Kidd rolling on with the second hour here on ninety
three point three KJERFM. We're with you every day ten
am to noon when I'm not in Boston or on
a plane back from Boston halfway across the globe. Jorry Epstein,
senior NFL writer for Yahoo Sports, joined us next courtesy
of Zeke's Pizza. She's here every Tuesday talking all things NFL.
(00:24):
She joined us right after Headlines brought to you by
Frostbroud Corps Light Choose Chill. The Seahawks two and oh
in first place. This is the seventh time in a
quarter century, seventh time in twenty five years they started
two and oh. They made the playoffs all six other times.
Four of those times they won a division title, including
when they won their only Super Bowl championship at the
end of the twenty thirteen season. No word yet on
(00:45):
the status of elite running back Kenneth Walker and his
oblique injury, starting linebacker Jerome Baker and his hamstring injury,
or starting right tackle George Fitton his knee injury for
Saturday Sunday's game Seahawks against Miami at Lumenfield Walker. Last
time he had an oblique injury November, missed two and
a half games. He's only missed one so far in Miami.
(01:06):
Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel said starting quarterback two Tungue Viola
is due to see a neurologist and the team doesn't
have enough information yet to determine if he's going on
injured reserve. It's been widely assumed that he won't and
Thanky probably shouldn't play Sunday against the Seahawks, third confirmed
concussion of his career. He's sustained that in that scary
scene in Miami on Thursday night and the Dolphins lost
(01:28):
to the Bills. Back up Skyler Thompson is preparing to
start in Seattle on Sunday. The Dolphins signed quarterback Tyler
Huntley off Baltimore's practice squad for depth. The Eagles will
a game late last night, lost by a point to
the Falcons. Sakwon Barkley dropped the passing the flat late
that he catches it Falcons out of time oouts. They
wouldn't even have gotten the ball back for their rally
for their touchdown. A final drive, Jory Epstein was in
(01:51):
Philadelphia last night. We're going to talk to Jory about
that in particular other things. We're also going to talk
to her about the Panthers benching Bryce Young after just
nineteen starts. Yeah, you remember, they traded a boatload of
picks to move up to number one in the draft
last year to get him. Andy Dalton's gonna start for
Carolina against the Raiders, and former Seahawks assistant coach Dave
Canalis has already deep in at two games into his
(02:12):
head coaching career in Carolina. The Mariners off yesterday but
gained in their long shot playoff chase. Minnesota lost, Houston lost,
So the Mariners are two games behind the Twins for
the final wild card spot in the American League, four
games behind the trash Cans in the American League West,
twelve games left in the season. Tonight, the Mariners host
the Yankees. It started a three game series at the Yard.
(02:34):
Bryan wuz starts tonight with his eight and two record
in two point three eight ERA. Meanwhile, Minnesota is going
to be at first place Cleveland, Houston is at hot
San Diego. So here come the Mariners chance here the
next two nights to make up ground in their long, long,
long shot to get Rilling back to the playoffs. High
SK's coach, he had Fish defended his fourth down play call,
(02:56):
the option pitch into the short sideline that Washington State
stopped at the goal line the final minute to win
the Apple Cup. That was an oppress conference at Washington Yesterday,
the Huskies host Northwestern Saturday in the first ever Big

(03:40):
Arena tons in the NFL to talk about with Jory Epstein.
She joined us thanks to Zeke's Pizza on the Beacon
plumbing hotline. Jory, Happy week to you. Thanks for coming back.
You've been busy traveling around.
Speaker 2 (03:54):
Absolutely great to be on Gregon Kochspher and yes, I'm
Philadelphia right now. I got back to my telling him
about four o'clock in the morning after that Monday night
football game. So we are rolling. So I'm glad this
is an afternoon radio technic because I am much more
aware of life than I was this morning.
Speaker 1 (04:11):
Nothing like a Monday night game on the East coast.
Speaker 3 (04:13):
Yeah, that's fun stuff.
Speaker 4 (04:14):
So you were in the Philadelphia and I read your
story and Kirk Cousins, I mean, he looks like the
Kirk Cousins that they signed all the guaranteed money to.
Speaker 1 (04:24):
Huh.
Speaker 2 (04:25):
Absolutely, I mean I think what kind of went through
my mind yesterdays like last week. Kirk is struggling, He's
getting like career loads in his mobility, barely dropping back,
and then all of a sudden people are like, well,
Michael Pennix, they drafted him in the first round. Obviously
your listeners know quite a bit about Michael Penick Junior.
And I just thought that that was so not on
my mind. During the game last night, I did talk
(04:46):
to Michael Pennick Junior in the locker room afterwards, and
it was great to catch up with him. But this
idea of like, oh, we need to replace Kirk. No,
Kirk was that team. He loved them on the two
Minute Drive. One thing I actually loved with I don't
know if you'll watch any of the Manning cast, so
I was watching me ask sure, and Matt Ryan was
saying that when you switch offenses, one of the things
that is sometimes the easiest in that new offense is
(05:06):
the two minute drill because you're not trying to like
work with a new playbook. You really are going back
to these aple plates that changed. And I thought Kirk
totally showed that in Philadelphia in a very hostile environment
last night getting that lie.
Speaker 1 (05:18):
So now that you.
Speaker 4 (05:18):
Piqued our interest, Joy, what did Michael Michael Pennix Junior.
Speaker 3 (05:23):
Say to you?
Speaker 2 (05:25):
Absolutely well, I was really interested in talking to him
because I talked to him at the Senior Bool and
kind of a group setting and asked him to break
down a play that he had broken down in interviews there,
and he gave me such a detailed answer that I'm like, Okay,
I want to hear now what he's thinking, But I
think really he was just kind of walking me through
what was going on in the locker was less about
him and more about the team, I would say, because
obviously he didn't play, but trying to understand, Hey, what
(05:47):
is that mindset when you guys go in the two
minutes drill and when you're at the end of the game.
And he was saying, look, we told everyone believe and
don't be superman, don't be a superhero, just do your
job a little bit pichet and he told me that
received Morris from the locker master said that the mentality
is who's next, which is a little bit of a
scary situation for them because who's next to the Kansas
City Chiefs.
Speaker 3 (06:08):
Ah, that's right, the chiefs.
Speaker 1 (06:10):
So Michael Pennix may not think sekwon Barkley. If Barkley
drops that pass, Cousins doesn't even have that drive. And
everyone in Atlanta's talking about being zero to two, and
where's Michael Pennix coming in?
Speaker 3 (06:23):
Fair or not fair?
Speaker 2 (06:24):
You know fair that there will be people talking about
that if that's not the case. But to me, that
would be such an overreaction because Kirk did struggle in
week one and again. I talked to several players in
the lockeram last night who talked about the offense didn't
have a good week, like that was not their game.
They were against the Pittsburgh Steelers, but last night they
had a great week. I mean, you look through what
Jhon Robinson was doing, just slicing up the Eagles and
(06:47):
the run game. In the pass game, you look at
the different receivers that Kirk was connecting with, from Drake
London to what's his name, Darneld Mooney. I mean, all
of these people, and I think that Kirk just looked
so in control of that game. But even if you
didn't had the two minute drie which, by the way,
this is like the team's first Monday Night football here
into four years. To be able to be on that
prime time stage and play at the level that they did,
(07:09):
I think it's impressive either way, but obviously a lot
happier for them going home on that flight with a win.
Speaker 4 (07:15):
Why are we talking so much about the Falcons, Well,
the Seahawks go to Atlanta October twentieth, a couple of
road games from now. Joey Epstein, Senior writer NFL for
Yahoo Sports, joining us on the Beacon plumbing online as
he does every Tuesday thanks to Zeke's Pizza.
Speaker 1 (07:29):
What is up with the Saints? Are they going seventeen
and zero and are they going to like score eighty
points a game? What is going on down there in
New Orleans? Has Derek carb been reincarnated by Kubiak?
Speaker 2 (07:40):
It is pretty insane. Yeah, Clint Kubiak's your offensive coordinator.
Coordinator now coming there from San Francisco and they have
ninety one points in two weeks. And I understand that
the first week they played the Carolina Panthers, but the
Dallas can't believe beat the Cleveland towns in Cleveland and
then just got destroyed by the Saints. I think two
things are true. One, they had a lot of personnelity
that is being schemed way more effectively than it was.
(08:02):
And I had a good defense last year, so I
think that they're kind of being used to their strengths more.
I also think they just faced the Cowboys team that
for at least four years now since they had their
to San Francisco off as in the playoffs, has been
unable to stop that Shanahan's scheme. This isn't a Cowboys defense.
That's much more athletic than it is beefy, and they're
much better being able to pass rush when they're ahead,
(08:24):
then be able to catchack and play and effect and
get pressure when they're behind. What I think is interesting
for the Saints team is they're now going to face
the Eagles. When I was talking to some people with
the Eagles last night, I was like, well, do you
guys have the personnel to stop the Saint because the
Cowboys dominant. They were pretty much enmitting to me that no,
they also do not have the personnel. So I think
we should expect the Saints to run at the score
(08:45):
yet again this week when Philadelphia visits them on a
short week, no less.
Speaker 5 (08:48):
Well on the opposite end of two and oh, there's
zero to two. And that's where the Baltimore Ravens have
started their season. They lost to the Chiefs and a
tough opener, and then they were surprised by the open
on the Las Vegas Raiders. Look like they go on
the road and beat Lamar Jackson in company at home.
Is it time to panic if you're a Ravens fan?
(09:09):
Because Wow, their next game they play the Cowboys, and
there's no way you can make the playoffs going zero
to three, can you.
Speaker 2 (09:15):
I mean, it is extremely difficult statistically to make the
playoffs if you're on three. There's a lot of data
out there on that. I also think that if one
of your losses is to the Chiefs at the very end,
like that was just fairly stepping outside uh the end
zone for Isaiah, likely you need an asterisk on it
because yes, it doesn't impact your record as much, but
don't I am not concerned about them. In Week one,
(09:36):
they looked like a team that is going to be
back playing that Chiefs team in the divisional round or
the AFC Championship. Obviously, going back to this past week,
like that was an upset by the Raiders. Things like
that happen, and I think what's funny is you now
have a Cowboys team that just came off getting embarrassed,
a Ravens team that definitely got at least surprised by
the Raiders, and now you're like putting them against each other.
(09:58):
But again, what I just said about the Cowboys inability
to defend certain run schemes and certain running quarterbacks too,
I think Lamar is going to make Dallas pay this week.
Speaker 1 (10:06):
As for oh and three teams. You got to go
back to go back to two thousand and two. There've
been one hundred three teams to start oh and three.
Anyone want to guess how many times a team has
rallied from own three in the last twenty two years
to make the playoffs once one hundred three, one hundred three.
Speaker 2 (10:23):
I was going to take seven times one time.
Speaker 4 (10:26):
Twenty eighteen Houston Texans. Oh wow, that's what.
Speaker 5 (10:29):
Baltimore a quarterback in twenty eighteen.
Speaker 2 (10:32):
Isshawn Watson, right, I think, oh.
Speaker 5 (10:34):
My goodness, wow, Okay, well that's right.
Speaker 2 (10:38):
He talked about that recently after he lost his first game.
I think they were like maybe even oh and four
at the beginning of that starts the season, I think
he was saying. And then they won something like eleven
straighter around that, so yeah, it can happen. But this
is true. I mean even the Falcon yesterday when they
were asked about being oh and two, they're like, and
what that means to a play it? They're like, we
don't want to focus on that, but the whole league
(10:59):
notes how you start at the beginning of the season
really doesn't matter.
Speaker 1 (11:03):
Jerry, your big picture or canvas, the whole league. You
have the whole league to choose from. Who was your
player of the week, most impressive player in Week two
in the NFL.
Speaker 2 (11:12):
This might be recency bias. I don't think it is.
Jesse Bates last night was incredible for the Atlanta Falcons.
He denied a touchdown to DeVonta Smith on one play
he had the game feeling interception and I don't even
think that was his most impressive play. And what I
loved about it is for years he's been super athletic,
but the mental level at which he's playing the game.
I mean, first of all, he was talking about, oh, well, yeah,
(11:35):
I know, and I say their two minutes, Taily, here's
what their schemes book. He really understood his film studies
so well. And he also said, I know that teams
when they played paid big money to their stars that too,
they're going too. So he wasn't going to sell out
for DeVonta Smith with AJ Brown now last night with
a hamstring injury, but he did know, like I need
to be aware of him, and he really just his
instincts combined with the preparation totally elevated his game. A
(11:59):
quick fun story that Jessie Bates that I just love.
So when I was in twenty eighteen Jesse's rookie season,
I was let you to say today, and one of
my first features I did in that national role was
about players who had gotten hurdled, and so I reached
out to different teams whose defenders had been hurdles. Not
the hurdlers, but the people who got hurt of that's
a great story. And I remember one team and I
(12:20):
won't say who, was like, how could you dare ask
us to talk to that player about that? He already
got embarrassed on national television, now you wanted him to
talk about it too, Like this is ridiculous. And the
Bengals were like, yeah, sure, here's Jesse. And Jesse's telling
me all about how in his group tech his friends
are like, oh, you're gonna be on all these highlight
reels blah blah blah. And I just thought it was
so cool that even as a rookie, he had that
(12:41):
presence of mind to just be able to talk about
it so comfortably. And I hadn't seen him in person
since I finally last night was like, hey, remember this,
just wanted to thank you, and he was like, oh yeah,
Kareem Hunt hurdled me, so he had a special place
in my heart for helping me back then. But it
really was just super impressive what he did last night
and when they played the Chiefs this week. I mean again,
he was on that Bengals defense that really caused a
(13:02):
Chief so many problems of the years. So I'm not
saying you should pick Atlanta this week for that reason,
but I do expect him to make more plays against
Patrick Mahumps in that group.
Speaker 5 (13:10):
Speaking of making plays, justin Fields he's just playing the position.
He hasn't had any turnovers, interceptions that is, and it
seems that Mike Tomlins believing the kid because Russell Wilson
is looks like he's not going to play in week three.
Are you surprised by how things have started regarding between Well,
are you surprised with how things I've started regarding RUSSELLI
(13:32):
wasn't supposed to be the starter, gets banged up, and
now justin Field seems to have stolen the job.
Speaker 2 (13:38):
I'm definitely surprised because I was there in training camp
when Russ's cast was bothering him and he wasn't practicing.
He did a little bit of into individual work. Today
I was there, but no team jokes. But still throughout
that whole time, Mike Tomlin said, like, this is Russ's
job for now. I think the thing is, even if
Justin isn't lighting and that which, by the way, he
had some great plays and one of his best places
(13:59):
called back to go on somebody else that passed the pickens.
And so I think that if you have a quarterback
who's not making mistakes and who's putting the team in
the position that they want, as long as you're winning,
you do not change that. Again, very different situations. But
when I started in this league in twenty sixteen and
Dak Prescott kept rowing, who lost his first game, and
they won something like eleven straight on the way to
thirteen and three, it didn't matter that Tony Growlan, who
(14:20):
had shown a lot more in his clear he never
got that job back, and in fact he never really
played together other than like the final week meaningless game.
And so I think that as long as Justin Fields
keeps doing enough to win, particularly if he's not making mistakes,
he's going to keep this job. And I also think
Russell's calf injury could be a little more serious than
this team is letting on. But I think it's both
if you have that cap injury, which by the way,
(14:41):
the casts goes to the achilles very quickly, and if
you mess with your achilles, it takes a lot longer
to come back from. And we're seeing that kind of
Christian McCaffrey too with his cat. But I do think
that the combination of Justin Field is playing in Russ's
cap entry. You don't rush back, particularly an agent quarterback
as son as Justin is doing this.
Speaker 1 (14:59):
Hey, they've been a score some more points in Pittsburgh.
Evnch the Pirates score more than the Steelers.
Speaker 4 (15:03):
Right now, Joy, I got to ask you about Bryce Young,
the longtime Seahawks assistant Dave Kanala's. Two games into his
head coaching career, he gets his legs chopped out.
Speaker 3 (15:13):
Up from under him.
Speaker 1 (15:13):
By all accounts from his owner, who's pretty much it
seems directed. No, you're benching Bryce Young after nineteen starts.
I've heard people say, well, give him a couple of
weeks to regroup. You've just destroyed his psyche for the
rest of the season by benching him out of nowhere.
Your thoughts on that whole situation, how it went down,
and what's next for both Carolina and Bryce Young.
Speaker 2 (15:36):
It's fascinating. I was shocked when I saw this yesterday,
and when I was talking to some sources before the
game kicked off last night, I had the one person
tell me I just assumed it was like Tom Pellisera's
name spelled wrong, like they thought it was a fake
report when they first saw it. Everyone was checking if
this was actually the real reporters saying that you mentioned,
Because look, this is a quarterback who's already had like
(15:56):
three different head coaches of some short it's all sorts
of play college, and it's two games into this coach
and the system. And I understand that looks bad, but
also a lot of people are looking bad against the
Saints already. I think what I struggle with is how
do you come back from that? In the Carolina locker room,
I think it's easy to point to the owner, David Tepper,
and I don't think that his I think his imprint
(16:17):
on the team is here, and when you talk to
a lot of people around the league, they're all like, oh,
Tepper must have made this decision. I also think there's
a case of like, hey, Tepper saw last year. When
he doesn't feel like the head coach is being able
to get what he wants out of a quarterback and
out of a group, he's going to make a decision quickly.
So this head coach knows I don't have the long
wish that hey, a Green Bay type team would have.
(16:38):
And then you get in there and say, well, I
need to keep the rest of my guys engaged. And
there is kind of this thing to me when I'm
thinking a big picture, I'm like, Okay, well, if Bryce
isn't your guy, don't you want to lose your games anyway?
Keep playing him and then just pick someone this next
year because you're in your draft capital for twenty twenty four.
But there's also this case of are you going to
lose the entire rest of the locker room? And then
(16:58):
so I do give Canal's credit in the sense of
like I watched a Zach Wilson kept starting in New
York last year and Robert Talla was like, well, I've
run around him, needs to play better, And I'm like,
you know, you don't believe that's the locker room. You
notice that you don't believe that, and you really do
have to consider that. So I would say that when
I think about how you arrive at this decision, this
is how do we not lose the entire team if
(17:19):
we feel like we've lost our quarterback? And then you
ask yourself if Bryce Young Neck's going to play with
another team, which, by the way, I'm not saying you
will resurrect his career. Your hope for any guy too.
But when you look at what Samdernold's doing in Minnesota,
I mean, and you look at what Baker Mayfield is
doing in Tampa. There are guys so I've not succeeded
in Carolinas who are starting at the league at the
high level right now, So this is possible.
Speaker 3 (17:40):
The NFL's Mariners.
Speaker 1 (17:43):
Yeah, you didn't bring that up.
Speaker 4 (17:46):
No, But if you're Dave Canalis, what are you thinking?
You come out on the day after the game and
or whatever Sunday and say Bryce Young's our quarterback and
the next day you're benching him that.
Speaker 1 (17:54):
I mean, the locker room has to be saying, who's
the coach here? Now? What do you from Dave Canalis's perspective,
how's this going to play for him the.
Speaker 3 (18:01):
Rest of the year?
Speaker 2 (18:03):
I mean, I think it goes both ways. I think,
on one hand, you have the I got our coach
just said something else. On the other hand, you have
he is your quarterback until he's not. And so I
think as a coach you have to say, Okay, I
go back and watch the film. I go back and
make this decision. And how long am I willing to
keep telling myself and the team this? And if I
don't believe this, when am I going to make a decision?
And again going back to that zero and three set,
(18:24):
I don't expect the Panthers to make the playoffs this
year anyway, but being able to get just one win.
Look at what the Raiders are doing with the first
year coach, look at what the Patriots, And again I know,
not this week, the week before, getting a win with
the first year coach. That win can do so much
for the team. That sounds so cliche, but you just
need to have some sort of like winning emotion in
that city. And I don't think that they view Bryce
(18:45):
Young as the pass to get there anytime soon. And
Andy Dalton, again, he's not going to be your future necessarily,
but he is a very very solid backup splash starter
when he comes in.
Speaker 1 (18:55):
Dave Canala is already in a mess two games in
his head coaching career. We got to ask you about
Tago Viola, the whole situation in Miami, the fact he's
not on injured reserve yet. Should he be playing and
should we be talking about his quality of life and
being a father and a husband more than whether he's
even playing the next couple of weeks.
Speaker 2 (19:14):
I think we should be talking about his quality of life.
The thing is, even if we talk about it, this
is a decision that Tua has to make him their
summer on the league. Who do believe he's even going
to play against y'all this week? I think what's interesting
to me is there's the player in the league who
I've seen the most similar situation with its Eagles, Tightan
Grant calcutarrast So. Grant Calcatras started his college career at Oklahoma.
I believe he had three diagnosed concussions, and I always
(19:36):
qualify concussion reporting as diagnoses because usually these guys experienced
a lot more than their reporting, and he retired due
to it, went on, became an emergency medical personal, got
all his training, and then it was like, wait, actually
I want to play football now the doctor who said
he could when there are other doctors who said he
should not transferred to s and U and now has
been playing to the Eagles for the last few years.
And I worked with him on a story pre draft,
(19:57):
and when I was watching him play last night and
I a belief he coppa first half of the game
from Jalen Hurts, I was like, look, I don't believe
he made that decision with his health top of mind. Again,
that's my opinion, not his. But he has made this
career out of it the next three years. And he's
a tight end, so he's blocking all the time, more
likely to get hit in quarterbacks in some ways, or
at least to be hit differently. And so I think
(20:19):
that I would be nervous to play with tool right
now if as the Dolphins, I would be nervous if
I'm Adam Derdey preparing my guys to go hit this
guy really hard after he just had the fencing response,
which is the sign of a traumatic brain injury last week.
And we know that that's happened at least three times,
or these traumatic brain injuries have happened at least three
times in the last few years. I also think that,
like this is to a's decision. I'm happy for him
(20:40):
that he has his guaranteed money, and it kind of
underscores why these guys do fight for their contracts because
it can be over so quickly. But I think that
us saying that, or even Antonio Pierce saying like, you
need to think about a quality of life and to
be clear, like I said this on our podcast last week,
Richard Sherman's on National TV saying he thinks he needs
to retire. But these are not like everyone in at
(21:01):
home who's never played this game. He's just one of
the most physical players we've seen in the history of
the NFL who believe he should retire. The thing is
that's still to a decision, and it's the Dolphin's decision,
and that's really all that matters right now.
Speaker 4 (21:12):
You kind of just threw it in there. I're gonna
ask you again, there's some around the league who have
told you they think Tiger vo is going to play
this weekend in Seattle.
Speaker 2 (21:20):
I did have someone tell you that. Again. I'm not
like reporting that he will play, but there is definitely
a belief in some circles that that's not a question, lots.
Speaker 1 (21:30):
To talk about. We will be lots to talk about
next Tuesday as well. Thanks a lot, Jory. I know
you're very busy and we appreciate you taking time for
us to talk every Tuesday at eleven am. Take care
of a great week.
Speaker 2 (21:40):
Talk you seeing Guding.
Speaker 1 (21:42):
Thanks Jory Epstein, senior NFL writer for Yahoo Sports. Tons
We got around there and he said that there are
some people think that there's definite possibility of to a
plan on Sunday.
Speaker 4 (21:55):
What kind of world do we live in?
Speaker 3 (21:57):
Man?
Speaker 4 (21:58):
Is it all about wins and losses and money and jobs?
And guy's a father, he's got young kids.
Speaker 6 (22:08):
Be the dad.
Speaker 4 (22:09):
I thought McDonald was great after the game when he
said that he said two and needs to go home
be a dad.
Speaker 1 (22:16):
Well, let him stay home and be a dad. We'll
get him on a plane and come to Seattle and
worry about game planning and playing the Seahawks on Sunday.
Is it that important to win an NFL game? Four
and four to five? One?
Speaker 3 (22:27):
To tell him?
Speaker 1 (22:27):
We'll do TEXTI and we come back. We'll read back
your text. Eleven thirty five factor fiction coming up next
to your chance to win one thousand dollars from the
Emerald Queen Casino. If you missed our talk with Jory Epstein,
it'll be on the iHeartRadio app or the ninety three
to three KJR dot com on at Greg Bell Show
with Christopher Kidd podcast later today, lots more to time
on ninety three point three KJRFM. Hi, welcome back, Greg
(22:55):
Bell of the News should being and Christopher Kay with
you on ninety three point three KJRFM. You know what
that music means? Trying to read back your text on
the telemooredue text line four nine four five one.
Speaker 5 (23:05):
When it's game time, It's Tully time from the two
O six. It's quite simple. Go Koogs, go Koogs, Go Coogs.
Karma is a go Coogs on thousand percent with you.
Let's see. Hey guys, Joel here just want to say
thanks for all you do. Sitting here at Swedish as
my son's mother goes to chemo treatment and listen to
(23:27):
you guys and it brings joy every day. Hey, Joel,
hang in there, man. We appreciate all the love and support,
but hang tight. Things will definitely.
Speaker 1 (23:35):
Get much better. Thank you so much for love and support.
Let's see.
Speaker 5 (23:39):
Ooh, this is a good one four, two five, No
way the Hawks are two and oh if they played
San Francisco and Buffalo in the first two weeks, Chip
and Redmond two five to three. No schedule is two
to and oh not the Seahawks. Interesting from the two
oh six. If the Hawks were playing good teams, question
mark No, they wudn't be two and oh.
Speaker 1 (24:00):
They would likely be ohing two.
Speaker 5 (24:02):
That should seem obvious by just looking at the results
against the team they have played from the two o six.
Depends on who we would have played instead, but I
say likely it's one and one, Greg, are you still
on that ozero and two or one in one if
they had played better teams per se.
Speaker 1 (24:20):
They aren't playing enough well enough of the line of
scrimmage to be Yeah, they have one and one at
best they have They have been fortunate. But who they've
played the first two weeks Now, there are signs they're
just not there yet. But there are signs, yes, and
they are going to be better on defense, much better.
You can bet McDonald's going to have some of these
tackling and assignment issues in the run game fixed. But yeah,
(24:43):
they've benefited for sure.
Speaker 5 (24:44):
From the two oh six they are the worst two
and oh team HM.
Speaker 1 (24:49):
A lot of people agree with that. If you look
at power rankings, the NFL has around the league four
two five. A few weeks ago during the show, you
said you'd pay you well you I ask if you
do pay DK metcalf and I said yes. Also said
extend Gino Smith for two years and fifty four million.
At the time you said you weren't sure due to age.
(25:10):
How about now, I still would wait on Gino Smith.
I wouldn't extend him now. I'd extend him after the season,
and that would be typical to what John Schneider does,
extends his foundational players in the year going into the
year of his final contract. Smiths contract ends after twenty
twenty five, number two points from the four to two five.
No matter what did doctors say about Tua, if I
(25:31):
owned the Dolphins, I would have already made it clear
he's out at least a month so we can talk
to all the specialists and his family about quality of life.
Totally agree with this. In the in the.
Speaker 4 (25:41):
Tempo of an NFL game week, there's no time for that.
He's got to be game planning and getting ready in
film study. If somebody in Miami thinks he's going to
play this week. That's what two is doing right now.
He's not home resting, he's not home being a dad.
He's not home dealing with neurology and just looking at
the bigger picture because he's got to move on to
(26:01):
the next That's how the league is. It's Wednesday already
in their minds. I mean it's Tuesday on the calendar,
but they are already onto the next game. So I
totally agree. Someone needs to step in and say, no,
we're shutting you down, no matter what the specialists say,
to give you rest, and so you aren't focused on
all these other things. Now, if he's got traumatic brain
(26:23):
injury or any kind of brain injury, he should not
be studying game plans and in a film room he's
resting his head. But I get it, the competitive nature,
how much you're paying him the wins at all costs.
That's the business we're in. That's the business I've covered
for twenty five years.
Speaker 3 (26:39):
I know it.
Speaker 1 (26:40):
I understand that.
Speaker 3 (26:41):
I do believe me.
Speaker 1 (26:43):
But is that right?
Speaker 4 (26:44):
No, that is wrong. You have to separate him from
the entire equation for the week in order for him
to get the rest and the perspective that he needs
to have. He can't gain that in a day or
two or in an off day before he starts heading
to the rest of.
Speaker 3 (26:59):
The Yeah, I could go on about that.
Speaker 4 (27:04):
Now's your chance right now at eleven thirty five to
win one thousand dollars.
Speaker 1 (27:08):
Takes the Emerald Queen Casino.
Speaker 6 (27:10):
Where's that to go?
Speaker 1 (27:11):
Glad you're with us.
Speaker 7 (27:12):
It's your shot at our weekly thousand bucks and the
ten thousand dollars grand prize. It's Factor Fiction, brought to
you by the Emerald Queen Casino, the betting capital of
the Northwest. Make the beautiful new WEEQUC sportsbooky your home
all football season long. Fact Door Fiction is on Sports
(27:32):
Radio ninety three point three KJR FM.
Speaker 1 (27:38):
Come on now, if you listen to me for a
day or two on this show, you know where I'm headed.
You know where I'm headed. The Army Black Knights are back.
They had a week off last week. They're undefeated. They're
back home and Mikey Stadium in West Point. They play
Rice Rice a Roni the San Francisco treat Rice has lost.
(27:59):
This seat is in thirty four to fourteen to Sam
Houston State, and they lost last week to the other Houston,
University of Houston Cougars thirty three seven. That's twenty one
points to Sam, Houston State and Houston combined. I was
gonna go Army and under, my favorite pick, but you
know what, Chris the over under. Everyone else in the
country is on me about is following me about Army
(28:21):
and under because the younger under has dropped seven points
in a day. So I'm gonna stay away from that,
even though I think it's still hard going to go under,
but it went from forty nine to forty two points
to a day. Gimme Army minus five and a half
against Rice at home Saturday. That's a nine am local
time kickoff CBS Sports Network. Look for Army to go
(28:43):
to three and zero in the season they're at home.
I say they beat Rice by more than a touchdown
a touchdown or more. Give me Army minus five and
a half at home to beat Rice. Agreed. Text factor
fiction four nine four or five to one. Disagree at
your own risk by texting for f one. Just to
keep in mind, four and one off to the best
start at the station. Our show is leading the station.
(29:07):
Just food for thought, let me a little context here,
Army go ahead. I will say Anderson has he's undefeated,
he's two and o two and oh, I'm just saying,
but he's one hundred.
Speaker 4 (29:23):
I have five games, he's had two. Just throwing that
out here.
Speaker 1 (29:28):
No, Egan doesn't let Andrews pick any game. He just
walked in.
Speaker 4 (29:34):
He's two and oh, I'm four and one. Army minus
five and a half against Rice. If you believe it,
if you agree, you're a good man and a good American,
and good woman and a good American.
Speaker 1 (29:46):
Text four nine four five one to the tombel were
text line. If you disagree, you should be sent on
a barge off shore somewhere. Four nine four five one
to disagree, type disagree fact fiction. If you disagree type fact,
if you agree. How it works is if you win
if you are correct. If you go fact for Army
(30:08):
minus five and a half, you're going to get entered
in a chance to win one thousand dollars. If you
pick fiction, you won't get entered. You have twenty chances
to win for the five show, four shows, five weekdays.
If you win it all, you get into a pool
of drawing for one thousand dollars. We had a winner
the first week of this contest that won on the
(30:28):
only pick he had of the week was Army in
the under, So go with the Black Knights is what
I'm trying to say, Army minus five and a half.
If you win once on any of the shows, you
get entered at a pool in your name. If we
will draw on Monday, Anderson Hurst will draw a winner
and name of any of the winners from the week
your name drawing, you win one thousand dollars. If you win,
say twenty times this week, or ten times this week,
(30:52):
or five times this week, you have a chance to
win ten thousand dollars at the end of the season
thanks to the Emerald Queen Casino, the betting capital of
the Northwest. Because the person who wins the most throughout
the season ending in mid December, just in time for Christmas,
that person will win ten thousand dollars. Get it. You
only have to win once to be entered in the
drawing to win one thousand dollars.
Speaker 3 (31:13):
This week.
Speaker 1 (31:14):
The most wins, the most times you play, the most
chances you have to win. The most wins by the
end of the season gets ten thousand dollars Army minus
five and a half at home against Rice fac to
four nine, four or five to one, or those misguided
could boot fiction to four or five to one. Man,
what's gonna be when the Army Navy week rolls around?
We should have like by quarter parlays on this show.
(31:35):
We probably we can do that. That's not a problem.
That's out there. Yeah, it is out there. How many
times the cannon will go off? How many times? How
many push ups Army will be the cadets will be
pushing in the end zone. Justin McIntyre and I will
be in Washington, d C. For the Army Navy game.
By the way, covering at four ninety three point three
KJRFM in Washington the second week of December. Up next,
(31:59):
my man with the coup cap. It still has the
tag on it. I think it's brand new as of
the Apple Cup Saturday. Ian Fornes he'll join us next
on ninety three point three kJ RFN. Hi, welcome back,
(32:21):
Greg Bell, love the news. She beuting Christopher Kay with you.
We are every day ten am to noon. If you
miss Joy Epstein and our talk with her, and we
covered a lot of ground including Dave Konamis's situation with
Bryce young to at Tugley of Viola, who apparently some
in the NFL have been telling her that they think
he's going to play on Sunday in Seattle. Wait what yeah,
Ian Finns joining me the mayor of People Valley, Yeah,
(32:43):
Jory said, there are some in the league who think
that two is gonna play against the Seahawks Sunday.
Speaker 4 (32:48):
What kind of world do we live in?
Speaker 3 (32:50):
Man?
Speaker 1 (32:50):
Well, what kind of football world? I should say, do
we live in? Because that's not real world.
Speaker 6 (32:55):
Here's the thing.
Speaker 8 (32:57):
You don't play him even if he passes whatever neurolgical
tests you have.
Speaker 4 (33:03):
You take him away and say, go rest and be
a dad.
Speaker 8 (33:07):
If I'm even gonna say this at some point in
a sport that's battling for its mere survival at the
grassroots level, and I'm really passionate about this because I
believe in my family football save his football means and
(33:27):
meant so much to my kid, and it got him
through some things, and it's the ones. It just means
a lot, and I think there's a lot good in football.
I hate the world we're turning into with seven on
seven in flag football, and trying to tell people that's
real football.
Speaker 3 (33:41):
It's not.
Speaker 8 (33:43):
This is the football is football. That's a reason everyone
watches on Sunday. It's a reason that cumulative college football
is the highest rated thing we'll watch on the week,
and cumulative NFL right there too. But you're not gonna
allow like moms and dads of little people are not
going to let their kids play football if at the
highest level, you're negligent, as the NFL would be if
(34:05):
they allow him. And this is where the league has
to step in and say he's not You've got a
red hat on the sideline for a game.
Speaker 6 (34:10):
This is even easier. No, you don't play, you do
not play.
Speaker 4 (34:16):
This is where the owner needs to step in and say,
uh uh, I mean the owner in Carolina decides.
Speaker 3 (34:21):
To the course.
Speaker 8 (34:21):
If the owner definitely because you know at some point
there's gonna ben injury settlement. You don't want to you
don't want a liability settlement. I can't imagine there would
be a I cannot imagine that there would be a
medical doctor worth his salt that would allow him to play.
Speaker 1 (34:38):
Well medically in my league rule.
Speaker 4 (34:40):
If he's back to baseline right, then they can't but
the team can step in and say, no, artist.
Speaker 6 (34:49):
What you can play whoever you want, bench, whoever you want.
Speaker 3 (34:51):
That's right.
Speaker 4 (34:52):
They can just say no, I don't care what the
neurology report says. You're not playing.
Speaker 8 (34:55):
The optics are just so bad.
Speaker 1 (34:58):
God, I don't know, man, it's a quality of life thing.
We want the guy to walk and talk and remember
his kids' names in ten years, twenty years.
Speaker 6 (35:05):
You're worried about CTE. You worry about all these things.
Speaker 8 (35:09):
I just that's and like I said, I worry about
the foot at the grassroots level, man, how can you
convince parents it's okay to play when you see a
guy in a spasm with clenching his fist and doing
all that stuff.
Speaker 4 (35:19):
My wife said, absolutely not. Our son is not playing football.
He's six ' four, he runs like the wind.
Speaker 3 (35:24):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (35:24):
His high school coach wanted him to be a wide
receiver safety and my wife said, nope, doing it.
Speaker 8 (35:29):
I mean, my kid had to beg to play and
knock on what he's He's never had that issue. It's
funny because he plays a position where they'll put the
caps on during training camps and even a college they
do and in sprint they don't get hit, that's not
that's not the guys that get concussions. That's right, it's
the guy's carrying a ball or hitting somebody to get it.
Speaker 3 (35:48):
Well, you know you guys, do you?
Speaker 6 (35:50):
I guess just want to kill the sport?
Speaker 3 (35:51):
Then just do that. You play them on Sunday. I
just can't think. I can't found them. No, I can't.
Speaker 1 (35:55):
I can't found it.
Speaker 6 (35:56):
I can't found them playing this year.
Speaker 1 (35:59):
That's you can an easy case for that. But there's so.
Speaker 4 (36:01):
Much money, there's so much wins and losses and jobs,
and absolutely, man, what kind of world do we live?
Speaker 8 (36:07):
If you're Mike McDaniel. You can't sit there on a
podium and say I care about him. I'm worried about him.
That's all I care about right now, and then put
him on the field Agains Seattle on Sunday because I'll
tell you right now, guys in the in the home jerseys,
they don't.
Speaker 1 (36:17):
Care, no should nor should they.
Speaker 8 (36:19):
Nor should they. And when he gets smoked from the
blind side, yeah yeah, I don't want to be there
for that. We get a busy show and McCoy's gonna
join us Washington Leftory. We'll talk about the expansion. Where're
at with expansion in the pack two, six, twelve, whatever
it's going to be. So she'll join us to.
Speaker 1 (36:39):
Eight Kyle Stanford, Huh, I don't.
Speaker 6 (36:41):
Know, well, and she won't give it. I I think
nine sounds like.
Speaker 1 (36:44):
The optimum number, right, so they have eight league games?
Speaker 8 (36:47):
Yeah, yeah, but we'll talk to her about that. I mean,
all this stuff going on behind the scenes. What happened
Joe Shean weekly visit, Mariners have Bronx bothers in town.
Let's go Yankees and Maritors. Starting tonight, she enjoined us
John Ryan's weekly visit one thirty and then Alex the
MK our coobs will celebrate at two o'clock day.
Speaker 1 (37:04):
Like Booze News for the midday shown. It's a good analogy.
I like that.
Speaker 8 (37:10):
Yeah, just like Booze News without the boos today. But yeah, absolutely,
your visit Factor Fiction two thirty five.
Speaker 1 (37:17):
Your visit with John Ryan last week was a hoot.
Speaker 6 (37:19):
Yeah, he'll be funny.
Speaker 3 (37:21):
That is gonna be great.
Speaker 1 (37:23):
That's Ian Fornatz from twelve to three every day with
Anderson Hurst and Jessamin McIntyre, Greg Bella The News Tribune,
