Hotline to talk about all things NFL.

Speaker 1 (02:24):
Good morning, Jury, Good afternoon, where you are.

Speaker 3 (02:28):
Good morning, Kryptter, Greg.

Speaker 1 (02:30):
How are you guys, Jerry, We are well. Thank you.
I hope you are as well.

Speaker 2 (02:34):
Let's start with a tour of the teams that are
remaining on the Seahawks schedule. The next one of the
Green Bay Packers. You spent time this training camp in
the summer with the Pack and now they're nine to four.
They very well could have beaten Detroit last Thursday night.
They have a top five rushing defense, they run the ball,

(02:55):
and Jordan Love is very.

Speaker 1 (02:56):
Efficient throwing the ball. What is what strikes you the
most about the packtory?

Speaker 3 (03:02):
I think what strikes me the most is what they're
doing in the turn of our game, or lack thereof.
And so when I was there during training camp, it's
the first few days of training camp, Jord and Love
had not yet agreed to his big mega deal, and
they were trying to figure out, hey, can we really
afford to pay this guy after just one year and
really half a year of production and good production, And

(03:23):
now we see that we wouldn't. Love is playing like
one of the better quarterbacks in the NFL, but maybe
not quite at a level and quite at the consistency
and exposiveness that he played the second half of last year.
And we all know that what the happiness is the
difference between reality and expectations. And so what's encouraging those
for the Packers is that after having an interception every
week of the season the last three weeks, he has

(03:43):
not done that. And so if you can stop having
some of those mistakes, give the the team a little
bit more cushion. They did beat the Niners and Dolphins.
They played Detroit down to the line, which is about
as good as most people can ask for these days.
But that's really going to be the question is I mean, Seattle,
you guys have quite a bit defense, and the defense
is coming on. What can you do to try and
affect Jordan Web and create problems for him?

Speaker 2 (04:05):
In that regard, that's Sunday night, and then the following
Sunday the Minnesota Vikings come eleven and two, just put
up forty on the Falcons. Brian Flores has the defense
just attacking people. What strikes you about the Vikings and
maybe what Brian Flores does defensively for them?

Speaker 4 (04:24):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (04:25):
Absolutely. I Mean the way that you keep hearing everyone
playing the Vikings describing them going in is like a
zero Blitz nightmare. You're going to see more than zeros
than you've ever seen in your life. I think that's
what Thomas Brown, the Bear's interim coach, said when he
was the offensive coordinator in the Bears game against Minnesota
and they actually had a pretty good offensive game, especially
in the second half of their so that week, and
since he was kind of being like, you just have

(04:46):
to be so ready for that. You have to know
where your answers are. You have to have ekey outs
and I think that's something that they've been really coming on.
And also this is no longer a team that is
just like only defensively super strong, and there's also a
team works Paan Joernaldo's coming off a five touchdown game,
the most of his career, and he basically had Justin
Jefferson going off for a while and then he started

(05:06):
really focusing on Justin Jefferson and so you go to
Jorgan Madison. Well, now both of them had multiple touchdowns
last week and to really have like a pick your
poison offense. So they're just such a complete team. And
I played.

Speaker 1 (05:19):
So that's back to back. The Seahawks had the Packers
and the Bears.

Speaker 2 (05:22):
This is Jery Epstein her weekly visit with Us, brought
to you by Zeke's Bezza Zekespizza.

Speaker 1 (05:25):
Dot COM's e E e Kspizza.

Speaker 2 (05:28):
Dot com homegrown here in the Northwest on ninety three
point three KJRFM.

Speaker 1 (05:33):
Okay. Then they go to the Bears.

Speaker 2 (05:34):
The Seahawks have the Bears on a short week. They'll
leave Christmas night for the day after Christmas, Thursday night game.
The Bears offense looks like a mess. They fired their
offensive coordinator Shane Waldron, they fired their head coach. Some
think they're wasting Caleb Williams already in this first season.
What to make of Chicago, What to make of them
going to Santa Clara and just getting boat raced by

(05:54):
the forty nine ers.

Speaker 3 (05:57):
I mean, this was like historically bad. This was not
just like, oh yeah, a little bit of trouble for
the first week. They got out games three hundred and
nineteen yards to four yards in the first half. Now,
that is hard to do defensively and hard to do offensively.
I mean, it was things that hadn't been done, like
since the nineties. On one side of all, no team
had allowed that many defensive yards and a half this year.

(06:17):
All of these everything that could go on did And
what I was really concerned about going into the game
last week is think about the New York Jets, who
as their head coach at Lois Teeth, and they said, okay,
well who should we promote to the interim coach? And
what they did is they took the coordinator from the
most productive units. That was Jeck Oulbrich. They promoted him,
and all of a sudden, not only with the offense
having all of the issues, but also the defense no

(06:38):
longer had these were taught to play callers their head
coach and coordinator at the time. So here we got
a Bears team that plan was figuring something out on
offense with Thomas Barna's offensive coordinator. But in a span
of eighteen days, Thomas Brown is going from passing game
coordinator where he's not really talking to the players, offensive
coordinator replying to the whole offense and the number one
guy to Caleb Williams, and then to head coach of

(06:59):
the time, Well, he's in charge of talking to everyan
and oh, by the way, he has to come down
from the booths where he saw the game better and
was calling it well to the sideline and also be
responsible for game managements. And so I think that when
you look at it, it is an easy trap to
fall into if you're an NFL team to say, well,
if they're doing well, we should promote that person. But
you have to think about who is this going to
affect and what's the short and long term fall out?

(07:20):
And said, for me, look, Taylor Williams will be signed.
I don't think this is going to forever hinder his debounce,
but I do think it's going to slow and disrupt
it for now. And I just think when you look
at this team, they lost both of their play colors
on both sides of the bar. They had to shake
it up, and that is just something where you could
see that George Kittle's going off with like six or
one fifty two or something like that. They just did
not have a plan for the types of roubts they

(07:41):
were running, and offensively as well, they were not getting
the calls in as effectively, and Taylor Williams went back
to having seven stacks, which has been a huge problem.
Is the most backed player in the NFL.

Speaker 5 (07:51):
Jory, how impressive was that win for the Los Angeles
Rams to beat the Buffalo Bills, who haven't lost in
two months, which is crazy to say. As the building
out ten and three in the Rams, I'm looking to
see if they can capture the NFC West by winning
a few games here at the end of the season.

Speaker 3 (08:07):
I mean, you know, he was so much credit for
to Shan McDade, Matthew Stafford, Cooper pun and obviously they've
got defense has started as well. But I think that
the key like winterns of their organization are just so
able to be to you on any day at any time.
I'm not saying they're going to be to every time,
but I do think they're going to be to anytime.
And I mean forty four to beat Josh Allen when

(08:28):
he had picked touchdowns himself. I mean, no one's going
to bet for that going in. But I think when
you look at what Matthew Stafford's able to do, when
you look at what those two receivers are going to do,
and then you have that coach who's going to elevate it.
I mean, going back to the Vikings who we were
talking about as well. I remember when Minnesota Vikings general
manager Kwazy Dopamenz the first was prior to this job.
I went down to Minnesota that year during Otah during

(08:49):
the training camp, and Crazy and I were having this
conversation about you've got the quarterback in the middle of
the coach, and he said essentially like you always want
to get the quarterback who you know from win the
Super Bowl to Tom Brady to Patrick Home. But he goes,
I also believe that I have a coach here in
Kevin O'Connell, who, by the way, I came from the
make base system. And he said, I have a coach
here who I believe is going to be able to
elevate itsel. If I have a good quarterback, she can

(09:10):
make him great. With this seeing with Sam Darnold, if
I have a a he can make him a Bee.
And there's always going to be that influence. And I
will say, not only is Matthew Stafford one of the
best quarterbacks in the league even at his age, but
you also have a head coach who's calling place, who
is always going to just give you this mental edge
on the other team.

Speaker 2 (09:28):
We got to get you out here, Joey for the
Rams Seahawks game. It might be for the NFC choice
titled you'd like to spend the first week of January
and Los Angeles, wouldn't you?

Speaker 3 (09:38):
I was definitely down to that. And I'm in Dallas
right now for the NFL League even even Labor seven
arcs and I went for a run yesterday. It was
seventy and sunny, and my boyfriend's like, why are you
just like rubbing into me at four pm in New
York and starting hole up there?

Speaker 1 (09:53):
Yeah? Not speaking of Dallas.

Speaker 3 (09:56):
It's not seventy today, But anyway, continues.

Speaker 5 (09:59):
Joey, speaking of down Alice, what what the hell last night?
I mean, I honestly don't really care, but I had
fantasy purposes behind it, and what happened for someone that
didn't watch the game. If there's someone out there that
missed it, can you explain the debacle of the Cowboys?
And I guess we shouldn't be surprised, should we?

Speaker 3 (10:17):
I mean, it's funny that you mentioned that, because I
kind of felt going into the game that they keep
it competitive the loose to the Bangles at the end.
I just think one of these teams is a much
more functioning team than the others. So you could get
into the specifics of the play, but more so, it's
just sort of like, which are these teams you actually
trust at the end? Which of these coaches you trust
at the end? And I think that's kind of what
this comes down to.

Speaker 1 (10:38):
That is so unfortunate.

Speaker 5 (10:39):
Block punt defense like, oh, I want to get it back,
bounces off the shoulder pad, Cincinnati gets the ball back.

Speaker 1 (10:45):
I was like, Oh my good, Only the Cowboys could
be that's coach.

Speaker 2 (10:49):
I mean, it's one guy in one moment, but you'd
like to think the coaching staff goes through all those
scenarios repair as y'all don't get a Peter. Yeah, exactly,
that's the call when the ball's loose. Supposed touch.

Speaker 1 (11:01):
Is Joey Epstein from Dallas on the beaking from Hotlines.

Speaker 2 (11:04):
You enjoyed us every Tuesday thanks to Zeke's Pizza Zeks
Pizza dot com, homegrown in the Northwest. Tom Brady has
five percent stake now in the Las Vegas Raiders, who
are a mess again at quarterback and a mess overall. Yes,
they played the chief tough on Black Friday, but they
watched i think, went nine in a row now and
they don't really have a future at quarterback. How does
tom Brady perhaps play into all this joy?

Speaker 3 (11:28):
Yeah? I think what's interesting about Tom Brady if you
can say how much actual voting the tool does he
have and how much influence does he have? And those
are two different things. To my colleague Charles Robinson, what
a great piece about that this week, and just this
idea that in the Raiders organization they say, hey, we're
not saying that Tom Brady's going to be in our
meetings necessarily, but we do think particularly when jafting a
quarterback next year or this coming spring, as the Raiders

(11:50):
are expected to do that, Margid, this is going to
go to Tom Brady and say, hey, what do you
think about this guy? Hey, what do you think this
player can do for us? And what Tom Brady tells him,
he will put so much stock in that will essentially
become Mark Davis's opinion, that will essentially become the writing
decision making factor in the Las Vegas Raiders organization. And
so Charles had reported on that from the quarterback standpoint.

(12:12):
But I was talking to some people last night, because
again I'm in Dallas, the labor said match, there's a
lot of fun office people here. We've got owners named Tomorrow,
And I was kind of asking around, being like, what
do you expect to happen with the Raiders? Do you
expect them to keep their coach? To it'spect them to
keep their general manager? And some of the executives I
was talking to were essentially extending the theory that Charles

(12:32):
had promoted for the quarterback and saying like, this is
true of the leadership structure too, And so if Mark
Davis thinks that he cannot win or it's hard, if
Tom Brady thinks that he could, that the Raiders cannot
win with this organization and tells out to Mark Davis
that could legitimately influence whether or not Antonio Pears's returning
for year two. And I'm not saying that Mark Davis

(12:52):
would totally go against every belief he had, but I
do think if he's on the fence, this could be
the deciding voter. And so when I talked to some
and they said, that's why, Yes, it's easy to say, well,
don't you think if you're the Laders you want an
offensive coach if you are going to be bringing a
quarterback then And while they might do that, they also
might say, oh, hey, Tom Brady, you know Mike Brabell.
You know the culture that you can teak is that

(13:13):
you guys were together at the Patriots. What if we
bring him in? And oh, also, maybe we just get
head coach GM quarterback all and in the same year,
which is the opposite of both the Chicago Bears have
been doing. We've all seen how well it worked out
for them when they have all of their top decision
makers and key pieces on different cycles. And so one
general manager candidate that someone throw out to me last
night was John Spiheps, the assistant general manager at the

(13:35):
Camp Bay Buccaneers. The Buccaneers have succeeded through different strategies
in recent years. They had the Brady years, They've done
great in the Baker years and overperformed. And that is
someone who Brady worked with in Tampa. So again, by
no means am I saying these are going to be
the next head coach and general manager of the Raiders.
But I do think one interesting idea that is floating
around the league is a rabel John Spypech Karen.

Speaker 2 (13:57):
Maybe Tom Brady can be their quarterback turned forty eight
next year next to August.

Speaker 3 (14:02):
Right, he should probably broadcast the game for the team
that he's playing four while so.

Speaker 2 (14:08):
Why not he's Tom Brady to do all the study
think he woulds I'm going to ask you about Atlanta.
Kirk Cousins doesn't have a touchdown pass in four weeks,
eight interceptions. A lot of cities would have run him
out on rails already. But they're paying him, as we
know what, eighty some million dollars. And then there's Michael
Pennock sitting there. The Falcons have went from six to

(14:28):
three to six and seven, there's still only a game
out of the division lead in the NFC South. Could
they go with Pennix in the middle of a playoff
push here the final four weeks or is it sink
or swim with Cousins?

Speaker 3 (14:39):
You think you know? It feels like if I'm on
Seattle Radio, I should give you guys some hope that
you're going to see your University of Washington quarterback. It's
like frinky especially as long as there in playoff contention,
it does not make sense. Not only is Kirk Cousins
more ready, because look, Michael Penicks has had success in
college Tesson college is not always trying to play panic
out and even when it does, it usually take some

(15:00):
sort of acclamation period. And so in the immediate short
term of who's going to more likely get you to
the playoffs, I do think it's Kirk Cousins, even if
he's going through a rut right now, think about the
body of his work and what he can do, and
also just sort of where he is. He's had games
this year, we thought he could do it. It's not like
we haven't seen him do something impressive in three years.
On top of that, he's probably talked about on this show.

(15:22):
One of the big reasons that Kirk Cousins went to
Atlantaver Minnesota is because he wanted a team willing to
guarantee him money for three years, not only for the
financial implications, but also because he wanted a team willing
to say, we expect you to be our starter for
three years. And so that's the structure of his contract
to It's probably and that's Falcon's best inclus this season
but also next season for kirk Cousins to work because
if he's not, you have this pretty massive stunt costs

(15:45):
and you still know what you have in Michael Penis.
It might be great, but it might not.

Speaker 5 (15:49):
Brandon Graham is off for the season with that triceps injury,
but he was on I believe it was Sports Radio
ninety four WHIP in Philadelphia, and he had some comments
regarding branding, regarding Jalen Hurts and AJ Brown's relationship, and
now he's apologizing saying, you know.

Speaker 1 (16:07):
Probably did a little too much.

Speaker 5 (16:08):
Could this be a rift in this team where your
number one receiver has clearly won the football, the offense
is not playing well. Could this derail them in the playoffs?
Or is this something that shouldn't be overblown? And this
happens all the time with teams.

Speaker 3 (16:23):
What's funny about this is that what Brandon Grant said
is not that crazy, and I think if he said
it in The Eagle's locker room coaches, even maybe off
the record to reporters, it probably wouldn't make it make
a way. The problem is he said it on radio.
He said it publicly, and so that's when this becomes something.
And it's funny. I remember a time when I was
talking to a GM and we ran with the story,

(16:44):
and the GM told me afterwards, like, everything I said
that you wrote with accurate and everything I said, I
everything you said I agree with. But I realized that
when I'm speaking for my team, I have to feel
differently than when i'm or I have to present differently
than when I'm speaking for myself. And in that situation,
he felt what he had done hurt the team, and
so I think it's just kind of one of those
situations where Brandy Graham was being honest Brandon and Graham

(17:06):
was giving an interview but didn't need to be heard publicly.
The thing is, also, though in Philadelphia, like this is
not a team that is like losing all their games
they're winning pretty much all of their games. They're on
what a nine game winning streak, and so this is
a team that I feel is more than constant to
come back from that. But I think where you might
see a change is Okay Panthers, because it's probably a
little better than people expect. And so I think everyone's like,

(17:26):
oh my gosh, the Panthers beat us, let's fire up
approached for the names. Oh my gosh, the Panthers beat us, Like, clearly,
our passing game doesn't work, despite the fact that it's
worked in pretty much every other game. Also, they have
take on Barkley, and so if the packing game isn't working,
it makes sense that they would bean on the running game.
That might not be fun for a j ground, but
that is actually the truth. And so I think when
you look at it instead, you say, you know what,
you should have a couple plays in the first quarter,

(17:49):
even if it literally passes behind the line of scrimmage,
where you get your receivers involved, because there are a
lot of teams who believe that if you don't get
the receiver and all involved early, you will have trouble
getting them involved later because they will be a little
checked out and that's pretty standard in the position. That's
not a knocking, aj you Brown, and so I think
that is maybe the response to this. But I'm not
concerned that Philadelphia is going to blow up from a

(18:09):
locker and.

Speaker 2 (18:09):
Standpoint, Joey, are you going to be this weekend, Week
fifteen of the NFL season after you get back from Dallas?

Speaker 3 (18:17):
Just Dallas for this week? So you got Dallas and
then back in New York and so they'll say you
some big games, Bill Lyons and we've got Steelers and Eagles.
Definitely some very and of course to your games and
very exciting games between playoff eligible teams at the moment.

Speaker 2 (18:32):
Got Army Navy on Saturday. It'll come down for Washington
and see us for that. That's gonna be wild at all.

Speaker 1 (18:37):
Absolutely, thank you, Joey.

Speaker 2 (18:40):
We'll talk to you next week. Happy travels, enjoy your
seventy degree runs.

Speaker 1 (18:45):
Much thank you.

Speaker 2 (18:47):
Joey Epstein, senior NFL writer for Yahoo Sports who joins
us every Tuesday at eleven o'clock thanks to Zeke's Pizza
zekespizza dot com. You can find her at Jory Epso
at j O RI I E P S T E
I n a Twitter x and she says that the
Packers are efficient and dangerous on both sides of the ball.

(19:10):
She said it's zero blitz Arama with Brian Flores and
the Vikings that the Seahawks will be dealing with in
two weeks. Basically said, the Bears are a mess. I
mean three nineteen to four. I didn't realize that they
got out game three nineteen to four in the first
half in San Francisco and they had one first down
and were down by twenty four points.

Speaker 1 (19:31):
Just a bad football team, You're right, Christ Well, I'm
just saying they're bad.

Speaker 5 (19:35):
I think Mike McDonald's defense, the way the offense look
like they've turned the table. I know it's quote unquote
trap game, and oh they get paid too, But I
just feel that the Seahawks are a better team. They
are and if they play the way they need to play,
they should have no problem going to Soldier Field and
handling business. So That's where I'm at with it. I'm
not saying it's no.

Speaker 1 (19:54):
I'm not saying you're wrong. There are some factors that.

Speaker 5 (19:58):
Now if it's slowing down there in a negative three
to okay, you know, but Caleb, I don't think he's
played in two any snow games. Guys from tele don't
where he's from, but he played at USC.

Speaker 1 (20:07):
He played at Oklahoma before that. I think it's okay,
fair enough. I see Ian Ferness outside. He's going to
join us at eleven forty five.

Speaker 2 (20:16):
Up next though, is your chance to be a part
of the show at eleven thirty Tell themore do text
line four nine four or five to one. And the
Jerry Depoto comments are right in line with Christopher Kidds skepticism.
We'll read that back next on ninety three point three KJRFM.
Welcome back to the Greg Best Show with Christopher Kidd.

(20:36):
You know what the music means. It's trying to read
back your text and tell themore do text nine four
nine four to five one. And remember this is a
Cracking ticket Tuesday when you hear the sounder every hour
between now and six pm called a two O six
two eight six ninety five ninety five and be the
tenth car to win two tickets to the crack and
against the Canucks January second climate Plagerina.

Speaker 1 (20:55):
From the four two five.

Speaker 5 (20:56):
The Mariners should put the Poto talking about the offense
on a loop and so as a sleep aid. Then
maybe they could afford a bat that is well played.

Speaker 1 (21:04):
I love that.

Speaker 5 (21:05):
I'm all in if you need any help with that.
I don't know how we can get this going, but
I'm I want to do that. That'd be really cool.
It'd be funny and cool. This is from the two
five three Army is.

Speaker 1 (21:16):
Going to boat racing. Go Army.

Speaker 5 (21:18):
Thanks for all you doing, all the hard work you
do two part three and nothing to do but love
for you. Keep up the great work. Happy holidays to
you and yours. Appreciate that, appreciate that.

Speaker 1 (21:27):
Love for you. Baby. That's an old heavy D song.
Come on, Greg, I'm a thirty two year old black man.
Do you think I do not know?

Speaker 2 (21:36):
I gotta put this on the air and Duguar is
gonna hate me for it. They were playing a sing
along man, they're playing a sing along song. And during
one of the timeouts in Glendale during the Seahawks Cardinals,
and it was Whitney Houston.

Speaker 1 (21:50):
I want to dance with somebody. I want to dance much.

Speaker 2 (21:53):
Come on, everyone knows when you hear that song, who
sings it right? And I turned to Dugar sitting on
my left and I said, Michael Sewan, you know who
this is, and he had no idea.

Speaker 1 (22:02):
All right, I'm a.

Speaker 2 (22:03):
Witty Houston man, one of the greatest vocalists of our
not even our generation, of the history of music.

Speaker 5 (22:11):
I joke around about taking black car from Brothers. By
god damn and Mike, you are making it very easy here, brother.

Speaker 2 (22:16):
Next up from the Sorry Mike, I just doubted you
from the press box.

Speaker 5 (22:20):
By the way, from the four two five, the Seahawks
beat Green Bay and Minute and Minnesota can win them both. Yeah,
but then look at this. Lose to Chicago and beat
the Rams three on one, man.

Speaker 2 (22:34):
That would be that would be a roller coaster. That
don't even sound right. That would be that'd be eleven
and six though. Man, they would be in the third
seed line.

Speaker 1 (22:42):
I know, but I don't like that that.

Speaker 5 (22:44):
I don't like that just because of talking, communicating and
giving an entertaining show that that coming in from what
game is that after they lose to the Bear Is
that a Ram?

Speaker 3 (22:54):
No?

Speaker 5 (22:54):
But I'm saying is that a Sunday night game or
a Thursday night game? That Bears game Thursday night. I'm
not saying how much how you a show on Friday
after that debacle. That would not be fun.

Speaker 1 (23:04):
Sure, you know it's not fun with.

Speaker 2 (23:06):
That, right, I'm not gonna say what it's not fun
about that game? Getting on a plane Christmas.

Speaker 1 (23:09):
Night at four o'clock is not fun either, But no,
and that's what you have to dealing with. That's not
the conditions there are not great.

Speaker 2 (23:16):
They will win that game, but I'm just saying the
conditions aren't really set up for him on that one.

Speaker 1 (23:21):
Go Navy beat the Army four two. If I come on,
there's gonna be a couple of listeners out here that
are all Navy great. Doesn't like that Army is now
six and a half point favorite? Is that all? We
talked a little bit about college. You play that Norvelle clip?

Speaker 5 (23:38):
Yeah, Colorado State Halls teacher, and he pointed out something
very impactful about an IL and agents calling up and
basically lying to these kids saying they got money for him,
and then also, hey, I need twenty percent of that.
So this is from the two oh six. Money screws
up everything. It's straight to the point it does. Greed
has been a problem. Two six also stated NCAA created

(24:01):
this poop sandwich.

Speaker 1 (24:02):
They sure did. About that.

Speaker 2 (24:04):
Let's say, let's state this again, because I don't think
everyone understands that the NCAA is not this separate, high
armed out on high entity. The NCAA are the college presidents.
They don't make any legislation, don't do anything without the
college president voting and approving it. The NCAA is the
collective body of member institutions. So when you say the

(24:24):
NCAA is screwed it up, the college presidents have screwed
it up, just to be clear, And the NCAA is
a convenient term as a catch all, But it's the
college presidents that have been sitting in these debates and
meetings and deciding this. The college presidents decided the college
football playoff structure, the college football college presidents approved the
television contract. The college presidents approve the realignment. The college

(24:49):
presidents have created this and that we've talked about.

Speaker 1 (24:52):
They don't want to regulate.

Speaker 2 (24:53):
Nil and transfer portal because they're Fredigetten sued and they're
asking for Congress to do it. And as we mentioned,
Congress is saying this is your and also, I don't
want my constituents at Auburn and Alabama and Georgia and
Ole Miss in Michigan and Ohio State getting ticked at
me because I'm trying to regulate their college football powerhouses.

Speaker 1 (25:11):
And that's why Congress is staying out of this. They
want to stay in office. They aren't going to.

Speaker 2 (25:15):
Tick off more than half of their constituents from the
four to two five.

Speaker 5 (25:19):
More ramifications is it is absolutely destroying high school recruiting.

Speaker 2 (25:23):
Absolutely that I'm glad that brought that up. Four two
five is dead on about this. I lived it with
both my kids. It's less so in girls' sports because
there are let's face it, there are more opportunities in
most sports in girls than in boys, if say soccer,
say basketball, but high school recruiting is an afterthought right now.

(25:44):
Coaches are not spending nearly the time or money they
used to spend on high school recruiting. Why because they're
doing it in transfer portal for the kids that are
already playing in college.

Speaker 1 (25:53):
Why would you take the coach? Here's what the coaches.

Speaker 2 (25:56):
I've got one spot, I've got two hundred thousand dollars.

Speaker 1 (25:59):
Am I going to give it to?

Speaker 2 (26:00):
He was seventeen or eighteen year old, unproven who has
never played college or am I going to take it
to the former starting quarterback at Old miss or in
Washington's case, Will Rogers Mississippi State, the SEC passing leader.
Am I going to sign the top high school guy
on my radar? Or am I going to spend that
money on the SEC passing leader. Last year they sent
on they spent on the NCC passing leader. He goes

(26:21):
for one year and then the next year they're going
to go find the next guy they can get for
two hundred and three hundred, five hundred thousand dollars.

Speaker 1 (26:27):
That's not going to the college kid.

Speaker 2 (26:29):
So here's the college kid that's done seven on seven
in passing camps, or in soccer's case, a baseball case
has gone the traveling tournaments and spend twenty thousand dollars
a year with the promise that they're going to get
a college scholarship.

Speaker 1 (26:40):
Well, guess what.

Speaker 2 (26:41):
Those scholarships are now going away because they are spending
their time and money refilling their rosters, recycling college players
from three and four other schools.

Speaker 1 (26:50):
That's what's happening.

Speaker 2 (26:51):
All the roster spots are not that used to go
to high school players are going to fiftyear seniors now
they get to transfer four times in five.

Speaker 5 (26:59):
Years from the four to two fast Awkwards man from
the four to two five getting back to the Mariners.
The Poto is trying to sell us a Porsche while
having us test drive. Hey tell you what a cameray? Hey,
I like some Toyota cameras, but it is just a
you know, regular vehicle and a Porsche that's upper echelon
and that's okay. But yeah, the Poto. Come on, man,

(27:21):
the Poto is Italian for full of pooh. I love
the I don't know if that's true, but boy, Keith,
that that does sound like that could be.

Speaker 1 (27:29):
I don't know the Poto who I could be a thousand.

Speaker 5 (27:32):
I know I'm wrong. Let's see speaking we read that
one already. Oh, here we go two o six, Chris
jump behind. A full season of Ryan Bliss.

Speaker 1 (27:43):
Yeah, Ryan Bliss, here we go.

Speaker 2 (27:44):
Put him at second base, didn't cost much, get on base,
steal for you. Then they say, spend your money elsewhere,
trade his fragile behind for a hitter.

Speaker 1 (27:54):
They got to get a third base.

Speaker 2 (27:55):
When they got to get a first basement, they gotta
get a DH while they're paying one twenty four million dollar.

Speaker 1 (28:00):
For two years.

Speaker 2 (28:00):
Who it's one sixty. Yeah, they've been second based. Don't
spend your money there. Put Ryan listen there.

Speaker 5 (28:06):
From the four two five, Chris finally says something smart. Hey, oh,
come on, that's not fair. Actually it might be because
you know, Mariners ain't Baseball ain't my bag. So you know,
if I did something right with baseball, I'm okay with that.

Speaker 1 (28:16):
So you know what, four two five, I'll take that.
It's no no problem.

Speaker 2 (28:20):
Jaguars plus fourteen at the trade, Yeah, that wasn't smart.

Speaker 1 (28:23):
That was well a.

Speaker 2 (28:25):
I also had San Jose State Watchington State the under.
You know they scored one hundred and fifty points.

Speaker 1 (28:31):
Can we say, man, it's football.

Speaker 5 (28:32):
I thought the Jaguars would put up a fighting chance
and the Lions are like, bro, we're playing against a
high school football team.

Speaker 2 (28:37):
There's the two reasons why we our show finished second
by one game.

Speaker 1 (28:42):
Those two picks like that.

Speaker 5 (28:43):
Yeah that you know, I get it. So you know
that text for four two five, I agree. I did
say something smart with regarding baseball, So it ain't no shade.

Speaker 1 (28:51):
They're we good. Let's see two.

Speaker 2 (28:54):
Five three, Greg, what are you gonna do without the
other team having a quarterback because their quarterback, Marshall's quarterback
just transferred.

Speaker 1 (29:00):
Army's gonna win. That's what's gonna happen. They're in the
Independence Bowl.

Speaker 2 (29:03):
Can we state again how ridiculous it is a twelve
and one Army team that won a league title, that
is in the college football rankings is going to the
Independence Bowl to play Marshall. Come on, that's just ridiculous.
Nobody cares but me, but it's still ridiculous. You said
the mayors here, Yeah, he's across the wall. The two

(29:23):
OHO six says, that's a ridiculous assessment. GiB The only
way we get college athletes so they come from high school.
The same number of high school kids still get the
same number of college scholarships. Incorrect or I've lived it.
There are not as many college scholarships available to high
school students as there used to be because they are
recycling players within the college sports program. They are not

(29:44):
opening doors every year to high school players as they
used to.

Speaker 1 (29:47):
Because of the ability for kids to transfer.

Speaker 2 (29:49):
It used to be that one kid was at one
school for five years, so therefore you had twenty scholarships
every year. Well, now that kid's leaving so now your
scholarship money on the kid that just left, who used
to be there for four years. So that's one fewer
spot for a high school player because the guy just
transferred to your starting quarterback just left and they want

(30:10):
to fill it with a experienced college player. So that player,
that one widget and a roster spot is now going
to another college player who can easily transfer with nil
money instead of going to a high school player. As
the parents of high school player, I'm not making this up.

Speaker 1 (30:26):
I lived it. Parents of high school players are living
it right now.

Speaker 2 (30:30):
The opportunity pool has shrunk, and it's shrinking even more
as they're cutting.

Speaker 1 (30:35):
Sports and spots. There are players, there are college players at.

Speaker 2 (30:39):
College programs right now who are getting their spots taken
away while they're in school. That's happening. Soccer players, Oh
you don't have a spot anymore. Oh the scholarship we
funded your first two years, we're not funding it anymore.
We're not even funding your roster spot anymore. Instead of
thirty soccer players are going.

Speaker 1 (30:57):
To have twenty. It's happening.

Speaker 2 (30:59):
It's right now, all because of all this money and
NIOL flowing to the top for basketball and football I'm
not making this stuff up. I know it, I lived it.
It's happening, it's crazy. We're gonna talk to Ian Forness
next to Mayor Maple Valley. He's gonna talk about this
agent situation in college sports that's as slimy as it gets.
The end's up next to ninety three point three kJ RFM.

(31:28):
Welcome back to the Greg Belt Show with Christopher Kidd.
Don't forget on Friday Thursday night. Actually, I'm flying to Washington,
d C. Where Jessmon McIntyre and I are going to
be at the one hundred and twenty fifth Army Navy
Game Media road presented by USAA. It's going to be
from the Military Women's Memorial at Arlington National Cemetery. We're
going to be broadcasting live from there on Friday, ten

(31:48):
am to one. All kinds of guests, Mike Buddy, the
Army Athletic Director, the superintendent of West Point, we'll hopp
probably have to have a Navy guest or two.

Speaker 1 (31:57):
We're gonna have well, let's come on now, the coach
of the Washington Commanders.

Speaker 4 (32:02):
You're taking a shot the poor Marines the other day, Yes, Marines, guys,
those guys are badasses.

Speaker 1 (32:07):
Yeah they are. But their Navy guys who couldn't get
in the army.

Speaker 4 (32:09):
Okay, whatever brought to I know some guys in the
Army that are dipstick. So now they aren't officers.

Speaker 1 (32:17):
You're talking to one of them.

Speaker 4 (32:18):
No, no, I'm like, I'm not the officers. A different thing
going to West Point. That's a different day.

Speaker 2 (32:23):
Maybe maybe our coverage on Friday from Washington, d C
and Urlington National Cemeteries brought to you by Warrior injury Law.
If you get injured and required legal representation of needing
attorney's a tough competent battle test to look no further
than attorney Rob Evans were injury lod.

Speaker 1 (32:38):
Yes, a proud Marine Corps.

Speaker 4 (32:40):
You guys should think about doing uh ten to three
on Friday, just a five hour show.

Speaker 2 (32:46):
We would have enough, guess I know you often turn
away Jesson and I are like, oh, we don't have
time for this guy. And I mean Heisman Trophy winners
are walking by, going, hey, you.

Speaker 1 (32:55):
Want to talk?

Speaker 4 (32:56):
What time is the game Saturday?

Speaker 1 (32:57):
It's noon Pacific three in Washington. I can watch some
of it.

Speaker 4 (33:01):
Okay, good, Yes, Army, Navy and cracking game that night,
but I do. I. Yeah, it's one of those things
I need to get to. I was just talking to
my son about that this weekend. Now that he's done,
I'm like, yes, I said, I want to go to
like some big time college football games. And we actually
mentioned Army Navy too, like it'd be fun to Oh
he would, Yeah, I think I think we'd have fun.
I just I there's something about that game always, I

(33:23):
fe I find it even more so today with the
current climate of college sports.

Speaker 2 (33:29):
There as much from the Army Navy game on Saturday.
Not one of those players, not one of those one
hundred and seventy players, has an nil dollar, nor have
they transferred and transfer portal.

Speaker 4 (33:40):
Yeah, but they get paid well and they paid. What's
the bonus you get done when you're done at forty
thousand right off the get go ors something. There are
no bonuses, No, there's I was just talking one of
the office officials a crack in the day. His son
was there. He said, there's a at the end.

Speaker 1 (33:55):
You get paid right, well, you get paid each year,
you get paid a staff to the second year or something.
You get paid a stipend.

Speaker 2 (34:01):
It's just that it comes all the money comes out
because you got to buy uniforms and books your first year.
On the second year, there's fewer things to buy, so
you more money. I made like sixty, well this is
thirty five years ago. I made sixty dollars a month
my sophomore year. He was made two hundred dollars as
a junior, and then I made like five hundre dollars.

Speaker 4 (34:17):
It's got to tell me his sons that he got
some bonus after his second or third year.

Speaker 2 (34:21):
Maybe they've done that for recruiting to get more people.
I think from that, maybe that's it. Yeah, I never
got a bone.

Speaker 4 (34:26):
It wasn't one point five million like a seventh year
quarterback is going to get now in the portal, No,
although he doesn't get that. I heard from from what
you were saying earlier, right.

Speaker 1 (34:35):
Twenty percent that's going to go to an agent.

Speaker 2 (34:36):
According to Jane novel The Coach of Agent and their
quotes from Colorado State. Yeah, the NIL it's unregulated, so
every unscrupulous cat you can think of is in it. Well, yeah,
because it's unregulated, so it's an opportunity for someone to
make money off of seventeen eighteen, nineteen year twenty year
old kid. And if you and Ian as you know,

(34:57):
these agents don't know the players. They're just eminem on
social media. Why don't you come to Missouri and I'll
get you two hundred thousand dollars You're only making twenty
thousand Colorida State.

Speaker 4 (35:07):
Well, and in other sports, as you mentioned, like the
NFL and all sports, there is a there. You have
to go through a process to get certified.

Speaker 2 (35:15):
By the Players Association, right, which maxes out the cut
that you can take as an agent.

Speaker 4 (35:19):
And you know, listen, I saw this when I worked
in junior hockey for a number of years, all those kids.
This is one of the reasons that they until recently,
until just a month ago, there was no if you
played in the CHL I E Thunderbirds, Silial Tips out League,
Western Hockey League, that once you signed one of those contracts,
you couldn't play NCAA hockey because you were considered a professional.

(35:39):
Because all those kids have agents, but their agents are
NHL certified, right, because your goal when you play in
that league is to get drafted by the NHL. So
you find an agent and the guy said, and they
recruit them like and usually what it is, it's like Hey,
I'm a seventeen year old just got to Seattle playing
for the t Birds, and you know, oh, I just
got ranked in the Central Hockey you know rankings. They
know I need an agent whatever, And it's pretty simple.

(36:02):
It's like, hey, who do you have? I got this guy?

Speaker 1 (36:05):
Who do you have?

Speaker 4 (36:05):
You meet parents, meet with the agent, and it's three
percent or whatever the hell. The percentage is right and
it's all on board. It's all above the table correct.
Same thing with an NFL player.

Speaker 2 (36:16):
I will say the NFL certification process to be an
agent is not extensive.

Speaker 4 (36:20):
Well, listen, I know a couple of agents in the NHL.
Theirs isn't either, but they still have rules after exactly
even if you.

Speaker 1 (36:26):
Just online a certification.

Speaker 2 (36:28):
We were almost as a joker to do it for
my father in law, who's an attorney, get an NFLPA
certified because it's so easy. But even then it still
is capped at how much you can charge it a client.
It's not some guy off a stoop or off a
street corner who's taking whatever money. And these aren't written contracts, right,
these have been just agreements over DM on Twitter.

Speaker 4 (36:49):
It's there has to be a point where it comes
back and somehow there's something regressing back to the norm,
right like, because what we have going on right now
is just out of control.

Speaker 2 (37:00):
It's just out of it's going to take the college
presidents to do it, and they don't want to do it.

Speaker 1 (37:05):
They're afraid of getting sued.

Speaker 2 (37:06):
And the college the most influential college presidents are benefiting
from the system.

Speaker 4 (37:11):
Chris, you should be a college nil agent for a kid.
You'd be good at it.

Speaker 1 (37:15):
I wouldn't try to steal their money. I'll be honest
and upfront with him. But that's that's why. That's why
you would be good at it. Thank you.

Speaker 4 (37:21):
I mean, and you probably have a lot more clients
because you say, hey, man, i'm taking five percent.

Speaker 1 (37:25):
I'll probably do like four, three or four.

Speaker 4 (37:27):
Yeah, that guy's gonna take that guy's gonna take twenty.
I'm taking five. You get three or four, And all
of a sudden, that math tells me you're right at
the same level as a guy with one dude right,
and hey, and you can funnel all the wise.

Speaker 1 (37:36):
That I'm not gonna lie. I would try to get
as many. I'd be doing my job very well getting coops.

Speaker 4 (37:42):
We've got We've got reports of Chris Kidd up on
up on Bourn and Terry Avenue, up on First Hill.
What's he doing up there? Sounds like he's at oday
right now.

Speaker 5 (37:50):
What it's funny. I'll be at the Assembly tomorrow. My
my homie was like, hey, you got to come through
the Assembly tomorrow, and I was like, I will be there.
What times the Assembly you'll be doing the show?

Speaker 4 (38:01):
I won't be there. I'm not invited. Money didn't invite me.
Tell mony.

Speaker 1 (38:03):
I said, Hi, Well, I'll give you a call. You
can put me on air and we can just have
a couple of kids jump. We've done that before. I
heard your post King, it was awesome. I love that.
I love this lesson.

Speaker 5 (38:12):
Though sometimes Chris just go on mute and just communicate
via text because I would. I forgot that people could
be swearing. That didn't cross my mind at all, because
I would just in the moment, I know.

Speaker 4 (38:21):
It's ten o'clock, I'm probably you're fine.

Speaker 1 (38:24):
You know that's a fair point. That's a good stuff.
What do you have today?

Speaker 4 (38:29):
John Ryan's gonna join us weekly visit twelve twenty today
Brandon Huffman Portal Palooza.

Speaker 1 (38:35):
We just had half fun a week ago to talk
about a letter.

Speaker 4 (38:38):
Well, I guess it's National signing Day now, not letter
of intent National sign Day.

Speaker 5 (38:41):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (38:41):
One week later, portal Palooza with him, who's in, who's out,
who's leaving, who's going, who's staying. We'll find out for
the local schools, for you, doublazoo and more and more.
Chris Crawford's gonna join me at one thirty. We're one
third of the Malli, one half of the Malliwan. We're
just gonna quickly go through this. I just text him say, Hey,
everyone's screaming, yelling about the Mariner. They're not doing anything.

Speaker 1 (39:01):
What are they doing? They're on the red zone. Whatever.

Speaker 4 (39:03):
I'll lean on Chris, give me some names of realistic
people they should be pursuing and what could.

Speaker 1 (39:09):
They actually do?

Speaker 4 (39:10):
Like, okay, that's what we're gonna ask. Like, I like,
let's find out what's realistic. Who's out there with none
of us know the names or what's realistic or not.
So we'll do that with him. We'll molly wap next week.
We'll do that at one thirty. How about this, Chris,
You're gonna like this. Isaiah watts All right, one of
the best talkers in all of college basketball. Man, he's

(39:30):
gonna join us coming up to two twenty tags or
red hots. We'll talk to him as well. That was
a good win for them and Boise to them man
Nevada last week, two quad one.

Speaker 1 (39:38):
Right, Nevada and Boise. I don't get him somewhere.

Speaker 4 (39:41):
It's two more quad win wins they had this time
last year when they were at large.

Speaker 1 (39:45):
There you go.

Speaker 4 (39:45):
That's all coming up a right.

Speaker 2 (39:46):
Music's done. Thanks Chris rh Kind and I thank you
for listening. We'll be here again tomorrow. I'll be doing
