Speaker 1 (00:11):
Hi, welcome back, Greg Bell at the new Distributing and
Christopher Gaid with you in the second hour here Labor
Day morning, Happy Labor Day to you. Hopefully you're off
and enjoying it with family or loved ones wherever you are.
Ninety three KJRFM. Tony cashercon the Voice of the Huskies,
will join us after headlines brought to you by cors
Light Frost Froud Corps Light Choose Chill. The Mariners, Yeah,

(00:33):
they're still playing. They lost the Angels for the eighth
time and ten tries playing them yesterday. That's a team
that was fifty five and eighty one into the weekend
a nono. They're eight and two against the MS Boss
three to yesterday. The Mariners are now six and forty
four when scoring fewer than three runs in a game. Yeah,
more than a third of their season fifty games are
scoring two to one or zero. Only Colorado in the

(00:55):
Chicago White Sex a fewer wins in the last forty
four games, and the Mariners nineteen are now six games
out in the American League West. They're actually closer than
the wildcard standings, five and a half games out there
today Logan Gilbert tries to win for the first time
in four decisions at Oakland four h seven. First pitch
start on Roots Sports. The Seahawks today we talked about

(01:16):
their third quarterback situation and they've got one. Jared Hall,
former Minnesota Vikings quarterback fifth round pick from BYU last year,
signed to the Seahawks practice squad. The Seahawks released est
Off Winston Junior, the former Cougar's wide receiver, to make
room on the practice squad for the third quarterback. It's
Jaron Hall in from Minnesota, former PYU quarterback. It's your

(01:38):
third quarterback for the Seahawks right now. We mentioned college
football began this weekend. Washington State won at home and
pullman seventy thirty over Portland State. Nationally, USC beat LSU
last night. Notre Dame want A, Texas A and m
Oregon had some trouble with Idaho for a late touchdown

(01:58):
beat him twenty four to fourteen. Army Black Knights beat
Le High forty two seven. Miami went into the swamp
and just smoked Florida forty one seventeen. With Cam Woard,
the former Washington State quarterback quarterbacking the Hurricanes and your
Washington Husky thirty five to three over Weaver State Saturday night,
as heard here on ninety three point three KJRFM, and

(02:20):
the man who described the action, The man who describes
all the action for Huskies football and basketball is with
us on the beacon plumbing Hot. I'm Tony Cashercoone. Thank
you for taking time out of your football holiday to
join us, sir.

Speaker 2 (02:32):
Yeah, good to talk to you. Greg. How are you?

Speaker 1 (02:34):
I'm well, sir? I am well. Okay. Big picture, your
impressions of the opener in fourteen to nothing halftime lead
thirty five to three. Jonah Coleman three touchdowns rushing, Will
Rodgers at twenty for twenty five debut throwing. What'd you
think of the first night for the new Jedfish era?

Speaker 2 (02:52):
Yeah? I thought it was great.

Speaker 3 (02:54):
I mean, with truly no expectations going into it. Yeah,
truly expectations. You, especially after having lost one of those
FCS openers three years ago to Montana, You go in
just thinking like, hey, let's let's look good more often

(03:14):
than not, let's get out of here with the win.

Speaker 2 (03:16):
And it wasn't. It wasn't like close.

Speaker 3 (03:19):
It wasn't like, yeah, they got a late touchdown to
kind of had the score. I mean they scored, they
had the fourteen to nothing halftime lead, but they scored
touchdowns on the first three drives of the second half
and and and kind of put it out of reach.
And you know, I think they tinkered around with the
offensive line, and head coach Jed Fish said finding the

(03:41):
five they want for the second half of the season
is going to be a work in progress. They're going
to be trying a lot of combos just because there's
so much new on the offensive nine no returning starters
on offense. But you know, I thought Jonah Coleman was sensational,
really excited about the true freshman running back at of

(04:02):
Mohammed and.

Speaker 2 (04:02):
How he looked.

Speaker 3 (04:04):
I thought, both quarterbacks look good. It will be Will
Rogers team, but Demon Williams is the quarterback of the
future and looks very confident for a young eighteen year old.
And I think they've got some nice skill on the outside.
Defense just was stifling. Like the defense played the way
you would want a defense at Washington to play against

(04:25):
an FCS opponent. I mean, just gave him nothing, you know,
the entire game, six straight punts, you know, three plays,
four plays, five plays four plays. I just think, like
it was, you maybe would have liked to see a
turnover thrown in there. The late field goal blew the shutout,
but you know there, it's it's hard to really pitch
a shutout nowadays in college football, especially when you're trying

(04:47):
to work your twos and your threes in. I think,
all things considered, it was it was a really good
start and a good building block. Is things get a
little bit tougher this week against Eastern Michigan.

Speaker 1 (04:57):
The voice of the Haski is Tony cashercohone, taking time
out of his labor day more join us here on
the Beacon Plumbing Hotline. After Washington thirty five Weavers State three,
Eastern Michigan comes to Husky Stadium twelve thirty pm kickoff
on Saturday at Husky Stadium. How does this, Tony, Now
you've seen him in the preseason, now you've seen him
for a first game. If you could describe to someone,
how would you say this offense differs in style? We

(05:19):
know about the personnel change, like you said, no starters returning,
but how does it differ in style from the Ryan
Grebmichael Pennocks offense? The last two.

Speaker 3 (05:26):
Years, so I think this will be developing. Like you know,
after one game against an FCS team that you hope
to just overpower and overwhelm. I don't know that we
know this offense yet. That said, the stat that kind
of jumped off the page to me was last year's

(05:47):
Husky team threw the ball fifty seven percent of the
time on first down. This year's team ran it fifty
seven percent of the time on first down in Week one, right,
So I think they are gonna they're be a little
more interested in establishing the run in order to you know,
make themselves more versatile. Of course, like they're going to

(06:09):
have the ability to throw the ball. They've got a
lot of veteran guys on the outside and a quarterback
with forty one starts, but having the running game be
more of a part of the identity, maybe more of
a primary part of the identity with a guy like
Jonah Coleman, a sixty year running back in cam Davis,
some other really good looking young players behind them, that's
kind of what has stood out to me so far.

Speaker 1 (06:32):
Tony. You mentioned the backup quarterback, and Demon Williams was
a high schooler this time last year. He played in
the state semifinals in Arizona and then enrolls early in
the spring. You mentioned the eighteen year old freshman is
jetfish's objectively? You know college football, We all know college
football now, and you go shop in free agency after
every season to go look for the next transfer to

(06:53):
come in from some power school or somewhere else you
can play right away. But would the hope be for
a Jetfish in the system than then the program they're
trying to start here that the true freshmen Devin Williams
can be a guy that after this year, when will
Rogers leaves, they don't need to go shop at quarterback
or is that really too early to tell that.

Speaker 3 (07:11):
Well, I think you're always shopping because you always want
at least two, right, But I think, you know, I
think they really look at Demond Williams as the quarterback
of the future. And I mean we're not talking about like, yeah,
there are some guys that like maybe Arizona was their
best offer and then they kind of you know, followed
Jed to Washington and so they end up in you know,

(07:33):
at the Big ten level. DeMont Williams was a four
star recruit who was offered by Ole Miss, you know,
like Utah, Like I mean, big time programs, right, and
so this is a kid they probably could.

Speaker 2 (07:45):
Have played anywhere and just love his confidence.

Speaker 3 (07:50):
Is moxie, not afraid to step out there and has
probably you know, maybe the stronger arm of the two quarterbacks.
Saw him throw a lot of inners in camp, not
unexpected for a true freshman, right, but also truly truly
a dual threat. Like they're gonna have to actually coach
that out of him a little bit, like with his

(08:10):
first instinct being like all right, a little bit of pressure,
tucket and run, let's go. But it's so dynamic as
an athlete. I think he could be a really great quarterback.
And getting his feet wet with you know, game against
Weaver State hopefully this weekend.

Speaker 2 (08:26):
I don't know if they burned the red shirt.

Speaker 3 (08:28):
Or not this year, but I think what's most important
now is you just want some guys on your roster
with experience, and so for him to get some valuable
reps makes him a guy that has some experience going
into next year rather than hey, high ceiling guy but
has never played the game before. We better go out

(08:48):
and get a senior out of the portal just in
case you know what I mean. So I think Demond Williams,
they really do look at him as like, no, he's
gonna be He's gonna be in the running for this thing,
even this year, like he'll continue to push Will Rogers,
but certainly next year they would love to see him
be the guy.

Speaker 4 (09:05):
I don't want to jump too far ahead, Cam, but
I guess I'm gonna jump just two weeks because the
Apple Cup is coming up soon. How much have things
changed for you just now realizing, Wow, the Apple Cup
is not going to be at the end of the season,
And do you find yourself trying to, I guess not
make it a big deal, but it still is kind
of a big deal because it is the Apple Cup.
Even though it's not even at the middle of the season,

(09:27):
it's early in the beginning of it, if that makes sense.

Speaker 3 (09:29):
It's gonna have a whole different feel this year for sure.
And I think you know, there are some parts of
it that you just hate to see, Like you hate
to see the traditions that make college football so special.

Speaker 2 (09:43):
You hate to see those fall away.

Speaker 3 (09:45):
And Washington is not the first program to have this
happen to right, Like you know when Texas A and
M went to the SEC, that was the end of
Texas Texas A and M on Thanksgiving weekend for what
you know, a decade until now Texas is joining the
SEC and they can start that back up again. But
like we've seen Nebraska, Oklahoma.

Speaker 2 (10:05):
Go the way of the Dodo Bird over the.

Speaker 3 (10:07):
Years, like the backyard brawl pitt West Virginia, Like there's
a lot, there's a lot of great rivalries the conference
realignment has killed. I love the fact that they're continuing
to play it and make it a priority. That to
me is the most important thing, is that we continue
to get together and renew this thing year after year
because State's going to continue to have a good team

(10:29):
and it's gonna be chippy, it's gonna be fiery and competitive.
So I'm sad to see the loss of tradition. I'm
excited about the birth of the new tradition of And
this is just me coming from the Midwest and being
around Notre Dame sc and Ohio State, Michigan. But like

(10:51):
I love Washington Oregon now being in Week twelve where
it's got the potential, it's got the potential to be
like national doubleheader Ohio State, Michigan, Washington, Oregon. And when
you look at the last five years, I think Washington
and Oregon has been the best college football rivalry west
of Mississippi, and I don't really think it's close. And

(11:13):
so with that rivalry taking the momentum that it does
into the Big Ten Conference, that feels like a week
twelve game to me. And if we have to realign
and start new traditions, I'm really excited to see that
be a new tradition. But no doubt, like the Apple

(11:34):
Cup in September is weird. I'm weird with a capital purple.

Speaker 2 (11:38):
W that being said, that being said, I'm really glad
they're playing it.

Speaker 3 (11:44):
I'm glad both sides could agree to it, and I
do think it's going to have a new special intensity
and chippiness to it.

Speaker 4 (11:51):
Earlier you talked about the impressions of the new regime,
the new scheme, everything that goes into it. What was
it like being in the state him for this new
regime and for the fans, and did you fill the
energy with everything being new and how it is?

Speaker 2 (12:07):
I really did you know?

Speaker 3 (12:08):
I think sometimes those season openers against FCS schools can
be a little bit sleepy, and and then you kick
you off at eight pm and.

Speaker 2 (12:16):
It could be a lot of bit sleepy. I thought
there was.

Speaker 3 (12:18):
Great energy in that building, and I thought it was
a pretty good crowd, you know. I just think I
think Jed one of the things that he's so good at.
It's so easy to point to his x's and o's acumen,
his NFL credentials and his connections and and all of that,
and yes, that's all important, but I think Jed is

(12:41):
really good at selling a vision and then getting a
large group of people to buy into that vision. And
he did it at Arizona, and I think he's doing
it now here. And you know, when when you get
him around individuals and get him talking like people kind
of lap it up. And I think this fan base
the more and more they get to know Jed. And

(13:02):
I'm excited for the coach to show tonight at six
o'clock here on KJR because we're gonna, like continue to.

Speaker 2 (13:06):
Get to know him more.

Speaker 3 (13:07):
The more Husky Nation gets to know him, you know,
I think they're just gonna fall in love with the guy,
and you know it's gonna it's gonna be the kind
of thing that you want to go out there and support,
and I think we saw great support.

Speaker 2 (13:20):
In Week one.

Speaker 3 (13:21):
And it's it's interesting too, like with that Apple Cup
being at Loomin Field and having five big ten road games,
we only get six home games, right, and it's like
you get in that stadium, the greatest setting, and like
you only get six of these things. And so, yeah,
I know it's Weaver State. Yeah I know it's eight o'clock,
but like, you know, if if you pass on this,

(13:43):
like you don't get many rain checks, right, Like, so.

Speaker 2 (13:46):
Let's go out there, let's fill up that stadium.

Speaker 3 (13:48):
And let's have a great time every time we.

Speaker 2 (13:50):
Get the opportunity too.

Speaker 1 (13:51):
Tony Cashcronk was the familiar voice of the Huskies, joining
us here on the Beacon Plumbing Hotline time about Washington
thirty five Weaver State three on the service, Tony, it
looks like all is great, nothing to worry about. But
I'm sure I had no coaches that Jedfish has something
that has the player's attention this week, anything concerning or
anything you'd think he's circling to improve on.

Speaker 3 (14:12):
Well, you know, so, I mean, these guys are so
new playing together and thirty five to three is great.
But you know, I mean, I think they all said
it after the press conference. I think the messaging was,
this should be our worst game of the season right now.

Speaker 2 (14:26):
This is a baseline. We build upon this, and I
think they're all pretty serious about that.

Speaker 3 (14:30):
I mean, they're still extremely young on the offensive line,
got a lot of building to do there. I want
to talk like zoomed out bigger picture about the kind
of trap game that Eastern Michigan is. You know, you
have the excitement of the opener, you got the Apple
Cup looming. Any Eastern Michigan, from Washington's perspective, is the
most random opponent in the world to be flying out

(14:53):
from two thousand miles away. And truthfully, like I say
this with all due spect, Eastern Michigan might be the
worst program in the FBS as far as tradition and history,
like just none of it whatsoever until their current head coach,
Chris Creighton came along and Chris Creighton of course had

(15:15):
Kaitlin Divoris his offensive coordinator, and they went from one
to eleven to two and ten to seven and six,
and now they are perennially in a bowl game. They're
they're scrapping and calling for the Max Championships. And from
twenty seventeen to twenty nineteen, all three years they went
on the road and they they're big ten road game,
Like they beat Purdue, they beat Rutgers, they beat Illinois,

(15:38):
and like, I mean, they're actually the team that sent
Herm Edwards to the unemployment line. Like they're the team
that came out and beat Arizona State. Right, So, like
they are tough, they are physical. They're more of a
defensive team than they are offensive. But you cannot sleep
on a team that you've never heard of in Eastern

(15:58):
Michigan because these guys, guys are they have become a
solid mid major program. They got one of the really
good coaches in college football who's just been kind of
content to hang there.

Speaker 2 (16:12):
He's in year eleven now, and yeah.

Speaker 3 (16:15):
This is not one to just kind of like put
your feet up and you know, you know, bring the
wine and cheese, crowd out. You know, you still got
to be Husky Nation, You still got to get loud
on third down because Eastern Michigan can be tricky.

Speaker 1 (16:28):
They beat UMass twenty eight fourteen on the road Saturday,
and they're over tucked into ipsil Ani, Michigan. There right
next to ann Arbor. So yeah, it is easy right
next to ann Arbor.

Speaker 3 (16:37):
When we played at Michigan a couple of years ago,
I had dinner in Ipsilany. Like that's how much it's
in the shadow of the Big House. I mean it's
right there, you know. So it's wild.

Speaker 1 (16:48):
Tony Kashakana, let's enjoy the rest of your labor day
and get ready for the coaches show. As you mentioned
with Jedfish tonight on ninety three point three KGr, thanks
a lot for joining us. Have a good day, all right,
Thanks Ellis, Thank you. Tony any cash a Cone, the
voice of the Huskies called the thirty five to three
win Saturday night over. Weaver stayed here on ninety three
point three KGRFM, and again Eastern Michigan comes to Husky

(17:09):
Stadium at twelve thirty on Saturday. You know what I
forgot to do ras him? No, I forgot to play
the audio of Softis Angle Gooogs and having him react
to that. Oh you did.

Speaker 4 (17:18):
I'll have to when we get him on again, I'll
have to play that right now. I'm not gonna do that.

Speaker 1 (17:22):
I'll do you know what i'll do.

Speaker 4 (17:23):
I'll have it before we get into our text, because
I'm sure a lot of Husky fans would love to
hear soft They say, go Koogs.

Speaker 1 (17:29):
That was a moment of weakness on Friday, wasn't it? Then?

Speaker 4 (17:31):
He other nerve, Ah, you know it's whatever held, We'll
see a week three, So go Hoogs.

Speaker 1 (17:37):
He might live to regret that the more we play that.
Oh yeah, absolutely. Starting in a few minutes, he fourtnight
four or five one to tell him we're do text
line at Chris just mentioned we're going to read back
your text next night. Threw out the question when the
last time you were in a bar at eight am?
Like I was in Pullman on Saturday. That's gonna take
me if I'm getting old, man, that's all I can say.
I'm getting old. But yeah, a lot of people texting

(17:58):
in about World Cup soccer, George and Dragon Pub. Yeah,
that makes a lot of sense. Last college bar might
have been a more specific question, LA's college bar you
were at eight am? And where was it and what
the conditions were. We'll read back your text next On
ninety three point three KJRFMOS Live from the R.

Speaker 5 (18:15):
And R Foundation Specialist Broadcast studio. Now back to the
Great Bell Show with Christopher Kidd on Your Home for
the Huskies and the Crucking Sports Radio ninety three point
three KJR FM.

Speaker 1 (18:30):
Hi, welcome back. Yeah, that was the voice of Dave
Softy Maler yelling great coops. Chris got him. I don't know,
I can't remember the context. How do you got him
to say that?

Speaker 4 (18:41):
I was joking and trying to get him to follow
my lead. Spell out everything I was doing. Oh, that's right, yeah,
and he was doing it. And then he stopped that
CEO and was like what he' talking about Colorado? And
I'm like no, and he's like ah, and he was like, Okay,
I don't care, go kops. I didn't play you guys.
Oh we played week three.

Speaker 1 (18:58):
Whatever. He'll care next week. Yes, As you get closer
and closer, we'll probably say, hey, I need you to
cut that off. But remember the Apple Cup is September
fourteenth at Luminfield. Get used to that. At least this week.
You know what time it is, what the music tells you.
It's time to read back your text and to tell
them we'll do text line at four nine four five one.

Speaker 4 (19:16):
Yes, And where do we start Greg opened the show
with a great question, have you found yourself at a
bar at eight thirty am?

Speaker 1 (19:23):
And of course that's the thing, right people do it.
I'm surprised, I many the couple said this morning.

Speaker 4 (19:29):
From the two six surprise you came back, Greg, Yeah,
hell of a time it was. I'm sure Greg thought about,
you know, maybe I could spend a few more days
out here in the police like Moscow, Idaho too.

Speaker 1 (19:39):
Went to the Breakfast club yesterday, went mountain biking at
Moscow Mountain, which is a great network of mountain bike
trails up in about thirty minutes outside of town. Yeah,
you're right about coming back. I'm the reason I'm here
is talking to you right now and going to the
Seahawks after this. From the four to two five, Greg,
last few times I was in a bar at eight
thirty A. I was watching World Cup soccer. Good stuff

(20:03):
Maple Crown Royal Go was great with pancakes and Bikerman
Maple crowd. You just pour it right on top of
the pancakes. At that point, I would assume that's probably
the way to go right there.

Speaker 4 (20:13):
It is from the nine seven one, I would rather
go to a bar after the game not before. I'd
rather be in a bar from ten to eleven pm
to two thirty three am eight am.

Speaker 1 (20:24):
No way, it was a thing, that's for sure. It
was the same.

Speaker 4 (20:30):
Let's see from the four two five Paradise Paradise Brew
Pub is a favorite. Yes, it's by the police station
courthouse down so you've been there, Greg.

Speaker 1 (20:40):
No, I know where it is and I know the restaurant.
Send it right now. In Pullman, it's absolutely torn up
down there on the main drag and you can't even
get down there. You have to park and walk somewhere.
So we stayed on the backside with my son's apartment
land the lands up there you know where that is
Chris back in the new uh Inner mural fields. But yeah,
the downtown area, the main core Cypress restaurant is there.

(21:00):
My my wife really likes Cyper's restaurant. That's all just
the street's completely torn out. A little bit of bad
civic planning to have that going on while the school's
back in sessions. Yeah, that figured out by now. From
the two oh six.

Speaker 4 (21:13):
Last time they were up that early for a bar
setting was that for a Sea Oars game. They were
down over at Hooverville, Ah.

Speaker 1 (21:23):
Another place you know of Greg. Yeah, that's the south
of the yard, right or that's south of the baseball park.
As you can see, I don't be a bar as much.
I'm old. Now I'm like, I'm great, you're not as
old as I am. True. True.

Speaker 4 (21:37):
From the two five to three, someone's saying they are
right at the bar this morning. Softeen, that's scary. That
is very that's early and scary to say the least.
And then our friend Teddy ball game, he has done
an Indian canyon in Spokane around with his brother hashtag
go Koog's so Teddy ball game's not wasting much time.
He's getting right to the golf. He's probably playing right now.

(21:58):
Still start out with so yeah, sure, definitely getting not
even out of the front nine yet. Yes, that is
probably accurate. Let's see, oh love. When you Hawk fans
guarantee a win, usually poetic. I'm not a Hawk fan,
by the way, but I think they're better than the Broncos.
I think that's cird to say yourself.

Speaker 1 (22:18):
Ask fan, no, born and raised here, born and raised here,
but was a fan? Not anymore.

Speaker 4 (22:25):
But nonetheless, I do think the Seas win I think
they're the better roster. It's not as if I'm breaking
any news here. I agree with you there, am I
breaking any news?

Speaker 1 (22:33):
I agree with you there? Roster players.

Speaker 4 (22:35):
Yeah, sorry for thinking they should beat the team in
the Denver Broncos who Bo Nicks at their starting Yeah.

Speaker 1 (22:41):
Let's just be frank, if anybody's playing at home against
the rookie quarterback in his first NFL game, you should
win that. Just there. Forget the rest of the matchups
and roster. If you got a rookie quarterback starting on
the road in week one, you have to win that game.

Speaker 4 (22:55):
I don't know, just me. Let's see, this is from
our friend real Rob.

Speaker 1 (23:00):
What's up?

Speaker 4 (23:00):
Guys, who do you think is going to have the
highlight of the first game this weekend?

Speaker 1 (23:06):
Hmmm?

Speaker 4 (23:08):
I would this is I would say, you know what,
I'll go with Kim Walker.

Speaker 1 (23:13):
Yeah, I'll go with highlight of the entire totality of
the day or a highlight play the highlight. I think
he could do both. Yeah, I'll go with Ken What
about you? DK Metcalf all right down the seam, Oh,
write down the numbers, play action, maybe even not that,
just drop back where's there will be a time in
this game that Gino Smith connects with DK Metcalf, we're

(23:35):
about a fifty yard in the air connection yards have
to catch for a touchdown. That's my prediction.

Speaker 4 (23:41):
And lastly, which rookie from rob again, which rookie do
you think is going to have the breakout season.

Speaker 1 (23:47):
For the Seahawks. It's easy, I guess to pick one guy,
mister Murphy Byron Murphy. Again, I didn't see anybody on
anybody's offensive line, Seattle's, Tennessee's Chargers, Cleveland's block him. Now
I know his preseason and but some of those were starters.
I know the Seahawks guys were starters. Yeah, couldn't block him.

(24:08):
We'll see who how Denver goes. But so far four teams,
i've seen nobody's blocking them, not consistently. I mean they
fucked him on a player two. But when he wants
to get in the backfield, he gets there. We'll see
you have Denver's best against him.

Speaker 4 (24:22):
This is from the three six sol in twenty ten.
I remember going to the Gorge or is it the
George Gorge at George? Okay, well we're gonna the Dragon
and Dragon Pub and Fremont, Oh so it is the George,
the George and Dragon. Yes, there you go. Okay, just
make it sure because I'm like, I'm pretty sure there
is a Gorge and I know how to spell that.
But this is the George and Dragon Pub and Fremont

(24:42):
multiple times around five am, five, between five am and
six am to watch the world.

Speaker 1 (24:48):
Oh god, that was so early.

Speaker 4 (24:50):
I I know the only time I got up early.
I guess I didn't leave the house and go to
a bar. But what was it? Three years ago or
two years ago? They played the Buccaneers in Germany and
that game was I want to say six am here
or seven local?

Speaker 1 (25:04):
Oh my god, I was so mad. That was a
six seven pm Germany time. Yeah, Greg, you were in Germany.
Yeah that was all day for that guy. I bet
you did.

Speaker 4 (25:14):
I'm over here at six am, like this is stupid. Yeah,
who who thought this? I don't want to be up
at six am watching anything, let alone football.

Speaker 1 (25:21):
Do you know why they started at that time? Because
the NFL decided that their Europe games are going to
go into the early early window nine am Eastern before
the one o'clock games get going. Oh okay, so that's
why they put it there. I mean, they could have
easily played that at nine pm, eight pm Germany time,
which would have been more like what eleven am here? Okay,
something around there, But they didn't want to go right

(25:42):
in the middle and gum up the one and four
o'clock windows East Coast time.

Speaker 4 (25:46):
What about guys that have to wake up in the
morning with me and so many other folks fans at
member of the United States and New York's mind where
all the decisions are made for the NFL networks.

Speaker 1 (25:55):
The United States stops at the Hudson River. We've talked
about that.

Speaker 4 (26:01):
That's crazy, but nonetheless all right, A lot of times
from the two five to three, A lot of times
I am at the bar at Eddie and because I
fly most of the night. Go Army, Go Army. I'm kidding.
Go air Force, Beat Army. I just want to throw
that out there to you set it here with that
Air Force. I just try to be far in Atlantic
at in Miami. Get this week for the Army team
to pride and dream of every heart and gray. Oh

(26:22):
familiar text Travis Texas in early kid, I was a
bullet on that five bed with Juli on Friday.

Speaker 1 (26:30):
I am so mad. I didn't take that bet.

Speaker 4 (26:32):
He smacked it and I thought, oh my gosh, someone
hit me on the on Twitter and was like, you
probably should have made that beat.

Speaker 1 (26:38):
Kid.

Speaker 4 (26:39):
Hey man, don't help on my timeline after the fact.
If anything, you know, maybe you could done it a
couple hundred dollars and we could win some money together,
if that's how you feeling.

Speaker 1 (26:48):
But yeah, I was.

Speaker 4 (26:49):
I'm not gonna lie when I asked you on air, Greg,
hey should I do this?

Speaker 1 (26:52):
And you're like, Hey, you know, I don't. I mean,
if you want to, I'm just trying to save you.
But yeah, you would. I would have. But that's like
a needle and a stack. Bet there. You gotta get
hoty eleven the whole season.

Speaker 4 (27:04):
But what what if you what did you say if
they're going to make any type of run, who was
going to be the number one guy? And not that
he's making this run, but I mean he did did
a home run, so that could that.

Speaker 1 (27:13):
Might have only game of the series they won. Okay,
Well on that note, I'm just saying they win.

Speaker 4 (27:20):
The mayor is not here today. You know why? You
don't know?

Speaker 1 (27:24):
Do I can imagine it's Labor Day, that's one reason
he's working from home today, son of a gun? Are
you kidding me? Exactly? Yeah. I should have never given
up that remote equipment to him last week, and now
he's got the option.

Speaker 4 (27:36):
They probably going to crack up when you bring that up, Like, hey,
if I had never and pitched that idea. Yeah, so
the mayor is okay, So the Maple.

Speaker 1 (27:44):
Valley edition of the Furness he's going to be. That
has to be fun. You could watch home from work
today for one of the only times of the year,
and I could be home with her doing remote live broadcast,
which would be interesting.

Speaker 4 (27:56):
Well, if when Ian Forness kills it, maybe, yeah, just
maybe we can make this happen for a lot more folks.
But since he's not worth this, we'll uh, we'll toss
it to him.

Speaker 1 (28:07):
All right. So he's custard, he's soft served. I'm surprised
I thought he'd joined us in here. I had to
like scale the building to get in here because there's
nobody here it. I did like a Spider Man deal
to get inside this place today. Nobody here. Andrews Hurst
is here. Jessmin McIntyre, who I saw on the sidelines
in Pullman. She had a long Cougs red pullover on.

(28:29):
I looked at her and went ninety five degrees and
she says she's trying not to get sunburned.

Speaker 4 (28:33):
Well, it's called sunset, you know. I'm turning to mynd
mic Off. Okay in for Neest from Maple Valley, not
from the studio here. We'll join us next A ninety
three point three KJRFM.

Speaker 1 (28:51):
Hi, welcome back, Greg Meller, News Stribune and Christopher Kate
with you. Happy Labor Day Monday to you. I'm finishing
writing my story for the Newstribute dot com about the
Seahawks have their new third quarterback in from the Minnesota Vikings.
Jaron Hall, the round pick out a BYU last year,
actually started two games for Minnesota as a rookie when
Kirk Cousins got injured. He won a game at Atlanta

(29:13):
for Minnesota, and then he lost at home in a
start against Green Bay. He was on the fifty three
man roster for the Vikings last week initially and then
got waived on a roster move. So now the Seahawks
get him clearing waivers and get him on the practice
squad as their third quarterback. Behind of course, started Gino
Smith and Sam Howe. And now it's time for the

(29:35):
great Mayor in Maple Valley. I in for Neess. Coming
off a seventy point coop weekend. You were like twenty
years old the last time they scored seventy points in
When was the last time? Nineteen ninety seven? Uh, it's
twenty thirty two, thirty two. I was thirty two. Man,
that's been a mitte nineteen ninety seven quarterback. Who was that?

(29:57):
Oh God, host Ryan Leaf?

Speaker 6 (29:59):
Yeah, would have burnball made.

Speaker 2 (30:01):
I don't even know.

Speaker 1 (30:02):
It was against Southwest Louisiana, by the way, I was,
I was what like like that was it forty points
at halftime? It was Saturday, Yeah, it was forty nine
to ten. Yeah, okay, thirty yeah, so forty counting one
hundred and two yard interception return. Portland State's quarterback threw
the ball straight up in the air to the side
of the end zone. There was no one over there.
That defense back could have fair caught that pass.

Speaker 6 (30:24):
Just it's just it was, you know, I think he
put a beat. It was long before Jake Dickard got there.
But that coach Burnham, right, he was the guy that
came in and ran it. Up on and beat them
with with Alex Grinch's horrible defense back in twenty fifteen.

Speaker 1 (30:44):
I believe it was, and so I think I think
there was latent hard feelings. I don't know if it was, if.

Speaker 6 (30:51):
That was part of it. I'm sure that some people
reminded him of that. And they've played Portland State since,
but that that's a school and if they play Eastern again,
those schools won't get any mercy like they'll they'll, you know, they'll,
you guys, can you can live on your graces from
back then, but it's not going to be pretty.

Speaker 1 (31:07):
And I you know, I was weird though.

Speaker 6 (31:10):
They went three and out to.

Speaker 1 (31:11):
Start the game. They did, and then they gave up
a third and short run the guy broke five tackles
and getting fifty yards and all of a sudden it's
seven nothing little.

Speaker 6 (31:18):
Wake up club, which is good. Like, honestly, I thought
that was actually perfect because they had it like okay,
like we got to actually turn it on.

Speaker 2 (31:25):
A little bit, and and then they did.

Speaker 6 (31:28):
And now they've got a little stiffer opponent coming in
with Texas Tech this weekend, that's for sure. But it
was nice to watch the game.

Speaker 1 (31:34):
You were there. It was dude. Yeah, the difference between
the sideline that the big wigs and the best box
and where I was. Yeah, oh my god, goodness, I
was right next to the student section. The students section
was largely populated almost all the way to the top
at the beginning of the game and by the end
of the first quarter. Everything.

Speaker 6 (31:50):
I don't blame them either, it's it's you know, what's
an interesting year too, is that you know. I'd heard
from people. I don't know what what RV lots and
everything else looked like around town. I heard it was
a little light than normal, but they were there. But yeah,
they were. It's Portland State, it's Labor Day weekends. And honestly,
like I just talking to some Cougar fan, like I
it is such a strange world we're in right now,

(32:12):
like like are we what are we playing for? Like
I guess, you know, a good Bowl game, that's fine,
But it's weird when and it's not like yeah, I know,
like I can see the text coming in, well, you
guys will win, but like if you're not playing for
a conference championship, it's weird.

Speaker 1 (32:29):
It is like what's the incentive?

Speaker 6 (32:32):
Like basketball has one because basketball, if not honest, you're
not really playing for a conference.

Speaker 1 (32:37):
You're playing for you want.

Speaker 6 (32:39):
Sixty Four's is is what you want for most most
programs in the country. So I don't think David Riley
will have a hard time. And I think they're gonna
be a pretty good basketball team, to be honest with you.
But and I think it's a decent football team. But
what are you playing for?

Speaker 1 (32:50):
You know, they're already talking anecdotally, They're already talking about
the Apple Cup over there and the fact they get
Washington in two weeks, and the fact they can get
them before that Washington even gets going, and know who
the heck they are and what they have, Yeah, there
are that could make their season. I know that the
Coup's have bigger things to go on rest of the year.
But yeah, they beat you dub in two weeks.

Speaker 6 (33:10):
Oh, it'll be great if they can. And I'm you know,
it's you can't tell anything from week one.

Speaker 2 (33:15):
But but I I.

Speaker 6 (33:18):
I don't know anybody from that side of the state
that I'm friends with, honestly. And I got a lot
of booster friends wheat Farmers Apple Orchard guys, stuff I
went to school with and I don't know any of
them are going to the Apple compy. Yeah, like they're
just like, no, man, we're not going to give you know,
we're not spending two hundred and I know you can
get in cheaper now maybe what have you, But nobody
wants to spend those Those prices were stupid for a

(33:38):
game at lumin Field. That's you know, it's one thing
if you're renovating Husky Stadium, but they're not.

Speaker 1 (33:43):
Like a lot of my students, A lot of my
son's friends are going. He's going to actually get a
ride back and.

Speaker 6 (33:48):
Probably yeah, I think I think students have a little
different outlook than and they're from here, right, yeah, because
it's an excuse to go home, exactly right. And they've
been there since probably the first part of August, so
it's an excuse for them to go home for for
the bitter old men like yeah, no, I'm good, I'll
see you A couple of Texas Tech will be a
good test, and it'll also be a good test to
see what kind of enthusiasmic fan you know, support they
get for that game too.

Speaker 1 (34:09):
And the kup told me I was in the coup.
I told you eight thirty in morning. Yeah, they told me.
They actually were joking with me, the koog people, the
bartenders and the staff. You're going to be here this
time next week. I say, what are you talking about
to seven o'clock kick? Oh, we're gonna be opening at
eight am. Oh my goodness, man, can you imagine.

Speaker 6 (34:25):
That's a long set. That's a long that's a long session.
A lot of those of us in their diehards, man,
I don't know if I do that. I don't know
if I could do that. I'll be honest with you.

Speaker 1 (34:34):
I had a hard time with just at the noon
start at seven pm started. Yeah, that's a that's a
long set. Did you get to the fieldhouse? Yes, I did,
Thank you for the tip. Yeah, got the band pre game. Yeah,
it's fun. My son has a friend in the band,
and yeah, it was fun. And I will tell you
the band appreciate the fact that that new football facility
is built in behind the end zone because that's where
the shade was.

Speaker 6 (34:55):
Yes, the students on a metal bleacher at one point
thirty in the afternoon when it's a thirty nine point game,
and I heard I supposed to be criticizing them, like really.

Speaker 1 (35:04):
Like you criticized, I was there. Let me take it's
a scrimmage untill halftime.

Speaker 6 (35:10):
Yeah, it's a scrimmage.

Speaker 2 (35:11):
At that point, we're done, Yeah, out of here.

Speaker 1 (35:13):
So yeah, what do you in the holiday edition of.

Speaker 6 (35:15):
This, Well, we're gonna we'll do a little holiday version
of hardcore football with Hugh just to kind of get
everybody ready to go for the Seahawks game on Sunday.
And then I think we all need a little mollywop,
don't we after that weekend by the local baseball team. Well,
you call it what you will, sir, you you call
it what you will. We'll get Nathan and Chris fired up,

(35:37):
pissed off at the world. That's always the best molly wop.
So they'll be with us at one o'clock. Mike Sando
from the Athletic his weekly visit, will join us. He's
his new columns out, uh talking about schedules and quarterbacks
and what to look forward to this NFL season. So
he'll join us at two o'clock. And we got a
lot of other things too. Plus we gotta talk a
lot about Factor Fiction, which starts tomorrow.

Speaker 1 (35:59):
You show, yeah for our show. Yeah, you can ask you.
Millan about Billy Napier and his experience. It's a swamp
on Saturday that didn't go well.

Speaker 6 (36:06):
Yeah, I'm not gonna ask that.

Speaker 1 (36:08):
You saw Cam Warren's comments about the Yeah, Pact twelve
is where the real football is. This wasn't even nearly
as loud as watching That's pretty funny. Actually, that's just
a total dig at the arrival. I love it. Go
get him camp.

Speaker 7 (36:20):
He had a nice game too, so oh gosh y
So we had all coming up today. Awesome, the Infines, Thanks,
You're welcome. The Infnest will be on your show, on
your air, in your ears from twelve to three. I'm

Greg Bell the News, tributing Christopher Kidds, thanking you for

(36:41):
spending part of your holiday with us. Tomorrow, Factor Fiction Tuesday,
Well eleven thirty five am is when We're gonna do it.
Seven thirty five am will be the first Factor Fiction
with Chuck and Buck. The Infnest is next on ninety
three point three KJRFM.
