Speaker 1 (00:20):
Welcome back, Greg Bella the News to Bean and Christopher
Kidd waiting for the second hour here on ninety three
point three kJ R f and m. My daughter just
called from She always facetimes. What is it about twenty
one year olds that have to be FaceTime all the time?
Ask her? Listen here, baby, go why are you always
face timing? If you just call me? Learn her Coastguard
I called an oil change outfit or blue we had
(00:41):
the battle dress uniforms what we called it. But yeah,
it's done for her class day. We'll see her tomorrow night.
Leading into the Seahawks at Patriots in Foxboro, Massachusetts, about
forty five minutes away from where my daughter goes to
school at the Coast Guard Academy at New London, Connecticut.
So flying into Boston and driving down there tomorrow Seahawks
(01:02):
and Patriots seven excuse me, ten am, not seven am
ten am Seattle time on Channel thirteen Sunday. Of course,
the Apple Cup is on Saturday at Lumenfield twelve thirty
start eight to thirty pregame show here on ninety three
point three KJR of Fame with Dave Softy Maler and
the Husky Hawks crew up next after headlines, we're going
(01:26):
to talk to Greg Woods at the Spokesman Review. The
news of the day is Washington State and Oregon State
gaining four new members for a reconstituted PAC twelve. We'll
talk about that in a minute after headline is brought
to you by Frost brewd course Light Choos. Chill I
mentioned that PAC twelve is now the PAC six in
counting Washington State and Oregon State, and the PAC twelve
announced four teams are going to join him in a
(01:47):
new PAC twelve conference for the start of the twenty
twenty school years. San Diego State, Colorado State, Boise State,
Fresno State are joining in athletics with Washington State and
Oregon State. They need two more schools to join for
the NC recognized as a viable conference and for the
Coogs and Beams to each game twenty million dollars from
the rest of the pectoral schools that deserted him in
the past year. We're gonna talk to Greg Woods in
(02:09):
a minute on that. Lead running back Kenneth Walker did
not practice for the Seahawks yesterday and needed its starting
right tackle. Excuse me, George pant or Key outside linebacker
and Chen and Wosu. We already knew when Wosa is
not going to play Sunday with that sprain knee he
got in the preseason finale. Walker in fant very iffy
to play. Walker has an oblique injury. He had an
oblique injury in last November seven plays into a game
(02:31):
against the Rams. He missed the rest of that game
plus two more after that. Zach Sharbonay got its first
two NFL starts as a rookie because of that, and
Zack Charmony is in line to start Sunday in New
England as you're running back one for Seattle. The Mariners
beat San Diego five to last night. Started Brian Wu
perfect through the first six innings until he allowed a
solo home run leading off to seven to Fernando Tatis.
(02:53):
Mariners are now three and a half be onto Trash
Cans because Houston lost in the Al West. But there's
only sixteen games left. Houston's lost three straight. Remember, the
Mariners play at Houston in a three game series. It
starts in eleven days. The goal now for Seattle to
be within three or fewer games of the Trash Games
before that series begins. Monday, September the twenty third in Houston. Tonight,
a four game series against Texas begins at the Yard
(03:15):
in Soto. Bryce Miller starts for the Mariners six forty
pm first pitch. Kumar Rocker, the third pick in the
twenty twenty two draft, makes his major league debut to night,
starting pitching for Texas. Shoe Otani hit his forty seventh
home run last night for the Dodgers against the Cubs.
He has forty eight stolen bases sixteen games left for
Otani to become the first player in major league history
(03:36):
with fifty home runs and fifty stolen bases in a
single season. Just absolutely amazing, and he hasn't even pitched
this year. The Storm beat the Sparks in Los Angeles
ninety eighty two last night. The Storm remained in the
fifth of eight season the WNBA Playoffs, one game behind
the Las Vegas Aces for fourth, So unless they tank
here of late, they're going to finish either fifth or
fourth in the seedings. That means the Storm will play
(03:57):
Las Vegas either way in the first round of the
WNBA Playoffs, and the krack And have started a rookie
camp ahead of young Players Tournament in Los Angeles this weekend.
Next week, the veterans are due at the team facility
in Northgate, Dellean. Forness whose show was at the King
County Ice Flex yesterday, I said veterans were already on
the ice there yesterday. Again. The big news of the
day Washington State and Oregon State gaining four more schools
(04:17):
and a reconstituted PAC twelve that will begin play in
August of twenty twenty six for the twenty six twenty
seven school year. Greg Woods, frequent guest of the show,
The Spokesman review beat writer for Washington State Athletics, joins
us on the Beacon Plumbing hotline from Spokane. Greg, thanks
a lot for joining us on short notice and what
was probably a very busy morning and late night for you.
Speaker 2 (04:40):
Yeah, of course, happy to do it.
Speaker 3 (04:42):
I was watching like a Netflix documentary when It's Broke,
and I was like, well, well, got to put that on, podd, Yeah,
hit the pause.
Speaker 1 (04:49):
What were you watching?
Speaker 3 (04:51):
It was this fourth part documentary called The Octopus Murderers.
It's like crazy like government intelligence, conspiracy, TI deal and
people are getting killed next and the ride. So it
was interesting, but I had, yeah, put that on also
a little bit.
Speaker 4 (05:05):
Well, don't blow up too much. I don't want you
disappearing because you wrote a great story. I'll do that, okay, Greg.
Speaker 1 (05:14):
Big picture here, this seems from somebody who's not inside
Washington State Athletics or even covering it. This seems to
be a good day for Kuga Athletics. What's your take
on all this and what it truly means down the road.
Speaker 3 (05:27):
Yeah, I think it's good. I'm sorry for w in
Oregon State. I mean, obviously everybody involved with the Koos
and you know beaversuit of a mugged, you know, for
a Big twelve invitation ATC invitation, but both of those
seemed like pipe dreams I think. I mean a CEC,
I mean they're looking at a TAKEI with Florida stay
and you know, climbs in trying to leave. And then
(05:49):
the Big Twelve. I mean that was it seemed a
little bit you know.
Speaker 2 (05:53):
More likely.
Speaker 3 (05:53):
But I mean they paused their discussions with Yukon last
week and I don't think they were really looking at
anybody else until twenty thirty or so.
Speaker 2 (06:01):
So that was obviously like.
Speaker 3 (06:03):
You know, the big time goal with these guys, but
short of that you know, it.
Speaker 5 (06:08):
Is what it is.
Speaker 3 (06:09):
I think, I think this is the best case scenario almost.
I mean, you add you know, four of the uh,
you know, biggest media markets in the Mountain West, you
you obviously have a little bit more of the leadway
in terms of the TV deal, which I mean they
I mean, and those teams are making you know, four million,
you know, five million dollars or so with their current
(06:30):
TV deal, and if they just sorted the Mountain the West,
that right, I mean, that's what they're looking at, which
I mean, that's like a fraction of the you know,
twenty to thirty million dollars or so they're.
Speaker 2 (06:38):
Getting the previous TV deal.
Speaker 3 (06:41):
So I mean, they didn't want to do that, and
I think you know, obviously considered this is not that
bad of deal for them for sure.
Speaker 1 (06:48):
So the question now becomes, obviously, who is going to
be the other two to make an eight eight team
league that the NCAA will recognize as a viable conference,
so then they can be a player in the College
Football Playoff and they can get league viiable status to
get in the NCAA Tournament and automatic qualifiers all of that.
In television contracts, there's been rumors already. John Wilner, I
(07:08):
read from the Bay Area and the hotline talking about
Memphis or Tulane or Texas San Antonio if they want
to get into the Texas market. But about CAYL Stanford,
I mean you mentioned the ACC. If that blows up,
if Florida State and Clemson succeed in their lawsuits, everyone
could splinter in the ACC and then Callen Stanford could
(07:29):
be looking for a home again. Or would you see
cal A lot of people think Callen Stanford academic side
presidents would say, now we're not going to join a
bunch of state schools.
Speaker 3 (07:39):
Yeah, I mean those two I think for this, you know,
reability PAC twelve, those two would be, uh, you know,
the best targets I think they're making. Most said obviously
you know former probably twelve members. Yeah, I think I
think that.
Speaker 2 (07:55):
I mean they, I mean they would have loved that.
Speaker 3 (07:56):
I mean they're obviously under you know, with the AEC
until two thirty six, I say, but yeah, of course,
if that blows up, then they'll get for new homes.
Speaker 1 (08:07):
Do those matter anymore?
Speaker 3 (08:09):
Somebody I'm saying, I'm staying like it matters, but.
Speaker 2 (08:14):
Never matters anymore. Geography, But yeah, I think those.
Speaker 3 (08:19):
That make you know, the best targets I and I don't.
I mean, like those two obviously were the last two,
uh Tax twelve teams to get poached, So I'm not
sure like how much.
Speaker 2 (08:30):
Like media value they hold like in the eyes of
like the other you know, powerful conferences.
Speaker 3 (08:36):
I'm sure somebody might you know, want to invite them,
but I don't think they were like, you know, high
on the pecking order of Tax twelve teams. The coach obviously,
So I mean they might you know, think that this
new PAC twelve is like, you know, beneath them academically,
But I'm also not convinced that they're you know, that
they hold you know, a crazy amount of value of.
Speaker 4 (08:54):
The eyes of you know, the powers that be, Greg,
Did you anticipate this happening so soon? Are you surprised
by this?
Speaker 3 (09:04):
I'm a little surprised, Yeah, but just how quickly it happened.
I mean, because they you know, might be talked about it.
They have to have a new conference by two and
twenty six, which is two years down the road, So
I'm a little surprised that they got it done, you know,
to or not got it done, but got the progress
going two years in advance. But I think I think
(09:26):
they're good for it. I mean I think that they
I mean, I don't think they wanted to keep keep
kicking the canon down the road too long. And uh
and it gives them time too to find, you know,
two more teams to add I you know, these things
take time to you know, for them to come together.
And I think I want to give them, you know,
time to you like I said, to find two more teams,
(09:46):
time to uh nego street, more TV deal, time to
do all those kinds of things.
Speaker 2 (09:50):
And so yeah, I was.
Speaker 3 (09:51):
Little surprised by it, but I think I think it's
a smart move on their part.
Speaker 2 (09:55):
And uh yeah, it gives them time to kids all
kind of situated.
Speaker 4 (09:58):
It's weird to say this, but but boy, the Apple
Cup is this weekend. So Greg, how is the how
how are you feeling about the new Apple Cup?
Speaker 1 (10:08):
And does it?
Speaker 4 (10:08):
I know it feels different, but how has it been
on campus? I guess over there in Spokane and at
WSU in regards to how things are going to be
going moving forward considering WSU and you dub parted ways
out of the PAC twelve.
Speaker 3 (10:22):
Yeah, well let me be I'm actually in Poland. You
actually say a Spokane I live in.
Speaker 1 (10:30):
After I said it, Yeah, after I said it, I
realized I think you're in Poland. Thank you.
Speaker 3 (10:34):
Yeah. Yeah, no, But anyway, yeah, I mean like personally,
I mean selfa Sally, it doesn't really feel the same
just you know, obviously it's non conference deal, you know,
quote unquote neutral side game, won't really matter as much,
you know, conference wise, or as much as conference wise.
Speaker 2 (10:51):
But I think people are still pretty excited about it.
Speaker 3 (10:53):
I mean, it's still the Apple Cup, you know. I
think that a lot of as far as the team
is concerned, I think a lot of the way we
see it, like you know, it's a non conference game,
you know, neutral side whatever at that Tehawks stadium, I
think a lot of that doesn't really like register with
the team and coaches the same way that we talked
about it. Like to them, it's like, you know, we're
playing your dub you know what I mean, Like we're
(11:15):
playing the same team that we've played for hundreds of years.
And so I think in that way, it's not really
I feel like, not much as shame because you know,
it's not like WSU has a bunch of guys on
the team that were you know g fives. I mean
the guys on the team for both teams are you
know Power five players like they were you know, recruited
to play for a factor of school. So I think
(11:36):
in those ways, it's it's the same thing. It might
not feel the same way just because of the setting
up the game, but I think as far as the
rosters and team and coaches are concerned, I mean a
lot of it is the same. And I mean there's
still a trophy to be you know, awards to the winner.
There's still you know, bragging you rights and all those
kinds of things, and so I think like for the
people that actually matter, as far as the team that coaches,
(11:59):
I think basically yet the same, and then that's what
makes different.
Speaker 1 (12:03):
Greg Woods at the Spokesman Review, joining us from Pullman,
Washington State beat writer, talking about Husky's Koob's the PAC
twelve becoming the Pac six today and more here on
the Beacon Plumbing Hotline. Greg, those players on the roster,
if I'm not mistaken, there are more players from Washington
State's roster from last season than Washington's. With the mass
exodus that happened with the Husky's coaching change, and that
(12:23):
coach Jake Dickerd and his stack did a good job
of retaining many of those Washington State Cougar from last year.
Those players lived through Washington, Oregon, UCLA, USC Cole Stanford, Colorado, Arizona.
Everyone deserting them? Is that to me? It seems the
intangibles of this week are in Washington States favors and
that the players remember getting left behind by Washington. Is
(12:47):
that a factor at all? Is anyone talking about that
at Washington State's program?
Speaker 3 (12:52):
If they are talking about it, they haven't made a
public to us. I think.
Speaker 2 (12:58):
I actually asked a question to Jake Diggerd.
Speaker 3 (13:00):
Along those same wives on Monday, and he's and what
he said was pretty revealing. He was like, well, you
know that was you know, over a year in the past,
and you've already played these guys since that happened. So
I think for for the Coupes, it's like, you know,
that might be on their minds a little bit, but
you know, like I said, it's it's been over a year.
They've played them already one time since you know, the
conference fall apart, So I think like if they are
(13:22):
feeling a little missed there if that is on the mind,
it's just not nearly as much as last year, just
because you know, it's it's it's spent some time and
uh and yeah, I just I just think like the
wound is not really as fresh anymore as it was,
you know when they played last year. So I think
to them it's just like it's not just another game,
(13:44):
Like that's not the way they see it. But it's
also not like, you know, we we really got to
get up to you know, just to show these guys
what's up because they you know, helped kill the conference.
That was more of the case last year. So I
think not be a little bit you know of that,
but womb is not nearly express And I think to
them it's it's more about just you know, playing the
(14:04):
Apple Cup and you know, not too much.
Speaker 2 (14:06):
About like, hey, these guys you know, really really did
a send.
Speaker 1 (14:10):
Great Also on the tell them We're new text line
on our show here, Adams asked, the most interesting piece
to him is what the next phase is going to
bring to perhaps ten and twelve teams. More Mountain West
Conference team might come in this new league, like un
l V San Jose, big market teams from the East
like Memphis or Rice out of Houston. His question is,
and I'll question oppose it to you. Does this new
(14:31):
conference do you think they prioritize basketball and non football schools?
Maybe go after Gonzaga Santa Clara and make it a
basketball conference or have them as non basketball, non football
playing members. Seattle, you and Gonzaga.
Speaker 3 (14:46):
Perhaps, Yeah, I think that Zaga would make a lot
of sense. I mean, obviously, you know, regionally, they're right there,
They're i mean a blue blood in basketball.
Speaker 2 (14:55):
I think that would make a lot of sense too.
Speaker 3 (14:58):
Yeah, because right now they're I'm putting all their chips
in the football or a bit, which makes a lot.
Speaker 1 (15:04):
Of sense, right.
Speaker 2 (15:06):
But I but I think you do need to I mean,
w A.
Speaker 3 (15:10):
Hue just having a lot of basketball season, but that
was their first, you know, a tournament appearance in sixteen years,
and organ State didn't have much of a basketball season
and didn't have that great of basketbeaton either.
Speaker 1 (15:20):
So I just went to a Final four a couple
of years ago. So I mean, yeah your point, Yeah, yeah, So.
Speaker 3 (15:26):
I do think they need to think about the basketball
thing as well, and with the teams they just added.
I mean they're already kind of off to a hot
start in that way too. I mean San Diego State
going to the you know, championship game a couple of
years ago. Uh, the States already you know, their their
solid basketball wise, So I think like they're already I mean,
(15:46):
I don't think it's like an asthot because they're already
kind of like you know, the teams they've added already
you know, solid in those ways, and so I think
they don't have to like I mean, they could post
a dagga, they could do something like that, but it's
not like coming out of from my gay you know, really,
you know, we really got to make get some ground
basketball wise. I think I think they're already kind of
get to progress there.
Speaker 1 (16:07):
I could see them being a ten team conference including Seattle, you,
and Goetzaga for basketball non football playing, and then go
eight for football. I could see that happening. Greg, I'll
play on the spot. Nobody in Pullman to hear, so
you don't don't care what you have to say to responses.
What's your prediction for the Apple Cup?
Speaker 6 (16:22):
Ah?
Speaker 3 (16:23):
Man, Well, I have to write this tomorrow so people
will see this, you know, when they.
Speaker 1 (16:27):
See it, Well, don't scoop yourself. Then just tell me
what you expect. You don't have to get a game
prediction because I'm in the newspaper business. I know not
to scoop myself on the air. But what are you expecting?
Two teams undefeated, Washington struggled early in games. Washington State
has been prolific on offense, and I'd have to say
their defense has been above expectations from what I've seen
so far. What are you expecting type of game, high scoring,
(16:50):
typical rivalry. What are you expect any I won't put
you on the spot for a pick, so you don't
scoop yourself. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (16:56):
Well, I think the interesting part is it's going to
be the way that you found attacks the coops offense.
I mean they've I mean w T has had. I
mean their first game was they just do it all
over the yard against the back Potland State team. Way two,
they had like you know, threehudre and one rushing yards
on the curb, rushing yards against Texas Tech quarterback. Yeah, exactly,
(17:17):
But I don't think they'll be able to do that,
you know, the same thing that the Husky's defense.
Speaker 2 (17:22):
I mean they're uh.
Speaker 3 (17:24):
I mean they've allowed what like a total of like
twelve points over the last two games. So I think
that they the university part is that you dob is
not going to give ws this uh rustering and drop
eight look, which is what they punished Texas Tech for doing.
What they are going to do is they're gonna blit
a lot. They're gonna really put the pressure on John
the Tier, the two quarterbacks to make some plays. And
(17:45):
I mean he completed all of like nine packs last week,
and so I think it will not be easy for
Dome Tier to dice up UWA defense to what he
did you know, Portland State A and Texas Tech on
the ground. So I think a lot of it will
come down to just like how he responds to that
defense and if the WSO line can hold it up
against the ub front seven, which they DA could have
(18:09):
spoken super highly of. So I think that'll, you know,
make the biggest different down. I know the defense has
been awesome lately, but there's just a lot of new
pieces on the WSU offense, you know, and you know,
not believe it, which is that quarterback. So I think
that'll be the big swinging point in this game, and yeah,
(18:29):
here has a big time in front of them for sure.
Speaker 1 (18:32):
Greg Wood to the spokes in Review, joining us some pullman.
Thanks a lot, Sarah, and thank you busy man doing
a ton of things and writing tons of stories and
there's way more to be written about this. Thanks a lot.
To enjoy the week, enjoy the trip back here to
the west.
Speaker 2 (18:44):
All right, well do it, thank you guys.
Speaker 1 (18:45):
That's Greg Woods. He'll be in Lumenfield on Saturday for
the Washington State Washington Earliest Apple Cup at Loomanfield. And
talking about the PAC twelve adding four new members to
Washington State and Oregon State to now be a PAC
six pending two more Zach and Seattle. You make sense
as a basketball that all other sports, yep, I do
(19:06):
think that's a viable option here. And then they'd have
to get two more football playing members for the NCAA
to recognize them as a conference. And hey, I see
the tell them we're do text line four nine four
five one. I see a Husky fan saying, yeah, here's
Washington State gleefully gloating over taking Mountain West and blowing
it up. It's yeah, it's exactly what they have to do.
(19:27):
It's what Washington did, and Oregon did, and USC did,
and us UCLA did, and Colorado and Arizona felt they
had to do. It is the sick world of college
athletics right now that they just blow up contracts, agreements,
long standing traditions in the name of money, in the
name of metea rites. I get it, But what's Washington
(19:47):
State to do? Just Dina Vine. They got to go
get something, They got to go find some viable league,
and it's poaching from the Mountain West Conference to do it.
We come back, we'll read back your text them and
tell them. We'll do text line five one, and I'll
have your Factor fiction pick for today, your chance from
our show to win one thousand dollars from the Emerald
Queen Casino, the betting Capital, Little Northwest. All of that's
(20:09):
coming up next on ninety three point three kjr FM. Hi,
welcome back Greg Bell to the News Tribune and Christopher
Kay with you. You know what the music means on
ninety three point three KJRFM. At this time it's telemore
de text line four nine four five one. Greg, I
got a question for you. Did you hear about Shannon
(20:30):
Sharp yesterday? No, Okay, we we'll move along and I'll
wrap with you off of the air. Let's see this.
Speaker 4 (20:38):
Husky season ticket holder says, good job, WSU. You have
taken circumstances you didn't even ask for and reacted perfectly,
very very smart handling of this and the money a lot.
Speaker 1 (20:48):
Great move.
Speaker 4 (20:49):
Okay, Now that is the one that is one Husky
fan out of one hundred that are like, I don't care,
I salute.
Speaker 1 (20:55):
You two five to three. That's good, that's well good,
that's fair. Let's see.
Speaker 4 (21:01):
From Keith Miller, is it true that if Softie ever
had a child it was a boy, he would have
to name it Owen Owen twelve maler Go Kooks two
thousand and eight, never forget. That is great, that is
great from the eight oh one you guys, first of all,
who was you guys?
Speaker 1 (21:20):
All right?
Speaker 4 (21:21):
I don't work for w issue, just a fan, go koops.
Screwed the Mountain West. Sounds very hypocritical, as usual. Help
Greg pointed that out. Greg, I'll let you take it
from there.
Speaker 1 (21:29):
Yeah, it's it is hypocritical. It's also the way to survive.
This is what Washington State is reacting to. You can't
just expect them to lay back and say, oh, we didn't.
We got left out of the PAC twelve, so now
we can't do anything. We're not going to go make
our own conference. You can't do that, and you're irrelevant.
And then you have no money, no income, no revenue,
no television deal, no minia rates deals, no recruiting base, nothing,
(21:53):
and then you just what's your athletic do? But what
do you owe it to the student athletes? And not
to mention the donors who are funding your programs, you
owe it to them to give them the best opportunity possible.
Now this is a lemonade out of lemons situation. They're
giving them the best of situation possible. They can't sit
back and say, well, we can't go raid somebody else
(22:13):
because we got raided. This is the way that it's
become dog eat dog, everyone for themselves. It shouldn't be
this way, but it's the way it is. Those are
just facts. How would you like to be a parent
of a student athlete at Washington State? And they're athletic
direction So you know what, since we got raided in
the PAC twelve, we're not going to go raid the
Mountain West to go make a new PAC twelve, so
we won't have the best athletic depart we can, and
(22:34):
we won't have television contracts that can fund your daughter's scholarships. Now,
would you like to be a parent of a student
athlete there who recruited to go be a PAC twelve
Pac twelve athlete and now they're stuck with this and
then they get found out today. Oh now we got
sixteens and we could get to eighth. Hell yeah, you'd
be a parent signing up for that because your kid
didn't go to Washington State to get left behind by
(22:57):
the rest of the PAC twelve period. End of story.
Speaker 4 (23:00):
Hypocrisy, yes, but it's the way of the world from
the two five to three. Funny, I thought you guys
didn't want to talk about the Mariners anymore. I thought
we were done dot dot dot. Well, hey, still a
little bit of time. Yeah, we've talked about damn right,
we've talked about it, but it ain't it's not the
whole twenty minute segment.
Speaker 1 (23:19):
As they used to.
Speaker 4 (23:20):
That was like three minutes, not even like yeah we
have yeah, we understand what's that stake here? And when
they roll us back in, guess what we'll do. We'll
jump all over it. Four to five brings up a
good point, honestly, probably good for WSU and o ISSU.
They can find six crappy teams and dominate them. In
WSU or OSU will be guaranteed the playoffs. But I
don't think Boise State football is a crappy team. They
(23:40):
almost beat Oregon in Oupton Stadium the other night. And
I don't think San Diego State is a crappy team
in either football or basketball. They just went to a
Final four a couple of years ago.
Speaker 1 (23:48):
But yeah, give it. On the relative scale, there are
chances to win this new conference versus the old Pac twelve,
absolutely last one from the two five to three. Husky
fans should put a sock in it and stay all right.
Koogs and Beeves are only doing what they're doing because
of what Huskies, Oregon, USC, UCLA, and the rest of
the form packs twelve schools did to them. That's all
(24:10):
I gotta say. What's up? You know what time it
is to eleven thirty five? Time for your chance to
win one thousand dollars from the Emerald gree Casino. It's
factor fiction in We're set to go glad you're with us.
Speaker 7 (24:22):
It's your shot at our weekly thousand bucks and the
ten thousand dollars grand prize. It's Factor Fiction, brought to
you by the Emerald Queen Casino, the vetting capital of
the Northwest. Make the beautiful new EQUC Sports booky your
home all football season long. Fact Door Fiction is on
Sports Radio ninety three point three KJR FM.
Speaker 1 (24:47):
All right, you all know me well enough by now
that you know Army in the under right. Just done,
Army in the under guarantee. We just had a guy
who win one thousand dollars last year for the entire
station the contest because he agreed with me fact on
Army and Under last week. But Army doesn't play this week,
so now I got to go elsewhere. Hopefully Jeff Monkin,
the coach of the Black Knights, has them off Saturday.
(25:08):
Let them go off post somewhere for the only weekend
of the fall until December. So I'm going to the NFL.
The Indianapolis Colts are in lambeau Field on Sunday to
play the Packers in Green Bay. Just back from Brazil
and they're opening loss to the Eagles. Packers, of course
gonna be without Jordan Love in jured a quarterback, and
that's why they're two and a half point home underdogs
(25:29):
or unusual in the NFL, especially from a playoff team
just seven months ago, nine months ago, there are two
and a half point underdog to the oh to one Colts.
I think Matt lafour is gonna coach Malik Willis to
win this game outright. Well, let's look good in Tennessee
and those joint practices I was at for Seahawks and
Titans before they traded him to Green Bay at the
end of training camp. This is did you know? This
(25:52):
is Anthony Rishings only his second career NFL road start.
He only had one es year before he got hurt.
Second career pro start on the road for the Colts,
Anthony Richardson, and it's out a playoff team in lambeau Field.
Give me the points the Pack Green Bay plus two
and a half at home versus the Colts. If you
agree with me, fact face t at four, nine, four
(26:14):
or five one. Disagree fiction fic t ion to four nine,
four or five one. You have twelve minutes from right now.
Go for your chance to win one thousand dollars. Don't
write in anything else but factor fiction, not full of beans.
No disagree, no, no way, none of that fact or
fiction for your chance to win one thousand dollars Green
Bay plus two and a half a home underdog against
(26:36):
the Colts. Take the points and the Pack are gonna
win the game, outright.
Speaker 4 (26:40):
I'm scared, now, what well you saw what the Texans
did with Indianapolis.
Speaker 1 (26:47):
Twenty nine to twenty. That game was in the fourth quarter,
and then they scored a cosmic get touchdown at the end,
as you know all too well.
Speaker 4 (26:52):
Yes so, Greg, I'm nervous for you, man, I really am.
I did not put Anthony Rechid Richardson to play as
well as he did this team right there, I hear you.
Though I'm a little nervous. I'm gonna let the game
do a talking and have Greg sitting on.
Speaker 1 (27:06):
Richardson was nine of nineteen with an interception, but two
hundred and twelve yards and two touchdowns in that game.
Last week against Houston, they played from behind the entire game.
They led in the first quarter early, and then the
last three quarters they played from behind. And as I said,
twenty nine to twenty is cosmetic. They were down nine
with seven minutes left in the third fourth quarter.
Speaker 4 (27:27):
I don't know how many carries Jonathan Taylor had, but
I don't think he had a good week. I would
have sixteen for forty eight a touchdown. Yeah, I would
expect him to run better. But hey, Greg, this is
your pick Factor fiction.
Speaker 1 (27:39):
Baby. I hope you win, But boy, am I nervous
for you? Give me Malik Willis at home and his
first lambeau Field start over Anthony Richardson's second.
Speaker 4 (27:48):
NFL You say that Outllow. That sounds crazy, doesn't it. Yes,
but that's the fun part of our Factor fiction.
Speaker 1 (27:55):
Here we go, There we go. Fact four nine four
five one Green Bay plus two and a half at
home against the Colts. Fiction four nine four to five one.
Your next chance to win one thousand dollars will come. Well,
you still got nine minutes on this one. Then the
next one will be at two thirty five with Ian
for NEETs, three thirty five with Dave Softy Maller and
Dick Fain. I'm heading to Renton to go talk to
(28:16):
Gino Smith and in the locker room before practice, I
finness will join Christopher Kid next. Thanks for listening. On
ninety three point three KJRFM.
Speaker 4 (28:32):
Welcome back to the Greg Bill Show with Christopher Kidd
live on none of the point three KJRFM. We are
now joined by the legendary the Great Maple Actually ken
even let's let's try that again.
Speaker 1 (28:45):
Two one three, two one and action.
Speaker 4 (28:47):
We are now joined by the Mayor of Maple Valley,
the great, the one and only Ian Furness.
Speaker 1 (28:53):
What's up, Mayor?
Speaker 5 (28:53):
I don't get much better introductions than that, man, Thank you?
How are you?
Speaker 3 (28:56):
You know?
Speaker 1 (28:57):
The weather might be changing, but it's okay.
Speaker 8 (29:00):
Time of the year, buddy, it's the best time of
the year. And it's best time of the year.
Speaker 6 (29:03):
It's week two already, and that is it's and week
three in college football. That's crazy, which which goes by
way too fast, like college football goes by way too fast,
is messed up as college football may or may not
be right now, depending on who the eye of the
beholder there. It just goes by really fast, like really
really fast. And is this week I can't even think second,
(29:26):
Like we're two and a half weeks into September. Yeah,
it goes by fast.
Speaker 1 (29:29):
Man already, I know, no, I know, I know, so
all that's going on.
Speaker 5 (29:35):
So yeah, here we are, man, let's.
Speaker 1 (29:37):
Go how about that a new pack something.
Speaker 8 (29:41):
Yeah, there's there's a lot, man, There's so much to
unpack with that, and there's so when stuff happens, emotions
kick in, and then emotions are followed closely by or
tied next to stupidity.
Speaker 5 (29:57):
I'm going to read a text or a tweet. I
read tweet from him.
Speaker 8 (30:00):
Absolutely, this is from some guy named Dick Breen Hugh Beaumont. Okay,
oh boy, I think you Beaumont was the actor? Was
the actor for Leave It to Beaver?
Speaker 5 (30:10):
The dad?
Speaker 8 (30:11):
I'm not mistaken anyway. Why Die and the Kooks just
join the Mountain West Conference? What's the difference, especially after
a year of kicking, screaming and whining, then they'll kill
a conference. Then they kill a conference.
Speaker 5 (30:20):
Unbelievable. We didn't.
Speaker 8 (30:21):
There's eight teams left. They weren't a power five conference
in the first place. There's still not a power five conference.
Mount West can go on. The best schools in that
conference decided they wanted to go do something different. Just
as so different. It's so so different, and just like
I'm kind of in the minority with Wazoo fans. I know,
Wazu fans get mad when I say this. I don't
(30:44):
like the fact Washington left. I don't like the fact
that Oregon left, but I understand why they left. I
don't blame him for leaving. They they did what was
best for them. Were am McCoy and Scott Barnes and
the school or the two athletic directors were Wazoo in
Oregon State and then the presidents. Were they all supposed
to just sit around and wait and just take it
(31:05):
on the chin over and over again and then take
this like what would have been a really bad situation
by joining the Mountain West as two new members, or
they better off it's keeping the PAC twelve name. And
I know, my god, people again, let's go back to
the stupidity. I know it's not the PAC twelve that
you're used to. I get that, we all understand that, okay,
(31:27):
But were they better off doing that cutting a new
media rights deal, which if you have half a brain
you probably can figure out and connect the dots that
they're already probably well down the road on that, because
there's no way those four schools would have left at
the expense they're going to have to pay without some
sort of assurance that there's something going on. But we
have a level of stupidity in the world of sports
(31:48):
fandom and media that really is overriding and kind of
frustrating at times. It's why I usually just kind of
turn the old x dot com thing off most days.
But you know, it's I wouldn't say it's a great
day for Wazoo and Oregon State, but it's a good day.
It's a far better day than they've had in the
last fourteen months, far better day. So and it's and
(32:11):
it gives them something to look at. And one of
the big things we'll talk to Jake Dickart coming up
here at twelve today.
Speaker 1 (32:17):
Oh, there we go.
Speaker 8 (32:17):
Yeah, we've got Jake Dickart's going to join us live.
One of the things, Chris, that that has taken place.
And you know, I mean you, you and Mike and
everybody you talk to, your your era of Cougar fans.
I do the same with mine. Like they're all kind
of like in this holding pattern, like, oh, we want
money for nil, we want money for the Cougar Athletic fund.
Speaker 5 (32:36):
Well, where's it going and what's what's the end game?
Speaker 1 (32:38):
What's the benefit of it all?
Speaker 8 (32:39):
Yeah, to what be an independent to play you know whatever,
And I'll explain later, but I'm gonna tell you right now.
The Mountain West Conference, they and they're whoever was in
their leadership, the commissioner or some of the member institutions
besides the four, they dropped the ball. Yeah, they did
something a couple of weeks ago that caused this to happen.
And much like the PAC twelve can look in its
(33:01):
mirror and say this is why it fell apart, they
can too. So we'll get to all that coming up today.
Speaker 1 (33:05):
Who else you got, I know you said you got, Yeah,
Dick Jake.
Speaker 8 (33:07):
I'm excited. I mean we had Jake already scheduled, which
was awesome. Timing works out pretty damn good. And then
also our week we visit on Thursdays with Stuart Mandel
from the Athletic, the college football guru that he is
perfect time. The Athletics got like eighteen stories up on
this thing right now. So yeah, I met between Mandel
and dickertt were good. Corbyn Smith talking all things Seahawks
(33:27):
at one o'clock, and then the unofficial start of the
weekend Brandon Funston coming up today at two o'clock. Here's
how it works. Phone calls first, text messages second at
four nine, four or five to one. If you want
your text message answered, it can't come in before high
noon loven fifty nine to fifty nine, and we can
(33:48):
you Chris can tell him you can see it on
the text line. We had two that came in e
eleven fifty nine to fifty nine last week. Didn't get ready, sorry,
eight that came in right at twelve.
Speaker 5 (33:55):
I don't know how you do it. We do it
every week though, four nine, four to five one. That
was all coming up today.
Speaker 4 (33:59):
By there it is the mayor coming up next on
ninety three point three KJRFM. Thank you for listening, you guys,
don't turn that down in Furness and Company coming up
right after these commercials
