(00:00):
Near and dear to Seattle native ChristopherKid's Heart downtown starting at one pm at
the West Lake Centner. You're goingdown there? I am not. No,
I'm not going down I got myfriends getting married tomorrow, so I
will be attending that, and I'mjust gonna enjoy the weekend. That could
join me out here tomorrow on aSaturday, that's probably not no, Nope,

(00:20):
I will be back the following soI'll probably be out there next Monday
Tuesday. We'll see. They've gota live band stage they're setting up today
on the edge of the practice field. It's always great. It was acts
throwing the other day. Do youknow who the live band is? Is
there such a thing anymore? Idon't see a DJ, I don't see
any synthesizers. I don't see turntables. I see a guitar. I see

(00:45):
a drum set. So you haveno clue who's gonna be out there.
Okay, I'll find out. Isee amps and speakers. It's a little
precariously close to the field right now, but we'll see jam out. That
might be the pre practice entertain theprefunk. But yeah, there's something new
every day out here at Seahawks trainingcamp this year, it seems I don't

(01:07):
see the acts throwing yet we're gonnaget rid of that. I'm interested for
that to come back. I wantto see how that goes. You just
want to see if something bad happened. But it sounds like, oh,
someone lost a finger, you don'tsay okay. I cannot emphasize how many
papers I saw people signing on waiversbefore they went into it, or are
they just signing their name. They'rejust sign you if you lose an arm,

(01:30):
it's not our fault. That's whatthey're signing. The leasing It begin
every show with headlines right to byBenny Kings and Benu Kings dot Com.
Today's headline is obvious. Even biggerthan Seahawks and NFL training camps is the
fact that the Mariners made not onlya big move for them, it's really
the first big move of the tradingdeadline season yesterday, the first big deal

(01:51):
of an All Star player. Randyor Rosa Reina Cuban born outfitter for the
Tampa Bay Rays, as I mentioned, was an All Star out here at
the All Star Game last year inSeattle, he struck me. I covered
the game for the News Tribune inthe week, and I remember him going
down the pink carpet that T mobilerolled out right in front of Pike Place
Market when they were announcing the AllStars, and he was flamboyant. He

(02:14):
struck me as a very flamboyant, showy guy. Off to a very poor
start this year. But in aminute, we're going to get into the
numbers of what he is compared tothe rest of the Mariners lineup. And
as I mentioned, Jerry Depotl andJustin Holland are acquired a Rose and Reina
for not much, two prospects thatMLB Pipeline says they're not even in the

(02:34):
top one hundred in the league andsays are the twelfth and twenty second best
prospects in the Mariners organization. Soall this him and and Han and Angst
that I and everybody else have beentalking about, well, you shouldn't be
giving up top prospects to get abat for this lineup. They didn't,
and they still got a bat forthis lineup. And because they didn't give
away the top prospects, they couldstill make another move and they need to.

(02:57):
I don't think they're done. AndI don't think they need to be
done to fix this batting order. They are still in position to make another
big move in four days to doit before the trade deadline on July thirtieth.
The Rose Arena he mentioned here regionallyinstantly excuse me, becomes the most
accomplished hitter in Seattle's lineup. Hehad a really bad April and May,

(03:17):
but since Memorial Day. Listen tothis. Compared to his new Manner teammates,
he has the lowest strikeout rate, the most hits, the most doubles,
second most home runs, highest battingaverage on the team suddenly by seventy
eight points over anybody else the Marinershave. He has the highest on base
percentage on Seattle's team by eighty sixpoints. He has the highest slugging percentage

(03:40):
by one hundred and nine points. So yeah, the Mariners got better last
night with this trade, but it'snot enough, and we'll talk some more
about that. They still have roomto do some more in four days to
do it. The Mariners are inChicago to begin a three game series night
against the White Sox. It's actuallytoday's Seattle Time five ten start on Root

(04:00):
Sports. I would assume a RoseReino is going to be in the lineup,
probably in right field, maybe incenter, with Julio Rodriguez being on
the disabled list for at least acouple more weeks. George Kirby starting tonight
in Chicago against White Sox roockey DrewThorpe. It's a day game, evening
game Tomorrow, day game in Seattletime four fifteen on Fox and national regional

(04:20):
broadcast on Channel thirteen. Tomorrow,Brian wils starts against Eric Fetti, one
of the better starters young starters inthe America League. And then on Sunday,
it's a morning start at eleven tenam on Root Sports. Bryce Miller
against the White Sox best pitcher,Garrett Crochet, who's been rumored to be
on the trading block and a lotof teams and interest in him. Of
course. The Mariners begin play today, one game behind Houston in the American

(04:44):
League West. The trash Cans arehosting the Dodgers this weekend, so maybe
the Mariners can get some help thereout here at Seahawks training camp yesterday,
as we told you was likely tohappen this week. Earlier this week,
Julianne Love signed his three year contractextension. He had his high school sweetheart
wife julian Is, their eighth monthold son Noah, next to him as
he signed it inside team headquarters beforepractice. Then he went out and on

(05:08):
the starter's final play of the practice, he jumped and out wrapped by Jackson
Smith and jigb had made a divinginterception at Gino Smith's pass on the last
play for the starters. Out again, talk more about what I saw on
day two camp in a few minutes. The Olympic Games are beginning to night
in Paris. You may have heardthat do you see Snoop Dogg running through
jogging through Paris? Speed for Snoop? So, yeah, that's true that

(05:32):
he never has been at a fastpace as he did New Yeah, he's
uh, he's part of the torchrelay in Paris. Is going to leave
the torch into the stadium. Eventuallyit'll go into the stadium tonight. Part
of NBC's coverage. Snoop Dogg isa pretty high profile correspondent for NBC in
their coverage hasn't even started yet,Chris and we already have a controversy in

(05:54):
the competition Canada sent Holmes, didyou see this Canada sent home its women's
soccer coach after their game yesterday afteran assistant was caught using a camera on
a drone flying over the practice forNew Zealand. That was Canada's first opponent.
Yeah, at the Olympics. Canadabeat New Zealand two to one yesterday.

(06:15):
Then the Olympic Canadian Olympic Committee sentkept coach Bev Priestman home. TSN
in Canada is reporting the Canadian women'sand men's soccer teams. Men's team has
been really successful recently. They've beenrelying on drones to secretly scout opponents for
years. Maybe more coming out ofthat and maybe trickling down to the men's
side of the Canadian men's national soccerteam and controversy there before the Olympics officially

(06:42):
even begin tonight. The Sounders, they play in the League's Cup tonight outside
of MLS, play at seven pmat Lumenfield. They're taken on fellow MLS
side Minnesota. Seattle's lost just oncein fifteen matches all time against Minnesota.
Back here at Seahawks training camp,Sea Hawk, really who stood out to
me most, No, it's early, it's two days and we're still only

(07:03):
July. This happens with all ofus, Greg, Eve and I go
in there. I never forget beforeyou say this. I remember what was
it. I want to say twothousand and twenty two, maybe twenty two.
Yeah, I think it was twentytwo. I said, I think,
oh man, I've got a player. But I said, he looks
great. He looks really fast, twitching. He just looks really good.
I think he had like three sacksthat season. It was really rough.

(07:25):
I was so excited to watch himplay. I thought he was gonna have
a breakout year and it didn't workout. So, Greg, I understand
when you say it's too early. It's too early. They're not even in
pads. But I mean we gotto report and watch something that we've seen.
Right. Absolutely, things have happened. That's your job, Greg.
Things have happened, although it's notin pads. Derek Hall's happened. The
second round pick from Auburn last year, he played only twenty six percent of

(07:46):
defensive snaps as a rookie. Therewere some people in the building here who
thought Derek Hall should have played morelast year, and Pete Carroll decided to
play some of the veterans, andespecially after in Chenna and Wilson went down,
there were some people that thought DerekHall should have gotten more outside linebacker
reps. First day at camp onWednesday, he ran over undrafted rookie Garrett

(08:07):
Greenfield. He was so okay,Yeah, he was so fast off the
ball that it wasn't as if Greenfieldjust got pushed down he lost his balance
trying to catch up the Hall becausehow fast Hall was getting off the bone,
and Greenfield just fell right on hisbackside. That left Hall with a
clear path to startled quarterback Sam Howe. I couldn't believe someone was that freeing

(08:31):
and on him. And then thenext play Hall did the same thing about
anyone blocking him, and Al wasstaring at him. How'd you get here?
Get Hall coming in so fast?He was unblocked by anybody. So
after that performance on Wednesday yesterday,Hall got promoted to first team defense.
On some reps, he was oppositein WISU on the third play of an
eleven on eleven scrimmage, and thena couple of plays later, Hall zoomed

(08:54):
right past right tackled George Fan who'sfilling as as the starter right now,
while Abe Lucas remains out and definitelyfollow him that knee surgery. We talked
about Lucas and his story yesterday andas it was funny, is Hall was
moving in. I was about tenfeet away on the sideline on the Lakeside
practice field, and Hall was screaming, that's a sack, that's another one.
But of course you can't hit thequarterback. And so he runs past

(09:16):
Gino Smith who continued to play andcontinue to throw. But Mike McDonald's notice
him. And I asked Mike McDonaldabout Derek Hall after practice yesterday. Here's
what he said. Oh, yeah, d Hall. I think what we've
seen the best. What Dee Halldoes, it's hard to tell in this
tempo, but a physical presence, but a guy that has some drop ability

(09:39):
as well, you know, soyou can use them in different BOOTZ packages
and very sharp, move him upand down the line. Excited, just
excited to feel him out there. And we have pads on, you know,
especially when we're going against other teams. So that'll be a course.
On August the tenth, when theyplay their first preseason game, the Seahawks
two at the Los Angeles Chargers, and then October four, teenth and excuse

(10:00):
me. August fourteenth and fifteenth, when the Seahawks go to Nashville, Tennessee
to have joint practices against the Titans, Derek Hall will get a long chance
to go against other team, againstoffensive lineman from another team that whole week
before the Seahawks played the Titans Augustseventeenth in the second preseason game. What
do you mean by drop ability there? Well, he meant that at six

(10:22):
three and two sixty. The Seahawksreally like Derek Hall's size yet speed and
his versatility to go drop into passcoverage. And when he says he can
use different blitzes, A lot ofwhat Mike McDonald did as defensive coordinator with
the Baltimore Ravens last year was disguisinghis pass rushers to make it look like
offensive Extually, outside linebackers are comingat offensive tackles and then sending inside players

(10:46):
instead. And that versatility in Hall. I mean, let's face it,
Jennet Wilson is not getting paid fiftythree million dollars to drop into pass coverage.
But if you can have outside linebackerslike Hall and Mafe dropping into coverage
when it looks like their pass rushingand then send someone else inside instead.
That's the multiplicity and the trickiness thatMike McDonald's trying to get to. So

(11:09):
keep an eye on Derek Hall.I know we featured him a lot.
This morning. I talked to him. I talked to the Chuck and Buckets
seven am about him. I wroteabout him a story that's online at the
News Tribune right dot com this morning, right now, And I heard Hugh
Millen talking about him about a halfhour ago. Between all of us,
we try to should get a cutof whatever performance bonuses Derek Hall gets this

(11:31):
year from his agent. Coming up, We're trying to get a hold of
Mark Thompkins. Good, he's good, Thank you. He's on a plane
back from the Ray's road trip backfrom the last game. Randy A.
Roseraina played for Tampa Bay before hegot traded last night to Seattle. What
are the Mariners getting in Randy A. Rosarina, Mark Tompkins beat writer,
a long time beat writer for theTampa Bay time before the Rays talks to

(11:52):
us. Next on ninety three pointthree KJRFM now our non stop coverage joke.
Seahawks' training camp continues from the VirginiaMason up Athletics Center, brought to
you by Northwest Handling Systems, andthe twenty twenty four Bowing Classic August fifth
through the eleven. Now back tothe Greg Bell Show with Christopher Kidd on
Sports Radio ninety three point three kjrFM. Welcome back Greig Bell of the

(12:20):
News Tribune and Christopher Kidd with youon ninety three point three KJRFM are continuing
coverage of Seahawks training camp live fromthe end Zone of the Virginia Mason Athletics
Center and another beautiful Pacific Northwest dayon Lake Washington. Julian Love signed his
contract yesterday three years up to thirtysix million dollars. Prior to the second

(12:41):
practice, camp practiced three today againin helmets and shorts, Practice four tomorrow,
and then Saturday. They'll be Sunday, excuse me, they'll be off
when a mandatory players DOWFF. Wetalked about the Mariners making the first big
trade of the July trading deadline seasonin Major League Baseball. They got twenty
twenty three All Star outfit Randy A. Rose Arena from the Tampa Bay Rays

(13:05):
and joining us on the Beacon Plumbinghotline from Tampa. Just off a plane
and the end of the road tripthat a Rose areraina just completed with the
Rays is the long time veteran Raysbeat writer Mark Tomkin of the Tampa Bay
Times. Mark, good to talkto you. Thanks for joining us on
short notice. And man, you'vebeen covering the Rays since I was covering
the A's back of the early twothousand. It was a Saint Petersburg Times

(13:26):
the last time I think I sawyou. Yeah, yeah, I mean
I started really young, because thisis year twenty seven that I've been on
the beat, so I've kind ofseen it all. And some days that's
a good thing, and some daysI wonder what am I doing? Well?
A life of a ball rider,Man, you put in some work
twenty seven years of that. Hatsoff to you. What is in a

(13:48):
big picture and in your own words, just painting us a picture of what
the Mariners are getting, both ina ballplayer and a clubhouse guy in Randy
a Rose Arena. Yeah, Imean, you're getting a huge person.
You're getting a very charismatic, charismaticplayer. You're getting a guy who loves
to engage with the fans. Infact, I'm actually pulling up toward the

(14:09):
Trumpicana field now and kind of curiousbecause what they're gonna do because every Friday
night they have Randy Land. Theyused to be one section last year and
they sold it so well. Nowit's two sections right behind left field and
people pay a little bit of apremium price. They all sit together.
They get a T shirt, adifferent T shirt each Friday home game.

(14:30):
They pass around like those big hitthings, you know, like you've seen
them around at different stadiums, andyou know, it's kind of like a
party, and if he hits ahome run, everybody gets a free beer.
So we're trying to figure out whatthey're going to do on short notice
tonight. But yeah, he youknow you've seen the arms crossed gest year.
He obviously was a huge personality alsoat the World Baseball Classic last year.

(14:52):
Playing for Mexico is kind of adoptedhome country. So all that aside,
you're gonna get a player who whenhe's on Can Carriot team is exciting
as brings energy. You know, the steal a home in the playoff game
a couple of years ago against Bostonthe twenty twenty, when he just broke
all the records kind of emerged outof kind of nowhere. Had been acquired

(15:15):
from the Cardinals before Covid shut theseason down, was missing when they resumed,
was missing when they resume play excuseme because he had Covid got called
up halfway through that abbreviated season, and then in the playoffs just went wild.
So a guy that has been inthe spotlight has done really well in
the postseason. This year is kindof a mystery. I mean, he

(15:37):
went to the All Star Game lastyear. We were in Seattle right before
the All Star break. When hegot where he made the team, then
he wasn't gonna be in. Hekind of invited to be in the home
run Derby. And you look athis numbers since then, and he's kind
of being held up as one ofthose examples of a guy who went to
the home run Derby and they kindof messed him up because his second half
was bad last year, his firsthalf was bad this year. There were

(15:58):
a lot of questions. There werestories written. John Romano, our columnists
wrote that maybe they need to sendthem to the miners and and let him
get out of the pressure and workit's work it out. Whatever's wrong and
then come around in June first,he started looking like Randy again. And
and you know the numbers. Hecan parsh numbers however you want, obviously,
but look at his numbers from Ithink it's June first, or maybe
it's June eighth on. He's kindof been back to Randy. And he's

(16:21):
gonna end up with twenty homers andtwenty steels for the fourth year in a
row, which is a pretty remarkablefeat. And uh, he'll he'll you
do a lot of things. He'snot the greatest defender, but he can
play pretty good left field. Itdoesn't have a great arm, but you're
gonna get him for the bat,You're get him for the energy. He's
gonna bring the enthusiasm. I'm guessingthey'll I know, you guys have a
lot of personalities on them. TheMariners have a lot of personalities on their

(16:42):
team. But that arms crossed gesturewill become a thing in the Seattle area
within about a week of him playingfor the Mariners, I'll predict. This
is the voice of Mark tom andTamith Bay Times, beat writer for the
Tampa Bay Rays, talking to usabout what the Mariners are getting in all
Star Outfit or Randy Rose Rain andtraded last night to Seattle. It sounds
like another personality. This seems asif this could be a really good fit

(17:03):
for Julio Rodriguez to learn from someoneelse that has come from an environment that
was pretty good as well. Wouldyou say that's pretty much the case here?
Yeah, And I don't want tolike oversell, like Randy's not like
one of those guys that like isthe mentor in the clubhouse. You know,
it's not that kind of sit Thisisn't like getting Elson Cruz. You're

(17:25):
not getting that kind of guy.But you're getting a guy that you know,
he'll he's loud in the clubhouse,he's you know, in a positive
way. He's engaging. You seethe Little Dancer teams and him and Jose
Siri have quite an elaborate or hadquite an elaborate post home run routine when
one hited, the other one waswaiting for him, and a lot of
choreography goes on between those guys.So yeah, I would. I mean,

(17:48):
look, I would assume, youknow, just for Julio to have
another veteran player, another Spanish speakingveteran player, a guy who's got some
been there, done that. Who'sbeen in the spotlight, Not that he's
played in the bigger market, buthe's played in a lot of bigger games.
Haven't been in the playoffs, youknow, the Rays have been in
the playoffs. He kind of herein twenty twenty. They've been in the
playoff every year he's been here. He's never not been in the playoffs as

(18:08):
a major league player since he cameover here from Saint Louis. So he'll
definitely bring some of that. Andobviously if the Mariners, you know,
get playing down the stretch there orget into the postseason, he'll be able
to, you know, share thatexperience with some of the guys who have
had maybe just limited postseason experience.Mark you alluded to it, the fact
that his numbers just went off acliff after the All Star break last year,

(18:30):
and then he's first two months thisyear, and then since then he's
been what now is the Mariner's besthitter since Memorial Day. But was the
drop off the reason he became availablein the raised minds or he was he
looking at a contract down the roadthe Rays didn't want. What do you
think made him expendable? I thinkprobably a little bit of everything. I
mean, you know, this isa franchise. It's always looking at the
budget, always looking at the bottomline. He made eight million this year.

(18:53):
He's a Super two. It's onlyhis second year of arbitration, so
he's got two more So in ain a weird way, Greg like his
struggles this season made him probably moreaffordable for the Rays to keep because his
salary be arbitration, which is youknow, pretty much statistic base. Maybe
it only jumps from eight to tenfor next year because he didn't have a

(19:15):
great year as opposed to jump intofourteen or something. So you know,
there's a weird kind of impact onhow you look at that. But I
don't think he's going to sign along term contract. He's already twenty nine.
That's the other thing with time methe free agent, he'll be thirty
one. He's a Scott Boris client. So there's a lot of reasons to
think he wasn't going to sign oneof the typical raised kind of deals where
they get a guy for you know, three or four years undervalue, but

(19:37):
they give him enough money that it'sworth his while to do it. The
drop off certainly is part of it. They've got, you know, some
young players, not necessarily though aleft fielder that they want to give some
opportunity to. So I'll be curiousto see. We're gonna talk to Kevin
Cash here in an hour or soand get a feel for what they're gonna
do, or maybe they're gonna, you know, we think they're gonna make
some more moves here by Tuesday. Also, so maybe they trade Zach Epplin

(20:00):
and get an outfield or back orsomething like that. But as the fans
right now, they don't really havea replacement for Randy. So I think
it's all of those things. Ithink the money's part of it, the
fact that they want to see whatsome of these younger kids can do while
not totally punting on this season, and the fact that he has struggled.
You know, he got hot ata good time to maybe enhance his trade
market a bad time. The fansare not happy with this trade. They

(20:22):
don't you know, they obviously don'tknow the prospects that they're the Raids are
getting from the Maritives. They justsee two minor leaguers that aren't top ten
prospects on you know, those coupleof lists that you know at one point
thirty last night when I was sittingin Toronto and got woken up to say
this is happening, and quickly googledand Okay, here's where he is and
here's where those guys are in theBaseball America at MLB dot com prospect list.

(20:42):
But yeah, so they don't knowwho they're getting back. They know
they're losing a guy that they thefans really like. So it has not
got overwell initial reaction here either. Before I let you go, do put
you on the spot. Do youhave a fun memory or something that you
could share with Seattle? That's yourfavorite Randy Rose arena? Why a likable
moment? There's a couple of funnythings. He only does interviews with an

(21:04):
interpreter, so that sometimes lends itselfto some you know, like you can
tell there's some like by play goingon before they interpret the actual answer.
One day he told us the onlypictures he knew this was earlier in his
Ray's career. The only pictures heknew were the raised pictures and the Cuban
pictures. He in Garrett Cole. That was because we asked him, hey,
you're facing this guy tomorrow. Whatdo you know about him? And

(21:26):
he said, I only know ourpictures, the other Cuban pictures and Garrett
Cole. It was just kind offunny that that popped out. But probably
the best memory of Randy A RoseArena, and it's easy to find this
video clip is that wild Game fourin the twenty twenty World Series that Brett
Phillips had the crazy hit. TheDodgers made the error, the Rays win.
A Rose a Raina stumbled going aroundthird, he had to get back

(21:48):
up. He started back, thenhe scored. Getting to my point is
there's a video and still pictures. He's lying on the ground. He just
scored headfirst slide. He's padding homeplay with the biggest smile you'll ever see
on a baseball field. That's apretty good memory of Randy Rose Arena that
I think a lot of people willhave. It's certainly down here the Tampa
Bay version of different scoring at homeand Elane Thompson to the EP, my

(22:12):
former colleague getting a picture of himat the bottom of the dog pile after
beating the Yankees in the ninety mark, I know you're a busy, busy
man. Thank you for taking timeout, enjoy the two prospects. You
may never see from Seattle get toTampa. Maybe you will. But thanks
for the inside on Randy Rose. It's good to talk to you, right

(22:32):
and and we'll see who the playerto be named is. Yeah, that's
right. Good Thanks Mark, MarkTompkins, all right, bye bye,
thank you, bye bye. MarkTomkins busy man flying from Toronto to the
Bay Tampa Bay area for the Rays. He awakened last night at one thirty
in the morning to be told thatthe Randy Roseraina, a very popular figure
in Florida, has been traded tothe Seattle Mariners, and he says he's

(22:56):
a huge personality. They had RandyLand Night on Friday. It's at Tropicana
Field and fat heads in the standsand free beer if you hit a home
run and t shirts of them andit sounds fun. This sounds as if
this is gonna bring some energy, some positive energy. With everything going on
right now, the mayors could useanother ball of light that could potentially help
this offense out. Obviously there's stillthe mayors are looking to add more.

(23:18):
But I think this is a strongstart between the arms cross thing at Ros
Arena and the no fly zone forJulio Rodriguez gonna look like an airport tarmact
in the out. They just gottawin some games here exactly. The marriage
could use some more of that comingup. Your reactions four nine four five
one on the toplemore dude, textline your reaction to what you just heard

(23:41):
about what the Mariners are getting inRandy or Rose Arena. We'll talk a
little more about what I've seen thefirst two days of Seahawks training camp,
and then at eleven o'clock, JoryEpstein of the Yahoo Sports senior NFL writer,
she's at Chicago Bears camp talking tous about what she saw the Packers
camp and the Bears camp. Allthat's coming up next. From the Virginia
Mason Athletics Center on ninety three pointthree KJRFM, Welcome back, Greg Bubble,

(24:14):
the News Tribute and Christopher Kidd joiningyou again from the Virginia Mason Athletics
Center in Seahawks training camp. Daythree an absolutely idyllic day, I'd be
it's pretty nice if you happen tonot be working on Friday, which seems
to be like reforce of the population. Come on out here to the Virginia
Mason Athletics Center. You got togo to Rent and Landing first. Actually,
probably have to go to the teamwebsite register for your shuttle ride for

(24:38):
fifteen dollars from Rent and Landing todrive up here. But man, it
is such a nice day here todayfor the third practice of Seahawks training camp.
They'll be in helmets and shorts againtoday. If you miss last segment,
we talked with Mark Tompkin. Heis the longtime raised beat writer for
the Tampa Bay Times. What's aSaint Petersburg Times. When I was an

(24:59):
A's beat writer and he and Ihung out in Saint Petersburg together twenty years
ago. He's been on to betwenty seven years. He said, fans
are not happy in Tampa Bay aboutthe Rays trading in Randya Rose Arena,
the twenty twenty three All Star who'sslumped the first two months of this season
but has since rebounded. We talkedabout all the numbers and how he instantly

(25:19):
becomes the best hitter by far, slugging on bass doubles hits average. It's
not even close. How much heis above what everybody else in the Maritors
have been doing up to this pointthis season, and we talked about the
fact that the Mariners did not losetop prospects for him, two prospects that
aren't even in the top ten oftheir own organization, let alone the top

(25:41):
one hundred of Baseball. And sothe Mariners are still loaded enough to if
they wanted to go out in pryof Lad Guerrero or somebody Cody Bellinger from
the Cubs, if they really wantedto get serious about adding another bat,
they still have ammunition to do thatif the market will allow him to.
But they're still in position make anothermove, which we all think they need.

(26:02):
That the Rosraina is not gonna beenough. We talked about if you
get one bat, they'll just pitcharound him and take their chances with the
other eight who are hitting two eighteenthis season. Four more days for the
Mariners before the Major League trading deadline, and they're still in position to do
another one after a ros Arena arrivesthis afternoon in Chicago for the Mariners opener

(26:22):
of the three game series against theWhite Sox four nine, four five one
on a tell them we do texton your reaction to what Mark Tompkins said
about the huge personality that the Marinersare getting in a Rose Arena, the
arms cross thing he does after bigplays in the outfield and at the plate,
stealing of home and playoff games. The free beer that fans get on
Friday nights in Randy Land in TropicanaField if he hit a home run,

(26:47):
and T shirts they give away somethinglike the Jay Rod No Fly Zone ull
be on right center field the TMobile Park. Sounds like the Mariners' marketing
staff is gonna have a fun timewith Randy or Rose Arena, and if
it can translate in the wins, great Mariners could use a ton more of
that. But your reaction to tellthem we do text line four nine four
five one, it's game time,It's Tully time. At eleven thirty,

(27:08):
we'll read back your text and theyalready have included some reactions to what you
know about Randy rose Rain in thetrade. Hope renewed is one of the
texts I wrote and on Twitter atg belc Out on my Twitter account x
account, there are people saying, what are the chances the Mariners would give
free beer for Randy set it up? And somebody else tweeted an old clip

(27:36):
of the President Bill Clinton putting hishands in the form of an O and
saying zero. That's about the chancesof that. What is more likely the
Mariners reaching the World Series are givingaway free beer for free beer based on
what we've seen. Uh, Ithink everyone right now in the text line
would agree free beer go ahead andtext it in what's more likely World Series
are a free beer go ahead? It's really simple. You say free beer,

(28:00):
you say world Series. That's right, tell them gay taits totally tadd
I'm willing to bet it'll be abunch of free beer, free beer,
free beer, free beer. Oneyeah, world Series, but yeah,
we'll see. This can help them, though, Chris, I mean it's
one bat and we said one betwon't fix them, but well, yeah,
can't help them the need they needhelp. So this is a start.

(28:23):
What will they do before the deadline? There are four days they can
still go out and get some moreassistance. We will see what this team
looks like after the deadline. Ithink I'm surprised with the market as stagn
as it is, I'm surprised aslittle as they apparently gave up two prospects
ranked twelve and twenty second according tothe MLB pipeline within the Mariners own organization.

(28:48):
Neither of them are in top onehundred prospects in Baseball, which the
Mariners have those two I'm thinking HarryFord, but no, and so they
could still they still have the abilityto make those trades if they wanted to
part with higher prospects than they gotfor a Rose Rain. It also speaks
to the fact that the Rays didn'twant to pay him, and Mark Tompkins
said that that the money was aconsideration a Super two arbitration guy whose numbers.

(29:15):
If for his sake, if hegets hot and stays as hot as
he's been since Memorial Day here inSeattle, that's a big if. But
if he is, he's going toget paid for it. He's got a
financial incentive to hit the ball andplay well out here to where he is
in his kind of the team stillhas him under club control for two more

(29:36):
years. That has to be extremelyattractive as part of the reason for this
trade for Jerry Depoto and Justin Hollander. But anyway, it's pretty indicative that
tweet f that was indicative saying hope, and it was on the text line
as well that fans have hope againthat the Manners aren't just going to sit
back and let this season disintegrate, and they are making a move, at
least one move now at Rosarina totry to fix this lineup. We'll see,

(30:00):
I mean Rodriguez, Holy Rodriguez isgoing to be on the disabled list
for at least two weeks. JPCrawford, who wasn't hitting much before he
got hurt for the second time thisseason, is going to be out four
to six weeks with the broken hand. It's not like they don't still have
holes, including at first base nowthat they've designated for assignment Ty Frantz,
who wasn't hitting all that well either. Mitch Garver has not worked as a

(30:22):
part time almost full time DH hittingone to seventy or whatever he is now.
They still have holes, and theystill have bats. They can acquire
to plug some of those holes, and they have four days to do it.
But it does give them hope andthere at least is some evidence that
the Mariners aren't just going to sitback and do nothing. Coming up next,

(30:42):
we'll do headlines the top of thehour review what's happened at Seahawk training
camp the first two days and thenwe'll go to Chicago Bears training camp.
Jory Epstein a senior writer for theNFL for Yahoo Sports. He's been in
Green Bay at the Packers camp thisweek and the Jordan Love situation. She
watched Caleb Williams throwing balls to Romadoonsday today and yesterday at Bear's camp.
