World Trade Center, the Hudson River. Funny day in New
Yorker's the Kid back in the studios at Elliott Bay
and Downtown Seattle. Go morning, Chris, Good morning g Bell.
We got through whatever that was to start the show.
Sorry for the delay, but now we're back on here
(02:44):
in ninety three point three KJR feminis cors Light Shoes, Chill,
Monday County down to Monday Night football the Browns at
the Broncos in Denver, five to fifteenth tonight on ninety
three point three KJR FM. Well, the belief is real
inside the Seahawks defense and in the locker room. That's
how I got out of yesterday's What a crazy game
(03:05):
that was in the meadow ends Brookie head coach Mike
McDonald is really making Leonard Williams play like an all pro.
I'll explain exactly how McDonald tricked Aaron Rodgers into the
game's winning play yesterday. Beautiful. We'll break that down.
Speaker 4 (03:23):
That's just that man. I know he said you're breaking down,
but Greg, that was Can we say beautiful again?
Speaker 5 (03:28):
Yeah? Six fen pound nose tackle fulling a twenty year
All Pro NFL MVP quarterback, change the game. We'll talk
about what Mike McDonald did on that. Leonard Williams picks
the first time Leonard Wims ever scored a touchdown. He
said it's the longest he's ever run in his life,
ninety two yards, the longest touchdown by a defensive tackle
(03:51):
on an interception, and the NFL had it was. That
was a wild play. The Washington Huskies football team got
routed at number one Oregon and Eugenie as we feared
they may crack and lost back to back games against
league is one of the worst the teams in the league.
Ten thirty, we're gonna talking Mike Benton, our weekly visit
with the cracking pre and post game and intermission hosts
(04:13):
here on ninety three point three. KJRFM will join us
at ten thirty as he does every Monday at eleven o'clock.
Chris Francis Fox thirteen. Seattle will join us, he is,
he'll give us more of a tell us what he
saw in the rest of the league. Yesterday was when
I was so immersed in Seahawks jets here in New York,
the NFC West. Chris just keeps breaking the Seahawks way,
entering another big one Seattle at Arizona this coming weekend.
(04:37):
Factor fiction, last chance to do it this week five
days and then the contest is over. Chris. I know
I was two and zero. Army team and pride and
dream did it again. How were you?
Speaker 4 (04:47):
Oh, I'm done with the Bengals. Man that was unbelievable.
Had a chance to make a little bit of noise,
and then Russell Wilson is back there. I say, just
had a really good game and went on the road
and got the W.
Speaker 5 (05:00):
So I told you not to pick against the Steelers.
Left thirty five picking your chance to win one thousand
dollars from the ammer Quinkers. They've having thirty year texts
to read back on the telemorone text line four nine,
four to five one. When it's game time, It's Tully time.
Right now, it's time for headlines. Brought to you by
Frost food, cors lightsho's chill. Seahawks, Man, they just made
an absolute mess of themselves in the game in the
(05:22):
first half yesterday in the middle as I've been doing
this since two thousand in the NFL, and I don't
know if I've seen a first half as just backwards
as that. That was just puff the hook. Three fumbled
kickoff returns, two of them which led the Jets touchdowns,
a block extra point better Williams face mass penalty. People
forgot what the game that Lender Williams had that his
face mask penalty in the first quarter, a sack and
(05:43):
Aaron Rodgers back at midfield led to two Jets touchdowns.
The drive that he extended and then the kickoff that
ensued after touching. It wouldn't have happened to Lender Williams's
face mask penalty. Twenty one to seven Jets New York
at the Seahawks nine yard line when Aaron Rodgers he
missed a throw normally makes in his sleep overthrow Garrett
Wilson and beaten Josh job on a fader out on
(06:04):
the right side of the end zone. I mean, Chris,
I've covered him for twenty years. He can make that
with his eyes closed, and he missed it by three yards.
Should have been a touchdown. Next play, Leonard Williams did
this Seahawks load the.
Speaker 2 (06:18):
Mine, agains, bring closer Rodgers has it kicked up?
Speaker 3 (06:21):
Naded Williams.
Speaker 6 (06:23):
Just a second year simptional big house career.
Speaker 3 (06:27):
Is he gonna take it to the house.
Speaker 4 (06:29):
His own house special.
Speaker 5 (06:31):
Is a quick six and he flips the game.
Speaker 1 (06:35):
But I do play.
Speaker 5 (06:41):
What's interesting about that call? Adam? I mean Fox Sports,
and the Fox Sports come up it and broadcast yesterday.
He said, the Seahawks are loading the line, and they did,
and that's what Rogers read. And then Leonard Williams drops
off from those tackle cuts in front of the Garrett
Wilson in route. We'll break this down later in the show.
But Chris, instead of twenty eight to seven, was twenty
one thirteen. New York never came close to scoring a game.
(07:03):
Letter Williams said after the game that at the fifty
yard line he was looking for someone the latter on
the ball back too, because he was already so tired.
And he said he heard Devin Witherspoon screaming at him
to keep running, and the whole sideline to see ox side.
I had to keep running, so he kept running. He
got letter. Wiams gets to the end zone ninety two
yards later Kobe Williams Kobe Bryant, excuse me, jumps on
(07:27):
his back and Williams said that when Brian jumped on
his back, he said, can we just lay down? And
so they did laid down in the end zone. He
was exhausted. I had my binoculars on him all the
way to the sideline. Guys are trying to congratulate and
pat him in the back, and he just b lined
to the oxygen tank and he was sucking on that
ocgen for about ten minutes hard. The first time he's
(07:51):
ever had a touchdown twenty eight to seven. Instead of that,
the Jets could have taken a three score. He'd probably
put the game away instead twenty one thirteen. Jets didn't
even come close to scoring again. Rogers was terrible. Jets
gave Seattle two first downs on fourth downs, the gift
the Seahawks to go ahead. TDS ex Chevrone's run eight
yards with five and a half minutes after then Williams
(08:12):
two sacks in the final drive to Clint at twenty
six twenty one, seahawks third straight win. Mike McDonald after
the game, Well, what.
Speaker 7 (08:21):
A crazy game. I think that like the first time
ever that ever happened in the NFL. Like the whole
series of events in the first half. Uh, but our
you know, our guys are resilient, and we didn't we
didn't bat and eye. We stayed you know, stayed the course.
There's some crazy, you know, sequences events that just happened,
and but you know, you got to stick to the plan.
You got to stay together, and our guys did that,
(08:42):
and then to be able to close it out was
was awesome for us. Obviously a lot of things. Obviously,
we've got to clean up on really all three phases.
We've got to protect the ball better in the in
the kicking game for sure, so we'll definitely review that
and that'd be great too. We need to be able
to convert in the black zone, uh, you know, the
low red zone on offense. So but it's great to
(09:02):
be able to close it out as a great drive
at the end by our offense. We nominated Dicko as
the honorary player of the game for not being available
for us having to go for it on fourth down,
but in all seriousness, I mean, do you want to, like,
just officially, I don't know how this works, but if
we can nominate Leonard Williams for Player of the week,
He's just playing at all time elite level and you know,
(09:24):
to have a pick six. I think they told me
he's going about seventeen and a half miles an hour,
which was pretty fast for a man that size.
Speaker 1 (09:31):
So he's playing that.
Speaker 7 (09:33):
He's playing his mind out of his mind right now.
Speaker 4 (09:36):
DICKO is Michael Dixon, the punter who's yeah, they gotta
they gotta change that. That's that's terrible. I as soon
as he said that, there there's no need.
Speaker 5 (09:46):
Just don't.
Speaker 4 (09:48):
Yeah, I'm not with dick O.
Speaker 5 (09:49):
Sorry. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (09:51):
Are you liking Michael Dixon's nickname of Dicko.
Speaker 5 (09:54):
I'm out his other. His other nickname is big Balls
from from running on his own goal line and Detroit
a few years ago was not supposed to be a
fake punt. First time Aaron Rodgers has lost the game
at home leading by fourteen or more points. He had
been seventy eight o at Lambeau Field for the Packers
(10:14):
and then in MetLife Stadium for the Jets until yesterday. Chris.
He looked like he should have retired in the fourth quarter.
He was done. He turns forty one today and the Seahawks,
I mean he at one point was fourteen for twenty
eight passing. This is the most efficient quarterback in NFL history.
Was fourteen for twenty eight passing against Seattle. The Seahawks
really pressed them early in the game with coverage. They
(10:37):
used big nickel with Rayshawn Jenkins, and then McDonald switched
it up later the game. They played off more. They
had Witherspoon as the nickel. Moore very defense. Again. We're
starting to see Mike McDonald do what he's did with Baltimore,
changing disguising in in games, and he did it with
Lenner Williams pick six. It's starting to come together. It
(10:58):
took months, but it's starting to come together the way
Mike McDonald's he didn't say Chris, but he loves Winna. Yeah,
the offense is broken, the kicking games was terrible, but
he loves that.
Speaker 4 (11:09):
You mentioned Aaron Rodgers looked old. How many throws did
you watch and say, wow? Three years ago that was
a first down, a touchdown. He missed Davante Adams on
multiple throws. He threw it behind me. Yeah, so sure
the Seahawks dogs a bullet there. But back to what
Mike McDonald defensively, and he's what he's doing with this team.
(11:30):
You are definitely seeing some of those things pop out.
And you mentioned the Leonard Williams play. You know how
many players rushed in on that play. Three simulated pressure
Aaron Rodgers sixer on the line at the snap eight
or in coverage. Leonard Williams does a phenomenal job of
just getting his hands up because for the most part,
when Aaron Rodgers is pressured, his hot red is a
(11:53):
slant over the middle behind the linebacker, especially if he
sees him creeping up. And Mike McDonald's playing chess there
and he knew, Okay, Aaron Rodgers loved these slant routes,
these quick patterns across the middle.
Speaker 5 (12:06):
If we can get.
Speaker 4 (12:07):
Jay Reid or Leonard Williams there and get a hand up,
we can get a pass defense, get a PBu a
pass breakup. And they got something even more better. They
got a pick and a touchdown. So they put up
points on the board to cut the deficit. The twenty
one to thirteen and that was just a huge momentum
swing because if the Jets get anything, if they get three,
you're looking at a turn. It's really it's really hard
(12:29):
to dig out of that. Not to mention, the Jets
get the ball to start the second half.
Speaker 5 (12:34):
So that was that's why the game was over that too,
so go ahead, No, exactly, that's why the game would
have been over, and we'll talk more about exactly. I
talked to Mike McDonald, who was pretty coy about the
scheme on the Leonard Williams pick six. I didn't expect him.
They answer it, and then Leonard Williams will talk to
him as well, and we'll break that down a little bit.
(12:55):
Right before, we talked to Chris Rancis eleven oclock rest
of the NFC West. Yesterday, Cardinals bliue the lead lay Boston, Minnesota.
The Cardinals haven't beaten the Vikings in Minnesota since nineteen
seventy seven.
Speaker 4 (13:05):
Oh my goodness, how many games is that ring?
Speaker 5 (13:08):
Many that old Metropolitan Stadium outdoors? But grant is the
last time the Cardinals, when they were in San Louis
beats the Vikings in Minnesota. I was seven years old.
That's old. That was Arizona drops to six and six.
The Rams Raley do a twenty one to fourteen win
in New England to get to six and six. Forty
nine Ers lost Christian McCaffery to get another injury, and
the game in a blizzard at Buffalo thirty five ten
(13:30):
to fall to five and seven. The wheels are coming
off in San Francisco. They're talking about firing Kyle Shanahan
bench and everybody. It's coming down in a heap right now. Boy,
is that not the most predictable loss ever in the NFL?
Last night we saw the snow in Buffalo, forty nine
Ers won and cheese aren't fuill for that. Seahawks There.
Cardinals for the NFC West leads Sunday and Glendale Arizona.
(13:52):
If Seattle can win again for the second time in
three weeks over Arizona, it would take essentially a three
game lead on the Cardinals because they swept Arizona in
the season series. If they went on Sunday. Two injuries
from the game yesterday, DK Metcalf left with the leg injury.
You saw him. He went into the tenth came right
back out like Superman in a cape. Put his helmet
(14:12):
on him right back onto the field and this two
plays and finished the game. We mentioned Michael Dixon's back
spasms unavailable at punt. McDonald said that's why they had
the offense go for it on fourth and six of
his own thirty three with nine and a half minutes left.
Then the Jets became The Jets had twelve men on
the field to make it fourth and one. Then a
defensive passing faired's penalty on Metcalf to convert the fourth
(14:32):
down for twenty yards. It would seem Metcalf and Dixon
should be back to play in Arizona, I would think,
although they may not practice much this week. Also in
the NFL yesterday, Chris said he get burned by the
Steelers four hundred yard passing game from Russell Wilson. That
it was twenty fourteen again, this his fourth career four
hundred yard game. Early picked six. Wilson gave up to
(14:55):
put the Steelers behind in Cincinnati, and then the Steelers
scored forty four points for the Steelers Pittsburgh people are
not used to forty four points in a month from
their offense. Pittsburgh beat the Bengals in Cincinnati and on
nine to three of the Steelers are a game and
a half up on Baltimore in the AFC North because
the Eagles kept rolling and beat the Ravens in Baltimore.
(15:15):
It's Eagles and Lions and everybody else at the NFC
right now, Crack, I remember tonight five point fifteen, since
Cleveland trying to derail the upstart Denver Broncos and take
the Broncos back in the playoff race at five to fifteen,
crack and lost two games over the week in the
San Jose away and home. Jeff can't get rolling. Two
steps forward and two steps back. We'll talk to Mike
(15:37):
ben in a few minutes on our weekly visit with him.
Every Monday, Sounders lost the MLS Western Conference Finals one
nothing to the La Galaxy, allowing the only goal in
the eighty fifth minute. Galaxy and Red Bulls MLS Finals
On Saturday, college football manded Ohio State face plan. They
had everything right in front of them, a rematch with
(15:57):
Oregon for the Big Ten title game, and they lose
to Michigan four in a round. Ryan Day has lost
to Michigan. That's what got John Cooper fired in Columbus.
A long long time ago. He couldn't beat Michigan. Irvin
Meyer did it, and that's why he's a sainted hero
for all his faults in Ohio. But now Ryan Day,
for all he's done zero to four to Michigan, he's
(16:18):
only lost Ryan Day one big ten game in all
his tenure beside Michigan. So High State face plants Texas
big win on the road to Texas A and N
to set up Texas versus Georgia. I don't know if
you saw Chris that Georgia Tech Georgia game that went
eight overtimes Friday night. Did wild Georgia Texa to run
the ball earlier in the overtimes, probably would have won
(16:39):
the game. Instead, Georgia keeps it ups live for a playoff. Berth,
you know that the three loss se teams, the SEC
team is going to get in this playoff. You just
know it. It's been set up that way. It's gonna
tick everybody off. It is just gonna happen. Boise State
UNLV is gonna be the Mountain West Championship game and
basically a college football playoff game. The winner that game's
(17:00):
going to get in the college football playoff. The Heisman
Trophy race is pretty much down to Travis Hunter and
Johntavire running back from Boise State. The trophy will be
given out this weekend coming up here in Manhattan. And
the Washington Huskies we mentioned lost to Oregon. They weren't
even in the game. They started freshman DeMont Williams. How
would you like to be a fresh seen sixty years
(17:23):
senior quarterback transferred from Mississippi State and then not even
play in the rivalry the biggest game of the year
at Oregon. See how the Huskies go down to the
Ducks and Washington State lost at home to Wyoming. It's
coming apart at the end of the season yet again
for Washington State eight and four. Now they'll be heading
to a bowl game. College basketball quickly u be Colorado
(17:45):
State and Santa Clair in Palm Springs over Thanksgiving and
improved to six and one. They play at UCLA tomorrow
night at seven thirty. Washington State men's basketball lost to
SMU and Palm Springs Wednesday to fall to six and two. Tonight,
the Cook's men are in Reno to play Nevada four
nine four five one. Tell them we'll do text by
my question to you, how do you feel about this
the Seahawks now? Four weeks ago you wanted to fire
(18:07):
Mike McDonald, some of you, Gino Smith should be traded
or cut. Now they are in first place seven and five?
How do you feel about the Seahawks? Is this sustainable?
They can win with defense? Mike McDonald's proven it. What
you feel about the Seahawks now and whether they can
get to and win playoff games if they win the
division again, they're going to have home playoff games, whether
they deserve it versus the rest of the NFC or not.
(18:29):
That's how it works, and they are now, at least
for now, in the driver's seat with five games remaining
in the regular season. Coming up next, Mike Benton's going
to catch us up on what happened in the cracking
weekend against Lolly San Jose, our weekly visit with the
pre and postgame host for ninety three point three KJRFM.
It's up next at eleven o'clock. We'll talk to Chris Francis,
(18:51):
the Fox thirteen Seattle about what he saw in the
Seahawks game and around the NFL yesterday, seven thirty five

Speaker 5 (19:29):
Welcome back to the show. Greg bellin News Tribune, A
little tired still in New York City after covering Seahawks
twenty six Jets twenty one yesterday. Chris Kid back in
the studio in ELIAFA and Seattle. Here on ninety three
point three KGFM with frostbreued cours like Choose Chill Monday,
counting you down to Monday Night Football Cleveland at Denver
to night five fifteen here on your KJR stations. The
(19:52):
belief is returning to the Seahawks defense. We're going to
talk more about Leonard Williams and how Mike mcconnald schemed
him into the play of his wife yesterday. Will break
that play down and why it pled Aaron Rodgers, the
rookie coach thirty seven years old, four years younger than
the quarterback hold Aaron Rodgers into the decisive play of
yesterday's game. We'll break that down right after we talked
(20:13):
Cracking hockey. You're home of the crack in here in
ninety three point three KJRFM. You heard this weekend the
Kraken two games against San Jose, lost them both. Not
exactly where this team wants to be at this point
of its development in the first year coach Dan Bosma
losing two in a row to one of the worst
teams in the league. Mike Benton was all over it.
Her pre and post game host, intermission host Captain Hockey
(20:37):
Mike Benton joined us as he does every Monday, on
the Speaking Plumbing Hoighline.
Speaker 6 (20:41):
Hello, Mike, Hey, Greg, Good morning, How are you, Bud Okay.
Speaker 5 (20:46):
Good morning? It's mid afternoon here in New York. Wow,
I was here in New York City. What happened to
the Kraken? I mean, you look and see they lose
two in a row to San Jose. Are there any
silver linings to talk about? Or is this just it's
a bad weekend all around.
Speaker 6 (21:03):
Well, I'll start with the silver lining part, and there's
not much to it, to be honest with you. It's
the fact that you know the crack and get Jared
McCann back into you know, at least getting one on
the board, because he had been struggling over the last
six games or so to get a goal. But it
was during that at that point in time where a
game was still very much out of reach against San Jose,
(21:24):
and I think Greg, we're at the point. To borrow
the line from Curtis Craptree who was on our post
game after Saturday, it's situation break glass in case of emergency.
They had four winnable games last week. San Jose's better,
but they're not the Florida Panthers. They began the season
oh seven and two. They've now caught up with the
(21:46):
Kraken at twenty three points. They swept them last week.
Goaltending was maybe the most vulnerable that we've ever seen,
to be honest with you. They gave up eleven goals
in two games. So offensively they're getting pug touches, but
they're not finishing. And that was the biggest complaint after
two nights ago, the execution part. So you're heading into
(22:07):
four games in six days, Greg, now on the road
where you've got Carolina, the Islanders, the Devils, and the Rangers,
three legit teams who are in contention right now in
the Eastern Conference. So it shouldn't be a surprise that
Jared McCann tend to at a player's only meeting that
might be on the table, because if this trip takes
a nose eye, the outlook's got a big potential here
(22:30):
to turn from concerning to bleak. And we're at the
point now where teams are starting to separate themselves from
the pack the crack and are five points back of
the Western Conference cutline, and they've really got to get
a going. Now.
Speaker 5 (22:43):
What seems to be this you mentioned goaltending, I mean
they give it was eight five to the Sharks, five
to two to the Ducks, four to two to the Sharks.
I mean the week it was cracking beat the Ducks
on Monday three to two and then lose five to
two to Anaheim on Wednesday. It was eight five to
the Sharks on Friday four two. I mentioned on Saturday
(23:04):
at home to the Sharks. Is you mentioned the goaltending,
they've gone, They've decided it's Joey to Cord. Does that
seem like that's going to change. Is it going to
go back up in the open competition with Philip Grubauer.
Speaker 6 (23:17):
Well, I think right now that it's stilled Joey to
Cord's net because he's done such a phenomenal job for
about the span of a month in putting together a
great stretch of games right now. And you know, for
Philip Grubauer to go what he went through, you know,
it was it was kind of surprising with the San
Jose game that was back on Black Friday, where he
(23:38):
gave up seven goals in that game and you kind
of maybe three or four very stoppable shots right now. So,
you know, I think if you touch back on, you know,
the ultimate underlying part of the issue. You know, it's
just a whole cacophony of them right now. Greg. I
mean there's one game where they say they you know
you they they say, and you observe that they're not
(23:58):
playing as connected getting out of their own zone. Then
there are times like you know, say two nights ago,
where they've got the puck a lot and they were
unable to finish, and the San Jose comes right back
and you know, exposes blown covers and scores in a
two on one, or you have you know, Joey to
court that has one leak right on by him. And
there was of course the power play issue that finally
(24:20):
short itself up back on Fridays. So I mean, ultimately
it comes right back down to do you have goaltending
day in and day out to sustain mistakes right now
and the crack and have to get right back to that.
They're still trying to find their sea legs, if you will,
with their game here at this point. But I look
at that number one and I think as well, when
(24:42):
you play in a close stretch of games, there have
been hints that they've got to, you know, find themselves
to be a little bit more ready and be a
little bit more on time and play you know, a
crisp brand of hockey. That's kind of the phrase and
that we heard heading into the game two nights ago here,
which is kind of the reason why they're going right
back to the table here as a hittership group and
saying what's going on. We have to, you know, fix
(25:05):
this right now or else.
Speaker 5 (25:09):
Cracking time for last in the Pacific Division with Anaheim
and San Jose when they lost three of four to two. Mike,
we talked a lot about Brandon Montour and his offensive defenseman,
his right handed shot from the blue line out he
was coming in and scoring goals nearer than that. Are
they too offensive with their defenseman right now? Could that
be part of the issue too well?
Speaker 6 (25:32):
I think if he were to look at Brandon Montour
and the chances that he's giving up and the amount
of goals that he's scored, and if it's heavily weighing
in the negative, Greg, then you're looking at, you know,
a case of do you ask him a dial of back,
but you're taking out a big piece of your offense
attention if you were to do something like that. And
players fit into certain spots for a reason. What Brandon
(25:54):
Montour is so good after his game is that he's
able to move the puck but also have the rains
and the hockey iq to be able to draw right
back out of that and then essentially find in space
and get back on defense and Backsheck as well. And
I think there are certain times where you know you
ask got to the gambler. That's not Brandon Montor's game.
(26:17):
You know, we we've rarely seen anything that even hints
at him, you know, trying to cheat a certain play,
to try to, you know, look for more offense when
it's not there. So you know, I would honestly say
that he's a piece of your concerns here at this point.
And if if I kind of go back here to
the silver lining part, to get Vince Done back into
(26:37):
this lineup is absolutely huge. You know, it didn't work
out two nights ago, but what he's going to do
long term is lengthen this team's lineup with players who
can move the pot, with players who can you know,
have a good presence of mind to play an effective
two way game at two hundred feet, you know, one
end to the very other. Done fits that mold. Montur
(26:59):
fits that mold. And seeing Riker Evans as well come
out of that mold right now, it has been one
of I think one of the most underrated young defensemen
in this league, and he's having a fine standout season.
So putting dun back in there will take a little
more heat off of random Montour, a little more heat
off of Riker Evans, and you can find a balance
and a baseline to be able to build your game
(27:20):
right back up from there.
Speaker 5 (27:23):
Mike Benton, our guy on the crack in trying to
find some silver. Lying r Evans is won something. Joey
Decord is who they may out to stick with and goal.
Here's the road ahead for the Kraken at Hurricanes, the
Stanley Cup contender tomorrow four pm at Islanders Thursday, of
playoff contender at Devil's Friday, another playoff contender at Rangers
in Medicine Square Garden here in Manhattan on Sunday. Oh,
(27:47):
but then they get to come home to the Stanley
Cup champion Panthers, then Bruins, then Lightning.
Speaker 6 (27:55):
They don't get right, Mike, don't get any easier now. Yeah,
we are heading into the teeth of this season, Mike.
Speaker 5 (28:05):
Appreciate it. We'll talk to you next week, if not before,
Thank you, sir.
Speaker 6 (28:09):
Yeah, appreciate it. Hey, save some first class to stake
here for all of us once you fly back home. Okay, Greg,
if you only knew Mike sex a lot. Mike Benton,
our weekly guests of Cracking Hockey on Mondays at ten thirty,
joining us in the Deacon Plumbing Hotline. After a lost weekend,
really a last week, playing Anaheim and San Jose, four
(28:31):
games they should win, they lost three of them. They've
lost three straight to fall the last place type for
the last in the Pacificas and heading out on a
road trip now to Carolina, the Islanders, the Devils, and
the Rangers. Tough week ahead for the Crack and you
hear all those games here on the Home of the
Crack in ninety three point three KJRFM beginning tomorrow night
and Raleigh Cracking and Hurricanes four pm. Pucked Up three
point thirty with Mike benon pregame show on ninety three
(28:52):
point three KJRFM.
Speaker 5 (28:54):
Up next, we're gonna break down how Mike McDonald fooled
Aaron Rodgers, a thirty seven year old rookie coach, fold
the forty one year old MVP quarterback for the game
turning play that has the Seahawks in first place in
the NFC West. We'll break that down. We'll read back
to text at eleven thirty and tell them we're do
text signed four nine four five one. How do you
feel about the Seahawks and Mike McDonald can the defense
alone carry this team to the division title and into
(29:16):
the playoffs. We'll be back to text at eleven thirty
five or fixtion at eleven thirty five Chris Francis, Fox thirteen,
Seattle at eleven o'clock. All that more coming up next
to Mean Grego's Show with Christopher Kidd rolls on here
from Manhattan, New York City on ninety three point three KJRFM. Hi,
(29:40):
welcome back to Greg Bell's Show with Christopher Kidd. Rolls
on here from New York City on ninety three point
three KJARFM. I'm still here for accosting this show for
you before I get on a plane and head back
from Seahawks twenty one Jets Zer twenty six. Jets twenty
one coach Mike McDonald said on his day after radio
show this morning that outside linebacker Chenna and Wosu could
(30:02):
come off injured reserves sooner than later. He's eligible too.
He's about four days into his twenty one day practice
window that they can activate him anytime. During McDonald this
morning and his Coaches show said quote, call it an
outside chance for us to see him this week. That
is Sunday against Arizona Cardinals and Seahawks on Sunday for
(30:22):
the NFC West League, with five games reminning in the
regular season in Man Chris, that would be a boon
for a defense that's rolling to get back, not just
the pass rushing of your Chenn and Wilson, but the
ability to stop, to run and set the edge against
the Cardinals running game that had just forty nine rushing
yards last week in Seattle. So I'll be watching for
that all week. Chenn and Wosu ramping up his practicing
(30:44):
and hopes and efforts to play on Sunday Seahawks at Cardinals. Yesterday,
the play of Leonard Williams's life was the play of
the game. We talked about how it swung a game
that could him in twenty eight to seven Jets into
a twenty one thirteen game and the Jets never scored again.
Set the scene third and seven at the Jets, not
(31:06):
at the Seahawks nine. The Jets had the ball up
twenty one to seven late second quarter and Aaron Rodgers
gets to the line of scrimmage and he sees Leonard Williams,
who'd spent most of the first half at the end
as the nose tackle right over the center, and then
at the snap he saw Leonard Williams go into his guard,
(31:27):
his right guard. So the read there is okay, I'm checking,
there's no defensive lineman dropping into coverage and it's Chris mentioned.
One of the pet plays that they have, the Jets
have and Aaron Rodgers had for decades is a quick
slant against blitz. And DeVante Adams came to the Jets
from the Packers this season or from the Raiders this season,
(31:49):
who had been with the Packers and all that time
with Aaron Rodgers, and to run this play a hot
read against the blitz. So he doesn't see Leonard Williams coming,
he sees pressure with a stack front and Rodgers checks
off that Lennon Wims part of the coverage plan. Well,
Mike McDonald schemed for Lennon Williams to basically feign pass rushing,
(32:11):
make contact with the guard, and then drop into coverage
over that slant area in the middle of the field.
That's what he did.
Speaker 2 (32:17):
Leonard Williams never he was in the middle of the
field all alone and right in front of Garrett Wilson
and Aaron Rodgers after game said I never saw him,
and that's because he had checked in that he was
Williams with pass rushing. He did not let no way
in the twenty years that Aaron Rodgers has played quarterback,
(32:38):
three time MVP, s Super Bowl MVP, never did he
expect six, five, three ten Leonard Williams on that particular
play to be in the center of the field he
was throws tip pass, Williams takes off running the other way,
only lineman and Aaron Rodgers to beat, and he does
that for a ninety two yard touchdown. It becomes a
twenty one to thirteen game completely swung, and the Seahawks
are in first place.
Speaker 5 (32:59):
After the game, first I talked to Mike McDonald about
the scheme. He is the side Chris. On the way
to the press conference, he said, why don't you all
have me a couple of softballs today? Greg? After a
while while that game wasn't I just kind of chuckled,
and I thought, Okay, he's not gonna like this question.
I'm going to ask him about the scheme and why
on that particular down that he dropped Leonard Williams into coverage,
(33:23):
he gave a very playful choy. I'm not revealing anything response.
Speaker 7 (33:27):
How often does the nose drop? We just tell everybody, Hey,
yos two drops a game, so you can rush the
rest of the time.
Speaker 5 (33:36):
Yeah right. He did it because he knew Aaron Rodgers
wouldn't see him, and he knew Aaron Rodgers would read
pressure and throw the quick slam. That's why he did
it at that particular moment. Checkmate thirty seven year old
Mike McDonald beating forty one year old Aaron Rodgers. But
basically the game on the line right there. That's why
(33:59):
the seahawksired Mike McDonald this offseason to be a first
time youngest coach in the NFL. Leonard Williams after the
get besides talk about how tired he was and he
wanted to pitch the ball back at the fifty yard line.
I asked him about that particular play in the trickery
that Mike McDonald's schemes are.
Speaker 3 (34:20):
Our technique isntil I rushed the touch, so I rushed
the guard. As soon as I get hands on him,
he thinks I'm coming, and then last second I pop
out and the ball just happened to be in arms
reach and I just pretty much stuck my arm out
poked it out and I got a lucky bounce that
went straight up in the air and gave me time
to catch it.
Speaker 5 (34:43):
Letter Williams yesterday in his old home field. Incidentally, Chris,
the Seahawks. Now you may know this some Seahawks fans
of the Seahouks, and I was seven to zero in
that stadium, the New Meadowlands MetLife Stadium. They've stayed in
the same hotel, Jersey City at the Weston every time,
including the Super Bowl that they bushwhack the Broncos and
(35:07):
Peyton Manning. They have stayed in the same hotel every
time because they're superstitious to think that they are undefeated
seven to zero because they're staying at the same Jersey
City west In about ten minutes from the stadium. A
big win yesterday that keeps them on track three wins
in a row, seven and five, Chris. They're believing they're
(35:27):
flawed offensively. They were absolutely flawed in the kicking game,
and the defense won the game. Again.
Speaker 4 (35:32):
Don't know how much longer the defense can win games
for them, but you get a ten uwosu back that
helps your case, so hopefully the offense can man can
they score over twenty points next week against the Arizona Cardinals.
That should be that should be goal one. Let's get
twenty points or more guys twenty one, that's our goal.
Can we get twenty one points? The defense they have
been shutting teams down. The Jets didn't score again after
(35:56):
that first quarter. I think that was it. They didn't
have any more offensive touchdowns. They could move the football.
They the Seahawks defense really clamped down. So can the
offense help out? Hey, offense, I don't know, run the
football a little better. A bunch of things they have
to do differently. But my goodness, we talked about Gino
Smith being a hero and all that. Yeah, the defense
(36:18):
has been the hero the last three weeks.
Speaker 5 (36:22):
The offense, Ryan Greb has decided that his short yardage
back is zach Scharbona and not Kenneth Walker. Noticeable again,
just like it was against Arizona that in your short
yardage situations it was Sharbonnay and he went nowhere twice
once at the one yard line once and fourth down
in the middle of the field went nowhere. And yet
they still go with number twenty six over number nine
(36:45):
in short yardage. Tons to talk about what him even
gotten to on the offense yet, But I hear you
on the text line four nine four five one. When
it's game time, it's Telly time to tell them. We'll
do text line about the short yardage and where's Kenneth Walker?
Why is it Zach Sharbonay. I mentioned it again Arizona.
The same thing happened yesterday against the Jets. Up next,
Chris Francis Fox thirteen Seattle then talked about talk to
(37:07):
us of his impressions of the Seahawks being would win
yesterday here in New York, and about the NFL or
rest of the NFL. And I didn't get to watch
because I'm too busy doing Seahawks Jets. We'll talk to
Chris next at eleven thirty. We'll reback your text. It
puts you as a part of the show. And eleven
thirty five factor fiction your chance to win one thousand
dollars from the Emeral Queen Casino. Army is ten and
one on this show, next to its win in the
(37:30):
under in the game against Texas and Antonio to put
Army in the American Athletic Conference title game against Tulane
at West Point just blows my mind at West Point
is hosting a conference title game in national primetime TV
on a Friday night. We'll talk about you can take
an idea where I'm headed, if not today this week
on Factor Fixing, your last chance to win one thousand
(37:52):
dollars this week and last chance to win ten thousand
dollars the last week to the contest. That'll be our
pick at eleven thirty five. Up next to Chris France says,
I'm live from New York City on the great Best show,
a ch History of kid I'm ninety three point three KJRFM.
