Speaker 1 (00:00):
If you hadn't even started Christmas shopping. Was the last
time Brandon Monteur had scored. He had that early spade
of scoring in this season, and then he went dry
for a month and a half. Last night he scored.
The Cracking broke out in a big way for runaway win.
We'll talk about how Philip Grubauer can still return to
the Crack and even though they waived him this week,
(00:21):
the veteran goaltender Jorgey Polonko is back. We talked to
Luke Arkan jesterday. I almost asked him, do you think
they'd bring back Jorgete Polanco? And I thought, you know what,
I'm gonna get laughed off the air, So I'm not
even gonna mention his name. Oh they're laughing now because
they brought him back. It is literally hope hopefully.
Speaker 2 (00:40):
Nah man, he might as well as just.
Speaker 1 (00:42):
You're a Mariner fan, you hope the joke's on us.
But he's not gonna play where you saw him last
year for the marriage. We'll talk about that. I haven't
talked to Chris about this, but I bet he knows
about this. There's a federal investigation convening a grand jury
over alleged game fixing in the NBA and in college basketball.
We talked about Johntay Porter in the spring and that's
how it started. Well, that case is still going and growing, Terry.
(01:04):
What you're doing, terryling Bro? I guess if you played
with the Charlotte Hornets, you're app to wander a little bit.
Speaker 3 (01:10):
And he got traded to the Heat. Like Bro, there's
always an opportunity. Now I feel bad because he probably
gonna get banned for life, although he is a far
better player than John. We talked about the politics in
the NBA. John Tay's like bottom of the bottom. Meanwhile, Terry,
he's been around, he'd been around a bit. He can hoop,
so it's like, well, do bann him for a year?
(01:32):
Kind of what you saw with Calvin Ridley of the
who he played for when he have band?
Speaker 2 (01:35):
Was it the was it the Falcons at the time.
Speaker 3 (01:37):
So when he was with the Falcons, they suspend him
for a season and comes back plays for a Titan,
So that that might be what we see with Terry Rose.
Speaker 2 (01:43):
Here we'll talk about this story.
Speaker 1 (01:44):
But then you're right, Chris, this is a test now
in the NBA, A you're gonna be consistent here. You
nailed Porter, a fringe twelfth man on the team. Are
you gonna go with Terry Rozier and give him the
same treatment. We'll talk about what Rosier's in trouble with.
And it's getting into college basketball too.
Speaker 2 (01:57):
Yeah, prop bets just out just open up gamly for everybody.
Speaker 1 (02:02):
Players already have it, no, I mean players too. Well,
then you the game, Well, you know what, you just
want honesty?
Speaker 3 (02:08):
Right, What more could you ask for it? You're already
You would just hope that everyone has some honesty.
Speaker 2 (02:13):
That's it. That's all you could ask for now.
Speaker 3 (02:15):
I know, I know it probably doesn't sound good to
say that out loud, but what else could you ask for?
Some There's always going to be that one or two
players that illegally do it and you find out about it.
Speaker 1 (02:25):
If you, as a league embrace the devil and all
the revenue betting, you're gonna get burned.
Speaker 2 (02:29):
That's what's happening there. Exactly.
Speaker 1 (02:31):
What's Clint Kubiak's first job as Seahawks offensive coordinated We're
gonna talk about that at eleven o'clock.
Speaker 2 (02:35):
We're gonna talk to James Foster.
Speaker 1 (02:37):
He's from the thirty third Team, consortium of former NFL coaches, executives, players,
current analysts. Hu Millons a part of it. James is
in the at the Senior Bowl and Mobile Alabama. They're
gonna play a game tomorrow. They've had the practices all week.
We're gonna talk to James Foster from the thirty third
Team at eleven o'clock about who stood out to him
at the Senior Bowl, including at positions the Seahawks need
to improve. You can take a wild guess on what
(02:58):
those are. Big guys E and e oh, look at that.
Starts with Ian, ends with He'll let you figure it out.
At eleven thirty, we'll be back to tech four nine
four five one on the telem we'll do text line
when it's game time.
Speaker 2 (03:10):
It's Tolly ten.
Speaker 1 (03:11):
That'll take us right into talking to Ian and his
show from twelve until three and Headlines first brought to
you by Prostpered Cords, Light Choose Chow Evertt fitzh was
a busy man last night.
Speaker 2 (03:21):
In the second period, drops it off to it's done
for a shot. Turn a sat right now.
Speaker 4 (03:26):
Oliver by Strand in front, Alter Doer turns it over,
shade right high slought Montor Brandon Montour, fresh off the bench,
snaps one in from the high slot. Jayden slats heavy
(03:47):
and toe picks up the block to the slot.
Speaker 2 (03:55):
Tech Tac toe. That was ever fits you.
Speaker 1 (03:56):
Last night on your home with the crack of ninety
three point three kJ R f M. Three goals on
the first three shots of the second period. What's interesting
about that? You heard him say Montor just come off
the bench in the line change. The goal of Jaden
Schwartz was after he came out of the penalty box.
So both of them just ran onto the ice and
scored six to win over San Josean Now, San Jose
(04:17):
is one of the worst teams in the league, but
that's how the Cracking have had a lot of trouble
with against bottom teams, and they went six to last night.
Speaker 2 (04:23):
Four goals in the.
Speaker 1 (04:24):
Second period, three of those right there from Everett Fitch
you and yeah, you heard this song quite a bit
last night. A climate pledge Arena Dan Bowisma post game said,
we've been in waiting to turn it around mode the
entire month of January and we're still in that mode.
He's hoping that this game can be the start of
that we'll find out where they go from here. As expected,
(04:46):
Philip Grubauer, goaltender Cleared Waivers are assigning the thirty three
year old veteran to their top Coachello Valley Minor League
team to get his game right. Dan Bowisman, the coach,
said of Grubauer before yesterday's game.
Speaker 2 (04:57):
Grew barer.
Speaker 1 (04:57):
Of course, five fifteen and one one of the league's
worst against averages. Dan Bosman said at Grubauer quote, going
to CV will give him some practice, sime, and give
him some game times, try to give his game back
to where we all know it can be. And here's
why they're doing this, well, the Cracking are going to
be off for the Four Nations face off February tenth
through the twenty second. Coachella Valley's going to be playing
(05:17):
four times.
Speaker 2 (05:18):
In that span.
Speaker 1 (05:18):
Of course, the minor leaguers aren't going to take the
time off for that tournament. If you don't know what
the four Nations faceoff at Sweden, Finland, Canada and the US,
they're playing in Montreal in Boston, this new inn season
tournament that leagues are not going to. And while they're
taking a break, Grubauer can continue to play down in
the minor leagues. He of course allowed five goals and
twenty two shots against Louiannaheim and a crack and loss
(05:40):
this week. Joey the course started last night. Of course
he's going to keep starting, Bosman said. The cour mat
started all final five games of the Cracking before that
nation's cup break. The team recalled Alice Stretzga from Coachella
Valley to beat the Cords backup. But it doesn't sound
like he's going to play. So they've got time here
now for Grubauer to try to get right, and there's
a chance he's going to be back, perhaps even after
(06:00):
that four Nations face off break after February twenty second.
We talked about this yesterday. There is some incentive for
the Crack and to keep him on the roster. Of course,
making five point nine million this year, so his contract's
not tradable with how he's playing. But after the season
they can buy out his contract, which still has two
years remaining on it. Joey Decord the clear starter, so
(06:22):
this Cracking may be interested in doing it. Next game
for Seattle's ice teams on Sunday six pm against Calgary
at Climate Pledge Arena right here in your home for
the Crack in ninety three point three KJFM five to
thirty pre game show. It might have been six o'clock Sunday,
flames and cracking at Climate Pledge the Crack and then
I have home games against Detroit Tuesday in Toronto Thursday.
Speaker 2 (06:40):
Next week, Mariners.
Speaker 1 (06:42):
One month after releasing him from an expensive two year dude,
the Manners are brought back or hey, Polarco cheaper one
year contract. He's going to get seven point seventy five
million guaranteed to play third base, not second base. He
flopped at second base in an injury filled twenty twenty
four Mariner season. Pitchers and catchers report the spring training
in Peoria, Arizona in thirteen days. We'll talk about this
(07:03):
a lot more than next segment. Washington Huskies men's basketball
team one and eight Big Ten Play. They next played
tomorrow morning at Minnesota nine am. Right here in your
home for the Huskies ninety three point three KGRFM, Tony
KSHTERKERM Jason Hamilton broadcasting live from Minneapolis Tomorrow Huskies and Gophers.
Another bad loss for Washington State men's basketball last night.
Chris seventy to sixty eight at Pacific, Greg, I got
(07:26):
what I got something for you. When they lose, jan
I bring it up. I'm just being thorough.
Speaker 3 (07:30):
You could just go Huskies, you know, and we'll leave
it at that. You know, Ian myself, other coops know
what's going on. Yeah, you just don't have to talk
about it.
Speaker 2 (07:38):
Yeah, that's true because you know what that does. That
feels the dogs and we don't need them barking at us.
Speaker 1 (07:43):
Right, got a lot of dogs, feel met a lot
of dog I do, okay, dogs in Seattle.
Speaker 2 (07:47):
We are at the home of the husky Me and
Ian don't want to hear it. I know, I know.
So you know what, when you think you know only
read this headline, you just go ahead and skip it.
No one's gonna even miss a beat. Okay, I'm gonna
whisper that the Cougars have lost three in a row,
that dumb button. Still they're five and five in the
West Coast Conference. Now, Mayor, I need you to help
me out here.
Speaker 1 (08:04):
The Cooks looked like they were headed to the tournament,
and now they're losing all left and right, in the
middle of the pack in the conference. Not good, no,
but they do have a Conference tournament that although that
West Coast Conference tournament is rigged up. Yeah, Gonzaga and
Saint Mary's get like three buys and they go straight
to the semifinals.
Speaker 2 (08:19):
How many games you have to win?
Speaker 1 (08:21):
Two games to win the conference if you're Gonzaga to
basically exactly, they played the first game on it Wednesday,
and they coulda went all the way out till the
next Monday.
Speaker 2 (08:29):
But they put themselves in this position.
Speaker 3 (08:30):
I will say that if they had games that they
should have won, we can go back and look at
all of them.
Speaker 2 (08:35):
Yeah, Pacific, Pacific.
Speaker 1 (08:37):
Yeah, that's the big one, right, two of them now, Yeah,
they're ast the home to us earlier this.
Speaker 2 (08:41):
Month, East West Shrinebell College All Star Game.
Speaker 1 (08:43):
Last night, I was in an exercise bike and a
class in a gym, and I turned it on just
because I wanted to watch, you keep my mind off
of the turning a bike round and round. And I
saw this guy in the slot wearing an Eastern Washington
red helmet, and I'd heard of a lot of people.
Speaker 2 (09:01):
Couldn't compare him to.
Speaker 1 (09:03):
Cooper Cup obviously, because Cooper was an Eastern wide receiver
before the Rams made Hi miss Super Bowl MVP or
he made himself one. But anyway, I see this guy
with the red eggs helmet, I forgot. Oh, yeah, that's
that Afton Chisholm guy. On a third down in the
slot in the second quarter. He had a catch in
the scene and then he jumped over the guy that
was trying to tackle. Hi got a nineteen yard gain
(09:23):
out of it. Oh, that's going to impress some scouts
and ninety five pounds. Chisham also ran a fly sweep
on a short yard he's played. He got stacked up
on that one. But he also was returning punts kickoffs,
basically a little Cooper Cup. Scouts are li likening Chisholm
to Cup, and good chance he's going to get drafted,
maybe highly after what's last night.
Speaker 2 (09:43):
He was a standout.
Speaker 1 (09:44):
Nfl dot Com put in their list of standout players
in the East West Tron game, the very first player
listed Eastern Washington wide receiver Afton Chisholm. The Senior Bowl
is tomorrow and Mobile, Alabama. As I said, we're gonna
talk at eleven am to James Foster from Mobile from
the thirty third team about who has it out to
him and we'll also talk about how you just have
one great drill and you can just pack up and
(10:04):
go home. Now to see it just blows my mind.
We talked about that yesterday. It's just ridiculous, all right.
About this federal investigation into basketball. It's an investigation by
the FEDS into alleged organized game fixing in men's basketball,
both pro and college levels, and now it's across multiple
jurisdictions as a grand jury convened. Multiple jurisdictions are investigating
(10:26):
players at all levels. This is according to the Wall
Street Journal in Sports Illustrated. It started with Johntay Porter
that we talked about at the top of the show,
banned for life last year. But that was a bit player,
and we said at the time that he probably is
getting made an example out. Now investigators are scrutinizing performances
of other NBA players. Veteran guard Terry Rogier the Miami
Heat at Christmas mentioned being investigated from his time with
(10:48):
the Charlotte Hornets in twenty twenty three, The Wall Street
Journal ported, it's all about prop bets and the unusual
betting activity on certain players underperforming. So what happens is
the bookies, the books excuse me, not the boogie.
Speaker 2 (11:02):
The books.
Speaker 1 (11:02):
The Nevada sites and legal betting sites are obligated in
their agreements with the government in the league to report
unusual activity that comes up about otherwise obscure game. And
it was John tay Port that the FEDS got alerted
by johntay Porter with an amazing amount of money being
(11:23):
bet on John tay Porter not playing ten minutes or
whatever it was in a game. He played two minutes
and took himself out with a fake injury. All the
betters on the prop bet collected huge bucks. Johntay Porter
got cuts of it. There's the game fixing. It was
the same thing with Terry Porter. Porter allegedly underperforming in games.
The prop BET's saying he's going to score eight points,
(11:45):
say in a game, and he only.
Speaker 2 (11:46):
Scores three or what have you. He takes a cut.
Speaker 1 (11:50):
How much you think that would be for one game?
Five thousand, a million maybe depending on bet on it.
Speaker 3 (11:55):
Because of who he was, and he's like you mentioned
twelve thirteen player. Him getting three points is like you know,
you put let's say it's plus five thousand because he
plays like a minute a game. You could win some
serious cash about porcuse me? Yeah, well's here, he's a
talented puny much money? How many I'm saying, how much
do you think he gets in a scheme like this?
Speaker 2 (12:15):
Well, see I was reading he was helping out friends.
Speaker 3 (12:17):
Ah, so let's say, you know, I got it off, buddy,
I got my homie Greg Baill, who he's not that
dumb to take it himself.
Speaker 2 (12:23):
Nah. He was mainly like, all right, bro, you need
me to get seventeen.
Speaker 3 (12:26):
Like I'm gonna try to go crazy against the Washington
Wizards and get you twenty points, as opposed to mister
Porter here, who just I mean, they're both wrong. But
there's levels to this obviously, So we'll see what We'll
see what happens. Just because as as you're alluding to,
the bigger thing is, well, okay, Terry is a better player.
He's more valuable with the Miami Heat. We understand John
(12:49):
Te was just in the league bouncing around to the
G League.
Speaker 2 (12:52):
You can ban him for life, not a big deal.
But Terry, he's asked, he's actually any A lot of
teams would love to have him.
Speaker 3 (12:59):
That's why the Miami traded so this. You know they're
they're putting a difficult situation. I personally believe he'll get
suspended for a season if it's you know, all this
comes out to be accurate, this is I think he's
gonna be suspended for a year.
Speaker 2 (13:11):
I wouldn't anything less.
Speaker 3 (13:12):
I'd be a little shocked, but I understand him as
a player, and I guess it depends on what else
he was doing with the money. Right, If you're just
tipping off your homies, maybe I can be like, all right,
you know you're helping out a friend. That's still terrible,
but I'll give you a year's suspension for that as
opposed to banning you for life. So we'll see how
the NBA Adam Silver comes down with this.
Speaker 1 (13:33):
Again, there's a massive hypocrisy here of teams of players
being held to a standard of no betting, nothing to
do with organized betting, yet the leagues are raking in
advertising revenue draft kings. You can't go five minutes from
an NBA, NHL, NFL, Major League baseball game without DraftKings.
Speaker 2 (13:51):
This real time odds. I was watching a Penguins.
Speaker 1 (13:54):
Game on the flight home from the trick the other night,
and they had real time odds in overtime Penguin's minus
one twenty and Utah minus one twenty one. Can we
just over time's only five minutes long? Do we need
to have a DraftKings promo? What the real time odds are? Anyway,
you dance with the devil, you get burned. And now
the players are getting suspended for something that the league
is buying into and breaking money off of.
Speaker 2 (14:17):
Nuts. Don't let it into the league if.
Speaker 1 (14:19):
You don't want players to be tempted in getting into nuts.
Speaker 2 (14:22):
Anyway.
Speaker 1 (14:23):
The investigation also includes lower level Division one programs in
college basketball, and then what stuff is like Wright State
at Eastern Michigan or Eastern Michigan at Central Michigan Temple
last year was UAB was favored by a point and
a half in the first half. Another prop be point
and a half in the first half against Temple, and
Temple lost by eight in the first half. We're down
(14:45):
by eight at half time and the player to start,
the leading scorer from Temple that night, was three for
nine from the field and he Feds alleged we're in
a game fixing scheme where they made sure he scored
fewer points than his average. UAB blew out Temple. He
got thrown off Temple's team when they found out he's
being investigated. He transferred to Virginia Tech. Virginia Tech found
(15:06):
out what happened to Temple and they won't let him play.
He's not playing college. Basically's playing in Germany professionally. Right now,
they're doing prop bets on players. They're doing first half
over unders. College players can do this because they get
it online on their phones. It's so easy, it's so proliferal.
It's just everywhere. It's not very hard for an eighteen
to twenty one year old man or woman to find
(15:28):
this stuff. And then they're getting tempted by bookies and
others who influence games, and then they get hammered for
it again, you dance with the devil when you get burned.
I'm not talking about the player and talk to the leagues.
The leagues want to take in the player the revenue,
and then they slam the players for being associated with Well,
they're associated with too, but they get the payment legally.
(15:49):
The player gets the payment illegally and gets slammed. There's
a hypocrisy all over this.
Speaker 2 (15:54):
But there's a grand jury convene multiple jurisdictions. As I said,
So this story is going to go on for a while.
Speaker 3 (16:00):
All right, ignore the friends part. I'm double backing on that,
but I'm not seeing an information. But he was definitely
question March, came up with injuries and not playing full games.
Speaker 1 (16:10):
Right, So he went out of a game with talk
about Harrow twenty twenty three, went out with an ankle
injury in a March late March for the Charlotte Hornets.
Charlotte's out of it by then. He underperformed in that game,
collected the money alleged, he's allegedly, but the federal investigations
showing crazy. And then he stayed out the rest of
the year. And of course he did because he got paid.
You know what I mean, I got mine, I'm done.
(16:33):
This team's ten and sixty, I'm out of here.
Speaker 2 (16:35):
It's crazy.
Speaker 1 (16:36):
Yeah, And so now he's getting investigator of the Feds
and they've already nabbed a few guys and plea bargains
and dudes from all East coast, West coast.
Speaker 2 (16:44):
It's crazy. And I didn't know Porter is looking at
potentially facing three to four years in prison.
Speaker 1 (16:49):
Yeah, that's the other thing. Hell with suspensions you get
nabbed for this stuff. It's federal, it's felony stuff. You
go to prison for this stuff. Yet the league still
collect the money for the Draft Kings and MGM bets
And what's the faces all over the commercials for MGM
and Caesars and it's everywhere.
Speaker 2 (17:08):
I mean, hey, there's the hypocrisy coming up.
Speaker 1 (17:13):
Jorge Polanco, you remember him, Marris where we play the
May song, welcome back, Welcome back, Chris, Who's back, Welcome
back Carter, Welcome back Horgey Polanco, but he's not gonna
play second base. We'll talk about the trickle down effects
of the signing of Joge Polanka with the Mariner's next
eleven o'clock, James Foster from the Mobile Alabama's Senior Bowl
(17:35):
the thirty thirteen will tell us what he's seen at
the NFL's All Star Game this week and how it
relates to the positions the Seahawks need to upgrade this offseason.
All that coming up on ninety three point three KJRFM.
Speaker 4 (17:45):
If you're listening to your one and only home for
the Super Bowl, Super Bowl, make us your number one
pre set in your car and on the new iHeartRadio
app Now back to Great Bell and Christopher ki on
Sports Radio ninety three point three.
Speaker 2 (18:00):
Katy dreardm.
Speaker 1 (18:10):
Welcome back to the Greg Belt Show with Christopher Kidd
on ninety three point three KJRFM. Other Seahawks news from today,
Albert Breer is report sports hoostly reporting that Seahawks vice
President Coaching Operations Matt caparl He's one of these guys
that does everything gets done inside that building.
Speaker 2 (18:26):
He's one of them. He gets a lot of stuff done.
Speaker 1 (18:29):
Matt Capearle has been with Pete Carroll since he was
at USC before he came to the Seahawks, like pre
twenty ten. Then he Matt Caperro was working with and
for Pete Carroll's entire time with the Seahawks. He's technically
the vice president of coaching Operations. He's a get done
guy and behind the scenes guy. The Seahawks. Well, he's
leaving the Seahawks to rejoin Pete Carroll with the Raiders.
Speaker 2 (18:50):
You can see that coming. There's the first one. Yeah,
that one's domino has fallen.
Speaker 1 (18:55):
Right, that's not quite on the field and impacting that
fans would know, but those of the people that work,
those of us who work in the building. Know that
Matt Capro is like, get it done guy around the
scenes there. So Mike McDonald loses him to Pete Carroll
and the Raiders over under. How many more guys are
going to lose? Three and a half?
Speaker 2 (19:15):
You count? You got everybody in Creon Caro probably over Wow.
I mean that's not too crazy, is it. Well?
Speaker 1 (19:21):
No, if you consider and we're gonna talk about this
later and the show, Quint Kubiak is going to bring
in some of his own guys on the offensive staff.
But there isn't anybody from that offensive staff that was
from Pete Carroll. I would think Carl Scott is out.
I wouldn't think he's out because Mike McDonald want to
keep him, But I would think that Mike that Pete
Carroll is going to make a move for the defensive
backs coach.
Speaker 2 (19:40):
That he brought over here. Carl, what do you do?
Speaker 3 (19:42):
Yeah, that's a good question, because you love Pete, but
maybe you love what's happening in Seattle or.
Speaker 1 (19:47):
Yeah, he wasn't with Carroll all that long. He was
with the Vikings before that with Alabama. Yeah, but Pete
Carroll brought him to the Seahawks I wonder if all
that's the only holdover from the Pete Carroll staff on
Mike McDonald's staff this past season of the twenty three
co which is that's the only one that was holdover,
So that would be the only one that would come
to mind.
Speaker 2 (20:03):
So maybe under maybe maybe the under three and a half.
We'll have to keep an eye on Smith. Yeah, I
think we will keep an eye absolutely.
Speaker 1 (20:13):
Or hey Polanca, you remember him, but Alex Bragman still
a free agent.
Speaker 2 (20:16):
The Mariners needed a.
Speaker 1 (20:17):
Third baseman, would you say his name was? Or Hey Polanco,
he set me up on that. I should have seen
that guy.
Speaker 2 (20:29):
You serious?
Speaker 1 (20:30):
For those who just joining the show, Chris found a
new toy here a couple of weeks ago, and now
he's from Spider Man.
Speaker 2 (20:34):
Right, love it? Yeah? Absolutely, yeah, yeah he's see I
got that. Or maybe you told me that Spider Man two.
But nonetheless, Okay, anyway, so Bragman.
Speaker 1 (20:42):
The Astros have not wanted to resign Breman a dinyone want
to pay his price World Series winner and star for
them for a lot of years at third base, and
they reportedly wanted to sign Hore Polanco, And everyone out
here is like, yeah, go ahead, Well, Polanco, the Mariners
just resigned him yesterday. You remember him. The Mariner sent
four players to Minnesota before last season to get him,
(21:02):
but said he was going to fix second base. Then
he had more strikeouts than games played, one hundred and
thirty seven strikeouts on hundred and eighteen games played, a
twenty nine point two percent strikeout rate, one of every
almost one out every three at bats.
Speaker 2 (21:13):
What say you said? What or hypco No?
Speaker 1 (21:16):
Twenty twenty nine point two percent. That's unbelievable.
Speaker 2 (21:20):
That's that's crazy.
Speaker 1 (21:22):
I mean, if he played enough games, he would have
led the league far and away.
Speaker 2 (21:26):
He played one hundred eighteen games. It is great. Holy
Rodriguez struck out twenty five and a half percent times.
That doesn't help either. Twenty nine point two percent does done? Real?
Speaker 1 (21:35):
Why not every three times you're walking back to the
dugout with a bat in your hand. Wow, Because he
was an eighteen percent guy before last season, then he
went out last year. You can't blame Marine layer and
pitching on.
Speaker 2 (21:46):
Maybe it's the park. I don't know, Yeah, it's the best. Oh,
it's the background, that's right. We forgot. There's a lot
of reasons why the Mariner stink.
Speaker 3 (21:53):
The background batters I forgot, and they said we're gonna
bring him back.
Speaker 2 (21:58):
We think yeah, we think one was so yeah.
Speaker 1 (22:01):
So what they had was the way his old contract was,
his option for this year kicked in would have been
twelve million dollars.
Speaker 2 (22:07):
So they cut him and now.
Speaker 1 (22:08):
They're bringing them back for seven point seventy five million
with a chance that incentives to go above that on.
Speaker 2 (22:14):
Performance bonuses in vesting player option man. So at least
they're saving some money.
Speaker 1 (22:18):
But they're getting back a guy who struck out thirty
percent of the time last year. So the Mariners are
planning on him playing third base. Has he done that before? Well,
he's played twenty four games at third base and his
eleven year of major league career, so not a ton
to say the least. He played thirteen I think it
was thirteen games there in twenty twenty three with the
Twins last year with Minnesota. So now what a second base?
So first of all four nine, four or five one?
(22:40):
What do you you saw Hori Polanco last year?
Speaker 2 (22:42):
Don't do this, we shouldn't do this.
Speaker 1 (22:44):
We do this. How do you feel about Horry Polocko
with third base? You know, It struck me in the
shower this morning, Chris, because that's where I do all
my great thinking, and I.
Speaker 2 (22:50):
Think everybody does that.
Speaker 3 (22:52):
I will have some crazy great ideas in the shower
to get out forget all.
Speaker 2 (22:56):
Exactly time you Telloffen.
Speaker 3 (22:58):
So I'm happy you freaking remembered because I know there's
somewhere out someone out there listening.
Speaker 1 (23:02):
They'd be like, yeah, I have great how many of
you listening are the same, but oh yeah, or I'll
definitely do that, or oh yeah, my wife told.
Speaker 3 (23:09):
Me I need to great rap song I do in
the shower and be like, damn, I was spitting, and
then remember anything I wrapped about.
Speaker 2 (23:15):
But AnyWho, water's pretty hot.
Speaker 1 (23:17):
I guess anyway, I thought about the shower.
Speaker 2 (23:20):
I get why the Mariners resigned, Hory Palanks.
Speaker 3 (23:22):
Can you write a story on this, because I would
love to read it. I know you can't just get
it out in four minutes.
Speaker 2 (23:26):
Here, I'm to get on in thirty seconds. They think
by moving him to second base to third base, he
won't strike out as much. I mind blowing. I that's it.
Speaker 3 (23:35):
That's the I don't know how that changes much. You
move ninety feet, he'll get you right.
Speaker 1 (23:40):
Yes, he'll get to spend three hours watching from a
different angle, and all of a sudden he won't strike
out at the plate.
Speaker 2 (23:45):
I think that's what it is.
Speaker 3 (23:47):
Sounds like a coach trying to coach here. I like that, Greg,
Kevin Sitzer. No, that's that's the Greg bell I coach, Chris.
Speaker 2 (23:53):
I know. Move, Yeah, let's move. I hate Jimmy's you
paid second base a lot.
Speaker 3 (23:58):
We're gonna move you to third just because you know
ninety feet difference, you might see the game differently. What
do you say, Jimmy coach? I like your thought process.
Jimmy's now hitting. I don't know.
Speaker 2 (24:09):
Eighty five? What a change? Greg?
Speaker 3 (24:12):
If you're right, I think I'll give you flower. Is
there another explanation for it?
Speaker 2 (24:16):
Oh? I don't know. So what do we now have
at second base?
Speaker 1 (24:18):
Well, you get Dylan Moore, but the Marriners Leo Revas
remember him, Miles Master Bonie, the guy they traded a
couple prospects for from the Cubs, which a lot of
people didn't want to do. They didn't want to give
up prospects. Can you remember that? I do remember that
that story broke during the show, and people.
Speaker 2 (24:35):
Were like, what.
Speaker 1 (24:36):
Yeah, that did not go over well. No, Master Bonie
played third base for the Cubs last year. I also
played second. And then there's some guy named Ryan Blisz.
More got more Ryan Bliss please, but they got Dylan Moore,
Lerias Miles, Master Bonie, and Ryan Bliss. So right now
are their options at second base.
Speaker 3 (24:51):
Here's where I'll say this, Greg, at least I like
your explanation. It's very cliche to the point, and maybe
it works out. Maybe I'm royal.
Speaker 2 (25:00):
I don't know, but maybe I'm wrong. Maybe I'm wrong,
and they and he is playing way better. Watch this.
Speaker 1 (25:05):
He's going to strike out ten percent of the time
and hit thirty five runs. He's playing third base.
Speaker 3 (25:09):
No, that would be amazing, that would be huge. That
means I do need hu. He'll play well. All your
other stars do what they did better last season. JP Crawford,
who we kind of talked about a little bit yesterday
that with Luke, if JP Crawford could stay healthy, take
the next step, be better than he was.
Speaker 2 (25:26):
Wow, we're talking about baseball in September and Seattle. Huh
what do you say, Greg? October?
Speaker 1 (25:32):
Maybe Okay, Well, well, well, let's get to September. Let's
get to April first. But yeah, yeah, I hear you.
Speaker 2 (25:38):
I hear you.
Speaker 1 (25:40):
It is crazy, but you're right, four nite four or
five one. Who would you put at second base? Of
the people I just mentioned Dylan Moore, Leo, Rioboz, Miles Master, Bonie,
Ryan Bliss, combination of all four?
Speaker 2 (25:52):
You know my vote? Or Ryan Bliss? Please? You know
my vote.
Speaker 1 (25:56):
You know what I'm saying. Who would you put in there? Christ?
Speaker 3 (25:59):
I like, I know Dylan Moore, Agan's was That was
what I was going to say, But I'm is he
every day? Well, that's what I'm gonna get destroyed on
the text line for which you know. I love him,
I love a little heat. I can stay in the kitchen.
Give me Dylan Moore please every day? You know when
they say Chris and this game of Jeopardy for Mariners,
marender for five hundred points?
Speaker 2 (26:19):
Who do you want? What bases of? Again?
Speaker 3 (26:21):
Greg second at second base? I'll take Dylan more for
five hundred points please. And then at the end of
the season the stats come up, Dylan, I need you
to do your thing every day.
Speaker 2 (26:33):
Yes, I know it's risky.
Speaker 1 (26:35):
The problem is, Dyl, what you know what you say, well,
Dylan Moore hit three against right hand to hitters.
Speaker 2 (26:40):
I know, but guess what, he only hit two twenty
against left handers twenty nine.
Speaker 3 (26:44):
Hey, you know, maybe put him out there only when
the lefties are throwing.
Speaker 2 (26:47):
I don't know. There's a start. He had eighty five
starts last year, Chris, that's not every day. I realize that. Guys,
he needs to play better. I will leave it at that.
But I like him.
Speaker 1 (26:57):
I like his speed. I like that he played multiple positions.
He's got a little bit of pop.
Speaker 2 (27:01):
It's definitely a positive there with him. He does strike
out a lot, or has everyone does. That's true him,
I know.
Speaker 3 (27:08):
But you say no, no, because you asked like, who
would you want there? And I was going to say Dylan.
But for all the reasons why you probably don't want
him at second is why you don't.
Speaker 1 (27:19):
So put him a third. Put him both a third. No,
it won't strike all his quotation there you go platoon. Well,
it seems they have multiple options now at second base.
It also seems they're handing Polanko the everyday third basement job.
If they're guaranteeing am eight million dollars with a player option,
on top of that, So I'm with it.
Speaker 2 (27:36):
I don't know, man, it's just I just don't want
to say the same thing against saving bucks. That's what
they're doing.
Speaker 1 (27:42):
Bottom line, they saved They went from twelve million to
seven point seventy five million with Polanco instead of going
out and getting a not that bragman would be the answer,
but someone like that. No, they could erase all of this, Seriously,
they could erase the entire offseason, the f minus the
guys just going off on him and who was.
Speaker 2 (28:00):
It Hayman on Oh, we had him on.
Speaker 3 (28:03):
We also had him on what's Oh my gosh, this
is always fun when we talked about and we can't
remember who they are.
Speaker 1 (28:08):
Meanwhile, New York based former GM why is it on
tip of her tongues?
Speaker 2 (28:12):
Because this is what happened sports. He was talking about
Pete Alonzo.
Speaker 1 (28:15):
Oh my gosh, give me one moment next, Jim Jim Bowden,
thank you?
Speaker 2 (28:21):
How easy was that? Jim Bowden? Didn't he just slay
them the other day, Dave, and he's disgusted.
Speaker 3 (28:27):
He's going to throw up in your mouth with their
offseason moves, right, and he's one hundred percent.
Speaker 2 (28:31):
Right, and he's in New York, imagine being in Seattle.
Speaker 3 (28:34):
Is also someone that last season thought the window was
as big as it would be, correct because of the
pitching staff. You having Julio and they just craped the bed.
And now you go into an off season where you
do the same thing, which is.
Speaker 2 (28:48):
Nothing and he can't believe it, but they say money.
Speaker 1 (28:52):
So they went from ten twelve million on Polanco to
seven point seventy five million. But you could erase all
of this negativity of the fan base saying you haven't
done Diddley by signing Peter Alonzo to be your every
day first base.
Speaker 2 (29:07):
Sorry, the text on had me laughing, we'll get it
at eleven thirty. Someone just texting something hilarious.
Speaker 3 (29:13):
So nonetheless, though, Greg, there's a bunch of options at
second or third base that are within the team because
as you mentioned, they're.
Speaker 2 (29:20):
Not going outside. That saves money if you stay within
the team or they're not doing it. So we're just
gonna have to.
Speaker 1 (29:25):
You don't think Pete Alonso, No, I'm saying you would
like to be he will. Let's go one year fifteen
million for Peter Alonzo.
Speaker 2 (29:32):
Sign me up, work working, I work, work, can the Moddle.
He probably wouldn't sign for fifteen He probably not, but hey,
we're wishful thinking.
Speaker 1 (29:39):
Well they blew that fifteen million budget budget on this.
Speaker 2 (29:43):
We come back.
Speaker 3 (29:44):
Greg, I want you to be Pete Alonzo, and well,
actually I will be.
Speaker 2 (29:49):
Well that's the other thing.
Speaker 3 (29:50):
I will be pet Alonzo. You pitched to me why
I should join the Mariners for fifteen millions? Well, and
that's you just nailed it. It's not like in free
agency you just offer and he signed. The player has
to agree.
Speaker 2 (30:00):
No, exactly, So maybe we should that exercise.
Speaker 3 (30:02):
Greg, you get in your bag and you pitch me
on why I should join the mayor is for for
one year fifteen million dollars to play with these guys
more Ryan Bliss.
Speaker 1 (30:12):
Please, that's what I say. You already have him under
player club control contract. Give him a chance. I know
he was overwhelmed by fastballs last year, but man, when
he got on base, he did something.
Speaker 2 (30:21):
I think. Are you talking about the trash cans that
you were laughing at? No, no, no, there was another.
Speaker 3 (30:27):
There's a bunch that have come in, but there is
one from the four to two five that I will
save until eleven thirty because it's hilarious.
Speaker 2 (30:36):
Let's talk about something else next.
Speaker 1 (30:38):
Let's talk about the Seahawks and what Klein Kubiak's You
don't try to pitch me.
Speaker 2 (30:41):
Oh, we'll try to pitch you too. We'll try. We'll
try to fit that in. I don't. I don't.
Speaker 1 (30:45):
It'll take me more than the commercial break to come
up with a pitch.
Speaker 2 (30:48):
Gotcha, gotcha? Slipping there? Great good.
Speaker 1 (30:51):
Clint kuby Act's first task is Seahawks new offensive coordinator.
Speaker 2 (30:54):
What's that going to be? It's pretty clear what he's
got to do? Job one?
Speaker 1 (30:57):
Like soon that's next. On ninety three point three KJRFM,
Welcome back to the Greg Best Show with Christopher Kidd
On ninety three point three kJ RFM.
Speaker 2 (31:15):
Okay, Chris, I've come up with a pit. Let's do it.
Speaker 1 (31:18):
Pete Alonzo, Yes, sir, this is Jerry Puddle with the
Seattle Mariners.
Speaker 2 (31:23):
Oh man, you again? What's up? Man? How you doing again?
You're being wishful?
Speaker 4 (31:28):
Hey?
Speaker 2 (31:28):
I know we don't think they've talked to them. You don't.
You don't publicize much? Brother? What's up? What can I
do for you? Man? What are you thinking? I would
like to cover the marit to the Mariners.
Speaker 1 (31:36):
Hit for us, play first base every day one year
fifteen million, and then you can go back into free
agency if you want next year. Man, my worth is
more than fifteen exactly. I'm sorry, John Stanton won't let
me spend a dollar more, even though the may.
Speaker 3 (31:50):
Well tell me about the environment. Like, I holy, all
seem like a really fun dude to play with. So like,
maybe do you love bubbleheads? I mean, you know it's cool.
Speaker 1 (31:57):
We'll make you a bubblehead. We'll have a Pete Alonzo
bibblehead night. We'll have a pee alenso spring training bibblehead Night.
We'll have a Peda Alonso in the on deck circle.
Bibblehead Night is an additional bonus on top of the
fifteen mil.
Speaker 2 (32:07):
Yes, you know what.
Speaker 1 (32:09):
Okay, if we've been pass the hat and raise it,
go fund me in time. But we will have a
pet Alonzo standing in first base without his mick. He's
waiting to Doug out to bring it out. Biblehead night.
We'll have a pet Alonzo waiting for his car at
the valet. Biblehead night.
Speaker 2 (32:24):
We'll lose nine bibbleheads if you want. Do you like fireworks?
You know, if you know every fourth, I gotta have
a little fun with my family.
Speaker 1 (32:31):
Fourth we're gonna have bibblehead Nights on the fourth of April,
the fourth of May, the fourth of June, the fourth
of July, the fourth of August, the fourth of September,
to be my little staple monthly bibblehead nights.
Speaker 3 (32:41):
Okay, I'm starting to think let me get back to
my agent on that one. Just because I mean, Triad,
I kind of want to play with Julio. He seems
like a really cool guy. I like what you guys
have going. You know, your pitching staff is elite. You know,
I think I might be goble to help out your
offense for sure.
Speaker 2 (32:53):
Yeah, we got a nice park too. What's what's the
name of the park? T Mobile Park. Okay, I see
what you did.
Speaker 3 (32:59):
That's the name for real TEAMO will part you know what,
Let me get back to let me talk to my agent,
and we'll get back with you.
Speaker 2 (33:05):
Does that sound good, mister Dupoto? How many times have
I heard that before? Sir?
Speaker 3 (33:09):
Well find a business in the mail you sold me.
You know, I just got to make sure my agent
is your agent. Bibbleheads and fireworks, bibble Heads and fireworks, done.
Speaker 1 (33:19):
There you go, it's just that easy. We just got
Peter Alonzo to the Seattle Mariners.
Speaker 3 (33:22):
Well, shoot, if it was that easy, the Mariners would
definitely get him, probably not at least they tried. But
we haven't even got a report of that.
Speaker 2 (33:31):
No.
Speaker 3 (33:31):
Like again, I was like, oh, that's why I wouldn't.
That's why for me, it's like, Okay, maybe he's turned
down offers before and Peter Alonzo, but the Mariners don't
even try. I think fans would be okay with at
least going up to an offering and having a conversation,
as opposed to we know we can't afford him, so
(33:53):
why even why even try? The worst Peter Alonzo and
his agent could say is no, I.
Speaker 1 (33:57):
Think at this point the Mariner's pitch would be one
year so you can go re enter free agency while
you're still in your twenties. I think that's I don't know.
And he's unsigned, so he's obviously waiting on a certain
number or certain See.
Speaker 3 (34:08):
What about the idea of playing for a franchise that's
done nothing and you could be a big piece of
that pie. Not saying that players like we want to
I want to join the Mariners team because I could
make them a winner.
Speaker 1 (34:17):
I'm not him and talk to him in line at
a function at the All Star Game. That, yeah, I did,
and he glowed about how he loved the city and
he'd been here once with a Mets series, but never
spend a lot of time, and this is his first
expect Those are things.
Speaker 3 (34:30):
You got to jump at if you're I would assume not. Obviously,
the POTO and those guys don't know that. Greg talked
to peyt Alonso for ten minutes off the side, right,
But those are things you got to think about, like, sure,
just go down to spit ball.
Speaker 2 (34:43):
You never know what could happen.
Speaker 3 (34:44):
I'm not saying they'll sign the dude just off of
a ten minute conversation, but how hard is to ask?
The worst that he could say is I'm not interested.
Speaker 1 (34:51):
It was a Nelly concert. I took my son to
remember that, Yeah, yeah, yeah, you mentioned that. I took
my son and he loved it. He loved it. At
the T Mobile event, Pink carp and Pete Alonzo was
there and I talked to him for.
Speaker 2 (35:02):
Five ten minutes outside the Sodo showbox.
Speaker 3 (35:05):
And well, if you run into him again, you do
this assignment where you pretend to be Jerry Depot and
you get the interview exactly and see what he said
I was doing.
Speaker 2 (35:13):
Yeah, I was just rapping with him. I wasn an interviewing.
Oh yeah, I get that.
Speaker 1 (35:18):
Clint Kubiak his first decision defensive as a new offensive
coordinator for the Seahawks whether to keep Scott Huff as
the offensive line coach. Mike McDonald said when his three
week search to replaced Ryan Grebezosi began last month, he
was given a new play caller authority to hire his
own offensive staff, bring his own guys. Last year with
the Saints, Clint Kubiak was the offensive coordinator for John
(35:39):
Benton was the Saints O line coach.
Speaker 2 (35:40):
John Benton is one.
Speaker 1 (35:41):
Of the most experienced offensive line coaches in the football world,
thirty three years as a coach, nineteen of them in
the NFL. John Ben's probably gonna be looking for a
new job soon when the new the Saints finally hire
a new head coach. That's why Kubiak has a new job.
The Saints staff is expected to all go away. John
Benton could be on the market as a new line coach.
(36:02):
He was the Jets O line coach and run game
coordinator in twenty twenty one and twenty two. Remember there
was some talk that Hank Frayley, if the Seahawks had
hired him, would be able to hire him himself as
a run game coordinator and bring someone else as a
pass game coordinator, a job share as it were. It
turned out Hank Frayley got the run coordinator job and
promotion to stay with the Lions as their O line coach. Well,
John Benton was the same for the Jets from twenty
(36:24):
twenty one and twenty two. He was a line O
line coach and run game coordinator. Before that, he was
the forty nine Ers offensive line coach from twenty seventeen
to twenty In the last twenty years, seven of the
offensive line, John Benton, his coach, finished in the top
ten in the league in rushing yards per game. So
that's an option. Remember that name, John Benton from the
Saints coming with Clint Kubiak to be the new offensive
(36:44):
line coach for the Seahawks. Now, I hate to just
send Scott Huff out. I really like Scott Huff personally
as a guy and covering him this past season, and
I personally for personal reasons, hope he stays.
Speaker 2 (36:55):
But the writings on the wall.
Speaker 1 (36:57):
Here that if Clint Kubiak is going to bring his
own guys, that Scott Help won't stay. And that's what
people inside Seahawk headquarters are waiting to see. Now what
the next move is in the offensive position coaches, now
that Klint Kubiak is back.
Speaker 2 (37:12):
Bots More than this, that of course going on in
the NFL.
Speaker 1 (37:15):
The Super Bowl is nine days away, as we all know,
Super Bowl Sunday and the Chiefs and Eagles. You can
hear that game, of course right here in Western One

process of pre draft has already started.
Speaker 2 (37:42):
Of course, the Senior.
Speaker 1 (37:43):

all week and We're going to talk to someone who's
been right on the field, watching all of the practice,
