(00:48):
Seahawks got the new OC. Clint Kubiak, Yes he is
now a Seahawk. If you guys remember, he was the
Saints offensive coordinator and Dennis Allen got canned after what
I think they lost their seventh straight game. So with
that being said, they lost him and Clint Kubek was
on that coaching tree. So the Saints are like, yeah,
you can field options because we're probably gonna bring you back, buddy,
(01:09):
and the Seahawks said, no problem, we will take it in.
So Seahawks have new OC Clint Kubiak, and we'll get
more information on Clint as Luke Johnson will join us
here on the Big pumpany hotline two, as I'm done
with these headlines. The Kraken beat the Penguins for to
one and are now twenty two and twenty five and three.
Anderson he says they got a game tonight, man, Yeah,
big game. I think Krack and need to kind of
(01:30):
build off of their three and one home stand. It's
against one of the best teams in the league and
the best player in the league coming off his suspension,
so I expect that Edmonton Oilers have had the Krakens numbers.
So this needs to be uh needs to be a
little bounced back game for the Crack, all right. So
w Eagles smacked up the Washington Commanders fifty five points,
fifty five to twenty three. The Eagles forced four turnovers
(01:51):
and scored on every single one of them. In Saquon
he did with Saquan always do his runs all over him.
That was my fear of coming into that game. I
figured he could have a big game. Hell, I think
he could ran for the three kind of yard that he
kept playing. But I get why the Eagles said, nah, bro,
you're good, thank you for your time. Kan City Chiefs
beat the Buffalo Bills in a great game, thirty two
to twenty nine. The Chiefs are looking to make history
and win three straight Super Bowls. Unbelievable. I'm saying that
(02:15):
over the airway. It's three, not one, not two, but three.
So I think they're gonna get it done. You're a
gambling person, go ahead and put money on them. Super
Bowl fifty nine Chiefs and Eagles in New Orleans, a
rematch of Super Bowl fifty seven, in which the Chiefs
were Victoria's thirty eight thirty five. And then, of course,
NBA wise two time All Star Isaiah Thomas is looking
(02:36):
for an NBA return. He's signing into the G League
and rejoining the Utah Jazz of Salt Lake City last
year average with thirty points per game in the G League.
And then the Sun said, hey, yo, come play, brother,
we need you, we can use your help. And so
they did that and the Sun didn't do much, but hey,
south to Isaiah Thomas hopefully get another stand in the NBA.
But the biggest news again is the Seahawks got the
(02:57):
new offensive coordinator in Clinton Kubiak. And joining us on
the big and plumbing hot line is Luke Johnson. He
covers the Saints for NOLA dot Com. Luke, how you
doing this afternoon, man?
Speaker 2 (03:08):
I'm doing great, man. Thanks for having me out.
Speaker 1 (03:10):
Not a problem. I got a first before we get
to Clint, what you would you make of the Conference
championship game between the Commanders and Eagles and Chiefs and Bills.
Speaker 2 (03:21):
Well, selfishly is as somebody who who is very fortunate
to cover this game in my in my home city. Yeah,
I think we got like the most boring possible matchup.
Yeah I was. I was really desperately hoping for like
a like a Lion's Bills Super Bowl in New Orleans.
It would have been absolutely bonkers down here for it.
(03:42):
But you know, I guess we'll just have to be
okay with with Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs trying to
try to make some history down here. And yeah, I
think the Eagles for for as as much as I
don't think there's a lot of connection with the Eagles
down here in New Orleans. I think, yeah, they have
they have some of the best players in football. Yeah,
and and yeah, I think it's going to be really
(04:04):
exciting to watch Saquon Barkley in a super Bowl. Yeah.
He's kind of redefining what the running back position is
in the NFL this year. So yeah, I mean, I
think it's gonna be a great game. You know, it's
just not it's not like the storybook super Bowl that
US writers were hoping to for it down here.
Speaker 1 (04:20):
You know, I think it's safe to say you and
I both a couple others, maybe thousands of us have
cheese fatigue. You know, we're tired of you guys going
all the way. But it is what it is. Let's
get to the bigger thing a hand. And that's who
the Seahawks have at OC, and that's Clint Kubiak. So
you cover the team. I'm curious, Luke, what were some
of the key offensive philosophy or strategies that Kubiak brought
(04:40):
to the Saints during his time with the Saints this
season as the OC.
Speaker 2 (04:45):
Yeah. Well, I think I'll just start by saying I
think the Saints would have really liked to have Clint back,
but they just understood. Yeah, they understood that, like they're
going to hire a new coach and they might hire
an offensive play caller who wants to bring in his
entire new offensive staff. You know, so they couldn't like
hold Plant back from taking another job. And I think,
(05:08):
you know, as much as they would have liked him, like,
they understood they had to let him go. He is
he is somebody who you could tell the influence that
the Kyle Shanahan the year, the year with the San
Francisco forty nine ers, and Kyle Shanahan had on him,
lots and lots and lots of pre smap motions, lots
of play action. Uh, they run the wide zone, you're
(05:30):
running running game that really his father helped kind of
make vogue in the NFL back with the Broncos in
the nineties. Uh. And you know, it looked really really
good when the Saints were healthy. It's just they were
they were really not healthy all year long, and so
it's like it's it's tough looking at the offensive numbers
(05:51):
for the Saints and making a lot of judgment on
on Koop Yak and the offensive staff just because they
only had two players make it through the season. Healthy
and they were there. They're young tackles who were their
most unproven players going into the year. So I think
he did a really nice job there. There's definitely some
room to critique him as a coach as a play caller,
(06:12):
but but yeah, I think that year in San Francisco
really really had a big impact on him and the
way he calls games. And I think, you know, with
with the right kind of circumstances and not dealing with
just the craziness that he dealt with in New Orleans,
I think he could be really really successful.
Speaker 1 (06:26):
Speaking of critiquing him, where would you critique Clint Kubia
as a play caller?
Speaker 2 (06:32):
I think the biggest thing for me was wash He
did not adjust very well. And whether you're talking about
your players being out of the lineup or you know,
making changes based on what teams were showing you. Yeah,
I think everybody remembers those first two games of the
(06:52):
year in New Orleans, where you know, all of a sudden,
Clint Kubiak two games in the year, everybody's like, wow,
next head coaching Handlett, right, and then and then they
played Philly in game three and obviously, like we've seen
this entire season like Phillies run defense. Phillies defense generally
is is phenomenal, and I think they finished the year
like number one defense in the NFL. But you know,
(07:15):
in that game, like the Saints, and the Saints had
scored forty five points per game their first two games
of the season, they were they were killing everybody. And
then uh, and then the Eagles just like you know,
they just put a bear front out there, like a
five man front and uh, and they're like, well, we're
not gonna let you run the wide zone and the
Saints just like kept trying to run it with like
no success whatsoever. Yeah, they lost that game. I think
(07:38):
it was like twelve to fifteen to twelve or something
like that. You know, it's and it was stuff like
that throughout the year where it'd be really good for
a half and then the teams would go in at halftime,
the other team would come out and and make some adjustments,
and the Saints just wouldn't follow a suit, you know,
they try to kind of go back to the well
the stuff that did work. I think that's to me,
(08:00):
the biggest critique of his game. And you know, something
I'll be interested in following when he's got like a
full deck of cards as opposed to what he was
working with last year in New Orleans. Because really, I
mean it was really really bad. But just like the
skill that he had to work like the skill players
and you know, the just rotating cast of characters in
(08:22):
the offensive line that he had to work with. I
think he did a really nice job with that. But
can he improve when he's got a better set of
players to work with. That's that's what we'll see again.
Speaker 1 (08:34):
You're listening to the Greg Bells Show with Christopher Kidd
on nineteen point three KJRFM. Anderson Hurst filling in for Greg,
and we are joined by Luke Johnson. He covers the
Saints Farnola dot com and he is on the Beacon
Plumbing Hotline.
Speaker 3 (08:45):
Luke, you mentioned that earlier in the season he was
a hot head coaching candidate, So what are your thoughts
on why he would make what someone consider a lateral
move in the same position for a different team. Besides
like the fact that you might have a new head
coach that we'll be calling plays next year, was there
any kinds of a strained relationship with him and the
team or are they gonna move on kind of anyway,
So he wanted to take the next available job.
Speaker 2 (09:06):
Yeah, no, I think the team really liked him. And
I know Clint really liked being in New Orleans. You know,
his dad obviously was head coach in Houston for a
long time, and you know, he kind of considers himself
like a Southerner now, you know, even though when he
was a kid kid he was in Denver. He's he
probably went to high school and in the Houston area.
(09:29):
So he liked it down here. I know for a
fact that he really liked him. But you know, he
just didn't have a like, he didn't have a guarantee
he was under he was under contract here. But like,
let's let's just say they hire Kellen Moore, right, the
Saints do. Kellen Moore is going to be calling the
(09:49):
offensive plays. You know, Kellen Moore is probably gonna want
his own staff. The same thing goes for Mike McCarthy
or Mike Kafka or whoever. You know, like there's no
garuarantee that any any coach they hire is going to
be like, yeah, we want Quint Kopiak on the staff
versus like their own guys that you know, coaches always
want to bring in so the Saints knew they couldn't
just like block him when he has no guarantee he's
(10:13):
going to work here, which is why they let him go.
As far as being a head coach, I don't know
if that's going to ever be something that that Clint does.
You guys will find out that he is. He is
not a very charismatic person at a podium.
Speaker 4 (10:30):
He is.
Speaker 2 (10:31):
He is incredibly dry. I really like him personally, but
like you know, when you're talking about like being the
face of a franchise, I think that's that's going to
be like a tough personality to sell. You know, he
has jokingly called himself a wet blanket before. I don't
think that like applies to his relationship with players. The
(10:51):
players really really seem to like him and like his
attention to detail, and you know how demanding he is
of them. I think they all respect him. But like,
I don't know if that personality is going to play
as a as a head coach. Like, I think you
need a lot of work in that regard.
Speaker 1 (11:08):
What was Kubiak's relationship like with some of the Saints players,
especially in terms of communication, building trust, and did you
pick on did you notice, I would say, any particular
traits or methods that might have stood out.
Speaker 2 (11:21):
Yeah, you know, like I said, I just now I
think it's it's uh. He had a lot of respect
in building for his for his attention to detail. That
was just something he heard from the players over and
over and over and over again. It was was getting
every little aspect perfect. And I think we saw it
play out, you know, when they were healthy. Derek Carr
(11:45):
for for all the criticism he gets, and you know
a lot of it is is earned. He looked really
really good at times with Clint Kubiak calm plays and
you know, Kubiak worked very very closely with the quarterbacks,
which I'm assuming you know he's he's going to be
working very very closely with Gino up there. And yeah,
(12:06):
I think that's that's really his Yeah, he's he's got
all the you know, the the Shanahan plays and and
and all that stuff in his bag. That's that's all good.
Everybody likes the structure of of it. And and you
know what he does as a play caller and how
you call me is in the headset all that stuff.
But to me, the thing that always stood out about
him was was just being very demanding about like the
(12:28):
very small small stuff in the offense that ends up
being really big when the game starts to play. So
that's that's what they're getting. And I think they're getting
a really good coach. And I'm going to be interested
to see how many of the guys from his staff
this year he brings over because I think, you know,
if he brings over his offensive line coach, in particular,
(12:49):
John Benton and UH and Rick Dennison, you know, two
guys that UH coach a long time with his dad.
I think those guys did a great job at the
Saints offensive line.
Speaker 3 (12:58):
Yeah, I mean you mentioned the offensive line and kind
of his ability to elevate kind of a struggling group
that you mentioned. Do you think that's a strength of
his because I think one of the criticisms here on
Ryan Grobb was he kept putting them in pretty tough positions,
dropping back seven steps with Gino Smith, expecting them to
block the pass rush time and time and time again,
do you think he's going to be a little bit
(13:19):
better at elevating a subpar offensive line that Seahawks currently have.
Speaker 2 (13:25):
Yeah, And I don't know how much like Clint is
going to be working with them, you know, one on one,
but I think just by the type of offense that
he calls, I think is very very friendly for an
offensive line, especially you know he has have a lot
of young guys on that line up there. There's I
think this is like Taylor made for like an athletic
(13:47):
offensive line. You getting guys out and on the move.
That the wide zone scheme is really really helpful just
with that when you when you marry it with the
pass game, with all the play action stuff that they do,
all the boots they do. You know, we've seen that
game this the Seahawks played done here a couple of
(14:08):
years ago, and Gino killed them on boots. I remember
how how good it was at that specific aspect of
his game. They're probably gonna use that a lot up
in Seattle, and that stuff helps the line, right. You know.
The sack numbers weren't great for New Orleans, but a
lot of that was because they were playing two young
quarterbacks and they were shuffling a lot of guys in
and out of the lineup. They mister center for ten
(14:30):
games and mister left guard for a bunch of games,
mister right guard for four games and they had you know,
Spencer Ratler taking five six sacks a game. But when
when everybody was in there, when it was Derek Carr
and there, I think car took like a sack a
game as the starting quarterback. And I think a lot
of that had to do with with the type of
play calls that they were using.
Speaker 1 (14:52):
Luke, you mentioned the injuries that the team dealt with.
What else stood out challenging wise where he responded in
a way that he said, Okay, despite all the injuries,
he's still responded a positive light despite everything going on
with that roster, because it was a lot to deal
with in one season.
Speaker 2 (15:10):
Yeah, I mean, I don't know, man, it's it's it's
really hard to look at anything that that happened this
last year of the Saints in a positive light. Yeah. Look,
they have they have some really really exciting players like
Chris Olave and Rashid Shiheid. Yeah, those those first like
five games of the season, Shaheed was averaging like twenty
five yards of catch. It was awesome. Alvin Kamara had
(15:34):
his best season as a professional, which is you know,
really saying something for him. Yeah, I think Derek car
looked really good, but like you know, all of those
guys missed significant time. Eric McCoy is, you know, he
just made the Pro Bowl as an alternate despite playing
in five games. Really good player played in five games,
(15:56):
five full games, you know. Was It's just it's so
hard to look at anything that happened this year and
be like that was like that's something positive to take away,
just because it was so overwhelming and it was every
single position group quarterback, running back, receiver, offensive attack, or
I guess with the exceptional offensive tackle where you had
(16:18):
a rookie and a third year player who everybody wanted
bench at the start of the year. So yeah, I
think that's it's just it's just tough. There were some
really good moments, even even in the back half of
the season when everybody was hurt. You know, I think
they they schemed up some really really nice things. Your
second half against Washington, you know, they almost came back
(16:40):
and won that game, uh second half against Tampa Bay
in the second in the last game of the season.
There's some really really good stuff in there, but it
was just wasn't consistent enough because like you know, they
were working with like their JV squad.
Speaker 1 (16:56):
You're listening to the Greg Belle Show of Christopher Kidd.
We are now joining by or and Anderson hurts, excuse me,
he's feeling in for Greg Bale. Today we got Lou
Johnson the line. He covered the stands for NOLA dot com. Look,
thanks so much again for joining us. And you mentioned
kind of having big years from big playmakers like Alvin
Kamara and Chris Olave. Do you think that's kind of
(17:17):
a part of his scheme, is just finding ways to
get your best players the ball or do you think
it's more like scheme dependent.
Speaker 3 (17:23):
If they happen to be open, you're gonna throw them
the ball. But it's just we're gonna go with the
open guy every single time.
Speaker 2 (17:31):
You know, I would say it's probably leans more towards
the ladder, but like they're they're going to get their
best players of the ball, right, Like like Alvin Kamara, who,
by the way, was coming off of like three really
down years and everybody's wondering like maybe if he was
just like kind of toast, you know, if he'd reached
that like old old running back thing, like they gave
him like twenty five plus touches and like the first
(17:53):
five games of the year, you know, so they like
fed their good players. They they dialed up they dialed
up shot plays for Rashid Shihid, and after he got out,
they did the same thing for MBS who couldn't touch
the ball in Buffalo, and all of a sudden, here
he's averaging thirty yards a catch. So like they like
dial that stuff up. But then when you look at
(18:13):
the offense and the way it's built, like they had
their quarterbacks going through like pure progression reads, right, so
it's like one, two, three out. So I think that
would work in a place like Seattle where you've got
like a lot of I mean, they've got a lot
of good skill players, right, and they've got three good
(18:35):
receivers and a couple of good running backs. Yeah, I
think that and a good quarterback. Like, I think that
stuff will work there, trying to like force the ball
to DK or you know, you know whatever. I think.
I don't know, I think that makes sense in that
type of in that type of environment where you don't
(18:56):
have like you don't have like the one guy who
needs to be targeted fifteen times a game. Yeah, I
think he will have success up there as long as
his guys stay healthy.
Speaker 1 (19:05):
There we go, Louke one word to describe the new
o C one word, give us one.
Speaker 2 (19:15):
Debating on whether I want to go with with his
his prowess as a play caller or his personality, I'll say,
I'll say, uh, I'll go with the personality and say,
try he's going to personality fair like I hope, I
hope Clint is. I hope Clint is like it can
can hear this eventually and laugh at it because like
he he knows, but man like, like he is going
to get behind a podium and it is going to
(19:35):
be It is going to be hard.
Speaker 1 (19:38):
That's all we care about. Right, That's right, That's right.
Speaker 2 (19:40):
That's all. That's all anybody cares about.
Speaker 1 (19:41):
But like, man, I appreciate your time. Man, Where can they?
Where can folks follow you and read up on the
latest news regarding Clint Kubiak and any other Saints news
because we have some Saints fans out in Seattle.
Speaker 2 (19:53):
Yeah, yeah, you can. You can read all my stuff
at NOLA dot com. We wrote extensively about Clint Kubiak
through the year, so you can read a lot of
that stuff where you can follow me on Twitter at
by Luke Johnson.
Speaker 1 (20:06):
Yeah blue Sky yet.
Speaker 2 (20:08):
Yeah, I'm on blue Scott but I don't know how
to say. You know, you can follow me at esguy
dot app or whatever I feel. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
I would. I would prefer to migrate everything over there.
But you know, it's uh just building the audience up, so.
Speaker 1 (20:23):
I hear you. In due time we'll all make that
transition over to Blue Sky. But Luke, thanks again for
your time this avenue. Appreciate it and enjoyed the rest
of your day.
Speaker 2 (20:29):
Man, all right, thanks guys.
Speaker 1 (20:31):
All right, man, there he is Luke Johnson. Can he
covers the stands for Noah dot com. You guys check
out all his work. He did just put a piece
up about Clint Kobiak making his move to Seattle, so
go check that out if you guys some time today.
Gave us a lot of good insights. So other than
the fact that he's dry, you know, that's kind of
the bummer there. But hey, like Anderson said, if you
can call plays man, we'd be dry as hell up there.
Speaker 3 (20:50):
Well, I almost think it's kind of a positive because
you know, a lot of these guys that ends up
being really good offensive coordinators. They're going to be looking
to be the next step at head coaching job, and
Luke kind of told us, I don't know if that's right.
So if he ends up being a good offensive cornator
and just wants to stay a good offensive corner, then
you're gonna keep him for.
Speaker 1 (21:05):
Todd Mounkin, right, Ben oec for like ninety years. Exactly,
see though, exactly. Yeah, you know, if you can perfect that,
why not, Ain't nothing wrong with it. Yeah, they're still
gonna pay you. They're not gonna be like, well, your
payment's gonna stop at this level. You're gonna just keep
getting paid more and more. So we'll see what happened
with Clint Kubiak. He is a new OC for the
Seahawks and some positive only thing that is kind of scary,
(21:28):
the adjustment part. I'm like, uh, oh, adjustments, how are
you going to adjust? But hopefully the Seers can figure
that out, obviously, Mike, but Donald believes in him, So
there's a stepping stone right there. He got the head
coaches belief and he believes that he can make it work.
So I'm excited to see what this offense can look
with Clint Kubiak coming up next, though it's anyone's favorite
trying to reback your text. We got a bunch of
(21:49):
feedback from you guys from the entire show, so we'll
be be that back again. You listen to the Greg
Bell Show of Christopher Kid. We got Anderson Hurst filling in.
We'll read your text next on ninety point three KJRFM.
Welcome back to the Greg Bell Show with Christopher Kidd.
I got Andrew and Hurst filling in on the ones
and twos for me this morning. I did say we're
hit the text, but before we get the text, we
actually are going to go down to Las Vegas as
(22:12):
Pete Carroll and John spy Tech are general manager. John
spy Tech addressed the media for the first time as
John John as Pete Carroll is going to be the
head coach for the Las Vegas Raiders. So a reporter
asked them straight up, what can fans or what should
fans expect from Pete Carroll.
Speaker 5 (22:29):
It's going to be unique, then they're gonna be surprised
what comes. As far as for my opportunities, you know,
I've been all over the place, you guys know know that,
and I've had great chances to start up programs that
had faltered in the past. And when we went to USC,
it was after being fired a couple of times, and
(22:50):
I've been through that, and I was a young coach
and found out I didn't know anything after my experiences,
but had had an opportunity to find myhilosophy and my
approach and following the New England days and the next
stop is USC, and that university was an extraordinary match
(23:11):
for me at the time they were struggling. We put
something together and we did something historic there on the
really based on a philosophy that came out of all
of the years before the twenty seven years. It took
me to get to that point in my coaching career, and.
Speaker 2 (23:27):
To me, I look back at.
Speaker 5 (23:30):
The days in Los Angeles at SC, it's really the
building blocks of the philosophy that we were able to
take to Seattle and to carry the mentality and approach
and the design of it and the culture that we
established into the NFL to see if it would work.
It was really just an experiment in my mind. But
in both situations, it just took us a couple of
(23:51):
years to get going. And I know that that rhythm
and I'm expecting that rhythm. I'm anticipating that we're going
to find that rhythm right here, right now, here in Vegas.
And so with the Raiders and this opportunity, i feel
like I've been there before and I'm going to bank
on that and I'm gonna follow my instincts uh and
(24:12):
support with John and to as we extend to ownership
in a way that we're going to be proud of
and we're gonna be fired up about who we are
and what we stand for. We have a great following
in the Raider Nation and they've done amazing Uh, They've
made an amazing statement globally and I'm so proud to
be part of that and recognizing that that we get
(24:34):
to represent our following and here in Las Vegas to
do it in this setting right here, where people can't
wait to come see us, they can't wait to see
what we're all about. Wherever our fans come from, we
do want to fill our stadium up with our guys.
Speaker 2 (24:46):
I know that we have a good draw for people
from out of town. There you go, there you go.
Speaker 5 (24:52):
That's what I'm talking about.
Speaker 2 (24:53):
Hey, Mark settled down a little bit, but it's real.
Speaker 5 (25:00):
This is a real challenge for us, and we're gonna
go arm in arm, John and I and we're gonna
put this thing together in a way that we're gonna
make you proud. You know, you're all wondering about timelines
and all that. It took us a few years to
get to the very top of the last couple of programs.
I was with, we're starting right now, going for it immediately.
Speaker 2 (25:21):
We're not.
Speaker 5 (25:22):
We don't have some time and we got to make
it five or six years down the road. That's not
what we're thinking. We're going to start right now to
go after it and build this team as quickly as
we can. As Johnson saw Max back there, Max, send
a message, man, we're coming after you. We're gonna come
find you guys, and get this thing rolling as soon
as possible with the highest of expectations, with a mentality
(25:44):
that we'll drive high performance in a way that hopefully
everybody's gonna hear us and they're gonna know us. And
so I'm really proud to take on that challenge, so
thrilled to be here. Thanks again to Mark and Tom
and guys, thank you. Here away we go, Let's go
Raiders Nation, the school Babies.
Speaker 1 (26:02):
I don't know how to get the text after that.
Look at that, ladies and gentlemen, Pete Carroll being announced
LA's bigg As Raiders. It's official and official last week.
But there he is, but talking about what you can
expect from ninety year old Pete Carroll gon't be coaching
until he's one hundred at this point. Good for him. Man,
Its like, that's what but that's you gotta do that. Yeah,
(26:24):
you just gotta have fun with it, and that's it's
a it's a kid's game at the end of the day,
getting paid and it's fun. And he takes that and
he does that and he coaches it. So looking forward
to seeing what the Raider the Raiders are going to
do this season. But I did mention we get the text.
We just had to fill that in there because it
was happening right now. It's live. Pete Carroll's talking to
those guys. So I felt, you know what, let's go
(26:45):
live to it players opening statements, and that's what we did.
But we did promise you guys to read some of
your texts, so Anderson, let's get to it.
Speaker 3 (26:52):
Yeah, we got a couple here from the four to five.
Bills got screwed hard. There's no doubt about it, And
same sentiments here. Two, five, Three. The Chiefs Bill game
is the worst example of NFL officiating in recent memory.
How does the league keep allowing this to happen?
Speaker 2 (27:07):
Four?
Speaker 3 (27:08):
That's a good question for you, Chris. If you had
five hundred dollars to put on the Super Bowl, which
put on the Chiefs or Eagles? Oh my gosh, you
mentioned it top the show. You're gonna say it again. Well,
the problem is you're not winning much with the Chiefs.
They're the favorite.
Speaker 1 (27:19):
Yeah, so I would still if you want to win big,
you go Eagles. If you just don't really care, let's
say you just got fiveware bucks to throw around, go
and get the Chiefs because you're gonna win a couple
hundred dollars.
Speaker 3 (27:34):
But I think they're that big of a favorite, to
be honest, I haven't seen the opening lines, but I wouldn't.
I don't think Vegas is gonna make them that huge
favor because Philly, if you're looking at the more dominant victory,
Philly looks like the team that's more ready to win.
Speaker 1 (27:45):
The one thing that separates these two teams to Saque,
it's a good point. I don't know if anyone can
slow him down. I don't even know. I'm imagining the
Eagles players in practice, like, hey, sa Qua manchio, bro,
you makeing this look bad. That's how good he is. Yeah,
so right now the line is at case one and
a half. I think that's fair. Yeah, that's like it
almost pick them. Yeah, it's right, it's fair. That's right,
(28:06):
that's perfect. So yeah, I would probably if you want
to go big or go home, go Eagles. If you're
just like I got a little money to play with,
go Chiefs. Sorry to s six.
Speaker 3 (28:15):
Talent Wise, the Bills and the Chiefs are identical, but
the Bills just got out coached. Andy Reid might be
the greatest offensive head coach ever, and Spagnol is probably
the greatest DC in history. So a little bit different take.
I think it was more coaching than it was referees.
But there are certain plays we can ee in on. Yeah,
it's second and long and they run a play action
(28:36):
pass and get a first down, all though open checko
he goes out of bounds. They able to run the
football again, and then on third and they need it
to ic the game. I believe the Bills go man
to man and somehow, some way a running back is
wide open. Oh, they did a mesh concept where you
guys are colliding and it makes it tough to follow someone.
Speaker 1 (28:58):
So Bills didn't play perfect, and we said you kind
of gotta play perfect beat the chief And what does
that have to do with something that this texture texted
about coaching? So that's another great point. That's why I
don't believe in the Oh the ref screwge you continue
reading and just what else we got?
Speaker 3 (29:11):
After the two of six, Andy says refs no impact replay.
Looked at the fourth down play and it would have
changed the spot if it was obvious. Never once did
I think they missed that one.
Speaker 2 (29:21):
That's fair.
Speaker 1 (29:21):
I'm not gonna say you're wrong or right. I hear you.
It's Andy Red texting in wow, shout out to Andy.
Speaker 3 (29:28):
Okay, last one before we break two five three thirty percent,
Refs thirty percent, Bills play calling forty percent, Taylor Swift.
Speaker 1 (29:34):
All right, So three six oi lie last one five
hundred dollars pays a profit of three eighty five with chiefs.
So there you go. Yeah, you know it does you're
not winning big here you go with the Eagles, You're
gonna you're gonna get a little money. So ye, I
gotta said, if you got a little house mane to
play with, put the chiefs down. But if you're go ahead, Sorry,
one last really good text, go ahead two O six.
Peyton Manning was to Tom Brady as Josh Allens to
Patrick Mahomes. And you know what, no one says, Peyton
(29:57):
Manning's not great exactly. That's fine. Yeah, that's my entire
point with Josh. He's gonna be great. He's gonna get one.
I think he's gonna get one. It just might have.
It's a great comparison, honestly. There you go. Well, listen,
I've seen the mayor walking around these holes, sir. We're
gonna wrap with him next. You've been listening to the
Greg bell Show with Christopher Kid Anderson Hurst from the
ones into his filing and helping a brother out. So
(30:17):
the Mayor is coming up next. We'll find out what
he has planned for his show today. Welcome back to
the Greg Bells Show with Christopher Kidd. Instead, we got
the Mayor in here now, the great, the one knowing.
I just say the mayor and furness mayor. How you
doing good? What's up?
Speaker 4 (30:37):
What's happening? Where's everybody out today?
Speaker 1 (30:39):
Off? I don't know, just enjoying their time away.
Speaker 4 (30:42):
Oh man, I'm jealous. It's okay, I'm jealous, buddy.
Speaker 1 (30:46):
I'm out of here in may so it's all good.
Speaker 4 (30:47):
Oh really okay?
Speaker 1 (30:48):
Yeah, but that's a long way from that.
Speaker 4 (30:50):
Long that's you got a long runway, buddy.
Speaker 1 (30:52):
I me bringing that up now doesn't even matter, No,
But it's like I said, that's a that's a long,
long runway right there, my friend, is a long runway.
So that yeah, it's okay, though, would you guys discuss
today everything?
Speaker 5 (31:07):
Man?
Speaker 1 (31:08):
You know the chiefs. I remember last week I stated,
I'm getting fatigued of it. But at the same time
you kind of mentioned it. They're doing something that's never
been done before, so you gotta for me, it's it's
cool to see that.
Speaker 4 (31:19):
So I was so torn watching that thing. I was.
It was weird.
Speaker 1 (31:24):
I wasn't torn, but I was more of the understanding of, Okay, Chris,
they're about to do something that's never been done. Wouldn't
you want to see that in your lifetime? I didn't
grow up to see. I mean, I was alive when
Jordan was doing his thing, but I wasn't able to
watch it. Yeah, I being able to witness something that's
never happened.
Speaker 4 (31:38):
But it's a good question because I'm trying to think
back to what I thought when because I did watch it,
you know, and.
Speaker 1 (31:46):
Even with Tom Brady, I know he's never won back
to back to back three in a row, but he's
had two here.
Speaker 4 (31:52):
Louise, you know what was wild. There is a the
Jordan comparison is a good one. I haven't thought of that.
I'm gonna talk about that because because when Jordan played
for the Bulls, not when the ill fated disaster of
the Wizards.
Speaker 1 (32:05):
But who don't count that?
Speaker 4 (32:06):
Okay, no, that's exactly it. It's like each playing for
the Marlins.
Speaker 1 (32:10):
Who he did.
Speaker 4 (32:10):
I don't even call that exactly exactly right, should never
have happened. But when he was, when Jordan was in
that world, you just they didn't lose, like you just
knew they would win. It doesn't matter if you're playing
the Blazers, the Sonics, the Rockets, whoever, it doesn't matter.
Speaker 1 (32:26):
It's kind of how I'm filling with Mahomes, but he
has to do it first. But right now, I just
I don't see how they lose, to be honest, when
they have him and their defense is playing pretty damn
good as well.
Speaker 4 (32:37):
So wow, though the team they played yesterday put up
some points, oh they did, absolutely the team that they're
playing in the Super Bowls to say, you.
Speaker 1 (32:43):
Know, Saquon Barkley will have a lot to say that
was Were.
Speaker 4 (32:46):
You surprised by the offense and that I mean.
Speaker 1 (32:50):
From the Eagles?
Speaker 4 (32:52):
Yeah, no, I scored twenty one in the fourth court, which.
Speaker 1 (32:55):
You also have to remember though they had four turnover
they scored on as West twenty eight points. Yeah, if
you erase those turnovers, not taking not just crediting the
egos for forcing them, because it wasn't fluky like they
punched the ball out. They didn't. The commanders were secure
with the football. Okay, I get it. That's twenty eight points.
So my math served fifty five mins twenty eight it's
(33:16):
a lot closer. Yeah, And unfortunately they just I'm just.
Speaker 4 (33:20):
Looking through here. So the fumble that that Barkley scored
you know on the first play, yep, right exactly, so
you got you know, you got a fifty two yard
touchdown after the fumble. Oh no, sorry, I'm sorry, Well
go back, let's see kickoff. Okay, So the fumble then
they get the fumble touchdown. So that was a six
play drive. How short was the forty eight yards?
Speaker 2 (33:42):
Right?
Speaker 4 (33:43):
So not so kind of a short field? Look at
fumble you get the Washington twenty four touchdown, short field kickoff, kickup,
fumble ball at the forty nine mid you know, fairly
short field. Yeah, interception Philadelphia twenty an eighty yard drive,
but still a touchdown. So yeah, I mean they three
of those four they have short fields, right, So that
(34:05):
does change things quite a bit.
Speaker 1 (34:06):
It does. But back to your Jordan thing, the discussion
we were having, I just think, I guess I gotta
respect it as much as I'm tired of it. At
the same time, it's like, this is really cool. If
Mahomes does this, he's knocking on Brady's door. He's only
he's a young fellaw as you would say, young fella,
a young fella. There's no telling what he can do
in five to eight years. One thing is attrition. Can
he stay healthy? So that's another step. But hell, you
(34:29):
just called Brady hey man, how do I avoid sacks
the way you did show me your ways. Those are
discussions Tom Brady would probably love to have with you.
So that's why I'm kind of excited to see what
Mahomes does. I want him to win, but also kind
of want see something new. But then also think, in
the back of my mind, damn, this is something that
Jordan did. You know he just ran through the league
and no one ever said, Oh, Charles Barkley, his legacy
takes a hit because he lost.
Speaker 4 (34:50):
To Jeorge Shack tells him that all the time.
Speaker 1 (34:53):
Shack's just not being Shack has some rings, so he's
always gonna tease me about that. But in the reality
of situation, I look at Josh Allen. That's something me
Anderson talked about. I don't think this is a hit
to his legacy. You're just wrong, Era, Bro, I'm sorry,
You're just going to against my Homes year in and
year out.
Speaker 4 (35:08):
Yeah, the Josh Allen thing is a hard one, right
because it's not just Josh Allen's Lamar Jackson too.
Speaker 1 (35:12):
Yeah. Yeah, that's another player, Like I don't think though
they're well, unfortunately, Lamar lost to Josh, and I thought
that was that was his year to beat him, but
he didn't get it done. That It's plain and simple.
He didn't get it done. Was it his fault? No,
I thought he recovered on mistakes that he made. He
put his team in position to win the game. The
team just didn't get it done. So you know, chalk
(35:32):
it up to, well, hope hopefully next year. So hopefully
next year one of those two will break through. I
don't know who it's gonna be.
Speaker 4 (35:38):
Yeah, because I did hear you mentioned earlier like, oh,
you know he's gonna get one in La Mars get
Ain't no guarantee.
Speaker 1 (35:44):
There is never a guarantee.
Speaker 4 (35:45):
But I mean because I mean, I'll give you example,
Damn Marino. Yeah, Damn Marino got there, right, got there,
that got there. And you know, I mean Joe Burrow
loses to the Rams three years ago.
Speaker 1 (35:56):
Yeah, so that's someone that There's all three dudes in
the AFC. They're all really good, elite.
Speaker 4 (36:01):
Quarterbacks that are like I mean, if you're ranking today's quarterbacks.
Speaker 1 (36:06):
In order, and no one's gonna argue with you.
Speaker 4 (36:07):
All three of those guys, all three of those guys
in mahomes right.
Speaker 1 (36:10):
Yeah, it's it's a really they're in a they're in
the perfect realm. But then you have Jordan, which is
Mahomes and it's like, well, what do you do with that? Well,
you hope he has a bad game. Well he doesn't
have bad games. You just hope other things around him
don't go his way and his guys step up. Xavier
Worthy guy steps up a team, a player that was
basically the Bills said, nah, we'll trade out of it.
(36:31):
We're good. Chiefs said, well, we will take him, and
they're using him. He is part of the reason they
won the interception catch. However you want to phrase it,
Xavier Worthy is part of the play.
Speaker 4 (36:40):
How about p right on the last on the on
the clinching play hadn't touched the ball game.
Speaker 1 (36:44):
We talked about the coaching aspect because we asked the question, Hey,
is it more of the officials that kind of gave
the game away? Or was it on what you think
it was a lot of people. Of course, all the
physics are cheating, but a text at a great point, well,
what about those coaching players where respect where they draw
it perfectly? Third and nine it was, and they.
Speaker 4 (37:02):
Coaching phishing is awful in the NFL. That's a game
like it just is it's absolutlutely awful and and it
just it's the problem with the fishing in the NFL
is it's not It has not kept up with the
evolution of the game in terms of the you know,
players getting bigger, stronger, faster. The officials are just getting
older and slower. But that aside, you know that was
(37:24):
there was no officiating issue yesterday. It was the two
better teams won, period. End of story.
Speaker 1 (37:29):
Well said before, Actually, who do you have going today?
Speaker 4 (37:33):
We got I'm excited twelve twenty. Today we're going to
talk to a guy named Joe Woods. He was the
Saints defensive coordinator, so he worked with offensive coordinator. Yeah,
so we'll talk to y about what what Seattle's getting
out of their new offensive coordinator. Mike Sanders. Going to
join us earlier today at one o'clock because we're going
(37:53):
to play some Pete Carroll press conference audio at one thirty.
He just had his news conference in Vegas, so we'll
hear what our former coach has to say about going
to the Raiders. And then on the two o'clock hour,
Jimmy Rodgers, new Washington State head football coach, will be
in studio with us today, So there you.
Speaker 1 (38:06):
Nice, all right, but don't touch that down. We have
Mayor and Jesseman coming up next on nine of You
Going Three kJ r FM
