The Mariners were off yesterday, but on Friday night the M's will start their homestand as they face off against the Minnesota Twins. Gregg and Christopher also react to the news out of the NFL, as the league has been ordered to pay $96 million to bars that said they were overcharged for Sunday Ticket, and $4.7 billion to fans who paid for the streaming package. Under federal antitrust law, those damages are tripled, bringing the total to more than $14 billion. The Lakers drafted Bronny James, will he play a lot or was this a gimmick move to allow LeBron to play with his son.... Also w/ no future USGA U.S. opens could there be a move where Chambers Bay hosts LIV golf?

And I want to mention again theWashington State Sportscaster of the Year. He's
on his way to Greensboro, NorthCarolina, to be honored with Kenny Albert
and a bunch of national people asthey do the National Sports Media Awards do
that every summer, every June, and ever fits you rightly, so the
first time winner this year of theWashington State broadcast Year, he's going to

(00:21):
join us at eleven o'clock to talkabout the crack and Draft today. He
and Mike Benton, who you heardthis time yesterday, are going to host
our Kracken NHL Draft Show from threeto seven at the thirty two Bar and
Grill in Northgate, which means DaveSofty Maller and Dick Faye are going to
be here in studio right after mefrom noon to three. Because the mayor
of Maple Valley, Ian Furness, you may have heard on this morning show

(00:47):
with Chuck or excuse me, beBucky Jacob and Chuck's gone and Ashley Ryan
interviewing Ian Furness. He's going tohave his golf tournament done in Maple Valley
today with all sorts of benefits andcharities that he's doing great things, especially
for the youth in our in acrosswestern Washington. So we're gonna talk you
ever to fitch you about the draft. The Krack can have the eighth pick

(01:10):
and they also have free agency beginningon Monday. A lot to talk about
there. Your text is always atfour nine, four to five one to
tell him what do text line? When it's game time, it's totally time,
and at eleven thirty it'll be timeto read back your text and inputs
to the show. So our crosstalk today will be with the Dave Softy
Maller, which means I won't talkat all. It'll just be him.
He has one question and that won'teven be a question, right, Hi,

(01:32):
Dave. Headlines brought to you byVenue Kings and venue Kings. That
was pretty good, by the way. You know, I hear enough.
You've been around Yeah, you've beenaround him enough. I hear him three
to six every day when he comesin, Hey kid, how are you
budd Ah? I'm gonna be allright, But those coves huh eh?

(01:55):
Yeah? Does he Actually he shouldn'tbring it up around you. That's sad.
You probab hear him in your sleepactually, like I said, three
to six, three to seven.Every day you get used to it,
you know, and then you seehim. It's like, hey' softy.
You probably hear him three to sixam. Two. The matters are back
home. As I said, they'regonna begin a three game series and night
against the Minnesota Twins. The M'sare twenty seven and twelve with a two

(02:17):
point five to four ERA at home. They're nineteen and twenty five with a
four five five ERA. On theroad. They've allowed nearly one hundred more
runs on the road than they haveat home, two hundred three to one
eleven. They've played roughly the samenumber games, four more. I think
it's five more games on the roadafter this road trip nine game trip had
just ended. This coming up isthe longest homestand yet this season. Three

(02:40):
series, nine games Minnesota, thenBaltimore's no picnic. That's going to be
tough. July three, four five, over the July fourth holiday, and
then they finish it up and thento Toronto Blue Jays with the British Columbia
Invasion is going to be a weekendfrom this one, not this weekend,
but next before they go back outon the Road. Tonight it's Logan Gilbert

(03:02):
with his two seven to one erastarting on Logan six forty pm start against
the Twins at the Yard and SotoTomorrow is gonna be a seven to ten
nighttime start. Sunday's one to tenbefore, as I said, Baltimore comes
in for three games. Seattle hasthat four and a half game lead on
Houston. Houston did not play yesterdayeither. Atop the American League, west

(03:23):
I mentioned the NFL finally lost insomething, which ever it happens, you
got to bring it up, especiallywhen it involves four point eight billion dollars.
The NFL has been ordered by ajury in Los Angeles to pay that
amount to customers of its Sunday ticketpackage of out of market games on television,
on grounds the packet violates federal anitrust laws. Federally and I Trust

(03:44):
guidelines say that penalty could triple, meaning NFL teams could be liable for fourteen
point four billion dollars in this.So if you add all that up,
how much money are people getting?Yeah, that's the thing. It depends
how many customers a million customers. The jury asked that question before before the
verdict. They decided on their verdictand that's how they're going to parcel this

(04:09):
out. But also involved as aninety six million of that money is going
to go to bars and restaurants whoalso are plaintiffs in this. Well,
that's going to be where all themoney goes there. So they claim they
jacked up the prices on Sunday Ticketartificially, especially when it came out in
the trial that ESPN last year wantedto buy the rights to out of market

(04:29):
games and then sell them to fans. Get this, Chris for seventy dollars
a year it costs I think, feeling it's like four hundred dollars a year,
right, three something. I think. I don't even know. I'm
at the game, so I don'tsubscribe to this, but those are you
four nine four five one, andI'm telling them to text on are you
do some money here? How manyof our listeners subscribe to Sunday Ticket?

(04:50):
A lot, probably, I wouldthink so, because there are a lot
of people that aren't from Seattle, that didn't grow up here, that moved
here and moved to the West.West Coast in general has a lot of
transplants who have ties to teams elsewhere. If you're a Seahawks fan, you
probably if you just care about theSeahawks, I doubt you would pay three
hundred plus dollars a year to getout of market games. But if you're

(05:11):
a Cleveland Browns fan, see,I really feel bad for you. If
you're Indianapolis Colts or Atlanta Falcons oryou name it, and you probably are
a Sunday ticket or at least youthought about it. It went to YouTube
this past year. How much isit now? I don't even know four
nine four or five one to tellthem to do a text line for those
of you that are Sunday ticket customers. You're gonna get some money apparently.

(05:32):
I'll tell you the caveat to thatin a second. But how much is
it? And what kind of quality? And what do you get for it?
And my son watches Red Zone andhe tells me all about that,
and he tells that I don't knowwhy people woul buy Sunday ticket because the
Red Zone gives you pretty much everythingyou need. The cliff Notes version of
all the other games. Here's thedeal. In this court decision, though

(05:56):
that the fourteen point four billion breaksdown, every team has to pay it
equally. That means the Seahawks wouldbe on the hook for four hundred and
fifty million dollars they in each ofthe other thirty one NFL teams. That's
no small change. We talked abouthow rich and how the NFL prints money,
but if you start half a billiondollars per team, that's going to
get some Chuck Arnold and Seahawks president'sattention. That's a little bit of money.

(06:20):
So of course the NFL is appealingthis. The appeal is going to
get hurt by the US Court ofAppeals for the Ninth Circuit here on the
West Coast, and the case couldgo to the US Supreme Court. And
know in the NFL, if theydon't get their way in the Ninth Circuit,
it will go to the US SupremeCourt. They've got enough legal wherewithal
time. That's a big no no. What they did, my goodness.

(06:40):
So again, the case is thatit violated federal anti trust laws by jacking
up the price and holding a monopolyon out of market games which were being
aired on over the air free televisionin the markets they were being shown at.
I can imagine if you lived inPortland. That makes sense that you
might be a Sunday ticket holder becausethere are a lot of forty nine er
fans down there. Yet there area lot of Seahawk fans too in the

(07:02):
local Portland stations show Seahawks home gamesand road games by and large as its
local market team. So that's,off the top of my head, one
market. I would think there mightbe some more Sunday ticket customers four nine,
four or five one. Again, help us out there in the telemovie
text line, what you think isSunday ticket overall as a product, and
how much it costs you in whatyou're getting for it, and pending an

(07:26):
appeal, you're gonna be owed somemoney. Well, I don't know how
much money that's going to break downto the number of customers they have.
I mentioned ever, fits you joiningus at eleven o'clock. The NHL Draft
sixty second entry draft is today. They're gonna have this sphere in Las Vegas.
I told you I went to thatwatching too. Quite an event.
I don't know what kind of avenue it would be for a nin chill
draft, but it's getting attention beingat this that sphere in Las Vegas,

(07:51):
hardest place I've ever been to toget in and out of There's only three
doors for eighteen thousand people. We'reall on one side of the building,
so eighteen thousand people have to gothrough one way. I was, I
mean it was. It took likean hour and a half to get in.
It took us like two and ahalf hours to get out. You

(08:11):
got to go through a casino that'sattached to it, and they funnel you
through doors and steps and it's amess. I thought, well, okay,
after the show for fire code andeverything, they'll open all the doors.
They've got to be three door.Do that past the slop machines.
I'm sorry it was that was myown complaint. Otherwise, the sphere is

(08:33):
awesome. Well, hopefully they'll haveit better for the draft. Yeah,
I don't think the top picks andtonight's until draft are going to be one
going through one door and half throughone door. The cracking of eight pick
or nine picks in the seven rounddraft, including the eighth overall pick today,
our cracking hos Mike Betton said onthe show two days ago the cracking
are likely targeting and offensive defenseman withthat eighth pick, perhaps Zane prec or

(08:56):
zeb Bie Billiam from the University ofDenver just want to national championship. We're
going to talk with everet Fitsche ateleven o'clock about the NHL and specifically the
Krackens philosophy between choosing a college playerplayer straight out of the university American University
play system versus a junior league playerout of the OHL or the other junior
leagues. And there are some teamsthat have philosophies on that. We'll talk

(09:18):
to him at eleven o'clock about whatthe Krakens philosophy is about that. And
again, Everett fits You, thevoice of the Kracking and Mike Benton,
our pre and post game show hosthere on ninety three point three KGr are
going to have the Kraken Draft Showfrom the thirty two Bar and Grill and
North Gate at three to seven todayright here on KJR. The Storm last
night, another eighteen three hundred pluscrowd packed Climate Pledge Arena because Kaitlyn Clark

(09:41):
was back for the second time ina month. But the Storm beater thirty
four points from Jewel Lord jewel ooid. Excuse me, Cayton Clark had just
fifteen only three after halftime. Seattleeighty nine, Indiana seventy seven. It's
really impressive how Caitlin Clark has almostovernight transformed women's basketball. I mean eighteen

(10:03):
three hundred. Again, they onlyhad two crowds in there, one crowd
before Caitlin Clark entered the WNBA.The Storm only had that many people to
watch them one other time in Seattle, and that was the Super Bird retirement
game. We talked about telling youman happened twice in a month. Her
ability to shoot from anywhere on thecourt. She made one from the logo
last night. Did you see that? Yes? I did. That's that's

(10:24):
a draw right there. And it'snot as if she does it heavy blue
Moon legit logo game does it consistently? Her heels were about on the s
of the Seattle Storm logo at midcourt and you've never seen that in the
WNBA. Never. Yeah, thatwas I did see that. That was
impressive, But she only had threeafter halftime. Part of the reason why

(10:45):
the Storm beat Indiana by twelve pointslast night. The Sounders they host Chicago
in the Stadium in Soto tomorrow night, seven point thirty. Kickoff here in
ninety three point three KJRFM our pregameshow with Jackson Feltz will be at seven
o'clock. Jackson tells me Chicago stinksand this should be another chance for the
Founders. The game plame, Jacksonsaid it. So if something goes yeah,
that's right, back Monday, weknow who to go to. That's

(11:05):
right. Speaking of disappointments, man, the US men's soccer team up and
down summer continued yesterday two to onelost a lightly guarded Panama and Cocoa America.
The Americans played most of the gamea man down after a red card
to Tim Waa. Did you seewhat he did? I did not fill
me in. He punched a Panamanianplayer in the head in the eighteenth minute.

(11:28):
There was frustration on the US sidebecause Matt Turner, the goalkeeper,
got hit and most people thought itshould have been carded, maybe red carded,
no card, no respectively, nored card on the Panamanian team,
so way in the middle of thefield, away from the ball, just
clubs this guy in the head andin Var and all that. Now you're

(11:50):
done. Even if the referee doesn'tsee it. Var will buzz down and
make sure the referee sees it.He did, and it was a rinstant
red card gone. That was inthe eighteenth minute. They had to play
at the last seventy plus minutes aman down. They actually had to lead
for a while and then became oneto one. They lost two to one
at the end. So now justto get into the out of the group

(12:11):
stage of Copa America, the tournamenttheir hosting, the Americans are going to
have to beat oh, fifteen timeCopa champion Uruguay. That's all. I
got to beat them on Monday. There was a couple other ways that if
so and so ties in Bolivia andPanama time, but the most likely scenario
is the US is going to haveto beat Uruguay to advance in Copa America

(12:35):
thanks to their two one loss toPanama yesterday. And now what Christopher Kidd
wants to talk about. To showLebron James not only picks coaches, he
picks his teammates, the Lakers draftedBrowny James with the fifty to fifth pick
overall in round two of the NBADraft. I don't know a ton about
the NBA Draft, but I doknow that the second round picks off.
It don't even make the team, right, it was going to happen.

(12:58):
So this was a pick in destiny. But there's no way this wasn't gonna
happen, right unless someone wanted toscrew the Lakers and pick and then make
for the Celtics should have done that. Weren't they picking right in front of
the Lakers before leave? So butI think what's gonna happen is they're going
to sign him to a ten daycontract with the Lakers and he's gonna play
a game, oh, just onegame and say they did it exactly.

(13:20):
He's not Lebron James is gonna letthe Lakers cut the sun. I'm sorry,
the tape doesn't lie unless this LebronJames decides what goes on in the
Lakers, does he? Jj Redickis the coach of the Lakers. Hard
time believing he is going to reallyplay for the Lakers. Will Bronnie James
play more than one game? Withhis dad? He's gonna play ten day

(13:43):
deal? Really? Yeah, he'llbe in the g He's already under well,
okay, he'll go to He'll bein the G League. He'll get
his run in the G League, but for one game, probably to start
the season. He will get aten day deal. I thinking he's going
straight to the Lakers bench and thenjust sitting there can be on the team
with Pops. Yes, and thenand that's why J Reddy. All Lebron

(14:05):
James has to do is give ahead nod to JJ Reddick's podcast, Buddy,
and here comes Bronnie James again. That'll be the one game, really,
just one game. I don't seethis being a thing where he's playing
five minutes a game. There's justno there's no way it'll be. It'll
be, for example, when Lebronhit the when he passed Kareem. Once
it's over, it's over. It'snot going to be. You think one

(14:26):
game and that I don't. Idon't make sense. So it doesn't make
any sense for Bronni to play anymoreafter that. It does. Lebron James
is on the Lakers, That's whatsense it makes. He's not good enough.
We know that Lebron James doesn't care. That's that's why I believe he
will play one game. And heplays more than one game, then I
honestly don't know what to think. That'd be just batter. You think that

(14:48):
that's bad guy who who decided whohis coach is going to be this year
for the Lakers. Also got toput that would be really badly bad.
It's really cool. I like,I love it. I think that's really
cool. Well, they gets toplay with his son, because that's no
it is. But the closest thingwe've seen is what Griffy and his son.
I didn't strike me at all whenthe Lakers drafted him that that was
a ceremonial one day probably thing Ididn't. It's not going to be,

(15:11):
Oh, Bronnie's played twenty Laker gamesthat that won't happen. Really, no
way in hell. There's just oh, it's a very good way in hell.
Well, bron James is on theteam. I know he's on the
team, But I don't think thepool is that we're gonna play Lebron Brownie,
because we're gonna play a more thanone game? All right, where's
Travis? Where's Travis? We needto throw down another five hundred? Is
Bronnie James is gonna play more thanone game? Honestly, don't see it.

(15:35):
There's alak he averaged four points agame. Oh, I get it.
No, I get it, Iget it. I absolutely get it
if the Lakers understand practice, Iunderstand he shouldn't. I'm saying, will
he Christy didn't even play that much? Is it nonpractice that JJ Reddick is
the coach of Lakers? I know, Hey, I honestly, with the
new age and how things are,I don't know. I am not.
I don't cover the NBA. Iwatch it as a lot of folks do,

(15:58):
but I honestly don't understand what they'redoing. But I'm just saying,
Lebron James decides quite a bit withthe Lakers. Shoot, he got four
championships. I get it. He'sHe's decided a lot, and things have
worked out and things have not workedout. So we gonna find out by
the end of the twenty twenty fourto twenty five season how things worked out.
That's interesting. I didn't even considerthat he would just be a ceremonial.

(16:19):
Yes, just one game, Hey, Bud, you're getting You're playing
one game. You get to playthrough dad. Cool, back to the
G League. You go. Theymade history. All Lebron James has to
say is no, I don't wanthim to go. Sorry, Lebron,
your son is averaging four you canfire me. That's fine, we'll give
you. You know what, youcan just go to you and your son
go play together two on five.See how you guys do in the G

(16:41):
League. And Santa Cruz. Sure, sure, there's no way in hell.
If I'm if I am Genie bussAm I going to say, oh
yeah, he's signed here for aextended period. Ten day. That's it.
That's what I'm doing. Ten daycontract. You can play with your
dad. Basketball merits okay, WashingtonStates. Jalen Wells went thirty ninth overall,

(17:03):
by the way, in Round twoyesterday to the Memphis Grizzlies. And
since we're talking about Round two ofthe NBA Draft, let's mention the best
second round pick in NBA draft history, Isaiah Thomas the Sacramento Kings, the
last pick of a NBA draft. And look what he did text four nine,
four to five one to tell himwe do text lin in his game
time. It's Tully time. BronnieJames and lebron James just a one day

(17:26):
cameo with the Lakers better be well. I'm not saying it shouldn't be the
same. It's going to be upnext. Chambers Bay and Pierce County I've
played a couple of times covered theUS Open there. They've been trying to
get the PGA's rotation back into thatrotation for the US Open, but it's
not going to happen for at leasta long time. So Chambers Bay leaders

(17:48):
are going to talk to the controversialarrival about hosting its events at that's storing
the News Tribune this morning, andI'm going to tell you about it next
to ninety three point three kJ RFM, Welcome back, Dreg Medal the News

(18:11):
Tribute and Christopher Kid with you aswe are every day from ten am to
noon every weekday. Anyway you aroundninety three point three KJRFM, Happy Friday
to you four nine four one totell him more, Doue text sign when
it's game time. It's tul atime already lighting up with opinions on Bronni
and Lebron James and Chris Kidd's assertionthat it's a one day ceremonial drafting.

(18:32):
He's gonna play one game and thenget sent to the G League and be
playing in Bakersfield the rest of theseason. The worst case is he becomes
the NASA's attempo. Giannis's brother, and he plays probably thirty games, but
he's just on the bench. Thatis the possibility, but I really don't
think Brownie's ready for that. Ijust don't think he's good enough. And
I know Lebron's his dad, that'sgreat and all, but I still think

(18:52):
the Lakers want to win, andunfortunately not unfortunately Bronnie is not going to
help him win. And I thinkwhen they they are JJ Reddick as their
coach. If JJ Rehdtick turned outto be a great coach or a good
coach, it doesn't matter. Idon't know anything that says he's not a
great coach, and I know nothingthat says he wouldn't be a great coach.
So with that being said, itcould all work out, it could

(19:15):
all blow up. We'll find out, though. From the four to five
thank you Joe Kick was a secondround pick from Denver forty first overall twenty
fourteen. I'm not going to evengo there. Yokic just team just missed
out. I don't know what histape looked like before, but I knocked
on him back then. I rememberwas that he wasn't going to be able
to stand the physicality of the NBAthey didn't think he was in shape.

(19:38):
His body didn't look He's proven thatwrong. Obviously. I would be curious
to look up his stats and numbers. I think that would tell a different
story. If he was averaging let'ssay, sixteen and ten. Okay,
there's something to work with. BronnieJames was averaging four points per game.
We all know that. We're notdisputing that. So then he's Lebron James's

(20:00):
and Lebron James plays for the Lakers. And I think the Bronnie James will
play for Lakers I think pretty obviousin my opinion. I think they want
to win and Bronni why did theydraft him? Then they want the draft?
Why did they hire JJ Reddick LebronJames podcast buddy, I don't have
those answers. Well, you knowwhy I don't Lebron James is why Lebron
has said that he had nothing todo with it. Oh, I'm sure

(20:21):
he had nothing to do with it. He was like, hey, thanks
for I'm surprised you hired JJ Reddick. I'm shocked you you soon drafted my
son. It was a pleasant surprise. If he's telling the truth, come
on, man, hey, Lebronlies about a lot of stuff, but
hiring of JJ Reddick, if hehad nothing to do with it, is
he better than Darvinham. We won'tfind out. We are gonna find out,

(20:44):
but it ain't because the Lakers justwoke up and said, hey,
JJ Reddick sounds like a pretty goodcoach. The US Open Golf ersion isn't
coming back to Chambers Bay through atleast twenty forty two. If ever,
that's how far out the USGA hasbooked the Open, and it doesn't have
Chambers Bay and University place on it. Of course, we remember in twenty
fifteen the US Opened the controversy amongplayers about the greens. They said it

(21:07):
was like putting on broccoli they putthey put the wrong grass in. They
were trying this and it didn't work. And then it got super hot in
June. It was ninety plus degrees. I was out there covering of trapesing
around the dunes and they were thoseplayers are bitching well to the US Open
isn't coming back at least for anothereighteen years plus. But Pierce County executives,

(21:30):
they aren't just sitting around. Nowhere's what that It's an interesting story
today my colleague and the News Tribuneand John Manley rights that Pierce County executives
are expected to begin discussions soon withSaudi backed Live Golf. That's according to

(21:51):
Donn Anderson, the Executive Council toPierce County Executive Bruce dan Meyer. John
Manley the News Tribune rights quote, have representative from Live Golf's marketing agency recently
reached out to Pierce County to setup a discussion. At this point,
Anderson again the Executive Council to thePierce County Executive Bruce Danmeyer. He said,
they're all Ears, Chambers Bay andPierce County executives are and they expect

(22:15):
to hear from Liz Golf's resent representativesin the next couple of weeks and talk
to them. Anderson, the PierceCounty Executive Council said this to the News
tribunes John Manley quote, Live hasits own issues through golf politics, world
politics wise. You have to becareful. There no kidding back by the

(22:37):
Saudist. They throw a great party. Though fifty four golfers, fifty four
holes shotguns start. You generate fivemillion or so in concession and merchandise sales
from that aspect, they're very attractive. Once again, money talks. That's
his whole reason golf exists Anderson quoteif they follow up with their indirect inquiry

(23:00):
Listen. Of course, you know, Live Golf founded into twenty twenty one
as the golf tour arrival to thePGA Tour. Their controversy comes, of
course from the people who are backingit. It's the Saudi monarchy, Kingdom
of Saudi Arabia, human rights abuses, killing journalists in Western world, the
whole nine. Critics feel Saudi Arabiais using its oil wealth and its public

(23:23):
investment fund to fund this Live Golfand quote sportswash, the term is its
negative image signing all these top Americangolfers getting Greg Norman on board. They
have an event, I believe inPortland, and now they're thinking about having
one in Chambers Bay and Cha Bayis thinking about having them. So the

(23:45):
massive the rift between Live Golf andPGA has lessened somewhere recently with the news
that PGA and Live We're going tobe the truce and perhaps not be so
acrimonious. And we remember the wholecontroversy about PGA tour golfers ticked off that
some live golfers left for guaranteed money, like Bryson Deschambeau and Usin Johnson and

(24:08):
Brooks Kopka and Phil Mickelson and JohnRahm. You heard the story that Live
golf wanted to do Tyler Wood TigerWoods with a nine digit high dying digit
figure and Woods didn't do it.So that's what Pierce County and University Place
is thinking about doing with Chambers Baysince the US Opens not coming back.

(24:29):
When the US Open came here intwenty fifteen, I covered that for the
News Tribune. The Pierce County executivesthought they were in the rotation. They
thought that they would wow the USGAwith their course, with their views with
the weather here in June and thelink style golfing and how unique that was
to US Opens. They were hopingto get in the Pebble Beach, Oakmont

(24:52):
Pinehurst rotation. Well it's been aone and done because of those crazy greens
that they've since fixed. They changethe grass after that failed US Open,
and the greens by all accounts, have been great. There's been some amateur
four ball tournaments and women's amateur tournaments. I've covered a couple of those as
well down there. So the usghasn't totally ignored Chambers Bay, but they're

(25:15):
giving them those events amateur championships, national amateurs, but not the US Open.
So you can't blame Pierce County executivesto look for another place, another
way to generate revenue with their jewelof a course that's right there along Puget
Sound Live Golf. It's it's itis an alternative, and it's controversial as

(25:38):
it might be. Four nine oneon a tell them who did text line?
Do you? Are you concerned aboutthat? Or would you welcome to
Shambo and John Rahm and Phil Nicholsonand Dustin Johnson and Brooks Kopka on the
live tour at Chambers Bay for anevent. That's what they're talking about doing

(25:59):
here in the next couple of weeks. According to John Manley again in the
News Tribune, the Mariners are homecoming home tonight, as I said,
to start a three game series withthe Minnesota Twins. They still have a
four and a half game lead inthe American League West. I keep saying
this, but man, Chris,if you told us June twenty eight,
they'd be up four and a halfgames. That's a pretty good deal,

(26:22):
right, you're taking it. Idon't think there's a person out there there
would say I don't want it.They've never been in this position, right,
So you take it and you livewith the results. The results hopefully
are that in July it's back toan eight game lead. They beat in
this stretch that they had, theywon two out of three in these series.
That would be great. You watchtonight in this weekend, they're gonna
be They're gonna look like a playoffteam. They're gonna have crazy last nning

(26:47):
wins. The yard will be jumping. It'll be like Tampa Bay and Miami
never happened. That's the hope. That's exactly how they won so far.
Right, at least since mid April. They get a test, though.
I think they're like twenty six fiveor something since the end of April at
home, the best record in majorleagues in that span. That is the
hope that Baltimore comes in and that'llbe a real test of a team that

(27:10):
they're going to have to beat itwhen they if they make the playoffs,
if they win the division, they'regonna probably end up playing Baltimore at some
point. Baltimore and New York, two best teams in the league right now,
are both in the American League West, so one of the East,
one of those teams is going tobe a wild card. That'll be a
test three games. Now. What'sinteresting is I mentioned this the other day.
The Mariners have three off days fromYesterday through next Monday. They've gone

(27:33):
an entire month oft times this seasonwithout three off days. They played what
fifty two days in a row orfifty one out of fifty two days ending
a couple of weeks ago. Yetthey have three off days here. They
got an off day after this Twinsseries before Baltimore comes in here on Tuesday,
and then they have an off dayat the end of the home stand
after the Blue Jays come down, and then they head out on the Mariners

(27:56):
head back out on the road.So that injury to Brian Wu and put
him on the disabled list, theycan manage and massage that rotation, and
with those off days, he mightonly miss three starts out of the fifteen
days d O. And then yougo to the All Star break. So
Emerson Hancock, we're expecting to becalled up before tomorrow Night's game to be
the filling starter for Brian Wu becauseit is Hancock's turn into Tacoma rotation.

(28:21):
Pretty easy slide in. He's alreadybeen in the major league level playing.
He began the season for the injuredWu on Seattle's rotation, So we're expecting
Hancock to be the starting pitcher tomorrowwhen we come back. DK Metcalf and
Russell Wilson been training together this weekin Los Angeles. They started doing that

(28:41):
before Metcalf played his first NFL game. We'll talk about that next on ninety
three point three KJRFMS. Welcome back, Greg Bell, the News, Tobut

(29:03):
and Christopher Kid with you as weare every weekday ten am the noon here
on ninety three point three KJERFM.The beginning of that song is always soothing.
Put a smile on your face.It is soothing, Little Diddy.
I mentioned before the break that DKMetcalf and Russell Wilson are back together.
They've been training this week in LosAngeles that they first started doing before Metcalf's

(29:25):
rookie season with the Seahawks in twentynineteen. The Seahawks wide receiver in the
now Steelers quarterback. Yeah, youremember Russell Wilson's own Pittsburgh. They've been
doing passing and catching work on apractice field at UCLA this week. You
may remember this. They've trained togetherin Mexico before. In the winner of
twenty twenty, right before the pandemicshut everything down, Wilson hosted Metcalf in

(29:48):
Mexico for about a week. Theytrained on and off the field, They
played golf. Wilson even told usthat he taught Metcalf how to swim in
that week. So they've been doingthis for a while. My story about
this week's training in Los Angeles, video of it is up at the News
Tribune dot com right now. Thishas gotten a lot of attention in Pittsburgh.

(30:08):
They've been talking all off season.Of course, you may know the
Steelers have been on the search fora top wide receiver. Brandon Nyuk has
been someone linked to them as well. But DK Metcalf I was on a
podcast in Pittsburgh about a month ago, and all he wanted to ask me
about was DK metcalf his availability.Would they would the Seahawks trade him?
No, the fact that his contractends Metcalf's after next year. The twenty

(30:33):
twenty five season. We've talked aboutand how the Seahawks are likely to make
him their centerpiece, big money guy, because of their quarterback situation changing at
least after next year, if notbefore. But Pittsburgh is fairly intrigued by
DK Metcalf, at least the fansand the media and talk shows, and

(30:53):
it's a fascination they have with him. Russell Wilson, of course, is
on a one year deal, butmost people see as a trial thatks.
The Steelers would love for Wilson toget back to something of his Seahawks self
rather than that Denver disaster, andthen the Steelers would re up him after
this year. Of course, theyhave Justin Fields Younger, also on a

(31:14):
one year contract in from the ChicagoBears. But it got a lot of
attention Needles to say in Pittsburgh thatMetcalf and Wilson were working out together at
UCLA this week. But again I'mhere to remind that, as I reminded
people in Pittsburgh, this is nothingnew. And even when Wilson left the
Seahawks before the twenty twenty two season, Metcalf and Wilson have stayed tight and

(31:37):
they've trained together and they're always findingtheir way to southern California to train.
I don't know about you, Chris. I really do think that DK Metcalf
is going to be their one hundredmillion dollar player next and he's going to
be the guy that they invest heavilyin before next season, and that deal
probably will come down in training campat twenty twenty five. Let me throw
a wrinkle in there. I waslistening to the Mayor with Corbyn Smith yesterday.

(32:00):
I don't know if you caught ityesterday, but I forgot about that.
There's a reason why you were noton the show yesterday. Whether it's
not as if Greg just take abreak. But Ian and Corbyn we're talking
about DK Metcalf as targets, etcetera, and Corbyn had a interesting but
I think fair take, and hebelieves that JSM is gonna lead the team

(32:23):
of receptions. Now to your questionabout I having a question your statement regarding
DK getting the money. If he'snot leading the team of receptions and jsin
has taken that leap, what doesthat say, right? Do you the
Seahawks still value him as their numberone guy if they're guy in JSN,

(32:45):
who they took two years ago,is the leading guy? What does that
say? Does that say, oh, we can just keep JS in and
we're not going to pay DK,which would then teams will come well,
hey, DK, what do youthink about this? Could Pittsburgh come away?
But enough money? If Russ playswell this season and they say,
oh my goodness, JSN, that'sa great year. Now the Seahawks are

(33:07):
saying, okay, who do wevow you more? Second? You're going
this third year JSN DK, thatbecomes an interesting discussion. I didn't I
don't know if. I don't knowif Jayson can take that leap and be
the number one guy. But anything'spossible. Ty Lockett has done it year
in and year out. Somehow,I wonder, how the hell is Tyer

(33:29):
Lockett leading in this category? Howthe hell is Tyre Lockett? So I
think that's a fair question. Idon't know. I would just be very
interesting. It'll be very interesting tosee if Jasn does indeed lead the Seahawks
and receiving yards and receptions. Thatis, let's say, as like,
I don't know, one hundred receptionsthe next season in DK, okay,

(33:49):
seventy five, I don't know.I don't know a good number to throw
on with this new regime and everythinggot going. But when you asked that,
I'm thinking, wow, okay,So if JSN is leading the team
in receptions, well does that meanfor DK, Because obviously now it's like,
okay, well you're not our numberone guy. How much do we
want to pay you? We knowyou're good, but Jayson just blew you
out the water this season. That'sa strong supposition. That's a big leap.

(34:15):
DK Metcalf is their number one receiverI hear you see, and he's
considered that by the team, thefranchise, the general manager. We will
see how Ryan Grubb considers him.Gino Smith considers him. He's the guy
who decides where to throw the ball. I would be very surprised if the
Seahawks don't see DK Metcalf as theirnumber one receiver this time next year.

(34:35):
I would also be very surprised ifDK Metcalf doesn't get one hundred million dollar
contract to stay with the Seahawks beyondtwenty twenty five. Both something would have
to happen between now and then forthat not to occur. And look at
it though, right last season,Jayson had sixty three catches and DK had
sixty six. It's not too faroff, No, it's but just the

(34:57):
empirical numbers doesn't necessarily mean that arenow absolutely not. And yeah, that's
my point is even if Smith andJigbo leads the team in receptions this year,
that could be a product to howdefenses cover Metcalf, that could be
a product to how grub schemes JSNinto different places and he is moving them
around in the offseason practices. Italso doesn't mean that they don't still consider

(35:21):
Metcalf the number one receiver. Thefact remains, and I keep saying this
and watching it. There is nodefensive back on planet Earth who's six's four
and two thirty eight and can runand jump like Dk Metcalf, and I
hope there's no trek wooling out orRek wooling excuse me, that weighs more
right, But yeah, right,he's six y four but weighs like a
buck fifty. He weighs. He'smy way, guys, whatever they whatever

(35:44):
they list, Reek Woolan has justchop twenty pounds off of it because that's
about in person what he actually playsat. But the point again with Metcalf.
He's timing it right to be theSeahawks hundred million dollar guy after next
year. Because of the quarterback contractsituation. Geno Smith's contract ending after twenty
twenty five, He'll be thirty fiveyears old next year. Sam Howe's rookie

(36:07):
contract ending after twenty twenty five.Even if they think Sam Howe is the
quarterback of the future, which isa huge if he's not going to command
one hundred five million dollar contract thatGino Smith got, No way, and
Gino Smith's not going to command onehundred and five million dollar contract Geno Smith
got even two years ago. Somy point is that quarterback money can now

(36:29):
go to Metcalf. Not to mentionthat the salary cap is going to leap
again. It's already above two hundredand fifty eight million, is going to
go up again next year, soon and so forth. So the timing
of DK Metcalt free agency and agentsare smart. They could see this coming
down. This is their job. They give Metcalf a contract long enough to
coincide with the contract that ended. Now he signed it before Gino Smith did

(36:52):
re signed his. But the agentdid his job here. He got Metcalf
out of his contract while he's stillin his twenty and in a position to
get a bigger pay day if hewants to from the same team he drafted
him. That's lining up to yourpoint at Corbyn's point about JSN again,
if Ryan Grubb maneuvers the offense thatJSN is leading the team in catches,

(37:15):
they are bonkers on offense. Thatmeans that you've got three fifty sixty plus
catch guys and you probably have aneleven hundred yard running back. They're going
to the playoffs, so that happens. So everyone's happy, and that doesn't
change to me that DK Metcalf's stilltheir number one. Whatever the statistics may
end up eating, even if it'sclose. But it is interesting how Pittsburgh

(37:36):
is noticing every single thing talking aboutDK Metcalf, especially when he shows up
on the same field with Russell Wilsonin Los Angeles this week. I had
to tell some people back there,Look, they do this every year.
There's no real conspiracy going on,just friends that want to go play some
catch and get prepared for the nextseason coming up next. The sixty second
NFL Draft begins this afternoon Las Vegas, inside the sphere, we have our

(38:00):
Cracking NHL Draft show from three toseven with Everett Fitshu and Mike Benton right

three k j R FM.
