Speaker 1 (00:00):
Time writing colleague of mine. Heasy call him this now
for the Fort Worth Star Telegram. Covers a lot of
maps down there. We've had him on, most recently during
the NBA Finals last summer. The Mavericks made thanks to Luca,
Daunctnes apparently doesn't need to be in Dallas anymore, according
to Mavericks, trading him to the Lakers. Chris, Yeah, that.

Speaker 2 (00:18):
Was that was crazy. Anderson text me like, why did
they trade Luca? It's like what we talking about? And
then I type in Luca on Twitter and Sham's the
first person that pops up, and I'm trying to verify
if this is accurate. I'm like, Eh, the numbers look right.
This looks like it's Sham's. And then of course he
follows up with like, nah, this is really me. This
is breaking news. And I was like, dang, that is

(00:39):
a colossal That might be the biggest trade I have
ever witnessed, just from the star power. I mean, they
traded some dude that you know is twenty five years
old and is a top three player in the NBA.
That's like the Lakers trading Lebron or it's like the
Lakers trading not the Lakers. That's like the Cleveland Cavaliers
trading Lebron when he was twenty five. That would have been.

Speaker 1 (01:01):
Like, what, maybe not quite that big, but yeah, no,
it's just as big. I was alive for Wayne Gretzky
getting traded from the Edmonton Oilers the Los Angeles Kings.
I was not all though people think I'm old. I
was not alive for Babe Ruth getting traded from the
Red Sox to the Yankees. But it's on par and
thats what mac Engle my buddy what Worth Star Telegram wrote.
He wrote, it's on par for Babe Ruth to the Yankees,
Wayne Gretzky from Edmonton to the Los Angeles Kings. Luka

(01:25):
Dante's from the Dallas Mavericks to the Los Angeles Lakers
for Anthony Davis at eleven twenty five. We'll talk to
mac Engle my buddy from Dallas Fort Worth about that trade.
So we're gonna switch things up time wise. A little
bit Mack couldn't be available to eleven so at eleven right,
eleven oh five after headlines, will get to your text
four nine four to five one on the Telemorre de
text line. Wh's game time. It's tyly time. Your chance

(01:47):
to be a part of the show. First sure headlines
brought to you by Frost RUDCRSLI. I choose Chill the Kraken.
They ended last night eight points behind Calgary for the
final playoff spot in the NHL Western Conference, but they
had two games this week against the Flames. That means
they had a chance to get that down to four
points in just those two games with two wins eight

(02:08):
to four, if you get the math there. Then in
the first pair of last night, climate Plage Arena, I
was watching and was there with Bucky and Ashley and
officials right off the Jayden Schwartz scorer and an early
power player, would have given the crack in an early
one nothing lead. He said he was goaltender interference. He
wasn't the crease and he kind of bumped the goalie,
but well before the actual shot and score. It didn't

(02:31):
seem to materially affect the actual goal. But instead of
a one nothing that he was reviewed by Toronto, Calgary challenged.
It was reviewed successfully challenged, and no goal for Seattle.
So instead of a one nothing, Calgary soon after scored
the game's first goal, high shot Joey to the court,
appeared to track and then looked like it went right
through his glove in the top left corner of the net.

(02:51):
One nothing flames suddenly, and then on another cracking power
play the flames Sharon Sharon Giovich, Sharon Govich is how
you pronounce it. He had a partial breakaway and he
used to stick to bump role tender Joey to Kord's
glove and stick away from the puck. It was just
tumbling there, went right through the Cord's legs and into

(03:12):
the net. And the Kraken thought, well, that's goal tender
interference too. It wasn't ruled that way, and they challenged.
Toronto said it was not goal tender inference, that it
was incidental contact. So the goal stood, and because the
Kraken had challenged, it was a penalty. It was a
man And the reason why the puck was just bouncing

(03:33):
there is because Jamie Alexiak had slashed Sharon Govic, so
that was a penalty, and so there were two penalties
in the play. And suddenly this krack and gave up
a goal to be down to nothing and were down
five on three because of the failed challenge. So you
know what happened. Then the Flame score on the five
on three and it's three nothing before the first period's

(03:53):
even over, and so went the game. Disastrous period. At
one point, the Cord made a with his glove and
angrily flung the puck up the ice. I've never seen that.
That's pretty rare. It's customary to just open your glovel
with the linesman pick it out of there. The Cord
was ticked and he flung the puck up the ice
and made the line go chase it. Kracking got to

(04:15):
go on each the next two periods. Brandon Tanna scored
midway through the thirty to make it three too and
make it an interesting end, but the Cracking couldn't tie it.
They lost three to This was Dan Bowsman, the coach,
on the just ridiculous against Seattle first period last night.

Speaker 3 (04:29):
Yeah, I think from going up one nothing to you know,
down three nothing and goalie interference calls, you know, the
power play, the five on three that sued for three minutes. Yeah,
I think a lot of events in that period were
not how we wanted him to go, from the calls
to the goals, and yeah, we had to reset, still

(04:53):
had to kill some off in a reset and get
back folks on playing forty minutes.

Speaker 1 (05:00):
Last night cracking and now ten points back of the Flames.
Pretty unrealisticating catch Calgary. Now they played tomorrow night at home.
Of course, Kygary. I keep mentioning Calgary because they have
the last playoff spot. As I said in the Western Conference,
cracking out tomorrow night at home against Detroit. Right here
when you're home with the cracking ninety three point three KJRFN.
The Seahawks new offensive coordinator Kyle Kubiak has made his

(05:22):
first three known decisions on who his assistant coaches are
going to be for this season. It's not going to
be Scott Huff as the line coach. We'd speculate that
probably wasn't going to happen, and it's not John Benton.
We've mentioned Beton on Friday. Remember Chris we talked about.
He was the Saints offensive line coach when Kubiak was
the Saints offensive coordinator this past season. He's a thirty
three year old coaching veteran. John Benton is a new

(05:42):
offensive line coach for the Seahawks. He's sixty one years old.
He has also been the line coach for the forty
nine ers for the Jets, been a run game coordinator
for the Jets as well. He is coming with Kubiak
from the Saints to the Seahawks. So John Ben's a
new Seahawks line coach. Andrew Janaka Janako is going to

(06:03):
be this new Seahawks quarterbacks coach. He was quarterbacks coach
for the Saints last year too, So this continuity that
we figured Kubiak would bring his own guys and he is.
Janoko has also been quarterbacks coach for the Bears and
the Falcons. He's thirty six years old. He being coaching
in the NFL in twenty fifteen. One holdover for sure
on the offensive staff is going to be Frisman Jackson,

(06:24):
the wide receivers coach, is going to be the wide
receiver coach for Kyle Kubiak. In twenty twenty five Seahawks
we mentioned the biggest story of the sports weekend, the
Mavericks trading franchise cornerstone Luke Dncicz to the Lakers for
Anthony Davis and others, including top draft picks Donches all
NBA team for five straight years. As Chris mentioned, just
still twenty five years old. Just led Dallas to the finals. Macanngle,

(06:47):
longtime writer and columns for Fort Worth Star Telegram, friend
of mine, wrote for the Fort Worth Star Telegram quote,
I've never seen the sports community as hurt and angry
as it is right now in Dallas. And this includes
many je Jones Dallas Cowboys flops. And if they're talking
about something that's making it more mad than the Cowboys
in Texas, it's big. And that's what this trade is

(07:07):
of Luca dncts and it's being tailed Dallas. People thinking
they're just breaking up a finals team, getting rid of
their best guy. It's just till Age twenty five years old.
Then the Mavericks, because they go out and give up
ninety one points in the first half of the Cavs
yesterday after that trade forty three. It's not fair.

Speaker 2 (07:25):
They don't have their entire team yet, so Adi didn't
even get to play. But they're gonna be a lot
better for sure defensively, and eighty's gonna bring something they
haven't had for a while, a power forward that can
defend score that I think they have a chance to
really do something special, and they already have a few
pieces they got great shootering and Clay who is still
playing at the top of his game, Kyrie staying healthy

(07:47):
if he can do that, and then they also have
a five, which is what ad requests with the Lakers,
just give me a five.

Speaker 1 (07:52):
Well, yeah, that's it. A week ago he said, well,
we're just gonna move away, and then the Lakers said
up trading him instead. Clearly they felt, hey, well I'm
not going to doneon Lakers.

Speaker 2 (08:00):
I mean, if they said we'll give you Luca, you
just give us a D and Max Christie and the
first rounder I will sign. I will do that every day.
So I'm Lakers did the right move easily. They got
the future taking care of some of the Brahma tires.
You have a generational talent. All you have to do
is build around him. They're set. They're like, cool, let's
just build around Luca now. So the MAVs on the

(08:21):
o their hand. If this don't go right, someone could
be losing their job. Yeah, that was the move that
he decided to make. But I see why they made
that move, like they are right there. Defensively, ad Man
three blocks a game, twelve rebounds, He's gonna give you
twenty five twenty eight I see why the mav did.
It's it's tough, but that's the business of the game.

Speaker 1 (08:43):
The GM was Andrew Barry said yesterday it was team
culture was at play there. There's some reports out of
Dallas that Dancik was out of shape and not wanting
to get in shape. They were asking to get on
the treadmill and then on the bike between games and
he wasn't doing it. Yeah, you see last night. Also,
go ahead, I've watched.

Speaker 2 (09:00):
Luke live like you could see like he's a little
bigger than a lot of players, and his efforts sometimes
is not always there. Still averaging twenty eight points a game. Oh,
none of that. It doesn't take away from it. But
there's a reason why the Maths were willing to move on.
There was just something that it just didn't sit right
with them, and that's, unfortunately the way it is.

Speaker 1 (09:21):
Also last night, the Kings traded DeAndre Fox of the
Spurs Seattle Dad in twenty thirteen, the Aaron Fox, DeAndre
Daron whatever, NBA twenty thirteen Washington State Player of the Year,
Zach Levine Levine whatever, Levin Levine, It won't matter in
a week, trust me on that BAFE high school to

(09:41):
the Kings a threeteen trade. It also involved the Bulls.
Ryan grad member him. No surprise at all that Cavin
de Bor has hired him back to Alabama. Is now
the fired offensive coordinator for the Seahawks at the OC
at Alabama. That was I bet that call happened as
soon as Greg got fired from the Seahawks. I wonder
who called whom Grub called the board the war called grub.

(10:04):
Pete Carroll hired Chip Kelly away from Ohio State. I
was surprised. I thought it was going to take more
than more than money than any NFL team would want
to give an offensive coordinator to get Kelly away from
the cushy, spotty head at Ohio State. They just won
the national championship. Didn't have to recruit, don't have to
deal with nil transfer portal anymore. But Chip Kelly is
a new offensive coordinator for Pete Carroll's Las Vegas Raiders.

(10:24):
Seahawks have a press conference with Clint Kobe act their
new offensive coordinator tomorrow at eleven am. You'll hear that
live here on ninety three point three KJRFM, and I'll
be doing the show tomorrow from renting the team headquarters.
Washington State basketball team lost again. Chris Arry had to
mention seventy five to fifty one at San Francisco. They're
five and six in the West Coast Conference. Fourth straight loss.
They play it Thursday at Oregon State. Washington's men's team,

(10:47):
the Huskies. They ended their Big Ten losing streak by
winning Saturday at Minnesota eighty one seventy eight. U deb's
now two and eight in the Big Ten. They host
Nebraska heckat on Wednesday night right here in your home
with the Huskies KJR. And there are ten days until
pitchers and catchers report the Marine spring training in Peoria.
Imagine that Saturday was a Senior Bowl and Mobile Alabama,

(11:08):
usually the college All star game the NFL scouts. It's
kind of an anti climactic game after a week of
the practices that show a lot more day to day.
But the game ended with TCU wide receiver Jack Besh
catching the winning touchdown pass on the final play. He
said he had wings on the play. His big brother

(11:28):
Tiger gave him those wings. Jack Best's big brother, Tiger,
the manny Idolizes was killed four weeks ago, and that
terrorist ran a truck into the crowd of Bourbon Street
in New Orleans early New Year's Day. This is Jack
Besh the NFL Network on the field and mobile at
the Senior Bowl after his winning touchdown on the final play.
Take me through that final play to win it, man,

(11:50):
It's simple.

Speaker 4 (11:50):
My brother has some wings on me. He gave him
it to me and he let that all take place.
You know, all the Lord is Savior, Jesus Christ, Tiger,
nothing else but them.

Speaker 1 (12:02):
The other reason I.

Speaker 4 (12:03):
Did what I did today, I attributed all of them. No,
I'm just the physical person here doing it, but I
attributed all of them.

Speaker 1 (12:11):
It was there was another clip there that had him
talking about him being even being at the Senior Bowl.
This is Jack Besch about his brother Tiger, who was
killed in New Orleans on New Year's Day when the
truck wrist ran through Bourbon Street.

Speaker 4 (12:28):
Just to be able to come and take place in
this game, it's a goal you set for yourself, you know.
But if I had the option that if I came here,
had the worst week ever, ruined my draft stock, But
that means I could give my brother a hug right now,
you know, I would take that, you know.

Speaker 1 (12:45):
But but on the flip.

Speaker 4 (12:46):
Side of that, I don't think I could have had
the week that I had if if all that would
have happened. So, like I said, you know, his wings
were on my side, and him and Jesus Christ the reasons.

Speaker 1 (12:57):
I was able to do all of this.

Speaker 5 (12:58):
If he's watching this interview, that's Jack Besh of TCU
wide receiver in the week he had at the Senior Bowl,
four weeks after his older brother, Tiger, whom he looked
up to as a mentor, was killed by the terrorists
driving a truck down Bourbon Street partiers.

Speaker 1 (13:18):
In New Orleans. It's often so much more than the sport,
the game, the football, and these guys, all of them,
we all have something, and Jack Besh has something, and
he's carrying with him all the way into the NFL.
And there will be NFL scouts and NFL teams that
will really take what Jack best did and mobile and

(13:42):
his motivation by his brother and probably ask him about her.
That the combine and weigh that decide whether to draft
him or not. But Jack Besh carries out every day.
The scouts of the teams just scout and see him
and evaluate him and move on to the next guy.
And if he's available in the slot of the thinking
they might draft, Okay, we'll draft him. He's not avail, well, okay,

(14:02):
we'll move on to the next guy. Jack Besh will have
to live with that with the rest of his life.
And it's not easy. I had to bury my sister.
That ain't easy and live with that every day. Jack
Besh is going to live with this every day, no
matter what his role is in the NFL. And that's
what he's talking about when he says, if I'd ruined
my draft stock because I didn't perform well here, so
what and made my brother proud? And that's real stuff.

(14:27):
And that's often with sports is we talk about sports
and the games and the final scores, and the contracts
and the trades and the signings and the coaching hirings
and firings and should they bench Gino and should they
trade Gino? But these are all people too, And I
wanted to bring up Jack Besh's story, not about the
Senior Bowl and him winning the game with a catch,

(14:47):
not even about his draft status, but to point out
that he's going to live with this for the rest
of his life, whether someone ask him about it or not,
whether an NFL team drafts him or not, whether an
NFL GM or scout is evaluating him him based on
his football talent or asking him at the combine about
his brother and his legacy. And he's gonna live with
that no matter what else goes on. And that's that's real.

(15:10):
That's what people are. There's there're people. They're athletes that
get paid tons and millions and millions of dollars, but
there's still people too, and everyone's got something, and that's
Jack Besh's something. Four tell them we do tech silence.
Game time, it's Tully time. Your reaction to the sports weekend,
whether it's the Luca trade or you saw Jack Besh
and rooting for him, rooting for the Seahawks to draft him.

(15:31):
They don't really need a wide receiver and he's someone
with the metal of Jack Besh apparently has though. Up
next Mike Benon, who I saw last night before we go,
we gotta give cash and because the printer does not
seem to worry, I'd give him the word for ten am.

Speaker 2 (15:47):
We got you guys enter this nation, ye Keyward on
our website, that's Bank, B, A and K. That's Bank
into it now on nine through three KJR dot com
for your chance at one thousand dollars. Again, that's bank,
so go ahead and that in for your chance of
one thousand dollars. I have another word for you at eleven.
That's our thousand dollars power play.

Speaker 1 (16:05):
We give it away every day, every weekday from six
am to seven pm in our bank. Right now for
this hours keyword bank BA NK to ninety three to
three K jardarga. Thank you for that. Chris up. Next,
Mike Benton I saw last night at Climate Pledger arena.
He joins us for his weekly visit, talking about a
particularly crushing loss for the Kraken, their reaction that whole
first period, the replay reviews what is goaltender interference? I

(16:27):
mean it was almost like what is a catch in
the NFL last night in the first period of that
game at Climate Pledge. And we'll talk about where the
crack can go from here. That's next. At eleven twenty five,
we're gonna talk to mac Anglo the fourth worst Star
Telegraph stout Graham, excuse me about Luka Donchez trade to
the Lakers for Anthony Davis. That's at eleven twenty five.
We'll read back your text and a reverse order about

(16:47):
eleven oh five today, all that coming up the Greg
Bell's Show with Christopher Kidd on ninety three point three
kjr FM. You're listening to your one and only home
for the Super Bowl. Super Bowl Liting.

Speaker 6 (16:58):
Make us You're number one set in your car and
on the new iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 1 (17:03):
Now back to Greg Bell and Christopher.

Speaker 6 (17:05):
K on Sports Radio ninety three point twice Super Bowl.

Speaker 1 (17:08):
K j r f M. Welcome back actually listening Greg
Bell christopherk with you on ninety three point three k
j R f M. Was at the Kracking game last

(17:28):
night with Bucky Jacobson Ashley ran the morning crew, and
it didn't go well. The first period in particular, was
a disaster on levels that the Kracking couldn't even control
goaltender interference. What is goaltender interference? Like? What is a
catch in the NFL? Mike Betton our Man was at
the game, as always great. Post game, he ducton said

(17:50):
hi to us, and during one of the periods he
joined some Beacon pumbing hotline as he does every Monday
at this time, to talk about where the Crack can
go from here.

Speaker 7 (17:57):
After last night, Hello, Mike, Hi, Greg, it was great
to stop on by last night, and I heard that
you signed plenty of autographs in that.

Speaker 1 (18:06):
Yeah that's me, are you? Yeah? That's me. You look
great as always last night, sir? What is goaltender interference
in the NHL? For me my amateur, non hockey professional opinion.
The first goal, this allowed goal. It didn't seem like
that interference actually materially affected the shot or the goal

(18:27):
or the put going in toward the net at all.
The contact had happened well before the actual sequence of
the score. And then the other way, when the cord
got his stick and his glove knocked away from him,
that appeared to be goaltender in it. Even if it
was because of slashing, that would have been Alexis penalty.
But what did you make of those two decisions? Obviously

(18:48):
the Kraken disagree to them.

Speaker 7 (18:51):
Well, I asked this back in return, and I say
it sungue in cheek. Great, how much.

Speaker 1 (18:57):
Sign do you have exactly?

Speaker 7 (19:02):
I mean, I mean, I thought you nailed it about
a few minutes ago. I had you on in the
car on the way here, and I mean I mean
trying to break down goaltender interference. These days, is like
trying to break down a catch in the NFL, and
it's tough because it's so subjective, and the goalposts seemed
to move here on the interpretation each and every time.

(19:25):
And this is why we have a situation room now
in the NHL. It's why we have video review, and
even then, it just seems like that we have, you know,
a ship and how this is interpreted, you know, each
and every game, each and every day. I mean, I
think to me when you break down the first goal
which the Kraken scored and that was overturned, versus the

(19:47):
one where Sharon Govich scores and taps the courts pads,
you know, I think to me, just trying to go
through this and watching it last night when I got
back home and thinking about it over and over in
my head, I think the first one bothered me a lot,
or because Jaden Schwartz flot out set after the game
that the officials thought it was a good goal, but
Toronto called the intervening, which they do have the tree

(20:10):
decision here to go ahead too if they see something
that's a bit off. But I think then it just
see the amount of time it took to break this
thing down, and it was almost as if we're going
out of our way maybe to see if there was
no center interference because of I mean, by by by
a base line standard. If it's inconclusive, it should be

(20:30):
a goal. And it was a goal in the first place,
but it just dragged on for so long last I
just thought, you know it, you know, what's what's the
purpose of this here? If it's going to be inconclusive,
it should be a goal.

Speaker 1 (20:44):
I mean.

Speaker 7 (20:44):
And the only contact that we saw on the crease
was Jaden Schwartz drawing damn blodar stick right into his skates,
where whereas before then there was absolutely zero contact. Now
on the Sharon Govitch goal, you know, he's trying to
go for a swipe puck. In the loose puck he
taps the patch as well.

Speaker 1 (21:01):
On the way.

Speaker 7 (21:02):
I mean, we can go for hours upon hours breaking
down if that was incidental or if that was intended
contact and not just to try to battle loose puck
here out of the way, But I mean, Greg, I
think more and more. Unfortunately doesn't mask the fact that
the crack had got out to the slow start. They
had a great look in the first two minutes the

(21:23):
Yorks ran missed a wide open net off a loose
puck at the left circle, and that was the first
period they had to have and the crack had talked
about getting off to a fast start once again, whereas
they didn't get their game rillying gear until about midweight,
you know, past the second period, and then they finally
got to come back going. So unfortunately it was too

(21:45):
a little too late.

Speaker 1 (21:46):
What's the moon around the team now? Ten points down?
I mean, we've we've said a few times they've got
to get going. They've got to get going. Obviously they
have to get going, but they're ten points out of
the last playoff spot. They do get Calgary again in
a return match this weekend. But what each Gain's the
mood of the team. Is it desperate or they are
they really losing the meaningful part of the season right now?

Speaker 7 (22:11):
Well, we're gonna find out in about roughly an hour
because I'm on the way to practice and they're going
to be hitting the ice of the battle on the
clott We'll find out after that as far as what
the mood's like here in the room here for this morning.
But I thought, listening back to some of the reaction
last night, there was I think maybe a feeling of
frustration and that they really did give a pretty earnest,

(22:34):
hard working effort in that second period to come back.
So I think what you have to admire of that
no one's packing this thing in yet, and the hill
is very, very receieve and it really is because they
dug themselves a hole just based on you know, the
minimal I think, by the skin of their teeth margins,
which puts themselves into the position. But it happens over

(22:56):
and over and over. So I don't think you're going
to be hearing a team that's going to be saying,
you know what, we're done, We're so it's no no
pro sports team does that. For a matter of fact,
they have twenty seven games left and they're ten points
out of the playoff spot here and they are now
less nobod getting away to the four Nations break, which
we're already seeing teams begin to unload right now with

(23:17):
their rosters. So it's I think the questions are going
to start. I think I think they're going to become
a bit louder now as far as where this roster
is going to be headed. With the aspiring contracts they have,
the players they have coming up to the miners, which
you know are are starting to get more and more
of a deserving look. I think maybe at the NHL

(23:37):
level and then address where you have to go to
try to maybe supplement areas of your roster origin will
help you out from an offense the standpoint this next season,
uh and beyond as well. So you know we're we're
in a time and of space for the Crack and
really didn't think that they should be in about four
months ago here, and I think that loss really hurts

(23:58):
them last night as far as their chances. But you know,
I think they're gonna be playing all the way to
the very end until they're told you have you know,
a big e right beside your name, because they're they're
playing this thing the art of the very end, until
they can find their way in or out of it.

Speaker 2 (24:14):
Mike, do you think the Kraken will be doing a
lot of selling heading towards the NHL trade deadline, which
is about a month away.

Speaker 7 (24:23):
I think the level of selling, Chris, depends upon how
you interpret I think where they have to go. I mean,
if you're talking about a full blowing fire sale, I
don't think that's gonna happen. I mean, they've got too
many players under long term deals, which I think number one,
don't make sense to move, and I think number two,

(24:44):
they're they're starting to show I think, signs of being
a big piece of this team's future here and I'll
begin with Brandon mont Tour. I mean, listen, we can
all talk about the the length of Chandler Stevens's contract.
I mean, it's been just handalyzed that nogia up for
the last four months. But the now fact is he's
like better over the last two and a half weeks

(25:04):
and I had a great chance to sit down with
them one on one. There's a difference of where he
feels now versus back in October as far as this
level of comfort, and that's something that people don't realize
is the off I spatters with which can certainly affect
on ice matters. And there's a big move for him
and his family, and he's feeling more settled in and
we're seeing more results out of him as well. So

(25:25):
but I even think back to the mount even years
deal or East signed a seven year deal for about
roughly seven million, and we're thinking of the down year
he had. How much value can you get out of that? Well,
the matter of fact is now the CAP's going up
next season, and in about three years from now. Right
now it's it's pushing ninety million. In about a few
years from now, he'll be I'll push one hundred and

(25:47):
twenty million dollars. So all of a sudden, that seven
year deal looks pretty good. Never mind the year that
he's having now being placed with Jayden, Schwartz and Coppocco,
and that last name is a big piece of this.
But as far as those players on the I mean,
I think you can look at the I mean the
names who are you know, getting into their thirties now,
they're on the last year of their deals. They're thought

(26:10):
after commodities here for teams who are in the playoff
mix and they're looking to fortify their bottom six. Those
are the more realistic names we have heard recently. And
you know, the talk isn't getting much sofcer here. I
think it's part of this. So I heard one great
name of this or a great phrase, and it looked
like a soft seller. I think that's what you're looking toward.
More of this situation does not improve, but I did

(26:33):
to say that you got to go ahead and just
burn the whole thing down like the twenty nineteen Maren Ears.
I mean, I think that's a bit extreme. There's already
some good pieces here in place, but you had to
rework with what you had here on the edges.

Speaker 1 (26:43):
Brandon Monteur Mike he in person, he seemed like the
best player on the ice last night. I mean he's
diving to block shots, he's attacking the net. He's a factor,
and he gets a lot of ice time. What you
learn when you talk to him, and how he likes
the system like Bosma's system, and his thoughts on being
in Seattle and where the team directions headed, Oh.

Speaker 7 (27:06):
He loves it. I think that that was a pick
up that made a tons sense from this last off season.
And it's almost too bad because for the amount of
time that he gets and for the amount of time
of the pot comes off his sick and he went
through a massive twenty games scoring drought. I mean, players
of his caliber are going to go for a lot
of ups and downs. For the matter of fact, this

(27:27):
is that he drives play and you know, for a
right handed defenseman who's got that kind of shot he has.
You know, they don't grow on trees often here in
the NHL. So I mean, the last time I had
a chance to talk with him, he loves the increased
ice time, He could handle it. He bribed in it.
He did so with the Florida Panthers and they won
the Cup last year as a result of that.

Speaker 1 (27:47):
So I mean I.

Speaker 7 (27:49):
Would go back and think of again, you know, if
you can look to maybe you know, add a bit
more here for this summer, what can you do with
a guy like him, and the weapons has found a
heightened present with greater offensive weapons as well. I mean,
it's fun to think about, but you know, I think
for now, I mean he's only I mean, Greg, I

(28:10):
think you said it. He's doing what he can. And
I think about not just the eight shots he had
on net last night, but even going back to when
this game was still very much in doubt, Calgary clear
the puck got a six on five and it appeared
that they had a wide open lag for mponet and
Brandon Montour gets right back into fifth year and I thought,
if they get this thing to overtime, he's player of

(28:32):
the game right there. End up story because he stayed
that play and got to go going right back up
ice for one last six chance. So you know, I
certainly think that he's in the mix for one of
your best players on this team this season, and he's
showing why, to say, why they decided to pay him
the fare that they had to pay him to get
him out of Florida.

Speaker 1 (28:51):
He's got the second highest average ice time per game
of his career, twenty three minutes thirty five seconds per night.
He's got ten goals on the season, two more than
he last year with the Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers. Mike,
great to see you again last night. We'll see if
the Crack can get it going against the Red Wings
in the Toronto Mate believes Tuesday and Thursday at Climate
Pledge to end the homestand thanks Mike. Enjoy your day.

Speaker 7 (29:13):
I appreciate it great, Thanks buddy.

Speaker 1 (29:14):
Mike Ben a pre postgame intermission host The Captain here
on ninety three point three KGRFM, he says he don't
think it's gonna be a crazy wholesale fire sale of
the Crack and roster before the trade deadline, which if
I remember, is March seventh. In the NHL, But there's
some realistic expectations now for the going forward with the
rest of the season ten game ten points, meaning five

(29:36):
whole wins behind for the last playoff spot. With twenty
seven games remaining, Calgary has games in hand over them
and had beaten them. They get to play them again
in Alberta this coming weekend. But that'll great, does it,
Chris for the cracking best left to last night.

Speaker 2 (29:53):
Yeah, it sucks to say that, but that's the reality
of this team right now. All you can do is
hope and they're gonna the players are not gonna give up.
We know that, but at this point there's there's not
enough a lot of promise with this roster and what
they're doing on the on the ice.

Speaker 1 (30:10):
Coming up next. Breaking news this morning in the NFL,
the NFL Defensive Player of the Year as requested a trade,
and the Seahawks made three decisions on the new coaching
staff on the offensive side for new OC Clint Kubiak.
We'll talk about that next eleven oh five. We'll read
back to your text and tell them we'll do text
line four nine four five one. I ask you if
you were, if you're a basketball fan, would you have

(30:31):
made the Luca Dante trade. If you're Mavericks fan, would
you be ticked off? I'll also ask you what do
you want to see next from the Seahawks. What's the
next move you want to see make? Put that on
the text line four nine four five one. I say
it's re Signer, it's Jones. Some of you might say
trade DK Metcalf, trade Gino Smith. I've seen that on
the text line. What move do you want the Seahawks
to make next? Four nine, four to five one. We'll

(30:53):
be back to your text at eleven oh five because at
eleven twenty five we're gonna go to Dallas talk to
my friend mac Engel about this Dante trade while the
Maps did it and Anthony Davis going from the Lakers
to doubt us. All that's coming up. On ninety three

three three kjr dot com or Chris. We talked about
the fact that there was probably gonna be a trickle
down effect to Pete Carroll being the Raiders coach on
the University of Washington's offensive staff in just like it

(32:08):
was when Bill Belichick took the North Carolina job and
Husky's defensive coordinator Steve Belichick followed his father to North Carolina. Well,
Yogi Roth Big Ten Network, longtime friend of the USC program,
back to when Pete Carroll was a USC coach, pretty
dialed into the Carroll family, back to the USC days.
He's reporting that, yes, indeed, Pete Carroll is hiring Brennan Carroll,

(32:33):
the current Huskies offensive coordinator, to be the Raiders offensive coordinator.
We knew that was coming. So now Jed Fish and
U dub staff has lost both their defensive coordinator and
offensive coordinator in the last month or a half or so,
and so Fish is gonna have to start over with
a play caller and offense and defense. Although he calls
in the games most of the plays for the Huskies offense,

(32:53):
but Brendan Carroll, the U dub offensive coordinator, is set
to join the Las Vegas Raiders and his father Pete
the new Raiders coaches offensive line coach, and Las Vegas
with the Raiders. That's according to Yogi Roth now with
Big ten Network. Also this morning, the Seahawks new offensive coordinator,
Clint Kubiak made his first three decisions on his coaching staff.
He's got a new line coach and it's not Scott Hoff.

(33:14):
I wonder if Scott Hop's going to go to Alabama
with Ryan greb to rejoin with Cavien de Bor because
John Benton, the sixty one year old, thirty three year
coaching veteran nineteen coach years coaching in the NFL. John
Benton is the new Seahawks offensive line coach, coming from
the Saints. Where Klint Kubiak was the offensive coordinator this
past season. And also Clint Kubiak is bringing his quarterback
coach from the Saints with him to New Orleans, Andrew Janako,

(33:39):
who's thirty six years old. He's also been a Bears
and Vikings quarterbacks coach. He's been coaching in the NFL
since twenty fifteen to four backup quarterback at the University
of Pittsburgh. He is the off the new quarterbacks coach.
Charles London was the quarterbacks coach last season for the Seahawks.
He left to be the QB's coach for the New
York Jets at the end of last season because he
saw the writing on the wall that he wasn't going

(34:00):
to be retained once they fired Ryan Grubbs. The first
three decisions now, including the big one for the offensive
line coach Don John Benton from the New Orleans Saints,
previously offensive line coach for the New York Jets and
the San Francisco forty nine Ers, among many others in
a thirty three year coaching career. John Benton, a new
offensive line coach reportedly for the Seahawks. Tom Pelliser NFL

(34:22):
Network was the first two announced that this morning, and
also this morning, Miles Garrett put out online a statement
that he is requesting a trade from the Cleveland Browns.
Reigning defensive Player of the Year, four time All Pro
defensive end says he wants out of Cleveland and basically
it's because of winning. Chris His statement is, quote, my

(34:46):
desire to win and compete on the biggest stages won't
allow me to be complacent. The goal was never to
go from Cleveland to Canton. Of course, that's a reference
parenthetically to the Pro Football Hall of Fame, Miles. Miles Garrett,
excuse me said quote, it has always been to compete
for and win a Super Bowl. With that in mind,
I've requested a trade from the Cleveland Browns. Last week,
Brown's GM Andrew Berry said the team wasn't going to

(35:08):
entertain any trade offers for Garrett. That he's staying. He's
going to remain the Browns captain. Garrett just turned twenty
nine years old. The Browns trade him, the new team's
going to take on a nine point teen point eight
million dollar cap at nineteen point eight this year, excuse
me in salary, and twenty five million dollars in twenty
twenty six on his existing contract. If Cleveland trades him,

(35:29):
they're going to have a dead cap charge of thirty
six point two million dollars the acceleration in the last
two years of his deal. That's not good. I have
paid thirty six million dollars against your cap. Haven't play
somewhere else. Garrett's doing this not just to get on
a new team, but also get a new contract. Obviously,
spowtrack estimates, that's the online NFL and pro sports contract tracker.

(35:53):
Spowtrack estimates that he's Garrett is worth four years and
one hundred and thirty seven million dollars in a new contract.
So Chris, whoever Trey wants to trade for him, is
not only going to inherit this new country, He's probably
already going to be negotiating on a his current contract.
I should say he's probably gona be negotiating on a
new contract. And I can hear listeners now here in
the Seattle are going, what about the Seahawks, And they're
not in the running. They don't have the cap space.

(36:16):
They're over twenty seven million over unless this man wants
to take a massive pay cut more deferring a lot
of money. He ain't coming to Seattle. Well, I think so.
They've got Leonard Williams sixty million dollar defensive end. They
have decisions to which we know to make on Gino
Smith's forty four and a half men, Their cap hit
on Tyler Lockett north of thirty million. On DK Metcalf
going into last year of his deal around thirty million

(36:36):
dollars cap hit. So they are they're gonna. They have
ways to get under Draymond Jones we talked about likely
to be released. They have ways to get under the
cap and relatively easily. But I don't see them in
play for Miles Garrett financially. Don't worry.

Speaker 2 (36:52):
Some team in the NFC will have the bag and
throw it to him and he'll He'll probably join an
NFC team and see how be mad.

Speaker 1 (36:58):
But that's just to be hond this situation.

Speaker 2 (37:00):
Or the Browns stand ten toes down, get pieces they
need to build around someone like Miles Garrett defensively and
get a quarterback and he ends up staying. But as
Greg mentioned, this is also employed to get a new
deal done as well. So and a Brown's a stated
that they have no intentions of trading a player, which
I don't see how many times players ask for trade

(37:21):
and they're like, you know what, we'll meet those demands.
It's usually this is how they play cookie and in
a few weeks will see how this few months, will
see how this plays out.

Speaker 1 (37:28):
It'd be nice if Garrett stays, but he also wouldn't be.

Speaker 2 (37:31):
On a team that, you know, wins three or four games.
He's he's really talented, and he wants to be on
a team that has a chance to make a fight
in the playoffs and maybe win a Super Bowl.

Speaker 1 (37:40):
Here's something to send a shiver down Seahawks fans spines.
The Los Angeles Rams have thirty eight million dollars in
cap space. Currently, they've been trying to reportedly trade Cooper Cup,
who's their second most expensive player and his cap numbers
twenty nine zero point eight million dollars this year. I'm
just sam would take Cooper Cup. Would Cooper Cup for

(38:03):
Miles Garrett and some draft picks be a trade? I
don't see it with the Seahawks financially, but Chris, you
mentioned driving leveraging for a contract. The Browns, of course
are going to come out and say we're not trading
or not entertaining trade offers because that will drive up
the trade offer price. They're not gonna come out and say, ah,
well we'll take them for whatever. They're gonna say, nah,

(38:25):
we're not interested. And then Garrett comes out and makes
this statement. So that makes teams interested to give the
Browns an offer that would make them trade them. But
we'll see what happens in Cleveland with Miles Garrett the
team captain, and it possible trade. We had a huge
trade in the NBA this weekend, one of the biggest
in sports in recent years. My friend Mac Angle, the

(38:46):
four Worth Star Telegram columnists longtime friend of mine, wrote
that it was akin to Babe Ruth to the Yankees,
from the Red Sox to Wayne Gretzky getting traded by
the Oilers to the Kings. We're going to talk to
Mac Engle at eleven twenty five. At eleven oh five.
Before that, we'll read back your text on a tele
them order your text line. Some of you texting in
about the Seahawks, some of you texting about the Kraken
and your disappointment in them. We'll talk about that coming
