Yep, I was two thousand and six, just graduating eighth grade.
So yeah, it was eighth grade, getting ready for high school.
Speaker 2 (01:41):
Seahawks played in Detroit and Super Bowl forty nineteen years
ago today of Chris twenty one to ten, lost to
the Steelers. Cheated. Yeah, I was there in Detroit. I
know the officiating and Bill Levy and all that was crazy.
I know. Then Roethlisberger did not score, But you got
to say that was the worst offensive performance that Mike
Homeran's number one rank offense had all year.
Speaker 1 (02:00):
In the defense fault. They were terrible that day. They
were awful. And then when Mike home, gonna agree with that, Yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:07):
He has agreed with that. We talked about that last night.
The crack and rounded again at point in the standings,
but they lost again ultimately. At eleven o'clock, our quarterback
Humanlon is going to join us for the final time
this football season, as he has every Wednesday throughout the
fall and even in the summer. We're gonna talk about
the Super Bowl. We're gonna talk about what he thinks
that the Seahawks need to prioritize, what they need to
(02:27):
do first here this offseason. Chris and I know exactly
what that needs to be. We'll see what Humanlin says.
At eleven o'clock. Eleven thirty will be back your text

hot Detroit four nothing in the third period last night.
They climbing fridge Pledge arena. Shane Wright scored, then scored
his second goal of the game in the third period.
Is eleventh of the season. He's really surging here lately.
And then Chandler Stevenson tied it about midway through the
(03:27):
third period at four. They played to his scoreless but
entertaining back and forth overtime, and then you went to
the shootout and you're like, uh oh, the Red Wings
have Patrick Kane on their team. This can only go
a few ways and the cracking didn't even come close.
Paniers leading off the shootout turned away and the winner
was Patrick Kane with just a marvelous move on Joey
(03:48):
Decord at a scoop shot so the Red Wings win
their seventh consecutive game in the shootout five to four.
Technically the Kracking Dude get a point in the standings.
The Flames lost at home to Toronto, so the Crack

(04:31):
players and one for coach. I saw a report I
think it was from Adam Scheffner that said that Eli
Manning already knows whether he is in or as a
first time inductee. So that's first story considering, well, yeah,
but not everyone knows and the coach the selections. It's
a little different, and it is how long does it take?
Is ain't tomorrow the big day, right? But they do
(04:52):
meet right up until I mean they're hunkered down in
hotel rooms discussing candidates and choosing. Fifteen players are on
the ballot, and of course our coach Mike Combren is
also in the bout. It's a different selection. We've talked
about it many times on the show and on the station.
Different selection process now the coach is voted on about.
It used to be that you were just nominated and
then selected by a committee and there was a coaching
(05:15):
inductee every year that was separate of the Hall discussions
and voting super Bowl week. Not anymore. The coach, Mike
Hombrean is in with everyone else. The players, the fifteen
finalists of players being discussed down in New Orleans right now.
And we'll find out tomorrow. If Mike Homan gets what
we all here at the station, all in Seattle, all across

he should be in the Hall of Fame. We'll see

coming off there. When this past weekend at Minnesota. In
the NBA, Chris's league more trades. The Milwaukee Bucks are
reportedly trading three time All Star Chris Middleton to the
absolutely subterranean Washington Wizards.
Speaker 1 (07:17):
I mean they're terrible, are they like seven and fifty
or something. They have a chance to break the record
for the worst in NBA history. That's so they suck,
And I feel bad for Chris Middleton. Yeah, he's going
to Wizards. And Kyle Kuzma report.
Speaker 2 (07:29):
I know he's happy to be out of preparatory. Yeah,
it's like he just won the lottery.
Speaker 1 (07:32):
Man, and he's gonna help out. I think big time
with the Bucks. I think he can provide some scoring.
Not that Chris couldn't, but my good.
Speaker 2 (07:39):
But he's thirty three. Hey, well he had two ankle surgeries. Surgery.
Speaker 1 (07:43):
You get a young girl, Kyle Kuzma, who has been
pretty much the guy for the Wizards outside of Jordan Poole,
and now he gets teamed up with a winner and
Johnston to coompo. I think this is this is opportunity
to get another chance to win a championship.
Speaker 2 (07:57):
If you're Chris Middleton, you gotta be thinking about retire.
Speaker 1 (08:00):
Oh yeah, I tho, I tweeted. I was like, at
this point, you can just retire. Can come on, Wizards?
My god, they they sent you to the worst place
possible and they said we love you, but we we
like Kyle quism a little more.
Speaker 2 (08:13):
I think, like, seriously, I'm not exaggerating seven and forty
three or seven and fifty or so.
Speaker 1 (08:17):
I don't think we need to talk about it great.
I think we can just keep going with headlines because
their record is really bad.

President Trump will sign an executive order today designed to
prevent people who were assigned mail at birth from participating
in women's or girls sporting events. They are eight and
forty one. Eight and forty one sixteen. Maam, I'm surprised
it's that high. So the transgender sports and it's in
fluct you can expect lawsuits and challenges and everything else
(08:45):
to that executive order.
Speaker 1 (08:46):
Would you could you consider Trump a comedian just about
how he acts and everything he's doing like he Parks
years ago.
Speaker 2 (08:52):
Yesterday, you've heard of Rosa Parks christ He couldn't be
a no day graduate without knowing that. Most people know
she's famous. She refused to give up her seat on
the bus in Montgomery, Alabama, in the early nineteen sixties,
but she was more than that in nineteen fifty. This
is from Goodible. Of all the cesspull garbage that is
(09:13):
on Twitter x, one of the best things is Goodible.
It's the at sign good abl E And if you
go there, it's like cleansing yourself to just read what
they post. And yesterday they celebrated what would have been
Rosa Parks's one hundred and twelfth birthday. She died in
two thousand and five. Here's Rosa Parks's backstory. In nineteen
(09:37):
fifty five, segregation wasn't just about sitting in a separate air.
Black people actually had to give up their seat on
a bus if a white person wanted it, no matter
where the person was. If a white person came on
the bus and a black person was sitting where they
would you just thumb the person and they had to leave.
That was a law in Montgomery, Alabama in nineteen fifty five.
(10:04):
I mean that was It's unfathomable now, but or is
it so? Rosa Parks says, no, what, I'm not going
to give up my seat on this bus. I ain't moving.
She got arrested. Word of her arrest spread across town
in Montgomery, Alabama. It was a civil rights leader in
(10:26):
Montgomery named Edie Nixon, and his idea was that if
every black person in Montgomery boycotted the bus system, could
it put an end to segregation. He wanted to do
a test, and he wanted to hit him with the
bus system would feel most so. Thirty five thousand montgomeryan's
(10:49):
not all black, by the way, joined this boycott. It
was supposed to last for a day, and it turned
into a full movement. They said, we're not taking the
bus system. We had black CAPSI black owned taxis services
offer rides to Montgomery residents for the same price as
a bus fare ten cents to circumvent the bus. People
(11:11):
were walking, people were taking horse drawn carriages around town
to get around. This is how they got around the
bus system. And the buses were empty in Montgomery. So
they had this movement. It turned it, this boycott turned
into a movement supposed to last the day, and it
turns into a movement. And guess who the movement that
Rosa Park started but not giving up he sipt. Guess
(11:32):
who that movement chose as their leader. The young Reverend
Martin Luther King Junior was the leader of that movement.
So the bus system was crippled. That one was on
the buses, they had no revenue, cabs walking, so of
course to see officials responded to Montgomery by threatening to
(11:54):
rest the taxi drivers. And when they threatened to do that, people,
as I said, started walking, taking horse drawn carees. They
weren't getting on the bus. Rosa Parks was arrested a
second time, so was Ed Nison, the local civil rights leader,
and of course Martin Luther King mlk's house fire bombed.
(12:14):
Six months after all of that, and what was supposed
to be a one day protest, and the bus system
in Montgomery aled, but Obama. Six months later, a federal
court declared the segregation on Montgomery, Alabama's buses were unconstitutional Alabama,
the state government appealed the Supreme Court uphold that upheld
that ruling, and that ruling is what led to the
(12:36):
Civil Rights Act in nineteen sixty four. In nineteen fifty six,
more than three hundred eighty days after Rosa Parks refused
to give up her seat, the Montgomery boycott bus boycott
finally ended three hundred eighty days, more than a year.
It was supposed to last a day, so many people
got behind it, it lasted more than a year, three hundred
eighty days. Godble makes appointed Without Rosa Parks, there would
(12:59):
be no boycott, there would be no Martin Luther King
rising to perhaps the top of the civil rights But
that was the spark civil rights movement. The spark was
Rosa Parks, who was one hundred and twel years would
have been one hundred twelve years old yesterday for not
giving up her seat. That's Black History Month is all
(13:19):
of February. We've had some people on the Telemorte text
line four nine four to five Women's Game Time as
Telly time asking us to commemorate that, and I thought
this would be a good time to talk with Rosa
Parks's birthday, good time to talk about I knew Rosa
Parson's background, I didn't quite know that the civil rights movement,
Martin Luther King's first and widespread involvement was from the
(13:42):
Montgomery bus boycott. I also didn't realize, Chris, that boycott
lasted for more than a year. You were shaking your
hair like you knew that. Yeah, and that's amazing, right
if you can put yourself in that time, which is
impossible now, but put yourself in that time in white
segregated Alabama. For that movement to have that many supporters
(14:02):
to hurt the bus system that much that it lasted
for three hundred and eighty days, is it remarkable. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (14:09):
Not easy to pull something off like that, but they
were willing to risk it and it was a success.
Speaker 2 (14:14):
Yeah. That's a really neat story from Rosa Park, say
the least, and the precursor of the act that spawned
Martin Luther King's civil rights movement across the South. Four
four five one on Telemo to tech signment, it's game time,
It's tele time. When we come back, we're going to
talk about the Seahawks quest to get a better offensive line.
(14:34):
It's included some extra attention last week of the Senior
Bowl to a multi position guy. Here we go. You serious,
I am serious because they have to do it in
order to get better or they're not going anywhere. So
last week of the Senior Bowl, coach Mike McDonald and
GM John Schnyder were there, and we'll talk about the
(14:57):
difference that already is compared to last off season. And
then we're going to tell you about a college prospect
that those two talk to. McDonald and Schnyder talked to
twice last week while in Mobile. That's next. Humellon at
eleven o'clock to talk about the Super Bowl about what
he thinks the Seahawks need to prioritize and do right
away to get better this offseason. Eleven thirty five. Eleven

Speaker 2 (16:05):
Back at jo jump what we do? Welcome back Greg
Belt Show with Christopher Camberroll's on here, Chris, that's Outcast.
One of my favorite outcast songs titled Rosa Parks turned
one hundred and twelve years old yesterday. One of you,
at least one of you on the text Ligne didn't
appreciate listening about Rosa Parks and her history and legacy.
(16:25):
Three six oh says not sure we need a civil
rights lesson on a sports channel. I would argue we
need a civil rights lesson wherever we can find it
in our society today. Some others of you appreciating that,
Thank you. I thought we could all get something out
of that. The Seahawks got something out of going to
the Probe, but the Senior Bowl last week in Mobile, Alabama. Chris,
(16:46):
We've talked about this, I've written about it. Perhaps the
biggest difference between the Seahawks offseason this year versus last
year is Mike McDonald's involvement in the personnel, scouting and
drafting side this time last year. Remember, he just got
hired four days ago, officially introduced on February first, twenty
twenty four. Eight days later he hired his offensive coordinator.
(17:07):
He and John Schneider hired Ryan Grubb. That didn't go
so well, and then after that they started cobbling together
their staff and for the next six weeks or so,
they hired twenty two new coaches. They painted the walls white,
as we all know, and it made a big national
story about that. They were changing their training plans. They
were changing their diet, they were changing their nutrition plans,
(17:29):
they were training their weight training plan, their weightlifting, they
were establishing practice schedules. Mike McDonald and his coaches did
not go to the Combine. It was the first time
I can now it's become a trend recently. Kyle Shanahan
forty nine Ers coaches didn't go last year Sean mcdah
and the Rams. I haven't gone in a couple years
to Indianapolis with the Combine, but this is the first
(17:49):
time of a team I've covered, and I started covering
the NFL in two thousand that a team I cover
it didn't send coaches to the Combine and sufficed to
Mike McDonald and his entire head coaching career, especially the
Seahawks tenure. Will never be less involved in the draft,
pre draft process and evaluations than he was last year.
(18:11):
Well not so this year. Already, the very first opportunity
Mike McDonald had to see eyes on in person in
the pre draft process was that the Senior Bowl last week,
and Mike McDonald was there. He was there with John Schneider,
and that alone should tell you that this is a
different offseason that can only help Seahawks. I would think,
remember this time last year, the Seahawks were their personnel
side in John Schneider's college scouts and pro personnel player
(18:34):
personnel guys largely intact. I mean they had defections in
Scott Fitterer and Dan Morgan, but largely intact from the
last decade or so. Yet the coaching staff was brand new,
so the coaching staff had to rely on Schneider and
his personnel staff. Okay, we got you, we trust you.
You bring in the guys, we'll coach him. And the
(18:56):
personnel side. Schneyder's side didn't really know. They heard and
Mike Donald told him, but they hadn't seen firsthand how
McDonald wants to play and what kind of players he needs,
what skills they need. Well, now they do, and now
McDonald is with Schnyder, and they have a better understand
far better understanding how each other works. That has to
be able to help how the Seahawks draft this year.
(19:17):
I can't make it worse, of course, it could only
be better. So having said all that, last week they
go to the Pro the Senior Bowl, and the Senior
Bowl is most important for the practices. The game itself
becomes up somewhat anti combat. They gets the practices, the
one on one pass rush drills, the quarterback and how
his steps are running back, can he pick up a
pass rusher? And the Seahawks one prospect apparently caught their eyes,
(19:40):
Sacramento State offensive lineman Jackson Slater. He's a football Championship
Subdivision All American played guard at sack State, but he
was a center last week and mobile at the Senior Bowl.
The Seahawks online site Fangals set reporters will be able
Alabama last week and they talked to Jackson Slater from
Sacramento State, the guard that was a secon last week,
(20:01):
and Jackson Slater said that the Seahawks were the only
team in the NFL to request a second interview last week.
In mobile with Slater, Slater thought it was a great
experience for him. He said, quote, I think I accomplished
everything I wanted this week, and that is especially important
for players from small schools like myself. Now, small school
(20:22):
is a relative term, he means, of course, compared to
the Big Ten, the SEC, and the Big twelve. But
Sacramento State and Division one Double A isn't exactly the
hinter lens compared to say, the Division two or Division three.
Slater said, quote, I think center will be my best
position going forward. A mix of desirable measurements in football.
IQ it's a it's a I think it's a place
(20:45):
I'll thrive. Chris, we talked about the center position so
much it's almost not even worth mentioning anymore ten centers
and ten years since they traded the Seahawks traded Max Hunger.
They thought they had their guy last year and Connor
Williams coming off knee surgery and up and walked away
from not only the team but the sport in the
middle of the season at age twenty seven. That's the
only reason Louis with Timmy was starting at the end
(21:07):
of last season because Williams left. They brought in Williams
to replace Oliver with Timmy. They had tried to sign
Nick Harris last offseason for the former University of Washington
center from Cleveland, to perhaps compete with Oliwa Timmy. By
the end of the season, they were so unconvinced about
old Timmy being the long term solution at center, Christian
Haynes was taking practice snaps at center. He didn't appear
(21:28):
in a game at that position, but he was practicing
at center at the end of this past season. Haynes
has never played center never. He was a forty nine
consecutive start guy at right guard at Connecticut and he
tried and failed to start at right guard this past season.
So needless to say, Olial with Timmy is not their
answer long term. He's not convinced him anyway. I asked
McDonald the day after the season ended, is Christian Haines
(21:50):
is a guard something viable still try again to this offseason.
He said, we're still looking at that. And now obviously
they're looking at Jackson Slater at center, Chris Laken. Tomlinson's
not coming back in his early to mid thirties with
the performance he had last year. And we've mentioned right
guard Anthony Bradford. If he was their guy, they wouldn't
have tried Christian Haynes at right guard as a rookie.
(22:12):
Bradford after his second year hasn't convinced him either, and
he's a draft pick from the previous coaching staff. So
they need three new answers at left guard's, center, and
right guard this offseason. That's sixty percent of the offensive line.
And that's assuming that Abe Lucas comes back as healthy
as he's proclaimed. He told me on locker clean out
day he hasn't been this healthy since he's been in
(22:33):
the NFL. That I've mentioned it before, I'll mention it again.
He told me that the doctors told him when they
repaired his tendon last January January twenty twenty four, it
would take twelve months for it to fully heal and
him it back to full go. Of course, he played
nine months after, but only now this month, in the
last couple of weeks has it been twelve months since
that surgery for Lucas And he said this offseason he's
(22:54):
going to be able to train fully like he hasn't
since he was at Washington State a few years ago.
So if you assume he's healthy and go, he's your
guy at right tackle obviously, and a left tackle. Charles
Cross is obviously entrenched in perhaps in line for a
dare I say it second contract for a Seahawks offensive
lineman they drafted, but the middle Chris Is We know
(23:17):
the infamous quote from last combine of John Schneider saying
that guards are overvalued and overdrafted. Yet now the Seahawks
find themselves in need of two of them, and they
need a new center, or at least they think they
need a new center. With all of Timmy's still on
the roster for two more years and out of club control,
it would not shock me if one of their highest
draft picks is an interior offensive lineman.
Speaker 1 (23:40):
They don't have any room for error and then you
throw on the discussion around Geno. Well, yeah, don't pay
him and you can draft the guy you can find
a free agent. Are you guys really willing to trust
John Schneider to get that done and bring in a
talented old lineman. We have examples of offensive line when
(24:02):
that didn't work. Greg just gave you a bunch of
them just now. So are you really willing to bet
at having all this money by not bringing back Geno,
by not resigning Draymond Jones?
Speaker 2 (24:15):
Wait, we're not saying they're not bringing back Geno?
Speaker 1 (24:17):
Well, I'm just hypothetically though, right, or are redoing his
contracted really, but let's just go with the extreme. You
were just like, we're not Renna cut Ties. We're not
gonna pay this guy down. They just release him. So,
with all that being said, are you really confident that
you're gonna a the quarter of position is still going
to be better, if not the same. And then on
top of that, all that money that you now have,
(24:38):
you're gonna put that to places that need fixing. And
Greg mentioned the offensive line, That's where I say, yeah,
you probably could take at the eighteenth overall, take the
best linemen available on your board, whoever that might be,
guard tackle, get them in the building because at this
point you can't miss. They've missed last year. Christian Hayes
(25:00):
an't work out.
Speaker 2 (25:00):
So what not yet? Of course, I mean quick give
up on him. You've never given up. But as it's stand,
you know, it has to do change. Chris is the
people making the decisions and the decisions they make and
the methodology Humanlon's talked about this, but the methodology how
they evaluate offensive linemen have to change. Right. Wonder if
John Benton, the new offensive line coach coming in from
(25:23):
the Saints with Quinn Kubiak, how much sway is he
and say is he going to have in the evaluation
of offensive lineman. He's been in the game for fifty
of thirty three years, he's been a coach nineteen in
the NFL. Maybe listen to him. That's a new voice.
Listen to somebody.
Speaker 1 (25:38):
My goodness, it's at this point you're just I'm running
out of things to say. It's kind of like what
the Mariners and what they do in the off season. Oh,
they don't make any moves. Well, the Seahawks really don't
make any big splash moves. And when they do, they
have to make other moves to make up for a
said move, right, and we have examples of that. Right,
(25:58):
they have to go out and get another line back.
We'll trap, We'll get these two guys. They're good. Mid
season Mike McDonald's like, no, they're not good, And we
have Hugh On telling us they don't have sand in
their pants, they can't move nobody, they're not fit, and
what do you know, a few weeks later, he was
on the money new linebacker in and he is not
the entire reason why the defense had a monumental change,
(26:22):
but he has played a huge role in a part
in that. And that's why everyone's banging their hands on
the table to bring Ernest Jones back. Get that deal done,
because if you guys keep waiting, the price is only
gonna go up. And John Snyder is he's cheap. In
my opinion, I'm just gonna say it, he is very cheap.
He goes out and Nichols and dimes as much as
he can and then tries to make up for it,
which is fine because you know, for the most part
(26:42):
he can make up for it. But he's in that
position because he's Nickeolin Diamond, instead of going out and
just saying, you know what, let me go ahead and
pay Greg Bell. A couple of years he's been really great.
We're gonna get the dill done. Hey, we got a
good player. Instead, he's like, you know what, we're gonna hire.
Speaker 2 (26:57):
We're gonna go.
Speaker 1 (26:57):
Out and get exact behavior. Jackson, he's, you know, backup player.
He's pretty good. We think he can fit in Seattle,
and then he doesn't play a snap, So you just
have six million dollars is not playing. That's what John
Snyder is known for doing.
Speaker 2 (27:11):
Nave Jackson, Connor Williams.
Speaker 1 (27:13):
I didn't want to give these guys name because I
know they're still out there. Probably the it can go
on the gallery, Okay, you can stop. I think I
think fans understand that there's been a lot of people
that fit that category of we'll sign him for six
million dollars and they don't play, or they do play
and they're just awful, and then you type in their
name on Twitter and Seahawks fans are like.
Speaker 2 (27:31):
Who is this guy? Why do we have him? Why
is he starting? Well, it doesn't get better. You bring
up an interesting point about Ernest Jones because for all
the things they need to do in the offensive line,
the very first thing they need to do. Chris alluded
to it is the cost is rising on Earnest Jones,
which is why, which is why he hasn't signed already.
His agent is trying to drive him the price and
doing a good job. The Seahawks visited this during the season.
(27:52):
Once they saw immediately how good Ernest Jones was, they
tried to sign him or at least talk numbers to
him during the season, and Jones's agents at all, No, no, no,
We're going to let our guy keep playing for you
and you can keep seeing what his value is that
by the end of the season we can assess this fully.
And that's why he hasn't been signed yet. They have
until March twelfth, because Chris, March twelfth is when free
(28:12):
agency begin. Actually March tenth is when the legally tampering
period begins. If it gets to there a guy who's
never been a free agent before. We talked about this
earlier this week. This is the situation that every little
kid the dreams of playing in the NFL wants to
get to that. Everyone gets up at six am for
weightlifting and captain's practices for in high school and college.
The second NFL contract, that's where the generational wealth comes in.
(28:34):
That's where Ernest Jones is right now. So I don't
blame him one bit for waiting and holding and trying
to get the Seahawks price to drive up. But he
has stated he's going to be here. He wants to
be here. Everyone wants him to be here. Now it's
a just a matter of how much four nine four
five one on to tell him. We'll do text Lin
when his game time, it's Tully time. What do you see?
The Seahawks' biggest needs on their offensive line? Is it center?
(28:56):
Is it guard? Which guard? I mean, if you could
take your pick, because they both had problems last year,
although Lake and Thomlinson did improve by the end of
the season. And are you sold in the tackles? You
think they got their guys in Abe Lucas and that
left tackle Charles Cross has his moments, but he also
gets beat off him. I mean it's not I guess
(29:17):
you can say that almost about everybody, but on a
line that needs some stud he's not always studley. Yet
he's probably the best they got. So how are you
with the Seahawks offensive line, what individual guys need to
be moved out and moved in. Who would you like
to see him draft? If you are a draftnick guy
who knows about these guys, and I just gave you
a name to consider. Jackson Slater from Sacramento State reportedly
(29:40):
interviewing twice with the Seahawks last week at the Senior Bowl.
Coming out. Matthew Stafford. You've heard of him, He's been
in the news. There are rumors about him potentially leaving
the Rams. We'll talk about how that might be a
little more difficult. And I just got back from Detroit
last week, and I'm going to tell you how and
why this. The city of Detroit, the state of Michigan
(30:01):
still love Matthew Stafford. He's revered there. At eleven o'clock,
we'll talk to Humellon. I might ask him about Matthew
Stafford in his opinion of him. He'll join us as
he does every Wednesday at eleven o'clock and eleven thirty
real wea be back to text four nine, four to
five one and tell him we do text line. All
that coming up on ninety three point three kJ R
FM Welcome back to the Great Belt Show with Christopher
(30:27):
kady are on ninety three point three kJ R f M.
One thing I forgot to mention and meant to during
talking about Jackson Slater from Sacramento State. He's from Newport
High School. He's a four point zero student. It was
one of his texters pointed out, and thank you for
reminding me. I didn't mention that. He said he's known
him since he was a kid. He was a four
point oh student. This is from Chris at the four
(30:47):
two five Yes on Jackson Slater known him since he
was a kid. Nobody's stronger four year started at sax
State and toughest nails, four point oh student in high school,
so very high IQ player exclamation point. Have you seen
what Kirk Cousins is up to this week in New Orleans?
I have not. He's been going around the national media,
stopping by Radio Row at the Super Bowl and saying
(31:09):
that he played hurt last year. Oh I bet he did.
I could tell he wasn't healthy. I knew that it
wasn't achilles, it was shoulder and all these other things.
How about your old buddy, our buddy, the Orlando led
better remember him? Yes, favorite of the show. Listeners love
that guy. He's been writing and saying. This week in Atlanta,
we asked Kirk Cousins. I asked Kirk Cousins personally multiple
(31:31):
times if you're hurt, and he said no. The Falcons
kept saying no. They even had him listed on injury
report before a game against the Saints, and after the game,
Cousins went so far to say that it was quote
a clerical error. Now he's injured. Those Oh he's injured.
Why is that he's trying to find a new job.
You want to pay me all this money? Exactly? I
(31:53):
was playing hurt. I sucked and led the league interceptions
because I was playing hurt. Yeah, we're good, but appreciate you. Though.
Orlando Better is getting the kick out of that in
as he should. You know, you know he lion. He
is in Los Angeles. Matthew Stafford. We already heard about
Cooper Cup, and Cooper Cup comes right out and says
the Rams are looking to trade me and he doesn't
(32:15):
want to go. And now there rumors that Matthew Stafford
could be available. He turns thirty seven in two days,
but he only has four million dollars guaranteed left on
his contract that comes this year. He has no guaranteed
money next year. The problem right now is his contract stands.
Is the Rams trade him, they would take a cap
hit of forty five point three million dollars, even more
(32:37):
than Geno Smith's cap number forty four and a half
currently before the Seahawks change his deal. They can't The
Rams can't possibly trade that deal. They can't trade a
deal that they're going to still be absorbing forty four
and a half million dollars. So that contract's going to
have to get redone somehow before anything could entertain trade
in him for him. But suffice to say that the
(33:02):
Rams are trying to go young in a hurry. They
went young on defense, and now they're trying to go
young on offense. They have Pook and a coup. Of course,
they think they have a good stable young running backs
that impressed them last season, and now they think they
might be able to do it by getting rid of
Cooper Cup is now in his early thirties and Matthew Stafford,
who turns thirty seven on Friday. It's I can already
(33:23):
hear people saying that's Stafford to the Seahawks. He's better
than Kirk Cousins do is an option. He's better than
Sam Darnold is an option.
Speaker 1 (33:32):
I'll say that they wanted traded, I would be I
would I mean, I wouldn't be too mad at that.
But that's not a long term solution. No, it's it
doesn't do anything. You put yourself in the same position. Well,
he only has what a year or two left to
his country currently ends twenty twenty six.
Speaker 2 (33:44):
I don't know. If I don't, we'll see what happens.
Speaker 1 (33:48):
But that sucks with the Rams because I don't know
what they're going to do a quarterback after him if
he does leave.
Speaker 2 (33:54):
Yeah, that and Sean McVay is such a quarterback guy
and he's had a won a Super Bowl with Matthew Stafford,
I'm not sure that that would be the answer, and
I'm not sure that the Rams, even if they want
to trade him, would trade him inside a division and
have to face them twice into Seahawks. Matthew Stafford I
mentioned last week, I went back to Detroit see my parents,
(34:15):
moved them into an assisted living care situation. And for
those of you who've gone through that, you know what
I'm talking about that is no picnic. That's a challenge.
The Lions fans were just I mean, they're like not
coming out of their houses after that playoff loss at
home to Washington when they were the number one seed
and thought they were going to go to the super
Bowl for the first time. Well, that first division round
(34:37):
playoff game cost a lot of money on the secondary
ticket market in Detroit, as you can imagine, because again
they thought they were going to the super Bowl. There
was a fan who sold in Detroit, sold his prize
autograph Matthew Stafford Jersey so he could take his daughter
to that Lion's divisional playoff game against Washington. Matthew Stafford
(34:59):
heard about this, so what he do He turned around,
He called the Lions to try to find out who
that person was, and he ended up tracking that guy
down and he sent that fan a Game warn Jersey
that he Stafford had saved from the Lions twenty fourteen
(35:20):
playoff run. So that guy sold his Stafford Jersey to
get the money to take his daughter to the playoff game,
and Stafford gives him a Game Warn Jersey from the
twenty fourteen playoffs with the Lions to replace it. So
the dad wins and wins again, loses his jersey but
wins with his daughter, wins because Matthew Stafford gives him
(35:42):
his jersey, his own jersey out of his house to
replace it. Man, that just another example of having spent
a lot of time in Michigan here in the last
few years now that my parents live there, of how
much Matthew Stafford is just absolutely beloved there. He didn't
have the success, he never got to a Super Bowl.
He finally got to with the Rams. It was always
can Matthew Stafford win the big one? Hey, Detroit, Kember could.
(36:06):
But the Lions fans in Detroit and the city love him.
And there are people like my parents who don't have
anything to do with football. There are people all over
Detroit who don't even care about sports who love Matthew Stafford.
And I thought that was a neat story of why
they love him. And when I heard that, well, yeah,
that fits from what I know about Detroit's a love
affair with Matthew Stafford. But he could he potentially be
(36:27):
on the trading block too. That'll be another story in
the NFL offseason. I'm gonna probably ask h Mellen about
his thoughts on Matthew Stafford as a quarterback, even though
he's now thirty seven years old. We'll also talk to
you about the Seahawks what they need to do. In
his mind, first, the priority number one, two and three
should be to get better. We'll talk about the Super Bowl,
what he thinks the keys are, and how the Eagles
(36:48):
could possibly derail the three peat for the Chief. Hue
Mellon is up next on ninety three point three KJRFM.
