Then to tune in on Sunday, February ninth, there Super
Bowl fifty nine live from New Orleans. Groundbreak game. But
as far as groundbreaking stuff, oh, we got some breaking news.
First off, you got the sounder there, Chris, a little

(01:09):
breaking news thing that we can chime in here with.
Asked you with about what happened about roughly thirty minutes ago,
cracking fans get ready for this. The Seattle cracking had
placed goaltender Philip Grubauer on waivers wow for the purpose
of being signed to the Coachella Valley Firebirds. It's happened

(01:32):
last night. More of a tough ride that Groovebauer had again.
You can say four goals on five or four goals
that he allowed four or five that went in weren't
his fault, but the numbers just don't lie. He's getting
the rough ride right now, and the question is who
do they go to now backing him up. You talked
about this with John Foresln. Where do you feel the
cracking are at with Golten? Do you want to have

(01:53):
him go to the minor leagues here for this or
do you want to have him pluck somebody out the
free agent market, waiver wire?

Speaker 2 (01:57):
Whatever?

Speaker 1 (01:58):
Have you make a trade? Fill this in behind Joey
to Cord four nine four five one. What time We
just add Johnny on about a few minutes ago on
the Beacon Plumbing hotline. But we got to get to here,
our man, our myth our legend. Here from the football side,
your friend, our friend, Chris kids friend, Greg Bell's friend,
my friend everybody's friend, the one, the only, the world

(02:20):
famous Hugh Mellon joining us on the Beacon Plumbing hot line.

Speaker 2 (02:24):
Good morning.

Speaker 3 (02:25):
Can't live up to that, but thanks for a nice
Word's good to be with you.

Speaker 1 (02:28):
Uh agree, I'm tired of you. I said this earlier
in coffees right now, flowing through my veins right now.
I think we had two games in two days, travel
involved last night, got home from the postgame show for
the krack and got this ready here because I don't
want to sound like a dummy talking with you as well.
You you have high standards. I got mine too, But
you do this here for the love.

Speaker 2 (02:49):
Yeah, it's a labor of love, of course.

Speaker 1 (02:52):
Yeah, we're all talking about we have to do some
kind of football and hockey podcast mashup here. By the way,
it would be glorious. Well would need to see it.

Speaker 4 (03:00):
I actually want to get h on YouTube, but I
know if he has Hugh has other I know. I
haven't asked you about it, Hugh, we needed to do
a football breakdown on YouTube?

Speaker 1 (03:09):
What about that?

Speaker 5 (03:10):
Uh?

Speaker 2 (03:12):
I do a lot of breaking down on KGr. I'm
way over over.

Speaker 3 (03:17):
Exposed on as it is, But I don't know, Well, Uh, well,
we'll have to talk about the details on that.

Speaker 1 (03:25):
Okay, okay, fair enough there there there is such thing
as mashups and remix this year. Why can't we do
this here for the podcast space as well?

Speaker 2 (03:32):
But yeah, well.

Speaker 3 (03:35):
Look, I I you know, kJ R is my one
outlet right now, and I'm happy when you guys call
me and hey can you come on?

Speaker 2 (03:45):
Uh you know, I.

Speaker 3 (03:48):
Feel sorry for the P one listeners listen all day
because because they hear too much of me. But there's
a lot of things going on, exciting things with football,
the Seahawks and conference championship games, so it's all good.

Speaker 1 (04:01):
Well, I think for the first things first part of
this here Clinton Kubiak, we're still fresh out the hiring
here for him, and you know, just kind of going
here through this because you always love to think when
you got you bring a guy in here who's a
young gun, what he kind of reminds you of. And
two nings that have been thrown out there, one for
obvious reasons, next Kyle Shanahan, maybe even the next Sean McVeigh.

(04:24):
I mean, the elements of his offense, motions, misdirections, play action,
wide zone, deep shots, mainly attack in the middle of
the field here. What are your thoughts on that?

Speaker 3 (04:34):
Yeah, well, I think there's a lot of attributes about it.
I'm in the use of the two tight ends or more.
Where the Seahawks were twenty fifth a year ago or
this this year, I should say the Saints were second
in the NFL the use of an extra either tight
end or running back in the backfield. The Seahawks were seventeenth.

(04:57):
The Saints were number one. You mentioned the outside zone.
That's a real key part of this. I played for
Clint Kubiak's father, Gary, He was my quarterback coach when
I was with the Broncos, and kind of listened to
Alex Gibbs, who was the offensive line coach at the time,
who was thought to be the godfather of the outside zone.

Speaker 2 (05:16):
The Clint Goobie is going to use that a lot.

Speaker 3 (05:19):
Last year, Can nine Kenneth Walker was number thirty three
in the percentage of his runs that were outside zone,
ranked thirty third. Alvin Kamara was ranked fourth. Here's a
little bit of a concerning figure with respects to the
outside zone. Alvin Kamara averaged four point four yards per

(05:43):
attempt on the outside zone. CAN nine just two point eight.
So that's a scheme that's gonna come in. That's gonna
be the basis for their entire offense. And I don't
put that on Canine at all, but they're going to
have to block for him better and they're going to
have to get more productivity on that outside zone than

(06:05):
K nine got at two point eight yards on that play.
In twenty twenty four.

Speaker 4 (06:10):
Here we saw the defense start off a little shaky,
but they made some moves. The D line played better,
the linebacking corps got better, and I think they finished
off a lot better than they started. Going to Mike
McDonald's second season as the mastermind on the defensive side
of things, where does Hugh want to see improvement to
start the season off?

Speaker 3 (06:31):
Well, I think that the biggest concern for the defense
in my opinion, I think they just need a star
edge rusher. I think that that I equate that to
the middle of a lineup. You're your four or five
hitter in baseball. I don't know about a hockey analogy.

Speaker 2 (06:47):
You're gonna have to your center forward? Is that a position?

Speaker 1 (06:52):
If you have a good center and maybe even two
really really good ones, you are a Cup contender.

Speaker 3 (06:57):
Hugh, there you go, all right, So I think that's
the that's the basis for disruption, and I think that Mafe,
you know, is their best. But I think ideally he's
a good, solid two when there's a better defensive end
on the opposite side. You know, I watched with keen
interest Jared Verse, who was drafted by the Rams this year,

(07:21):
A couple of spots behind Byron Murphy. I'm not here
to be disappointed or express disappointment in.

Speaker 2 (07:27):
The pick of Murphy.

Speaker 3 (07:28):
I think I think he had a solid year, but
the facts are Verse had a better year, and I
see the impact that he had on that defense.

Speaker 2 (07:36):
I think the Seahawks needs something like that.

Speaker 1 (07:38):
Let's get into the Geno Smith stuff here, and you know,
Hugh klint Kubiak has a stout history of working with quarterbacks.
I mean, Gino in this offense could maybe be onto something.
And the Seahawks go with a veteran presence here. That's
a start. Contrast with Ryan Grubb. I mean, would he
win a Super Bowl maybe in Philly.

Speaker 2 (07:56):
Yes.

Speaker 1 (07:57):
I love this conversation earlier, and I love this because
I guess I'm sick and tired of going through social
media and people assume a guy who wins but has
no help has got to be carried. I mean, it
couldn't be more outrageous. I think he needs help, but
I mean where does the help come in? At highest
priority is a defense or receivers. And there's one assumption

(08:18):
that Geno Smith will benefit being under center a lot
more than he was last year. What do you think, Well, yeah.

Speaker 2 (08:26):
Under center.

Speaker 3 (08:27):
I mean last year the percent where's it shotgun? The
swat at fifty seven point five percent?

Speaker 2 (08:36):
That was That was.

Speaker 3 (08:40):
No, no, no, no, it was seventy seven percent. That
was eighth in the NFL. The fifty seven point five
that was the Saints. Sorry I transposed it. So the
Saints were ranked twenty eight with Clint Kubiak. The Seahawks
were eight. So yeah, I think that's a factor. I
think the team that that meshes under center the best

(09:02):
is the Detroit Lions and Jared Goff. They're they're under center,
I believe the most in the NFL, but if not
the most in one or two. And then Jared Goff
is the undisputed king of under center play action where
he will fake that stretch play with Jamir Gibbs and

(09:23):
then he'll he's very comfortable with his back to the defense,
and then he turns, puts his foot in the back.

Speaker 2 (09:29):
In the ground.

Speaker 3 (09:30):
And then, particularly if you filter the following three attributes
under center UH play action and then over the middle
where you have to quickly locate the defenders that you
have turned your back to. There there are guys in
this league that are really getting a lot of productivity
out of that. And by being under center, there's that

(09:52):
that stretch play. The angles are better, the timing, the
running back. You know, let's say, you know, if I'm
Gene Smith under center and I've got I've got canine
behind me, I can go up and you can be
you can run a check with me. Stretch where you're
gonna go left or right? Now I read the front

(10:12):
where the bubble is, where the safeties are coming down.
There's a number of attributes about the defense. But but
basically I I I pick left or right. Well, I
can't do that from shotgun. I could do it from pistol,
but the timing doesn't hit quite as well. And and
you and and then it doesn't marry the the UH

(10:33):
the play action as well, because in play action from
excuse me, from under center. Now I got a burst
to the left or right, I got my the football
in right on my belt belt buckle. The defense doesn't
know where it is and they've got to defend the stretch.
And yet I still present a threat on play action.
And so I think that at his best we had

(10:56):
Geno uh in play action and twenty twenty two he
was seventh in attempts out of play action and eighth
in passer rating.

Speaker 2 (11:07):
Well that fell to this year.

Speaker 3 (11:09):
Fifteenth in attempts and thirty fourth and passes passer rating.
That's those are play action numbers. So I think that
we've had some success with Gino in play action. There's
the undoubtedly going to be a more featured part. I
mentioned the Lions because because you think of how good
they are, they're the best at it. The Seahawks have

(11:31):
to get it a lot closer to the Lions than
where they've been.

Speaker 1 (11:35):
I mean, what about the tools also, because I mean
I tend to believe that the QB is and the
be all end all me it's important for the weapons
sense of it. But Kubiak worked with Brian Perdy and
we all know his story. He's also worked with guys
who have resumes like her cousins and Derek Carr. I mean,
JS ends there, Dkay's your vertical threats. So how much
more can he take? Geno Smith if this goes on

(11:57):
long term.

Speaker 3 (11:59):
Well, first of all, you know, you know, I think
you mentioned brock Perdy perhaps in a disparaging sense, And look,
I will agree with you certainly on some counts.

Speaker 2 (12:09):
I got two eyes just.

Speaker 3 (12:10):
Like you, and I can say, you know, probably he
has the weakest arm of all thirty two quarterbacks. But
if you look at all the advanced metrics, and I
think it's relevant to talk about the forty nine ers
here for a second, because Clint Kubiak was the passing
game coordinator, although we know that Shanahan was calling the plays,

(12:30):
but there's there's gonna be some influence there. But getting
back to Purdy, yes, the weakest arm, decent athlete, not elite,
but in all of the advanced metrics, guys, he pushes
that ball down the field as much as anybody, and
what he does he has just some of the best

(12:51):
anticipation He intoit. Tagavloa, I think have the best anticipation,
and you know, it reminds me of Dan Fouts. You know,
I think it has the best of all the great ones.
And I'm not a big Fouts fan, but he was.
He was spectacular in his anticipation. So what you'd see
from Purdy is, uh, he'd dropped back and just throw
this lollipop over over the middle of the field, but

(13:14):
he would throw it so early that defenders couldn't react
it and it just almost like flyers up. He just
lobbed over the linebackers. And then here's Brandon Aiyuk just
coming out of nowhere on the screen and he's flying
across the middle and he hits him on the dead run.
So so I think there's some aspects of Purdy that

(13:34):
that you have to give the man credit for. And
uh and and maybe we'll see some of that and
and and and try and pull some of that out
with Gino, that anticipation and throwing those those deep intermediate cuts.

Speaker 2 (13:48):
Hugh.

Speaker 4 (13:49):
I'm curious on the discussion around the game managers versus
difference makers. I think we'd all agree that Patrick Mahomes
isn't a he's a difference maker. But Jalen Hurts, where
do you do you stand with him? Is he a
difference maker? With his ability to use his legs an
fle the football with accuracy, or do you see him
more of a game manager now with Sakwon Barkley and

(14:10):
how they're able to use the run and he's not
asked to do a lot out there.

Speaker 2 (14:14):
Sure?

Speaker 3 (14:15):
Sure, Well, I think to have the conversation, I think
you have to have a clarity of terms. I'm not
saying use my terms, but I think we should, you know,
whatever the terms are. If we're going to say a
game managemer a game manager, rather, you have to define it.
Right now, I think it's commonly I'm referred to it's
it's it's a little bit of a pejorative. Oh he's

(14:36):
a game manager, right, it's you know, a quarterback generally, Well,
what do you mean I'm a game manager? You know
that the implication is that you know, I don't have
the skills set to carry the team. So so, but
if you look at Pat Mahomes' career, he was a
guy that if you just go by the numbers and

(14:56):
how he threw the football, he was a guy early
in his career throwing the ball deep down the field.
The advanced metrics his his his attempted air yards his
completed air yards. I mean, he was a guy throwing
the ball down the field. And now, uh, you know,
he's got that reputation and and and now he can
just rest on that reputation because all the metrics say
he's a dink and dunker. The Chiefs rely on run

(15:19):
after the Cats now, and so is Pat Mahomes a
game manager will most of the time he is, But
then he has that that live arm, and he can
he can stuff the ball in the mailboxes down the field,
and so he's one of the best on third and longs.

Speaker 2 (15:34):
You know, he's right at the top.

Speaker 3 (15:35):
So so so I think everybody's managing the game on
some level. I would just say that to answer your
question on Jalen Hurts, I think I think that he's
a below average quarterback that is benefiting from the defense
that is number one in the NFL in defensive points allowed,

(15:56):
with a offensive line that Pro Football Focus ranked number
one this season with a receiver tandem in aj Brown
and in DeVante Smith that the combination of those two
Pro Football Focus had them the highest ranked tandem ahead
of the Bengals with Tamar Chasen t Higgins they were second,

(16:19):
and he has sake one Barkley, I think he has
more and and oh Dallas Goddard a very athletic tight
end that's clutch on third down. So I think if
you put Jalen Hurts on the Giants with that offensive line,
and particularly before they acquired Neighbors as a receiver, I
think that Giant fans would be saying, this guy is
a bottom five quarterback in the NFL. What can we
do to trade up to get a quarterback to replace him?

(16:42):
So that's an example of look, look if you have
a good enough team around you and Hurts, you know, look,
he had a beautiful go ball down the sideline in
the in the NFC Championship game, he hit aj Brown
right inscribed a J. Brown at two yards of separation.
That was a relatively easy go ball, but no go
ball is really So he had a good game and
he represents a running threat. He's strong, He's not really fast,

(17:05):
but he's strong fast enough, you know.

Speaker 2 (17:08):
I think he's the height of a game manager.

Speaker 1 (17:10):
Hey, here before we go Jackson Smith and by going
to the Pro Bowl, and this was a breakout year
for him, career best marks every category. Is it healthy
to expect one hundred receptions again next season and over
eleven hundred yards.

Speaker 3 (17:25):
Well, I feel like I got to answer in two ways.
You mentioned Pro Bowl. I think that the Pro Bowl,
that definition has just been muddied.

Speaker 2 (17:37):
It's a mockery.

Speaker 3 (17:40):
And so you know, here, Russell Wilson gets to call
himself a ten time pro bowler because he keeps, you know,
filling in on the alternates where most veterans say no thanks.
And so I don't really call Jackson Smith a Pro
Bowl now pro bowler. He was on the precipice. He
had a marvelous season.

Speaker 2 (17:57):
It was great.

Speaker 3 (17:58):
I love Jackson Smith and Jigga Kid, great humble competitor, playmaker, clutch,
love him. I'm not gonna call him a pro bowler
until he earns a Pro Bowl spot. But to your
other question, yeah, I absolutely think.

Speaker 2 (18:14):
Like here's the thing.

Speaker 3 (18:16):
Everybody on the offense eats on one condition.

Speaker 2 (18:21):
Just think of this.

Speaker 3 (18:21):
You know those long on those long tables they see
in like those medieval shows. You know, the long dinner
tables that go Think of a long dinner table going
right down.

Speaker 2 (18:32):
The hash marks of a field.

Speaker 3 (18:34):
As long as you're on the field, you can eat.
What do I mean by that if Clint Kubiak comes
in and runs the ball more efficiently, well, Now, the
worst thing that can happen for anybody trying to mass
statistics is to have the punter come on the field.
Nobody wants to see Dixon, Okay, So as long as
Dixon doesn't show up, and you're out on that field

(18:56):
and you're huddling and you're running another snap, you got
a chance to catch more balls. Kenneth Walker has a
chance to get more touches, more more yards, more touchdowns,
and all the receivers, DK, everybody, everybody gets to eat.
As long as the offenses between the hash marks, you're
a great field as opposed to on the sideline drinking
gate rate watching Dixon again.

Speaker 1 (19:18):
Uh, you're great here. We could go on more and
there's maybe a mashup podcast still for us in the future.
I'm going to call your people soon. But thanks again.

Speaker 2 (19:26):
That indeed, all right. Always good to be with you guys.

Speaker 1 (19:28):
All right, Humil and joining us in the Beacon plumbing
hotline A lot to get to. Hey, I like gatorade
as well. Back in the day when we had that,
Neil for football got us through for that. I didn't
get a chance to mention it.

Speaker 4 (19:39):
But well, I read it now from our two five
listener two five three listener Keith Miller can't get enough
of Hugh Millan and his pig skin knowledge sign all
kJ RP one. So yes, gotta gotta have few to
break it down. What I was gonna have a follow
up with you about Jalen Hurts because I was gonna say, oh,

(19:59):
let's just Jalen Hurst for Gino?

Speaker 1 (20:01):
How would that work out?

Speaker 4 (20:02):
But we we might be able to get to that
next week, just because you know, I love the breakdown on.

Speaker 1 (20:06):
I love the simple question that we had yesterday in
these air waves. I mean, you put Gino on that
Eagles team, does he make the Super Bowl?

Speaker 4 (20:12):
The answer is yes, Oh well yeah, I think and
I think you would back that up.

Speaker 1 (20:16):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (20:17):
The fact that Hugh, you know, he thinks Jalen's he's
an okay quarterback to paraphrase when he broke down, But
I also think that he as Hugh mentioned, he has
a lot of weapons around him, and then having Saquan,
just what more could you ask for? You have the
run game when you need to throw it. Hugh mentioned
the deep ball he threw to aj Brown down the sideline,

(20:37):
a goal ball, beautiful ball set up perfectly. It all
worked out. But let's say he doesn't have all the
great things around him, how does he look? And it
might get very interesting. So we'll see how they do
in the Super Bowl. But I just thought that was
a fascinating answer from you there.

Speaker 2 (20:51):
What you think?

Speaker 1 (20:51):
Four nine, four or five one on the Tulmer Dude
text line. Also Philip Grubauer breaking news about roughly twenty
two minutes ago, the Kraken waving him. He's been placed
on waivers. If he clears, he'll go to the AHL
with their affiliate, the Coachella Valley Firebirds. But just breaking
here earlier, Gonna get your thoughts on this again, four
nine four five one on the Tlomar Dude text line.

(21:13):
All that coming up next on ninety three three KJIRFM.

thanks man. Hopefully there's no rain. I got the new

(22:20):
griddle going, got a few things already cooking on that thing,
and I'm thinking of smashburgers. A Smashburger fan, Chris, Are
you kidding me?

Speaker 2 (22:29):
Yes?

Speaker 4 (22:29):
Absolutely, I'm not kidding, But yeah, I'm not kidding, but
yeah I am all in.

Speaker 1 (22:33):
That is my IB, A mof of five hours of sleeping,
dumb and coffee in my veins reaction. All right, yes, no,
maybe so can't wrong with smashburgers, the ones I make.
I've got like this gooey like honey mustard, aoli that's
dripping right on Downes candy bacon, also sauted onions. Okay,

(22:54):
you gotta stop, man, because I'm about three slices of
American cheese were just cart and right there. Can you
just stop? You're not helping foe.

Speaker 4 (23:06):
When it's game time, it's Tully time, and it's time
to read back some of your tech that you've been
doing tech weeks ago all morning. So we'll go start
with the breaking news with Grubauer. Yeah, from the four
two five. The Grubauer move was one they had to make.
It's unfortunate, but as the stats just diasily. Actually, but
as the stats show, he's the worst going to the

(23:26):
NHL this season.

Speaker 1 (23:27):
He couldn't remain on this team. How do you take that?
I think it's a sad ending because when they brought
him in before the inaugural season, there was so much
hope of what he did. But again we had this
conversation here in the football since I mean to quote
an ancient proverb, one finger does not lift pebble. And

(23:48):
he had some big help with the Colorado Avalanche. Yeah,
and they they moved on from him, and they proved that, Hey,
you can put a guy in like say Darcy Kemper,
who doesn't have the world's greatest numbers for his career,
but good enough to win a Stanley Cup, and putting
him here in this situation with what they had defensively,

(24:09):
the lack of offense, sometimes just the roster and how
much of a turnover it was over and over season one,
it did not help him out. Season two much more
better help as well. Martin Jones sufficient backup, better if
I took the reins for quite a while. But again,
you're putting him here in tough situations. Plus his age
is getting up there and the numbers say so there

(24:31):
is declining play with that. So it's a sad ending.
It really is, because he's been one of the most
gracious human beings. I go into that dressing room day
after day, always up to either give you what's on
his mind, or even just say hello for just a
brief chat for about you know, two minutes or so,
and I'd say that, I say so, it really is

(24:51):
a sad ending. I mean, if we saw the last
of Philip Grubauer last night. It's tough to stomach here
because The very last shot that he gave up for
a goal was that fifty foot by Jackson Lacomb. So
as far as where they go right now, we'll see.
But should he clear waivers, by the way, that's a
wait and see process for twenty four hours. If somebody
claims him, this whole five point nine million dollars salary

(25:14):
annually's off the books. If he does not, the Crack
and have got to eat a portion of that, and
their cap hits at about four point seven mili from
the two five to three.

Speaker 4 (25:22):
I mean, he hasn't been great, but what is the
other option behind Joey.

Speaker 1 (25:27):
As of right now? You got to find something better.
You gotta find something better here. I mean, the Pittsburgh
Penguins did this whole dance with Tristan Jarry, and funny enough,
his last game, oh the Crack can burn the end
of that one. They beat Pittsburgh the very next day,
they wave Tristan Jarry, who was a mainstay for a
few seasons as well.

Speaker 3 (25:47):
So we'll see.

Speaker 1 (25:47):
I mean, they could easily call up Alishteshka here for
the miners. They can see who's out there on the
waiver wire or free agency wise, make a trade additionally,
But I mean proof is proof. I mean the days
of a guy going seventy games as your number one guy.
And I had Turner Stevenson last night on the Postgame Show.
He won a Stanley Cup with New Jersey. Who is

(26:09):
this goaltender Mark tam Brodor one of the greatest of
all time? But that was a different era, a different era.
He's playing sixty five seventy games a year. You just
don't do that anymore.

Speaker 5 (26:21):
Now.

Speaker 1 (26:21):
You've got to have two guys who are carrying the
workload like it's a tandem, like it's a rotation in baseball. Yeah,
And if you have one guy who's playing well like
the cord Is and one guy whose numbers are on
the struggle bus, it isn't gonna happen. It isn't gonna happen.
So you have to find an upgrade out there somewhere.

Speaker 4 (26:39):
Well, Mike, we did get a few happy birthday texts
from listeners, so thank you. Shout out to what is
it thirty six? So happy birthday, Mike, and I believe
the four two.

Speaker 1 (26:46):
Five is well. Happy birthday, Mike. I'm forty four years
of age and still trying to feel like I'm thirty
four right now. There you go, something's coming up here.
And once we get through the whole items of the day,
kids on from school, wife home, we got some pretty
good pizza in uh right up aheader for us. I
can't go a big huge Sicilian pie, deep cut square.

(27:13):
I'll throw the met toppings on there. I'm a happy cander.
I'll work out tomorrow.

Speaker 4 (27:17):
Well, Mike was letting us know that he had a
rough start just getting here just because of traffic accidents,
you name it. So Mike and I pose the question,
back in the day or even today, what do you
use to get around? Are you using your iPhone Maps?
Are you using Ways? Whatever the case may be. Back
in the day, I had to use See.

Speaker 1 (27:36):
I tried Ways a while and I just had so
many connection problems with that. I just said, and I forget.
I'm going back to Apple Maps now. Well, I we
posed a question like what are you using? What did
you use? What have you used?

Speaker 4 (27:48):
And growing up there's from the two oh six Thomas
Guide that was what that person used.

Speaker 1 (27:54):
My dad had Thomas Guide. I love looking at that thing.
When I was a kid and in high school.

Speaker 4 (28:01):
We had two people growing up on the Thomas guy.
Interesting that. Yes, from the two o six and two
five three, we also had gentleman over sixty or a
young lady over sixty using Ways, which unfortunately for Mike
he had connection issue. So ways wasn't working for you. Clearly,
the whole pepperoni, not pepperoni, the whole pineapple on pizza.

Speaker 1 (28:23):
Well, this is a lot coming in on that, and
I was surprised you got some fans too, Chris.

Speaker 4 (28:29):
People are agreeing. Only person that did well not is
Travis the only one? Well, I'm gonna read Travis because
this is hilarious. From the two o six kid, it's pizza,
not a damn ham Keep pineapple off.

Speaker 1 (28:41):
Of it, Travis, I hear you, but it's so good man.

Speaker 4 (28:44):
And then, as you mentioned, a lot of people are
agreeing three to six, oh yes, pineapple two o six. Hell, yes,
pineapple on pizza two o six. I'm good with pineapple
on pizza, but I do it. But I do love
meat lovers. Something that you mentioned, MICUs, you're as well.
You are also a big meat lover. So I believe
that a lot of listeners don't mind a little pineapple,
except for my guy, Travis.

Speaker 1 (29:05):
It's all love though. I get it. But yeah, you know,
a little pineapple. But see to me, if you're gonna
go pizza, you're gonna go all in, make it thick,
make it rich. Pineapple, I mean my pineapple pepperoni. We
don't talk about pineapple here, at least on this side
of the table. Pepperoni, sausage, ham, katie, and bacon. The

(29:26):
calorie is already ticking up here word by word, ground beef.

Speaker 2 (29:30):
Why not.

Speaker 1 (29:32):
Capa cola. I think we've tried that before. Give it
all to me, three thousand calories and I don't care.

Speaker 2 (29:38):
There you go.

Speaker 4 (29:39):
Last one from our guy Joe from the four two
five Bricky News. Mariner signed Philip Grubauer to play first base.
Thanks GQ, Jerry. Well there we have it. Those are
some of the texts that you guys have been texting
this morning. We appreciate all that.

Speaker 3 (29:51):
I love there.

Speaker 1 (29:51):
Thanks for tuning in. Thank you, Jerry. I missed it.

Speaker 2 (29:53):
It's been a while.

Speaker 1 (29:54):
It's been a long time, but have you seen the mayor, Mike.
It's floating around here somewhere, I think, Well.

Speaker 4 (30:00):
Nonetheless, in Furness, he's gonna come up next to chat
with Mike Benton to share what he has going on
on the show Mayor in Forness coming up next on
ninety point three KJR FM.

Speaker 1 (30:18):
Well, I try to put myself together here for ten
am as much as I could and get through about
an hour and a half of traffic. I know that
the Mayor goes to the same thing over and over,
but he's here much.

Speaker 5 (30:27):
Earlier as well.

Speaker 1 (30:28):
Traffic sucks. Today was brutal.

Speaker 5 (30:30):
Shout out Dammi Zon, thanks for bringing everybody back.

Speaker 1 (30:34):
What's the usual Maple Valley commune for you?

Speaker 5 (30:37):
In forty minutes homes about the same for effort, Yeah,
in forty home is harder. Depends, It just depends.

Speaker 1 (30:44):
I kind of have a joke, like I mean, like
the distance it takes like from from me from where
I live to get to your house. From where I live,
you could take that same drive distance and get right
to Canada. Yeah, well it's crazy.

Speaker 2 (30:56):
I'll say that.

Speaker 5 (30:57):
Like when I leave after when I leave Climate Pledge
after a game like last night is thirty five minutes,
I leave at the same time here and when we're
basically the same Yeah, and from here, like our studios
are basically the same as Climate Pledge yeah, like two
extra minutes from drive down the hill, so thirty five
minutes to drive to and fro with no traffic at
eleven o'clock at night.

Speaker 1 (31:18):
So where were you when you found out about Philip
Grubauer about forty five minutes ago?

Speaker 5 (31:22):
My group chat a bunch of cracking friends of cracking
fans who are friends of mine. I'm not surprised. I
was waiting to see what they would do, Like, what
would they do? Would they? Would they? I thought something
would go down after last night. Not sure what, but you.

Speaker 1 (31:38):
Kind of had that feeling just based on a loss
like that.

Speaker 5 (31:41):
It's just mean, it's just unaccepted.

Speaker 1 (31:43):
I had to get two points last time.

Speaker 5 (31:45):
It's unacceptable, Grooby so Greeby takes a fall, but it's
more than that. It's he can't stop a puck.

Speaker 1 (31:55):
I mean, I was right in front of the Jackson
Lacomba by the way, how the Coors Light silver whatever seats.
I survived the softy and fan experience, all right, Yeah,
they were great. They didn't scare off anybody else there,
all right.

Speaker 5 (32:09):
I just you know, Philip cannot stop a puck, period,
and he's got the worst goal saved against above expected
the league like the worst.

Speaker 1 (32:18):
This This also is not as an important metric as say,
we usually chat about goals saved above expected. It kind
of like the war stat for baseball, not really, but
unblocked shot attempts, say percentage he is sixty third of
sixty seventh. Yeah, it's say percentage on unblocked shot attempts.

(32:38):
I mean, I meania you can see him clearly.

Speaker 5 (32:40):
Yeah, Well, the goal saved above expected is he's last
in the league. He's not only last, he's last, but
like three goals. Yeah, like that's unheard of. That's a war.
That is kind of a war stat. You can use
that for like kind of a war in baseball. It's like,
think about it, somebody that's like last by three, you know,
not at the end of the season, but in the season. Yeah,
that's unheard of of. I mean, and for real thing,

(33:04):
he's getting released to get they're not cutting him because
they had a salary. They might they'll probably buy him
out this summer, but they're gonna but they they did
it to say and they said it in the release.
They said it themselves that they're gonna they send him
to Coachella Valley. So I try to get him right.

Speaker 1 (33:17):
So then you eat a salary there and you put
about roughly still a little over four mili on the
books right now.

Speaker 2 (33:23):
I just.

Speaker 5 (33:26):
He you know, I I know that the easy criticism
is say it's a bad signing. But he was coming
off a hell of the year. That's on him. That's
a that's a that's a Grubauer problem, like like you're bad.
That's not on the I mean everything said you would
be good. Why are you bad?

Speaker 2 (33:43):
But again, it.

Speaker 1 (33:43):
Also goes back to what are you surrounding him with?
And we saw what Grubauer was surrounded with two years
ago about what happened.

Speaker 5 (33:50):
Well, and if that's the case, then that's the analytics
folks didn't do their job right if that's the case.

Speaker 1 (33:53):
And Bauer had a great surrounding in Colorado.

Speaker 5 (33:56):
Yeah, sad days, man, that was a bad loss last night.
That was a really bad loss last because.

Speaker 1 (34:02):
You feel that you go up three to two and
even just how chaot and it.

Speaker 5 (34:06):
Was a better team you felt like. But then we
talked about on the TV broadcast the chaotic nature of
that game did not suit Seattle, and it was in
Brett's Brett Festerilling said it after the first period, he goes,
this is this can't continue.

Speaker 1 (34:18):
Well, look at the same thing at Edmonton. I mean,
I mean you get in the second period, you trade,
you know, rush chances over and over. Do you want
to get into a track meet with the Edmonton Oilers.
The emphatic answer is no.

Speaker 5 (34:30):
The sad thing is you don't want to do that
with Anaheim either.

Speaker 1 (34:32):
Yeah, like they got some good young player.

Speaker 5 (34:34):
So you're so what we're saying is you're not good enough.

Speaker 2 (34:38):
It's just not good enough.

Speaker 5 (34:40):
They're just not good enough.

Speaker 1 (34:41):
Right now, I don't know the sad state right now.
Sad state.

Speaker 5 (34:44):
It might be Seattle sports at a nutshell.

Speaker 1 (34:48):
And did y'all listen to Jim Bowden earlier in the
last twenty four hours? Okay, so I have not heard
the audio. We're going to play that at twelve twenty. Yeah,
in case I have not heard it, did you play today?

Speaker 2 (34:58):
Yes? We did?

Speaker 5 (34:58):
Okay, I have not heard it. All I saw it
was and everyone, Yeah.

Speaker 1 (35:02):
I'd Softy in Fane yesterday has said if you work
for the Seattle Mariners and you better two for plug
plug those years ago l L four minutes and nineteen
seconds of that, we'll get to that coming up today.

Speaker 4 (35:14):
The first ten seconds, I I'll just leave it at that. Okay,
you're just gonna be like, all right, continue.

Speaker 5 (35:18):
Well, yeah, we're gonna we're gonna kind of talk about
kind of the state of Seattle sports a little bit
right now, you know, I mean we just you know,
it's it's not state of the Union necessarily, but we're
we're gonna, we're gonna kind of get to that because
it's it ain't two thousand and eight, but it's not
good right.

Speaker 1 (35:33):
Now, not even two thousand and one or nineteen ninety
seven to ninety five.

Speaker 5 (35:37):
Talk it over. I'm talking overall, not just not just
the baseball team. Baseball team have they Misery loves company.
They've got company in there, and they've got company with
both the NFL team and the and the hockey team.
So we'll get to that a little bit today and
then the big show is going to be here at
noon or two I'm sorry, two o'clock, sir, mister, we
call him.

Speaker 1 (35:53):
I just missed Mike Holme Grin. You know, I'm gonna
do that.

Speaker 5 (35:55):
And I'm also keeping track of something that Mountain West
Conference just put a real lease out about keeping team.
I don't know, there's a weird there's some stuff bubbling
there too, so I got to check that out. We're
going to keep an.

Speaker 2 (36:07):
Eye on that.

Speaker 1 (36:07):
So what's going on there with the Mountain Westy, I
don't know.

Speaker 5 (36:09):
Gloria Navarez is doing some stuff, some shady business, and
you know, I think it's I think it's just a
preventive measure. But I got to look at that. Here
in the break and college sports, what's going on right now?
A lot of bad stuff. So so busy show coming
up today.

Speaker 1 (36:24):
Ian forness, I love when the Mayor and Maple Valley
is in here as well. This show flew by kid Christopher.

Speaker 4 (36:32):
This show flew, you know, shout out to mayor for
letting us use that slot.

Speaker 1 (36:38):
Oh big thanks everyone here for for joining us. Big
thank you to John Forestland for Hugh Mill and everybody
here on this side of things. It's tough loss last
night here for the crack and we'll see if they
can get it in order for tomorrow against the San
Jose Sharks. Say, we'll see what their answer is here
as far as the goaltending position. But Ian's got more
of that coming up here in just a bit and
as he said, the whole state of see Ye Sports,

(37:01):
it's a bumpy, bumpy territory here at this point. That
pizza sounds pretty good for me right now, though about
roughly seven hours away.

Speaker 5 (37:10):
We'll get there.

Speaker 1 (37:12):
Crack a weekly also coming up here seven to eight
pm later on this evening. Mayor's Next Mike for Greg Bell,
I'm out, talk to you soon,
