game with ten minute quarters like international basketball, because it
fits better than a two hour television window. Caitlin Clark
decided she's going to skip the NBA All Star Game
three point contest in San Francisco. She wants her first
pro three point contest to be on her home court
in Indianapolis. This summer at the w NBA All Star Game,
former wh Cougars and last seas Miami Hurricanes quarterback cam

(02:01):
Ward won the Manning Award. It's the nation's top college quarterback.
A lot of buzz about cam Ward being the number
one pick in this springs draft. Tonight is the East
West Shrine Bowl in Arlington, Texas college All Star game
for NFL scouts. Washington Husky's linebacker Carson Brunner and Washington
State Cougar's wide receiver Kyle Williams are playing in that game.
It's a five pm start on NFL Network TV. And

(02:23):
it's two weeks from today that Mariners pitchers and catchers
resport to spring training. The Mariners here in the last
ten minutes have announced thirty one non roster invites the
spring training. They include six of their top ten prospects
according to Baseball America names non roster invite. He's the
spring training that you names that you might be familiar with. Pitcher,
pitchern Neftali, Felies, position players, Cold Emerson, Harry Ford, col Young,

(02:51):
those guys top prospects non roster invite. He's not on
the forty minter roster. They are going to be in
Mariner's spring training. Pitchers and Catchers report on February thirteen,
our man Luke Argan's reports right Now Manners consigular newsletter
on the Beacon Plumbing Hotline. Hello, Luke, I'm hoping you're okay.
It's been a while since we talked. How are you.

Speaker 2 (03:11):
Hi, Greg? You' went well? Good, glad to hear you
got that safely from Detroit. And to see your mom
on ther birst day.

Speaker 1 (03:18):
Oh, thank you very much, Mom says high Luke. It's
a It's an interesting time in our lives, isn't it
when there's the different stages of life and your mother
turns eighty nine and an assisted living facility. Yeah, it
was wild. Nothing I'm used to, that's for sure. Two
weeks soon and' hey Luke Manner's Pictures and Catchers report.
Every Mariner fan. When you say that, think wait a minute,

(03:42):
they're they're reporting in two weeks. What have we done?
What we got it all? Start playing games with this
roster as it is. It's been well documented, including by
you and your Mariners conticular newsletter sign up if you
don't get it about what the Mariners did not do
and you're also really good at pointing out. Okay, fine,
this is what they haven't done. But here's what they
still can do. Here's what's still available. I'm gonna ask

(04:04):
you about the corner infield spots. What do you think
they're gonna do with third base? Is there a big
ticket purchase, is there a Pee Alonzo, Alex Bregman, pie
in the sky out of nowhere media are about to hit?
Or what are the more realistic options for third, for
first and for second base? Do you think for this
team this year?

Speaker 2 (04:22):
Well, I mean, it could definitely live at first base,
I think with Donovan Solano and Luke ralei, although I
don't think that's optimal for a couple of reasons. Salmono
is thirty seven, so at some point he's gonna drive
off the cliff. As related wise, and then Luke Raley
probably will need to play some outfield because you know,

(04:46):
as the outfield sits, it looks great. But let's face it,
the Robos has an injury history. Players get hurt. You're
gonna need a fourth outfielder and rarely does bring a
lot of value in the outfield too. As far as
Pine in the sky, you know, if I had my way,
I would try to sign Pete Alando a short term deal.

(05:08):
I think he can hit in the ballpark. City Field
is not exactly it's a picture's park too. It's not
that different than the mobile park in that respect. And
Pete Alonso has done just fine in New York. He
gets better on the road career wise, but he has
put up some pretty good power numbers at City Field.

(05:30):
So I would like that on a short term deal.
As you can see, nobody is signing him to a
longer turn deal, which is what Scott Boris wants, not
even the Mets who love him. I mean, he's more
valuable to the Mets than anybody else, and the Mets
don't want to go there. But if they could get
him on like a three year deal he hasn't opt
outs each year, go for it. Although I do think

(05:52):
he would prefer not to come here just because of
the ballpark, but I think he can perform there well.

Speaker 3 (05:58):
Some good news, as each Row was, he's in the
Hall of Fame now, But what do you make of
him not getting in one hundred because there's one person
out there that decided, you know, for whatever reason, each
one doesn't deserve my vote.

Speaker 2 (06:13):
Well, I thought that maybe it's possible that somebody inadvertently
left him off.

Speaker 1 (06:17):
By that's more plausible than saying he's not.

Speaker 2 (06:20):
At right right. I mean, it's it's very possible that
somebody's gonna, you know, when they when they release the
ballots publicly, and I realized not all of them are released,
but those who have authorized release, you're gonna find out
that somebody actually left them off just because it was
just a mistake. And we've all made those kinds of

(06:41):
mistakes life. That would be a very embarrassing one though.

Speaker 1 (06:46):
Look back to the question on signing in the ballpark.
I've read again today that the most quality starts by
road Pictures was at safeg Field or T Mobile for
what they call it now, and no other road teams, pitchers,
no other park had more quality starts than Seattle. Do
you think that that's in hitters' minds? And when it's

(07:06):
an open market where they can sign to choose to
sign wherever they want, usually it's top dollar, but not always.
Do you think that that Pete Alonso is looking at
that going eh and that other top guys that maybe
the Mariners fans think the marriagers even try to sign,
never had a chance because their agents told them we're
not playing eighty one games in your park. You think
that's a factor, It's possible.

Speaker 2 (07:28):
I think on those pillow deals, the deals where a
player wants to sign a one year deal to improve
their value, this is not the place to come to
do that. But oh, obviously Cano signed here, Cruise signed here.
If you're willing to pay and maybe given an additional
year or years to a player, I believe they can

(07:52):
sign players. We know that the marriage probably have not
done that, But I do think it's a factor when
you just get down you have it. Sure. Let's take
Alex Recmand if he had a choice to go play
in Houston, which I know is this where he's played
his whole career, or in Seattle and the money was
the same, and just take out the home, you know,
the the nostalgia haven't played in Houston for all these years.

(08:15):
Which stadium would he picked? He would pick? Uh? I
don't even know what they're calling now. They changed it
was minute made. I know they changed the name of it.
But he's gonna go there, right, especially if it's a
short term deal. Why not? So I do think it's
a factor. It's all supposed to be a factor for
getting pictures here, right, It's it's the same difference. So

(08:36):
and I think that's why Robbie Rag came here at
least I think that's why Robbie raykme here. I mean
he as I understand it reached out with Marris so
he knew what was with what was going on here.
Uh So it's a factor, But it's your money talks,
and good players can hit. Good hitters can play here
and perform. Will it be as good here as they

(08:58):
will be on the road. No, they but it doesn't
not take Kyle Sieger. Kyle Siger was a much better
hitter on the road than here, but he was a
great player for the Mariage for over a decade. Robinson
Cano is a great player here, and so is Malsa Cruz.
Now they're all really good and great hitters, and so
it's it's not a surprise. But if you're gonna go

(09:19):
with guys that are on the fringe, there's gonna be
a problem because their offense to begin with, it's just
average is at betch and now they play half their
games here. Their overall numbers are not gonna look good.

Speaker 3 (09:33):
Let's just say, for this example here, the Mariners do
not go out and sign another bet and they stick
with what they got elite pitching staff. How would you
forecast the season going and would you expect Julio to
revert back to maybe his twenty twenty three play where
he was playing lights out and last season not so much.

Speaker 1 (09:53):
But you expect him to play at a better level.

Speaker 3 (09:55):
And that actually puts this team above where they finished
last season, in the pot in the postseason and has
a chance to make a nice run.

Speaker 2 (10:04):
I think they could be as good or better as
last year. Certainly, you know, they didn't get a lot
out of second base or third base last year, and
for a large part of the season they didn't get
anything out of first base. It wasn't until France left,
Luc Raley came in and then they brought in Justin
Turnery for his base that you got production out of

(10:26):
that position. So when you look around, I mean, now
they have Randiel Rosenrena, have Victor Roeblisch added to the
lineup that they didn't have last year. I mean, you
have to hope, and I no, hope is not a
course of action. But that JP Crawford is better this year.
If he could just be what he was in twenty
one twenty two, it doesn't have to be that lights
out here he was in twenty three. That's that's what pretty.

(10:48):
That's an improvement too. So in theory they can be better.
Of course you're hoping that nobody in the rotation gets hurt.

Speaker 4 (10:58):
That's always possibility, right, That is right, I mean, I
mean it's very it's not it's very easy to see
or imagine that Brian who will be better, and that
Bryce Miller will be better.

Speaker 2 (11:11):
That's not hard to imagine.

Speaker 3 (11:14):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (11:14):
And so yeah, maybe Lewis can see it was maybe
he started to diminish a little bit, but so what,
he's still a really good picture.

Speaker 1 (11:20):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (11:21):
But you never know about injuries, you know, that's always
a possibility. But certainly they need something else than what
they have done. Like I said, Donovan Solano is is
a is a nice complimentary player. I wrote when I
when in the acquire on Myne wrote that it helped
raise the floor of the bench. That the bench is

(11:42):
better with him now you have him and you have
dealing more. Uh. Certainly would like to see something done
at backup catch here probably not gonna happen because they're
paying Mitch gart for so much money. But uh, but
Solano is not an everyday player. It's just not. He's
never has been. So at thirty seven is not when
you should start doing that, right Obviously.

Speaker 1 (12:04):
Thirteen years professionally, one hundred games in the Major League,
just four times Lou Gargan's Mariner can sickly our newsletter
joining us in the Beacon Plumbing Hotline. I'm going to
ask you about second base. You know what I'm going
to say, Luke. You know me well enough already to know.
It's Ryan Moore, Ryan Bliss. Please, what are they going
to do a second? Would you move JP Crawford there?
What are they going to do? It's too late to
sign a shortstop. It would seem that would help them

(12:26):
if they wanted to move Crawford to second. What do
you think second base looks like in the after the
disaster there last year?

Speaker 2 (12:33):
You know, I mean I keep hearing the Ryan Bliss
feeling more platoon, but that's not really a platoon. They're
both right handed hitters, and and Bliss. Maybe you find audition.
It's hard to know. He seemed overwhelmed last year, but
it was a small flight. I think it on like
seventy five plate appearances or something like that. But he

(12:54):
did seem a bit overwhelming, particularly by velocity. But uh,
that's just too a little of a sample to judge
a player by. Certainly, he would definitely be a better
defender than what they had out of Horgate Planco. Certainly
he's a better base runner, and maybe that's the what's
what we're gonna have here. We're gonna have really good
defenders who don't hit that well in the middle of

(13:15):
the infield or in the in the infield in general.
I don't I don't like that approach, but that maybe
that's where we're gonna end up. I mean, there are possibilities.
I mean, you know, Luisa Rice with the Padres is
the name that gets thrown around a bit. He is
a back the ball guy, doesn't have any power, he's
not not particularly good defender at any position, and he's

(13:38):
not particularly fast, but he gets on base, and so
you know, I think he called he's he's making about
fourteen million dollars this year. You could go that way.
Spencer Steer with the Reds an interesting guy. To me,
he multiposition guy. He has a little bit of third
base and second base experience from outfield experience. Again not

(13:58):
the ideals that, but he is coming off a kind
of a downash year with the Reds. He finished sixth
in the nationally Rookie the year voating at twenty three.
It kind of down last year. If not terrible, somebody
like that, maybe you could get a guy like that
and sort of just kind of piece it together and
try to cobble together a decent lineup that way.

Speaker 1 (14:21):
Steer Spencerster is twenty seven years old. He hit only
two twenty five, which would have put him first or
second in the Mariners last year, but he had twenty
home runs with ninety two RBI well hitting two twenty
still only twenty seven years old, So yeah, I mean,
I don't know what it would take to get somebody
like that, but it's not like you're breaking the bank

(14:41):
on someone like that. Luke Argan's Mariners can still your
newsletter sign up. If you don't get it, we'll ask
him at the end how you can do that. How
about the bullpen. You're going to have two one games,
You're not going to be boat racing out scoring team.
So bullpen again is going to be a big deal.
Where do you think they go? Have they done enough?
Are they going to rely on farm hands and prospects

(15:03):
to backfill? What do you think the bullpen sits two
weeks before pitchers and catchers report.

Speaker 2 (15:08):
You know, as you know, as you know that you
know that the term reliever volatility is well known in
baseball for a reason. I mean, Andres Mohots and Lunos
is certainly their top guy. But you know, the matter
seems very good at, uh, finding pitchers and making them
the best version of themselves. So maybe somebody that they

(15:29):
brought in this offseason on a minor league deal turns
out to be the next Paul Seawaald or something like that.
But there, you know, there are questions, you know, when
will Matt Brash be back? Will he be what he
was prior to the Tommy John surgery. Gregory Santos got
him about a year ago, unfortunately didn't very much. If

(15:51):
he comes back healthy, which is a big if. Uh,
he certainly is a difference maker in the bullpen. But
there are a lot of names that are familiar from
last year. You know, Jackson Cohar, a guy that came
over in the count Nick deal. Also coming back to
Tommy John, I don't know when he might be ready,
but there are some names on here. Trent Gorton sort

(16:12):
of had his issues, Colin Snyder, you know, Edward Grizzardo
at moments was pretty good. But if you see a
low leverage situation, then gates Fire obviously took a step
back last year for being great season prior. So uh,
I would have preferred if you're not going to go
and invest in hitters, then double down on your pitching

(16:34):
and get some established guys and then use these other
younger guys to compliment in the bullpen because there's an
assumption that movieals will stay healthy. I mean that's hopeful,
but again, you know, the guys thrown one hundred miles
an hour and just pitch, just get hurt, and so

(16:55):
it is. You know, when you look at their mariners
on paper, they're are okay. But that's assuming everybody's gonna
stay healthy and perform as well or better than they
did last year. And that is, as I said earlier,
hope it's not a course of action or a strategy.

Speaker 1 (17:15):
Yeah, Gregory Santos would be gigantic I mean, if he
was anything of what they thought they were getting last
year from the White Sox with him and then he
misses all but a couple of weeks of the season,
he would be a tremendous piece. Yes.

Speaker 2 (17:28):
Yeah, he's only twenty five. I mean, he's still young,
young play so there's there's definitely some upside to the team.

Speaker 1 (17:35):
What gives you hope, Luke did this team makes the
playoffs this year and actually improves on last year or anything.

Speaker 2 (17:41):
The rotation, Yep, the rotation is great, you know, and
I know, you know, Mike Pechild did a fabulous job
with that PC he wrote about the ballpark and I
am I'm like his biggest fan, and and I've seen
some fans on social media say, well, that just shows
you that the pitch, the rotation is not that good.

(18:03):
After well, it is. It's just their phenomena at home
and on the road. They're still better than average. So
that's pretty good. I mean, we would take that from
the from the lineup, wouldn way if they were average
at home and so one a on the on the road,
we would take that. You know, It's not like everybody,
you know, I mean, so the rotation is what gives

(18:23):
me a hope because you're going to be in games
almost every night as long as these guys, these five
guys stated, you know, relatively healthy, you still have huh.
Hancock also is as your six guys. So the rotation
in itself, I think it's fair to as soon that
Julio and Kawally and and JP Crawford can still be

(18:47):
an anchor, and then you just need to get decent
seasons out of Randiol Rose Raine and like Victor robe Is,
I'm not going to go to anticipates that he's gonna
be as good as he was last September, while the
only guy who's better, who is better than him was
showe Ao Tany. But what I mean is just like
an average hitter, the average gets on Bay Stills still's
Still's faces, plays good defense. That's a great addition compared

(19:10):
to what they had actually the last year. So there
are reasons to be optimistic, but this team is certainly
not complete in my opinion.

Speaker 1 (19:17):
Luke, appreciate you. How can people follow your newsletter online
and on social media?

Speaker 2 (19:23):
Well, there's this way is just google my name and
it should be like the first thing that comes up,
Luke Arkins and you know, or you can just go
to my my Twitter account Luke underscore Arkins and it's
it's right there my profile too. It's free, so great price.
And they'll just show up and if you if you're
a subscriber'll just show up in your email inbox and

(19:45):
you can always quit it anytime you want. So hopefully
some folks will join the group that's already subscribed.

Speaker 1 (19:53):
Yeah, a lot of a lot of people already on board.

Speaker 2 (19:55):
I am.

Speaker 1 (19:56):
I don't know why you'd ever want to quit it.
What you're wrong, Louke, appreciate it. We'll talk to you
against and it's good to talk to again.

Speaker 2 (20:01):
All right, good talking to you.

Speaker 1 (20:03):
Thank you, Luke Arkins, Mariners can sigl Air News. You
can also go to mariners Dash conciglia Air if you're
not French co O N s I g l I
E r E coniglia air dot com, Mariner's desk konciculair
dot com or Luke Arkins, as he said, look him
up on Twitter or x or whatever the kids call it.
L u K E Luke A r k I N

(20:25):
s Arkins. He says. He basically says, huh hope, Yeah,
running back. We got pictures, and we got pictures.

Speaker 3 (20:34):
If the guys that are hitting on this roster can
be better, there's a strong chance.

Speaker 1 (20:41):
Like the Spencer Steer guy, he wouldn't cost a lot,
you would think in prospects.

Speaker 3 (20:45):
I think we have to come to the realization the
Marinons aren't going to do anything, and what they have
is what they have, and they just need players to
do their thing, which they don't do consistent struck out
a lot.

Speaker 1 (20:55):
So let's just hope for the best. Okay, Santos gets healthy,
road Blaze becomes Roblaze, it becomes what he was rookie
with the Washington Nationals. And then your center fielder becomes
the man that's supposed to be the two hundred million
dollars centerfielder, Kyle Rowley becomes your franchise.

Speaker 3 (21:13):
Sounds good, Greg, I don't know what else you want
me to say. Man, it sounds really good. And then
the season starts.

Speaker 1 (21:20):
Could you tell Chris grew up and born and raised
in Seattle? Not a chance, not a chance you can
realize that? Or nine four one in a tell him
we'll do text line where a lot of you sound
like Christopher Kidd will read back her text. Next at
ninety three point three kJ RFM, Welcome back to the

(21:41):
Greg Best Show with Christopher Kidd. You know what time
it is. The music means it's time to read back
your text and the tell them we're do text line
four nine four or five.

Speaker 3 (21:47):
One from the three to six Oh, change can happen
if fans are unified, it won't happen.

Speaker 1 (21:55):
Owners know it. Mariners fans of Chrish do we have
this say? I don't even think so. I guess you're right.
Some listener could be like, what the hell are you
been talking about? But no, you're right.

Speaker 3 (22:06):
As a Mariners fan, all I can do is support change.
I hear you fifty four percent? What a joke? Mark
from the two five three, Greg and Chris. I cannot
wait until each Rose Weekend when we all get to
boom standing out of the stadium from.

Speaker 1 (22:19):
The four two five. I hope that each year's weekend
doesn't get upstage by that that Yeah, August eight nine ten,
If I remember Ofugh up my head, Yes, it's gonna
retire his jersey on Saturday Night on August the ninth,
recurred number fifty one.

Speaker 3 (22:39):
Yeah, let's seem three six oh, so jin know made
five mill and ten years.

Speaker 1 (22:48):
No, that's not well. Yeah, to be honest, yes, because
well you had this rookie contract which was from twenty twelve.
I was I was recapping the numbers off the top
of my head. But yeah, he had a seven year
run of one million dollar contract. So that's seven years
roughly seven eight million dollars. There you go.

Speaker 3 (23:09):
And then he got the Seahawks and they were like
or Pete Carroll saw the vision and they paid him
what he's worth. I mean, hell, how much is Derek
Carr making. I think he's making well over thirty in
a year something crazy. I'm sure Gino's agents would be like,
my guy's better than Derek Carr. Throw them fifty million,
okay for the for the sake of being protected, since

(23:31):
this guy wants to the number gal once the number
is broken down.

Speaker 1 (23:33):
The Jets, on a four year rookie deal as a
second round draft pick in two thousand for thirteen gave
Gino Smith. He earned five million dollars for that. The
Giants one point two, the Chargers one million, the Seahawks
eight hundred and seventy thousand, The Seahawks again one point
two million, the Seahawks again one point two million. Again,
those are veteran minimum deals. The veteran minimum went up

(23:55):
from the twenty nineteen from eight hundred and seventy thousand
to one point one eight seven million in twenty twenty
because why twenty twenties when they signed a new collective
barting agreement that set a new veteran minimum salary, and
then seven million dollars in twenty twenty two to come back,
and then the extension after the Pro Bowl and playoff season.

(24:15):
He's jumped up to fifty million dollars he's earned so
far on a contract that's worth a base of seventy
five million. That's fifty million base. Now he again is
going to get sixteen million guaranteed. Think about this. If
you're an NFL player entering your thirties and you've been
on seven consecutive contracts of one million, and you have
a sixteen million dollar guaranteed due to you in March,
that's a big deal. You're making twice as much as

(24:37):
you made in seven years in one day March sixteenth.
That's where Gina Smiths come from. Financially, you don't think
he revers a guy who made that happen. That's Pete Carroll.

Speaker 3 (24:49):
From our guy Keith in the two five three. Could
you get a second round pick for Gino if he
just moved to the Raiders? And where's Dylan Gabriel mocking at?
I've seen Dylan Gabriel marking as high third all the
way between fourth and fifth round.

Speaker 1 (25:02):
And second and third day, Chris, I can't see a
second round pick, can you? When all pro wide receivers
are getting third and fourth rounders? A thirty five year
old quarterback who was second in the NFL in interceptions
and first in red zone interceptions, I think he probably
get a third or fourth third word starts that's fifth
maybe because the problem again is you're not just getting
the player, you're getting the contract if you trade. If

(25:23):
any team of trades form has to absorb thirty million
dollars in a cap bit in addition to the fifteen
interceptions and five red zone interceptions, yeah, last year. I
don't think you give up a Day two pick for that.
Certainly not a second rounder, no way.

Speaker 3 (25:38):
I could probably look this up while I asked this
question from the two five to three, would Raiders have
cap space to acquire Geno? Tyler, or would they have
to move on from Max Crosby or make a deal
or something.

Speaker 1 (25:49):
The Raiders have. According to overthecap dot com, the Raiders
have ninety two million dollars in cap space and what's
expected to be a two hundred and eighty million dollars
salary cap for this year. Well, they're good. They could
definitely make some shake. Max Crosby still has two more
years on his contract beyond this one twenty six.

Speaker 3 (26:05):
Go ahead and lock him in for an extension. That's
that's a piece you want to keep forever.

Speaker 1 (26:08):
If you can. Right.

Speaker 3 (26:10):
Uh, from the four to two five Howell is not
the answer. I wish we still had Drew Locke. I
would still cut Gino if I could sign Kirk Cousins,
save thirty mil and sign some offensive lineman.

Speaker 1 (26:21):
Got to do it soon so you don't have to
pay the six million in bonuses. So you're risking a
lot here.

Speaker 3 (26:26):
You want to bring in a guy that was playing
in sand last season in Kirk Cousins, and then you say, oh,
sign some offensive lineman. Well, the the Seahawks signed offensive lineman.
They just all not We're not good enough. So it
sounds as if the recipe's going to repeat it. So
you're going to bring in Kirk Cousins with a questionable
offensive line. You're hoping that Cousins is better than he

(26:47):
was last season, but there's no guarantee he's not able
to move in the pocket. Peter Smith is that's that's
what it's very That's something that you don't.

Speaker 1 (26:58):
Have every quarterback right now.

Speaker 3 (27:01):
There are some good ones, like a Tom Brady that
was able to maneuver the pocket without having the athleticism.
But Kirk Cousins and that isn't that guy. Nope, No,
he's good at picking up blitzes and rereading it hot.
He's able to throw out of that and he didn't
do that well last season, and part of it because
he couldn't move. So I'm not sure Kirk Cousins is
the answer. But hey, I could be wrong, but I

(27:22):
wouldn't do it if I were the Seahawks.

Speaker 2 (27:24):
No way.

Speaker 1 (27:24):
For five, Gino's career winnings are over sixty seven nine correct,
sixty seven million and sixty of a million by the Seahawks.
I got it. I'm aware, Thank you, thank you for
those things.

Speaker 3 (27:36):
Four two five trade Gino and Woolen and get Crosby
in return.

Speaker 1 (27:41):
All right, cool? So no trade Woolan, trade Metcalf, trade Witherspoon,
and maybe you could get Max. You're gonna need a
break truck full of players. Yeah, the Dovaders aren't just
good people.

Speaker 2 (27:54):
Think.

Speaker 1 (27:55):
I don't know, man, I'd love it when they fandels
and all these websites say, propose trade. What do you
think Chargers will trade name somebody and a bag of
kicking teeth for DK Metcalf? Would you do it? Sure,
I'd do it. But would it ever happened?

Speaker 2 (28:12):
No?

Speaker 1 (28:13):
Hell no, nobody gonna get Gino Smith and Reek Wolling
for Max Crosby. No Raider, he just hired a GM.
You think that's the first movie He's gonna make the
fire his ass. That's unbelievable.

Speaker 3 (28:25):
From the four to two five it appears to be
mister Graham, Eric Graham. What do you think the holdup
is with Ernest Jones getting that new deal?

Speaker 1 (28:34):
Ernest Jones' agent when the Max out the money? I
really do The Seahawks wanted to do it during the season.
They approached him, they gave him a number, and the
Seahawks there Jones and his agents said wait, and every
day he every game he played, his price went up.
He made only three million, three and a half close
to four million dollars in the final year his rookie. Yea,
he is double dad. He's gonna go. He's gonna go

(28:57):
three four acts. I would think we remember we talked
about the top ten inside middle linebacker salaries in the
NFL will go from twenty million to the top Brokwan
Smith and the Ravens down to Ickwegate. And I'm gonna
Butcher's name because I haven't looked it up in a while.
For the Giants, who makes ten million twenty mine to
ten million is the top ten in inside middle linebacker salaries, Chris,

(29:19):
I would think he's at fourteen thirteen twelve million, fifteen
million dollar player, twelve to fifteen easily easily, I think.

Speaker 3 (29:27):
So he's gonna don't don't come to me if it
ain't at least fifteen a year.

Speaker 1 (29:31):
That's the like, yo, we're starting here, right, Okay?

Speaker 5 (29:34):
Cool?

Speaker 1 (29:35):
And you would you would think they'll do that for
how valuable he was and how might McDonald.

Speaker 3 (29:39):
Mike McDonald's probably banging on John Sneyder's door. Hey man,
let's get Ernest locked up like yesterday.

Speaker 1 (29:44):
I know I wrote it. Come on, I wrote coming
back from the Arizona game. I wrote on the Deduce
Tribune dot com.

Speaker 3 (29:49):
Let's not wait for let's not wait for some linebacker
they've never heard of, the sign for like twenty three million.

Speaker 1 (29:55):
And you know how it works. The closer these guys
get to free agency, the more they go, Okay, let's
just go to free see and see what the price is.
He's up, He's yeah, he's never been in free agency.
He just ended as rookie deal.

Speaker 3 (30:05):
I think once they get Gino locked in, I assume
they go that, do that route first, then they'll lock
him up.

Speaker 2 (30:10):
See.

Speaker 1 (30:11):
I think it's gonna be the way around because of
the Gino, because of the Gino Smith salary guarantee. On
March sixteenth, free agencies the legal poaching period, the legal
tamping paer begins March tenth. The first day of the
league year is March twelfth. So I think you do
that way before March tenth, so that Jones can't even
talk to anybody else. Well, they better get on it. Yeah, exactly,

(30:32):
Now of a sudden, it's February first. I'm just saying
I mean pictures and catchers are reporting. Get that done, ladies,
and I have not. But that doesn't mean he's not
gonna be on next. He's Mayor Maple Valley. Ian Furness
join us from somewhere some casino or some studio or
some got a cracking game today, but it's not till
seven thirty tonight ends up next. Thanks a lot for

(30:53):
joining in on the tellhamor de text line. When it's
game time, it's to ally time. Ian Ferness is up
next to ninety three point three kjerfil Welcome back to
the Greg Mall share with Christopher Kidd on ninety three
point three KGRM. We're joined by the Great Mayor and

(31:14):
Maple Vugh and for Nest, he's got a Purdue boiler
Maker's hoodie.

Speaker 5 (31:17):
I just threw something on today, but you, I'll be
honest with you. I had the Wazoo hoo, I had
the Wazoo hoodie on, and then the process of slapping
some salad together to bring for lunch today, I build
stuff all over it and just thought maybe I better change,
grabbed it.

Speaker 1 (31:32):
And left and boy, where did you even get that?

Speaker 5 (31:34):
So my my my daughter's boyfriend probably future son in law.
They've been together for a long time, lived together. So
we've all the last couple of years with the Zach e.
Edie world, we've migrated and become He's a huge he's
a Purdue alum. So we became boy, we're all Boilers.
And then uh yeah, so I've kind of become a
little bit of boiler Maker fan through him. We do

(31:56):
at group chat, him and my son and I watching
the college basketball guys watching college hoop. And then got
this for me for Christmas, and then he got me tickets.
We all went to the game when they pounded you
up here a couple weeks ago, which was fun. So
we all and what was a Purdue home game as
a matter of.

Speaker 1 (32:10):
Fact, Yeah, a lot of people in the Midwest don't
live in the Midwest anymore.

Speaker 5 (32:16):
Well, and all you know, I you know, anytime you
guys know, I'll take a shot Washington.

Speaker 1 (32:21):
I will.

Speaker 5 (32:21):
That's just how we work here. But much like The
Afternoon Show takes a shot at Wazoo. But I will,
I will point out with the Big Ten. Now, yes,
there's a lot of Midwest people that have lived that
move out here, and then there's a Purdue known for
its engineering and computers and all that stuff. Well, there's
a little thing called Microsoft and Amazon out here. There's

(32:44):
I think I saw like half of those companies at
Alaska Airlines that night. So yeah, so including including Keegan.

Speaker 1 (32:51):
So uh yeah, it was fun. I was, and i've been.

Speaker 5 (32:53):
I haven't been a game decad in a long time. Yeah,
it's great, great, great place to watch it. Yeah, it's
a great place to watch a game.

Speaker 1 (33:00):
As I was on the plane last night writing this,
Geno Smith Pete Carroll's story and he Carol went back
to the Raiders. My editor asked me to write it
actually at the News Tribute Sean Robinson. And at first
I think, well, okay, But as I read it, there
are a lot of things that make sense about that
a lot, and money's not one of them. Right, that's
the big problem, right, because the cheap the Raiders aren't

(33:21):
going about to acquire that contract. It would have to
be some kind of renegotiated some for this year. But
and I went back in and looked and listened to
Carol and Smith at the end of their tenure, of
the Carroll's tenure, and I mean glowing and called him
one of his all time favorite guys. I know Carol's
Sonny and all that, but yeah, Carol gave him basically

(33:42):
sixty million of the sixty seven million that Gino Smith
earned in his NFL.

Speaker 5 (33:46):
I heard you say early, that's crazy. I think Gino
is the kind of guy that Pete would love and
probably does love because and and to a certain extent,
Russ is that way too, Like, oh, like, Gino's no good,
he's washed up up, he's fall out of the place,
and Pete's like, no, I can make it. Look what
I can do. And I mean Russ was frankly the

(34:06):
same thing, right. I don't know if you guys know this.
Russ is short and you know, third round pick and
that's that kind of I still love the bar Shan
stuff there. I don't know if you saw something behind
the scenes. He caught up with him in the hallway afterwards.
Pretty cool. It was pretty cool. It's like, you know, Pete, man,
he's all forgiven, he is all forgiving love. I love

(34:27):
the guy. I wish I had that in me. I don't,
I'll be honest, I just don't. And if you do,
you're listening out there, good for you, because you're one
in a million because it's like you and.

Speaker 1 (34:38):
Pete that are that are that way. So I hope
he does well there, I really do. I hope he
does well.

Speaker 5 (34:43):
I'm a Pete Carroll fan, absolutely absolutely huge fan. So
today kind of jam on a Thursday crazy, I'll work backwards.

Speaker 1 (34:51):
I can work backwards.

Speaker 5 (34:56):
Two o'clock our weekly visit with Gary Parrish sportsbtsports dot
Com talking all things called you spend some time. I
got to ask Gary his partner on his podcast, Matt
Norlander wrote a big story it. Stu Jackson, WCC commissioner,
and all the commissioners from the non power conferences kind
of the non football conferences and stuff are meeting this week.
Normal meeting. But there's a lot of concern out there

(35:19):
that basketball is going to go the way of football
and a couple of bigger conferences are going to force
the smaller guys out. Isn't that what march madness is about?
Interesting if they do that, because it's one thing if
you just say, okay, basically trying to get rid of
maybe some of the auto bits, which is exactly what
march madness is. And oh, by the way, look over

(35:39):
the years, Villanova would be forced out national champion a
couple times over Yukon. Not in a power conference, right,
Butler back, I mean there's oh Gonzaga hello, Right, So
we'll talk to him about that. It's amazing how when
things aren't broken then people try to fix them.

Speaker 1 (35:57):
So it's also amazing that everybody's now lost dues and
court statements about all the other sports. Yeah, hey, wait
a minute, this settlement's leaving us out.

Speaker 5 (36:05):
Because Mark and March madness makes money for all of
those minor sports. Absolutely, it's what it does, especially for
the smaller schools. You think Gonzaga would be able to
put together have a nice baseball stadium with other basketball
program No, anyway, we'll get to that with Gary plus
just top teams. It's always never too early start thinking
about your brackets and your number one seeds.

Speaker 1 (36:24):
Let's go. I will do that.

Speaker 5 (36:25):
Corbin Smith at one o'clock his weekly visit. We'll talk
about Klan Kobiac obviously, and he's kind of been watching
Senior Bowl stuff. We'll get into that. And then twelve twenty,
Chris Crawford's going to jump on. No Molly wop today,
just actual baseball talk. Keith Low's top one hundred prospects
and then the top system, Seattle's number one. We'll find
out if any of those guys could actually pop through
and play. Sorry, I'm not a Ryan Bliss being an

(36:47):
every second basement guy, so I need.

Speaker 1 (36:49):
Something else better than they had last year.

Speaker 5 (36:51):
But you listen, Chris, kids, better than we had your
second basement for Cascade Christians, better than what they had
last year university prep.

Speaker 1 (36:58):
But yeah, just to make.

Speaker 5 (37:00):
Representing woles, Catholic schools are the those private schools are
the same. Do's the odell a lot?

Speaker 2 (37:05):
Right? Right?

Speaker 1 (37:06):
Chris getting there?

Speaker 5 (37:07):
Let's go huh unless you're playing yet, then you're a
punk Seattle perhaps same thing. Screw you go, Irish.

Speaker 1 (37:14):
I am surrounded by Oday.

Speaker 2 (37:16):
Yes.

Speaker 1 (37:18):
Interness is up next from twelve to three with Anderson
Hurst and Jasmin McIntyre, Greg Bell, chrispher Kids. Thank you
for listening. I'll be back tomorrow. I'm back on Seattle
so so I'll be back on tomorrow and then Monday
potentially from Seahawks headquarters. All coming up next with the
Infants on ninety three point three KJRFM
