Speaker 1 (00:00):
There are season's over. I'm done. I'm not taking the
Jets the rest of the season.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
Two and six lost to the Patriots. But hey, Washington
State one and didn't cover as I predicted, Boise State
one at UNLB and covered as I predicted. And man,
it just broke my heart to see Navy get absolutely
annihilated by Notre Dame fifty one fourteen as I predicted.
Laid the eleven and a half. You could have laid
what thirty one and a half and still been fine
in that one.
Speaker 1 (00:22):
Well, they have been playing so well, so I get
why the points preay was only eleven and a half.
Speaker 2 (00:27):
Yeah, Army gets Notre Dame in about three weeks at
Yankee Stadium. It's not going to be fifty one to fourteen.
I can tell you that anyway. Three and oh, if
you listen to me last week, you had one thousand dollars,
you had three chances to win one thousand dollars. If
you listened to me last week, three and two, where
were at the show? They have updated the standings, I'm sure.
Speaker 1 (00:47):
So we had eighteen wins previously, you add three, we're
at twenty one and two losses, So twenty one and seventeen.
Speaker 3 (00:55):
If I'm not mistaken, see.
Speaker 2 (00:58):
I's got smashed by one of the NFL the league teams,
which they certainly are not. I don't think anyone can
argue that Husky's never led and got beaten soundly at
undefeat Indiana. Washington State is ranked. As I said twenty
second after beating San Diego State, Chris will want me
to say that every.
Speaker 3 (01:12):
Hour, No, no, you don't have to rub it in.
You do not have to rub it in.
Speaker 2 (01:16):
Crack and loss to end their five game homestand at
ten to thirty, we're gonna talk to Mike Benton as
we do every Monday about the weekend that was for
the crack in one game this weekend instead of two,
but the homestand ended with a thud after it started
promisingly two to two and one cracking where on the
five game homestand eleven o'clock, the friend of mine, Ryan O'Halleran,
came up on in the press box yesterday at Loumenfield.
(01:37):
He's the Buffalo news beat writer of the Bills, and
he apologized for not being able to come on our
show on Friday because he was flying west. He said
the Bills didn't fly till Saturday afternoon. They got in
like at three thirty. Wow. The East Coast teams always
do that. They they don't go two days early. They
think the time zones in their favor and so they Yeah,
he said McDermott. Always the Bills coach always goes on Saturday.
(01:58):
The beat one on all the Beat writers went on
Friday to enjoy Seattle. But eleven o'clock we're gonna talk
to Ryan O. Howard get the Bills perspective on yesterday's
beat down by Buffalo in Seattle. The Bills are back
on track. I think we can see that. But the
Seahawks Shureer helped them get that way. Factor fiction today
is eleven thirty five your chance to win one thousand
dollars from the Emerald Queen Casino. If you want to
(02:21):
agree with me and get a chance to win one
thousand dollars, do so. If you don't, then you're just
wasting your time text fiction and you had the same
amount of money you did before you listen to the show.
Eleven thirty we're gonna do your text to fort nine
four to five one tell them we'll do text on
as we do every day at eleven thirty eleven week
weekday and for Nasill joined me at eleven forty five
to talk about Seahawks and crack and leading into the
(02:43):
show from twelve to three. Remember we got the UB
Coaches Show today with Jed Fish on at six o'clock,
Dave Softy Muller and Dick Fain's Show, and then we're
going to go joined in progress for the Monday night
game Seahawks. Excuse me, Steelers and Giants from Pittsburgh will
be right after the Coaches Show here on with Jed
Fish and you Dub Tony Caster Cone from six o'clock
(03:05):
until about seven, and then seven o'clock will join in
progress Steelers Giants on here on ninety three point three
kJ RFM The Kraken. They start tonight their MLS playoff
best of three series against the Houston Dynamo. It's a
five point fifty or so start. I've got tickets to
that game and I'm five fifty. He had no idea
(03:25):
it was gonna be that early. That was like a
seven thirty start. Anyway, They get Houston to night at Loumenfield.
They were already tearing down Womenfield. Putting down the goalpost,
taking the paint off the football yard markers yesterday, right
after the game for the Sounders best of three tonight
first game that's on a nine to fifty AM our
sister station in KJR AM. We'll have Sounders in Houston
(03:46):
Dynamo five point fifty kickoff headlines brought you by Frostbrud Corse.
I choose chill Staffs. Couldn't run, didn't run, couldn't stop
the run. That's the first concern that Mike McDonald had
after this game is that we still can't stop the run,
and we still can't run. Then they blew two first
in goals, Connor Williams snapping about five feet over Gino
(04:07):
Smith's head at the goal line. Then Williams the center
stepping on Gino Smith's foot because he got bounced back
right off the snap on a fourth and goal from
the one. There's fourteen lost points. They lose by twenty one,
thirty one to ten. Wasn't even really that close. Eleven
penalties for Seattle, three personal fouls, including one on the
quarterback on that one. Chris, I don't know if you noticed.
(04:31):
Smith was retaliating the fact that he got hit up
underneath the chin. After the he stepped out of bounds
and then he threw the ball into the fender's face
and the referee only saw the ladder. The second one
has often happened, and that's why Smith got the fifteen
yard foul, but he didn't appreciate getting hit beyond the
sideline boundary. DK Metcalf not playing not a factor. If
he had a play, they would have lost too. And
(04:54):
some people tried to ask Mike McDonald after Dame about that,
and McDonald basically said, yeah, we still need to execute.
I mean, yeah, he's bet cast one of one. We
missed him, but we still have to execute and play
far better than we did no matter who was in
the field. Here's a Mike McDonald had to say the
very first opening statement. You can probably hear the disdain
in his voice.
Speaker 4 (05:12):
That's the result of a good football team that outplayed
us in the three phases. And then it gets out
of HNT when you're doing the things that we did today,
or we didn't help ourselves as well. It's a laundry
list of things. We could go line at him by
line on him if you want, but the long and
short of it is we got out played, we got
out coached.
Speaker 2 (05:27):
We got to go make it right.
Speaker 4 (05:29):
So too often that we've had this conversation with you
guys of going back to work on Tuesday and hitting
this thing head on and seeing if we can get
this thing turned around, and against a good RAMS team
coming in here.
Speaker 2 (05:40):
So if I asked him at two o'clock today, Don
and Rent and Chris, Hey, Mike, can we go line
on him by light on him? Go down that laundry list?
Speaker 1 (05:48):
Greg, You're funny, but no, we said you said you
can do if you want you want to.
Speaker 3 (05:52):
I'm telling you now it's not happening, Greg, but I
would love.
Speaker 2 (05:54):
For you to try it. I always laugh when he coach.
He does say that quite a bit. You should ask
him we can go down the list and even has
no design. Here's what you should ask him. Hey, Mike,
I've noticed that you love the double corner blitz. Can
you can you go into detail about that and when
you think you'll finally get a sack with one of those,
because I feel as if you ran that every single
week up till week eight. Go ahead, Mike, Yeah, he's
(06:17):
probably it could be two. No, he will not the
Cardinals rallied to win late at Miami. The forty nine
Ers beat the Cowboys last night, So the Cardinals, forty
nine Ers, and Seahawks are all four and four in
the division. Arizona leads it by tiebreakers right now because
they beat the forty nine ers and the forty nine
Ers beat their Seahawks. The Rams are three and four,
a half game back of everybody else in the West,
(06:38):
and they're coming to Loomingfield Sunday and what Mike McDonald
called a really big game. I noticed that yesterday after
in the press conference, when he said we got a
really big game coming up. That's something his predecessor never said.
All the games had the equal importance. He didn't want
to put one more important than another. I thought that
was interesting.
Speaker 1 (06:56):
Not that it's wrong now, it's just different. He realizes
the situation this team is in.
Speaker 2 (07:01):
Right, but to acknowledge that is different around here in Seattle.
No new injuries. Draymond Jones hurt his shoulder during the game,
but then came back. The outside linebacker who continues to
sometimes struggle in his new role. Used to be a
defensive end. Jones came back and finished the game. Elsewhere
in the end, it what tons more we're going to
talk about. Don't worry, And in a minute, we're going
(07:21):
to talk about a big picture question I posed to
Mike McDonald about his Seahawks in the NFL elsewhere yesterday
the Lions and they keep playing like the best team
in the NFC, fifty four to fifty two, fourteen over
the bad, bad Titans. The Jets, Christopher Kidd's favorite team
and Aaron Rodgers complete mess, lost again at one win
New England. Even with Drake May injured and out. Jacobe
(07:45):
Burssett comes in and rallies the Patriots past the Jets.
The Jets are two and six. What a mess that is.
Let's bring in a Hall of Fame quarterback, let's fire
everybody to his liking, and they're still two and six.
They were better than with Aaron.
Speaker 3 (07:59):
Wilson is the quarterback, Zach Wilson, whatever his name was.
Speaker 1 (08:03):
They don't I don't know if they were better, but
they were worse. Yeah, they're not better than they are
now with all this that they have.
Speaker 2 (08:11):
Trade for DeVante Adams, fire the head coach, put a
new offensive coordinator, and then they're still too.
Speaker 3 (08:15):
And you think he's missing Vegas yet.
Speaker 2 (08:16):
Man, he's probably missing anywhere, but where he is right now?
DeVante Adams.
Speaker 3 (08:21):
Yeah, and your Bengals, Chris, sorry, oh that was so disappointing.
Speaker 2 (08:25):
Eagles.
Speaker 1 (08:25):
They look good in the first half, really, yeah, they were.
It was tied up and I'm thinking, oh, they're going
to make a run in the second half.
Speaker 2 (08:32):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (08:32):
The Eagles made the run in the second half. So
there it is five.
Speaker 2 (08:35):
And two now. The Bengals are three and five. Packers
are six and two. They beat the Jaguars by a
field goal in Florida. Chiefs remained the league's only unbeaten
team twenty seven to twenty win at Las Vegas. My
buddies to cover the Raiders are talking about how they're
coach is not game management and inexperience showing up as
if it would have mattered in the end against Patrick
(08:56):
Mahomes and the Chiefs. And college football is now four
and four. Another road loss in the Big Ten. That's
oh and three in the Big Ten on the road
lost at Indiana. Will Rodgers threw a pick six early
and that was that they chased. The Huskies had to
chase the rest of the game. They still don't give
the ball to Jonah Coleman consistently enough thirty one to
seventeen loss. You know, Indiana not only undefeated, not only
(09:19):
what are they ranked now twelfth in the country. They
have not trailed in the game this year. Their road
gets a lot harder here they play. They played in
Michigan at Michigan State this week, then they host Michigan,
then they go to Ohio State the next three. For Indiana,
you dub host USC Saturday four thirty here on ninety
three point three KJRFM with a twelve thirty pre game
(09:41):
show with Dave Softi Moller and the Husky Hanks on
Saturday at Husky Stadium.
Speaker 3 (09:44):
Chris LL four incoming. Really you think USC, Yeah they're
going to win that they are?
Speaker 2 (09:51):
Yep, I got it.
Speaker 3 (09:52):
Who wants to bet me? Yeah? Text line's open.
Speaker 2 (09:55):
You know how far the USC and Washington have already
fallen in the Big Ten? Is that game on Saturday
four thirty?
Speaker 3 (10:00):
It's amazing it's.
Speaker 2 (10:01):
On Big ten network. Crazy with all the national television
contracts the Big Ten has they're relegated to like it's Minnesota,
Maryland or something.
Speaker 3 (10:12):
I didn't expect that. No, nine weeks right, We're only
eight games.
Speaker 2 (10:16):
Into their Big Ten tenure and it's already USC Washington
is on the Big ten network. Man, careful what you
wish for Washington State rallied from two scores down in
the second half to when.
Speaker 1 (10:27):
It's sitting to what you said, rally they were behind.
Oh I'm interesting, Okay cool? Huh were you worried early
third quarter?
Speaker 3 (10:38):
Greg?
Speaker 2 (10:38):
I texted my son, I said, Materi is gonna get
going here.
Speaker 3 (10:41):
Of course I was worried.
Speaker 2 (10:42):
I had not. I had very much the confidence the kooks.
Speaker 3 (10:45):
You've been on roller coasters, right, Greg?
Speaker 4 (10:47):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (10:47):
I know. Yeah, So you know that feeling when you
tot the top and you're like, oh my gosh, you
gotta go down, and your stomach is you know where
it is, It's all the way up in your chest.
Speaker 3 (10:54):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (10:55):
Watching that game, I was like, oh my gosh, here
we go again. And then they excited the cake. San
Materia gets rolling to me and they.
Speaker 2 (11:01):
Scored that first touchdown down two scores, in like ten seconds.
I went into the kitchen, came back out and they
had already scored a touchdown after being down two scores.
That was another game where if San Diego stay. If
another if that team would have run the ball with
that back who was rolling, then they stopped running in
the second half. I was like, just give the running
back the ball. He had like what one hundred yards
(11:22):
in the first two and a half quarters and then
they stopped running the ball with the lead.
Speaker 3 (11:25):
Yeah he was good.
Speaker 2 (11:26):
Yeah, and then they started passing. Then they go three
and out and here come to Coogs. That was that
was kind of weird. In San Diego State's part. Cougs
are now twenty second, They had the week off and
they host Utah State on November nine. They're gonna need
some help. Still not impossible for them to make the
College Football Playoff, but yeah, I know they need well,
hell eleven and one. That's pretty damn good for what
(11:46):
they've gone through. Oregon, Boise State's going to need to lose.
I need Boise State to lose to the Army team
to pribade and dream. Every heart and Gray can make that.
I feel you on that. So yeah, because right now
Boise State is the highest rank power for team which
gets an automatic slot into the College Football Playoff. I mean,
they'd probably be the twelve seed in play at Ohio
(12:08):
State in the first round. But so what, that's the
entry that the non Powerful four schools have, so Army
needs to win out. I sure would help to beat
Notre Dame at Yankee Stadium in a few weeks, win
that Army Navy game, win the conference championship game against Navy,
just collect all the marbles for themselves. But then they
still would need Boise State to lose to be a
chance of being the highest ranked non Power four team.
(12:29):
Crack and loss to Carolina Climate Pledgerina Saturday night, the
close of the disappointing five game homestand two to two
and one, meaning two wins, two losses in an overtime
loss on the home stand four to four and one
for the season. Now after the four and two start,
Crack and play at Montreal to begin on a road
trip tomorrow here on a ninety three point three KGRFM
with a three thirty pre game show with Mike Bent.
Mike Benton will have a pre show of the pregame
(12:51):
show with us at ten thirty today his weekly visit
as he does every Monday. Sounders. As I said again,
host Houston to Night at Lumenfield five pointifty kickoff on
nine fifty DKJR am Best the three first round of
the MLS Playoffs World Series. Game three is tonight's show.
Hey Tani apparently will play after injuring his shoulder and
the Dodgers Game two win on Saturday. Los Angeles is
(13:11):
up two oh with the game three tonight in the Bronx.
Chance for the Yankees get back in it. We have
time to get into this right now, or should.
Speaker 3 (13:18):
We go Unfortunately don't ten though.
Speaker 2 (13:20):
Rekooling though, I gotta say something about Rerek wlling Oh.
Speaker 3 (13:23):
I can't wait to hear that. Ten forty five. Nice
little tease.
Speaker 2 (13:26):
There you go, the very first series of the game.
Speaker 1 (13:29):
We can get to it at ten forty five, Greg,
I can see you over there, Mike Ben Yeah, get.
Speaker 2 (13:33):
To talking cracking weekend next ten forty five, we'll talk
about rekwol and we'll talk about a bigger picture. Look
at the Seahawks that Mike McDonald I made him look
at that way after the game and he answered me.
At eleven o'clock. Ryan o'hower and Buffalo News the Bill's
side of the Seahawks beat down yesterday, and we'll talk
more Seahawks eleven thirty five Factor Fiction, Your chance to
win one thousand dollars from the Emerald Queen Casino. All
(13:54):
that and more coming up next ninety three point three
KJRFM O.
Speaker 5 (13:57):
Back Do Fross, Breuce Coors Light, two Chill Mondays with
Greg Bell and Christopher Kidd on Your Home for the
twelfth Man, and the NFL Sports Radio ninety three point
three kJ.
Speaker 2 (14:09):
R FM Welcome ackt The Greg Best Show with Christopher
Goodd for a Monday post Seahawks home loss to Buffalo Monday.
The Kraken also played this weekend Saturday Night a climb
and pledge you're into their five game homestand ended. We
(14:31):
talked to Mike Betton on the Beacon Plumbing hung on
right now. He's here every Monday at about this time
ten thirty. Mike, Good morning to you, Good morning Greg,
how were you?
Speaker 6 (14:43):
And also a shout out here to Christopher Kidd. I
hear he is absolutely killing it in fantasy football here
this week, and I heard there was a massive take
down here on the other side.
Speaker 1 (14:52):
I'm not sure what you're talking about, but I know
there's a lot of cracking to get to. So how
about those cracking, Mike, Ben.
Speaker 3 (14:59):
Mike must have hand you this weeknd. We're not going
to get into that.
Speaker 1 (15:03):
I'll let you believe whatever you'd like, but I do
know there's some crack and stuff to get to.
Speaker 3 (15:07):
So Greg, I'll let you start things off.
Speaker 2 (15:09):
Go ahead, please, So Mike, for the first time, I
don't know, I'm stuck on this goaltender rotation issue. For
the first time this season, it was back to back.
It starts for Joey to Cord. How'd that go? And
do you think there's now a new leader that is
going to emerge in the Cord versus Grubauer.
Speaker 6 (15:24):
Well, I think we're inching closer to that with someone
taking this mantle. And I think a lot kind of
was riding on the Carolina game because the Cord going
in mark the first time anybody had started back to
back games before that. It was a strict platoon situation
and for several reasons, Greg, I mean, I think John
Borsln touched on this. We had him on our postgame
(15:46):
show for the last half hour, and I thought what
he said was really spot on. I mean, between honestly,
for the first roughly eight games, the Cord and Groobauer,
nobody really had taken this mantle yet as far goaltending.
I mean, you see his of you know, what these
goaltenders can do to really you know, drive this team
(16:07):
direction to win games. And they're gonna have to basically
that that this team plays offensively and that there are
some you know, defensive holes that you know may pop
up from time to time, but you know, virtually almost
you know, every game except maybe for one, you could
honestly say there was at least one or two goals
where you think, you know, that's the goal that you know,
incertain name of goaltender right here would want to have
(16:29):
back in was not good here. So you know, despite
the crack and losing the Carolina, it really could have
been much worse, honestly without Kelly the Cord and several
great saves that he made here in period two. So
interesting to see where Dan Wilds m lean's here for
what's next year with Montreal coming up tomorrow night. But
you know, I thought that the challenge that the Cords
(16:50):
saw for a team that Carolina puts out every game
where they shoot with near reckless abandon the court handled
the assignment just fine, and I think that may be
something that trends more to seeing more starts with them
here down the road.
Speaker 2 (17:04):
Yeah, okay, so even in the loss, you think that
the Cord showed something for to one loss, but could
have been what seven eight one?
Speaker 3 (17:12):
Greg, I know, oh sorry, go ahead, go ahead, Mike, No.
Speaker 6 (17:17):
No, no, I'll just very quick and to touch on
Grake's point, I really think so, I mean, there was
you know, I think aside from maybe the breakaway goal
that the court gave up to Seth Jarvis, which you
know kind of helped put the game away. You know,
really from the get go, Carolina was was all over
the Kraken in the offense of the zone for Carolina's side,
(17:38):
and the Cord was put under duress for much of
the entire night. You know, he made some saves. I
thought that really, I think established the point that if
the Kracking had to win this game, they had to
steal it with goaltending. Eventually Carolina was going to break through,
and that put much more stress on the offense, which
could only put up one goal, and then you have
Carolina attacking on empty that goal. So you know, for
(18:00):
for the most part, if not all, that not the
courts fault. You know, I think the reason why that
they made more of a step here toward determining, you know,
who gets more of the starts, and maybe him.
Speaker 1 (18:12):
Now I know this going back a little further when
I look at the game against the Jets, in that
loss and overtime, but Matty Veneer's he scored twice and
he looked like he was finding the rhythm. Do you
think we'll see something similar to that, hopefully as a
second season progresses, because they could really use his game
in these certain situations.
Speaker 6 (18:33):
Yeah, it's one hundred percent. And I think for a
player like Matty Veniers, who even told us before the
season that he wants to be a player who drives offense,
you know, not just the guy who's going to win
your face offs and play well in the defensive zone,
that was a big, big step in the right direction
for him. It's almost kind of like the Julio situation
guys or other players that you might see in the NHL,
(18:57):
Major League Baseball, the NFL. You have to have your
best players show up consistently to have a chance here
to win games. The crank and are a team that
is of course built on offensive depth, but Vaneers was
challenged to, you know, improve his physique, improve his skill set,
show that he's able to, you know, handle the address
(19:20):
of a long NHL season and be the guy to produce.
And I thought we saw that, you know, throughout parts,
if not most of the Winnipeg game, you know, two
games ago. You know, he was great at the face
off circle. He looked very comfortable and he should be
between Jared McCann and Jordan Neverlle He's played there a
lot previously in his career. But at times he looked
(19:41):
like he was the best player on the ice and
he was a big, big part of them driving that
comeback down three to one. So he came back again
with a great assistant the Jared McCann goal against Carolina.
And I really think we're seeing something now with that
line they've got together McCann, Beniers and Everly, which I
think could be a big big piece here to get
(20:03):
Benier's going in the right direction, because again they have
to get him going here to be able to hang
around in this thing long term of the playoff picture.
Speaker 2 (20:11):
Mike ben joining us since he does every Monday at
this time, thanks to be complumbing hotline to have Mike
bent On talking about the Krakens weekend. That was Mike
Ayolchik brought up something interesting during the broadcast the other night.
I caught him saying that Dan Bousman the third period
against Carolina showed a willingness to shorten his bench and
get fewer guys that he thought he could count on
(20:32):
the rally onto the ice. Is that something you expect
to see a lot of that he did Saturday night?
Is that something? How big a departure is that from
his predecessor Dave Hackstall, and this early in the season.
What messages that's end of the team.
Speaker 6 (20:47):
Oh, I think very noticeable, Greg. And you know coaches
will do this from time to time, even you know,
if you want to use the other extreme. You know
in Edmonton, you know when when when you need a
goal or two, or if you're in a tight game,
you're double shifting Connor McDavid or Leon drys or loading
them up on the top line. And in this case,
(21:08):
Dan Bilesman told us that he's willing to go there
and put players out repeatedly, over and over and over
who have either been producing, you know, recently for a
spring of games, or have shown that they have been
around and they have been active and they have been
playing at the pace he wants to generate offense, those
(21:29):
players are going to get key ice time late in games,
and those you know who have been falling behind. It's
likely or that you might see the bench. We've already
seen that a few times over the last three games here.
So I really think that when it comes down to
the last you know, two three minutes, Bilesman attends to
(21:50):
fall into I think a group of coaches where you're
often challenged to answer the question, who's the most trustworthy
guy out there for the last two or three minutes,
Not just a guy who's gonna makebe pop one to
score for you, but as a guy who's not going
to handle the pug like you know, a hot potato
or a grenade, And all of a sudden you find
yourself down by a goal, with you know less of
(22:12):
the meant left and regulations. So I think a bit
of a departure here from the previous regime. You know,
there was more of I think, you know, a tendency
to roll the four lines here there there there's a
little more thought that goes into this, a little more
discretion that goes into this with who you put out
when the game is on the line and the game
(22:35):
is very tight and west three or four minutes. I
think it's a smart decision here and a big reason
why we see players you know, like you know Jordan
every Jared McCann, even Jayden Schwartz, you know who can
score but also can play responsibly. Who are going to
get those minutes out there?
Speaker 2 (22:51):
So who's on the outside looking in in the third
period in those situations, who's not quite yet the trustworthy?
Speaker 6 (22:57):
It seems well, if you look at the last three games,
you know, there's been I think less of you know,
I think usage of you know, Ty Cartier and some instances,
and that's no knock I think as far as his trustworthiness,
but I think a player that they've got to get
going here is Andre Berrokowski. Guys, he was actually on
the bench. I tracked this last three games with five
(23:19):
minutes or less. The the metrics have been treading in
the wrong direction. And this is a player that you know,
has been gifted so much with the shot that he
possesses to be a difference maker. He's popped twenty goals
before the NHL. He's scored in Game one of the
Stanley Cup Final to win it for Colorado back in
twenty twenty two. You know, whatever is you know, kind
(23:42):
of contributing here to a start that he's enduring. You know,
it's still a mystery here at this point, but ultimately
it's going to be you know, falling on his shoulders,
you know, period one, period two, early in period three
to be a player who can play assertively, who is
going to you know, distribute, and he's done that as well,
but also use his shot with discretion and with that
(24:04):
discretion comes assertiveness because it's one of the best in
the NHL and his release is one of the best
in the NHL. But ultimately it is going to come
down to using it and getting into the great areas
which normally lie and it's the dots to go ahead
and use that. So again, I mean, the more that
they can find you a chance to get him going,
the better off. It's going to work for them and
(24:26):
their death and the options that Dan Bilsma has to
go on ahead, Mike.
Speaker 2 (24:30):
Betton, appreciate it. No picnic coming up for the crack

a while. Now five hundred team heading on the road
at Montreal tomorrow night, tomorrow afternoon, Seattle time coming on.
Next we'll talk about Reek Wallan. He had an interesting
two play sequence in the very first drive of the game.
(25:37):
It was very noticeable to me right under the where
I was sitting at the press box. We're also gonna
talk about a big question, picture question. Excuse me that
I brought up to Mike McDonald after the game yesterday
and he pondered it, and I thought gave a pretty
thoughtful answer. You're here from Mike McDonald. Next eleven o'clock,
Ryan o'holleran Buffalo news beat writer for the Bills, longtime
NFL beat writer friend of mine's going to join us
(25:58):
talk about the Buffalo perspective of yesterday's game four nine,
four to five, one the to them. We'll do text line.
We'll be back your text at eleven thirty and eleven
thirty five. Factor Fixing your chance to win one thousand
dollars from the Emerald Queen Casino, your first one of
the week from our show. All that and more coming
up next on a Corse Light Football Monday, ninety three
point three KJRFM. Welcome back to Greg Bell Show at
(26:25):
Christopher Kidd ninety three point three KJRFM. We just had
Mike Benton on talking about the Kraken and about he
says Joey Decord he thinks is edging up into the
being a full time goalkeeper and Philip Rubauer number two.
The Cord got the second consecutive starts Saturday at a
four to one loss to Carolina that Mike Ben said
could have been far worse if the Cord hadn't played
as well as he did. He was the top performer
(26:46):
on the team, a lot of people thought Saturday night
in a four to one loss, So it looks like
Joey decord head heading out on the road trip is
edging ahead. And the first time Saturday they did it
at alternate goaltenders game over game Seahawks, could you some
goaltending yesterday or something that they didn't have thirty one
to ten in a game that wasn't even that closed
with home lost to the Buffalo Bills. Chris, did you
(27:09):
notice the first drive of the game, Riquelin, there was
a pass defense on the far sideline from the press
box the east sideline, a pass overthrown really by Josh Allen,
but Greek Wollen got there and he got credit for
a pass breakup on Keon Coleman, the rookie wide receiver
for Buffalo, and at the end of the play I
(27:30):
don't know if they showed it on television, but I
was watching it through my binoculars. Wolan gave the slash
throat gesture off the TV. Pick that up, Yeah, I
saw that. Okay, Yeah. Woolan gives the throat slash gesture
to Keon Coleman for denying him of that touchdown. Two
plays later, the other sideline, Coleman runs a fade route again.
(27:53):
Allen's throw was not as far as it had been
the first time, and Coleman just plucked the ball off
of Woolan's helmet. Wollan never turned around, had he turned around,
to you, or at least could have made a play on
the ball, and Coleman's hands arm strong enough to hold
onto the ball once Wolan realized it had arrived, touchdown Bills.
I thought with something somewhat poetic that Coleman, the rookie,
(28:16):
then tapped Woolan on top of the good try.
Speaker 3 (28:18):
Big fellow. Yeah, I thought that was funny too.
Speaker 2 (28:20):
After the game, Wolan talked about the Seahawks needing to
play with discipline with a team struggling as defensively as
they have been, and that was the end of a
ninety yard drive that took like nine minutes. I'm not
sure tapping the guy on top of the helmet is
the most disciplined approach that Wolan could take there or
the throat slash. I should say it is not the
(28:41):
most disciplined approach that Wolan could take there with the
rookie anyway, that the strength of that team is the secondary,
and if they're giving up touchdown plays, that's bad for
that defense because they're not doing a whole lot better
anywhere else stopping the run. Especially Mike McDonald has been
leaning on that secondary, and of course it's been beset
by injuries. Yesterday, they started the game in base. They
(29:02):
had Witherspoon outside with Woolen as the two starting corners.
McDonald seemed hesitant to go nickel, which most teams do
against Buffalo and Josh Allen, and then when they did
go nickel, it was target Josh Job time. Yeah, Job
got his first career interception he jumped the en route
on Namari Cooper in a quick slant. But other than that, Chris,
every time it was Nickel, it was like Josh Allen
(29:25):
was looking for twenty nine it mean automatic and he
completed passes. I think it was four different receivers against
Job and big plays in the second half down the
middle of the field. We talked about the deficiencies and
pass coverage down the middle of field all season, but
it really seemed like McDonald schematically was stuck between whether
he wanted to stay in base and not have Job
(29:46):
out there to become a target, or go Nickel with
Witherspoon inside. And then it was a siren call for
the Bills to throw at Josh Job, and they took
advantage of it time and time again. Trey Brown's injury,
he came back, he was active for the game from
the brained ankle, so it looked like he was going
to be the one that wed the third corner. Yet
Wollen McDonald's explained this morning and his coaches showed that
(30:08):
he didn't feel Brown got enough playing practice time quality,
enough practice time coming off the injury last week to
be ready enough to play, and that's why they went
with Job instead. They probably would have targeted Brown similarly,
but it was obvious that Buffalo's game plan was when
Job is in the game, we're going at him. It
did net Job an interception. That was the interception that
(30:29):
led them to one of the two failed first in goals.
Job's return was thirty three yards down to the seven
yard line and that was the first of the two
first and goals they screw up the one that Connor
Williams snapped the ball of Virgino smith head. I asked
Williams about it after the game in the locker room,
after the writers the cameras peeled off. I came up
to him late and I said, to snaps, it's been
(30:51):
a concern most of the season. It's gone unnoticed by somebody.
He's been high on a lot of snaps out a
shotgun and he said, yeah, that had he acknowledged that
been a season long problem. I've read where some people
in Miami thought that was a problem. And he said
he's got to get his hips lower. He's six foot five,
which is six feet five, which is taller than most centers.
And Williams explained that he's got to get his hips
(31:13):
lower on the snaps and he said it's a constantly
in the back of his mind, not just in the
red zone, but when you're at first and well, in
that case, first and goal of the seven. There are
some coaches who won't go shotgun. For that reason, the
guy who was on our show, a Hall of Fame nominee,
Mike Holgren, never did shotgun and one of the reasons
(31:33):
was he didn't want that any dealing with snap issues.
But he I mean, it's a different game now, of course,
the when Mike Homgrim was coaching the Seahawks. But anyway,
Williams did acknowledge that he has to get better on
his snaps, one of many parts of his game that
he said he's been subpar so far for the Seahawks.
And then finally, Chris, I wanted to bring up the
fact that we are only in week eight. The Seahawks
(31:56):
are only in week eight of a new regime, a
new system, new offense, new defense, new special teams. We're
so focused on the here and now in this week
and can they beat the Bills, can they beat the Rams?
But in the bigger scope, this is the infancy of
what should be a five to six year program. Nobody
wants to hear that, and there's no time for that,
and it's always about the hearing now. But I asked
(32:17):
Mike McDonald yesterday, was yesterday's result indicative of where they
are in his program? So far, and we talk.
Speaker 4 (32:25):
About stacking wins around here, and when you're going on
and off, back and forth, it's you know, it's frustrating.
You know, you want you want to be able to
build on on the good things that we're doing so
we can get our program to where we want it
to go. And then when you take steps back like today,
it's very sobering. You know, it's frustrating. And uh, but
you know, I mean, this is the NFL and if
you don't if you don't bring it and have your
(32:46):
best against good teams, win those games. So our guys
know that. And thus cast coaches, we got to prepare
our guys the best we can. We got to call
great games. I mean, this whole thing has to keep
coming together. So, but time is ticking, as we say,
I mean, we're almost about halfway through the season and
now and you take a step back, I mean right
in the thick of it in the division, and this
game coming up is going to be a big one.
Speaker 2 (33:07):
There's it's gonna be a big one. Yeah, that's the thing.
In the division. They're four and four, The Cardinals are
four and four, the forty nine ers are four and four,
and the Rams are three and four. So big picture, yeah,
they're okay, but there's so many troubling signs and when
they play good teams, there is just a golf between
them and the opposition. Four nine, four to five one
on Tellem we'll do text line your thoughts on Mike
(33:27):
McDonald's thoughts of the big picture and the fact that yeah,
and the big picture in the division that they're still
okay and competing in a big game this weekend with
the Rams at home at Lomenfield one twenty five a
little bit later kickoff on Fox Sports this weekend in Seattle,
and then the bye week for the Seahawks after the
Rams game coming up here. Up next, Ryan o'halarin, he's
(33:49):
the Buffalo News Bills beat rider. I'm going to get
his perspective on the Buffalo side of the thirty one
to ten win for the Bills over the Seahawks yesterday.
Eleven thirty five Factor fixtion your chance to win one
thousand dollars from the Emerald Queen Casino, the betting capital
to the Northwest. And then, of course the Inferness will
join us at eleven forty five, as he does every
day leading into his show from twelve to noon. We
have a television to give away. We'll tell you about
(34:10):
that next. Lots more to do here on ninety three
