, along with Shane Carter. We have a couple
of guests to get to, but right now, very important
guests that I want to bring on right away is
Counselman Mark White. Counselman Mark White. Good morning, and can
we breathe a sigh of relief as this past Tuesday

(00:47):
Prop A and Prop B both pass in the city
of San Antonio.

Speaker 2 (00:53):
For having me. Yeah, it was a big week, for
big week for our city. You know, the voters have
their opportunity to weigh in and Tuesday night we got
the results. And yeah, I think this is something where
this was a giant step forward for San Antonio. And
as I've always said I thought when people got a

(01:14):
chance to review the accurate terms of the deal, I
thought in the end they would be for it as
we saw. And now it's about making sure that this
project is the very best it can be for all
San Antonians.

Speaker 1 (01:28):
Yeah, and you know, the one thing that I always
have to ask is is a lot of people are
asking me this mark, what now, what happens now?

Speaker 2 (01:38):
Right? So over the next i'd say three or four months,
we're going to work hard to get this into a
contractual form. Right. We need everybody now to sign on
the dotted line so that there are legal obligations for
the spurs, the county, and the city as we go forward.
So it's getting it on paper and finalized so that

(02:02):
then we can move forward and talk about the infrastructure
piece of this and how to actually make it become
a reality.

Speaker 1 (02:09):
And one of the things too, that we saw was
kind of a divided city for a while. And I
know that you know there was a couple councilmen such
as yourself and Judge Peter Sakai who was also trying
to unite us back together. How important is it now
that San Antonio we have this vote? How important is
it now to unite and get this thing going for

(02:30):
the San Antonio Spurs and most importantly for the San
Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo.

Speaker 2 (02:35):
That's right, It's extremely important because these projects need to
be done in a way where all of San Antonio
can reap the benefits. And you're right. Over the last
hundred days, this has sort of been a divisive issue,
strong feelings on both sides, but at the end of
the day, we are better when we're together in an

(02:58):
expanded rodeo and a new Spurs arena downtown have an
opportunity to really take this city to the next level,
to create jobs for our citizens, to create revenue for
this city which can then be used for streets and
sidewalks and public safety and drainage projects that will benefit

(03:18):
our neighborhoods in all four corners of San Antonio. So
it is time to come together, let everybody's voice be
heard on what these projects should look like, and then
get together and make it happen.

Speaker 1 (03:31):
And of course there's also media outlets out there now
that are reporting about our mayor and what she is
stating and she's not saying if she will want a
second vote for the Spurs arena. I'll be honest with you, Mark,
what does this mean for people that are reading these
headlines and they don't really know what we're talking about.
Here she's winning a second vote for this arena.

Speaker 2 (03:53):
Yeah, so you know, what we just voted on was
the county's three hundred and eleven million dollars, and the
mayor has voiced an opinion that maybe now we should
vote on the four hundred and eighty nine. That's that's
you know, that pf Z money, right, that's that's been
termed the city portion. And I've said from the very beginning, Listen,

(04:13):
these elections, first of all, are expensive, right, It's expensive
to hold one of these things, And why would we
spend more tax payer money on another election when really
our community for the past one hundred days has had
a debate over this. Right, for the last hundred days,
we have had town hall meetings in each district in

(04:34):
this city. This thing is debated, been debated on TV,
on radio shows, in the newspaper. Everybody had an opportunity
to weigh in, and at the end of the citizens said, hey,
we want to move forward, So why would we have
another vote that's going to take time and money when
we just did it. I don't understand that. But listen,

(04:57):
the mayor, we're going to see what she's she's gonna do.
My hope is that she will get on board and
herself work to make this the best it can be
for all of San Antonio. But you know, thus far
she's she's tried to throw roadblock after roadblock at this.
But you know, we'll see what she decides to do.

(05:18):
But again, like you said earlier, we all need to
come together now, the county, the city, the citizens and
make this as best as best as possible.

Speaker 1 (05:26):
Yes, and Councilman Mark White joining the fanatics. And I've
got to ask you this too, because a lot of
people are on Facebook Live right now, and first of all,
they're thanking you for a lot of things that you
have done to get this prope out there and prop
be knowledge out there, because a lot of them, Mark,
I'll be honest, you kind of flipped the script on them,
which was great. We had great voter turnout for San Antonio,

(05:47):
for this, for this election and for these voting purposes.
But I want to ask after it, like on Wednesday morning,
was there any inside that you can maybe tell us
about how Mary Jones, may we met with all of
y'all or did she do any meetings with you guys
this week on on what happened.

Speaker 2 (06:05):
Well, I don't I don't want to get into some
of the things that happened this you know, after the
vote behind closed doors this week, because we're sort of
obligated to keep the confidentiality of some of the things
that go on in our executive sessions. But I will
say that the public needs to keep the pressure up

(06:28):
on this. Okay, whenever you're dealing with politicians, first of all,
you have to keep the pressure up. You have to
make them stick to their word. And and you guys
in the media actually really really helped make that happen
to a large extent. But look, we need to we
have the term sheet, that is the framework of the deal.

(06:49):
We need to abide by the term sheet, get this
in a contract and move forward. And I'm confident that
we're going to do that, you know, because that's what
our citizens want. They want a government that is transparent,
is accountable. They got an opportunity to weigh in with

(07:09):
that vote, and now everybody at City Hall needs to
do their job, which is to make this project something
again that can benefit everybody in San Antonio, you know.

Speaker 1 (07:20):
And one of those things that I'll tell you too, Mark,
is that you're one of those councilmen that this has
kind of been one hundred days of craziness in San
Antonio after kind of you know, San Antonio being San
Antonio wanting to expand. We hit one hundred day little
roadblock here. But you guys have been professional and I
would almost say calm, cool and collective, you know, as
we move forward for the city of San Antonio. And

(07:43):
I can tell you there was a lot of fans
and a lot of people that commented to me on
Wednesday that we could all take a deep breath, and
we did, and we're very excited that the Spurs are
getting that chance to come back downtown. And I almost
say this, Mark, come back home. And so that's just
the important part here. But again, if you could just

(08:04):
tell people one more time, what is the next step
for this whole Prop A and Prop B for the
city of downtown San Antonio.

Speaker 2 (08:12):
Yeah, well, I do want to say, listen, if you've
seen my work over the past two years, if this
was something that was going to raise people's taxes or
cost people money in any way. As I've said to
you before, I would have been at the tallest building
in San Antonio yelling no, no, no, no. But the
fact that we were able to finance this in a

(08:32):
way that I deemed to be as fiscally responsible as
possible for a project like this, again is why I
thought that everybody should seriously take a look at at
voting for it. So now as we move forward, yes,
number one, we've got to paper the deal. We've got
to make sure that it's all in writing and contractual form.

(08:54):
And part of that is going to be the spurs
commitment to stay in San Antonio or the next thirty years,
which you know we all have to believe is extremely important. Right.
They are an integral part of this San Antonio community.
It's not just the games on the court. It's everything
they do for our city, the revenue they create, the

(09:15):
jobs that they create. You know, San Antonio. You know,
the Spurs are San Antonio, So keeping them here is
a priority. And then yeah, moving forward, after we get
it in contractual form, it's about the infrastructure, you know,
and you and I have talked a little bit about
that in the past. But the next piece is going
to be making sure the infrastructure downtown near the Alamodome,

(09:40):
near this new proposed arena is what it should be
and the citizens should know. I mean, has anybody tried
to go to a concert down at the Alamodome in
the past year or any event down there. It is
an absolute nightmare to try to travel around down there.
So that infrastructure was going to have to be revamped anyways,

(10:00):
but with a new arena coming on the other side
of the highway, it certainly is going to have to
be revamped and revamped now. And so we're going to
have to take a look as a city on how
we want to do that and get that into place,
and then we should be all good to go and hopefully,
you know, breaking ground and starting to really move this
thing forward come the end of next year and into

(10:23):
twenty twenty seven.

Speaker 1 (10:25):
And Counselman Mark White joining us in councilmen. And lastly,
I got to tell you this week has been nothing
but victories for you. Obviously prop a prop B for
the city of San Antonio.

Speaker 2 (10:35):
And I got to.

Speaker 1 (10:36):
Say upset alert yesterday in college football, you're wake Forest
demon Deacons knocking off the number twelve Virginia Cavaliers sixteen
to nine. And as a suitor fan, I think you're
Wake Forest team for doing this because we should be
able to move up in the polls. So thank you
for that one.

Speaker 2 (10:54):
Big for Wake and I think it was win number
six which makes us Bowl eligible. It's very nice for
the Wake Forest football team to be in a ball
let me tell you that does not happen every year.
So that was good news. And if we could follow
it today with a Houston Texans victory, then yeah, I'd
say a good week all around.

Speaker 1 (11:15):
Yeah. And so last question I got for you, I'm
going to give you an NFL pick here, the Texans
or the Jacksonville Jaguars, and of course I'm going to
let you have the podium for that one.

Speaker 2 (11:28):
Pick. In the Texans, you know CJ. Stroud won't be playing,
but I think we have one of the best backups
in the league and Davis Mills. The game is at home.
The Texans are going to get it done and get
back on track.

Speaker 1 (11:40):
Absolutely all right. Counselman, Mark White, thank you so much
for joining us. We'll have to have you on on
and off again on the show. We appreciate it. And
go Spurs, Go, go Demon Deacons, go and go Texans.
Go for it for you.

Speaker 2 (11:54):
Hey, thank y'all, Thank y'all for having me. I'll be
back anytime you want me. And thank you again for
getting all the information out to the public over these
last few months. I appreciate that.

Speaker 1 (12:03):
Yeah, not a problem at all. All right. That was
Counselman Mark White joining us on the Fanatics, and guys,
I brought them on today because it's now a what
now process? What do we do now? What are the
citizens do now? What's the mayor up to now? And
I wanted to make sure that we got some facts
out there, and we brought that to you right here
on the Fanatics because we do love our Spurs and
we do love our city and Prop A passes and

(12:25):
Prop B passes for the city of San Antonio. So
coming up next, we're going to jump into the college
football atmosphere and have some sounds and everything else because
we're a sports network, that's what we do. It's the
