thanks a lot for joining us. Happy Friday to you,
(04:08):
Football Friday, to you.
Speaker 2 (04:10):
Happy football Friday, Big Football Friday. With a one as
the eye.
Speaker 1 (04:16):
I think you have the biggest game in college football.
Tomorrow is certainly a marquee primetime East Coast game and
sold out mont Lake how just looking forward to the environment.
Are you sold out Husky Stadium tomorrow night?
Speaker 3 (04:29):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (04:29):
I mean that's always to me. You know, every day
you get to do the job is a great day,
but those days are dream days when you get to,
you know, get in that kind of environment, and I
think it. I think all seventy thousand people feel that way,
or else they wouldn't pay all the money they pay
to be there, you know, like it's just it's special,
(04:50):
and you know, I think I think that. It's It's
interesting because you get certain opponents in early in the
season and you're kind of like, you know, Okay, this
is beautiful. It's picturesque, the weather's nice and all this stuff,
and it's like a different experience. And then you get
like an Oregon like last October fourteenth, you get a
Michigan like we're gonna have tomorrow, and then it's just
(05:13):
like a different it's a whole different deal. It's like
it's like going, you know, to the symphony early in
the season and then going to a heavy metal concert.
Speaker 1 (05:23):
Like it is.
Speaker 2 (05:23):
It is a different deal. And I just know it's
a purple out. Everybody wear your purple and it's it's
gonna be loud and a lot of fun.
Speaker 4 (05:32):
Tony and claim Cleveland will have their purple on. I'm
sure in the press box tomorrow. Yeah, seventy thousand people
for Washington Michigan four thirty kickoff with Tony on the
call here on ninety three point three Kids RFM. Will
Rogers Tony he's got no interceptions through five games.
Speaker 1 (05:46):
He's very efficient with the ball. Yet Jonah Coleman to me,
see when I watched the Huskies, I'm like can you
just give the ball to Jonah Coleman for about twenty
plays in a row. He's that electric? Where's the balance
in Washington's offense? Where do you think the optimal balance
is as good as Will Rodgers has been with the
football with Coleman running?
Speaker 2 (06:05):
So I actually think the optimal balance is where it
is right now. And you could say that literally in
the fact that the team is forty nine point nine
percent run fifty point one percent.
Speaker 1 (06:16):
Past right now.
Speaker 2 (06:17):
Also that's pretty balance, but also figuratively, just in trying
to get what works, you know, this is not this
is not last year's NFL offensive line with a whole
bunch of just maulers up there that can kind of
enforce their will. They are still kind of coming together.
They've had some knicks and bruises, as all offensive lines do,
(06:39):
and so they had to swap out the starter at
left tackle from the beginning of the year, and they
brought in Max McCree, who just did not play much
football for family reasons over the last couple of years,
and so he's still kind of coming up to speed
and you just can't, you know, go up against these big, physical,
big ten defenses and just say all right, we're coming
at you. You know, it just doesn't work if you
(07:00):
go that way. So you do have to kind of
keep them guessing a little bit off balance, and and
I think that's when the run game becomes more effective.
I think they've they've done a really nice job of
moving the football. That is not the problem with this team.
The problem has been more along the lines of figuring
out ways to finish drives and not shoot yourself in
the foot with untimely mistakes and penalties. And so that's
(07:24):
where this team needs to grow. And if they grow,
they could be pretty good. I mean they've I actually
they're actually better over the course of four quarters than
I thought they were going to be at this point
in the in the rebuild. They are competitive now, it's
just a matter of cleaning up some of those mistakes.
Speaker 1 (07:41):
You mean team wide, are on the offensive line better
than the rebuilding.
Speaker 2 (07:45):
Team wise team WI Yeah, for sure, But that includes
the offensive line.
Speaker 1 (07:49):
Right.
Speaker 5 (07:50):
Dbs Man. They are playing some sticky coverage out there,
I think their third and the Big ten and passive
defense and also interceptions. What have What has impressed you
about this secondary despite everything that's gone on all the movement,
all the changing pieces from last season that.
Speaker 2 (08:07):
Is well there. Yes, their passes defense number is really high,
and that's even more impressive because they're not going up
against a lot of pass attempts right now. They're playing
a lot of teams that want to run the football,
and so I think that's an even more impressive number
within that context. But yeah, I think they've just done
a nice job of First of all, it's interesting to
(08:29):
run a three man rotation at the two corner positions,
but they've been doing that with You've got three really
good veterans, Elijah Jackson, the hero of the Sugar Bowl
last year, Thaddeus Dixon, the JUCO transfer from Long Beach
Community College who has just probably got the best ball
skills of the group. And then Ephesians price Log transfers
up from Arizona and has got the most length and
(08:50):
has been really good, you know, in man coverage or
however they.
Speaker 1 (08:54):
Want to use it.
Speaker 2 (08:55):
Also, they move those pieces around. I mean, I think
it's about the success of the secondary's unit and more
just about within Steve Belichick's defense. You know, how he
moves guys around from position to position, his ability to
kind of scheme up a defense that is going to
(09:16):
be capable of getting stopped. I'm just looking at the
yards they've allowed by game so far this year. You know,
Washington State had three eighty one on them. That was
with a couple of big scrambles from the tier. You know,
no one else has has gotten the three hundred yards.
And that's now. They haven't gone against the best offenses yet,
(09:37):
right those are coming. But for this weekend's purpose, I
think this defense is going to be up to a
challenge against. You're talking about a secondary that's got sticky coverage.
Michigan doesn't want to throw the football now, you know,
so I think you're gonna want They don't want any
part of it. I mean it's been it's gone poorly
(09:57):
for them when they try it, So I wouldn't be
surprised to see them kind of rely on that secondary
in man's situations and just see how many guys they
can bring up to the box and try to force
Michigan to get uncomfortable.
Speaker 5 (10:12):
I wish I asked this question first, because I went
from all serious football talk to now I'm gonna have
a little fun. Last Friday, we had on Danny o'new
and we got knowledge that he was going to actually
be your spotter against against the Rutgers. So I want
to know how how'd that go? How did Danny do?
Did he live up to the hype or was he like,
oh my goodness, man, we can't have this again, Danny.
Speaker 2 (10:33):
You know, it's funny you asked that Danny did a
fantastic job. Nice.
Speaker 1 (10:37):
What else to say? He's a nice guy.
Speaker 5 (10:40):
Tony could have been like, you know, he struggled early,
but he picked it up in the second half.
Speaker 1 (10:43):
But continue, Tony.
Speaker 2 (10:45):
No, here, here's the real, honest to goodness story, Danny.
Danny did a great job. You can tell his man
the press box a lot. He's very quick with you know,
he's got a great eye for it. He did a
great job I coming up, you know, particular before I
got to Washington. When you're calling football games, you just
need any help, Like a warm body next to you
(11:06):
is helpful. So I have actually recruited my best friend,
my best man in my wedding and did the American
Conference championship game with me. When I was on Serious XM,
it was like Temple at Navy, and I just remember,
like time and again, a play would wrap up and
I'm asking him to point out the tackler for me.
(11:27):
And I turned to him and he's just shrugging his
shoulder and like, you're in the headlight look, and I'm like,
you're the worst I've ever seen this job ever. I
love you.
Speaker 1 (11:36):
You're my best friend. Never again.
Speaker 2 (11:39):
I'll get you a ticket. Go tailgate, go drink beer.
Get out of this press box.
Speaker 4 (11:43):
Right.
Speaker 1 (11:44):
I'm sorry you have to go through that, Tony, and
you still got the Washington job. That's how good you are. Tony.
Speaker 2 (11:54):
That game on my takee.
Speaker 1 (11:56):
Smart man not to mention it was Navy. I'm sorry
you had to go there. But Tony, guys going to
play by play announcer the man in football and men's
basketball here in ninety three point three KJRFM. Denzel Boston, Sir,
he's got seven touchdowns, second among receivers, leading in the country.
What has his been It seems man's own. How teams
(12:17):
are playing him, He's still succeeding down the field. When
you say they have to finish drives, the one guy
that seems to finish drives is Denzel Boston.
Speaker 2 (12:25):
So you know the thing that is really interesting about
this team. So I'll get to Denzel Boston in a moment,
but you know, let's let's wipe out the Weaver State game.
That's an FCS opponent. In the last four games against
FDS opponents, they've scored ten touchdowns. Eight of those touchdowns
have been from twelve yards or further out. So they're
(12:46):
they're they're actually if they they want to kind of
get into the end zone over the top with some
of those shot plays because that works. And we saw
Denzel Boston do that from fifty one yards out early
in the second half against Rutgers. He caught the twelve
yarder to keep him in the ball game late in
the fourth quarter on last Friday night as well. And
so Denzel Boston, what makes him great is just his
(13:11):
frame is just perfect for the position he's playing at
the X. I mean, he's six ' four, he's long,
he's got great hands, had a great catch that he
kind of tipped to himself on that big fourth down
play on the final drive last week as well. You know,
and he's a guy that's just been waiting his time
and been the understudy of one of the best to
(13:31):
ever do it at Washington and Roma dunesday right, So
he has not you know the fact that he's kind
of like his first year playing. He's not a rookie
at this right. Like he's been there making plays in practice,
learning from a Doomsday and Kolk and McMillan and all
these guys, and now it's just his time to shine.
And I think everybody on the inside kind of felt
(13:53):
like this is a year that Denzel Boston is going
to just absolutely break out in a huge way. And
it's because he was of the quality that he could
have been contributing had he not been sitting behind three
NFL wide receivers.
Speaker 1 (14:06):
The rare homegrown college football player these days who actually
comes up in a program, it's good to see.
Speaker 2 (14:13):
Well you say that, you know, you look at Michigan
and I mean you talk about a team that just
recruits everywhere, Like I don't know how many states they've got,
but I'm looking at like Idaho. You know that's where
Colton Loveland's from. Yes, it's from Idaho's you got a
kid from Bellevue, they got Massachusetts, they got I mean,
they got to have thirty five states on the roster.
Speaker 1 (14:35):
That's all Boston from Emerald Urch High School. He's a
South hill Pell guy Tony Casher going with us on
the Beacon Plumbing highline. I gotta ask you, I know,
Rutgers is everyone thinks, well, Rutgers are no good. Rutgers
is a former team with a great running back and
a good running game. But come on, Washington goes to
the National championship game, you go into Rutgers. They had
to be stunning the Huskies that they don't win that game.
(14:57):
How do you see them reacting to that? What's the
tone around the team coming off that loss?
Speaker 2 (15:04):
You know, I think just disappointed that they let one
get away. And I think it's got way less to
do than the uh It's got way less to do
with the brand that they were going against and more
to do with how thoroughly they dominated the game. Right,
you do that against anybody, that's going to just be
very disappointing. And so, you know, I think it was
(15:26):
a tough day or two after that game, but they've
bounced back and I felt like practice had pretty good
energy on Tuesday and on Thursday when I checked it out,
and I think they know, I think they're starting to
get a sense that like the positive spin on this.
If you're a coach is you guys are better than
you thought you were, and now like, let's clean up
(15:48):
these couple of things and you could be really good.
And let's start this weekend with the number ten team
in the country coming to town. And it's not like
Michigan has thrived west of the Rocky, like they've done
that four times this cent.
Speaker 1 (16:02):
I saw your tweet on that. Go ahead and elaborate
on that. I was about to bring that up.
Speaker 2 (16:06):
Yeah, twenty fifteen at Utah and then early in the century, UCLA, Oregon,
and Washington all got them. So like people say, how
hard it's going to be for Washington and all these
West coast programs to travel east. I think it's harder
to travel west absolutely. You know, look at Miami, Florida
(16:27):
is going to be playing a game at ten thirty
Eastern time in Berkeley. Know, like, how do you think they're.
Speaker 1 (16:34):
Going to react to Did you see I saw online,
Tony that the equipment van for the equipment truck for
Miami football had gone twelve hundred miles by Wednesday and
they still weren't even halfway to Berkeley from Miami. I mean,
how much dash a lot?
Speaker 2 (16:48):
Like you just constantly stopping to pull over and get
some Cheetos exactly on that whole thing to fill up.
Speaker 1 (16:55):
That's a lot of love truck stop stops between Miami
and at truck Up.
Speaker 5 (17:00):
Almost happy, Yeah, almost happy through the season, Tony, How
would you assess how Jedfish has been doing things as
the head coach for the Washington Huskies.
Speaker 2 (17:09):
Yeah, I think he's done a great job of So
you got to think about it this way. He came
into a situation where they really kind of didn't have
a team. I mean they had they had guys that
hadn't played last year that were obviously willing to stick
with the program and everything. But not only did they
lose guys in the NFL, but then as soon as
(17:31):
Klen de Borr left, then the portal opened in a
special circumstance for thirty days and guys started defecting, and
he had to come in and not only you know,
assemble the pieces of the staff that didn't want to
come with him from Arizona to Washington, which I think
there were only three guys on a staff, but then
you have to put all your supports staff around them too,
(17:52):
and then he had to like build a team and
get these guys to then kind of come together. And again,
I think when you're talking about an offensive line that
combined had six career starts, seven career starts coming into
this season, like they're doing a pretty good job, you know.
(18:13):
I mean, they've got the number twenty total offense in
the country. So I think he's given the keys to
the car to the defense to Steve Belchick, and that's
proving to work out really well. So far. They've given
up six touchdowns Alston Long. I think it's really a
great job. Now it's a matter of tweaking a few things,
getting that record up so that the confidence comes up,
(18:35):
because then what's coming in in twenty five is a
great recruiting class, plus his opportunity to like finally give
him the portal and a normal cycle. I think this
team could be really good next year. But he's done
a bang up job of coming in and stopping the
bleeding and getting a lot of positivity back on Motley
(18:55):
can hurt.
Speaker 1 (18:56):
You mentioned Steve Belichick. Bell Palicheck's father gets pictured a
lot anytime he's near Husky Stadium. He's pictured in Husky gear.
And I saw that Montlake Futures had an speaking event
with him this week. How much is he around and
and is he do you see him? And is he
is he someone involved in the program? Yeah, I think.
Speaker 2 (19:14):
I mean he's at practice from time to time. I
don't know if I have like a super precise estimate
on number of times, but I could definitely count up
to like four or five practices that I've seen him.
So yeah, I mean just think about that. And same
goes for Pete Carroll.
Speaker 1 (19:32):
I was gonna ask him, is it true they both
they both have offices there?
Speaker 2 (19:37):
Well you know there there is there is office space
for NFL visitors. Yeah, And so I mean I don't
think there's I haven't seen like a name plate that
says Phill Belichick, but there's office space for for people
around there. So yeah, I mean they they definitely they're
(19:58):
around for sure.
Speaker 1 (19:59):
It's all that doesn't hurt recruiting. Tony. We'll let you
get your voice and take a rest, because you're gonna
be screaming over seventy thousand in the sold out Husky
Stadium tomorrow starting at four point thirty here on our station.
Thanks a lot for joining us and enjoy which should
be a while in game tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (20:12):
All right, thanks guys, good talk, you.
Speaker 1 (20:14):
Go, Thanks Tony. Tony Caserco in the Voice of the
Huskies on ninety three point three KJRFM, he says that
this rebuild, the massive rebuild that Washington went under since
Caalin de Bor left the days after the National Championship
game against Michigan and Houston in January, is going better
than he expected, especially the offensive line starting to take shape,
(20:34):
the defensive secondary again. The strength of this team. A
quarterback who hasn't thrown any for any interceptions, a dynamic
running back, a wide receiver Denzel Boston as I mentioned
from South Hill and Embridge High School that is second
in the nation, and receiving touchdowns. Man, they just got
to win that Rutgers game. They should be four and
one right now. You can't lose the Rutgers on the
(20:55):
road there, especially with what the schedule has in front
of them, Michigan at Iowa Big is coming up. They
have a love schedule, but that's where they that's where
they've decided to cast a lot Washington Michigan tomorrow four thirty,
twelve thirty pre game show with the Husky Hunks and
Dave Softy Malla right here on ninety three point three KJRFM.
(21:16):
Up next, your chance to win one thousand dollars from

thousand dollars from the Emerald Queen Casino. Chris Kid's going

that you know what the music means. Time to go
to the teblemore new text line four nine four five one.
We've got to a furky on there. We've got army
in the under my man, Joel, Yes, Sir, got a lot.
Speaker 5 (22:10):
Let's kick things off, because you did start the show
talking a little veganism, and the fact that you had
I don't even know how to Sayah, we're gonna leave
that alone. But when did you get a text from
a young lady two six? I'm not vegan, but try
to switch things up when I can, and have recently
eaten some shockingly delicious fried chicken. Soy chod easy. I
(22:31):
hope I'm saying that right. Lucky to be on the
West Coast with options. Also, Holy Names Academy grad handful
of years before me, so that means five years. So yeah,
I wouldn't have even got a chance to see you.
I see how you deduced that she was a Holy Names. Yes, sir,
peat that game real quick.
Speaker 1 (22:47):
I saw n h hn A. I wasn't quite sure what.
Speaker 6 (22:49):
That Wasuyna, Holy Names Academy got I know that Joel
from the four two five Drops in Army and the
under Sir Tomorrow wife and I did the Keg Steakhouse
(23:09):
instead of but I can't get the words out instead
of Sizzler.
Speaker 1 (23:13):
I think that's fair. Let's go to Keg. That wasn't
That wasn't in the line in the movie.
Speaker 5 (23:18):
And you want to You want a movie recommendation, Joel,
I don't have a movie.
Speaker 1 (23:21):
Off the top of that prison one. Somebody didn't like
that one.
Speaker 5 (23:23):
Well, yeah I hit that. Yeah he would hate her.
But I do have a TV show for don't listen
to Greg any original and the remake. Okay, here you go.
TV show for you. It is called Oh my gosh, now, oh,
Twilight of the Gods. It's a Zack Snyder. It's a
(23:43):
Zach Schneider produced TV series. It's ten episodes. They're about
thirty minutes each. I don't want to say anymore. Twilight
of the Gods on Netflix, Joel, you'll probably finish it
in a day. I think you will really enjoy it.
So Twilight of the Gods on Netflix. Check it out.
(24:07):
Let me know your thoughts. I'm pretty sure you'll finish
it in a day. From the four two five I've
texted wanting to sign Gino two years fifty four million,
I'm starting to think he might command around four years,
one hundred forty to one sixty.
Speaker 1 (24:22):
What says you? I am right there with you.
Speaker 5 (24:25):
I think Gino has been playing over and beyond expectations now,
albeit it's only what a four game sample size. He
still has to prove it again against the Giants, but
I don't see him falling off per se, So I'm
right there with you.
Speaker 4 (24:42):
He is.
Speaker 5 (24:43):
I think Hugh Millen has talked about this, if I'm
not mistaken, but the time that Gino was a backup,
he wasn't seeing the field. I know he's going to
be thirty four years of age this month, but his
play is showing that he is twenty nine. So I
really think the Seahawks are are considering keeping him long
(25:05):
term because he doesn't have that mileage on his body
because he was a backup, which is a great thing
because he is living up to be more than the backup.
Right now, he is definitely again a top twelve, top
ten quarterback in this league through five weeks of the
NFL season. Again, we'll find out more, obviously against the Giants,
but I'm confident that he.
Speaker 1 (25:25):
Will play pretty well.
Speaker 5 (25:27):
This is from the seven four to seven when we
played the audio of Ryan Grubb talking about they had
tryouts to see who can complete that lateral pass to
Zach Charbonnay when they were in a third and long situation,
and seven four to seven says I can see DK
throwing to a wide open receiver and the ball ends
up in the stands. Yeah, DK is he's a hulk.
He's a huge guy, very strong, powerful. I can imagine
(25:49):
that he is not very accurate. And that's something that
Ryan Grub alluded to, which makes a lot of sense.
And let's see, Oh, here he goes the funny one
from Tom by the two six. Hey, Bill, if beef
is not allowed in your house, why does your wife
even have Why is your wife even let you in
the house giving you or a one hunk of beef?
Speaker 1 (26:13):
Shout out Tom for that one.
Speaker 5 (26:15):
I hope Greg's wife, if you're listening this is bell,
I hope that put a smile or chuckle on your face.
At the very minimum. Let's see kimm get one more. Oh,
here we go turfurkey. That's effing disgusting, but it does
remind me turn duck in season has brought around the
corner Ryan and Scott Dale. All right, Ryan, well it's
(26:35):
that time. It's that time. I think you guys are
ready for it. Let's get to some factor fiction giving
you guys a chance to win one thousand dollars.
Speaker 3 (26:46):
We're set to go glad you're with us, It's your
shot at our weekly thousand bucks and the ten thousand
dollars grand Prize. It's Factor Fiction, brought to you by
the Emerald Queen Casino, the betting capital of the Northwest.
Make the beautiful new EQUC sportsbooky your home all football
season long. Fact or Fiction is on Sports Radio ninety
(27:09):
three point three KJR FM.
Speaker 5 (27:17):
Yeah baby, you hear the music Factor of Fiction presented
by the Emerald Queenn Casino. Picks that we made with
odd from bet MGM and the EQC listener. You have
twelve minutes of text in fact if you agree or
fiction if you disagree. Again, we'll make picks based up
on the upcoming college or program. Either go going against
(27:38):
the spread or the total over under. You know me,
I'm a big spread guy, so you can probably guess
NFL YEP, that's exactly where I'm going. This is a
tough one for me, but I gotta go with my gut.
I will take the Houston Texans at home minus one
against the Buffalo Bills. I know Josh Allen, he's been
(28:00):
looking like the MVP face the Ravens humble Pie. But
I think the Texans have the better team right now.
So give me the Houston Texans again minus one versus
the Buffalo Bills. The Texans are at home. Nico Collins
is going crazy. Oh did I not mention revenge game
for Stefan Diggs. I think Stefon Diggs is gonna want
(28:22):
to have a really good game. I think that could
be a big difference. I'm again this is a very
tough pick for me. But again I know I'm one
with Texans minus one against the Buffalo Bills. Texan four
nine four five one fact. If you're saying you know what, Chris,
I feel you, I will agree with you on this
(28:42):
or fiction if you're like, no, Chris, the Bills are
gonna go into Houston and defeat the Houston Texans. Text
in four nine four to five one fact or fiction. Again,
I'm one with the Houston Texans minus one point against
the Buffalo Bills. You'll have about twelve minutes to text
(29:04):
that in fact if you agree, or again fiction if
you disagree.
Speaker 1 (29:07):
This should be money. Though.
Speaker 5 (29:08):
I'm thinking a lot of you have been watching or
seeing highlights of the Texans. It looked like a pretty
good offense, defense is still figuring things out. Should be
a fun matchup there in Houston. But again I'm home
with the Texans minus one against the Buffalo Bills. I
hate going against Josh Allen, I really do, because he's
my fantasy quarterback for one, but two, he looks really
(29:28):
good and the weapons around him have been playing well,
so this is a tough game for me to pick.
But again, Texans minus one against the Buffalo Bills an
easy psy. There's my pick, Texans minus one against the
Buffalo Bills. Coming up next, I'm gonna chat with the
legend the great Ian Furness on here ninety three point.
Speaker 1 (29:53):
Three kJ R f M. Welcome back, Greg Mell to
the News of you and Christopher Kay with you after
Chris hooks you up with the factor piction pick going
to a fifty to fifty toss up game. That was
bold of you.
Speaker 5 (30:11):
I like the Texans, man. They just have it rolling
right now at home. They are at home. They're at home,
They're and a half by one favor by a point.
Speaker 1 (30:20):
So I really like the Texans.
Speaker 5 (30:22):
I think Nicol Collins and Stefan Diggs are going to
have a really good game, and it's a revenge game
for that Stefan Diggs who left the Bills. So I
like this pick a lot, But the listeners are going fiction.
You could have met I get it.
Speaker 7 (30:35):
I think the Texans are a powerhouse, to be honest,
and you know, I know the Bills started off really hot.
Speaker 1 (30:40):
I feel you on that. I'm not mad.
Speaker 5 (30:41):
I even said that, Hey, the Bills, they had a
good start. They were humbled by the Ravens. Yeah, and
that was another pick that I made. People are like,
are you do you watch the football games?
Speaker 1 (30:49):
Chris? Yes, I do.
Speaker 5 (30:51):
I'm just I could be right, I could be wrong,
but in my gut, I had to roll with the Texans.
So four nine, four or five one if you agree
it's going to be fact if you think the Texans
are going to win by two or more points.
Speaker 1 (31:00):
Fiction. If you're like Chris, go kick a can, brother,
it's not happening. What'd you pick this week? Andrew Anderson
Hurst joining this, thank you? I picked? What did I pick? Oh?
I picked a col plus? Yeah?
Speaker 7 (31:14):
I know they're to have game day there for the
first time. Yeah, because they're playing against Miami and cam
Ward the first time it's been in Burger I believe that. Yes, Yeah,
And guess who's their guest picker. You probably guess who
it is. Carl Sagan, No, Marshall Lynch. Oh, of course,
can imagine him on live TV. That that's not gonna
(31:36):
go well, but I'm excited. It's gonna be musty TV.
As Jess says that it's going to be a train
wreck that you want to see. Uh, but no, I
just think cam Ward's coming in really really hot. They
almost lost against Virginia Tech last week. Cow knows how
to play defense. J Justin Wilcox has been known from
here from you. He's coaches good defenses. And you know,
they've given up, like, I think, no more than fourteen
(31:57):
points all year to all their opponents. Granted they haven't
played anyone as good as Miami, but they're underdogs by
like ten and a half or eleven points. I can't
remember exactly what it was, but so I just think
it's going to be they're at least cover and it'll
I think it'll be close game.
Speaker 1 (32:11):
I know you probably hear this a lot, but I
almost took that. Really I saw that number. Justin Wilcox,
what he's done at cal Berkeley. I went to grad
school at cal Berkeley, and the administration there in the campus.
They don't care. They don't care about sports, but certainly
not football, right, and you're on your own. In fact,
the university subsidized when I was there the football program.
(32:36):
I don't know if they still do. And I mean facilities,
practice times, academic schedules, they don't bend. They don't care. No,
And Justin Wilcox has done a really good job at
that school with the limitations that they have. Still. Yeah,
as soon as you say cal and Marshawn Lynch, I
think about him, of course, hijacking the golf cart and
McCart and driving around Memorials the core memory of mine.
(32:58):
By the way, if you've never been to Memorial Stadium
in Berkeley, it's an old big bowl, concrete bowl, but man,
is it a beautiful place to watch a game. Strawberry
Canyon in the background, and the sight lines. It's something
like the Rose Bowl, where in that there are no
decks and it's just this giant bowl. We Michigan Stadium
is that way and Han Harbor and the seats go
(33:18):
back instead of up, and so there is not this
giant You know, you're not at the top. When you're
at the top, of the stam at the Rose Bowl.
It's like being at the two hundred level at Bloomenfield, right,
and some of yes and yeah, you're a little far away,
but you're not high, and the same at Memorials. I
loved my time at CAL Berkeley, and my kids are
born there and we used to walk them up in
strollers to I walked in free once when USC and
(33:42):
Pete Carroll's team was number one in the country playing
at CAL on like a four o'clock game, and I
just strolled my kids in a twin stroller. I knew
the security guard and the press skate and then she
just let me in down the ramp for the and
I was at the edge of the end zone because
of my double wide stroller watching Cal upset. I think
they were either number one or number three USC that time.
(34:03):
But was Marshall Lynch there? That was pre Marshall Lynch.
I'm old. I refereed Marshall Lynch is high school games
really Oakland Tech. Here you go the oel is that
is a trip to officiate games in the area. He
used to It was boys against man. Yeah, it was ridiculous.
And then I will say this when midterm grades came
(34:24):
out in mid October. The OEL teams just suddenly got decimated.
Just what happened? I thought Oaklan Tech was five and
oh yeah, well grades came out, but I could tell stories,
but they had. I refereed games at Skyline High School
Skyline against mcclemons in the Oakland Athletic League Division one
(34:45):
scouts lining the field. I mean, it was amazing how
many recruits came out of that league, Like the last
place team in the league was getting D one recruits.
In the Oakland Athletic League. Skyline mcclemons did a playoff
game on a Friday afternoon. Very few schools lights there
and crime and they were worried about that. So they
played Friday afternoons and there was a giant fight. There
(35:06):
were players taking off their helmets and swinging them at
coaches and the head referee, Sam Mariana, who'd done it
for years. In your eighty seven year old did it
for fifty years. He said, let's go, we're out of here.
What do you mean we're out of here? He goes,
game's over. He says, the cops will be here in
a second. Well, I thought, I was like, well, the
cops are They're always here. They're right open, police departments
standing right behind you. He goes, no, the cops, and
(35:29):
about a minute later, the police helicopters landed on the
field and I said to saund I said, yeah, we
are out of here. The police helicopter landed, everyone dispersing.
I was like, oh yeah, and he looked at me
and said, welcome to the OEO. Greg Little baptism with fire.
Early nineteen ninety, early two thousands.
Speaker 7 (35:51):
How about this Seahawks injury report? Who are we concerned
that's actually going to miss the game.
Speaker 1 (35:56):
I don't think Bio Murphy's going to play. I'm not real.
I can't give you a positive spin on Jerome Baker either.
The hamstring thing man we've been talking about this sin yeah,
and Tyree Knight is being thrust into the role that
he wasn't. I think he's playing so far. I've heard
mixed reviews on him. He's Chris has said he's gonna
(36:16):
be the Seahawks stud prediction of the of the week.
For him, he gets to the ball his speed, and
when he gets to a tackle, he makes pretty sure tackles.
He Troity had a very good tackling game. He is
still struggling with the assignments and the changes that McDonald
wants his guys to do at the snap. And McDonald's
talked about it a lot. He goes, oh, I told
you can make tackles. It's just the all everything else
(36:37):
he wants a linebacker to do in that defense. And
the weak side linebacker spot is a tricky one and
reading formations and having to change your alignment depending on
what the offense has given you. And he's not all
there yet with that, and then you can kind of
add and that's McDonald's point is he's got the physical
skills and he's the speed and the tackling ability. He's
just got to get him in the right place. And
(36:57):
more often he was in the right place more often
against the Lions.
Speaker 7 (37:01):
Yeah, well he's one of the only ones that was
because everyone is wide open all the time.
Speaker 1 (37:05):
That is true. They are still thin on the defensive line.
Leonard Williams, even he plays, is not going to be
one hundred percent and they're going to be missing Murphy,
so it's going to be more of Miles Adams.
Speaker 7 (37:16):
Well, And a lot of people don't think about this,
like Obviously everyone deals with injuries, but having all of
your injuries concentrated at one position group that means basically
like you're going to lose at that spot every single time.
Speaker 1 (37:27):
So it's a huge difference. And it's not like college
football where you have three four star recruits behind in
the depth. You've got fifty three guys and you can
only devote a couple to each position, and your depth
is so.
Speaker 7 (37:38):
Thin, not to mention the salary cap. So if you
guys got players there, so your backups aren't going to
be good.
Speaker 1 (37:42):
Exactly, you're not going to carry four four star NFL
players on your rush. You can't afford to because it's
a salary cap. That's exactly. What do you guys got
going today?
Speaker 7 (37:49):
Oh, we got Danie and Neally. He's gonna join us.
He joined you guys last week, probably had fun conversation.
Speaker 1 (37:53):
He's going to play the clip that Tony castri Cone mentioned.
He was his spotter at Recers press box last week.
Speaker 7 (37:58):
That's awesome. And then Greg go Selfman Films joins us.
We're gonna break down the Seahawks game against the Lions. Uh,
and then looking forward to next week as well. Tim
Bootham the Ap joins at one thirty, and then of
course Rob rob Rang joins at two.
Speaker 1 (38:10):
O'clocktu you get Tim Booth snuck in here? I don't know.
It's good question.
Speaker 7 (38:13):
Ian's got the connection. So maybe it's Jess. Actually, she's
probably the one of those better connections.
Speaker 1 (38:17):
Tim Booth and I worked together at the Associated Press
when I first got here. Yeah, technically he works for me.
He probably doesn't want people to know that. Probably it
is not. And then he got he's done great to
take yeah Press. Yeah, and for Ness, I see him
in all red. He joins us next with Anderson Hurst
and Jess when McIntyre for the next three hours, Greg
(38:37):
Belt and Christopher Kidd thank you for listening. We'll be
back on Monday post Seahawks and Giants. Enjoy that and
enjoy Huskies and Michigan tomorrow for thirty Right here on
the station, The Washington Beef Commissions Football Friday rolls on
on ninety three point three kJ RFM
