(00:10):
All right now it's soft to theHealth and on the show here on one
of three point five FM and fivesixty AM w VC. If you're just
joining us, good morning, it'swonderful to have you on board this Saturday
morning. Aaron Plot will be herein later on the half hour of Massage
Mechanics Muscle Tension. But we talkabout so many things with Aaron, and
so many things that massages can canhelp you out with from the therapeutic standpoint,
(00:33):
certainly muscle tension is the one wethink of most. That's what we'll
discuss with Aaron coming up here injust a short while. Bridget Travel,
the founder, the owner of theHealth Dare. They have so many success
stories to talk about. They've beena matter of fact, more than eight
thousand over the course of the lastfew years. It's twenty fifteen, and
we'll talk about some of those withher this morning, not on all eight
(00:54):
thousand, but as many as wecan fit in, so she'll be here
next half hour. We get startedthough with Matt Lyons. He is the
owner of Carefree Boat Club at LakeMurray. Matt, good to see you,
buddy. Good morning Gary, howyou been I have been well?
Man, And uh, I'm wellbecause, as I always say when I
talk about you've been on the healthof wellness shows from my wife and I,
our form of wellness is to geton in Lake Murray and just chill.
(01:15):
Lately, I think you're gonna besmart to get in Lake Murray.
Well, yes, it's been hotthat here. And you know, we
have a lot of members who usedto go out, tubin and everything else.
Now they're just saying, like, give us the lily pads, give
us the floats. We're just gonnago float. Yeah, you gotta be
in the water or boat's gotta bemoving exactly right, one of the one
(01:36):
of the two. And I gottatell you this, by the way,
we uh back over July fourth weekend. Ye, I don't know if I
mentioned until you're not. I knowwe saw you out there that day.
But we took out the um party, the Party Pelican, I want to
call it party pot Pontoon. Itis a party Ponto, but the Party
Pelican, which is just an absolutelygorgeous try tune. Yeah, it's it's
(01:57):
my favorite and it's probably the memberfavorite as well. We've we have gotten
that one more than anything else.Yeah, And well, you know,
it's a beautiful lud try to andit was. It luxurious, but it's
got a grill on the back.So we did something that we've never done
before, and that was we tookthe boys out and we just pulled out
to an island and grilled up somesteaks and sat in the water, and
(02:23):
we all agree to a person,we got back of all the years and
we used to own boats. Wedon't anymore. We will talk about that,
but all the years we've been voting, I we don't. None of
us recalled a time when we hada better experience. I gotta be honest
with you. It's actually been enjoyablethis season to see so many families go
(02:43):
out at all different levels, alldifferent ages, and enjoy the boats and
enjoy them for different reasons, andyou do different things on him. It's
it's rare in your life that youget a job or a business where you're
actually just watching people have fun. It's kind of awesome. So I wish
I would have figured this out thirtyyears ago, but I'll just be happy
now and continue to watch my membersbe happy and have a good time.
(03:05):
So I'm it feels great to hearthat because I see it every day and
it makes me think maybe we're doingsomething right. Absolutely, absolutely, So
let's talk about now. We shouldprobably preface our conversation Matt by by telling
folks that they're really at least forthis season up until the fall, which
is hey, by the way,if you're new to the area, falling
(03:27):
exactly cold around here, not evencool, it'll be my my My theory
has always been, and it usuallyworks out. Not until about the second
week of the State Fair. Thethings start to kind of cool down a
little bit around here, and thenyou know you're talking at least at least
mid October. So, yeah, the season here, but the summer season.
As far as folks being able tocome out and join us at Carefree
(03:50):
Boat Club, there are only afew slots left. Yeah. We decided
the beginning of the year that wewere going to manage our membership in a
way that our team could could makesure everyone's getting the attention. The boats
are getting the attention, everyone hasthe access because joining a boat club is
a lot like joining a gym.If you join a gym January first year,
going every day come February first,or going once a week come March.
(04:13):
You forget where the gym is.That's just I mean, come on,
where all people this happens had agym membership? Really? There you
go. So a boat club's alittle bit like that. Your first year
in a boat club, you're gonnago out all the time. We have
members who train, they do onthe water training with us for free.
They train and they immediately want togo out that day on that boat and
then come out the next day andthe day after. So in managing that
(04:34):
accessibility to boats, we wanted tolimit our membership. So we started the
year saying we're not going to gomore than thirty five members and ten boats.
That's a three and a half memberto boat ratio. And we felt
that wasn't manageable business, and wefelt that it gave everyone a lot of
access. So we're five memberships awayfrom being at thirty five members ye,
(04:56):
and then we're gonna cut membership off. We'll open it back up up in
the fall winter season to plan fornext season. So they'll be boating on
Lake Murray year round, but wedon't view that as a season where people
are getting out every day and soforth, right, and this is important
and if you've ever considered joining aboat club, and I've told the story
before, Matt, because we oftenon over the years, had considered it.
(05:20):
But our concern was, now we'regonna want to vote on a certain
day, and what are the otherswill actually get one? And this is
why your cap and membership of course, to keep that boat. That let
low boat to member ratio correct. The last thing you want to do is
join a boat club and then findout every time I call over there they
tell me all the boats are gone. Yeah. I'd like to equate it
(05:40):
to if you want a hamburger andyou go to the McDonald's drive through and
the one day they tell you theydon't have hamburgers, you're okay with that.
The second day you go there andthey don't have hamburgers, You're starting
to think, why am I stoppinghere for Hamburger. So we don't want
to tell people we don't have boats. They joined the boat club to use
boats. Ye go, Buny Hamburgers. Already plenty of Hamburgers Right now,
I'm eating well. And you guysare growing your fleet too, we are.
(06:02):
We're just we're adding two new waverunners to the fleet. We have
one in the fleet right now.Our insurance allows us to have too,
so we're going to replace that onewith two brand new ones. They'll be
in this coming week, so we'llhave them on the water probably by Tuesday
for people to start using over thiscoming weekend. And you guys kind of
(06:23):
run through a good democracy because Igot the email too. You asked the
members, Okay, here here arethe options. What do you all want
to do. Yeah, you saidyou'd like the Party Pelican. We one
of the options, we would youlike another boat similar to the Party Pelican.
Do you want another fishing boat? And I can tell you the results
came back. The two wave Runnerswas a winner because one of the things
is when members reserve the wave runner, they're getting both. So it's one
(06:44):
reservation, you get both wave runners. We think that's more fun. And
then we did you want to dofishing boats? So number two was another
fishing boat. Number one was thewave Runners, then fishing boat, then
another Party Pelican. So next yearwe'll definitely add another fishing boat, will
definitely had another Party Pelican, butfor the rest of this season it'll be
the two wave Runners will be added, and then we'll have to do a
(07:05):
vote on the name as well, because now I got a name two yeah,
right, I've kind of set astandard that the names are awesome,
and it gets more and more difficultthan more boat you have. Yeah,
you started to run out of ideasooner or later. Now and again we
keep talking about the party Pelicans. It's a fabulous ride too. It's not
the only try tune you got. It's not and it's not the only fabulous
one. We do have a brandnew avalon double decker try tune with a
(07:30):
two hundred on it with a slideoff the back. That's our second most
popular boat. We were out there. Last time we were out there,
I think, as a matter offact, you had a brand new Well,
she wasn't actually brand new, shedI think you were telling me she'd
been a member for a while buthad been out of town and what her
job had kept her going and hadhad a chance to get out there,
and so her first trip with itwas to take that one out the double
deck with a bunch of kids.Absolutely, Laura is a great member.
(07:53):
She just had joined, hadn't goneout and then came back into town.
She owns a business, was outof town came back into town. That
was her first boat she went outon and UM it went great. She
had some friends out with her. They had a really good time. UM
it's a gorgeous boatum one that II don't know if we'll add a second
double decker to the to the fleet. We may, um if that's what
the members want. But it reallyis. UM it's our second most popular
(08:16):
boat. Best way to say itso again, as I mentioned at the
front of the discussion here, Imean my family, his own boats we've
had, We've owned three of them. U. My father always had a
boat down at Myrtle Beach in GardenCity. We used to get down the
air and go boat and all thetime. So for us, you know,
we got a lot of experience.I'm not telling you on the best
(08:37):
boat docker, but we got ahuh. Actually I haven't. I haven't
bumped into the your dock yet.You and I'll honestly say, you're not
the worst. But we're there tocatch every member when they come in.
We're able to we gps the boats. We kind of know where they're at.
We can tell when they're heading backin. UM. We also text
our members quite a bit and theytext us back to tell us things like
if they're gonna want to stay outlate, so around six o'clock every night,
(08:58):
any vote that's a lot. Itext him and say, hey,
are you coming back by seven ordo you want to stay out late?
If you're staying out late, we'llgive you instructions for that evening because we
do allow members to keep the boatspast our operating hours, because we live
in a world we want people tohave fun, right, and even keep
them overnight too, right. Absolutely. Yeah. We have one member whose
inlaws live on the other side ofthe lake, and he texts us every
once in a while and says,hey, it's five o'clock, but I'm
(09:20):
over on the other side. CanI park at my in laws and bring
it back in tomorrow? And wecheck tomorrow schedule, and if no one
has it, we say, keepit as long as you want. No
one's reserved it. If it's reserved, we say, get it back to
us by eight thirties week and cleanit and get it out for nine o'clock.
Right. But the great thing Imean again, we talk two main
three main things to talk about here. Number one, we've been talking about
the boat to member ratio. Imean, you want to be sure as
(09:43):
sure as you can be that whenyou want to get a boat, you
can get it in your system. You have a reservation system, but you
can also sprow the moment call andsay hey, you guys, something available
and yep, you know, Imeant most of us, certainly during the
week that's there are always lots available. Most of the time I get a
text to our call from remember saying, hey, we want to go out
this afternoon. Is is there aboat available? And I can, usually
(10:03):
without even looking, say yes, which one do you want? If it's
Tuesday through Friday. That's that's prettytypical. On the weekends, Um,
we we've had availability. We justhave to It's it's somewhat limited in that
we may not have the party Pelican, but we've got the grivy Gator,
or we've got the Lazy Lizard,or we've got the chubby bullfrog. So
um. At this point, Ican't recall having a tell Amember we didn't
(10:26):
have a boat, even on theweekend. Even on the weekends. Yeah,
uh, July first or whatever thefireworks was that day. I think
that was our busiest day and wehad two boats available in the am that
no one took out. In theafternoon, we had all of them go
out. But that's a you know, it's it's a busy, busy day.
Yeah. Sure, so a holidayweekend, yeah, So the availability,
(10:48):
the cost. If you've ever owneda boat, you know that there's
a lot of hidden costs in thebowship. I'd like to tell people the
first thing to think about when you'regonna buy a boat is you're gonna want
to slip, because if you're traileringit and putting in the water, you're
never going to use it. Infact, I tell people, if you
buy a boat to leave on atrailer, let me know, two years
into it, I'm happy to buythat boat from you because you've never used
(11:09):
it and it's it's a great buy. But so you're gonna get a slip
that's about two hundred and fifty bucks. I think there's a new marina on
the lake that's four hundred bucks amonth for a slip. Wow, yep.
And then you're looking at insurance isroughly one hundred bucks a month.
So you're three fifty without a boat, without a boat payment, without any
repairs, without anything. Right,My whole program is four fifty all in,
(11:30):
no hidden fees, no anything. We have no extra fees. We
don't get people to come in onthe Admiral's program and try to upgrade them
to the Skipper program or the generalprogram. It's all. Everyone has the
same accessibility, the same level, the same everything. And currently our price
is four fifty a month. Thatwill change probably for next season as we
mature as a business and so forth, but for this first season that's our
(11:52):
program, okay. And of coursethe hassle you just talked about if if
you're trailer on a boat and goingback and forth to Lake Murray, even
if you live somewhat close. Imean the last time we tradled a boat.
We've moved since then, but wewere maybe about so, no more
than fifteen minutes away from what weput in. But you know, I
(12:13):
mean hooking it up and driving itout there and putting it in and taking
it back and waiting at the ramp, waiting at the ram, and then
watching everyone watch you try to backa boat up that you've only backed up
three times yourself, and maybe youforget to put the plug in, and
even if you get a slip andleaving the slip. We had someone at
the marina we're at not use theirboat for quite a long time. They
(12:33):
started it up on July fourth weekendand fourteen gallons of gas build out everywhere
because they hadn't been on the boat. I was talking to the guy who
were trying to help him clean upthe mess and so forth, and I'm
like, you know what happened? He goes, I don't know. We
haven't used the boat for almost ayear and we just started it up and
all this. That felt horrible forhim. But if you have a boat
you don't use for a year,do yourself a favorite, get rid of
(12:54):
it. It happens way too often, I know. All right, so
uh, the cost, the availability, uh, the hassle free nature of
it. Because I gotta tell youwhen we pull up, and I thought
at first this was because you know, you and I kind of you know,
we got to know each other alittle bit, and you're a big
(13:15):
celebrity. I'm a huge celebrity.Yeah, we pulled up and yeah,
your folks are like, hey,let me grab a cool out the car
and put on a boat for it. No, that's not necessary. You
do that for everybody. We dowe do, and I do it myself
because if you ask my wife Laurie, who I love dearly, um,
she'll tell you I excel at movingheavy things. That's about it. So
I tell members all the time, this is my workout, this is what
I do. Well. I helpcarry coolers there and we carry him back
(13:37):
as well. So it is reallysupposed to be a concier service. And
I think at this point we're upto fifteen or twenty Google reviews that are
all five star. I mean,we really do our best to treat our
members like their members of a club, of an organization that they pay for.
Well, I gotta tell you,I mean again, there there have
(13:58):
been time my wife will tell youthis, Well, we're gonna take a
boat out, and I was like, okay, it's once we get out
there, it's good. But it'severything else, yes, right, and
you're just you almost sometimes you almostdread it. Yes, but you gotta
clean it, you gotta take offthe coverage, you gotta wash it down,
you gotta do all this stuff. We eliminate all that. There's a
reason why it's called care free boatclub. If we just show up,
we get in, and we go, we come back, give you the
(14:20):
keys, and we're out of there. If a club is run correctly,
meaning the owner doesn't oversell memberships andyou don't over you know, oversaturate the
memberships. If it's done correctly,it's by far the best thing in the
world for boaters. There's no question. It's a great experience, all right.
So just a few slots left. What a folks need to do,

(15:26):
over the course of our years together. And you know, it took us
three to finally realize, you know, as much fun as it is,
boy, it is sure a hassle. So we don't own a boat anymore.
But we are now members of thecare Free Boat Club out of Leg

Health and Wellness Show. Good morning, is wonderful to have you with us.
Appreciate it once again. My nameis Gary David Aaron. Good morning
to you. How you doing.Good morning as always, pleasure, beautiful,
(16:56):
excellent. Today we want to talkabout muscle tension. You know,
unlikely topic because we're talking about thetherapeut of massages here. Muscle tension.
Now you may be yea, youmay be thinking, okay, muscle tension,
all right, you're talking about youknow, I'm in there pumping iron
and this and that. But nowour topic is a muscle tension how it
to fix your everyday life? Right? So, I mean, obviously muscle
(17:21):
tension is going to affect sports performance. And you know, if you're in
the gym, you're lifting, doingthings like that, you know muscle tension
plays a huge part in that, not just overly tight muscle. But muscles
that have low tension also can bea huge um you know, buzzkill when
it comes to trying to do thethings that you're trying to do. And
(17:41):
that goes for not just when you'redoing an activity that kind of performance,
but also like you're kind of dayto day performance. You know, if
you ever woken up and you mayhave had a really busy day of the
day before, not necessarily like outplayingsports or lifting weights, but just as
really crazy easy day, yeah, all right, and then you go to
(18:03):
bed that night, you know, and you sleep really well, and you
wake up the next day, buteverything just feels sluggish, and you're you're
kind of moving around and it justfeels like everything taking a million years to
those messages are not relaying properly, and you just have this overall like kind
of fatigue and malaise that due tooverly low muscle tension. Um Our muscles
(18:29):
are actually never fully relaxed because there'salways some level of tension within them so
that they are ready and you know, active, you know, activated to
to do movement to be used.Um And so what ends up happening is
if there's really low tension in yourmuscle tissue due to either overuse. UM,
(18:51):
so you did go to the gymthe day before and you really you
know, went hard with everything andthose muscles just got overstimulated and overused.
There can be some low ten cando to that, but it can also
be due to the hydration, lackof proper sleep, lack of movement is
also another way that you have likereally low tension in your muscle tissue.
Um. You know, there's there'sa very fine balance, and we've talked
(19:15):
about balance a lot with you know, massage and how our body operates,
and that balance is such a fineline and it's it's really hard to maintain
sometimes if you're not taking proper careof your body. When you talk about
balance, is about balance issues orjust just your your your balance, your
biological balance, your biological balance,Okay, Um, you know, maintaining
(19:36):
the correct hydration levels, maintaining theright levels of sleep, maintaining you know,
the right levels of muscle tension andactivity and things like that, managing
your stress. It's all a balancingact, if you will. Um.
And then of course you know mostof us realize and recognize because we've dealt
with it before. That overtension inthe muscle tissue, that hypertensive muscle tissue
(20:00):
causes a lack of effectiveness in muscleperformance because a muscle that obviously is overly
tense is not going to do thejob the way that you want it to
do it. You aren't going tohave your full range of motion. You're
probably going to be really uncomfortable.UM. There will be some pain associated
with that, um, you know, and it really affects the way that
you're able to do things, andyou're more likely to get injured that way.
(20:22):
UM, having overly tense muscles, and so a lot of times feele
are like, okay, so whatdo I do for that? You know,
what's what's the solution here? Soone of the ways that you can
kind of counteract overly tense and underlytense muscles, UM is hydration. You
know, making sure that you're gettingat least eight eight ounce cups of water
(20:45):
a day. UM. So that'ssixty four ounces of water a day is
the minimum minimal that you know, everybody recommends for that. There is such
a thing now is too much though, isn't there There is such thing as
too much water? You can actuallyhave um, you know, water poisoning
um if you drink way too muchwater. But in order to do that,
(21:06):
you'd have to pretty much chug likethree or four gallons of water in
a really vast succession. Because you'llsee people You'll see people to gym sometimes
and I thought that I've been ina while, but you know, and
they carry the big, you know, gallon milk jugs full of water and
they're just constantly down to it whilethey're working out. And I wonder if
somebody's people aren't drinking too much,well, they're also losing a lot of
(21:27):
water at that moment in time becausethey're really working their muscle tissue and everything.
And you always see them their sweatingbuckets, so they're replenishing that hydration
as they leave it u And youknow the thing with that again, find
balance. You know, you've gotto find that balance between too much water
and not enough. And if you'retaking on too much water, your body's
(21:48):
gonna let you know, you're gonnahave, you know, stomach cramping,
You're you know definitely going to beyou know, urinating a lot more than
regular. Your kidneys and stuff aregoing to really be working over time because
there's going to be some discomfort associatedwith that. Now, if you are
somebody who drinks maybe you know, twenty four ounces of water a day,
you know, you're not necessarily ifyou bump up to sixty four ounces,
(22:11):
you're not gonna have stomach cramps andthings like that, unless, of course,
you're chugging a ton of water allat one time. But if you
spread it out throughout your day,you know, sixty four ounces of water
is actually a really reasonable amount consideringmost water bottles that we get, like
the plastic ones from the gas stationor whatever, just like little water bottles,
those are sixteen ounce bottles, andyou can finish that pretty quickly.
(22:33):
So if you keep filling those up, you know, and you do that
four or five times a day, you're gonna you're gonna have the amount of
water levels that you're you're gonna need. Now, you're a therapeutic massage therapist,
you're not a biologist or anything likethat. But but I'm just I've
always been curious. I'll have youthe answers or not, So it's always
(22:53):
it's always water. Well, what'swrong with other liquids? Why? Why
don't they work? So? Otherliquids can work. But the thing with
water is there's nothing added into itexcept for natural staff. Now, of
course, if you get water thathas you know, pH balance and it's
got electrolytes added to it and thingslike that, that's fine. What you
want to watch out for our sugarsthat are added into your water. We
(23:17):
have beam that's added into your water, colors that are added into the water,
because of course certain guys can haveeffects on people as well. And
then you also want to look atyour pH of your water. Well have
you mentioned the color, because mywife she loves a little and their sugar
free is a little package you putin gives it the taste or whatever,
(23:37):
but it does change the color ofthe water. What's what's the problem with
that? So certain guys, redguys especially can have very almost allergic effects
on people, especially in children. You get a lot of kids whom kind
of almost seem hyperactive in a wayto the red dye. It can cause
(24:02):
stomach upsets, things like that.So anything that's being added into something,
you know, whether that's preservatives orelectrolytes or guys or anything like that,
you know, you just have topay attention to how your body reacts to
that, because you know, ifyou've never had a reaction to it,
you don't know if you're going tohave a reaction to it. But saying
(24:23):
all that, things that have electrolytesadded into and like gatorade and things like
that, they're good for you becausethey're helping replenish those electrolytes. You just
have to watch the sugar levels onthat because you know, that's the one
thing is like you know, onboarding, too much sugar is sort of an
opposite effect for what you want forhydration. Same thing with caffeine. It's
(24:45):
a diuretic, so it's going tocause you to lose more hydration in the
long run. You know, peoplealways like to laugh when I say you
need to drink more water, andthey're like, there's water in beer.
Yes, there's there's a good bitof water in beer, but there's also
a lot of you know, beersdiuretic. Alcohol is a diuretic, so
you're going to eventually end up losinga lot more water the more alcohol you
(25:07):
drink. And so you know,it's sort of again that balance. You
know, I'm not saying you can'thave a few beers and things but more
than likely you're not going to bechugging a beer while you're doing a workout.
Um, it's sort of counterproductive, but a few folks should do that.
But no, you know, no, well, I'm sure there are
and again, more power to youwhatever works for you. But eventually that's
going to catch up, and thatcan cause some issues with overheating and dehydration
(25:30):
and of course muscle response and thingslike that as well. And muscle is
a mean the water makes a hugepart of muscle mass, right, it's
a huge part. And water, you know makes up about seventy percent of
your body, seventy seventy eight percentof your body, so you know,
it's a huge player in the waythat your body functions and the way that
(25:51):
your muscle function. And muscles thatare dehydrated do not have the stretch factor
that is needed in order to optimally, you know, do what it's supposed
to do. So when you don'thave the stretch factor for your muscles,
you know, you're much more likelyto tear a muscle. And that's kind
(26:11):
of going back into that muscular tension. When your tensions too high, your
muscles will not stretch the way thatthey should. So if you're thinking about,
you know, a rotational movement, say in your in your arm and
your shoulder, like you're doing arotation like a picture you're throwing a baseball.
If your deltoids and triceps and bicepsand the various other muscles along in
(26:32):
there are not stretching properly through thatmovement, then he's not going to get
that rotation that he needs, andso it's going to shorten it, and
eventually he's going to tear its rotatorcuts because those muscles are pulling so hard
on all these supporting structures and he'snot able to get that full range of
motion. You know, it's alittle bit off topic here, but since
(26:55):
you talk so much about stretching,we've discussed this before. I mean,
how vitals stretching is. I mean, again, not for somebody who's going
to do an athletic performance necessarily orgo to the gym and live ways,
but just in everyday life, howimportant is stretching. It's incredibly important.
Like I said earlier, an overlytense muscle is an ineffective muscle. And
(27:17):
one of the best ways that youcan work on overly tense muscles is stretching.
So one of the ways that youcan tell if your muscles are super
tense, you know, ay,you can usually feel it, you know.
I mean most people know when theirnecks and their shoulders are tense.
But a good test is if youtake your thumb and you press it into
the belly of a muscle, sothe really big part of the muscle doing
(27:37):
it right now. I'm doing itright now at the top of your thigh,
so you're probably at rest, you'resitting down, so the muscle's not
engaged. So if you press yourthumb into the top of that muscle and
it gives easily and you're able toget kind of down into the muscle and
it doesn't feel tense, it feelsloose and relaxed, then you're good.
If it's really hard or you're notpenetrating kind of in that muscle at all.
(28:00):
If it feels like the top ofa table, or it feels like
really lumpy or ropey, that muscleis really way too tight, especially if
it's at rest, and so you'vegot to stretch it. But the thing
is is like you're not going togo and do a full stretch right away
because that muscle's cold, it's notgoing to do the stretch that you wanted
to do. It's way too short. You've got to build on these things.
(28:22):
It's called progressive muscle stretching. Soone of the ways that we do
that and working with people it ourclinic, is we'll massage that muscle,
will warm it up. We stretchit out ourselves manually with our hands,
and then we'll actually do some passivestretching and some active stretching with you while
you're on the table. So wemanipulate that soft tissue before we ever even
(28:45):
really stretch it out, just towarm it up again. I go back
to that example of taffy because alot of people kind of know what taffy
is and everything. When taffy's cold, it doesn't do anything. It won't
stretch at all. You know, you try and wretch it, it breaks,
right. Yeah, So if youwarm it up, even if you
hold minutes and just warm it up, it's softened, It stretches out.
(29:06):
It gets really like stringy and stretchingand everything. Your muscles don't stretch that
much, but it's the same kindof effect. If you warm up that
muscle, it becomes much more pliable, and it becomes much easier to stretch
out. Gotcha, all right,So let's recap here aaron muscle tension,
and again it has an effect onour daily life and again in what ways
(29:30):
to tons of ways. You know. Again, one of the things too
that we do a lot of issitting, and so a lot of people
complain about like hip pain and lowback pain. And that's because the hip
flexors where your legs kind of comeinto your trunk, those flexers are so
shortened and they're so tight. Thosemuscles are so tight that when you go
to get up, it's kind ofhard to do and sometimes it's really uncomfortable.
(29:53):
So stretching out those hips, openingthem up, stretching your low back,
those things are all really good todo. And you can find a
good zillion stretching exercises and ways tostretch online. You can google, you
know, stretches for and then hitlow back or shoulders or neck or hips
or whatever. You can watch YouTubevideos. I mean, there's a million
(30:15):
different ways to do it. Oryou can come see us and we can
do some muscle testing and we cancheck out everything and how it's working and
make sure that you're good to go. When you start a stretching plan like
that, Aaron is it Is itthe same routine pretty much every day or
do things need be changed up alittle bit. It can be the same
routine, especially if you have likea full body stretch routine, like in
(30:36):
yoga they have like full vigazzas andthings that do the various different muscle groupings
all in kind of one quick likethirty minute routine. Or you can focus
on certain muscle groupings every day.You can focus on certain muscles, you
know, like do your legs onone day, do your back on another
day. Or if you're at workor you're at home and you feel like
(30:57):
everything's just kind of tight, youcan do just random stretches, you know,
just whatever feels good. The importantthing is to do something every day,
and multiple times a day is usuallyreally good for you. You know.
Every time you see an animal getup from taking a nap or laying
still for a little while, theystretch, you know, and they do
(31:17):
that without anybody's telling them to dothat. It's an instinctual thing. So
it's really really really good for yourbody to stretch it as often as possible,

(35:08):
Wellness Show. Thanks so much forjoining us this morning here on one of
three point five FM, five sixtyam w BOC and the course around the
planets on the iHeart Radio app aswe welcome in Bridget Trammell, the owner
of the founder, the head coachat the Health There, who joins us
now Bridget, Good morning until youfor having me today. It was always
(35:29):
a pleasure always. You know, over the years you all have been in
business as by twenty fifteen correct, absolutely, and over that span of time
you have got some eight thousand plusfolks who have taken the dare and had
tremendous success on it, like myselfand like my wife. By the way,
you've on that, yeah, thankyou. You've got to have those
(35:52):
some of your favorite stories over theyears of folks. Yes, it has
been incredible, coaching over eight thousandpeople to success in the last you know,
eight years, twenty fifteen, withover an eighty percent success rate.
It's been absolutely incredible. But thereare a couple of people that really really
(36:12):
have stood out over the years. And one of my favorite clients was a
woman named Nicola. She lives upin Black Mountain, North Carolina, and
she came to us. I firstmet with her. She was in a
wheelchair and she was just, youknow, completely immobile. She had bad
knees. Both of her knees werejust you know, given her trouble,
(36:35):
back pain, all kinds of issues, diabetes, high cholesterol, all those
things. And I remember just tearsstreaming down her face as she told us
that she just couldn't she just hadno hope, you know. And within
the first four weeks on the healthStare, we were able to help her
lose thirty four inches in a wheelchairin a wheelchair in a wheelchair. So
(36:58):
she's not she's gone out jogging orworking out of the gym or anything like
that, but she followed some ofthe very simple things that our coaches gave
her and she lost thirty four inchesin four weeks. And then at our
eight week evaluation, I'll never forgetit, she walked down the hallway to
our office holding the hand of hereight year old granddaughter and again tears streaming
(37:22):
down her face. She had lostfifty pounds forty one inches. Her granddaughter
watched her get measured, and theyhugged, and she was literally half the
woman she was when she came. All of her mobility issues disappeared. And
that was just one of the mostspecial things to be a part of that
I've ever experienced. Oh, wehad another couple. Their grandson had lived
(37:45):
with them, or not lived withthem, but was at their home every
single day. They're one of hisprimary caregivers for years until it's five years
old. And then his parents movedto California. So they moved to California,
and they sat in my office andcried. They had even built a
microwave in their custom built home underthe counter so he could reach it and
(38:07):
microwaves his popcorn. Their whole lifeevolves around their grandson, Yea. And
the tragedy was gary that they couldnot fit in the airplane seats to go
and visit him, and they weredevastated and they were crying, and we
were able to help them lose oversixty pounds each and they were able to
(38:27):
fit in the airplane, fit inthe ride to Disney World, get Disneyland
out there in Anaheim, and gobe with their grandson, and it was
just it's just been incredible to beable to give people hope to reverse their
symptoms of diabetes, high blood pressure, HIH, cholesterol, literally saving people's
lives. Not only saving their livesand prolonging their lives, but giving them
(38:49):
back their quality of life during theirretirement years when they should be enjoying it
the most. Absolutely. Absolutely,Yeah, I'm gonna kind of surprised for
you to start with your favorites inthe story. Wasn't your own? Yes?
Absolutely. I also had an incredibletransformation, which is how all this
came about. I lost eighty poundsin ninety days. I was a single
(39:09):
mom of a two week old babyand a two year old baby. And
if I can do it, anybodycan do it. Because I love to
eat and hate to exercise. Iwas my first quiet. But you know
that reminds me talking about dramatic weightloss because not everybody comes to us for
weight loss, you know, butbelly fat causes heart attack, stroke,
(39:32):
cancer, sleep at me a snory. I mean, it squeezes those internal
organs, see, and you can'tlose belly fat by you know, skipping
the carbs and taking a walk everyday or starving yourself. It's just you've
got to have a cellular health approach, which is why the health is the
health. They're so different, butinches on your belly are years off of
your life. And people sometimes don'trealize that that extra weight is really,
(39:57):
you know, cutting off years oftheir life. And we do focus on
weight loss, but mostly belly spatis what we attack. And I had
a client named Kathy and she cameto us she was severely overweight again,
could barely walk. We had tohelp her from her car into the health
Stare. And after ninety days inthe health Stare, Kathie lost one hundred
(40:20):
and twenty pounds and she literally toldus she didn't know if she'd ever be
able to walk again. And nowyou can see her walk in downtown Simpsonville
every morning, down the little sidewalkswith her advisor on with a little walking
club and She told us about howshe went to Iowa and was able to
do a hike with her daughter, and she said, I came over the
ridge of that mountain and I sawthe sunset and tears just came down my
(40:45):
face. I never thought I'd beable to do this again. And life
is so good, and we hearthese stories every single day. I mean,
these are life changing stories we're talkingabout here, life changing, life
saving. We had a we hada couple named Chet and Tassie. They're
in their sixties, and they cameto us and they said, look,
we still love each other. Well, we're too tired to be intimate,
(41:09):
and we both have sleep at usso we sleep in separate requires every night
and fall asleep to the television. And they said, we don't know what
to do. We were able tohelp them each lose sixty pounds and now
he's chasing her around the house andthey have an incredible intimate relationship. We're
able to help them sleep together again. I mean, these are just things
(41:29):
that people don't talk about. Theydon't they don't, you know, want
to open up and tell people, but they're suffering in silence. Yeah,
you know, in their private lives. You know, bridget the default thought
here is that, you know,we're talking about folks who maybe up in
years, a lot of wear andtear on their bodies, a lot of
(41:50):
wrong eating over the years and years. But you know, these days with
the younger generations maybe not getting outas much as you know, like my
gard Oh we had to do wasgo out and play, you know,
we didn't had video games. Ayoung couple come to us named Eric and
Porscha and Um. Eric had leukemia, you know, and of course the
(42:12):
health there does not claim to cureleukemia. That is a very intense disease.
But we were able to help themcombined as a couple whose forty four
pounds of fat, thirty three inchesand he said his leukemia numbers were the
best that he'd ever seen, sohis body was able to start fighting and
regenerating. And they were in theirtwenties, a young couple. We had
(42:36):
another woman who had eight children,a mother, stay at home mom.
She just said, I just feellike I'm in a fog all the time.
Nikki um phenomenal woman. She's justa bright spot, but she said,
I just don't have any energy. There's no light in my eyes.
I have brain fog. My hormonesare just you know, in a deficit.
(42:57):
We were able to help her losesixty pounds of fat. And then
Nikki came on at the health thereas one of our head coaches and she
was the best coach we ever had, and everybody called her Princess Nikki,
and she would just bounce around theoffice and laugh and giggle and so full
of life after you know, survivingeight childbirths, you know herself. Yeah,
(43:19):
and you know, coming out ofthis brain fog and losing weight and
getting healthy and lowering or blood pressure, and the stories just go on and
on. It's just, you know, it's an unbelievable and even talk about
brain fog. I talked to somany people these days that are may feel
like they're in pretty good, youknow shape from a health respective, but
there they got that brain fog thinggoing on. I don't know if that's
(43:42):
a result of anxiety, oh yeah, depressions. We have now licensed counselors
on staff that help people with eatingdisorders or just in general depression and anxiety.
The Health there is not a weightloss program. It's a get healthy
mind, body, soul from theInsight out its cellular health from the inside
out, you know, because yourcells. Your body is made up of
(44:06):
your cells, trillions of cells insideyour body, and they regenerate. Most
of them regenerate every ninety days. Some of them don't regenerate for ten years,
but most of the bulk of yourcells regenerate in ninety days. So
our goal is to get those thoseunhealthy, shriveled up raisin like cells that
have got visceral fat and disease stuckinside them, was washed out into beautiful,
(44:30):
water filled, grape like cells whereno disease can lie dormant. And
that is how we're reversing the symptomsof diabetes, high blood pressure, high
cholesterol, irritable bell syndrome, anotherthing nobody talks about. Had a guy
up in Asheville who was thirty threeyears old, skinny as a rail,
(44:51):
didn't need to lose any weight, but it had a severe IBS and he
was a UPS delivery driver and hesaid, I'm going to lose my job.
I can't get some point A topoint B without having to stop at
the bathroom. Wow. And Gary, he had had IBS since he was
nine years old, and within twoweeks on the health stare hydrating those cells.
(45:14):
His ibs was completely gone. Let'stalk about that a hydration, because
that's that is the key element here. So I can hear the question now,
well, bridget I just I drinka lot of water. I drink,
you know, more than what I'msupposed to on a daily basis.
I got one of those big oldcups that's got the measure the thing on,
and I doubt it every day. What's the difference between doing that and
(45:34):
what we're talking about here? Absolutely, So, just drinking water is not
going to get you hydrated. Now, it's a good thing to do.
The most important concept is to beable to absorb the water. So we
have a lot of clients, evenif they may be in good shape.
I've had a bodybuilder stand on myhydration scale and he was more dehydrated than
(45:54):
my four hundred pound diabetic. Soit really doesn't have a whole lot to
do with how much water you drinkor how you know in shape you are.
It's about if your body is notabsorbing the hydration, then your cells
will not absorb it and they'll justste'll pee it right out. You know.
There's a few cellular health technologies thatare the foundation of our program of
(46:15):
how we get you hydrated. Now, I tell you, Gary, but
I'd have to kill you. Ican't. I already know, but I
if I told somebody that, youcome kill me too. So it's our
dirty little secret. They'll have tocall twenty seven seven. I dare me.
You know. We we'll tell themeverything for a small fee, you
know, but it is so soeasy. Our coaches do all the work.
(46:37):
You just have to drink the water. But we make sure that you
absorb it, and we have Everyclient will get their own biowimped and hydration
scale. It does over fifteen measurements. It tells you your metabolic age.
Yes, I ansulting because you stepon there and it says you're a seventy
six year old man. You knowyou're gonna die soe But you know,
(47:00):
it's just been We just have somuch fun in the health there offices.
We throw those yellow fat blobs around. You know, you see those those
yellow fat blobs on our website onthe ideareme dot com. Each one of
those fat blobs is five pounds,So when somebody loses sixty pounds, we
made them. We make them holdsixty pounds of fat, which they can
barely do in front of our successlaw and their arms are shaken, and
(47:24):
we go, this is why youhad bad kniches, This is why you
had a bad back because you canbarely walk. You're carrying all this around
all the time. You know, that is the first time I saw one
of those. That is because thenumber one is ug but you don't think
what it is. You pick itup, but it's again, it's only
five pounds. But when you pickit up, you're like, well,
I could lose five pounds and getrid of this, yes, yes,
(47:47):
oh yeah yeah. At the healththere, the average inch loss is sixteen
um as seventeen inches in thirty days, and the average fat loss is sixteen
pounds in the first thirty days.So most of our clients on average lose
three of those fat blobs in thefirst thirty days. And just that alone,
(48:07):
just is so you can breathe better, you can walk better. It's
so exciting and motivating to continue. And when it's so easy to continue.
You don't have to give up bread, you don't have to give up meat,
you don't have to give up evenalcohol. You can still have.
We just tell you how to eatit, and we tell you how to
obsdore water. We had a client, Glen and Carrie, and they owned
(48:31):
a bakery. So they came inand they said, what do we do.
We love to eat sweets and wesaid, oh, have no fear
at the health there. We havean app that has hundreds of recipes on
it, we have our own cheesecakerecipe, we've got brownies, we've got
everything. And in eight weeks theywere down over fifty pounds each. And
(48:52):
they started hosting our Greenville Health Therecooking classes in their bakery and came up
with all kinds of really cool sugarfree sweets and things like that. It
was so much fun. Hey,will you do me a favorite bridget?
Will you talk to them see ifyou can get them to come up with
a a Bigner recipe? Yes,absolutely, dear, we will get you
(49:13):
that Vivier please. Their chefs arethe best. We have a whole team
of executive chefs. They go intopeople's homes, they cook for them,
they'll do custom recipes for them.Um, they will deliver groceries to your
door. You can go to thecooking classes. It's really truly an incredible
(49:34):
team. Our executive chef, KathyJones is absolutely incredible. She has served
food to the Dali Lama well, she had her own natural food store up
in Colorado. She went to schoolfor microbiology. She is brilliant and she
happens to be over seventy years old. I'm sorry, Kathy, I'm selling
me out, but she respricles aroundour twenty year old. She's incredible and
(49:59):
she could make a ro it wasout of a tomato, So she's fantastic.
Wow, I suppose you since youmentioned it, you talked about the
dietary specialists, the chefs and allthe I mean, part of the secret
is is the accountability team that youput together and then everybody gets access to
that, right who all sort ofwhat all sorts of specially is we talking
about here? Absolutely so our accountabilityteam. All diet plans work, you
(50:23):
know, until we fall off thewagon, right, and you really can't.
It's very difficult to lose belly fatalone because you're bellifat's anabolic, it
rapidly multiplies, it sends its ownsignals and hormones to the brain. It's
cellular fat, So you need anentire team. I mean you almost have
to view it like cancer. Ithas the same likenesses as cancer. It
(50:46):
rapidly multiplies, and it gets angrywhen you try to eliminate it because it's
latched into all those organs. Sowhen you start to lose belly fat,
it tries to self preserve. Itsays signals to the brain. No,
no, no, you need acheeseburger. You need you know, you
need, you need sugar, andyou need a team that can help you
get through those moments. Because whenyou've got diabetes, high blood pressures,
(51:09):
sleep at me a high cholesterol, mobility issues, IBS issues, performance issues,
hormone, whatever it is, youneed someone to help you come against
that. And to be honest withyou, Gary, most fitness trainers have
never been fat. You know.I mentioned our coach Nikki, who had
eight kids and lost sixty pounds.I lost eighty pounds in the program.
(51:32):
One of our coaches, Amber lostover one hundred pounds on the program.
We know the struggle and we canhelp you overcome it at the health there,
