Speaker 1 (00:00):
Ron Howin's been on a plane all morning. He's back
in New York, I hope. So anyway, it's not an
easy trek from Seattle to Buffalo. He's kind enough to
join us on the Beacon Plumbing hot Line to talk
about the Buffalo side of the Bills. Thirty one to
ten went over the Seahawks. Rano Howard and the Buffalo
News joined this long time NFL beat writer.

Speaker 2 (00:16):
Hello, sir, Hey, Greg, I got at a door about
a half hour ago because of delays.

Speaker 1 (00:22):
Wow, well you're a champ for joining us.

Speaker 3 (00:25):
Thank you.

Speaker 1 (00:25):
Yeah, as we were talking about the press box yesterday,
Seattle the Buffalo is no direct trek yesterday it seemed
to me, and we talked before the game about how
the Seahawks were just inferior and talent to Buffalo. It
almost was like a work themke performance for the Bills.
How did the Buffalo perspective? Was that a performance they

(00:46):
were pretty much happy with or there were some flaws
they want to correct from yesterday?

Speaker 4 (00:51):
I think both things can be true.

Speaker 2 (00:52):
You'll start with the positive is you know they had
not started well in games the last couple of weeks.
Will they solved that with that first tribe were they
overcame a lot of things penalty wise. You know, most
rushing yards this year, second, most passing yards this year,
most first doowns this year, most yards this year. So
the offense is starting to get cranked up as Allen
becomes more familiar and more comfortable with a lot of

(01:14):
these new receivers. Defensively, I got going in the game.
They're is going to be in hold on mode without
Turrel Bynard's right middle linebacker and Von Miller serving his suspension.
So I think the vibe in the locker room was
three things. One offensively, this is how it should look like.
Two they're playing with fire with the penalties. And three
they got a three and a half game lead in

(01:35):
the AFC East only eight games in the season, So
those are the talking points. But hey, as you know,
a lot of teams have made that trip across the
country and maybe have had better talent than the Seahawks,
but didn't win. The Bills took care of business yesterday.

Speaker 5 (01:49):
You mentioned the penalties and I had to look it
up to double check, but they had eight offensive penalties
and I think there was one that offset, so that
brings it down to seven. If I'm not mistaken. I
think they converted on all of those when those penalties
set them behind what is it, second and thirteen, second
and fifteen, second and twenty, they were able to convert

(02:11):
and get first downs. Were you surprised that that success
that they had, especially when they shot themselves in the foot,
whether it be a false start and or holding.

Speaker 2 (02:19):
Well, they've unfortunately for them, they've had a lot of
practice at that off and behind the behind the sticks
because for some reason, this offensive line has false start
problems home and away. But you look at that first drive,
they had a second and twelve, they had a first
and fifteen, they had a first and twenty, and they
still end up scoring a touchdown.

Speaker 4 (02:39):
So they've done a good job.

Speaker 2 (02:41):
I think one of the bright spots for the starters
and that was the third offense. They had not been
very good on third down this year. When the starters
left the game yesterday, I think they were eight to
twelve on third down. And what they did is they
got some manageable down in distances. So you know, when
you have Josh Allen first in twenty is a different

(03:02):
counter of first than twenty, but it's something that when
they start punching up in class, and they got Kansas
City in three weeks. Here, they got to they're not
gonna be able to get away with as what many
errors as they have recently.

Speaker 1 (03:15):
Ryan Howe and Buffalo News Bill's beat writer, joining us
back from Buffalo. He made the truck all the way
back on the Beacon Humming hotline here in ninety three
point three KJRFM. Ryan. After the game, Mike McDonald, the
Seahawks coach, said that they were pretty confident in when
Josh Allen would run and that Joe Brady, the offensive coordinator,
has really streamlined the opportunities to have him run and

(03:37):
that they don't run him. His study has been that
the Bills don't have him running nearly as haphazardly as
often as he used to. Is that true? And how
much has Joe Brady kind of corralled the overall game
and maybe even refined Josh Allen's game.

Speaker 2 (03:53):
So, I mean, the first part of that is you're
seeing a lot of less quarterback power. You know, in
the red zone. He's still a weapon. He tried to
get some yards yesterday. Seattle did a pretty nice job
on that. The broken plays, the scrambled he's gonna get hes,
gonna make plays that way. But the design runs they
have definitely cut that down. I think that was the
plan going into last year. Well then there are six

(04:14):
and six at the by they said, okay, we got
a ride number seventeen just to get a winning record,
much less the playoff spot. That's when Joe Brady took
over his offensive cordnerator. But I think the plan all
along was, hey, yeah, James Cook is a thousand yard rusher.
You've got depths at running back. Lean on those guys.
And also, as they did a lot yesterday, those slip
screens to secure a couple of those tunnel screens to kincaid,

(04:38):
which don't really work. I know why they do that,
but yeah, there definitely has been a concerted emphasis on running.
Josh Allen on design keepers a lot less, and so
far they'd stayed disappoined in doing that.

Speaker 1 (04:52):
I thought Greg Russou was tremendous yesterday, especially in the
first half. He just took the game over in the
line of screamings. A lot of people did that with
the Seahawks offensive line. But where's Rosseaul. I don't want
to say he's come out of nowhere, but especially now
that Von Miller's in the twilight of his career and suspended.

Speaker 3 (05:07):
How big is rassou Ben for the Bills defense.

Speaker 2 (05:11):
He've been terrific and and you're right, I mean he
set the tone on that first drive with two bad passes.

Speaker 4 (05:16):
And you know, he had a game.

Speaker 2 (05:19):
He had a game against Houston pass rush wise, but
he didn't have any sacks, but he had like four
quarterback hits. Against Tennessee he had a half sack, but
I think five knockdown. So he's getting close to getting
those sacks. But teams are aware of him now and
they're throwing the football quicker. And also he's playing the
run a lot better. So you know, this being his
fourth year. He came out of college early, did not

(05:39):
play his COVID year, so he saw almost had a
lot of on the job training with the Bills. So
you know, I think those sacks are gonna come. I
think getting Von back, you know, Von wasn't a starter
when he was eligible to play earlier this year, but
just Vaughn's presence should free Rousseau up. And then I
think Dwan Smoot from Jacksonville signed a one year deal
after the draft that j I've asked this a thousand times,

(06:02):
like one of the Jaguars taking since I covered them
for six years. But Smoot Smoot's been a great addition.
Epanez has come on. So I think they have a
nice little defensive line. And you know people are gonna say, well,
their run statistics are terrible. Well, when you give up
nearly three hundred yards in the game to Baltimore, that's
going to skew your ranking for the entire season.

Speaker 4 (06:24):
But they do. They did a nice job against the run.

Speaker 5 (06:26):
Yesterday you mentioned one guy on defense that stood out
in Greg Russo, but on offense, Khalil Shakir. He decided
to have his career day against the Seahawks. Was that
surprising to you just because of you know, you have
Amari Cooper, Keon Coleman is looking to take the next step.
But then Khalil Shakir comes out of nowhere and he's
in the bubble screen making plays, He's down the film

(06:47):
making plays. He was everywhere on Sunday against the Seahawks.
Was that something that you expected.

Speaker 4 (06:51):
Yeah, he's a terrific player.

Speaker 2 (06:53):
He's missed one game with an ankle and he still
leads the team with thirty six catches, that's eight more
than anybody else is coming on second round pick. You
see him breaking out getting better each week. But Shakira
last year, you saw this down this stretch and in
particularly in the playoffs, Josh Allen security blanket. It wasn't
Stephan Diggs. Stefan Diggs was not getting open.

Speaker 4 (07:14):
Shakier was.

Speaker 2 (07:15):
And he saw yesterday he could do a variety of
things and gain a lot of yards after the catch.
So you know, being a you know, a fifth round
pick out of Boise State, sort of had the red
shirt year here in twenty one, picked up some catches
in twenty two, but then when Diggs was traded, gave
Davis Simon and Jacksonville a free agency. They let go
some other veterans. That was a nod to Shakira. So

(07:38):
you know, the thing about Khalil is he's so efficient.
I mean, he had his nine catches came on his
first nine targets and that tenth target was a batter
down pass he couldn't even catch. So so that's that's
the one thing that sticks out about Shack And you
know teams are aware of him and but he's still
making plays.

Speaker 1 (07:56):
Roaner Heler and Buffalo News throw Seattle fans of Bone here.
Tell us how great the Bills are in relation to
the rest of the AFC, and that they're the lead team.
How good are they in the NFL? I know the
Chiefs are still undefeated, but where do you see the
Bills standing in the AFC?

Speaker 4 (08:11):
Well, I'll start with the division.

Speaker 2 (08:12):
The division sticks yep, and you know they're going to
be able to basically give the figurative last rights to
Miami next week here in Buffalo dropped the Dolphins to
two and six. If they can do that, you know,
they're two and zero on the road on division games.
But look at the conference. You know they're losing some
time breakers. They lost at Baltimore week three or week four,
they lost at Houston the game they should have won

(08:33):
they've in week five. So right now, by that math,
you sort of put them, you know, third or fourth
in the conference. You know, if you you know, if
you can keep winning, get that second seed, means you
get that second home game if you happen to win
the in the opening weekend. So I mean this is
you know, Buffalo has done this to a lot of teams.
I mean, they they squeak by Arizona, but they beat

(08:55):
two in Miami by twenty one. They beat the Jakes
by thirty seven, they beat the Titan by twenty four.
Now they be seattled by twenty one. So they are
beating up on teams in which they have the superior roster,
and that's a sign of a good team.

Speaker 1 (09:10):
Right, I'll let you get some rest in the time
zones and all that. I know how much fun Monday
travel across the country is in the NFL. Thanks a
lot for joining us on short getting home right after
getting home, and probably seeing a playoff.

Speaker 3 (09:21):
For Super Bowl pretty soon.

Speaker 2 (09:22):
Thanks right, Craig, catch.

Speaker 4 (09:24):
It up well.

Speaker 1 (09:25):
Appreciate you. Ryan Holleran he was a former Broncos beat
writer I've dealt with in the NFL and with a
friend of his when he was with the Jaguars when
the Seahawks played them a few times. Kind of telling there,
he said, this is what the Bills do. They beat
up on He basically said, beat up on bad teams.

Speaker 5 (09:41):
So yeah, that's funny because I don't think the Stars
are a bad team, but I know they're not a
good team.

Speaker 1 (09:47):
I think they're just.

Speaker 3 (09:48):
They're making for Yeah, they're what their records are.

Speaker 5 (09:50):
They're just they're an okay team because I can show
you a bad team. Have you ever watched the Panthers play?
Have you seen the Titans play? Those are bad teams.
You look all at all fa right, I know Mike
McDonald said, oh, we were bad in all phases.

Speaker 1 (10:02):
Yes, you were bad against a good team. They didn't.

Speaker 5 (10:05):
They weren't bad in all three phases against the Falcons,
which is another men okay team. But when you're playing
a good team, they make you look bad.

Speaker 3 (10:12):
Yeah, Lions, forty nine ers.

Speaker 1 (10:14):
Goals, keep going? Are those are really the good teams
they've played this year?

Speaker 5 (10:18):
And now you're going into a game against another Matt
team against the Rams, so you have to outmet them,
if that makes any sense.

Speaker 3 (10:26):
That's a good way to put it.

Speaker 1 (10:28):
And the Sas are capable of doing that. It's not
like they are. I mean they can this game against
the Rams.

Speaker 5 (10:34):
I just can't look at the Rams and think we
are so much better than them. That's where I think.
That's not where I think. That's what I kind of
see with something with the Seahoks. They look at it
on paper and I wish to smoke these guys, but
they still have Matt Stafford, they still have Pookinakool who's
come back from injury.

Speaker 1 (10:50):
I don't know about their offensive line situation.

Speaker 5 (10:52):
But for whatever reason, they winning game, so it's obviously
working out. So the Seahofs have to have a mindset of,
you know what, We're going to go out there and
play our game, do what we do best. And they
still haven't figured out what they're doing best. That's a
crazy thing you're going to week nine. They don't have
an identity.

Speaker 1 (11:08):
Yeah, throwing the ball is what they do best. I
wonder if Ryan Grubb doesn't run twelve carries for seventeen yards.

Speaker 3 (11:14):
With the running backs yesterday.

Speaker 1 (11:15):
Everyone cites the seventeen carries for thirty two yards, but
really it's the running backs when you call design runs.
The others were scrambles by Gino Smith, twelve carries for
seventeen yards, brassing between Kenneth Walker and Zach Sharbonay. I'm
starting to think, Chris, that maybe Ryan Grubb is doing
that because he doesn't think he can run the ball
behind that offensive line.

Speaker 5 (11:34):
We all seen it. You watch the film. I watched
the film. They can't. There is I don't think that's
why he's not doing it. I don't know any other
way he can try to run the football. The only
thing that I thought of. And Zach Scharbadawe in fortu
he got fine almost fifty thousand dollars. Do you remember
the play against the Lions where they sent Ken Walker
in a what's it called an orbit motion behind the

(11:54):
running back?

Speaker 1 (11:55):
That play was actually successful.

Speaker 5 (11:57):
Now, what you could do and theory is bring in
your big boys something Shane Wadron did you know he
did a lot of thirteen and twelve personnel, multiple tight ends.
You get Farrell Brown out there, who's a good blocking
tight end in the run game, and aj Barner and
then you get a full back. You can probably use
Zach Strawbay the same way you did and try using
that type of running style to try to run the football.

(12:18):
Because eleven personnel running with three wide receivers not cutting it.
Linemen aren't doing nothing, and your receivers aren't doing good
job of blocking as well.

Speaker 1 (12:26):
They're not blocking the nickels or safeties.

Speaker 5 (12:28):
So the only way to find some run opportunities is
probably just using your big.

Speaker 1 (12:32):
Boys and going tight ends more. And Grub's trying to
keep it from Hey, world, we're running the ball, but
he might have to at this point. Yeah, I hear you,
and I really do think that the disparity of runs
and passes is that Ryan Grubb doesn't see them able
to run the ball with this offensive line. So your
point is bring in more blockers here.

Speaker 5 (12:49):
It is Greg's second to nine. You run for one yard? Yeah,
are you gonna run it again?

Speaker 3 (12:54):
Right?

Speaker 5 (12:55):
Seriously, everybody listening. You just run for one yard. Are
you really gonna run it again? Expect to get seven
yards here? No, You're probably gonna have to throw it,
which is the tough decision he has to do.

Speaker 1 (13:05):
And Ryan Grubbs starts to drive and says, what are
my best chances to move the ball here? And it's
always Gino Smith throwing the ball and I cannot blame
him for that, but they absolutely have to run in
order for that offensive line to have a chance to
throw the ball. To get in your creative bag, he said, yes.
Mike McDonald after game yesterday said, we are always in
We seem to always be in the situation. I'm having

(13:27):
to throw the ball so much at the end of
the games. But the seven of the first nine play
calls yesterday were passes. So they come into the game
scripting passed to begin because Ryan Grubb believes that's the
most effective way to get off to a good start offensively.
And why does he think that. One he's got the
playmakers even without DK Metcalf, he still got Smith Smith
and jigbow Lockett. But also because that offensive line does

(13:49):
not give any holes for anybody to run to. It's
just the goal line situations. Yesterday man Mike Direlli inside
penetration on the first goal from the three, then the
snap over the head and made that whole goal line
situation a mess. Even on the fourth and one. What
I thought, what play was that going to be? It

(14:10):
was so much that action right, It looked like it
because he was coming back him was blocking or it
didn't look like their prey. Did not look like he
was running for a handoff. He looked like he was
flaring to block. You're right, or maybe leak. I don't know.
It didn't look like a run. I think that was
going to be a pass.

Speaker 5 (14:24):
Yeah, I have to when the all twenty two is
out now, I have to check it out later. But
it definitely looked like it was going to be a pass.

Speaker 1 (14:31):
I'm next Tealamard tax line four nine four five. Somebody
the four two fives out of Greg. I thought you
asked Brian to make us feel better. The teams he
baked basically lumped us together with did not make me
feel better. Yeah, I'm sorry about that day after thirty

your chance to be a part of the show, all right.

(15:55):
This first one comes in from the four two five.
Get rid of Gino.

Speaker 5 (16:00):
He is trash, third stringer at best third stringer. Greg
sits tea and says.

Speaker 1 (16:08):
What whatever? No, but Sam again? Samhow Johnny Knight is?
Joe Montana would not would have problem Tanna this offensive line.
Gino Smith is not the problem. It's part of the
solution that he needs help tout to solve things. He's
not the problem.

Speaker 5 (16:28):
Speaking of Reek, this is from Marcus two six. I've
been saying Reek isn't good. I think I even sent
you guys a text last week about that. I'm hoping
other people start to see that too.

Speaker 1 (16:39):
I will say his bravado hasn't matched his play recently
last year and a half definitely hasn't.

Speaker 5 (16:45):
From the two five to three negative Nelly Gregg knew
nickname laughing out loud.

Speaker 1 (16:50):
Interesting because I'm I've been saying bad things about the
Seahawks losing thirty one to ten or what's negativity? I'm
not sure because you're honest, you a fair That was
a texture said last week.

Speaker 5 (17:02):
Oh from the two five three, Jay Reid just became
my favorite current defensive player. That was a bonehead played
by a haul. It happens. But good for Reid stepping
up to be a leader. We know he should and
can be.

Speaker 1 (17:14):
That absolutely was what Jared Reid was doing. By why
he did it in the middle of the field was
so that everyone on the team, everyone in the stadium,
every coach could see what he was doing. He's like,
hey man, I'm going to enforce the accountability right now.

Speaker 3 (17:25):
That's exactly what Jaron.

Speaker 1 (17:26):
Reid was in. Yeah, he could have waited ntil the sideline,
but he wanted everyone to see what he was doing.
From the three six oh.

Speaker 5 (17:32):
Thoughts on the outlook of the seahawks remaining schedule, any
predictions on the final record.

Speaker 1 (17:37):
Well, they got the Ram. They really should beat the Rams.
Although the Rams have given him something. McVeigh just schemes
the hell out of him every game.

Speaker 5 (17:43):
But well, this is new, this is I will say,
it's Mike McDonald, not Pete, so we can get we We'll.

Speaker 1 (17:49):
See five and four then coming out of it by
at San Francisco five and five, Cardinals six and five.

Speaker 5 (17:58):
They get a little split, right right, or you would
think the worst case of the split.

Speaker 1 (18:03):
I saw him as a nine and eight team entering,
and I know that's not gonna make anyone happy because
they've been a nine and eight.

Speaker 3 (18:07):
Each of the last two years.

Speaker 1 (18:08):
At nine and eight two, I'm right there with you.
Nine and eight could win the division if San Francisco
doesn't get healthy. I think the forty nine are gonna
get healthy and they're going to have ten or eleven wins,
and the Seahawks better get on that horse. There you
have it, nine and eight two five three Seattle punting
Michael Dixon. Yeah, you know, Mike lost in all that yesterday.
Michael Dixon's first two punch yesterday was sixty one and
sixty eight yards and one of them he got knocked down.

(18:30):
All pro very much could.

Speaker 5 (18:32):
Be Oh, let's see you still run the football. Running
gets this, we know this, But the problem is they
can't run it, so you're just running into a dead horse.
That's why I asked Greg, it's second and nine. You
just ran for one yard? Are you seriously considered running again?
And you saw that yesterday they still ran the football
and what happened four two five says it will get established.

Speaker 1 (18:56):
You have to keep hitting that defensive line, get them tired,
and also hopes Ginos so the defense doesn't know whether
the next.

Speaker 3 (19:00):
Play is a passer rent.

Speaker 1 (19:02):
It'll pay off for the third and fourth quarters and
also sets up the team for big plays.

Speaker 3 (19:05):
I agree with that.

Speaker 1 (19:06):
When you're winning, as long as your defense hasn't given
up points to put you behind in games, then the
offensive coordinator gets urgent, and yeah, then all that goes
to not your chance to win one thousand dollars in
the Emerald, Queen Casino, your first chance of the week
on this show, Your chance to hear the guy who
went three and oh last week. Give you another chance
to win one thousand dollars. You might want to listen
to him is up right now, We're set to go.

(19:27):
Glad you're with us.

Speaker 6 (19:28):
It's your shot at our weekly thousand bucks and the
ten thousand dollars grand prize. It's Fact door Fiction, brought
to you by the Emerald Queen Casino, the betting capital
of the Northwest. Make the beautiful new WEEQUC Sportsbookie your
home all football season long. Fact door Fiction is on
Sports Radio ninety three point three KJR FM.

Speaker 1 (19:57):
Yep, I'm going back to campus. Stay close to home,
five minutes from my house. Husky Stadium Saturday four thirty.
You think Saturday four thirty? Oh yeah, I'm jumping on.
Sorry Dick and Softie. Or I'm gonna take your game.
I'm gonna scoop you. Husky's hosting USC Battle of Titans

(20:19):
on the West Coast. Both four and four, both two
and three in the Big Ten, both relegated to Big
Ten Network on a prime time seven to thirty start
on the East Coast, and yet it's on Big Ten
Network all the TV contracts that the Big Ten has,
and USC Washington relegated to the Big Ten Network. Total
points in this game is fifty five and a half,

(20:39):
says bet mgm, our provider for Factor Fiction, brought to
you by the mraal Quin Casino, the betting capital of
the Northwest, Washington scored only thirty points twice this year
in its first two games against Weaver State in Eastern Michigan.
Ain't no Weaver States in the Eastern Michigan left on
their schedule. Last time this Husky scored even twenty points
was a month ago when they beat Michigan. After they

(21:01):
scored twenty four against that terrible Northwestern team that came
in here. USC's road games, Chris, they scored seventeen at Minnesota,
twenty eight at Maryland, twenty four at Michigan. Yet the
over under this game is fifty five and a half.
Gimme hard. Gimme the under. USC Washington under fifty five

(21:23):
and a half points if you believe me. If you
want to go win one thousand dollars. If you want
to hear the guy who went three and zero last week,
text fact to four nine, four to five one. If
you win, waste your time and don't like free money,
text fiction to four nine, four or five to one.
USC Washington under fifty five and a half total points.
That means I think both teams are going to combine

(21:44):
to score fifty five or fewer points. If you agree,
text back to four nine four to five one. If
you disagree, text fiction to four nine four to five one.
If you're texting fiction, you think both teams are going
to score fifty six or more total points. How it
works is every week we do this four times a day,
five week on Monday through Friday, five weekday. That's twenty
total chances. You only have to win once. If you

(22:06):
enter once, you get name in the hat to be
drawn on Monday to win one thousand dollars the weekly
prize from the Emerald Queen Uscino, the entertainment capital of
the Northwest. But it really does make sense to enter
as many times as you are listening because the more
times you win, you are have the possibility to win
the grand prize when the contest ends in the middle
of December, of ten thousand dollars that'll go to the

(22:27):
person who has picked the most correct between fact or fiction.
Usc Washington, Saturday, four to thirty pm. Right here on
ninety three point three KJRFM fifty five and a half
total points. I say go under and probably under in
a big way. USC washing under fifty five and a
half points text fact. If you agree to four nine
four to five one text fiction. If you disagree to
four nine four y five one, you have about ten

(22:48):
minutes left up next. Ian for NEETs will join us
heading into his show from twelve to three and is
up next on ninety three point three KJRFM. Welcome back
to the Greg Bell Show with Christopher Kidd rolling on

(23:09):
here with the Mayor and Maple Valley Grady in for
Nets joining us in person, live and in studio. Hello, Hello, Whitworth.

Speaker 7 (23:16):
They won They won that little bout undefeated seven. Yeah,
they were.

Speaker 1 (23:22):
Key for her son plays for Whitworth.

Speaker 3 (23:23):
For those of you don't know.

Speaker 7 (23:24):
Yeah, there's seven to oh ranked tenth and one Pole
fourteenth and the other in the country.

Speaker 3 (23:29):
What does that mean postseason wise?

Speaker 7 (23:31):
Are they Well, they got it. They've got to probably
win the conference, which means probably beating Lynnfield again the
last game of the year.

Speaker 3 (23:38):
So it's gonna come down to that.

Speaker 7 (23:41):
Yeah, there's at large bursts. But even in Division three
n cua A football, much like there's this is more
like a Midwest bias because it's uh, yeah, the Minnesota schools,
all the school Iowa that all those Midwest It's a
ton of schools out there that play small college football
and and and that's where like the voters are and

(24:02):
that's where the committee comes from. It's like, oh, you
play on the West coast, and the California schools and
the Northwest schools kind of always get the short end
of the stick. That's f I'm just gonna win, you
know'll be better and win. But yeah, they're having a
good year. They they're running back kid named Luis Sagat.
Will all give him a little shout out. Kids a
stud He ran for three hundred and fifty plus yards
on Saturday.

Speaker 1 (24:21):
Nice Washington kids.

Speaker 7 (24:23):
From Tri Cities, Kenwick kid, and he had a hell
of a game. It was all offenseive line was probably
pretty good to get them there with that part, so
the tackles pretty good. Well that I bust his chops
all the time. That tackle had a good game. So
he played angry, which I like. So yeah, it was good.
It's uh, they've been playing close games defensive struggling because
they got some injuries. But yeah, good, it was a

(24:45):
lot better game than what I saw you had to
cover yesterday.

Speaker 3 (24:48):
Yeah, Seahawks could use keep.

Speaker 1 (24:49):
For right now.

Speaker 3 (24:49):
On the offensive line.

Speaker 7 (24:50):
He wouldn't be worse. I don't think any. I don't
think any tackle in this state would be or any
offensive lineman in this state would be worse. It's playing
any level of football.

Speaker 1 (24:59):
Yeah, that's funny. Someone on four two five and of
text line brought this up, and it's true and made
me laughing. But it's also true. On Thursday and Friday,
everyone talks about the Seahaws are going to lose, and
then when they lose, everyone's like, oh the hell they lost?

Speaker 7 (25:09):
What the well? I yesterday was weird because it to
me yesterday felt like initially I'm like, god, this, I
just this seems like this really like regression and this
and this and this, and I thought, wait a second,
this was This was Baltimore last year. The difference was
it was at home. But the home field advantage has

(25:30):
disappeared at lumen yep.

Speaker 1 (25:31):
I mentioned that at seven o'clock with Chucking Buck this morning.
It has There are profiteers in the season ticket holder base.
The Seahawks always brag about the waiting lists they have
and they're sold out for the years, but those bottom
one hundred levels behind the visitors bench every game. It
used to be, okay, Pittsburgh always travels well, they got
to go Dallas. Yeah, but now it's everybody right, or.

Speaker 7 (25:52):
People are selling tickets. I was just driving down the
waterfront to get here today. There's a ton of Buffalo
fans walking around the waterfront today, day after But yeah,
I I don't know. It's the homefield. Vantages lost its Leicester,
but fifteen and.

Speaker 3 (26:03):
Fifteen the last thirty games, yes at home.

Speaker 7 (26:06):
Yes, Greg, I think the issue I still so early
for this coaching staff. But it's a coaching staff, not
just one guy, because people will point to the head
coach and maybe a guy that just didn't have a
lot of experience in the NFL didn't have the ability

(26:26):
to put together an experienced staff or a staff that
was at the level they need to be. Maybe I
don't know, because what was the biggest criticism of Pete
Carroll the last few years. He lost too many guys
that were high end guys that went on to bigger jobs.
But at some point your talent pool as a head
coach runs out, And I wonder if this if McDonald's

(26:48):
talent pool just wasn't big enough to begin with. You know,
I don't think. I don't know. I hughme Millen hardcore
football to day it one and we'll see. Does he
get a lot of help from his defensive coordinator. I'm
surprised he's on the field, by the way.

Speaker 3 (27:02):
Yeah, me too.

Speaker 7 (27:03):
I don't asking you about that.

Speaker 3 (27:04):
He said he likes to be with the players. He
likes to feel.

Speaker 7 (27:07):
What does McDonald like. Would he want his DC who's
up in the eye up upstairs with with eyes from upstairs.
It makes no sense to me, I would think, so
if he's a play caller. Sure, he's not a play
caller exactly.

Speaker 1 (27:18):
And I asked dirty that and Leslie's ups downstairs too.

Speaker 3 (27:21):
Yes, I don't know.

Speaker 7 (27:23):
I've never coached, so I don't know. I mean, maybe
that's just maybe that's just what it just And I
hadn't realized he was on the field until yesterday when
all the stuff was blowing up. And you know, Leslie
Frazier said, did I sign up for this?

Speaker 1 (27:36):
Jared Reed had the best performance by a leader yesterday
of anybody that's that was a message to the whole
team doing it.

Speaker 3 (27:43):
How he did and where he did right in the
middle of the field.

Speaker 7 (27:44):
To got to, frankly, to a guy who's been their
best defensive players.

Speaker 3 (27:47):
Leading socker, most consistent edgereusher.

Speaker 7 (27:49):
I forget. If you're gonna do that to him, he'll
do it to anybody.

Speaker 3 (27:52):
Exactly.

Speaker 7 (27:52):
He's due to twenty one. Next, I thought it was
twenty seven. You think so, well, twenty one's he misses
tackles he has miss you know, I know we all
want to put him on his pedestal like he's the
greatest player in the history of man. And Brady kind
of did that a little bit in the broadcast early
and then you just like, mistackle it. Maybe he's over aggressive.
Maybe that's just partly like maybe the guys he hurts
himself by being who he is.

Speaker 1 (28:14):
Well, let's also say this, teams exploit McDonald going Nickel.
They just target whoever the outside corner is and they
bring Witherspoon in. But to your point, one of Witherspoon's
best traits as Nickel last year was is tackling an
aggressiveness at the line of scrimamas against the run. Yeah
and yeah, that and Wolan. We talked about Wolan. His
bravado does not match his performance. The throat slash gesture

(28:38):
with Keon Coleman on the first drive the game, they
already marched ninety yards in nine minutes, and then two
plays later he didn't even turn his head to the ball.

Speaker 7 (28:44):
No, it's uh, it's frustrating. I mean, they're I think
the biggest the frustration is that this was not supposed
to be a step back. They hired this guy to
take a step forward. Yes, it has to be. People
have to understand that. That's the that's the indictment here,

(29:05):
right like. They did not hire him to go backwards.
They hired a coach. They fired a coach who was
nine and eight and hired a guy to go better
than nine and eight, not to rebuild.

Speaker 4 (29:19):
We'll see.

Speaker 1 (29:19):
I don't know we'll see yet. I would still counter
that there's still eight games into everything being brand new.
They didn't start over at quarterback per se, but they've
started over it.

Speaker 7 (29:27):
We need to get into because his his demeanor is starting.
He's showing cracks, this great team guy and raw raw,
and I'm gonna like his His demeanor is not thirty
five to fifty million demeanor right now.

Speaker 1 (29:46):
Interesting, that's what they're staring at that decision. What do
you got today besides one o'clock you millon.

Speaker 7 (29:52):
We'll check in. We'll do a little quick Sounders preview
