Speaker 1 (00:00):
The Portland trail Blazers against the Clippers. Right, ye, let
me double check nowet Moms team coming back up here.
I feel like they have still team. Everybody, Let me
double check yep. Clippers will host the Portland trail Blazers
in Seattle as part of the twenty twenty four to
twenty five preseason for Rain City Showcase. The rain City Showcase,
we're giving away two tickets at at ten forty five
(00:22):
if you want to go see NBA basketball at Climate
Pledge Arena a preview. Now, we can't just say it's
a one off. It's a preview of what the Sonics
are going to be doing in that building probably twenty
twenty seven. The way the NBA expansion process is now
playing out, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver has pumped the break
somewhat on the process for expansion. But if you want
(00:46):
to win tickets ten forty five, we'll have We have
a question for you the Sonics related that we all
came up with. Jessamin McIntyre helped this out with. We'll
do that at ten forty five. As I said eleven o'clock,
Matt Mayok, we'll talk about the forty nine Ers side
of tonight's forty nine Ers Seahawks matchup up, Okay, Seattle,
natove O Day Graduate, Washington State. Cooper, how you feeling
they're gonna.
Speaker 2 (01:05):
Lose, but it'll be a it'll be a good measuring
stake because I finished watching the offensive film and there
was just so many missed opportunities, and then there was
opportunities that I saw that said, wow, if they do
this consistently, they might have some success. For example, Connor
Williams lays out a linebacker on a run on a
on a half back draw to Ken Walker and he
(01:26):
just punishes the linebacker. I'm thinking, if you do that
every running play, there might be success. They had another
play a pulling left guard and right guard Tomlinson and
I believe it was Bradford. Tomlinson whiffs on the block,
the linebacker makes the tackle. Its it's those type of details.
It's so simple, right, but if you don't execute it,
(01:46):
it's terrible. So I know, I know you. You and
Hugh talked about running the footballs and on the on
the roundtable, this moreing about how effected they're gonna running football.
It's really just simple, can they run block? Because they're
gonna Obviously they said all the right things. Ryan Grubby
take the blame. I'm going to do this. Everything changes
(02:07):
when aboy lines up and you see certain things like ah,
everything changes.
Speaker 1 (02:11):
If they don't run the night it's that Ryan Grebb
doesn't think the line can block, and I won't be
surprised if that happens again. But I do know they're
going to try it more. I know Ken only had
five attempts last year. He'll have He'll have five in
the first quarter. I bet tonight the first playof probably
will run. How's that sid would? Of course? There they
go by action. The DK Metcalf on the first play.
Speaker 2 (02:32):
And I think that's what coach Hombron said. Come out
and do like two play actions back to back play action,
get them going, and then run it. So I'm really
curious to see how that's going to play. But I
don't think this is gonna win the game. Move me wrong?
How's that sound?
Speaker 1 (02:44):
What do you think? Greg? I mean, I listened to you,
but I don't think they're gonna win either, because they're
they're just not good enough at the line of scrimmage.
They're not strong enough, they're not good enough they'll need turnovers,
which are always admitigating factor. But they they had a
turnover last week and didn't happen. They had a lead.
I'm not hearing that. No more of that. You guys
had a seven to zero lead, they gifted you a touchdown.
I call the turnover margin a push with a turnover
(03:06):
with a turnover on downs that they have. That is
that's basically a turnout statistically counted, but it effectively was
turnover on downs. Yeah. So the headlines brought to you
by Frost Food course. I choose chill much more to
talk about the Seahawks tonight three and two, one game
lead on the forty nine ers, who are two and three.
The Cardinals are also two and three in the division.
That's a five point fifteen kickoff. If you don't have
Amazon Prime, I'm proud of you. I don't either. You
(03:28):
can watch it on Channel thirteen locally. They are simulcasting
the Amazon Prime broadcast about Michael's kirkurb Street Taylor Hartling.
So you don't need to go subscribe to Prime this
afternoon and make Bezos even richer than he already is.
So just watch it on Channel thirteen for free. Coach
Mike McDonald says Riequollan is out sprained ankle, won't play tonight.
(03:53):
Was in a walking boot earlier this week. He was
not in a walking boot yesterday, and coach Mike McDonald
said he's actually moving around better. His quote was, we'll
see next week about Woolan playing ten days from now
in Atlanta. There's a trickle down effect. Obviously. We're going
to talk about that in a minute and what I
would do and what I think the Seahawks are going
to do. It's not what it appears. Wolan is one
(04:14):
of three defensive starters out. Myron Murphy's not going to
play for the third consecutive time because that hamstring. The
number one draft pick is not gonna be in the
middle of the defensive line. That's not going to help.
And key outside linebacker Chenn and Wols who not only
is missing this game, he's going on injured reserve. That
move will probably become official before the game today. That
will open up a roster spot, and I'll tell you
what I think they're going to do with that roster spot.
(04:36):
So Nuosu has a new injury now after top of
the spring need that took him a month to get
back for a month and plus made his season debut
twenty snaps later. He's got a thigh injury and he's
going to be out on injured reserve. Mike McDonald yesterday,
Chris didn't make it sound like it's going to be
the minimum four weeks either. He said, well, there's a
chance we can get him back by the end of
the year, and there's what twelve games still remaining, so
(04:58):
it's going to be a long term absence for and Genleman.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
Will let me ask you this, does Abe Lucas make
an appearance before.
Speaker 1 (05:05):
Yeah, I think there's a more likely possibility of that. Wow,
if Lucas plays it all this year, it would probably
be before Jennon Wilson comes back. At this point, we'll
see lead sac man Derek Hall and second sack man
Boy Mafay are both questionable and you're like, oh oh,
But Mike McDonald said yesterday that he thinks and the
(05:26):
Seahawks are confident that both will play even though they're
officially questionable. So Holl and Mafay likely to play. The
third questionable players Pro Bowl safety Julian Love. He's likely
to be a game time this decision. Mike McDonald said,
forty nine is going to be without injured running back
Christian McCaffrey again. He's still on injured reserves. You know,
Jordan Mason starting for him, is averaging one hundred and
(05:46):
forty four years ins rushing per game. That's not good
for Seattle either. Tight End George Kittle is going to
play with sore ribs, but the linebacker Fred Warner is
going to play with a bad ankle. They both played
injured in the forty nine Ers home lost the Cardinals
last weekend. They're missing they're starting safety who's injured again.
As Doug Baldwin said so eloquently in Glendale, Arizona after
(06:07):
a Thursday night Seahawks Arizona game, this blank should be illegal.
Twelfth Man postgame show with Dick Fane and Hugh Millen
right after the game, right here on ninety three point
three KJRFM, I asked you this morning on the air
at Seahawks round Table, do you take calls from fans
after those games? That to me would be highly entertaining.
Tonight would be a highly entertaining time to open up
(06:27):
the phone lines. The Jets, Yeah, what a team that
is whatever you think the Seahawks are up to, at
least they're not the Jets. They're demoting Aaron Rodgers's man,
Nathaniel Hackett, his offensive play caller. New interim coach Jeff
Alberg says the new quarterbacks or the new play caller
is going to be quarterback coach Todd Downing used to
be with the Titans. New Orleans will start rookie quarterback
(06:50):
Spencer Rattler. Remember when people wanted the Seahawks draft Spencer
Rattler out of South Carolina. He is now the quarterback
at the Saints because Derek Carr is injured with the
oblique and will be out multiple weeks. Saints play at
home against Tampa Bay, who had to escape the hurricane
down there last night. You saw it rip off the
roof of Tropicana Field, one hundred plus mile in Ira
wins Hurricane Milton. Devastation down there. Just starting to be
(07:13):
realized now that the sun has come up in Florida.
Those people have had two back to back hurricanes in
the last two and a half weeks. Washington Huski's four
and two play at Iowa nine am Saturday, right here
on ninety three point three KJFIM. I've solved the riddle
of why there's going to be a five am pregame
show with Dave Softy Maller and Hosky Honks. They're going
to be in Iowa, so it's only going to be
(07:34):
seven am Iowa City. Still a little early, but at
he's not pitch black Dark, but yes, the Husky Honk
pregame show will start Saturday with Dave Softy Maller from
Iowa City at five am Seattle Time. Game at nine
right here at ninety three point three KJRFAM with Tony
Castricna Course OKAM Cleveland and the Least Woodward on the
sideline four and one Washington State Cougar's returned from there
(07:56):
by play at Fresno State. That's a four pm kick
Saturday inn FS one television. Major League Baseball Playoffs Last night,
the Mets eliminated the Phillies in four games to advance
to the National League Championship Series. The final outs recorded by
another former Mariner, Edwin Diaz. The Dodgers had a bullpen
day facing elimination Game four in San Diego. Didn't look good,
and then eight pitchers shut out the Padres eight. That
(08:20):
was crazy eight nothing LA wins to send this Division
series back to Dodgers Stadium for deciding Game five. Entering Wednesday,
Chris No team in Major League Baseball history had ever
thrown a postseason shutout in a game in which the
starter recorded four or fewer outs. Then it happened twice
in about an hour. The Dodgers did it right after
the Detroit Tigers did it to Cleveland. Tigers had a
(08:43):
bullpen day and then shut out the Guardians to take
a two to win series lead. Detroit can win the
series at home today in Game four. The Yankees won
Game three at Kansas City last night on gian Carlos
Stanton home run in the eighth inning. New York leads
that series two to one entering Game four. Teeny in
Kansas City and tennis legend Raphael Dall was retiring at
(09:04):
the end of this year. Thirty eight year old Spaniard
has won twenty two Grand Slam tournaments, including fourteen French
Open titles. That's off too. Are you the man they
call the Spaniard? What's that from Gladiator? I'm glad I'm
asking you questions like this. I've never watched gladi here,
what all right, I'm done doing the radio side. Christopher
(09:28):
Kidd has exited the producer's booth. He didn't know this
musical interlude that we're going to play for you coming
out of the next break, and I thought that was
equally calling. I might get Chris back in time for
the end of the show. The Seahawks here, they're chilly,
Welcome back, sir. I can't be the only one listening
(09:50):
who hasn't seen gladiat Uh.
Speaker 2 (09:52):
I just went out and announced it to everyone in
the sports pit and they all just got up and
looked at me like I was joking, and then asked you.
Speaker 1 (09:58):
Was like, oh, I haven't either. Oh, thank you, Ashley Ryan.
You are raising children.
Speaker 2 (10:04):
What should we do with Greg Bell? At this point?
This is unbelievable. This man sat up there on a
state I haven't seen it. Chris, okay, ladies and gentlemen,
I don't know what to do anymore. I'm okay, he's okay.
We know he's a great guy, but that has nothing
to do You are disputing that, right, Oh my goodness,
all right, continue with headlines.
Speaker 1 (10:23):
I'm just lost the words. I'm done. Oh he's done.
That was my last headline. I've never seen glad of you.
Oh my gosh. Lord, all right, I don't think my
wife has either. So there's three people.
Speaker 2 (10:33):
Actually, I think we should just stop and move on.
This is not good.
Speaker 1 (10:37):
No, it's not apparently Okay, No, we.
Speaker 2 (10:41):
Don't need to do that, because it's gonna be bad. Greg,
I'm telling you it's going to be bad. Gladiator is
a classic. You have to go see this movie.
Speaker 1 (10:50):
You have to. What's so good about it? I've heard
tons about it? Well what have you heard? Greg? Let's
just start there. What what do you remember? People? To me?
You just this again. You nobody's gonna like this. To me,
you just throw Gladiator in with Game of Thrones, with
the House of Dragon, with all of them. It's like
dungeons and dragons on the screen.
Speaker 2 (11:09):
I haven't seen. I haven't seen Game of Thrones or
any of that. Oh okay, So I don't know how
that relates. But I do know there's no dragons and
Gladiator if that helps. There might be a lot. There's
a tiger and all that.
Speaker 1 (11:21):
But right, but as far as fantasy, it reminds me
of dungeons and Dragons, which was huge when I was
a kid. You ever heard of that board game Dungeons
and Dragons. Of course, that reminds me of Dungeons and
Dragons on a screen. That's what all these movies, I
just throw them, lump them all into the same thing.
House of Dragons and Game of Thrones, and I guess
Gladiator is a little different than that.
Speaker 2 (11:40):
No, it's it's very different. You know, this is a
man that's looking for revenge.
Speaker 1 (11:44):
Oh, an age old tale. You god damn right. So
who's the star of it?
Speaker 2 (11:52):
Russell Crawl? Oh okay, it's a jam pack cast walking
Phoenix is in it. I guess those two is all
you need to know. And you're like, huh, maybe I'll
check it out.
Speaker 1 (12:00):
See when I think of Russell Crowe, I think of
him trying to take down the cigarette industry.
Speaker 2 (12:04):
Will give me more. I'm trying to sixty minutes. Oh okay, okay, okay.
But this was a young Russell crow This is what
two thousand, so twenty four years ago.
Speaker 1 (12:14):
Yeah, and Russell Crowe in the in the cigarette tobacle,
I think that was before two thousand.
Speaker 2 (12:21):
So yeah, this is this is when he was, you know,
buff young man, thirty years old, I would imagine, But yeah,
he he killed the role. He did a really good
job and great movie. I watched it over the week
ad with my fiance because she.
Speaker 1 (12:33):
Was like, oh, I don't remember if I've seen.
Speaker 2 (12:34):
It, So we ended up watching it, and boy, it
was just as good as I saw as the first tie.
Speaker 1 (12:39):
It better than the Prisons movie. Did you recommend it? Yes? Greg, Yes,
it was Brawl and Cell Block ninety nine had one listener.
What the hell, kid? That movie was awful. It's fighting
scenes were terrible. It was just, hey man, that sounds
like a parody. It was not a parody, because boy
(13:00):
was it serious. But go watch them Greg, some Gladiator.
And for all you texts talking about I haven't seen
it either. You know what, go watch it. Don't be
like mister Bell. You have all weekends. It's not that
there's no particular reason why I haven't, other than raising
children for the last twenty one years.
Speaker 2 (13:16):
You know what, time is thirty, it's time for bed.
Daddy and mommy are gonna watch Gladiator.
Speaker 1 (13:20):
Good night. Not quite how it worked, it's exactly how
it should work.
Speaker 2 (13:24):
Tell them kids go to bed. You and wifey enjoy
a nice little movie times. You know that's how my
parents did it? It is eight thirty good night, No, no,
you cannot stay up news radar movie, goodbye, see you
in the morning.
Speaker 1 (13:39):
That's how it was for me. Fourtnite four or five one?
Have you seen Gudi some time that I haven't? And
would you put your kids to bed at eight thirty
so you could watch all these movies? Or do you
rated R films?
Speaker 2 (13:50):
Because Greg was basically alluding to, Hey, Chris, I got
children in the house. Don't know if I want them
walking in on me watching some dude getting stabbed to
death by it.
Speaker 1 (13:58):
That's true.
Speaker 2 (13:58):
Yeah, I understand that. So yes, I mean, Greg, do
you want an example, I'll just read one from the
text line from the two six. This is utterly shocking,
is it?
Speaker 1 (14:09):
Greg? It's a classic What is your classic movie? Greg?
Speaker 2 (14:12):
For you that when you were growing up, anyone around
your age had to see it The Sandlot. That's like
if I've never seen The Sandlot, that's that's the comparison.
And I have seen The Sandlot, So that lets you know, Greg,
I'm onto something here, buddy. This is a great film
about the Roman Empire, about the coliseum, about one.
Speaker 1 (14:29):
Man looking for revenge for being done so better movie
Sandlot or Gladiator. Don't do that. That's Sandlot or Gladier.
Let's just lay it out here. I don't even know
if this is a game day. Let's have some competition here.
I don't know if you can compare those two. That's tough.
One is just it's well, there's totally different genres. But
which is a better movie? And I won't vote because
(14:53):
I haven't seen Ladie won't vote because you know I
haven't seen it.
Speaker 2 (15:01):
I am seventy and Gladiator is a great movie. Okay,
get it together, Greg, I mean he didn't add that.
Speaker 1 (15:06):
I just oh, I can only imagine what some of
the comments are about that. But tell me which is
better Sandlot or Gladiator. I just feel like this is
a tough one.
Speaker 2 (15:16):
I'll say this, whatever you choose, ladies and gentlemen, you
can't be wrong because two are really great films.
Speaker 1 (15:21):
I will say that.
Speaker 2 (15:23):
I don't think you're wrong for saying, oh, I think
the Sandlot's a better film, or oh I think Gladiator.
I think those are two great films, and if you
pick one, I will not shame you. Well, Greg, onto
the hand, you're out of your mind. I watched the Gladiator.
Speaker 1 (15:35):
I can't comment on the Gladiator, so I can only
comment on the Sandlot, which is fantastic. Okay, fair enough,
I think fantastic.
Speaker 2 (15:43):
Well, now that we've blown the text line, because Greg
hasn't seen The Gladiator, which I left him in the
studio to talk to himself for a few seconds, I
was very disappointed.
Speaker 1 (15:52):
In him, as you can. I didn't think you were
coming back. I had to, and I have an obligation
to fulfill coming up when we come back. I want
you to pay attention to the musical interlude that Chris
plays when we come back from the break blew my mind,
and we'll explain that Rieq Willan's out injured. What I
think the Seahawks did last week is not going to
be what they did do tonight. At least they shouldn't.
(16:13):
I'll talk about that. Next ten forty five. We're gonna
get away tickets to the rain City Classic Showcase. Do
you call it? Yes? A rain City Gosh? Now you
got I gotta go back to the email. Just know
you get the Lasers against Clippers tomorrow night at Climate
Pledgerina NBA Exhibition Basketball. Gonna give away two tickets at
ten forty five with a trivia question. It has to
do with the Sonics. Of course they're coming back eleven o'clock.
(16:36):
We're gonna talk to Matt Mayoko, longtime forty nine ers
beat writer, NBC Sports Bay Area is going to talk
to us at eleven o'clock eleven thirty five Factor fifty
and new chance to win one thousand dollars from the
Emerald Queen Casino, the betting capital of Northwest. I'd say
eleven thirty to tell them we're do text line, but
it's already blown up with roasting me that I've never
seen Gladiator. We'll discuss that when we come back. Listen
to the music when we come back next on ninety
(16:56):
three point three KJRFM. You talk about classics. There you go.
That was incredible. My man. Maddy Brown, who's this football analyst,
loves analytics, self describe football nerd. He's been on some
of our football nerd. I love the kid. He knows
ball man. Maddy Brown in London, friend of mine, brought
(17:19):
that to my attention last night. That was of course.
If you don't know Chris, you know you've heard this.
Thank you?
Speaker 2 (17:25):
Yeah, yeah, come on, man, I'm not like you a
Gladiator Bucantinua.
Speaker 1 (17:29):
I hope this reastores my street cred on the text
line Eric ber Rackham. Of course in the nineteen eighties.
I mean that was my childhood. That post football practice,
basketball practice. Rakim was on NPR's Tiny Desk And if
you have not seen the NPR Tiny Desk series, it's
a marvelous acoustic. They put him in a little cubicle
(17:54):
mini concert thing with the office audience. They've had Taylor
Swift on there. I've seen her performance. John Legend, rock
Cam was on there and Maddy Brown brought to my
attention here it is rock Kim on NPR Tiny Desk.
Fantastic to say the least. Anyway, that was a slice
of my childhood. Coming back. You talk about a legend,
(18:15):
they don't do it like he did. They just don't
do it like that anymore.
Speaker 2 (18:19):
Yeah, he's he's a legend, know the legend. One of
my favorites. Doo do Doo Do Do Do Do Doom
Do Doom doom. Yeah, that's he has some hits and
I love that he don't swear. He gets you exactly.
That's what I love. He's able to just spit so
many bars he's not to swear, not knocking people that do.
Speaker 1 (18:36):
But I enjoy him having clever bars and not even
having to swear exactly. And that's just really cool for me.
That was from nineteen eighty seven, and again that was
my high school. That was my junior year of high
school and football and basketball practice. Eric being rock Kim
on the radio or on our tape desks or cassette
tapes became CDs. Yeah, if you if you appreciate that,
(18:57):
maybe I'm off the hook for the Gladiator thing. You're not.
Speaker 2 (19:01):
I don't know if you're off the hook, they probably
just give you a well done Greg Bell.
Speaker 1 (19:04):
Go check the NPR Tiny Series, Tiny Death Series out
and the fact that rak Kim was on it blew
my mind. That was a great, great reminder of the
past four.
Speaker 2 (19:13):
On the telem we're do text, I don't try to
get out of this one. Trying to get out of
it's too late. You plan your flag and it's not
going nowhere. Buddy, It's okay. I hope those of you
who are skewing me for Glad, they're not skewing you.
They're just kind of stunned as I was. No one
has been like Greg, you're a bad humans.
Speaker 1 (19:30):
Well just ignore them. You know they're just upset, which
is fair. But I'm one on the text line set.
Of course your wife about the movie. Didn't see it
after eight thirty because you only do what your wife
tells you to do. Like they know us so well,
twenty eight years happily married, too beautiful.
Speaker 2 (19:44):
You know what's funny is well, I'll take if you
if you put a bit of a bunch of how
can I use this word here? If there's a film
which we joke about with said music, I'll play it
for you guys, a little intro if I got If
there's a movie that has a little music like this,
I think Greg will watch it, if you know what
I'm saying, Ladies and gentlemen. When it comes to violins, though,
Greg says, I'll turn the other eye just a little nugget.
(20:09):
If you get it, you get it. If you don't,
it's okay, keep on moving now. I know we got
some football. I'll talk to you so Greg, there is
a game.
Speaker 1 (20:14):
Tonight, although I'd love to talk about Rock Kim Eric
being Rock Kim some more or Gladiator Riequelling is out tonight.
As I mentioned the ankle issue. He wasn't a walking
bit earlier. Now he's not. So there's a chance he'll
be back in ten days since they had the extended
break before their next game after this one, ten days
from time from tonight against Atlanta and Atlanta. So last
(20:37):
week when Willen got hurt, he actually got hurt twice
in the first half, and then he came back in.
It was both times the lower right leg when he
came back in, then he went out again in the
second half. They brought me Amia Pritchard in the rookie
fifth round pick from Auburn. That didn't go so well.
I mean, there was one play overthrown pass in the
ends on the pitcher. I had good coverage, but he
also gave up a couple. But by then Darius Slayton
(20:59):
Alread had one hundred yards receiving on Trey Brown. So
the assumption might be that they're going to put Pritchett
in there again tonight since Woolan can't play. I don't
think so. I mean, if you do that, you're basically
putting a red siren on this one side of the
field saying throw it here, Kyle Shanahan and he will
send Ayuk and Kittle and Deebo Samuel at Neemiah Pritchet.
(21:20):
If that's what they do, I don't think they're going
to do that. What I think they're gonna do is
bring up Already Burns from the practice squad. What's the
earlieres We'll find out about the practice squad movement, right
because of a midweek game, you can do a day
of the game, so it would be a couple hours,
or an hour and a half would be a couple hours.
The active list comes at ninety minutes, so I'm assuming
(21:41):
and I thought maybe it'd be announce already that they
would bring up Already Burns, the veteran cornerback, because they
have used him the last two seasons at nickel behind
Devin Witherspoon. If you bring Burns up from the practice
squad with Woolen out, now, you can keep Witherspoon outside
at corner opposite of Trey Brown, and that'd be your
starting secondary and go nickel. The other thing to consider
here is the Seahawks have been burned going nickel against
(22:03):
the run, and the forty nine ers are gonna go
run as soon as they see in nickel corner on
the field, and so they may go to three safeties
more tonight than they have in the past. With Kevon
Wallace twenty four in there, Julian Love is gonna play.
They forget the questionable. He's the thing, right Thie, Okay,
and he's gonna play, so Love and Rayshawn Jenkins with
(22:25):
Keevon Wallace as the third safety. I think that's what
they're gonna do to counter Kyle Shanahan running against Nickel.
But when they do go Nickel, I think it's gonna
be already burned if it is Pritchett. Oh, I'm telling you,
they are gonna throw the hell out of routes at
Pritchett's side and make him have to choose, and they'll
send Kittle and Samuel Kittle and Ayu k Ayuk and Samuel.
(22:48):
They'll have to compensate greatly for that. I don't think
that's what they're gonna do, though. The bigger question Chris
to me is stopping the run and if they want
to put extra defensive backs on the field and I
are going to run at him and we mem yeah,
Christian McCaffrey's not there, So what they're still going to
run the ball because of their superiority on the line
of scrimmage and the fact that the last three years
(23:10):
Seahawks have not stopped San Francisco running no matter who
the back has been. So the question then becomes how
much nickel can they afford to go? Will they go
three safety instead against the run? Remember against Detroit, every
time they went nickel early in the game, Detroit ran
the ball. It was almost like an audible at Donna scrimmage.
When they saw Witherspoon inside, they ran, and they completely
(23:32):
changed the complexion of the game. They ran Mike McDonald
out of nickel. At times you had to go back
and put Witherspoon back outside a corner and go into
base because they were running so much. And that's set
up the eighteen for eighteen passing night that Jared Goff had,
so it'd be a chess match tonight between Kyle Shanahan
and Mike McDonald. The most recent history we've seen of
(23:53):
Mike McDonald against Kyle Shanahan is in Seattle's favor. That
was last Christmas night. Baltimore went to Santa Cla. And
just killed them defensively with five turnovers forced four by
Brock Purdy on an eighteen for thirty two night. It
was one of the worst performances of Purdy's career, as
efficient as he has been and has taken care of
the ball as he has been, he threw four interceptions
(24:15):
that night. Thirty three to nineteen I think was the
final score, and that wasn't even that close. The Ravens
beat the forty nine ers on their home field last
year with Mike McDonald's defense. Now having said that, the
Seahawks don't have Baltimore Ravens personnel right now and they
are not at all close to being schematically what those
Ravens were. They don't even have all of the defense
(24:35):
in that they Mike McDonald wants to use. And I
think that they're going to be much better defensively schematically
with more in his arsenal to use the coach's arsenal
at the end of the season than they are now.
But they can't even get four linebackers on the field
at one time. They're starting four linebackers. So look for
Kyle Shanahan to run a lot tonight to force Mike
(24:56):
McDonald into the decision on his extra defensive backs in
the use of them, because Chris, that's the logical thing
to do when your linebackers are banged up is put
an extra defensive back on the field. Yeah, I'm got
to compensate somewhere right, right right, and I'm not sure
they can do that tonight. Boy Mafe and Derek Hall
are both expected to play, though they're questionable. Mike McDonald
said there's confident the Seahawks will have them tonight off
(25:17):
of injury. And then you have Jerome Baker in the
second game back from his hamstring at week side inside
linebacker next to Tyrell Dotson. Hugh mellan and I have
talked quite a bit about the run game and how
the inside linebackers have been at times exposed for strength
running right at him. Well, here comes Kyle you stick
in the forty nine ers running game right at him tonight.
(25:40):
Coming up next on our Seahawks roundtable this morning, Hugh
mellen broke down why Brock Purty is all that he's
the highest rated quarterback ever through twenty five starts of
a career, ahead of Tom Brady, ahead of Patrick Mahomes.
Hugh mellon explains that next eleven o'clock, Matt Mayokho is
going to talk the forty nine ers side. A long
time forty nine beat rider, going to talk the forty
nine ers side of tonight's matchup. He's in Seattle for

night's rain City Showcase seven thirty Pamic Climb Pledgerina, Blazers
and Clippers. Question is who was the Sonics leading rebounder
(27:10):
in their final season before the Carpetbagers took him to
Oklahoma City. The hint is he was a man of
the people, man of the city. He lived in Queen Anne,
walked to his Sonics home games. One of my favorite
athletes I've covered in my time in Seattle. Who was
a Sonics leading rebound to their final season in two
thousand and seven two thousand and eight season before the
Oklahoma Carmet Backers took him away. First person to text
(27:34):
four nine four to five one to tell him we'll
do text line. The correct answer will win two tickets
Tomorrow's rain City Showcase seven thirty Climate Pledgerina and Blazers
against the Clippers. Of course, that's a precursor to the
Sonics coming back playing at Climate Pledgerreina here in a
couple of years with NBA expansion. So good luck on that, Chris,
I'll fetch you the winner here as we talk about.
(27:55):
Hugh Millon on the Seahawks round table with me this
morning with Chuck and Buck talked about Brock Purdy and
what makes him so good and he had a mountain
of statistics to support it. But brock Purty, according to
Hugh Millen, is the real deal.
Speaker 3 (28:07):
Why is Brock Purdy the forty Niner quarterbacks? Shanahan has
If you listen to his interviews, he said, he's emphatic.
I do not want a game manager. I want an
aggressive quarterback. I want a guy who can make throws
down the field. You just say ten plus air yards.
Rock Purdy is number one in the NFL nineer and
thirty one when the ball travels ten hid yards are more.
(28:29):
He's number one in attempts. He's number one in yards
and by the way his attempts, he's got seventy. Gino
we're talking about leading the league and how great Geno's doing.
Gino has forty five, so Geno's rank seventeenth. Then I said,
wait a minute, I gotta filter this over the middle
of the field because I know, despite his short stature,
he's six ' one And we said, Russell Wilson can't
(28:49):
throw over the middle. Let me filter this between the numbers.
Brock Purty number two in attempts, number one in yards,
number one in passer rating. This is ten more yards
down the field. Between the numbers. Brock Perty's rating is
one hundred and twenty nine. Geno's rating in the same
filter is eighteenth fifteen yards or more down the field.
(29:10):
Brock Purty number one in attempts, number one in yards.
This guy pushes the ball down the field.
Speaker 1 (29:18):
Huge point, man, It's not just dink and duck in screens,
he said. His statistics that he analyzed about screen passes
in the NFL this season, the forty nine Ers are
actually twenty eighth in the league in screen pass usage
right now. The Chiefs are number one, and the forty
nine Ers are also in the bottom quarter of the
league in yards after catch. You know the number two
(29:39):
team in yards after catches right now in the NFL, Niners,
Seahawks short passes gains after the catch. Seahawks are number
two in yards after the catch you melon explain, and
the forty nine Ers are in the bottom fourth of
the league. I think it was twenty fourth in the
league in yards after catch, which you don't think about
when you think you can. Samuel So his point is
(30:00):
not only is brock Purdy's numbers and winning and all
of that passer rating, He pushes the ball down the
field deep throws of fifteen plus yards as well as
anybody in the league. He has a better passer rating
through his first twenty five games than any quarterback in
NFL history, any better than Patrick Mahomes, better than Tom Brady.
(30:22):
Hugh ma Millan is absolutely sold on rock Purdy. He
thinks he to the key defensively for the Seahawks tonight
after slowing down the run game is to get pressure
on rock Purty so that he doesn't have time to
throw those deep passes fifteen plus yards down the field.
That's easier said than done against San Francisco's offensive line
and misdirections and motions that use before the snap, But
(30:43):
that's the golden knight for Seattle in the pass defense game.
With Riek Woola nut in there, can they get pressure
with Derek Hall, with boy Mafy, with some blitzeres, They'll
blitz Witherspoon too. Can they get to brock Purdy before
he gets to pump the ball down the field. As
Hugh Millen outlined, they do quite a bit range City
Showcase tomorrow night. We got a winner for our two tickets,
(31:06):
Blazers against the Clippers at Climate Pledgerina seven thirty. Who
we got, Chris. I'll give him a call doing the
break and I'll let you know when we get back
from commercial. I think he's from the three to six. Oh.
If I'm not mistaken, that is correct.
Speaker 2 (31:16):
So I hope you're listening three six so, because if not,
I am going to If you do not pick up
this phone, I am moving on to the next Can
I announce.
Speaker 1 (31:24):
With the correct answers? I guess he can, because the
question was who was the Sonics rebounding leader in the
two thousand and seven two thousand and eight season, the
final one before the Oklahoma Carpetbaggers took him away? Nick Collison,
product of the University of Kansas, Kansas University, and then
came out here and became mister Seattle. He lived on
Queen Anne. I talked to him often about this. He
(31:45):
walked down the hill from Queen Anne, the top of
Queen Ann where he lived on the side of the
hill over downtown. Because is an NBA suit player that
made millions, and he walked down the hill to the
Sonics home games at Ky Arena. He loved Seattle, that guy.
I talked to him about this a couple of times.
That guy, more than anybody, was broken up about moving
to Oklahoma, and he went to college in Kansas and
(32:07):
he didn't want no part of even Seattle. Nick Collison
one of my favorite Sonics, one of my favorite players
I've covered in all my sports writing career, Bay Area
and Seattle. Nick Collison's the answer to the question that
got one winner from the three zero six two tickets
to Tomorrow Night's rain City showcased the Blazers against the
Clippers at Climate Pledger in an NBA exhibition basketball precursor
(32:29):
to those Sonics coming back here, probably for the twenty
twenty seven to twenty eight NBA season, maybe the twenty
six to twenty seven season, depending on when they decide.
The NBA announces their expansion teams, likely again to be
everyone in the league, saying likely to be Seattle in
Las Vegas, the Commission himself saying those are very intriguing
cities to the league coming up. My man Matt Mayoko,
(32:49):
friend of mine for thirty years covered NFL together in
the Bay Area. He's a forty nine Ers beat writer
for that long NBC Sports Bay Area. Right now, he's
in Seattle tonight for forty nine Ers Seahawks. Matt may
