I don't even know. I do know, Greg, you went
undefeated last week, So I go again to try to
match that, taking one game at a time. Yes, thanks
a lot. Jets and Bengals. You guys are just great.
If you haven't noticed the pattern, stay away from the NFL.
Those are two. The margin is so small. No, great,
go to the college you gave. You said, you know
that in net he picks a good pick.
Speaker 1 (03:12):
I did.
Speaker 2 (03:13):
The Jets is the one, the only that's the only
pick you didn't like, So I should have gone one
in one. But say you'll now stay away from the
Jets for the rest of the season. I will, Oh,
I am tempted, but we'll continue to go ahead.
Speaker 1 (03:22):
They are absolutely horrid. Well, might talk to jury about that.
At eleven o'clock.
Speaker 2 (03:26):
Headlines about you by Frostburg Corse, I choose chill.
Speaker 1 (03:28):
I mentioned the Seahawks and Rams one twenty five Sunday
at Lumenfield on Channel thirteen. Locally, coach Mike McDonald said
this about DK Metcalf's chances to play Sunday.
Speaker 3 (03:38):
Looking optimistic, he hasn't practiced yet, so let's let him
practice and see how he feels before we start making
judgments on the week.
Speaker 4 (03:44):
We're optimistic for this week.
Speaker 1 (03:46):
Of course, Sprain mcl cost Metcalf the chance to play
against Buffalo. I heard the morning show and they also
asked me this morning if Metcalf would have made a difference.
He wouldn't have made a twenty one point difference, and
he wouldn't have stopped Connor Williams from snapping the ball
five yards over Gino Smith's head and on first and
goal at the seven, he wouldn't would not have had
anything to As Mike McDonald said, Metcalf wouldn't even been
(04:07):
on the field on fourth and goal with the one
when Williams stepped on Smith's foot, So the fourteen points
they blew there, Metcalf would have had nothing to do with.
Maybe he catches a deep pass and otherwise very quick passing,
short passing game that Smith had. You know, Hugh mentioned
yesterday Hugh Millan eighty five air yards on twenty one
(04:29):
completions for Gino Smith. Josh Allen had two hundred and
forty air yards, three times as many as Gino Smith had.
Now some of that has to be Ryan Grubb is
compensating for his offensive line and just telling Smith get
rid of the ball. We're running three five yard routes.
You one step throw. That's their way of dealing. The
(04:50):
offensive lines issues permeate everything, run game, what types of
passes they're playing, how much of the playbook they're using.
One for seven on third downs, lowest time of possession
this season, fewest third down conversions this season. You name
it is what happened to them. And I don't think
DK Metcalf would have made as definitive. He wouldn't won
(05:11):
a game if DK Metcalf was another way they played.
Steelers are two to zero scoring points with the Russell
Wilson at quarterback. They beat the Giants last night to
improve the six and two overall on top of the
AFC North. Giants are two and six, and everyone's talking
about this is the Seahawks version of Russell Wilson. Suddenly
we'll see they played the Jets and the Giants under
(05:33):
Russell Wilson so far, so they combined four and twelve
teams he's beaten so far, but hey, he beat the
teams on their schedule. Saunders won ninety minutes plus twelve
more stoppage time plus stoppage time within the stoppage time
because they had a handball review and they still couldn't score.
They even played thirty plus minutes with a man up
when a dude for the Dynamo just went after I mean,
(05:57):
I couldn't believe it was fiolent. Aury finally should the
rep in the stadium scoreboard and tried to kick him
when after elbow in his face, red card, and they
still didn't score up a man for the last thirty
minutes or so.
Speaker 2 (06:10):
So then it went to penalty kicks.
Speaker 1 (06:14):
Four to four into the final kick with Seattle's fifth
and final round, here's what roll Don did.
Speaker 2 (06:20):
The Sounders have one more penalty. If they score this,
they win the game. And it's in the hands and
the right foot of Alex rolled On takes a breath,
steps forward, goes the crowdy ruts and the Sounders win
(06:42):
the first game of the first round of the playoffs.
Speaker 1 (06:48):
Christian roll Done had the fourth round, Alex roll Down
had the fifth round. Sounders didn't miss and I mentioned
the one that Houston yanked in the fourth round, and
that was the difference five to four in penalty kicks.
Game two is in Houston Sunday three thirty on nine
to fifty am. You heard that call last night on
nine to fifty am. Sunday three thirty will be on
nine to fifty am our sister station. Game two in Houston.
(07:11):
Sounders win, they advance, Sounders lose, then they have to
come back for a Game three, which will be at
Lomenfield next week.
Speaker 2 (07:18):
Your free beer comments, Man, maybe they need to be
brought back up just before the playoffs. I don't know.
Maybe I'll run that as a promo or something and
they'll score some goals, hopefully.
Speaker 1 (07:29):
Those of you that cut our show didn't catch our
show at the very beginning back in April, when the
Sounders weren't scoring at all, I mean like months without
scoring it but like a goal a month. I said,
why don't you just give away free beer if they
don't score and then they get refunds. If they do score,
then they pay for the beer. If they don't score,
then they get refunds and it's free. And then then
after I said that they scored fiftive against Montreal, that
(07:51):
was like, oh, they were listening.
Speaker 2 (07:52):
Yeah, you don't want to give off free beer. Huh
so a score.
Speaker 1 (07:54):
There you go. Some fans are really into that idea.
Speaker 2 (07:57):
Though I'm going to every game. This is a great idea.
Speaker 1 (08:01):
Yeah, sixty eight thousand pack of that place. There were
thirty thousand last night at a really energetic crowd in
the Rain. I had a couple of people texting DM
me and stuff saying, was it as loud as the
Seahawks game. No, there were half as many people there,
and there weren't any Buffalo Bills fans there. We're gonna
talk about that in a minute too. Cracking four wins,
four losses in an overtime loss, begin a five game
(08:23):
road trip today at Montreal. Mike Betton pregame show at
three thirty with the puck drop from Montreal. Ever fitzsu
and al COMENCEK get four o'clock here on ninety three
point three kJ R FM. The Dodgers won Game three
of the World Series last night, four to in Yankee Stadium.
LA is up three games to none and the best
of seven. Dodgers can win it all and in the
baseball season tonight and Game four in the Bronx. It's
(08:43):
kind of nice to see the Yankees just get smacked around,
isn't it.
Speaker 2 (08:46):
I remember going up as a kid. I felt as
if they won the World Series every year. Yeah, they did,
and it does feel good to see them just get stumped.
Speaker 1 (08:56):
And they are getting stumped too.
Speaker 2 (08:58):
So yeah, to your point, it's like, Wow, all those
years of winning, they're finally gonna lose cool in the NBA.
Speaker 1 (09:07):
Last night, Chris, your guy, Odey's finest Paalo Bunco. Here's
what he did last night for the Orlando Magic.
Speaker 2 (09:14):
A sais he the love of three pounds. He has
nine assists to go with this, forty four points. Can't
stop it stuck this back out shot put ten Pallo
Ban Carrol.
Speaker 5 (09:30):
He's coming to the lane with a Chapter Tiler game.
Speaker 2 (09:36):
Fifteen points for Palo Bank Carol.
Speaker 1 (09:38):
Look at col Anthony.
Speaker 2 (09:40):
He goes pointing at fifty on his jersey Odai High Schools.
Speaker 1 (09:46):
Palo Buncara fifty points last night in Orlando, record thirty
seven in the first half. Thanks to Valley Sports and
Orlando for that clipton the Magic beat Indiana one nineteen
one fifteen. Your guy scores fifty points and they win
by five by four.
Speaker 2 (10:00):
Yeah, they're a young team. It would be. I think
they're definitely gonna be a team that is in the
playoff hunt. Last year they lost in seven games to
the Cleveland Cavaliers. I think they could actually make it
out of the first round and get into the second round.
They're gonna need a veteran leadership, someone that's been in
the playoffs because they're all young. They're all doing something
never done before, which played playoff basketball. So I do think,
(10:23):
you know, Paulo's taking the next step. He was the
reason why on the Morning Show when we did our
fantasy basketball draft, I picked the Orlando Magic to win
what forty five fifty games, just because Paulo I think
can do that. They just need more leadership, veteran presence,
and I think in the trade deadline, maybe they go
out and bring somebody in who can bring that value
to the young team, because they definitely are a formidable,
(10:46):
formiable unit. That can be a problem for a team
that's also getting their first taste of the playoffs. Whether
that well, actually Atlanta Hawk's not a good example. They've
been to the Eastern Conference finals. But I do like
what Paulo's been doing. I think he's gonna be an
All Star season. He has the potential to do that.
Speaker 1 (11:02):
It's his, his jersey's number hanging in the rafters.
Speaker 2 (11:05):
I don't think so. Probably not yet. I think it
will be, that's for sure. It definitely will be, without
a question. I just don't know how long that process is.
It might be next year. I do not know, but
I think it's coming soon if it's not already. Does
he come back to a day?
Speaker 1 (11:19):
Has he been?
Speaker 2 (11:19):
I don't know. I'm sure he has. I haven't been
back to a day and in a minute, I think
it's been like not be.
Speaker 1 (11:25):
Giving any money or that's the way that works, right,
You ready for your checks? You're welcome back in the time.
Speaker 2 (11:32):
I always go back during the basketball season. It's just indoors,
and I'm always there for that. I will always go
back to watch the games. But I haven't been back
around in the in school per se in years. But
they've been like, hey, when you're popping up, like one
of these days, man, I will definitely pop back up.
Speaker 1 (11:49):
We should do a show from an O day basketball day,
a game. Yeah, well, I mean they won't probably play
a game and tend to noon on well doing it,
but we should do that. We should go take the
show over to Oday High School. Oh, they would love it.
They wouldn't mind kidding me. That would be great. I'm
trying to think, let's do that.
Speaker 2 (12:05):
We could, I could, I could figure something out that
would be cool. Go back to the old stocking ground.
Speaker 1 (12:09):
But let's start two weeks mid November high school basketball begins.
Speaker 2 (12:13):
Actually I want to say December.
Speaker 1 (12:15):
Oh, they don't start to December.
Speaker 2 (12:17):
Yeah, December, like right after the state Oh right football players, Yeah, exactly,
so right after state football. The first week in December
is usually when the season starts. So I'd be down
for it.
Speaker 1 (12:27):
Yeah, let's go take a show out to Day High School.
That sounds good to me.
Speaker 2 (12:32):
I've never been in that gym.
Speaker 1 (12:34):
Oh it's nice.
Speaker 2 (12:34):
Yeah it's not. I know it's small wants, it's fit,
but they make it work. We haven't had for for example, well,
Mirchael Porter Junior came with Nathan Hill sold out. You know,
it was packed, people are standing up. We make it work.
It all works out at the end of the day.
It's a nice gym. Phil lunkin gym. So it'd be
great to go back and do something cool like that.
Speaker 1 (12:56):
We will do that at sixteen for twenty six from
the field last night for Pawel Mantero, and.
Speaker 2 (13:01):
It was like, kid, have you seen Polo? I was like, nah, Bro,
I'm kind of running your should right now. What's up?
He's like he got forty seven or thirty seventy scoop
at the Yes Say Birthday. He was killing.
Speaker 1 (13:14):
This is his third pro season course after he went
to Duke and start there. Last night was one hundred
and fifty six NBA game tys his career high with
fifty when to make sure we got the shout out
to Polo Ben carol O Day High School. Washington Huski's
four and four after losing in Indiana. They host usc
Saturday four thirty here on ninety three point three KJRFM
and the Big Ten Network. Washington State football is seven
(13:35):
to one ranked twenty second day of the week off
and they host Utah State on November ninth at Pullman.
You need to get over there too, by the way.
Speaker 2 (13:43):
Man, that's one place I probably just I'll just watch
them TV that drive.
Speaker 5 (13:47):
Man.
Speaker 2 (13:47):
I'm old. Now, I'm like, what am I going back
out there for? Bro? You know, I watch a game,
but I can watch it on my couch. Man's I
know that drive is long, Greag. I know I've got
it well once every other month. If tickets were cheaper,
I would definitely just fly if it was like ninety
nine bucks to fly there.
Speaker 1 (14:02):
That's the thing. They've extended the airport at Pullman, but
they still only have two flights a day, and they're
always sold out, and they're always if you do find
a seat, they're so expensive.
Speaker 2 (14:10):
Exactly, you lose, lose. You want to get out there
in forty five minutes, it cost five hundred dollars. Like,
what come on?
Speaker 1 (14:16):
Last I had some flights to Pullman. Something knows the
whole west side of Washington tied to the KUG. I mean, yeah,
there are three more flights in there.
Speaker 2 (14:26):
Yeah, I agree. I'm spaight human.
Speaker 1 (14:29):
When the last time of your.
Speaker 2 (14:30):
Back, well, my friend graduated in two thousand and sixteen,
maybe with whoa, I graduated in sixteen, So my friend
graduated twenty eighteen sow eighteen six years?
Speaker 1 (14:40):
Yeah? Wow, Yeah, you wouldn't re recognize the campus in
the two years my son's been there at the campus.
Speaker 2 (14:45):
I can only imagine because when I went back in
two thousand and eight.
Speaker 1 (14:47):
And I was like, damn, the building they've done, and
they got a new indoor practice facility for the football
team now, and the academic buildings are new.
Speaker 2 (14:54):
And because I remember they had the bubble, Yes, the
bubble is gone, so that's good that they have added
in that. He got eight facility because the bubble was
where they used to practice during you know, when it's
a terrible weather, just go go to the bubble. So okay,
that's cool. The baseball has.
Speaker 1 (15:07):
An indoor new facility as well.
Speaker 2 (15:09):
It's really nice, right, yeah, well, shoot mine who high School?
Speaker 1 (15:12):
Brand new hotels right behind Beasley Coliseum, brand new apartments
back there. It's like fourteen fifteen hundred was a month by.
Speaker 2 (15:19):
Back in my day exactly.
Speaker 1 (15:21):
He wouldn't even recognize apartment land now. It's so Brandon's
back there.
Speaker 2 (15:25):
Sounds exciting though.
Speaker 1 (15:26):
And all right, I'm not supposed to talk Koogs this much.
That's see in Finnessa's job, right. All right, I'll reiterate
Husky's four thirty pregame shows at twelve thirty on Saturday
day of Savtymorrow and the Husky honks from Husky Citium
in the zone. They play USC at four point thirty,
a battle of four and three teams with two and
three records in the Big Ten coming up. I'm gonna
talk Mike McDonald. Yesterday he said something on his Coaches
(15:48):
Show that kind of flew under the radar but really
struck me. I wrote a whole story about it in
the News Tribune. I asked him about it yesterday afternoon.
He said on the Coaches Show, it may be time
to accept quote sunk costs on things they don't do
well and just dump those and focus more on what
the Seahawks do well. So then in the afternoon press conference,
I asked, and what are those sunk costs and what
(16:10):
is it that you do well after losing four to
the last five games. His answer next on ninety three
point three KJRFM, you mentioned this morning me at the
point of the season of identifying sunk cost and also, ye,
what you're honing in on something? What are you good
at to hone in on right now? What do you
think you can hang your head on.
Speaker 3 (16:27):
I mean, I think you got to talk about in
different phases. I mean to start with offense. I think
one thing that gives us an edge is how we
move and shift in formation and very tempos I think
that's something that we need to double down on. Then
we'll do that. I think the run game can come
alive in some of those things. Special teams. I think
we're a heck of a coverage team right now. We've
got some really good tape of guys making a lot
of great plays in the coverage areas and defensively situationally,
(16:50):
I think we have done some good things.
Speaker 4 (16:52):
It does seem it's a little hot and cold right now.
Speaker 3 (16:53):
Our per game basic excuse me, I mean the red
zone and third down SATs last game. But on the
whole I feel like we've made a jump in those areas.
So there's a lot of good stuff on tape. But
you know, you come off a loss like that, and
you know, you get punched in the chin. You got
to take it and you got to move forward.
Speaker 5 (17:07):
The sun costs, have you identify what does there?
Speaker 4 (17:10):
I wouldn't get in specifics right now.
Speaker 3 (17:11):
I probably can't give them all to you, but that's
something we're going to be looking at.
Speaker 1 (17:19):
Yeah, Mike McDonald was too wise there to just list,
oh yeah, here the sun costs that we're just going
to ignore now. So the rams and the forty nine
ers and everybody else we play don't even have to
pay attention to that part of our game film anymore.
So I didn't expect him to say that, but Bard
in the answer there, he did say a couple of
things on what they do well that he wants to
start capitalizing on. If you noticed, he said prestab shifts
(17:39):
in motion and as you mentioned yesterday, Chris, and pace
changing pace on offense meaning more no huddle. And you
can reiterate it again, Chris, But why you think the
motion and the snaps and pre snap shifting and motion
is really helping in Seattle?
Speaker 2 (17:57):
I think it really helps him just because of what
they're asking of the offensive lineman. This team is. When
you look at these linemen, they're not the best at
getting in front of guys and moving them. I remember
early on this season Mike McDonald talked about we are
not getting push. The line is not moving. So your
next step is, okay, if the line's not moving, can
we get guys in motion to move? And that's why
(18:19):
I brought in, excuse me, the twelve and thirteen personnel
using more tight ends to help with the run game,
because now you have five offensive linemen, two or three
tight ends, and now you can you can move these
guys instead of having the offensive line trying to move
as much. You use your tight ends as that crutch saying, Okay,
these tight ends can do a really good job of blocking.
I think Pharol Brown's a solid run blocker. I think
(18:40):
Aj Barner is a really good run blocker. He has
found himself playing more and more often, which is why
people are probably not seeing no offense on the field
as much. And I think Ryan Grubbs is gonna have
to make the tough decision here. Okay, do I keep
Aj Barner in the game with Pharaoh Brown and we
run the football using motion, and that can be the
motion that everyone has seen a lot of, which is
(19:01):
before the snap and a shotgun. Gina will bring a
guy in motion and it'll be a lead blocker, it'll
be a tight end. It could be Jake Bobo. Hell,
you can start using DK because he is so physical
and strong. I don't see a problem. Why not, especially
when you win to run the football. And another player
that stood out to me that I've talked about at
nauseum is the orbit motion of Ken Walker starting at
(19:21):
right out the line of scrimmage, as a quote unquote
tight end and then he goes in motion behind the snap.
You have Zach Charburney also in the game along with
another tight end, and Zach Charburney is, in theory your
lead blocker. That worked out. Unfortunately, Charbonne was fine. You say,
Greg fifty grand, forty grand, something crazy like that, So
he's gonna have to figure out, Hey, you can't lower
your head on these blocks. But that is something I
(19:44):
want to see more of. Into Mike McDonald's point, Yeah,
using motion and then tempo. Now, when they did go temple,
it was against teams that they destroyed in New England.
Patriots Temple worked out really well. The Dolphins tempo worked
really well. But the problem is they start playing from
behind and now that Temple could create errors. You're more
prone to make mistakes when you're moving fast and trying
(20:05):
to catch up, and that's where the problem lies because
they're not running the football well yet. They want to
use motion and use it in the passing game, but
I think they need to focus that and try to
do it more in the run game because I think
with their tight ends that they have, I think those
Titans can really assist in the run game, and I'm
hoping that they go to that. And that's something Shane
Waldron did. They ran a hell of a lot of
(20:27):
thirteen and twelve personnel when he was here, and they
did a lot of passing out of that as well,
play action passing. Kobe what was his name, Parkinson, He was
big on certain situations when they had twelve or thirteen personnel,
play action pass to him down the field, even Will
Disley when he was healthy, so and Noah Fan as well.
So I think he might have to try to do that,
(20:47):
which unfortunately, Yeah, it does take away from targets from
your DKs and Tyler, but if you are winning games
and you were playing with the lead, now you put
yourself in better position to execute anything else you would
like to run.
Speaker 1 (20:59):
Ryan grab His said he's a big believer in play
action pass starting with a run game. And there's some
analytics arguments that you really don't need a run game
to play action. But that's not how Ryan Grubb thinks,
that's not how Mike McDonald thinks. That's something I say
when I watch games, I watch how teams defend Seattle.
I keep thinking of that fourth down that Brian Banks
and the Giants had at fourth and one in Seattle's
own end when McDonald just desperately went for it, knowing
(21:22):
his defense couldn't stop the Giants anymore. And Banks didn't
even consider the play action. Remember that, Yeah, he just
ran straight to Gino Smith and sacked him. It was
like nothing else was happening. He didn't even look at
the play action to serbona sack, turnover, run downs, game over.
That's the difference between play action with or without a
running game. About the no huddle, they tried it a
(21:42):
little bit against Buffalo too. Problem is if you false
start or get a sack, you can't know huddle. I'd
second and fifteen or third nineteen, And that's what's happened
so often to this offense. They get the negative plays.
You have to get first downs and create a rhythm
for them to go off no huddle. Also, oh, what
they try to do is a lot of teams and
(22:03):
the Seahawks have done this as well and done it
to their advantage. Third down team defense brings in their
defensive sub packages nickel or dime, and they bring in
their pass rushers and they bring in their extra small
defensive backs. You get a first down against that, then
you go no huddle. Why you don't substitute, and you
go no huddle so that the defense can't substitute, and
then you're an early down run situation against their nickel,
(22:27):
dime and pass rushers. That's when the pat the no
huddle really works, and so that's what Grub wants to do.
Speaker 2 (22:33):
He wants to run no huddle after first downs.
Speaker 1 (22:35):
And then run the ball and then have Kenneth Walker
or if it was a third down play and they
had sharbon Ay and run Charbonay against that light package
of nickel and dime defensive backs and pass rushers.
Speaker 2 (22:46):
But when you don't get.
Speaker 1 (22:47):
First downs, you go one for seven on third down conversions,
you can't run no huddle. So that's what McDonald's talking about.
He says, we've got to focus and hone in on
things we're doing well, pace and motion. They got to
limate their own mistakes to get into those situations to
run motion and run no huddle and run the things
that they're successful at. They get some no huddle going
(23:09):
in some third down conversions, then you're going to catch
them in some run light defenses and then you can
run the ball and all of a sudden, you run
off six seven yard run on first down because you
went no huddle against a nickel or dime package. And
now you've got a run game, and now all of
a sudden, the defense has to honor that. And then
when you do sub they bring in run defenders and
then you throw and then you play action pack. That's
(23:30):
how the rhythm and yang and yang in the offense
is supposed to work. But man, when you're getting holding sacks, fumbles,
snaps twenty yards over your head, you can't do any
of that stuff. And that is what I mean. Until
they get out of their own way, they won't be
able to do any of those things. But it was
interesting for McDonald to say, the learning part's now starting
(23:50):
to end.
Speaker 2 (23:51):
Here's what happened. First few months of the season, or
first few months of the offseason.
Speaker 1 (23:55):
He's just learning how to be a head coach, how
to train, how to practice schedules, how he wants to
conduct things, learning his new environment, learning his bosses, learning
and finding a home for his family. Then in training camp,
he was learning his players. First time head coach, never
been a head coach at any level before thirty seven
years old. Okay, now he's had eight games. He's learned
(24:15):
what they are good at doing, what they're not good
at doing, what players are good at, what players aren't
good at, what players are going to help them, what
players might not, and well, learn how to communicate with
within the coaching staff during the game, during the week,
game plan. All that stuff is learning. And to me
his comments yesterday, Chris word, the learning is about to end.
I'm going to start making decisions on what I've learned
(24:36):
we're good at doing. We're going to focus on that
and start cutting away things that, as he called it,
sunk costs. Now Chuck and Buck asked me this morning
if sunk costs meant Draymond Jones, some of these rich
contracts they have, sinking those and just saying weren't done
with No. I didn't think. I didn't take him literally
as sunk costs of contracts because McDonald is so into
(24:57):
the eaches of strategy and of person l and of
looks and of trying to scrape the linebacker into the
right hole and to try to get the A and
B gap control. I mean, he's into those eaches that
he's not thinking about Draymond Jones's contract that's John Schneider
and his personnel staffs problem, which has become the whole
team's problem, for instance in that case. But I didn't
(25:17):
take McDonald to mean that because he's not in that world.
Pete Carroll was as the executive vice president of all
football Operations. He was in that world, and he had
half a mind about contracts and free agency and trades.
McDonald is not that way at all. McDonald's in the
the Microsoft tablet's surface between series, and I mean he
(25:39):
is all about ball. So I didn't take him meaning
sunk costs, about the contracts and about players that he
I thought he was talking about, We're going to start
discarding things that we are not good at, which brings
up the run game. Is the running rushing offense a
sunk costs and he says no, He said absolutely not.
We are going to be a run team. He's going
to take a while, but we are going to be
(26:01):
a run team. He said that again yesterday. He said
he's intent on making sure that that is the identity
of this team. Whether it takes this season and next
season to do it, we'll find out. He also Chris
said something that was pretty interesting, and he kind of
said it under his breath. He said, it's not about
the x's and o's. Ultimately, it's not about the x's
(26:22):
and o's. What's that mean. I mean, it's about the players.
But he was quick to note he did not name names.
He did not single out anybody, and even he never does.
Speaker 2 (26:31):
EDI wants to. Of course, he sees the film I'm
watching like got Lee man.
Speaker 1 (26:35):
Of course he does, but he's not going to. Not
out of the thirty seven year old first time head,
he goes, he's not going to do that. But he
said it's not the Ultimately, it's not about the x's
and o's, and and I thought that was a telling
comment to say, it's about the players executing.
Speaker 2 (26:49):
So that we can do the x's and o's that
we have. We've heard that before, haven't we? Sure have,
he said. He said, it's frustrating.
Speaker 1 (26:56):
I'm paraphrasing here because I'm going through my story trying
to find the exact quote, but I'm paraphrasing when he said,
it's frustrating to know you have the schemes to help,
but you can't get to them because of all the
mistakes and execution. He also said, I think the run
game can come alive. We're gonna get it figured out.
(27:17):
I mean, we're gonna be a good run team, gonna
have an efficient offense. I do feel like I'm a
little bit of a broken record every week, but I
do feel optimistic talking to coaches and watching the tape.
We're gonna get this thing rolling. I think once you
have compliment getting to run game going with all the
other mechanisms we have in our offense and our system,
and all of our skill guys in the way Gino's
throwing the ball, I think it could be a really
(27:39):
potent attack. That's Mike McDonald yesterday not lumping the rushing
offense and the run game in with this quote sunk
cost that they may start going away from four nine
four y five one and tell them we'll do text
line your reaction to that about Mike McDonald, you starting
now from the learning and evaluating to the assessment stage
of his system eight games into his first year as
(27:59):
Seahawks head coach. One in four to five on. We'll
reback your text and tell them or to tech sign when.
Speaker 2 (28:05):
We come back. Gino Smith commented about what the home.
Speaker 1 (28:08):
Environment sounded like on Sunday kind of interesting what he
had to say. We'll talk about that next on ninety
three point three KJRFM.
Speaker 2 (28:24):
Welcome back to the Great Belt Show with Christopher Caddy.
Speaker 1 (28:26):
Here on ninety three point three KJRFM eleven o'clock our
weekly visit with Joey Epstein, the senior NFL writer for
Yahoo's Sports. We talk about all things across the league
and there's tons to get to. News today in Indianapolis
that the Colts are benching Anthony Richardson. Adam Schefner among
the first to report that about a half twenty minutes ago.
(28:48):
The Colts are going to venturea justin him Joey Flacco.
Joe Flacco, the ageless one who helped Cleveland win last year,
is now going to help Indianapolis win. The Colts think
they're going to bench Richardson the fourth over we're all
pick in last year's draft. That some people around the
Seahawks told me the Seahawks were very interested in drafting
last year. If the Colts had not, he's getting benched
(29:10):
where it is in Indianapolis. That's according to Adam Scheffner.
Texans wide receiver Stefan Diggs tore his acl on Sunday
versus the Colts. According to reports, his season is over
after the trade from Buffalo. And meanwhile, the Bills have
reloaded with Amari Cooper and are rolling on at six
(29:30):
and two and way up in the AFC East. So
that's your news from the NFL here. In the last
fifteen minutes or so on Sunday, the Seahawks lost for
they've had thirty the last thirty home games. It lost
for the fifteenth time. They're fifteen and fifteen at Lumenfield.
I think it's safe to say that the home field
advantage is gone now. A lot of that is not
(29:52):
the stadium, but the players who play in the stadium.
What made Lumenfield is good and is great, and the
home field advantage as good as it was and Lumenfield
intimidating was the fact that they had Jimmies and Joe's
who were better than anybody else's who came in here.
Not so anymore, obviously. Another trend that happened on Sunday.
I looked out at the beginning of the game and
(30:14):
there were a ton of red and blue in the
lower section and one hundred level, just like there wasn't
San Francis when the forty nine ers came on a
Thurday night game in San Francisco. Read in that first section,
just like there was in New Year's Eve last year
with Pittsburgh came in here, there were so many terrible
towels it looked like the Monongahela and the Allegheny form
of the Ohio River down in Soto on New Year's Eve.
(30:38):
It has been a trend for the last year plus.
Noticeably that the one hundred level behind, especially behind the
visitor's bench directly opposite of me in the press box,
is full of visiting players, now of visiting fans. Those
people aren't season ticket holders, which is what that level is.
The season ticket holders, the Seahawks season ticket holders for
which they brag about and rightly so, and they have
(30:59):
a list to get on. They're selling their seats to
out of town fans, plain and simple and profiting and
probably getting a percentage back on their entire season cost
in one or two games. Gino Smith talked about this
after the game on Sunday. This is what he said.
Speaker 5 (31:16):
I think it's a much different game, you know, But
hats off to Buffalo. They came in, they beat us
at home. Their fans traveled well, real loud, and there
kind of felt like we were on the road at TOM.
So they came out, they fought, they beat us, and
we can say we made mistakes, but they capitalized and
so those are things that we got to get better at.
We got a big week ahead. So tom is now.
Speaker 1 (31:36):
We play that to tell you that the players notice,
they notice the fans that are behind the visiting bench,
They notice how many people in Seattle are rooting for
the other team. But when you lose half your home games,
Chris over a four year span, well what do they expect?
I mean, if you're charging fans hundreds of dollars one
hundred hundreds of dollars a game, not to mention part
(32:00):
working and concessions and the season tickets whole second season
ticket prices as they are in the NFL, and your
team's not winning, and you can profit handsomely a few
hundred dollars per ticket per game. I don't think I can.
I can criticize the Seahawk fan for doing that, but
it is still a statement of fact to say that
Seahawk fans season ticket holders are profiteering on the team's
(32:22):
lack of success At home by selling to the visiting team.
Speaker 2 (32:26):
And I can tell you this.
Speaker 1 (32:27):
It didn't happen during the Legion of Boom days when
they were going to the Super Bowl and that stadium
was rocking and it was almost entirely of Seahawk fans.
But as the team has started to lose, fans have
started to done the calculation. Wait a minute, you're going
to cost a couple thousand dollars to have this season
ticket for the entire year, and I can make a
few hundred on this one game by selling it to
(32:48):
a Buffalo Bills or a Steelers or a forty nine
Ers fan. Maybe I'll do that instead of sitting in
the rain and watch them lose again by twenty one points.
Speaker 2 (32:55):
Well, they've lost what three straight home games since the Giants,
so right, you and the Giants game was just awful.
So if you're a fan and you saw that, you're
looking on the schedule thinking, and that was in the sun.
The Niners are coming to town? Do I want to
see that? Behind whooping? I'll probably sell my tickets. Ah,
the Bills are coming to town. Do I really want
to go watch Josh brain and win? Yeah? So I understand.
(33:20):
I'm not taking anything away from fans not wanting to
watch that. I could see if it was a close game,
which is still depending on the team, is probably that's
where it depends. For instance, the Broncos, I don't think
fans expected to be that close. I know I didn't.
But they won, so that's intriguing. So you want to
go watch the game. But if you're thinking of the mindset, ooh,
(33:43):
they play the Rams, that should be a close game.
It shouldn't be like we saw last season week one
when they opened up and the Rams came in here
and did whatever they wanted. So I would expect more
Seyawk fans to be at the game. But again, they've
also just lost at home, so do they really want
to come out against the Rams like it's there's a
lot more building up on the losses than there is
(34:04):
with the wins. And even with the wins, the last
win was what the Falcons on the road a met
team in the NFL. How are you feeling as a fan?
Are you willing to put that money down and go
watch the Rams come to Seattle with Pooka Nukula healthy,
Cooper Cup healthy.
Speaker 1 (34:24):
Here's another thing that's made it easier for fans season
ticket orders to sell their tickets.
Speaker 2 (34:28):
The proliferation proliferation.
Speaker 1 (34:30):
Of online selling of secondary market of tickets is driven
up the prices because now the market has expanded, exploded,
stuff hub and see geek and Craigslist and who knows
what else everyone goes for tickets anymore. It used to
be you had to stand out on the corner and
sell your ticket. You had to go to the game
if you're a season ticket holder, or find someone to
go for you and sell the tickets on a street.
Speaker 2 (34:51):
Corner to bang for your body and get your own price.
Speaker 1 (34:53):
But now the market sets itself online and all you
have to do is click online and enter that forum,
and you were entered into the market. And it's really
easy to sell your tickets from your living room or
your office or wherever.
Speaker 2 (35:06):
So I get it.
Speaker 1 (35:08):
So I guess the answer to Gino Smith And everybody's saying, well,
it felt like a road game.
Speaker 2 (35:12):
When when when?
Speaker 1 (35:14):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (35:14):
When home games? Yeah, you're owing the last few weeks
owing three man not not not great, not great, loss
of the Giants got packed up by the Niners and
you got your teeth kicked in by the Bills. Who
wants to see that.
Speaker 1 (35:28):
I get that. I guess as a fan you could
try to ensure you sold tickets to see Seahawks fans.
But how do you know for sure?
Speaker 2 (35:35):
Know if it's online, some guy comes up to you, Hey, man,
I'll take a thousand for the tickets. I really want
to go to the game.
Speaker 1 (35:40):
You're not gonna say, are you a Seahawks who's Jim Zorn,
who's Dan Dory?
Speaker 2 (35:44):
Yeah, you're You're not gonna put in through it now.
If you're worried about that, maybe try to give it
to your friends who are also Seahawk fans. Try to
keep it in that community. Maybe you have a friend
that would love to go. I mean, obviously you probably
have a bunch of friends that are Seahawk fans, so
with the chances, but I'm sure you could find a
way if you are a a ticket holder, to find
someone that is quote unquote a Seak fan to give
it to. But at the same time, you're not checking
(36:05):
for that, right, you're online selling tickets whoever wants them
there you go, yeh.
Speaker 1 (36:09):
To reiterate, we're not telling fans how to fan the
team doing. The team needs to win if they want
home games to fit sound and look like home games.
Speaker 2 (36:17):
TJ call its on. All I do is win, win, win,
no matter what. Yeah, win.
Speaker 1 (36:22):
If you want a home fit advantage, win.
Speaker 2 (36:26):
Gino knows exactly, He's not wrong, but you gotta win.
We play to win the game.
Speaker 1 (36:33):
Fortnite four or five. I already see the reactions to
this on the text line. We'll read those back at
