to rest him for two games? Could they afford to,

weeks off and miss two games and then come back
for November thirteenth at San Francisco, which is the game
after the bye week. I'm not saying that's where they're
headed for Metcalf, but that's got to be part of
their thinking. If they think he's going to miss one week,
he may miss two games to take advantage of the
buy and get three full weeks of rest. On that
MCL but as McDonald said, we all know DK Metcalf

and he's only missed one game in his six years career.

that next step and showcase off his skills set on

year on the offensive end. I think he's just gonna

Warner Brothers Discovery, who owns TNT, is trying to retain
the rights they lost in the new media rights deals
went to Amazon Instead. Warner Brothers Discovery sued the NBA
and said, wait a minute, we match that offer, and
you ignored it. They think that the NBA is railroading
this new deal to Amazon and so Warner Brothers Discovery

is held up the agreement from being ratified because of
a lawsuit that, on top of the fact that the
owners want to get some owners don't want to get
the pie of a new media rights deal split thirty
two ways with two expansion teams announced. They'd rather keep
it with thirty teams, if that makes sense. So they

want a bigger share of the media rights pie before
they end up dividing up into thirty two different ways
by adding two expansion teams. So that has stalled the
expansion talk. It's not going to It's not that it's
not going to happen. There's now another process with this
Warner Brothers Discovery lawsuit that has delayed the NBA and
its border governors. Moving on to the issue of expansion.

Seattle and Las Vegas remain from everybody inside the league.
Seattle and Las Vegas remain the favorites to be the
two expansion cities into the new Western Conference, and that
will probably begin twenty twenty seven twenty eight season, maybe

whole thing of when the media rights deals finally are done,
so they know how much money they have coming in

Seahawks offensive line, well, it wouldn't be a day a
sun has come up if we didn't talk about the
Seahawks offensive line. It wasn't great in Atlanta. It was
good enough, and the Falcons have the worst pass rush
in the league and that helped. But Gino Smith really
made them look better than they probably were. Smith again
faced pressure on quite a few of his twenty eight
dropbacks the two touchdown passes, Smith definitely avoided a rusher

at the beginning of the play, stepped up in the
pocket calmly through touchdown passes. He's gotten very good at that.
We talked to Hugh Millen and he's mentioned a couple
times how the pocket movement and poison the pocket is
perhaps his greatest trade, and he was Millen to mine.

And I've told you my background with the University of Finley.

a great set to down interview with him after the
game in the locker room in Atlanta on Sunday. He
to me earned another start, but there's a lot more
to it than that. Yesterday Mike McDonald gave what it
measured and incremental as it was the most positive words

yet about Abe Lucas since January. Here's what he said
about Abe Lucas. Here's what he said about George fat
and here's what he said when he was asked whether
Mike Durell has earned a second start at right tackle
this weekend against the Bills.

I mean, it's more time to let you know on that.

There is a situation where he could come back and
start practicing this week, but we haven't finalized that yet,
but it's looking good on the front with Abe.

When he does come back, you know we're not.

Gonna there is a there is a process to get
him ready to play. So even even if he did
start to practice, I think you're looking at a good
chunk at a time of practice time to get him
ready to go play a game.
Speaker 1 (17:52):
So what's that process. Well, he's on lucas on the
Physically Enable to Perform list, has been since started the
regular season. You have to miss a minimum four games.
He's missed six. He could come back at any time.
But when he comes back, there's a twenty one day
practice window that pup players go into. You don't have
to be on it all for twenty one days, but
that's the maximum number days you can be on it
until you either have to one be added to the
(18:13):
active roster or two put on injured reserve for the
rest of the year, or three released as a wave
injured guy. But so that's the window they're playing with. Now,
what's twenty one days from Wednesday. Well, it happens to
be past the bye week, and it would be the
Wednesday practice before the at San Francisco game in the
middle of November. So it would make sense that if
(18:36):
he can come back to practice in some form this week,
and they do designate him as return to practice off pup,
the twenty one day clock beginning tomorrow would get him
to the bye week, when they would then make the
decision on whether he's ready to play or not. So
that gives them two more games at least without him,
even if he returns to practice this week. That seems
to be what McDonald's inferring. There, so no Lucas for
(18:58):
in the next two games more at least. So what's
that mean, Well, George Fance on injured reserve. Remember he
lasted only thirteen plays of the opener and then he
injured his knee and he hasn't played since. This is
what Mike McDonald said about him.

George not sure right now, not sure about this week
right now.

He's been really shifty on fan every time we ask him.
Yesterday he was the most definitive you can call it
that on Lucas. But he's still shifty on fan Forsyth.
He says Stone forsythe with the hand issue that cost
him to miss the game and allowed Mike Girell to
have his debut in Atlanta. Well, he still sounds like
he's in the same boat as Fant, Maybe not this week,

so that leaves Darrell unless Fant comes back from injured reserve.
This is what McDonald said when asked if Jarrell has
earned himself a second start Sunday against Buffalo.

Well, God, played really hard and there's a couple of
plays where he just he lost the reps and that's
going to happen. But guy fought and played really hard
and technique and there's always there's always things, you know,
the first rep. But like the game wasn't too big
for him. I'm just I'm just really pleased with his effort, frankly,
and he's finish on a per play basis, and I
(20:12):
think he's earned the opportunity to, you know, if it
shakes out right tackle, We've got some moving parts going
on there right now. But if he you know, if
he was the guy again this week, you know, we'd
be be really confident in him.
Speaker 1 (20:25):
Sorry detailed what those moving parts were. If Fans able
to come ock off of injured reserve. Then we get
into discussion Chris and I had yesterday, does George Fan
deserve to be the starting right tackle right off of
injured reserve this week or does Mike Girell deserve to start?
I said, I think Girell deserves to start even if
Fan does come back. But that seems to be what
the Seahawks are waiting on to see if Fan's going
(20:46):
to come back. So I pressed McDonald on that, see
if I can find the quote that he had on that.
So I pressed him on it and said, well, has
by his play has he what are these moving parts?
And he said said, well, we're working through that right now.
Michael Durell obviously if he had to go, we'd be
excited about him working through George Fance situation. Same thing
(21:07):
with Stone and then with Abe whether or not we
bring him back on Wednesday or not bring him back
to practice that is, to start the twenty one day clock.
He won't be ready to play this week. Meeting Lucas.
So I think it's really Stone, Forsyth, George and Michael
the candidates to start at right tackle this week against
the Buffalo bills five and two, the leaders of the
AFC East, and then his right guard, because Christian Haines
(21:32):
came in in Atlanta and at first drive he was in,
he was the guy who teamed with Mike Durrell and
opened that freeway sized hole for Kenneth Walker to run
through for a twenty yard touchdown early in the second quarter.
It gave the Seahawks a ten nothing lead, and so
I asked him, are they going to continue to alternate
because as good as I, as well as I thought,

Hayes played at right guard, he only played nineteen percent
of the snaps, starting played eighty one percent. Excuse me,
that's yeah. I'm not mistaken. That was a breakdown for
the I might even be a breakdown for the season.
I mean, I got off a plane at midnight last night.

He mentioned yesterday that Connor Williams at center is now
really starting to come into a more solidifying role. He's
starting to learn the entire offensive line. He's getting confident
in his need that was repaired in December, and he
thinks Connor Williams has really made a jump here in
the last couple of weeks. I talked to Williams last week.
Remember we played it here on the show, and Williams
wasn't at all happy with his play up to that point.

No one's been talking about Lake and Thomas in the
last couple of weeks, and Charles Cross I noticed a
couple of times did get pushed into Geno Smith. Smith
Cris is just I think he's been a wizard at
completing the passes for the yards and touchdowns he's had
with the production he hasn't.

Yeh Procket presence. I think that's exactly what Hugh was
referencing as to how well he's played this season, he's like,
outside of the throwing, outside of all everything else that
Geno's doing well, it's his procket presence. And he gave
Geno an a plus because he is having to deal
with some of the issues you just went through. Charles Cross,
You're supposed to be your number one left tackle sometimes

is finding himself being shoved and pushed back into the pocket,
and Geno's having to maneuver and find different angles to
throw the football and he's doing that. And then also
I write tackle there has just been issues there. You
had your third string guy in there, he gets banged up.

We started talking about the offensive line and what Ryan
Grubb wanted to do with the offense back in early

that they've had. It just hasn't been a good start
for this offensive line. But you get Abe Lucas back,

maybe that really changes the whole dynamic of this offensive line.
But it can't just be a one man thing, you're
it has to be a team and a unit that
plays good football throughout the game, and they just haven't

a lawsuit that, on top of the fact that the
owners want to get some owners don't want to get
the pie of a new media rights deal split thirty
two ways with two expansion teams announced. They'd rather keep
it with thirty teams, if that makes sense. So they
(12:57):
want a bigger share of the media rights pie before
they end up dividing up into thirty two different ways
by adding two expansion teams. So that has stalled the
expansion talk. It's not going to It's not that it's
not going to happen. There's now another process with this
Warner Brothers Discovery lawsuit that has delayed the NBA and
its border governors. Moving on to the issue of expansion.

Seattle and Las Vegas remain from everybody inside the league.
Seattle and Las Vegas remain the favorites to be the
two expansion cities into the new Western Conference, and that
will probably begin twenty twenty seven twenty eight season, maybe

whole thing of when the media rights deals finally are done,

Seahawks offensive line, well, it wouldn't be a day a
sun has come up if we didn't talk about the
Seahawks offensive line. It wasn't great in Atlanta. It was
good enough, and the Falcons have the worst pass rush
in the league and that helped. But Gino Smith really
made them look better than they probably were. Smith again
faced pressure on quite a few of his twenty eight
dropbacks the two touchdown passes, Smith definitely avoided a rusher
(16:36):
at the beginning of the play, stepped up in the
pocket calmly through touchdown passes. He's gotten very good at that.
We talked to Hugh Millen and he's mentioned a couple
times how the pocket movement and poison the pocket is
perhaps his greatest trade, and he was Millen to mine.
Mike Direll's become my favorite story on the Seahawks now.
And I've told you my background with the University of Finley.
(16:57):
He from the Division two University of Finley. I had
a great set to down interview with him after the
game in the locker room in Atlanta on Sunday. He
to me earned another start, but there's a lot more
to it than that. Yesterday Mike McDonald gave what it
measured and incremental as it was the most positive words

yet about Abe Lucas since January. Here's what he said
about Abe Lucas. Here's what he said about George fat
and here's what he said when he was asked whether
Mike Durell has earned a second start at right tackle
this weekend against the Bills.

I mean, it's more time to let you know on that.
Speaker 6 (17:30):
There is a situation where he could come back and
start practicing this week, but we haven't finalized that yet,
but it's looking good on the front with Abe.
Speaker 5 (17:39):
When he does come back, you know we're not.
Speaker 6 (17:41):
Gonna there is a there is a process to get
him ready to play. So even even if he did
start to practice, I think you're looking at a good
chunk at a time of practice time to get him
ready to go play a game.
Speaker 1 (17:52):
So what's that process. Well, he's on lucas on the
Physically Enable to Perform list, has been since started the
regular season. You have to miss a minimum four games.
He's missed six. He could come back at any time.
But when he comes back, there's a twenty one day
practice window that pup players go into. You don't have
to be on it all for twenty one days, but
that's the maximum number days you can be on it
until you either have to one be added to the
(18:13):
active roster or two put on injured reserve for the
rest of the year, or three released as a wave
injured guy. But so that's the window they're playing with. Now,
what's twenty one days from Wednesday. Well, it happens to
be past the bye week, and it would be the
Wednesday practice before the at San Francisco game in the
middle of November. So it would make sense that if
(18:36):
he can come back to practice in some form this week,
and they do designate him as return to practice off pup,
the twenty one day clock beginning tomorrow would get him
to the bye week, when they would then make the
decision on whether he's ready to play or not. So
that gives them two more games at least without him,
even if he returns to practice this week. That seems
to be what McDonald's inferring. There, so no Lucas for
(18:58):
in the next two games more at least. So what's
that mean, Well, George Fance on injured reserve. Remember he
lasted only thirteen plays of the opener and then he
injured his knee and he hasn't played since. This is
what Mike McDonald said about him.
Speaker 6 (19:11):
George not sure right now, not sure about this week
right now.
Speaker 1 (19:16):
He's been really shifty on fan every time we ask him.
Yesterday he was the most definitive you can call it
that on Lucas. But he's still shifty on fan Forsyth.
He says Stone forsythe with the hand issue that cost
him to miss the game and allowed Mike Girell to
have his debut in Atlanta. Well, he still sounds like
he's in the same boat as Fant, Maybe not this week,
(19:39):
so that leaves Darrell unless Fant comes back from injured reserve.
This is what McDonald said when asked if Jarrell has
earned himself a second start Sunday against Buffalo.
Speaker 6 (19:49):
Well, God, played really hard and there's a couple of
plays where he just he lost the reps and that's
going to happen. But guy fought and played really hard
and technique and there's always there's always things, you know,
the first rep. But like the game wasn't too big
for him. I'm just I'm just really pleased with his effort, frankly,
and he's finish on a per play basis, and I
(20:12):
think he's earned the opportunity to, you know, if it
shakes out right tackle, We've got some moving parts going
on there right now. But if he you know, if
he was the guy again this week, you know, we'd
be be really confident in him.
Speaker 1 (20:25):
Sorry detailed what those moving parts were. If Fans able
to come ock off of injured reserve. Then we get
into discussion Chris and I had yesterday, does George Fan
deserve to be the starting right tackle right off of
injured reserve this week or does Mike Girell deserve to start?
I said, I think Girell deserves to start even if
Fan does come back. But that seems to be what
the Seahawks are waiting on to see if Fan's going
(20:46):
to come back. So I pressed McDonald on that, see
if I can find the quote that he had on that.
So I pressed him on it and said, well, has
by his play has he what are these moving parts?
And he said said, well, we're working through that right now.
Michael Durell obviously if he had to go, we'd be
excited about him working through George Fance situation. Same thing
(21:07):
with Stone and then with Abe whether or not we
bring him back on Wednesday or not bring him back
to practice that is, to start the twenty one day clock.
He won't be ready to play this week. Meeting Lucas.
So I think it's really Stone, Forsyth, George and Michael
the candidates to start at right tackle this week against
the Buffalo bills five and two, the leaders of the
AFC East, and then his right guard, because Christian Haines
(21:32):
came in in Atlanta and at first drive he was in,
he was the guy who teamed with Mike Durrell and
opened that freeway sized hole for Kenneth Walker to run
through for a twenty yard touchdown early in the second quarter.
It gave the Seahawks a ten nothing lead, and so
I asked him, are they going to continue to alternate
because as good as I, as well as I thought,
(21:56):
Hayes played at right guard, he only played nineteen percent
of the snaps, starting played eighty one percent. Excuse me,
that's yeah. I'm not mistaken. That was a breakdown for
the I might even be a breakdown for the season.
I mean, I got off a plane at midnight last night.
I think it's a for the season. I wrote the
story for the News Tribune Newstribute dot Com. For the season,
Bradford has played eighty one percent of the snaps, Hayes
(22:17):
has played nineteen and Says said they're going to continue
the rotation, and McDonald said, I thought both guys took
a step in their game against Atlanta. I think that
competition right now is what's best for both of them
and probably what's best for the team. I'd imagine the
rotation still continuing at this point, so you've got the
whole right side of the line still up in the air.
(22:40):
He mentioned yesterday that Connor Williams at center is now
really starting to come into a more solidifying role. He's
starting to learn the entire offensive line. He's getting confident
in his need that was repaired in December, and he
thinks Connor Williams has really made a jump here in
the last couple of weeks. I talked to Williams last week.
Remember we played it here on the show, and Williams
wasn't at all happy with his play up to that point.
(23:03):
No one's been talking about Lake and Thomas in the
last couple of weeks, and Charles Cross I noticed a
couple of times did get pushed into Geno Smith. Smith
Cris is just I think he's been a wizard at
completing the passes for the yards and touchdowns he's had
with the production he hasn't.
Speaker 3 (23:20):
Yeh Procket presence. I think that's exactly what Hugh was
referencing as to how well he's played this season, he's like,
outside of the throwing, outside of all everything else that
Geno's doing well, it's his procket presence. And he gave
Geno an a plus because he is having to deal
with some of the issues you just went through. Charles Cross,
You're supposed to be your number one left tackle sometimes
(23:43):
is finding himself being shoved and pushed back into the pocket,
and Geno's having to maneuver and find different angles to
throw the football and he's doing that. And then also
I write tackle there has just been issues there. You
had your third string guy in there, he gets banged up.
Now you go to your fourth string. He plays, okay.
Mike McDonald says, yeah, there's a possibility he could start,
(24:04):
George Fan could come off. Ir the whole thing there.
Right guard, it's going into week eight. That still is
not a for sure spot where you have a guy
that's going to play the remainder of the season. And
then left guard there's really no backup there. You just
gonna have to deal with it. And then the center position.
Connor Williams is coming off that eight cl injury. He's
still not up to quote unquote his best performance, his
(24:27):
best games yet he is still looking to find that.
And it's just an offensive line that has had issues
throughout the entire season. And yet the Seahawks are where
they are at four and three, with a chance to
go to five and three if they can beat Buffalo.
Speaker 2 (24:40):
So this team is in the mix. But I'm telling you, when.
Speaker 3 (24:46):
We started talking about the offensive line and what Ryan
Grubb wanted to do with the offense back in early
whatever it was when we first started the show, the
offensive line was going to tell it all. And again,
I know I was wrong. I thought the offensive line
would be better. I didn't foresee some of the issues
that they've had. It just hasn't been a good start
for this offensive line. But you get Abe Lucas back,
(25:07):
maybe that really changes the whole dynamic of this offensive line.
But it can't just be a one man thing, you're
it has to be a team and a unit that
plays good football throughout the game, and they just haven't
had that consistency at all.
Speaker 1 (25:19):
I haven't figured out McDonald. Yeah, you know, we used
to know when Pete Carroll said, well he tried hard,
but that meant that he just was terrible. I haven't
figured out McDonald. Because McDonald really values the effort. And
when he said that about Mike Girell, I couldn't tell
if it was euphemism that he didn't play well. He
mentioned the very first snap versu rep of the game.
(25:39):
He thought it was maybe his worst one. You know
what Jerrell told me after the game on Sunday, I'll
never be worse than I am right now. I thought,
there's a really good quote. He said, this was my
first NFL game on the road. I've never done this before.
I was playing against Walsh University in North Campon, Ohio
this time last year. That's where he was doing. He
(26:00):
played in from a fifteen hundred be was playing in
front of seventy thousand on Sunday. He said, I'll never
be worse than I was today, And that means to
him he's only going up. His growth is learning. He's
going to have already learned from the game film he
just watched in the last thirty six hours. I thought
that was a really interesting point of self awareness of him,
knowing that he didn't play at all what he's gonna
end up being as an NFL player fourtnite four to
(26:22):
five on and tell him or do text line. Who
would you like to start at right tackle for the Seahawks?
Greg Dell, Yeah, good luck with that. You think there's
a revolving door at the edge right now, George Fan,
if he comes back, would you start him at right tackle?
Off injured reserve this week? If he doesn't come back,
it's a fader complete. It'll be Mike Darrell unless stone
forsythe can come back somehow. Even if stone Forsyth is healthy,
(26:45):
who do you start at right tackle? Forsyth or Durell?
I think that's a layup. Anyway, If Fan comes back,
who do you start at right tackle? Durell? Stone forsythe
fotnite four to five one and tell him we do

the Athletic, the Rams of Indie catered a willingness to
take some of his twenty fourth salary, it's this season's
remaining salary, and are seeking a second round pick for
Cooper Cup. It always fascinates me that these receivers Vante Adams,

Amari Cooper, guys that are at the top of the
league at one time, only have commanded third round conditional picks.
Cooper Cup would be worth a second round pick when healthy.
Absolutely Rams, you would think, right, yeah, Rams are two
and four. They place Thursday night at home against Minnesota.

come back, they're still the best team.

I will say that. And the two years ago when
the Niners didn't make the playoffs, the same thing. It

They lost all their players, and you could argue that
they didn't win. It was three years ago, and then
two years ago they didn't go to the Super Bowl
because they lost all their quarterbacks in the Nfcicitle game. Yesterday,
we were talking to Mike McDonald about his run defense,

and he was and the big plays that the defense
finally came up with three turnovers in the second half
in Atlanta, three times as many as they had in
the previous five games. They might have one turn overproduced
in the previous five games, none since the one, only
one since the opener, and then they have three and
one half against Atlanta. And of course the big one
was boy mafy stripsack of cousins returned for a touchdown
by Derek Hall, thirty six yard touchdown that changed the game.
(31:15):
Two score game and the Seahawks are off and running
the rest of the second half. So we asked them
about boy Mafe and Derek Hall. Here's what Mike McDonald.

Said, Well, I think both players could be all pro
type football players.
Speaker 5 (31:27):
The sky's limit for both.

It's about the process with those guys, when they've put
the work in which they have and had the offseasons
that they've had, and the focus on a day to
day basis and continually finding things that they can they
can attack.

In their game.

You can kind of go through each guy and tell
them those things. But they've they want to learn, they
want to be great.
Speaker 5 (31:46):
They work their tails off.
Speaker 6 (31:47):
And then on game day they just they play really
freaking hard and they run to the ball and the
rest of the stuff, you know, is our job as
coaches to get fixed.
Speaker 5 (31:54):
But those skys a limit with those two guys.
Speaker 1 (31:58):
That's the first time in how many months have I
been covering it out, seven eight months, i've heard him
use the word all pro on any player.
Speaker 2 (32:04):
But what does that say about you Chennan Wolfson's future.
Speaker 3 (32:07):
Not saying that he's discrediting anything that he's done, but.
Speaker 1 (32:13):
Well, think of it. He is barely coached in Chennon
wolfsu No.
Speaker 3 (32:16):
That's fair, and he hasn't played. He's not hurt, so
you know that. In my head, I'm thinking, so does
this mean I think as Moore just out of sight,
out of mind, just in the moment.
Speaker 1 (32:25):
Yeah, And he's coaching boy Mafey and Derek Hall every day.
Derek Hall is his project. Remember Derek Hall barely played
last year twenty eight percent of defensive played. Greg I guess, okay, yeah,
Pete Carroll and Clint Hurt didn't play him. And so
at the in training kit you could remember we talked
about this in the summer. I was watching every day.
(32:47):
I was like, man, they're giving Derek Hall some run here.
And it was when Wosa was still out and it
was apparent that Mike McDonald was going to feature Derek Hall.
And he kept saying two hundred and sixty pounds that
a guy can run like this, This Derek Hall can
be something for my defense. He is like, if there
is one pet project that is he is all Mike McDonald,
(33:08):
it's Derek Hall right now. Because Carol and his staff
didn't use it at all. Four tell him we do
text line your reaction to that the words all pro
and potential all pro for boy, Mafe and Derek Hall.
Big edge play. The edge rushers are the most important players,
or let me say this, they are the generators of
(33:28):
Mike McDonald's defense. He asked them to do the most.
He wants them to make the biggest plays. He sets
up their schemes and hides them and disguises them and
sends them on blitzes and puts them in coverage, and
there they are the guys. And if he has studs
out there, then his defense is on its way to
what it wants to be. Eleven o'clock. Jorry Epstein's coming

ask her about the Cooper Cup. The athletic report that
the Rams are shopping Cooper Cup in the trade. If
he's healthy, he's still one of the best, the biggest,
if he's healthy, and that could be why the Rams
are looking to get something for someone that they haven't
had on the field quite a bit. Eleven thirty year
