Speaker 1 (00:00):
Weekend of football. Locally, everyone wants the Seahawks to play
because the college teams didn't do it this weekend. Washington
at Rutgers. We'll talk about that a little bit. We'll
talk about Washington State going to Boise State and hanging
with Boise for a couple quarters until Johnty just took
off and I mean he might be a Heisman Trophy
winner the way he runs. What a what a performance
(00:23):
he had. We'll talk about the Mariners. They finished out
of the running of the playoffs again. Of course, they
won three in a row against Oakland to finish the
regular season and still not make the playoffs. The Sounders
are going back to the MLS Western Conference playoffs four nine,
four to five one. To tell them, we'll do text
line when it's game time. It's totly time. We'll read
back your text at eleven thirty. That'll be after we
(00:46):
talked to Dave Briquette the Detroit News, a Lions beat writer,
a game day edition of the Seahawks opponent. Look at
the opponent. The Lions come in a night without their
top center, whether the top centers in the league. Frank
Ragnow will not play it looks like their tight end
though Matt Laporter will play. He was injured all week,
but it looks like the Lions will have one of
their receiving options Marcus Davenport, one of the Lions' top
(01:08):
pass rushers. Next day. Hutchinson will not play, maybe out
for a long time. A couple injuries that the Lions
are dealing with. We'll talk to Da Briquette at eleven
o'clock in the Beacon Plumbing Hotline.
Speaker 2 (01:16):
Eleven thirty five, Factor Fiction.
Speaker 1 (01:19):
Your chance to win one thousand dollars from the Emeral
Queen Casino, the bedding capital of the Northwest. Our chance
to give you a chance to win one thousand dollars
comes up at eleven thirty five. How do we do, Chris?
How do we do this weekend?
Speaker 3 (01:31):
Not too bad? Not too great? We went two and three,
so we are now tied and then second place.
Speaker 2 (01:39):
Ah, who was in first, I believe.
Speaker 3 (01:42):
In first is now the mayor because they won every
single game last week. Yeah, yep, they were a fact
on everything. Oh, I lost on the Jets, you lost
on U dub and Indianapolis and Pitt taking it under.
Speaker 1 (01:58):
The under forty didn't quite work. Out in the second half.
Speaker 2 (02:01):
No half, I was kind of concerned. I was.
Speaker 3 (02:03):
I was thinking, Man, that's a tough one. You were
right about that, you were right about the freaking Jets.
My goodness. Ten nine the Jets lose.
Speaker 1 (02:12):
And did you see where Bonnicks set an NFL record
for the fewest yards with the most completions. Yeah, he
is twenty three completions.
Speaker 2 (02:21):
For sixty yards. It was even. That's even more than
conduct than they were in Week one here.
Speaker 3 (02:26):
That's hard to do. I think I don't know how that.
You might as well just run the football, man. I
think if he ran it twenty times, he could probably
get one hundred yards if they just said, hey, we're
gonna drop you back and we're just gonna run QB
draw every time.
Speaker 2 (02:39):
I feel as if he could probably do that. He
just can't throw.
Speaker 1 (02:44):
Well, they won't let him throw apparently. I mean, if
he's throwing those, they can't be throwing all those passes
on his own.
Speaker 3 (02:50):
Yeah, that's that's tough to do. That is insane. He
threw a touchdown, though, I'll give him that. How far
was it, dah, I should look it up. I would
guess the air yards probably over fifteen five.
Speaker 2 (03:02):
Again yards on twenty three completions.
Speaker 3 (03:04):
And guess what his leading receiver, Guess how many yards
he had, Courtland Sutton. He had sixty three receptions for
sixty yards, so.
Speaker 1 (03:13):
The other twenty completions were for no yards.
Speaker 2 (03:15):
Well, I remember checking in on the game.
Speaker 3 (03:17):
At one point he was at three attempts, three passes
for negative eight yards.
Speaker 2 (03:22):
If I'm not mistaken, I don't know how that happened.
Speaker 3 (03:25):
Obviously the screens weren't working, but yeah, there I checked
early on in the game and he had thrown for
negative something yards. And I'm thinking, this is the craziest
that I've ever seen.
Speaker 1 (03:36):
Uh and the Broncs of one two in a row
doing that.
Speaker 3 (03:39):
Man, I don't know if that says a lot about
the New York Jets and their defense or I just
I don't have words.
Speaker 2 (03:45):
That's really crazy.
Speaker 3 (03:46):
But they won. A win's a win. If there's a
W in that column, that's all that matters.
Speaker 1 (03:50):
Yeah, that's right, they did win.
Speaker 2 (03:52):
They're two and two. Look at that.
Speaker 1 (03:53):
We'll talk about it around the NFL. I'm forty five.
By the way, Ian Fornas will join us before his
show of course every Day twelve to three Here on
ninety three point three KJRFM. Your headline is brought to
you by Frost Brood corch Choose chill. Let's just start
with the Mariners, because they're seasons over now. They won
three in a row to beat the A's. Friday, Saturday
and Sunday went Friday night forty one thousand in the
(04:15):
yard for fireworks night on a team the day after
they got eliminated, Chris, that is why. And I was
part of it, but my wife had a work function
for Children's hospital, and.
Speaker 2 (04:24):
I was watching all these people file in.
Speaker 1 (04:26):
For this game, and I said, this is why they
are what they are. Ownership has no incentive to change
their ways or spend more money or change anything about
their operation because they're profitable. Forty one thousand a day
after they got eliminated. Anyway, did you know, is Chris,
this is the third time in the last four years
that the Mariners have been the last team eliminated, the
(04:49):
best of the rest, the one team, the one team
on the outside looking in the closest to get to
the playoffs, but yet not make it. That's three out
of four years that they've been the last team in
the American League to be eliminated. Surprise.
Speaker 2 (05:01):
Yeah, it is now the.
Speaker 1 (05:02):
Best team, the best pitching staff, a World Series pitching
staff is going to watch the playoffs. There's not a
pitching staff in the playoffs better than the Seahawks, man,
I mean, sorry, the Marriors. Yeah, there's not a better
pitching staff, and yet here they are.
Speaker 2 (05:19):
Oh, when you don't have any offense, this is what happens.
Speaker 1 (05:23):
Amazing. The Washington Huskies went to Rutgers on Friday night.
I thought they were gonna give it the coleman more
times than they did because he was doing well. But
they couldn't tackle Rutgers lead running back in the penalties.
The first drive of the game, the center blocks a
poor cornerback and then when the corners on the ground,
(05:43):
he head butts him. I mean penalties like that. Man,
that's that's a lack of discipline. That doesn't reflect very
well on j dead Fish and a new coaching staff.
Husky's a three and two with one of the best
offensive in terms of efficiency and one of the best
defenses in terms of efficiency in the country. Get their
three and two. They have Michigan coming in four thirty
(06:06):
at Husky Stadium. On Saturday Night one thirty pre game
show with Dave Softy Moller and the Husky Hanks, Tony
Cashercon cam cleonand I'll have to play by play at
four point thirty. Here on ninety three point three KJRFM,
we mentioned the Washington State Huskies. Chris's boys come on,
Chris seventeen tenths, seventeen tad game, third quarter, it's fourth
and won at their own what twenty seven and he
(06:28):
went for it after his offensive line was just getting
man handled. Not that not that they would have stopped Jaunty,
but they weren't gonna win after that decision. Yeah, twenty
seven yard touchdown draft for boys, stay two score game
game over.
Speaker 2 (06:45):
Yeah, in a game like that, it's you gotta go
for it. I get it.
Speaker 3 (06:48):
But there's nothing they could do. They couldn't stop John Day.
So if they get it, yay, they might score. They
might get him field position to put some points on
the board. But when they have no answer for probably
be the Heisman. This guy can probably win the Heisman.
I don't know what, dude.
Speaker 1 (07:05):
A touchdown run was incredible.
Speaker 2 (07:06):
He had he had a couple of.
Speaker 1 (07:07):
Them, Okay, one in the late third quarter.
Speaker 3 (07:11):
This dude, right right, all I could think is I'm
the joggingnaut and you guys know the rest.
Speaker 2 (07:16):
So yeah, he was.
Speaker 3 (07:18):
He was a monster. I can't wait to see. I
can't wait to read The Beast by Dame Brugler from
The Athletic as you prepare for the twenty twenty five
NFL Draft. I can't wait to read what he's seen
from this kid and how his strengths and all his stories.
I just can't wait to read that, because right now,
I think the dude has thirteen touchdowns if I'm not mistaken.
Speaker 2 (07:36):
Yes, he does for the other night, right, Yeah, and
he's sane. Boys State some only played four games.
Speaker 3 (07:42):
Yeah, this dude's got thirteen touchdowns. If he stays healthy,
he's probably gonna have thirty touchdowns.
Speaker 1 (07:47):
Yeah. He was leaping over guys, spinning, bouncing off.
Speaker 2 (07:51):
I don't know if that's as bad as the defense is,
or he's just that.
Speaker 1 (07:54):
Way he's doing everybody. He was doing it to Oregon
and then they stopped giving him the ball at the
end of the game.
Speaker 2 (07:58):
Or Boise State would have won it Notts Stadium a
couple of weeks ago. What a talent.
Speaker 1 (08:02):
Oh, I know, you're right. I mean Boise State guy
winning the Heisman Trophy wouldn't exactly thrill the big TENNESSEEC
guys right now, he's the most deserving for sure. The
Seahawks here in Detroit are going to play without four
key guys. You might as well call him four starters
on defense. I call Byron Murphy a starter. He gets
started like reps. He's not gonna play because of his hamstring.
(08:24):
Leonard Williams is not going to play a night against
the Lions because of his rib issue that he got
last week against Miami, and then the two top two
outside linebackers and Chenna Wosu came back to practice Wednesday.
I made a big deal out about it because he
hadn't practiced in a month since the sprain knee, and
he didn't practice much the rest of the week. He
is out tonight. Boye Mafe, who played with an injured
(08:46):
knee last week. He injured that knee in Week two
in New England while getting a sack or two. He
had two sacks of his three in the season that game.
Then he didn't practice last week and still played against Miami.
He's the co leader in sacks with darry Hall. He's
not playing either because of that knee issue, So it's
going to be Derek Hall and Trevis Gibson most likely
(09:07):
at outside linebackers. Gibson hasn't played more than seventeen snaps
since they acquired him in the trade from Jacksonville last month.
I'd go nickel. I bet they're gonna do a lot
of nickel in three safeties with Kevon Coleman Nickel, with
Witherspoon inside, Trey Brown outside. The danger doing that, of
course against the Lions, Chris is if you go a
lot of nickel, they're just gonna run, and they'll run
(09:29):
Jamar Gibbs, and they will run David Montgomery at the
lone nose tackle they have on the active roster Jonathan Hankins,
a Detroit guy, and test the fact that Byron Murphy's
not there, test the fact that they are depleted at linebacker.
It's going to be a chess match to see how
many times the Seahawks can get away with Leeta Nickel
or extra defensive backs tonight and how much Detroit runs
(09:52):
against it.
Speaker 3 (09:53):
It's going to I think it's going to work in Detroit.
Lions favor Yeah, and unless Spoon has as what you
remember what Julian Love did against the Denver Broncos. That is,
basically he's gonna have to have that type of performance
in the run defense. He's gonna have to be there
making plays because I'm unsure if Mike Morris Jonathan Hagen's
(10:14):
gonna play a lot of snaps on tonight, Miles Adams
is probably gonna get some burn, Derek Hall's gonna.
Speaker 1 (10:20):
Have to be really really good.
Speaker 3 (10:21):
A lot of these dudes are gonna be playing a
lot a lot, a lot a lot, and there's gonna
be gaping holes, I think at times, just because you're
missing two of your studs, and Leonard Williams and Byron
Murphy who have been playing pretty well on the run
and they are important pieces to this run defense. And
when there's lanes now you're asking your linebackers to make
play guys in the secondary and Numero Uno. Usually Devin
(10:45):
Witherson's always there and that's what he loves to do.
And I think he's gonna have an opportunity tonight to
really prove that he can do a lot more, especially
when guys are down. I think the run game is
going to be strong for the Lions. I'm hoping it's not.
But unless my Morris, Jonathan Hankins, Miles Adams and those
guys can really fill in the role of what Leonard
Williams and Byron Murfin have been bringing, it's gonna be tough.
(11:07):
Not to mention, you Tendan Nwosu, who was out and
everyone I know a lot of people thought he was
going to be available for this Monday night matchup, especially
because the Seahaws didn't put him on IR to begin
the season. You were thinking, Okay, yeah, he'll be ready
for Week four for sure, but he's not available. So
now you're relying on Draymont Jones, who's been up and down.
I'm sure Trevis Gibson's gonna get some burn as well.
So it really comes down to the other guys stepping
(11:30):
up and doing their job, and if they do it well,
the Lions could struggle. But that Lion's offensive line is really,
really good, and I just don't see it letting up
and struggling much against this depleted D line right now
with Leonard Williams out, Byron Murphy. And then, not to mention,
you're tennant Wolfsu, who hasn't played at all this season.
Speaker 1 (11:50):
And boy mafay also.
Speaker 2 (11:52):
I keep forgeting boy, Yeah, yeah, I would.
Speaker 1 (11:53):
Think Ben Johnson, the offensive coordinator for the Lions, who
interviewed for the Seahawks jobs that went to Mike McDonald,
I would think he's gonna run the ball. They don't
have rag Now tonight, one of the best centers in
the NFL will not play. But as Chris mentioned, the
Lions have one of the best offensive lines even without
rag Now, and they are probably coming right at And
I talked to Hankins last week and retting about that,
and he said, yeah, they're coming right at us. He
(12:13):
knows that. He also knows he's going to play the
most he's played yet. And I have a couple dozen people.
He's from Dearborn Heights, about twenty minutes from where the
night's game is gonna be played. Here, A couple dozen
people gonna be there, he joked it. They all want
to be on the fifty yard line and they don't
realize that they're all on the three hundred level up
in the roof because the visiting team gets those tickets
for the home team gets the tickets downstairs. But yeah,
(12:36):
big challenge tonight. Of course Kenneth Walker is playing. That
was the big news on Saturday, and he's a bitch.
Speaker 2 (12:42):
I'm sorry, Ken, I apologize Faith. I just couldn't put
you in there.
Speaker 1 (12:46):
Man.
Speaker 3 (12:47):
I just I'm sorry. Don't take it personal. If you're listening,
I'm sure he won't. Kenneth Walker will play.
Speaker 1 (12:54):
I would expect that some of the third down snaps
that usually go to him will go to Zach Charbonnay,
but expect now that he's back that Kenneth Walker will
get a central theme of the offensive game plan Tonight
or Ryan grab again Seahawks Lions, and kickoff is at
five fifteen Seattle time at Fordfield. It's going to be
absolutely rock They're already tailgating down there. They were showing
(13:14):
under Detroit news news channels of sporting. They're already tail
getting downtown. Not even a workday for some people here
in Michigan. They Bajor League Baseball playoffs begin tomorrow. Get this, Chris,
The Braves and Mets have to play a double header
today to decide the final two wildcard teams in the
National League.
Speaker 2 (13:34):
Wouldn't you went there for the Mariners? Well?
Speaker 1 (13:36):
Yeah, but get this if they Yeah, of course, we
would they play at midnight and wherever they try to
get in the plass at this point. But get this,
if the Braves and Mets split today, both teams are
in Arizona's out. If either team sweeps, that team that
sweeps is in, and the Diamondbacks make it. There is
zero incentive for the team that wins game one of
(13:58):
the doubleheader that starts this morning, Seattle time, this afternoon
here on the East Coast. There's zero team for the
team that wins game one of the Braves Mets doubleheader
to win game two. So you would think you would
think that the Diamondbacks are done because, for instance, if
the Mets win, let's say the Mets win the game one,
they're not going to bring Edwin Diaz into closed Game two.
(14:19):
They're not going to have their starters playing because they
got to get on a plane and fly to Game
one of the playoffs tomorrow after playing a doubleheader today.
The Major League Baseball was not rooting for this scenario.
There was a rainout last week in Atlanta. The rains
were so heavy they couldn't play a game in the
two games in Atlanta, So they had this double header
that they were hoping they wouldn't have. They hoped the
(14:41):
Braves and Mets would have already clinched. And the Diamondbacks
kept winning, and they beat San Diego yesterday. San Diego
was already in the playoffs, and the Arizona winning yesterday
forced this scenario. So the Diamondbacks have to hope somebody
sweeps the other one when there's no incentive for the
team that wins game one to win games this recently
chance to get back in the playoffs. The Benning World
(15:03):
Series team from the National League that's already starting right
this hour in Atlanta. Mets it at the Braves. The
Sounders are back in the MLS playoffs there clutch the
Western Conference playoffs spot because they be Houston one nil
the other night. And the Kraken are finishing up their
preseason before their season opener here. I can't believe how
soon the NHL starts after training camp gets going, and
(15:28):
of course all the action on ninety three point three
KGRFM and CRACK and all season long. Mike Benton on
the pregame show in for nessaw on the television side
of the pregame show with the Crack and Television network
games are on King and Kong. If you missed it
over the air, crack and you don't need cable, you
don't need.
Speaker 2 (15:44):
Fubu, you don't need Hulu.
Speaker 1 (15:46):
You can actually if you still have antennas, put up
an antenna or just turn your TV on. If you
live in Seattle and Channel five, it's gonna have a
lot of the games crack and have over the air
this season. Eleven o'cock going talk to Dave Bercat. He
is of the Detroit News, the the Lions beat writer.
We talked to him during the offseason when we previewed
all the season opponents. Little bit's happened for the Lions
(16:08):
since thencluding some injuries, including to their center Frank Ragnow,
but the core of this team remains intact and it's
a super Bowl favorite. The Seahawks have their work cut
out for them tonight with four defensive starters out. As
we just mentioned, we're going to coming up. We're going
to talk about the key matchups in tonight's game. I
mentioned one of them already, with Jonathan Hankins in the
middle at nose tackle. Key matchups for the Seahawks and
(16:31):
their quest to win for the third time in three
seasons in Detroit. Gino Smith's gonna have a big hand
in that. Remember eleven thirty five Factor fiction sponsored by

(17:51):
At eleven thirty your text at four nine four five one.
I've already posited to you the listener be part of
the show by answering how worried are you for defensive
starters out for the Seahawks tonight eleven thirty five Factor
Fixtion your chance to win one thousand dollars from the
Emerald Queen Casino, Day one of five on the station
this week for five days of chances to win one
(18:12):
thousand dollars from the betting capital of the Northwest. I
mentioned those four starters out for the Seahawks. Two on
the defensive line, Leonard Williams will not play because of
the rib injury got against Miami last week. Top rookie
Byron Murphy will not play because of the hamstring issue
he got about a quarter after Williams did against the Dolphins.
And then the two top outside linebackers for Seattle. Boy
(18:33):
A mafe the cosack leader with three with Derek Hall,
will not play because of an e issue that he
actually got two games a go at New England and
played through against Miami and Chenno Wilsu was supposed to
make his season debut tonight, he will not. The Seahawks
did not put him on the injured reserve list when
they could have to start the season because they thought
he would be back for this game by week four.
(18:54):
US they would have put him on IR and he
missed the four weeks minimum that he would have been
on injured reserve, they could have saved the roster spot there,
so he was going to be back. He came back
to practice Wednesday for the first time of the month,
but his sprain medial collateral ligaments still not good enough
to practice throughout the week or to play tonight against Detroit.
And so we mentioned Travis Gibson has had this seventeen snaps.
(19:15):
That's his most he's had in a game so far.
That was last week against Miami. The trade they.
Speaker 2 (19:21):
Got from Jacksonville last week.
Speaker 1 (19:23):
He's going to play a lot tonight opposite Derek Hall
with Mafey and then will sue out. Coach Mike McDonald
talked Saturday before the team came here to Detroit about
this injury situation and what an opportunity he sees it
as for those who have to step in.
Speaker 5 (19:38):
I wouldn't say it's any different than I've got four
guys that are down. That's four more guys are going
to be up. Looking forward to seeing those guys play.
When you talk about having depth in your football team,
you want the feeling to be like, Okay, I can't
wait to see whoever's going to get that opportunity now.
So that's our view, is that guys are gonna have
more opportunities and they than they've usually had and looking
forward to seeing what they do.
Speaker 1 (20:00):
Chris, we haven't mentioned yet that Jerome Baker is questionable
to play because of his hamstring.
Speaker 2 (20:04):
He should not play. Okay, that's not we come on, man.
Speaker 3 (20:08):
This is he's had his hamstring injury, if I'm not mistaken,
since training camp. He needs to rest, he has to heal.
One hundred percent of hamstring is not something where you
can you know, I can probably go eighty no, because
all it takes is one explosive attempt to move left
or right latterally going forward, going backward, and you can
put yourself back in the same position you were in.
(20:30):
If he is not filling one hundred percent, he should
not play. It's not worth the risk. He's already missed
some time. Let's not continue piling on the time. I
would say, make sure you are one hundred percent healthy.
Hamstrings are nothing to play with, and go ahead. I'm
sorry you just mentioned him running latterly. That's how he
reheard it in New England.
Speaker 1 (20:51):
Yeah, it's just Jacobe Brissette got outside the pocket and
Jerome Baker sprinted across the formation to the sideline and
you could see I could see from the press box
it was in the second quarter him pull up and
he went out the next series and did not come back.
Tyree Knight is probably gonna start again at weak side linebacker.
And they liked what Drake Thomas did. He's usually a
(21:14):
special teams guy. He's taken John Radigan's roster spot. Essentially,
Drake Thomas has coming back from injury in the summer,
and now Drake Thomas stands to get more than the
one third snaps that he got last week. It was
more of a two third one third, with rookie Tyree Knight,
the fourth round pick from UTAP, getting about two thirds
of the snaps. But they really liked Drake Thomas last week,
and I bet he plays more than the one third
(21:34):
of the time that he had last week. But there's
another that's another. Yeah, they are going to need him,
and they are going to need more than just one
guy to fill in for Jerome Baker. As we expect
Baker doesn't play tonight, that'll be the real game time story,
the game time pregame news ninety minutes before kickoff. When
I get to the stadium, I'll be writing for the
Newstribune dot com about Jerome Baker and whether he plays
(21:55):
or not. Yet another member of the front seven for
the Seahawks that may not play it and that would
be five, five of the regular top seven that could
be out tonight against one of the best teams in
the NFC, a Super Bowl contender. So how did the
Seahawks do this? Well? One way? One key would be
for Gino Smith to do what he's done the last
(22:16):
two years here in Michigan, and that's just shoot lights
out Chris. He has had a passer rating of one
twenty three in the two victories that Seattle has scored
forty eight and thirty seven points in each of the
last two seasons one twenty three. For perspective, his career
passer rating Gino Smith for his entire career dating back
(22:37):
to the rookie year with the Jets eighty six, almost
fifty points higher in the last two games he's played
in Detroit that have become shootouts. If Gino Smith can
be anything like he was the last two times they've
played here, they've got a chance. He talked about this
week how this past week about how he loves the
environment here. And I've mentioned to you christ that have
(23:00):
been to Ford Field know this. The stadium, the Lions
fans are as loud as anybody. And now with the
dome and the way the team is rocking, and the
fact that they have a lot of time between now
and eight to fifteen Michigan time tonight to drink a
lot of root beer before kickoff. As I always tell
my kids, they are going to be rocking. G You know,
(23:21):
Smith said he loves it. He loves that environment. He
loves how it tests their resilience, it tests their composure
on offense, it tests their silent counts, which they're going
to be doing with Connor Williams and whoever is at
right guard tonight, which is also a question, whoever is
at right guard tapping Connor Williams to trigger the silent
count the right guard situation. Let's talk about another key
(23:42):
to the game. Anthony Bradford, of course, has started the
last three game. The first three games of the season,
he leads a team by far with six penalties, second
most in the NFL. Heading in the Week four he
got injured. He had an injured knee in the opener.
The knee issue sidelined him from practice on when on
Thursday Day and Christian Hayes, the rookie third round pick,
(24:03):
was the starter in practice Thursday. Bradford came back to
practice Friday and Saturday, and Saturday after practice, Mike McDonald
was pretty coy in saying that both will play. Both
Haines and Bradford will play at right guard, but he
wouldn't specify how much. He said, we'll have to see
how the game dictates. Well, they have a plan already
so far. Haines has only had one play in the opener,
(24:27):
when Anthony Bradford got hurt and had to come out
and go to the tent for one play. And then
in week two they had Christian Haynes play one series
in the first half, in one series in the second
half of Bradford. Last week Haynes didn't play out. He
plays as much as you and I did. He's gonna
play more tonight. How much more, we don't know, but Chris,
it's dicey to put a rookie third round pick into
(24:49):
that scenario. At least Anthony Bradford has been in ford
field for an NFL game.
Speaker 2 (24:54):
Christian Haynes.
Speaker 1 (24:55):
There was nothing at Yukon, not even Niland Stadium in Knoxville, Tennessee,
last year that will replicate what he's going to get tonight,
noise and communications wise, that's going to be a tough
ask if you have him start tonight.
Speaker 3 (25:07):
It's a good test from though, it's a great, great
opportunity to show you can be a starter, show that
you can be better than what we've seen from Anthony Badford.
All things in company that you're going on the road
against a tough team, I would say an NFC rival,
not to challenge the Niners or anything, but this is
a matchup that is important. It could come down to
(25:29):
a tie break at the end of the year. Did
the Seahawks win this game did they lose it? So
this is a great chance for Christian to go out
there and show that he can take this position and
run away with it. I know this is something that
they want it done in training camp, but that's not
how it has happened. It's week four then pretty much
the end of week four, last game I guess for
Monday night in that regard before they got to week five.
(25:51):
But you would have wanted this handled months ago, but
it's not so tonight. Christian Haines can definitely take the
stride and show that he is better and then maybe
he is the starter from here on out. But someone's
got to take the reins.
Speaker 2 (26:04):
Now.
Speaker 3 (26:05):
It's a little late, but someone has to do it.
This offensive line needs to get finalized and it needs
to be in some consistency, especially if they want to
be able to run the full ball effectively with Ken
and sharbonay and even if Kenny mckato's gonna get some touches.
Speaker 1 (26:17):
Offensive coordinator Ryan Grubbs said that they need Haynes to
be just tougher and more physical that. That's the one
thing going for Bradford right now is the strength and physicality.
The two other keys to the game. We talked about
Aiden Hutchinson against Stone Forsythe Forsythe He's not a plan
ce right guard's supposed to be Abe Lucas. We don't
know when he's coming back. George fance On injured reserve
at right tackle, so it's gonna be Stone forsythe tonight
(26:39):
against Aiden Hutchinson. Hutchins's had four and a half sacks
in a game two weeks ago at Tampa Bay. He's
already got six and a half sacks in three games,
leads the NFL. He's going against the third string right tackle.
Expect a lot of chips, Expect Noah Fan to be involved,
expect the Zach Sharbonay to be involved. And pass protection.
(27:01):
I don't expect Kenneth Walker to get too money pass
pro reps with a strained obleague. But Hutchinson against forsythe
and everybody Ryan Grebs schemes with and he's already has
conservative pass protection schemes at the other key. And then
a third key, fourth key we talked about already in
the middle Jonathan Hankins and his most extensive action tonight,
the thirty two year old, twelve year veteran in the
(27:22):
middle of the Seahawks defensive line against one of the
better offensive lines in football and against the running back
tandem of David Montgomery and Jamier Gibbs. The Seahawks win
two or three of those and get turnovers, they can win.
Turnos have been a big factor of the last two weeks.
I mentioned on the Chuck and Bucks Show this morning
at seven o'clock. The last two times they've played here
in Detroit and won both games, the Seahawks had five
(27:42):
combined turnovers, including a pick six return for a touchdown
by Trey Brown.
Speaker 2 (27:47):
If they get turnovers tonight, they can win.
Speaker 1 (27:49):
Gino Smith has not turned the ball over in the
seahawks two wins at Detroit the last two seasons. That's
the formula to win again tonight. Four nine, four to
five one on the teleim we do tech signed to
the Seahawks get it done? Do you see these keys
going in their favor? Or is this too much of ask?
Of five? Potentially five if Jerome Baker doesn't play five
guys at the front, seven out tonight against the Lions
(28:11):
four nine four five one on the telemor'll do text
line how you think this game is gonna play out?
We'll read back your text at eleven thirty eleven thirty
five factor fix your chance to win a thousand dollars
from the Emerald Queen Casino, the betting capital of the Northwest.
At eleven o'clock Day Burgett Detroit News. Give us the
Lions perspective, and up next we'll talk about what the
rest of the NFL world was like yesterday. A couple
(28:32):
of surprises, a couple of statistical trends, and how about
Sam Darnold and the Minnesota Vikings four and oho, we'll talk.
We'll go around the NFL a little bit. Next to
ninety three point three kJ RFM. Welcome back Greg Bell
of the News Tribune in Detroit, Michigan, where tonight the
Seahawks and Lions will play. At five point fifteen. Christopher
(28:55):
Kidd back in the studios at Elliott Bay in Seattle.
I'll be covering everything for the News Tribute, and I
will be back here tomorrow in Detroit for the post
mortum day after morning after before flying back tomorrow night
and the Seahawks get ready Wednesday to play the lot
to the New York Giants on Sunday at Lumenfield. Giants
(29:15):
get four days off from having played Thursday against Dallas,
losing by five points, until they play in Seattle ten
days later. The Seahawks four fewer days of rest in
preparation before they play the Giants, and then four days
after that the Seahawks played the forty nine Ers. So
the NFL schedule makers not doing the Seas any favors
here in this little stretch of three games in ten days.
(29:38):
Elsewhere Chris around the NFL yesterday. I don't know what
caught your eye, but the way Derrick Henry ran last
night for Baltimore.
Speaker 3 (29:46):
Man everyone says, oh he's old. Oh man ran twenty
one miles per hour and no one caught him. He
still got it. Baltimore is going to be just fine
come the posts, and they have a running back that
can take a lot of wear taroff Lamar all Lamar
has to do his findest receivers, So that was a
huge deal for them. Getting Derek Henry, who doesn't look
(30:07):
like he's aged a bid. He's big as hal fast
and just unstoppable one hundred and ninety.
Speaker 1 (30:12):
Nine rushing yards for Derrick Henry that the Titans thought
was washed up and done. Lamar Jackson had three touchdowns.
The Bills NFL record streak of forty three consecutive regular
season games without a loss by six or more points
over thirty five to ten Baltimore. The first loss of
the season for the Bills, and that means only three
(30:33):
undefeated teams now left in the NFL. The Vikings are
one of them. They beat the Packers thirty one to
twenty nine after you're taking a twenty eight to nothing
lead at Lambeau in the first half. That was the
game that was on locally here in Detroit yesterday and
I watched some of the first half. First time the
Vikings have been fourno since twenty sixteen. That was like
six teams ago. For Sam Darnold. He had three more
(30:55):
passing touchdowns yesterday. He now has an NFL best eleven
touchdown passes in four games for a guy who isn't
even supposed to be starting right now. Remember it's supposed
to be JJ McCarthy, right the rookie first dropt pick
from Michigan who ripped his knee out in the summer,
and oh sky's falling in Minnesota and all of a sudden,
Sam Darnods gonna talk about an MVP candidate, Chris Crazy.
(31:18):
There the other two undefeated teams in the league. Kansas City,
Oh wow, shocker there Chiefs with Patrick Mahomes beat the
Chargers seventeen to ten with a touchdown in the fourth
quarter yesterday in La Inglewood. And then the Seattle Seahawks.
You're a third and final undefeated team pending the Knight's
game at Detroit. How about the Commanders Chris forty two
(31:40):
fourteen beat the Cardinals in the Desert. Jade Daniels what
is he? Twenty six of thirty? I think it was yesterday?
He has. No quarterback has ever had a higher completion
rate through the first four games of a season, not
rookie quarterback, No quarterback ever, Any quarterback of any age
has never had a higher completetion rate through four games
(32:01):
of a season as a full time starter than the
eighty two point one percent of Jaden Daniels as a rookie.
Speaker 3 (32:08):
Yeah he is. He is looking as if he's the
best quarterback in this bookie class. I know it's a
month end of the season, but he has looked every
bit of the best guy. He can throw it, he
can run it, he's confident, and they're winning football games. Yeah,
three and one, three and one, and they're not one
in three.
Speaker 1 (32:28):
He is.
Speaker 2 (32:28):
Their team is playing really good football and winning on
the road too, going out to Arizona as an underdog winning.
Speaker 1 (32:35):
Daniels is the.
Speaker 2 (32:36):
Best quarterback not named Patrick Mahomes.
Speaker 3 (32:38):
Right now, right now, four games I know by Josh Allen,
I still I know he didn't show up yesterday.
Speaker 1 (32:45):
A huge turnover, but what a stupid play called. The
Bills are trying finally getting back in the game, right
about twenty one to ten and moving across midfield, and
they try a flea flicker. They split Josh Allen out
the left. It's raining in bolt no more. They're finally
the Bills are moving the ball, having scored a touchdown.
They were down twenty one three and a half. They
scored a touchdown early second half, twenty one to ten.
(33:07):
They get across midfield, Allen's got him rolling. It looks
like it's gonna be twenty one seventeen in a few plays,
and they run a flea flicker in the rain.
Speaker 3 (33:15):
It's if it works, Oh my gosh, bright, but you
get it. I get where you're coming from. There's other
plays you can call. They thought they can get any
other play? Yeah, they yeah, I'm with you, big, my bad.
And then he's hit from Allen's hit from behind, fumbles
the ball. Baltimore takes the ball at midfield and goes
down and scores. Derek Henry runs wild again on that drive.
(33:37):
Twenty eight ten game over the Falcons. How about them
the Seathwks's gonna see them in a couple weeks in Atlanta.
Kirks gonna be playing. Tell you now, I think kirk
is gonna be fine.
Speaker 1 (33:46):
Let's get it, freak. I think Falcons beat the Saints
twenty six, twenty four, Young ho Ku. That was a career,
A loong fifty eight yard field goal with two seconds
left to get this Falcons to win. He's perfect doing
kicks this season, fifth teen for fifteen, including a fifty
eight yard game winner. That's clutch. I've already mentioned bo
Nicks set the NFL record for fewest passing yards in
(34:08):
a win, finishing with sixty on twenty five attempts.
Speaker 3 (34:14):
I'm like This don't even sound right. Sound as if
you made this up and you're just trying to tease
the young fellow. Sounds if you're just throwing shade. This
does not seem real.
Speaker 1 (34:23):
NFL record for the fewest passing yards in a win
with a minimum of at least twenty attempts to throw
that shit caveat that's crazy. Sixty yards on twenty five passes. Eagles.
They were six and oh in September's the last two seasons.
They're two and two now because they lost to the
Buccaneers and got boat rays thirty three sixteen, the Bucks
(34:43):
are three and one. Joe Flacco remember him?
Speaker 2 (34:48):
How could you forget?
Speaker 3 (34:49):
Man?
Speaker 1 (34:51):
Joe Flacco came off the Benchester because Anthony Richardson got hurt,
and I thought, okay, my Steelers are going to beat
the Colts because Richards's hurt. Well, they were so far
behind the Steelers and they rally late, justin fields. The
center snaps the ball with outfields looking in the fourth
quarter for a turnover. A fourth and one play. The
(35:11):
Steelers bring in a backup center as an extra lineman.
He whiffs on the block on the edge. The guy
he didn't block crushes Fields for another turnover on downs.
The Colts hold on to beat the Steelers, and Joe
Flacco is the one who won the game. He's thirty
nine years old. And Doug Peterson from Ferndale, his Jaguars
are the only NFL's only zero to fourteen. They lost
(35:34):
to the Texans. The Titans can join them at oh
and four tonight because they're playing at Miami. Two Monday
night games Tonight Tennessee at Miami is a seven thirty
eastern four thirty Seattle time kick, and then that's on
ESPN TV. Then ABC has Seahawks at Detroit, an eight
to fifteen eastern five point fifteen Seattle time start. That's
(35:56):
around the NFL yesterday. Up next day, bricatted the Detroit News,
been a guest of ours before. On the show, he's
gonna talk us Detroit's perspective, the Lions perspective tonight, and
Tonight's big game at Ford Field up next on ninety
three point three KJRFM
