five Channel thirteen locally, coach Mike McDonald said that Rieq
willand coming back to practice is a good sign toward
him possibly playing against the Bills. Abe Lucas coming back
to practice, the coach said that means he's still three
weeks away, most likely from playing.

Speaker 2 (01:12):
He came off to physically and able to perform.

Speaker 1 (01:14):
List he as a twenty one day window the starting
right tackle does at which time up until twenty one.

Speaker 2 (01:18):
Days, he can practice roster exempt.

Speaker 1 (01:21):
At twenty one days, they have to decide whether to
play him, to put him on the active roster, or
to put him on injury reserve for the rest of
the season. Mike McDonald said they're targeting this November seventeen games.
Seattle has at San Francisco app coming out of their
buy for the season debut for starting right tackle Abe
Lucas coming off that winter knee surgery. Seahawks also claimed
off waivers linebacker Josh Ross from Baltimore. Third year veteran

(01:44):
has yet to take a defensive snap in the NFL,
all on special team so far. Ross played for McDonald
when McDonald was the Michigan defensive coordinator in twenty twenty one,
and of course for the Ravens when McDonald was the
defensive coordinator for Baltimore in twenty two and twenty three.
DK Metcalf did not practice, needed to Trey Brown. Metcalf
has his sprained MCL on his knee. He's only this

point three KJRFM. And why are the Indiana Hoosiers at
the top of the Big Ten thirteenth in the country
the surprise in college football. Zach Ausserman is with us
from The Indianapolis Star. The Indiana beat writer for the
Indie Star, joined us on the Beacon Plumbing Hotline to

(03:50):
tell us what's going on here.

Speaker 2 (03:52):
Zach, thanks for joining us.

Speaker 3 (03:53):
Hello, Hey, thanks for having me.

Speaker 1 (03:56):
Okay, so, I'm sure you've been asked this by even
friends of your is how the heck is Indiana football
thirteenth in the country, top of the Big Ten, undefeated
going into the game against Washington on Saturday.

Speaker 2 (04:07):
What are the reasons here?

Speaker 4 (04:10):
Yeah? I don't you know, in a vacuum if you
if you told me that Indiana could win any of
its first seven games this season, I probably would believe you.
I don't think, you know, especially just the way the
schedule shaped up. I don't think it was, you know,
just sort.

Speaker 2 (04:25):
Of unheard of.

Speaker 4 (04:26):
I think it's more than the way Indiana has been
doing it. You know, they're outscoring teams something like one
hundred and seventy four to seventeen in the first and
fourth quarters. They haven't trailed for a snap yet this season.
You know, they've they have consistently for about the last
five six weeks led the country in red zone trips, scores,

(04:46):
and touchdowns all three. You know, they are one of
the most disruptive defenses in the Big Ten. It's been
the nature of the way Indiana is winning these games.
I think that is is kind of turning heads and
it's kind of you know, it's if Indiana would squeeze
and buy some of these games and they were still
seven and oh, you say, that's really good from Indiana.
That's the prestorton Kurt Signetti. You know, will they lose

(05:08):
one of these close games at some point? Right now,
we're just asking what does Indiana look like when their
scoreboard pressure, because, to be quite frank, they just haven't
faced any and I think that had been that's been
the thing that maybe.

Speaker 3 (05:21):
Has been a little bit more.

Speaker 4 (05:23):
I guess what has made that resonate a little bit
differently for Indiana is just the nature of the seven
and zero start, not just the wins themselves, but the
way that Indiana's going about it.

Speaker 1 (05:34):
This is Zach Austaman of the Indianapolis started the Indiana
Who's Yours Football Beat writer, joining us in ninety three
point three KGM to underscore in point they've beaten FIU
thirty one seven. Indiana's beaten Western ill And only seventy
seven to three. They went out to the Rose Bowl
and beat UCLA forty two to thirteen. They beat Charlotte
fifty two to fourteen. They beat Indian, they beat Maryland
in Bloomington forty two to twenty eight. They beat Northwestern

(05:56):
forty one twenty four, and then they smashed Nebraska on
national television and Wilmington fifty six to seven.

Speaker 5 (06:02):
How is a team planning to adjust their offensive strategy
now that Curtis will miss some time.

Speaker 2 (06:08):
Curtis Rourke starting quarterback.

Speaker 4 (06:10):
Yep, yeah, I don't think. I don't think it will
change a ton. I think some of that may be
determined by how well Indiana can run the ball.

Speaker 3 (06:18):
Obviously, Washington has struggled a.

Speaker 4 (06:21):
Little bit here against the run the last couple of
three games, and in Indiana actually, after a little bit
or aggression of its own running the football in Big
Ten play, had probably his best team rushing performance of
the season adjusted to the competition against Nebraska. So I think,
if you know, if there's anything that might change, Indiana
might try to run the ball a little bit more
in this game. See if you can establish the run

(06:42):
and kind of stay on stay on schedule that way.
But you know, to be honest, Avin Jackson, I don't
think is he's not a dramatically different quarterback than Curtis work.
He's probably not quite as good. He's certainly not his
experienced obviously, but you see what he's been able to.

Speaker 3 (07:00):
Do with spots.

Speaker 4 (07:01):
He had a good game against Louisville last year. He
was good in the second half, albeit playing with the
lead last week against Nebraska. He's been with the staff
since they got here in you know, December and kind
of dug it in January. I'm sure there will be
some things that either they you know, tweaked to his
preference or maybe a few things they tried to simplify
a little bit for him. Again, I wouldn't be surprised if,

(07:22):
no matter who the quarterback was, Indiana tried to see
if he could establish.

Speaker 2 (07:25):
The run a little bit more in this game.

Speaker 3 (07:28):
But I don't think the offense is going.

Speaker 4 (07:30):
To change, you know, dramatically in terms of sort of
pre snap motions and formations and then what what kinds
of frow it is trying to get when it goes
to the Tapkin.

Speaker 1 (07:40):
We're talking Washington Husky's opponent Saturday, Indiana Hoosiers, Zach Austman,
the Indianapolis sarry on the Peacon Plumbing hotline of ninety
three point three KJRFM.

Speaker 2 (07:48):
You're talking about Curtis Rourke. He had thumb surgery. Thumb
surgery was that this.

Speaker 1 (07:53):
Week and there was some surgery yet, and he was
from Ohio University. He's a seventy four point six percent
passer with nineteen hundred and forty one yards, fifteen touchdowns
and three interceptions so far this season with a quarterback
rating NCAA quarterback rating a one to eighty eight point seven.
That's who the Huskies are missing by him being injured.

(08:13):
He's a transfer from OHIOU. Coach Signetti went heavy in
the transfer portal. Can you describe that process and how
successful he's been. What are some of the key additions
they had in the transfer portal that's made this seven
and zero start go.

Speaker 4 (08:28):
Rourkin's probably the highest profile one, I think kind of
sidecard to the thirteen transfers he brought over from James Madison.
There have been some real standout performers there, but I
think there's been also just kind of the the impact
of him bringing so many guys who were with him
at JMU who had success with him, were all co
level players, you know, even a couple of freshman all

(08:49):
American type players in there, and bringing in you know,
not just guys that knew the scheme, but guys that
could also kind of vouch for the process and the
staff and the message and you know, sort of say, hey, listen,
if you if you kind of tune into what these
guys are selling, we're telling you, success will follow. And
obviously it has.

Speaker 3 (09:08):
I think that the.

Speaker 4 (09:09):
Big ones from a sort of production standpoint, certainly the
I mean, the entire running back.

Speaker 3 (09:15):
Rotation has been remade. All four guys are transfers.

Speaker 4 (09:18):
Indiana kind of goes to the top two of Tyson
Lawton and Justice Ellison, but it'll mix Kaylon Black and
there and sometimes even Elijah Green. Elijah Surrat, who's Indiana's
number one receiver, came over from JMU.

Speaker 3 (09:29):
He had a thousand yard.

Speaker 4 (09:30):
Season last year and he's he's not on pace, he's
close to on pace to do the same again this year.
Zach Corton is a really good tight end, both in
the kind of the past game and also a really
really good blocker. And then on defense, you know guys
like Michael Kamara, who's Indiana's this pass rusher. Both starting
linebacker Sadan Fisher and Jalen Walker came over from James Madison,

(09:52):
very very good players. Two safeties that Indiana brought in
from actually old Dominion, so guys that Signette would have
when he was at JMU Terry Jones and Sean Astbury
who had big roles last week. And D'Angelo Pons, who
was another one of those high profile jam you guys,
was one of the Freshman All American a year ago.
At corner a little bit smaller obviously, that maybe becomes

(10:16):
a bit of a talking point this week.

Speaker 3 (10:17):
I know Washington's got some big receivers.

Speaker 4 (10:20):
But Ponds is a really good cover corner and also
isn't really afraid of contact for a guy his size.
So I mean there have been, you know, on frankly,
on both sides of the ball. Kind of up and
down the depth chart, you can find evidence of how
good of a portal window Indiana had last winter.

Speaker 3 (10:37):
Kind of everywhere on this rockster.

Speaker 5 (10:39):
You mentioned a little bit about the udub offense in
Boston is one of their big target especially in the
red zone. How do you think the Hugers planned to
contain their explosive offense this weekend.

Speaker 3 (10:51):
It's very fascinating.

Speaker 4 (10:52):
I mean, I would have said up until a couple
of weeks ago that Indiana's secondary was maybe one of
its weaker points. And I still think there are other areas.
If we're going kind of group by group on offense
and defense, I still think there are probably other areas
where Indiana is deeper and Indiana stronger. They did make
kind of a couple of tweaks in their secondary in

(11:14):
terms of like starters last week, and it made a
pretty big difference. Jones had a big game, Sean Asberry
had a really important interception in the second half. But
I'll be honest, from a physical perspective, you know, this
is not a big secondary, and particularly a corner. A
lot of Indiana's corners are going to run a little
shy of six feet, maybe even shorter than that. I

(11:36):
know Nebraska's receivers, you know, we're kind of the same
sort of physical profile as a guy like Boston, but
they haven't been nearly as consistent or nearly as productive
and so you know, with last week, maybe a nice
tune up for this game, you know, for some of
those players to kind of get a look at at
how you defend a bigger, more physical receiver, but maybe
one that's not quite as good as the one you're

(11:56):
gonna face this weekend. Maybe I don't know, but that
is it's probably one area where again you talk about
scoreboard pressure, you talk about teams being able to.

Speaker 3 (12:04):
Move the ball against Indiana.

Speaker 4 (12:06):
I do wonder if, you know, if Washington can maybe
you know, flex some of that muscle unintended early on
and maybe get Indiana to a place where at very
least Washington can do what you know, frankly, nobody's been
able to do yet with Indiana, which is make them
play from behind, make them feel a little scoreboard pressure,

(12:28):
maybe get them, you know, just feeling a little bit,
a little bit uneasier, a little bit sort of out
of sorts.

Speaker 1 (12:34):
Zach Austavin, the Indiana University football beat right for the
Indie Stars joining us here, but beacom plumbing hotline in
ninety three point three KJRFM, I'd say give it the ball.
The Huskies get the ball to Jonah Coleman, twenty five
times and see what happens. I hear you about the
smaller secondary of those acts. So Washington, you mentioned the
schedule so far, not exactly first rate. They got Washington.

(12:57):
Hoosiers have Washington a home, they go to at Mission
in State next week. They host Michigan November ninth, Then
they go to the Horseshoe to play Ohio State on
November twenty third, after a bye week, Purdue at home,
then the Big Ten Championship game. It seems like Ohio
State's the big roadblock here. But where do you see
this season going. How realistic is it that they can,

(13:20):
if not run the table, be a one last team
with their only loss to Ohio State going into the
potentially a Big Ten championship game at g rematch.

Speaker 3 (13:29):
Yeah, I mean I think.

Speaker 4 (13:29):
It's possible, you know. And if you look at the analytics,
they fall somewhere between maybe Indiana wing ten games. I
think after the win last week, and again probably the
way the final score and some of the results affect
the analytical formulas probably push Indiana more toward a projection
of eleven wins. In general, like everyone's always kind of
understood the second half of the schedule was going to

(13:51):
be more difficult than the first half. And I think
maybe one of the reasons that last week seemed to
turn so many heads with it. I think a lot
of people were waiting to see Indian Dana play a
team that was perceived to be, you know, a rung
above your U c l as, your Northwesterns and so forth.
And you know, for Indiana and I just play that team,
but obviously, you know, to win pretty substantially. I think

(14:16):
that that that that is what it takes kind of
gotten a lot of people's attention. But you know, you know,
I've cursed worked this week. It's kind of unclear if
Indiana will have him next week. Michigan State, I know,
it's kind of, you know, in the midst of its
kind of build process with Jonathan Smith. But that's always
a tough place for Indiana to go. It's a trophy game,
it's a rivalry game. You know, Indiana's seen some some

(14:37):
promising seasons derailed up in East planting before and then
Michigan I understand, is you know, kind of the talk
of the victim for maybe all the all the wrong
reasons with its inability to pass the ball, that's still Michigan.
That's still a team that Indiana hasn't beaten in front
of fans, and you know, thirty some odd years, I think,
so you kind of have to you do have to

(14:58):
just sort of temper things so you see this team
prove itself. But what I would say is before the
Nebraska game, I knew a lot of people and I
probably felt similar to this that they just sort of said,
now we see Indiana kind of play the middle class
of the conference. Teams that are going to win six, seven,
eight games, teams that should get to ball games, Teams

(15:19):
that have, you know, real strengths, whether it's Nebraska's defense,
Washington's past game, you know, whatever, it might be, Michigan's
ability to run the football. Here's where we kind of
find out the answer to that question, which is where
exactly does Indiana fit in the Big ten picture? You know,
they've kind of come out of nowhere. This was not

(15:39):
a team that was really established in Bloomington before this season,
so there's no sort of prior context for frame of reference.
You kind of just need to see them week to
week to keep reframing what this team is capable of
and where it's ceiling is and I think that last week,
this week, and probably next week in East Lansing are
the ones that maybe tell you if Indiana's still nine
to zero on the other sid out of that, that's

(16:00):
when I think you start thinking, you know, can this
group If not, it's not genuinely goes twelve no, which
is obviously kind of dreamland for Indiana football. I suppose
to streamland for anybody twelve oh twelve, no matter who
you are. But you know, if you can't do that,
then at minimum it can get out of the season

(16:21):
the regular season with only one loss, and then you
don't know where the tie breakers are going to fall
between and Penn State, Ohio State, Indiana. But if you're
an eleven win Big Ten team, I find it very
hard to believe you're not gonna be in the playoffs.
So at that point, I mean, that's when that's when
Indiana kind of crossed into the realm of true sort
of you know, we're not in Kansas anymore kind of

(16:43):
kind of activity.

Speaker 1 (16:44):
Zach Osman and the Indianapolis Star what there will be
a sizeable number of Husky fans have traveled to Bloomington
for the games. Are there always are. What can I expect?
I see, the state has been renovated. This is a
basketball town and basketball state, and the basketball school is
I don't have to tell you. And I've had I've
had family members go to IU and it's always been.

Speaker 2 (17:01):
Basketball, basketball, basketball. What can they expect Saturday? And what
kind of environment has this become?

Speaker 3 (17:09):
Well, I'll say two things.

Speaker 4 (17:11):
Number one, I think specifically this season, I mean, Indiana
has sold out the Nebraska game. It's sold out all
its remaining home games. This is gonna set a record
for sellouts in a single season for Indiana. The Maryland
game would have been to sell out to if the
remnants of Hurricane Helen hadn't been kind of sitting on
top of Bloomington basically all day that day. So from

(17:32):
the sort of fan perspective, I mean, fans are engaged
with this team, they are excited about this team. They
are you know, they are aggressively sort of bought in.

Speaker 3 (17:42):
What I would say.

Speaker 4 (17:43):
Is and I don't know how much this transmits, you know,
if you're not coming to Big ten games anything. Indiana's
never had a problem being a tail giving town. The
fields and lots are full just about every Saturday, the
question is whether or not the fans come.

Speaker 3 (17:59):
Into the stadium, and you know, lately the answer.

Speaker 4 (18:03):
Has been that the fans are going to be in there,
They're gonna be passed. I mean, it's funny because you know,
for so long we've kind of had these these discussions about,
you know, how did Indiana get fans into the stands,
and you know what, what is what does Indiana have
to do to kind of get people bought in and
whatever else, And then the stadium was only half full

(18:23):
by the end of the Nebraska game because Indiana had
delivered a performance where everybody was just kind of like,
what are you gonna what are we still doing here?

Speaker 3 (18:30):
You know, forty nine to seven.

Speaker 4 (18:32):
It's it's kind of indeed, yeah, like watching the Braska
take this. So it will be sold out, it will
be a really good atmosphere. Obviously, Game Days in Town
is the first time hosted Saturday game Day. They had
it once for a Thursday opener, but this is the
first time they had gotten the full program.

Speaker 3 (18:51):
Everybody's really excited about that.

Speaker 4 (18:53):
And like I said, listen, it's you know that there's
a part of this too that even before all this
started and all this happened. It's still a Big ten town,
it's still a Midwest town, It's still very much a
college town. I mean, Bloomington is one of the smallest
towns in the Big Ten in terms of just your
population ties. It's not far from Indy, but it is
a small town and it has a small town feel

(19:14):
in terms of you know, bars and restaurants and dining
and how engaged the community is of the university. So
anybody coming out here, I mean, you're going to get
a real kind of you know, vintage Big ten college
town experience. And then on top of that, you're going
to get a fan base that's probably more excited for

(19:34):
football than I mean, certainly I've ever seen it, and
it's gotta be up there with basically anything Indiana's ever done.

Speaker 2 (19:40):
Sounds great.

Speaker 1 (19:41):
Nine am Pacific noon on Indiana Time. On Saturday, Indiana
thirteenth ranked the surprise of college football against the Washington
Hoski's here at ninety three point three. Kids your FM,
Zach Osterman, thanks a lot for joining us and enjoy
the weekend, enjoy.

Speaker 3 (19:54):
The game absolutely, thanks for having me.

Speaker 1 (19:57):
Thank you, Zach, Zach Astroman Indianapolis are Indiana Indiana football
beat writer telling us even without Curtis Rourke, they've got
weapons on offense thanks to the transfer portal, but they're
small in the secondary. The Hoosiers already thinks that's an
advantage for Washington and their bigger receivers. We'll see if
Will Rogers in the Washington offense Jedfish can take advantage

(20:17):
of that. I still say Jonah Colemban the ball twenty
times Husky's going into Hoosiers Hoosierville and ESPN Game Day
and the whole scene with thirteenth ranked, undefeated Indiana on
Saturday nine am. Kickoff here in ninety three point three
KJRFM up next four nine four five one. To tell
them more, dude, text time is game time. It's tally time.
It'll be time to read back your text an eleven

(20:39):

Speaker 2 (21:01):
Welcome back, Greg best show with Christopher Kid here from
the Virginia Mason Athletics Center in Renton, Seahawks headquarters before
they played at Buffalo Bills and the Battle of Division
Leaders on Sunday one o five pm Atlumentfield. The music
means it's time to read back your text and tell
them more through text line four nine four five one
and in five minutes eleven thirty five factor fiction Pelo

(21:22):
two six.

Speaker 5 (21:23):
I subscribe to the Athletic for just those type of
stories they're reporting. Is phenomenal, but hadn't seen that one
A blindside movie should be made about this as a
fundroser fundraiser excuse me for his siblings. Yeah, really great piece.
I also ready during the break, so thank you Greg
for sharing that because I was needed, sir from the
six six two. I have no idea where that is at.

(21:45):
But Gino leading the league in passing yards doesn't make
him elead the media keeps posting that status. If it does, instead,
it means we have a terrible run game and are
or playing from behind far too often. Discuss Yeah, I
think you pretty accurate there. That's something we Greg and
I have talked about throughout the season is Yeah, he's
throwing a lot of yards, but the run game is

(22:06):
atrocious and they're not gonna win games by having Geno
drop back and throw fifty times a game. That's just
not winning formula.

Speaker 1 (22:12):
Yeah, the yards human mahone talks about this a lot.
The yards doesn't impress him with how many attempts they have. Right,
they're throwing more than anybody in the league, and it's
not how Ryan Greb wants to play.

Speaker 2 (22:23):
Thanks for Mississippi for the text.

Speaker 5 (22:26):
Oh you are on it, Greg, Did you look it
up or did you know that I had to look?
All right, fair enough, let's see this is another one
from the two to six. Great story, Greg, thank you
for sharing it. That's regarding Greg Davis or excuse me,
Ray Davis his story. So that was really cool. A
lot of people with Sean love there. Oh, okay, here
we go Teddy ball game, our guy Teddy ball game

(22:49):
from the five six two. Abe Lucas is a kup
cooves are tough. He's got this go koog. So yeah,
maybe he does play before, but I don't think so.
Regarding with what Mike McDonald had to say, I think
He's going to return after that Bie week to phase
the Niners, which would be huge.

Speaker 1 (23:07):
Four two five says, the Ray Davis story is exactly
the reason I listened to your show.

Speaker 2 (23:12):
So powerful. Thank you for sharing that. I appreciate that.

Speaker 1 (23:16):
And also, yeah, and this is how I thought people
would take it. Nice story, Greg, all Caps go Hawks
f the Bills. That works too, I get it.

Speaker 2 (23:26):
You can like the.

Speaker 1 (23:26):
Story and not like the Bills. Two O six couldn't
agree more. David's story is one worth reading and learning
about his journey. I have exactly zero percent interest in
the story about Brownie James.

Speaker 5 (23:39):
From the two five to three Seahawks haven't protected home
field in a very long time. I don't think that's
going to change. I was just being optimistic. My apologies.

Speaker 2 (23:48):
That is true. The home field advantage has gone away
in recent years.

Speaker 5 (23:52):
It has, but I was just throwing it out there.
You know, they have a chance to protect the quote
unquote home field. Josh Allen's coming to town, MVP candidate,
can you shut up the noise and have your best
defensive performance from the d lin all the way to
the secondary linebackers, everybody included playing as one the.

Speaker 2 (24:09):
Four two five, says Wish.

Speaker 1 (24:10):
The mid morning show is hosted by fans of the
Hawks like it used to be, and I want to address this.
I'm a journalist. I write for the New Distribute. I've
been writing sports for twenty five years. I don't root
for the teams. I cover what they say and do.
But I am a journalist.

Speaker 2 (24:26):
And if you want to listen, you can listen to
anybody and anyone you want. I don't care you listen
to and enjoy. That's up to you, not me.

Speaker 1 (24:33):
But I have a perspective of a journalist and I'm
not saying, well, I sure hope the Seahawks wins, so
I don't read about the Ray David.

Speaker 2 (24:41):
I'm not going to tell you about the Ray Davis
Puffalo Bill story. I care more about.

Speaker 1 (24:46):
Stories and human interest pieces and where people's journeys have
been how they got here, than who actually wins the
game on Sunday.

Speaker 2 (24:52):
I'm sorry, That's just who I am and what I do.

Speaker 5 (24:55):
From the two six, I believe this is all right, Travis. Hey, Greg,
you enjoy Gladiator yet No, I have not all right
what you need to the.

Speaker 1 (25:04):
Point two five three is someone who grew up in
the foster care system and played sports that can relate
so much.

Speaker 2 (25:09):
What an amazing story to Ray Davis.

Speaker 5 (25:12):
Thank you guy from the two five to three. This
music got my mind. I seeing Hugh watching Josh Allen
tape in a dark quiet room.

Speaker 2 (25:23):
Yeah, that's that cut's gonna be done and stationing from me,
I think.

Speaker 5 (25:26):
Yeah, I think maybe Hugh might be like, hey man,
I need.

Speaker 1 (25:29):
To lead that he did this morning on the he
said that went off the rails if he came in
this morning on the ground table four two five says
why did they bring Baker in there?

Speaker 2 (25:36):
Well, they thought he was athletic enough to.

Speaker 1 (25:39):
Be in McDonald's defense as the weekside linebacker, but yet
strong enough to hold up against the run. He proved
to be one of those. And the other thing is
he was always injured. I mean, he was injured all
of offseason from the wrist surgery, didn't do any of
the offseason practices, and then he didn't show up on
the field in training camp because of a hamstring issue
and he missed two games because of that. Adapt the

(26:00):
fact he wasn't strong enough against the run and he
wasn't on the field available for a lot of the time.

Speaker 5 (26:05):
Then that's what happened, all right, Greg, It's that time, yes.

Speaker 1 (26:08):
Sir, A chance to win one thousand dollars from the
Emeral Queen Casino, the betting capital of the Northwest.

Speaker 2 (26:12):
Our daily time is right now for.

Speaker 6 (26:15):
Set to go. Glad you're with us.

Speaker 7 (26:16):
It's your shot at our weekly thousand bucks and the
ten thousand dollars grand prize. It's Fact Door Fiction, brought
to you by the Emerald Queen Casino, the betting capital
of the Northwest. Make the beautiful New WEQUC sportsbooky your
home all football season long. Fact Door Fiction is on
Sports Radio ninety three point three KJR FM.

Speaker 2 (26:43):
All right, Chris, I'm guessing you're going to NFL.

Speaker 5 (26:46):
You have guess correct. You know what I'm going to do.
I'm gonna go with the pick that I made last week.
Emma was wrong.

Speaker 2 (26:53):
This week.

Speaker 5 (26:54):
I think they will definitely get the w Give me
the New York Jets seven at the Patriots.

Speaker 2 (27:02):
You're a glutton.

Speaker 5 (27:03):
The Jets they have to win at some point.

Speaker 2 (27:06):
I didn't understand. I just they have.

Speaker 5 (27:08):
They are too talented to be losing games. They're two
and five. They're going on the road against a terrible,
terrible New England Patriots football team. I don't see that changing.

Speaker 2 (27:19):
Drake May has been good. I mean, they're not hopeless.
The Patriots.

Speaker 6 (27:24):
They're one in six. They're hopeless.

Speaker 1 (27:26):
Well, they they've got Drake May. Now that a lot
of that one in six was Dakobe Brissett.

Speaker 5 (27:31):
They're hopeless. Give me the Jets minus seven. Go out there,
have a dominating win, go to three and five and
go from there. I just think the Jets have too
much firepower on offense to be this bad, and I
think they get some of that figured out against the Patriots.
So you know what, I'm taking the Paps minus seven.

(27:52):
I just didn't go ahead.

Speaker 2 (27:54):
They're three games out of the division already. Too.

Speaker 5 (27:56):
Well, this is a good game to start, right. This
is a show them what you got game. So go
out there, show them what you got. Win by eight
or more. Help make me happy, number one and number two.
Help someone get a thousand dollars by texting in fact
to four nine four to five one.

Speaker 1 (28:12):
Yes, minus seven at the Patriots. If you agree, text
fact to four nine four to five one.

Speaker 2 (28:17):
If you disagree, you think to.

Speaker 1 (28:18):
Patriots will lose by a fewer than seven points, or
maybe I'll win the game outright at home text fiction
to four nine, four to five one. You've got twelve
minutes after that, aft to wait until two thirty five
when he in for Nest makes his pick for today,
or three thirty five when Dave Softymller and Dick Fane
make their pick Jets minus seven at Patriots. Chris says
again how it works. You'll have to win once to
be put in the name, but we put in the
hat to win the one thousand dollars weekly prize from

(28:40):
the Emerald Queen Casino. But I behoos you to enter
as many times as we do it, four times a day,
five days a week, because whoever wins the most between
now and the contest ending at the middle of December
will win the grand prize of ten thousand dollars from
the Emerald Queen Casino, the betting capital of the Northwest.
Going down to the Emerald Queen Casino, watch all the

(29:00):
games that you just wagered on or didn't even wager on.
Just watch them beautifullyecue. You know it's supposed to be
rainy storming tonight and tomorrow in Seattle, and go down there.
The Emma Queen, you've seen a right o F five
five in Tacoma for the vetting capital of the Northwest,
sponsoring Factor fiction Jets minus seven at Patriots. If the
agreed text factor four nine four y five one. If

(29:22):
you disagree text fiction to four nine four or five one,
you get about ten minutes up next the in for
Nest before his show that begins.

Speaker 2 (29:29):
At twelve until three.

Speaker 1 (29:31):
Get your Tickson on Factor Fiction on ninety three point
three and KJRFM.

Speaker 2 (29:41):
Welcome back at Greg Belts Show with Christopher Kidd.

Speaker 1 (29:43):
Rolls on here on ninety three point three KJRFM from
the Virginia Mason Athletics Center in Renting.

Speaker 2 (29:49):
This is the time every day we still have a
few minutes Factor fiction.

Speaker 1 (29:53):
Yes you do, text four nine four to five one
Jets minus seven over the Patriots.

Speaker 2 (29:59):
If you think the Jets will by eight or more.

Speaker 1 (30:01):
Text fact fiction.

Speaker 6 (30:04):
Fiction back, May I appreciate your pick?

Speaker 1 (30:07):
Yes, and Furness is giving his weighing. And if you
don't think the Jets will win by eight.

Speaker 2 (30:14):
Text fiction, you just admitted. Here are your texted in fiction.

Speaker 6 (30:19):
I only text fiction every day at three thirty five
as I have it. That's again this week exactly right,
exactly exactly okay.

Speaker 2 (30:30):
Forness joined us the mayor and maple valading into his
show twelve to three.

Speaker 1 (30:33):
I want to read this back from the text line
because I think Ian would appreciate this. Okay, forty five
says Greg, you're lying to yourself ninety nine percent of
the local journalist's route for the Hawks. You spent all
these years here covering the team, and you don't root
for them. Double quick question marks you're lying to everyone
or something's wrong with you?

Speaker 2 (30:53):
That made me laugh.

Speaker 6 (30:54):
I mean, I can't, I can't listen. Everyone feels differently,
right like everyone everyone has. You know, you're an AP
writer and you're not from here originally, right, Okay, and
so that's hard. I will say this, like when I
worked in other markets where I wasn't from Portland and
Salt Lake specifically, I wasn't fans of those teams. I

(31:16):
didn't root Hell, I've kind of rooted against a couple
of them, to be honest with you. But but but honestly,
you know what I did root for. I'll freely admit this,
and this is why everyone's different. I when I was
covering a team and a game, I did hope that
they would win because it made my job about ten
times easier. True, and so my job is easier, it's

(31:38):
and it's more And the other thing is it's more relevant,
you know, like like it's more relevant. I always say
I was lucky I got to grow up. I was
a Seahawk fan growing up, and I got to cover
my hometown team in the NFL for sixteen years. I
mean I still do. I guess on the radio, but
you know, really really cover them for sixteen years. But
I did find myself less of a fan necessarily of

(31:59):
the team, even though I grew up being a fan
more of I just want them to win because I
don't want to have to deal with the nonsense when
they lose, and it's a grind and trying to get
interviews and do my job. It's just one hundred percent,
I will say now more of a fan watching games
at home. If this makes sense, I'm not as emotionally
invested in the game. I doesn't feel like because I

(32:20):
don't have to stress out about God if they don't win,
who am I going to talk to? kJ Wright doesn't
play here anymore, The favoral doesn't play here anymore. Who
am I going to talk? Will Disley just got moved
to La Man? Who am I going to talk to?
And it's funny because I do find I found myself
voted rooting for that as much as anything. But it's
a conflict that many people in our business go through

(32:41):
and everyone's different. Doesn't mean it's right or wrong, doesn't
mean what you do is better than what somebody else
does or vice versa. It's just you can't tell people
how to emotionally feel right.

Speaker 2 (32:52):
And you can't tell them how to do their job.

Speaker 1 (32:54):
No, I it helps me. I frankly, I think it
helps me to not be from here cover this team. Yeah,
And I have a I have a willingness to go
into stories or ask questions that maybe someone doesn't right,
And I think that has worked to my advantage in
my career. And no one's ever said, well, you're not
a Seahawks fancy, you can't cover this team. No one's

(33:15):
ever stopped no one. The person who hired me for
the job I'm speaking on right now said that they
wanted something different, something that is a different perspective of
a reporter, journalist perspective and content, And so yeah, I'm
sorry if you want a fan turn on a radio
at three o'clock.

Speaker 6 (33:32):
Well, but yeah, I mean and doesn't listen just because
you're not a fan of a team doesn't mean like
and you have two very different jobs like this, this
job is different than the newspaper job. Like that's a
totally different job. Like, I mean, you you know, we're
on the radio. It's whether a fan or not is
going to be more it's centric towards the local teams
of course, right, So that's that is different too than

(33:53):
what than you know, people asking about the fandom stuff. Hey, like,
if we're being honest, like the show that was here befo,
I mean we can say with Puck and Jim, right sure,
they like one of them grew up a huge fan,
Puck did, and Jim grew up as a as a
fan here, but also was in your shoes for many years. Right,
he was a he was a beat writer for the

(34:13):
Sonics and then he was a columnist. You know when
we have Danny O'Neil on every Friday. Danny grew up elsewhere,
but you know, was a beat writer and when he
did his show over at the other place and stuff
like that. I mean, he came at it from a
different perspective. I think that that's good to have different viewpoints.
And how even the show before your show, you know,
with those two guys, you know and my friends, those

(34:37):
two guys, they would criticize like like they would like
if people. They would criticize all the time, to the
point where I know that the Seahawks weren't happy with
especially one of them. Right, So, like you can be
a fan and still criticize in the fan like, so yeah, listen,
this is the greatest thing about this radio station. God,

(34:57):
now I'm turning into a company guy.

Speaker 2 (34:59):
The greatest thing.

Speaker 6 (35:00):
About this station is you have so many different voices
from so many different backgrounds and so many different places.
Chuck's not a fan of any of the teams here.
He didn't grow up here, right, you know, Bucky grew
up in Hermiston, Oregon. He's a Duck fan and a
Broncos fan. Doesn't mean he can't do sports radio and
Seattle really well, which he does. You know, you grew
up elsewhere and then you know, worked in the Bay

(35:21):
as a beat writer for a number of years. You know,
I grew up here, went to other places, came back
with it in perspective. And then the two guys in
the afternoon. One guy is Seattle's biggest sports fan, and
that's what makes him great at what he does because
he's unique and different than everybody else. And the other
guy grew up here as a fan. But nobody's more
critical of the teams than Dick. So, like, I don't
know what people want. Why are they criticizing? What's the problem?

Speaker 2 (35:43):
You tell me? Help me out, just so I'm not
lying when I say I'm not a fan of the team.
It's truth.

Speaker 6 (35:50):
But did I just go through the whole line up?
I did a Russell Wilson. I went through the entire roster.
You know this guy and this guy. But if you
go through that roster, everybody here on this station is
different and unique. And if you go back all those
years before, it was the same way. Gas wasn't from here,
Gross wasn't from here, Nancy wasn't from here. You know

(36:10):
none of those So but everyone handles it differently. I
don't know what people want. And I'll look if you
want to look across the street. I don't know if
any of those people are from here, right, So one
of them is I get the quarterback from Pula, But
I mean it just it's you should want to have
different voices and not raw raw raw like you should

(36:31):
want that and hell softies, see that was biggest sports fan.
Do you think he's not critical at times?

Speaker 2 (36:36):
Of course?

Speaker 6 (36:37):
I mean, come on, people, relax, enjoy the shows. They're
all good, they're unique, they're fine. Let's go sports radio
and it's sports saying in real life. Man, let's go
appreciate it.

Speaker 2 (36:45):
Let's go.

Speaker 6 (36:47):
I say, I'm the older, I get the less. I
just like whatever people you do, you you know, I
mean I worked for the Kraken and and you know,
Amy fan, I work for them. I want them to win.
Makes my job more relevant and easier, right, But you know,
I don't know, It's just doesn't take away from the
fact that, you know, Alice and I have things aren't
going well. We'll say they're not going well, right like

(37:09):
you know, but there's a way to do it. So anyway,
I'm done, I'm off my soapbox starring got me? Why'd
you get me going?

Speaker 2 (37:15):
So? Damn all right? I didn't between you and you
the last two days. I just got to find you
up and you.

Speaker 6 (37:20):
Guys, what did you get wind? Up lined up about
Josh Allen yesterday was Oh that was that was fanboy stuff, though,
wasn't it. I was just getting on my carn and
her say something like one of my top five favorite
quarterbacks of all time, right, something like that.

Speaker 1 (37:33):
Chris, He eventually at the end said watching Josh Allen
is like watching football porn. And so Chris, Chris had
the best question he's had in the seven months we've
had the show. He said, does that mean you locked
the door and don't let anyone in the room, make
sure nobody comes.

Speaker 6 (37:51):
What was his answer?

Speaker 2 (37:53):
Exactly?

Speaker 6 (37:54):
He said, exactly, He's the best man. He's awesome.

Speaker 2 (37:59):
Then this morning I got the Seahawks round table. You said, yeah,
they kind of got off the rails. I thought it was.

Speaker 6 (38:04):
I think it's fantastic. Well, the NBA is Seattle sports porn.

Speaker 3 (38:08):
I hate it.

Speaker 6 (38:09):
No one will watch it.

Speaker 2 (38:10):
You still do? I still do.

Speaker 6 (38:13):
Although David watched the Blazers last night, and we tried
to watch the Blazer game last night against Colden State. No,
so I clicked on Like on Comcast, you can click
the little C button and then shows all the sports
are on TV right, including ESPN Plus or whatever else.
So I clicked on it. I said Blazers and Goal
State Watch, and I clicked it. It was Blazers broadcast.
It was on some random station seven hundred something. I

(38:35):
don't even know what it was. And it wasn't HD,
which is those are all HD channels. It wasn't And
I guess I was reading stuff today. They're new to you.
It's the Kraken God bless us, did it right? Everything's free?
It's HD. Guys are great quality. I don't know what
the Blazers are doing.

Speaker 2 (38:51):
What are they on.

Speaker 6 (38:53):
They're on a secondary station from K two in Portland,
which is Sinclair owned, which the Como affiliates up here,
so I thought maybe be on their ARC or whatever
the hell it is.

Speaker 2 (39:03):
So it's kind of like a cong deal.

Speaker 6 (39:05):
Yeah, but it's like like I'll give you like Fox
thirteen for example, we have three stations right, we have
called We have Fox thirteen. We I don't work anymore,
Fox thirteen, Fox Plus which is channel ten if you
have Comcast. And then they also they also own me TV,
which is like Hogan's Heroes and stuff like that. That's

(39:25):
I think what the Blazers are on up here is
like their third station or something. But it was it
was like I'm watching them like I have my eyes fixed.

Speaker 2 (39:33):
Is this two thousand?

Speaker 6 (39:34):
It's blurry? Yeah, Casey's down in hall, Casey. Casey set
up to he'll be okay in two years, man, he'll
be okay in two years later when he comes home,
he'll be okay in two years parade exactly. Stuart Mandel's
get to join us from the Athletical Talk all Things
college Football at twelve twenty today. Looking forward to that,
Corbyn Smith one o'clock and the unofficial start of the

(39:56):
weekend bredon Fundston It too.

Speaker 2 (39:58):
Texts need to start in about four and a half minutes.

Speaker 6 (40:00):
As you guys know, it's a very simple rule. We
do not read text unless they come in after noon
on the dot. Last week we had six that were
at exactly twelve o'clock. I don't know how you guys
do it, but you've never ceased to amaze. It's amazing. Yeah,
So we'll do that coming up today.

Speaker 1 (40:18):
That is Ian forness in your ears from twelve to three,
as he is every weekday. I'm Greg Bell. I'm gonna
go talk to Gino Smith and we will have to
watch practice and see if Freak WiLAN is back out
there again, see if DK Metcalf's out there, which I
don't think you will be.

Speaker 2 (40:31):
I'll be back tomorrow on Your Heir with Christopher Kid
from ten am to noon. Thanks a lot for listening.
