Speaker 1 (00:01):
Sir, I'm sixteen years old. I'm just here job.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
Yeah, I'm actually on that.
Speaker 3 (00:06):
John Man, what's the point spread for this O day
Bellvy matchup?
Speaker 2 (00:09):
What you got it at? Oh?
Speaker 1 (00:11):
Okay?
Speaker 3 (00:11):
I think he'll be surprised about that one, So yeah,
I'll throw that at him.
Speaker 1 (00:14):
Yeah. Steubenville, Ohio had bookies on high school football. Hey man.
It was a spot that you could bet at and
they had parlay sheets. One of the play by starting center.
I was a quarterback by starting center. His dad was
definitely into it. That's alaze ye, say, isn't he looks
like he might not play for it? He's gonna play Friday.
You're favored by twenty one.
Speaker 2 (00:35):
I need him to play.
Speaker 3 (00:36):
I got one hundred dollars in the line against some
dad across the way.
Speaker 1 (00:41):
They had actual bookies at it.
Speaker 3 (00:43):
Yes see, I haven't done that, you know. I just
a matter of fact. When I got my haircut, what
was it last week? I saw the Dean Dean McGee
Oda Dean and I said, O Day minus six against
Eastside Catholic and he's like, come on, Chris, we go
handle business. And then after the game I look at
the score, I'm thinking, really, and you was telling me
minus six ain't enough.
Speaker 1 (01:03):
Uh huh, twenty to seven, wasn't it? Let me double
check something like that. The Seahawks have a punter issue.
The team this morning named its nominee for the NFL
Walter Peyton Man of the AAR Award, the most prestigious
award for what players do far beyond the field. A
really good, meaningful NFL Thursday night game. To know, No,
they won. They won by the game winning touchdown. How
(01:24):
did I forget that? It was a very close game?
They won by three twenty seventeen. Yes, something like that.
Speaker 3 (01:29):
Yes, And he tried to tell me that, and six
points in enough. I'm like, bruh. So I'm happy that
I got a ride.
Speaker 1 (01:36):
But nonetheless, John Manley, the news tribute in my colleague,
the best in the state at covering high school football
for newspapers, is going to join us at eleven o'clock
because he has the last few weekends, and you're going

day of the content. What a pressure man it is. Man,
this is your last pick.
Speaker 3 (02:03):
I'm gonna do what you did. I'm gonna pull a
I'm gonna pull a play out of your playbook.
Speaker 1 (02:07):
Man, you're a double dipper.
Speaker 2 (02:09):
Well, I'm just gonna challenge another another show.
Speaker 1 (02:12):
I you do the same thing, I'm gonna do the
same thing.
Speaker 2 (02:14):
Oh, we're dropping arm what we playing? All stuff in
a will barrel?
Speaker 1 (02:18):
Babing. Man, We're going for the first place we've win
the contest this week. The Crack is a cracking game day.
The pregame show tonight is at four o'clock Cracking at Islanders,
not on Long Island, four to thirty. Game time here

tully time. We'll read those back at eleven thirty. I've
got a couple of things that I'll bring up to
you as we go through the headlines. Brought to you
by Frostbrouited cors Light. Choose chill here from Seahawks headquarters,
where it is chilly this morning, Coash. Mike McDonald's back
with the team fully. He left the team money to
(03:00):
be with his wife, Stephanie for the emminent birth of
the first child. He went back and forth from Seahawks
headquarters to his wife, up and down I four five
on Tuesday, and then Tuesday night, little Jack David McDonald
was born. Listen, this is the first time father. He's
thirty seven years old. Listen to how proud and appreciative
new pops is all.
Speaker 4 (03:21):
Right, good to see everybody. Well, I guess kind of
cats out of bag by now. Steph add our boy
last night. Both are happy and healthy.
Speaker 1 (03:28):
Man.
Speaker 4 (03:28):
It's kind of a crazy Steven to say out loud.
We're really excited, really blessed. Obviously, what women can do
is just an unbelievable thing. So what a warrior she is,
and she's awesome. Just now see you here later on
at the hospital. But uh, I think it's an incredible
night and just thankful for everybody at the hospital, the doctors,
the nurses. I mean, those people are A plus plus
and what they do, it's pretty awesome that that's what
(03:50):
they do every day and the stuff they work through.
So really blessed, really excited. I can't wait to see
him again tonight. And here we go.
Speaker 1 (03:59):
As a fellow dad. That really wore my heart there,
I'll appreciative pride, the pride. He's just beaming as he
was talking. He also looked far more awake than I
thought he might be. For the first name the.
Speaker 3 (04:10):
DK say in the press to you guys, Oh he
might have some He's not a won't be a robot anymore.
Speaker 2 (04:15):
He's gonna open up because he has a son.
Speaker 3 (04:17):
Now you're gonna see a little, hopefully the more looseness
with I don't know if I just made that up,
but you're gonna see a more loose Mike McDonald.
Speaker 2 (04:24):
I'm sure.
Speaker 3 (04:24):
Great, you're gonna test he's very Hey, we are doing
a and that's b So now maybe he'll loosen up
and just get to see I don't know.
Speaker 1 (04:31):
Yeah, babies don't go by robot to schedules. He'll learn
that quickly. Right when I said, hey, you look pretty awake.
He said, mad I didn't do anything. My wife was
the one who did everything good for him. He's a
smart man. He's gonna stay married well if he keeps
that up. But the rookie head coach returned yesterday, and
he returned to a punter situation. Place. Kicker Jason Myers
(04:53):
was punting in the start of practice yesterday. Michael Dixon
was standing a few yards away watching that the portion
of practice that's open to the media. Dixon still filling
back spasms those sidelined him in the third quarter Sunday
the team's win at the Jets, the Seahawks listed Dixon
as a limited practice participant Yesterday. Coach McDonald said when
the Seahawks that he said this this week, the Seahawks
(05:14):
are quote optimistic his favorite word, that Dixon will be
able to punt on Sunday at the Cardinals. I asked
McDonald that means, well, then you don't need to sign
a new punter and if necessary, the coach said, well,
that's on the table. So there's still a possibility if
Dixon doesn't respond here end of the league, that the
Seahawks could sign a punter. Well, had John Manley on
(05:37):
the station talking to in Forness on his weekly guest
appearance on Monday, and he said, you don't want a
placekicker punting in a game. But just for you to know,
Myers was booting about forty forty five yards yesterday and
the punts I was seeing him do.
Speaker 2 (05:50):
He meant, John Ryan, But it's okay, John Ryan.
Speaker 1 (05:52):
What I say?
Speaker 2 (05:53):
You said? Are your favorite? Your favorite high school reporter?
Speaker 1 (05:56):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (05:58):
John Ryan, float off the tongue.
Speaker 1 (06:00):
Yeah, thank you. The Seahawks named Chenna and Wosu their
nominee for the twenty twenty four NFL Walter Peyton Man
of the Air Award that's going to be given the
night before the Super Bowl next month. Long history of
men who've done that. Bobby Wagner has been an award winner,
brought Russell Wilson a nominee for the Seahawks Man the
(06:21):
Russell Wilson won the league award a half dozen years
ago or so. You see the little Walter Payton cape
brown patch on Russell Wilson's uniform. That's what that is.
Once you win it, you wear that for the rest
of your career. Tyler Lockett has been a past nominee.
Chenna Wilson was nominated by the Chargers a few years
ago when he was playing for them, soince the second time.
He's done a lot of good work in Southern California,
(06:43):
his home area. He donated. He was part of an
investment of over two million dollars to redo the Carson Library.
They're where he used to play for the Chargers. Here locally,
he's been very active in coat drive for foster children.
He's in Chenna Nuosu, the linebacker, the nominee for Water
Payton Man of the Year, and he maybe turned from
(07:05):
the injured reserve list. He's practicing this week. Mike McDonald
said there's a chance that Nuosu will play, come off
injury reserve and slide into the act active roster spot
that is currently open to play on Sunday against the Cardinals.
The Seahawks have fifty two signed to the fifty three
man roster. They're leaving one spot open. Sounds like they're
weighing whether they're gonna have to sign a new punter
(07:26):
into that spot, and if not, they could have had
in Wilsu to play on Thursday or Sunday at Arizona
DK metcalf the wide receiver, yesterday said he was scared
when he was down hurting the third quarter Sunday at
the Jets. He was asked yesterday if he was seriously hurt.
This is what he said. Did you think that you
were maybe seriously hurt when you went down in the
(07:48):
second half?
Speaker 5 (07:49):
Hell? Yeah, I ain't just gonna sit down there. My
foot went numb. I never felt that. Only other time
I felt that was when I broke my neck was
my arm went numb and it felt like it was
on fire. That same thing that happened in the game.
My foot was numb. Cal Fan came over. He was like,
I was wrong. I was like, bro it feels like
a puddle of blood is in my cleat. And he
just started pressing my foot and he was like, does
that hair?
Speaker 1 (08:09):
I was like no.
Speaker 5 (08:09):
He was like, oh, You're gonna be fine. And then
I was like, all right, bet So what was it?
It was a he hit a perennial nerve in my
knee that shot down to my foot and it was
just like hitting your funny bone.
Speaker 1 (08:21):
Cal Fan is the Seahawks team orthopedic position doctor, ed Calfan.
He was on the field when Metcalf was sitting there.
Tyler Lockett, Kenneth Walker and a couple other guys were
kneeling in concern when Metcalf was down, and they all
for a moment thought that it was a really serious injury.
He said, the only other time he had felt that
is when he had broken his neck his final year
(08:42):
at University of Mississippi twenty eighteen on a kickoff. That
was when he was told he'd never played football again.
He said, it's the only other time he felt an
extremity get numb in the middle of a game, as
he would against the Jets on Sunday. Then he missed
two plays in the blue tent, came walking out like Superman,
taking off his cape and walking onto the field and
as if nothing happened. He said he's fine. So we
(09:05):
also asked him about his shoulder issue that the Seahawks
had listed last week is the reason he'd missed two
practices before the Jets game, and he said, what shoulder?
That was funny.
Speaker 2 (09:15):
Bob was like, you know the sholder, Yeah, what you mean,
I don't know. You tell me all right.
Speaker 1 (09:20):
There. Next the NFL to night the ninety three Packers
at the eleven to one. Lions, Green Bay and Minnesota
comfortably in the wild card spots in the NFC, but
this is the Packers' last chance to catch Roland Detroit
for the NFC North title. Remember, Packers and the ten
and two Vikings play the Seahawks in Lumenfield the next
two weeks after this one. Back to back concerning and
(09:43):
troubling news from the Storm. Storm leading stord Jewel Lloyd,
the WNBA's leading score in twenty twenty three, has asked
the Storm to trader. The Chicago Sun Times reports the
trade request came about an hour or so after yesterday
the Storm announced that an independent investigation a team lined
up after allegations of bullying by coaches this past season
(10:04):
turned up nothing. The Storm said they were those are
unfounded allegation and there's basically nothing to see here. And
then Lloyd asked for a trade, According to Chicago Sun
Times and Sometimes also broke the story in August that
there was an investigation for alleged bullying by Storm coaches
during the past season. Lloyd's a six time All Star
in the franchise player for Seattle. She's under contract through
(10:25):
next year. That's not good. Why is the Chicago Sun
Times Breaking storm stories. Well, Joe Lloyd went to high
school now is West High School outside of Chicago. College
basketball last night, Creighton won at home last night in
Omaha over number one Kansas Duke gave Auburn its first
laws and in Chris's WNBA, his Lakers lost by forty one.
Speaker 2 (10:47):
Excuse me, the WNBA, the Lakers, yet.
Speaker 1 (10:50):
The nbause the NBA. The Lakers lost by forty one.
Speaker 2 (10:54):
That was embarrassing.
Speaker 3 (10:56):
I was watching the game watching Tyler Herowell look like
I don't know Larry Bird, a six foot four version
of him.
Speaker 2 (11:03):
My god, he didn't miss any threes.
Speaker 3 (11:04):
He was incredible, and the Lakers weren't really offering much defensively.
But my goodness, they should arrest Tyler Hero for his
crimes against the Lakers last night. I want him. I
want an apb out. He got to spend at least
twenty four hours in the hell. That was insane. I
just couldn't believe how poorly the Lakers played and how
great Tyler Herroll played.
Speaker 1 (11:25):
What's up with Lebron James. He's had a goal. He
stated he wants to played all eighty two games at
age thirty nine going on forty. Good for him and
his shooting slump continues. It was by forty one.
Speaker 3 (11:36):
Well, I'll tell you this, if it wasn't for Lebron
doing a little bit of everything, they probably would have
lost by sixty one.
Speaker 2 (11:41):
But it's not about Lebron. They had as a team.
They sucked.
Speaker 3 (11:44):
So I turned it off in the fourth quarter when
they were losing by thirty plus, like this is just disgusting.
So yeah, the afternoon was spent watching more films. So
thanks a lot Lakers.
Speaker 1 (11:58):
The Lakers for at my imbed.
Speaker 3 (12:01):
It is on early JJ Reddick might go bald. That's
how much stress he is going to endure it. My
man had black hair in the summer and now his
hair is white, black and white. It is crazy how
much stress he has had since he has joined the Lakers.
Speaker 1 (12:16):
The head coach, what's a stress? He just rolls the
balls out and let them millionaires play. I don't know.
Speaker 3 (12:23):
I think he tries to coach, but it's you got
a lot of time you get Lebron James to deal with.
That's that's enoughing in itself, and then you're trying to
win a championship on top of that it's been four
years since they won it. I don't see it happening again.
So good luck to you, JJ, you have a challenge ahead.
Speaker 1 (12:42):
Good luck. Where's that end season tournament that next week? Yeah?
It's the playoff? I guess the final eight knockouts?
Speaker 3 (12:49):
Stad Yeah, so it starts next Tuesday and Thursday or
is it two weeks out?
Speaker 1 (12:53):
But it does.
Speaker 3 (12:54):
It is coming up soon. So the Lakers are not
a part of it. They got bounced early, so no
surprise there.
Speaker 1 (13:00):
The Knicks, the Bucks, who else are in that believe or.
Speaker 2 (13:05):
The magic should be another fun one again.
Speaker 3 (13:10):
This is an opportunity for teams that don't have all
the glids and glamour to win a little hard, to
win a little win something that means something.
Speaker 2 (13:18):
And also everybody gets some cash.
Speaker 3 (13:20):
So if you win, five hundred thousand dollars to every
single player on the roster. So if you're fourteenth guy
on the roster and you're making I don't know, two
hundred thousand dollars, we'll just add another five hundred. It's
a really great opportunity for those guys to be a
part of something really cool.
Speaker 1 (13:37):
Coming up next, we're going to talk about the fact
that the offense is struggling for the Seahawks obviously, so
they need the other two fastest working to beat good teams.
They need the defense to continue shining as it's been.
But what are they gonna do on special teams? Not
just kick punting, but holding kickoff return, punt return. There
were two new guys, Jackson Smith and Ji was he
(13:58):
one of them. We're gonna we're gonna bring it up
on the telemot text it's game time, it's time and
who would do you want to see back returning kickoffs
and punts? Because we're going to talk about that next segment.
They aren't settled on that yet. It's like improv and
amateur night at the Apollo. Were you shockouts?
Speaker 2 (14:19):
Were you shocked that they cuts? I was okay, Yeah.
Speaker 1 (14:24):
I was surprised. I don't know if shocks the right word,
but I was surprised.
Speaker 2 (14:27):
Well, what's the difference between shocked and surprise?
Speaker 1 (14:29):
Shocked is mild surprise versus oh, I'm sorry, stunned on
my back the guy dropped to two kickoff returns. I
wasn't shocked, but you could make in case of d
Williams could also be released yea drafted rookie. His only
role on the team is to return kicks.
Speaker 2 (14:44):
He's been struggling all season.
Speaker 1 (14:45):
Hass, that's what we're gonna talk about next four, nine,
four or five one on the telemoort de text line,
who do you want back there seeing returning kicks? I
got an idea. I don't know a lot of you
might like it, but it's a good idea.
Speaker 2 (14:55):
I think I know where you're going with it, but
I won't. I won't dare say it. I'll let you.
Speaker 1 (15:00):
So what are they gonna do on special teams? We're
gonna talk about that next eleven o'clock. We're gonna talk
to John Manley. He's gonna preview the Washington State High
School football Championships at Husky Stadium that begin tomorrow. Chris
and I are going to be broadcasting live tomorrow morning
from Husky Stadium and bringing you the three A Championship
tomorrow night seven pm here on ninety three point three
KJRFM between Oday and Bellevue at Husky Stadium to the
(15:23):
three A title. Chris and I will be on the
call for.
Speaker 2 (15:25):
That on you Irish, Come on now.
Speaker 1 (15:28):
Seahawks Special Teams up next on ninety three point three KJRFM.
Welcome back to the show. Greg bell Is, I'm here
at the Virginia Mason Athletics Center, Seahawks headquarters. Chris Christopher
kids back at the LA Base Studios for Seattle. Here
(15:48):
on ninety three point three kJ r FM. Chris and
I are gonna be broadcasting tomorrow from Husky Stadium where
the state high school football Championships. We can late Tomorrow
morning and run through Saturday night. Chris and I are
going to bring you the play by play live broadcast
of the Class three A State Final Tomorrow night, seven
pm at Husky Stadium, Number two oh Day and number
(16:09):
one Bellevue matchup of Titans, two, twelve and Ozero teams
in Class three A final. The four A Final is
going to be Camus and Sumner on Saturday night, seven
pm at Husky Stadium. That's going to also be live
on ninety three point three KJRFM with Mike Benton, Our
Crack and pre postgame Host's going to be broadcasting that
game Saturday night, Camus Sumner for the four A title
(16:30):
at Husky Stadium. All that this weekend on ninety three
point three kjr FM. The Seahawks of course at Sunday.
I'll be flying to Phoenix Saturday for the Sunday game
in the Desert against the Cardinals for first place in
the NFC West. The Seahawks of all kinds of issues
and special teams. We saw it in a bad way
at the Jets kickoff return for a touchdown by a
(16:53):
practice squad player for New York block Pat three fumbled
kickoff returns. The Seahawks made a decisive move in that
regard by cutting Leviskushanald this past Monday, three days ago.
Dee Williams, the rookie, was the other who was back
with Chanal all season in kickoffs. He fumbled one and
(17:16):
lost one in the first half as well, and that's
why the series were down twenty one to seven midway
through the second quarter. Once they stopped fumbling kickoffs and
the Jets didn't have anything else to do and score.
The Jets didn't score over the last two and a
half quarters after that. So they've cut Schanal Leviskus Chanald
and it is pretty much open tryouts this week for
(17:37):
competition at kickoff returner. Mike McDonald said yesterday that Dee
Williams will be still part of that competition. He will
also still be a candidate to return punts, although as
Chris mentioned before the break, he's fumbled those two. Yesterday
before practice, Kenny McIntosh was fielding puns, practicing fielding punts,
and so was Zach Sharbonay, the number two running back
(18:00):
catching punts. Wait wait wait wait, yeah, I have to
jump in yeah, charbon A, Yeah he was.
Speaker 2 (18:06):
There's no threat of a return.
Speaker 3 (18:08):
The part of I know that you want to secure
the catch and take the field position that is usually
given to you.
Speaker 2 (18:15):
But that's that's really their best option.
Speaker 3 (18:17):
Putting a guy that has no cutting left or right,
he's just catch, run forward. That's what they want that
punt return. Now, I understand catching is a big part
of it. And you see why they'd let go Laviska.
You couldn't just corral it. I just Zack does not scream, Hey,
that's the punt returner.
Speaker 1 (18:36):
Yeah, that wasn't the first one in my mind.
Speaker 2 (18:38):
That's insane. Yeah, you could put You could put Tyrol
Lockett back there if all I care.
Speaker 1 (18:42):
Well. They have done that in not so recent past,
but in a few years ago they would do it
just to secure possession. Late in games especially, I guess
if he's going to secure the ball, I guess Zach
is fine.
Speaker 2 (18:52):
Then if he's just going to catch it, oh my goodness,
that's well.
Speaker 1 (18:55):
There are times that you do want returns and times
that you just want them to catch the ball deep
in your own end. For instance, you put Zach Charboney.
Speaker 3 (19:01):
There's not one coordinator thinking, all right, guys, if you
don't bring him down, it could be six that that's
just not happening.
Speaker 2 (19:07):
I'm sorry, that's okay.
Speaker 3 (19:09):
But if you were looking for someone just to catch
the football, make the right decision.
Speaker 1 (19:13):
Okay, you win. There have been times that this under
Pete Carroll, that, especially when teams were punting off its
own goal line and the return was the ball the
punt was gonna be fielded around midfield, that they have
put Tyler Lockett back there just to catch the ball,
usually to fair catch it and give the Seahawks a
drive start at her in the.
Speaker 2 (19:30):
All right, there you go, that's what Zack's back there
for fair catch it, Bud.
Speaker 1 (19:33):
Perhaps that's right. Perhaps, Now how about kickoff return? So
there's two new candidates with Dee Williams possibly to how
about kickoff return?
Speaker 3 (19:42):
I'm guessing it's probably Zach Charboney and Kenny McIntosh, and
d is also in the mix.
Speaker 1 (19:47):
I'd be surprised if Sharboney does that role.
Speaker 3 (19:49):
Well, what's the difference, to be honest, you're just catching
it and running straight.
Speaker 1 (19:53):
That's McIntosh McIntosh. If you don't use him there, why
is he on the roster at this point? I mean
he's under a rookie contract that get and it's only
his second year. But still, I mean, you're not using
him an offense at all. The guy I think they
should put back there. If they're not going to use
him a short yard, he just Kenneth Walker. And I
know that's a risk to put your lead running back
as a kickoff returner, But if you're not going to
(20:15):
use him on the crush crucial crunchdowns, and you think
that Zach Charbonnay is your Shortyardi's back, which they obviously
have thought that to this point, then put give Walker
the chance with the ball in the open field. I
don't think they're going to do that, but that's what
I put back there anyway at four nine, four to
five one until I'm gonna do text line. One of
you agree with me on that somebody said either Kenneth
(20:36):
Walker or DK Metcalf. That was from the two oh six.
For kickoffs, I'd love to see Kana under DK. They're
fast and hit holes hard. New kickoffs make them less dangerous,
meaning the shorter distance of run up before the cover
team gets to you.
Speaker 3 (20:49):
Well, you remember what I was saying going into this
season with the new kickoff rules, I thought maybe teams
would use their best athletes when they need points in
certain scenarios, like the Niners would use nine ers do
use debo to do it?
Speaker 1 (21:00):
I'm not gonna lie.
Speaker 3 (21:01):
I've noticed that, or maybe Christian McCaffrey the Seahawks use
DK put out Charles Cross as a blocker, but that
people are just kicking out of the ends on it,
so you could have it at the thirty. So that
hasn't really worked out, but i'd probably I guess Kate
and I would be fine back there. I mean, he's
you're risking injury every time he takes the field, So
what difference does it make if it's on kick return
(21:22):
or not.
Speaker 1 (21:22):
I obviously those are extra reps you haven't given him.
Speaker 3 (21:25):
That is true, But at this point, as you mentioned,
you're not gonna give him the football. Well, actually, there's
been a lot of issues with the run game, but
maybe in the kick return and on special teams he
can have more of an impact. Which is crazy to say,
but at this point, what do the Seahawks have to lose?
Speaker 1 (21:44):
Well, the NFC West, and they do have. You're right,
they they've gotten nothing from their return game recently, and
now they're having a problem with the coverage game as well.
It'll be interesting. It's another example of Mike McDonald not
just standing Patt and say, well, will work this thing out. No,
he just cuts guys.
Speaker 2 (22:04):
Yeah, I'm not gonna lie. I was shocked, all right.
Speaker 1 (22:07):
In Laviscus, Chanalt and bakersent on on the trick.
Speaker 3 (22:10):
You can see if he was dropping him week in
and week out. He had one bad game.
Speaker 1 (22:14):
Yeah, you could say that, but they aren't getting production
that they went in that spot anyway. He wasn't helping
on offense because Cody White has passed him.
Speaker 3 (22:22):
Okay, that's fine, stay on special teams, but hey, let
me not make a case for Laviskas.
Speaker 2 (22:28):
I'm just saying that's all.
Speaker 1 (22:29):
Yeah, they and they didn't they didn't know that they're
gonna need a roster spot this week because they're either
going to activate in Chennon will soon and now that
Dixon's hurting, they may need to have a punter, although,
as I said, Mike McDonald says, he's quote optimistic Dixon
will be able to punt on Sunday.
Speaker 2 (22:43):
And you're going to kick Greg if they need you
in a pinch.
Speaker 1 (22:45):
No, no kicking of football. I'm not very good. I'm
just saying, man, I could throw it further than they
could kick it. Hey, Greg, want to come iron kick
a few balls? See what you got.
Speaker 2 (22:56):
What if Mike asked you, would you take it serious?
Speaker 1 (22:59):
No, because he wouldn't be serious.
Speaker 3 (23:01):
Greg gonaive one hundred thousand dollars. You could punt it
thirty yards? What do you say, Bud? You get three tries, So.
Speaker 1 (23:07):
Duo six is why not Jake Bobo?
Speaker 3 (23:09):
For no, we don't at this point. If you want
someone just catch it. My goodness, you could throw anyone
back there. If that's the case. I think Bobo is
suited for receiving and a a blocker. He does a
really good job of get well, not a really good job,
he does a good job of doing that. I don't
think you need to put him to return kicks. I
(23:30):
think he's fine where he's at. I just I would
want someone dynamic that is a threat of returning it,
and I guess Kenny McIntosh would check that box.
Speaker 2 (23:40):
I guess that's kind of it.
Speaker 1 (23:42):
Three successes bring back Bobby Joe edmundsst.
Speaker 2 (23:46):
Well, yeah, I don't know who that is. Let me
do some google.
Speaker 1 (23:48):
Before you were born. I think you played in the
late eighties for the Bobby Joe Edmunds.
Speaker 3 (23:53):
I guess this is a good problem to have because
it's it's bringing up discussion. I don't think it's a
I'm not I don't think special team issues will kill
them and make make them miss or make the playoffs.
Speaker 1 (24:04):
How about that.
Speaker 2 (24:06):
I don't think it's that big of an issue.
Speaker 1 (24:07):
YEA, Well, it probably not gonna win your game, but
it certainly could lose your game, And if the Jets
were any good at all, they would have won that game.
Well yeah, Rogers throws that touchdown past the twenty looked terrible,
but they could have lost that game because of special teams.
On Sunday in New York.
Speaker 3 (24:21):
I'll be honest, though, it wasn't as if the Seahawks
they missed two tackles on the first kick return, so
that in my head, I'm thinking, do your job and
just make the tackle number one.
Speaker 1 (24:32):
But number that's the point. They're not doing it.
Speaker 3 (24:35):
Just one week. Though it was just one week. They
had a really bad week against the Jets. I don't
think I'll be honest, how much Special Team film are
you watching, Greg.
Speaker 1 (24:43):
Well, I'm watching it live and I see the three
miss takes.
Speaker 3 (24:45):
No, I'm talking about afterwards you go back and look
at it, because I didn't go back and look at it.
I'm not going to lie to you, but during the
game I did notice that they missed on tackles. In
previous games, they haven't missed that. That's why no team
has been running it back on the seas for kick returns.
So that's why I'm kind of giving them the pass.
Speaker 5 (25:01):
Now.
Speaker 3 (25:01):
If it happens again against DJ Dallas and he takes
to the house, all right, there's a problem, right, But
I don't think that's going to take place. I guess
I'm foreshadowing here. But the biggest thing is I think
the Special Team is fine. I think just had one
bad week and I'm not willing to I wouldn't cut Laviska,
but clearly they did that, and now they're trying to
figure out who's gonna step up next, So maybe we'll
see I don't know who will see Sunday for punt return.
(25:24):
I think d will probably get a shot, but I
don't know.
Speaker 2 (25:26):
I'm gonna say.
Speaker 1 (25:27):
You you heard it here. If DJ Dallas House is won,
it's Christopher Kid's fault.
Speaker 3 (25:33):
So now great, I guess this is all right. We'll
just leave that at that. I don't have anything else
to have.
Speaker 1 (25:41):
Yeah, they're probably not gonna put Kenneth Walker or Jack
and Smith and Jig or DK metcalf back kicks. They
won't an open field injury, but yeah.
Speaker 2 (25:49):
They won't.
Speaker 3 (25:50):
It's it's fun to think about, Like, imagine k catching
a punt. He's just he's gonna run over a few
people and yeah, probably talk a little smack and then
he's out there for offense.
Speaker 1 (26:00):
Somewhat lost on the Michael Dixon punting injury situation is
he's also the holder. And he came out limping to
hold on the extra point and made a twenty six
to twenty one by Jason Myers in the fourth quarter,
and he didn't look real great. Doing it. Brady Russell,
the backup tight end, has been practicing holds. He started
it during the game on Sunday at the Meadowlands and
(26:21):
was trying ready to do it, and he said I
talked to him yesterday about He said he called Dixon
over that critique him when Dixon was having the backspasms,
and I asked Russell, he said, yeah, I'm continuing to
practice holding through this week and just in case they
might use him if they don't sign up new punter
who's I've experienced doing it. Marquette King is out there.
He's thirty six thirty seven years old and hasn't played
(26:42):
in the NFL for a few years, but he was
in the XFL last year and he was at one
time a brilliant punter for the Raiders. I'm not sure
they're going to go that route again. They think that
Dixon will be able to punt and hold for Jason
Myers on Sunday.
Speaker 2 (26:58):
Any more clarity on his back spasms.
Speaker 1 (27:00):
No, they said it wasn't systemic. They didn't think it
was an injury systemic. It's just something you get and
like getting out of bed wrong or something that suck punters. Yeah,
you need you. That's not a good run.
Speaker 2 (27:11):
That's the one injury.
Speaker 3 (27:12):
You're like, yeah, we kind of need you because if
it's four of down, we don't want to always want
to go for it.
Speaker 2 (27:17):
And they were talking about on the broadcast.
Speaker 3 (27:18):
I don't know who went that, gonna watch the live broadcast,
but they're like, maybe Gino's gonna like snap the ball
and pooch kick it. I'm like, ah, that that that
might go really bad. I don't know if Gino can kick,
do you mc donald?
Speaker 1 (27:27):
I haven't seen him done that. Even messing around practices.
McDonald said he just made up his mind they're going
for no matter what. And they got bailed out by
the Jets.
Speaker 2 (27:35):
He did fun times.
Speaker 1 (27:38):
Up next, why this task for the Seahawks Sunday in
Arizona is far trickier than it was playing the Cardinals
two weeks ago. Multiple reasons for that. That's next, And
at eleven o'clock, John Manley's going to talk about the
state high school football championships of all the classifications from
four A down to two B. One B is going
to be starting tomorrow morning in Husky Stadium. Christopher and
(28:00):
I will be there. All that's coming up next to
ninety three point three KJRFM. Hi, welcome back to the show.
Thanks for listening, Greg Bough. I mean Virginia Mason Athletics Center,
Set Yorks Headquarters, Christopher Kids back at the studios in
Elliott Bay. It's ninety three point three KJRFM. We're with
(28:23):
you every day ten am to noon. Ian for Nas
will joined me here at the Virginia Mason Athletics Center
at eleven forty five leading in his show from twelve
until three, and now I'll be talking to Gino Smith
at twelve o'clock before the Seahawks practice. Had one Seahawks
at Arizona Sunday one oh five pm on Channel seven locally.
You know by now the Cardinals six and six Seattle
(28:45):
seven and five a game up. Arizona had a nineteen
six lead late in the third quarter at ten and
two Minnesota last week, and then Kyler Murray through two interception.
He threw forty five passes last week, and the Cardinals
still ran for one hundred and forty plus yards and
they still lost three after Murray through two interceptions in
the fourth quarter. The last time these two teams met,
(29:06):
they the Cardinals gain just forty nine yards on the ground.
They had entered the game at one hundred and forty
nine yards per game, and they got forty nine. James
Connor was leading the league in yards after contact he
finished going into that game. He just finished with seven
carries and eight yard That's it. Seahawks won sixteen to six,
holding the Cardinals to two field goals to pick six
(29:28):
by Kobe Bryant off of Kyler Murray sealed to win.
So that's job one Sunday for Arizona. Get Connor going
expecting more design runs for Kyler Murray than he had
in the first game two weeks ago. He only ran improvisationally,
really he didn't. There weren't any many designed runs for him.
I think that the Cardinals will do that on Sunday,
(29:49):
more than they did the first time. And Chris, what
really makes this game difficult for Seattle is you got
to expect the Cardinals to improve offensively, and they are
the much more distant esperate team here. If Arizona loses
on Sunday, the Seahawks have a three game lead on
them for the division because the Cardinals will be two
games back in the playoff in the standings and will
(30:11):
be losing the head to head tiebreaker because the Seahawks
would have swept Arizona with a win on Sunday three
games back with four to play, the Cardinals are basically
done if they lose on Sunday. That makes them far
more desperate than Seattle could lose the game and still
be tied for first place with four to go. Of course,
we talked about the gone awaits, the Green Bay Minnesota
(30:33):
back to back and then the short week trip to
Chicago and then finishing the season at the Rams. I
still think that Rams game is going to be fit
the NFC West title and put on Sunday Night in
Week eighteen. But Chris, I would be shocked if Connor
has seven carries for under twenty yards again and the
Cardinals don't have Kyler Murray something more concerted in a
(30:55):
run effort. You mentioned something yesterday that we brought up
in the Seahawks round table this morning with Chuck and
Buck at eight o'clock with Hugh mellon about how and
Hugh mellen agreed with you, Chris, if let McBride get
his twelve catches again, the tight end, yeah, I think
fifteen targets twelve catches because nobody else did anything Marvin
Harrison had.
Speaker 2 (31:14):
That's my concern.
Speaker 1 (31:15):
He catches for forty seven yards.
Speaker 3 (31:17):
I think that's my concern because when they go back
and watch the film, I'm sure they already have done that.
But I'm hypothetically speaking. When they went back and watched
the film of the Jets and what they did, they
attacked number twenty nine. He is not a tall guy.
They used Devanta Adam. They tried to get number five.
Speaker 1 (31:32):
Oh, they definitely were attacking Josh Jovi.
Speaker 2 (31:34):
So yeah, I'd see that. Okay.
Speaker 3 (31:36):
If I am the Cardinals, Okay, let's put Marvin Harrison
on him and try to attack those mismatches, because one,
he has the height. I don't know about the speed,
but I'm sure that's fine too. But even then, you
saw what Aaron Rodgers was trying to do and when
they were successful, it resulted in touchdowns. The opportunities present itself,
and if mc bride just goes crazy and has all
(31:57):
these yards and they don't get into the end zone,
that's a win for the Seahawks. Now is that easy
to do? Absolutely not, Because you need that, You need
Reek to be on his game. You need Witherspot to
be on his game. You need Love to continue to
play at high level, your pass rush to do their job.
It's as Mike McDonald has said throughout the season, it
takes all eleven guys. It takes one guy to screw up.
And now the whole thing is messed up. As there's
(32:18):
that one third down against the Jets where Weak does
something completely different. He's supposed to be in the flat
and leaves it and guess what, they get a completion
and they get twenty four yards for a first down
or they're close to it. Those little things are huge,
and with McBride, I know that he is he is
great at going over getting through zone coverages. He's a
(32:38):
big target. But if they're just giving him the yards,
I would personally be okay with it. It's more about
the red zone and can they stop them from scoring touchdowns?
And they did a really good job the first matchup,
but now against in the second matchup, I think the
Cards are going to try to run the ball more
effective because if I'm not mistaken, they've been throwing the
ball like crazy.
Speaker 1 (32:54):
They've kind of forty five times last week.
Speaker 3 (32:56):
They switched identities kind of what the Sehuks were doing
to start the season. They're thrown the football a lot,
they weren't running it, and now they're trying to run
it more that I think they're going to try to
run the football more and create opportunities for Marvin Harrison Junior,
and then also use Tram McBride as well.
Speaker 1 (33:12):
It'll be interesting to see how much the Seahawks when
they go extra defensive back shoes Big Nickel with Rayshawn Jenkins,
which they used early quite a bit against the Jets.
They went away from it later with the extra cornerback
Witherspoon inside and Josh Job on the field with Rik Wollen,
and then when they went dime they had both Job
and Rayshaon Jenkins on the field. Again. Remember Kobe Bryant
(33:33):
has taken Rayshawon Jenkins' starting job that Brian took when
Jenkins was on IR. I don't know if they're going
to go as much big Nickel, and I think they'd
rather have the quicker guy.
Speaker 2 (33:42):
Would say they go dimed in or are you think
and they just go nickel?
Speaker 1 (33:45):
You think they're just gonna go nickel, And when they
go dime, then you might begin ray Sewan but big
nickel may not work with Kyler Murray. You want the
faster nickel and Witherspoon to track him if he gets
loose on the outside.
Speaker 2 (34:00):
We saw on that fourth and one.
Speaker 1 (34:01):
Yeah, exactly. So that's a schematic chess match that Mike
McDonald's going to have to come up with another guy
on the spot on Sunday. Chris defensively is Draymont Jones.
He has missed contained on multiple occasions every game, including
against forty one year old Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 3 (34:19):
He got beat outside and Kyler Murray will eat him
up if he does that.
Speaker 1 (34:24):
He's taken a lot of b gap routes inside routes
and lost contain on when it's obvious by looking from
the field view with a wide view in the binoculars,
it's obvious he's the contained guy. The way it's the
scheme is there's only other there's only a cornerback behind
him on that side of the field. Draymond Jones needs
to keep better contained than he has this season against
(34:46):
Kyler Murray again, who I think is going to challenge
them on the edge more than he did in the
first meeting. Chris and I were talking before during the
break that we think we've settled on who they should
have as the kickoff returns. Yes, I think Freddy Mcatot
should be back there, and Trayper has wanted to do it,
the reserve cornerback who's lost his place here on this
team with Josh Jobs.
Speaker 2 (35:05):
Can he do it in college two Greg at Oklahoma?
Speaker 1 (35:08):
Yes, he did, and he talked to me about that
at the FanFest game at Woomenfield this summer in August
about how much he wants to get back there and
return kicks this season. And they haven't used him in
that role yet. You can bet that he's tugging on
special teams. Coach Jay Harbazi are saying, hey, put me
back there. I've been trying to do this for years
with these guys. We'll see if Trey Brown becomes an
(35:31):
option for them. Chris and I agree that would be
an option Trey Brown with Freddie McIntosh Kenny McIntosh, because
McIntosh has just taking up a roster spot otherwise. Four nine.
That's the question we pose for today. Also sending you
on the text line Telemorte text Lineman's game Time, It's
till time, talking about high school football and how pure
and great. It is, and you're right it is, and
(35:53):
we're going to be there tomorrow at Husky Stadium Tomorrow morning.
Our show will be from the press box, the Bob
Rondo Press Box HI at top Husky State Man. Tomorrow
night at seven pm, Christopher Kid and I will be
