Speaker 1 (00:00):
Thanks for having me brother.
Speaker 2 (00:01):
It's always exciting to talk with you, and there's always
so much energy that comes in. You know. Last week
we started a conversation about a big event at the
Healthy Place, a big anniversary. We're going to talk about
that in just a moment. Because the good times they
are happening at the Healthy Place, it is a phenomenal day.
(00:22):
Today is the day you got to get in. Whether
it's westside of Madison, Sun Prairie or Fitchburg. Don't forget
today being a Wednesday. That means Tim O'Brien, the one
and only Tim O'Brien, is hanging out at the Fitchburg
location of the Healthy Place from ten until five. Love
to see you, Love to give you that high five again.
Get on in all three locations of the Healthy Place.
Tim's at the Fitchburg one. Don't forget as well. Well,
(00:43):
it's consultant standing by at find your Healthy Place dot
com as well as at the locations. Speaking of being
on those computers and those internets, whether you're on Facebook
or other social media including Instagram at find your Underscore
Healthy Place, you can find them there. They've also got
a great YouTube channel links on the Healthy Place dot
com as well. Tim. There is so much just to
get started, and there's big, big news this week. You're celebrating,
(01:04):
aren't you.
Speaker 1 (01:05):
Fifteen years dude? Yep. We have been brainstorming for months
and how we can make this week exciting. We're off
to a very cool start and I am exhilarated. It's
a fun morning. We got twenty percent off all week.
We have giveaways going on that are fun, including that
e bike, and we have a second ever version two
(01:26):
of our coupon books coming out, which have been a big, big,
big benefit this last year. We kind of put like
free items in there and you know, seventy percent off
just like fun stuff that people have been engaging with.
So we have that coming out all this week and
it's just been a bit buzz. You know, all of
our favorite people, you know, our community, like literally what
makes up the Healthy Place is the people in this store,
(01:50):
and it has just been nothing but a blast.
Speaker 2 (01:52):
It is so exciting to celebrate with you. And by
the way, Tim something also speaking of great anniversaries, how
Healthy Place celebrity.
Speaker 1 (02:01):
Eighteen years Friday for Becky and I dude, thanks for that,
and fifteen years for the Healthy Place Man is so
fun to celebrate our marriage, our family together, our business.
We have five beautiful children, thirteen, Rosie eleven, Oliver ten, Henry,
(02:21):
George three, and Charlie one. I mean, wow, that's so cool.
And just to take a step back for a minute
and be like, wow, this is pretty cool. And this
is something that's pretty cool that I didn't see coming,
you know, when I was a teenager and sort of
not doing you know, not really having my eyes open
to like what's valuable in life, you know, and you
(02:42):
just look back and you're like, hey, the hardest things
in life are truly and are really take such sacrifice
and such pain even and such muscle and such tenacity
and all the best things of life. You got to
you gotta give something to. You got to give up
to go up. You know. I kind of think you
(03:02):
got to continue to give up to stay up. I mean,
you got and I'm staying up all night every night
with these games. But I'll tell you, man, it's a
lot of joy this week. It's pretty cool.
Speaker 2 (03:13):
It's really exciting. And h and I always thank you
for getting up early with us too, and Tim, we
celebrate you, you know, you're celebrating the fifteen years, and
what a great what a great journey it's been. We're
going to talk a little bit about the history of
the Healthy Place, where you've been, where you are, and
a little clues about where you may be going as well,
but specifically this week going on right now, You've got
(03:35):
you've got some discounts and some other really cool things
going on in the stores, don't you.
Speaker 1 (03:39):
Yeah, Well, it's really been all about the community. You know.
In the beginning, you start and you say, Okay, I
think I'm going to be probably the only employee, and
I'm going to open a health food store to sort
of supply for my family, and the stores value add
is going to be selling supplements that brings health and
(04:00):
lower suffering, and there's a win win there, you know.
And that was sort of the vision in the beginning.
And then as it grows, all of a sudden, you
grow this community of customers that you've cared for in
a way that they're quite grateful. And I'm quite grateful
for the business because that's what has made it work
(04:22):
and has what has been why we have been able
to grow and be able to offer more. So it's
really all about the community. So thinking about that value.
That's where Reck and I kind of like or like, Okay,
how can we sort of spoil our community, Like what
can we do that's exciting, that's attainable for us, also
exciting e bikes and some of the other giveaways. It's
(04:43):
just been a way to say thank you to our
community for supporting us from the beginning. I have so
many people, Shawn that have been coming in just to say,
you know, thank you. Here's what the Healthy Place sort
of did for my family, Here's what the Healthy Place
has done for me. And they're they're thinking Becky and
I and I'm just like, you know, it's our teamum
(05:03):
has done such a cool job this last fifteen years.
So it's fun to get to point to the team.
It's fun to get to point to Becky behind the scenes,
which she has handled our design and our image and
I'm sort of our name and our branding and all
that from the joke that I married her for her
graphic design. And you know, we've just hit it together
(05:25):
and the kids have carried it. You know, they've sacrificed
things over the years for the business, and it's just
a sort of a celebration.
Speaker 2 (05:32):
It is great and it's such as funny as I say,
we're celebrating fifteen years, and at first I kind of
corrected myself, Wait a second, this is really about the community,
and I love that you're doing so much to give back.
And you mentioned the kiddos as well. For folks that
don't know Tim's kids very much involved with you, follow
on on Facebook and social media. You'll see them working
at the stores and spending time with mom and dad.
(05:54):
And that's such a cool thing too. Hey speak of
cool things, something that has become very very popular around
anniversary time is these really awesome coupon books. And they're back,
aren't they.
Speaker 1 (06:05):
Oh man. So last year our team was like, what
what if we make like really cool coupons that our
customers can use that you know they'd be really excited about,
you know, kind of big ones, like like like a
thirty percent off your sale or forty percent off a
Wild Theory product, which are all of our gummies for example,
or or you know, a free bar, free drink, just
(06:28):
some like fun fifty percent off of beauty items. I
think it's seventy percent of So it was these fun coubons.
We had like fifteen of them. And we made a thousand.
We're like, okay, let's just give them away and see
what happened. And we ran an autumum showing like three days,
which was really fun. We printed more. So come in
this week to make sure that you get your Cubon
book and we have made it even better this year
(06:49):
and we're super excited about it.
Speaker 2 (06:51):
That is really exciting. What a cool thing. That means.
You definitely want to get into the healthy place. Do
it today, whether it's the West Side location, Sun Prairie
or Fitchburg. Don't forget today being Wednesday, mister Tim O'Brien
hanging out in the location. Love to see your smile
and face. Love to give you a high five, loved you.
Love to give you one of those one of those
discount coupon boy.
Speaker 1 (07:11):
I have not seen you. I mean this is kind
of spell because it's fifteen years. So if I have not,
if you've been been part of the business for a while,
like make it a name. If you can come in
today just to give a high five, I would so
appreciate that. The best part of this celebration for me
has been the community kind of seeing what we have
done as a team together and to just to see
(07:31):
the testimonies coming in and the high fives and the
good vibes and so if it works out, you guys, I'm.
Speaker 2 (07:36):
Buying it's a great day to get on into the
Healthy Place west side Fitchburg and Sun Prairie of course
online find your Healthy Place dot com. That's find your
Healthy Place dot com and tip. Let's talk a little
bit about these past fifteen years and very obviously people
don't anyone that's ever owned a business knows this firsthand.
Those who haven't may not realize it's it's a significant
(07:56):
risk and a lot you gotta have a lot of
faith in yourself. Got to have a lot of faith
period to get to where, you know, to get into it.
You guys have had a great, you know, a really
really great story behind the Healthy Place. Let's talk a
little bit about how it all started and kind of
what led you to where we are today.
Speaker 1 (08:13):
Tim, Yeah, thanks so much for that, man. I mean,
both of our our moms went through a bit of
a health crisis that sort of led the family, both
of our families towards natural alternatives and towards education because
of the type of illnesses they had, and through that search.
(08:33):
You know, the natural alternatives ended up helping both of
them quite a bit. One was a cancer story and
the the other one and more of an autoimmune disease.
And so so from those two stories that that kind
of got into becunize DNA. You know, like we were
we want to view ourselves as natural alternatives to our
(08:55):
medical system, like we want to link arms with our
with our doctors and our pharmacists, and had that in
our DNA coming into our relationship in two thousand and
eight is when we met. And then we got married
in two thousand and nine, and from sixteen years just
celebrated last Friday, and you know, so pretty close to
after we got married in two thousand and nine, like
(09:19):
this was sort of burning in my heart to sort
of like start this this health food store, this supplement store,
and she was my biggest supporter, and we did it together.
We decided less less like partner in this because she
had her graphic design and kind of marketing education and skills,
and I had my like I just really liked people,
and I really like supplements and life and stuff. So
(09:41):
there's that side of it, and we just sort of
partnered and then one by one we our team came together.
I mean, Kate is Becky's mom my mother in law,
and she became this executive for our company. She helped
put our company together. Like Becky and I are both
sort of visionary and sort of like passionate, and we
both have our roles, the responsibilities, et cetera. And we
(10:04):
didn't have anybody for like details or like well maybe
you should count the cashtro or down, I mean like
basic basic business stuff. So Kate really helped us, you know.
And then then we founded an inventory manager Aaron, and
then operations and Lindsay. And that's our sort of leadership
team today is those five. And you can just you
can just see that the management team has come together
and more than ever, we're all marching to this beat
(10:26):
of the same drum of Okay, let's get real strategic.
You know, we meet on a very rate, multiple times
a week as a team to be like, let's get strategic.
How can we actually move the needle in people's health
when it comes to supplements, Like what deficiencies? What pieces
of education can we give them for their health, Like
the sequence of eating your food, for example, can manage
(10:46):
insulin spikes or glucose spikes and average glue sprests and
glucose just by eating your vegetables first, then protein fats,
then glucose and starches. So there's these little truths that
can really help change people's lives. And we're getting strategic
of how can we minimize suffering because that's an intervision statement,
and how can we increase quality life because that's an
intervision statement, And how can we really help our community
(11:08):
in a way that's tangible. And that's where we've been
getting better and better at this last fifteen years. And
it's that's just why this week is a celebration.
Speaker 2 (11:17):
You talked about that being tangible, and I think that's
one of the really cool things about the Healthy Place.
And we'll talk about some of the really cool things
that are going to be going on at the Healthy Place,
Opportunities to get tangible results and see those tangible results
as we talk about the Healthy Place and chat with
Tim O'Brien celebrating fifteen years of serving Madison the Healthy
ten years, dude, one more year. It's gonna it's gonna
(11:40):
have its tempts in about in about six months.
Speaker 1 (11:43):
That's terrifying.
Speaker 2 (11:44):
Yeah, great data stuff on in, say hello. I know

Speaker 2 (12:13):
Stop up, say stop, stock up and say hello. And
of course Tim would love to get a high five.
If you're gonna be at Fitchburg one two day, get
on and there we're continue our conversation with Tim O'Brien.
Talked a little bit about what's going on this week.
We talked a little bit about the history. What about
the future. Is something on the horizon, there's something new.

not sitting still working to get get some details from Tim.

southern Wisconsin. And it's a great day to get on in.
They're giving you a great week to get on in.
(13:18):
Give me a little thank you and some other really
cool stuff. It's a fun event taking place at the
Healthy Place again. Whether you get into the West Side location,
sun Prairie or Fitchburg, don't forget Tim is hanging out
today at the Fitchburg location because he is there on Wednesdays.
And Tim real quick before we talk a little bit
about the future. One of the things that always impressed
me from the first time I ever set foot in
a Healthy Place. The first time I ever saw your
(13:39):
website and we talk you mentioned of course you guys,
you and Becky celebrating sixteen years of marriage. One of
the things that is super impressive about the Healthy Place
is one how the stores are designed, but also the
social media presence. I think sometimes people will see that
stuff and they'll say, oh, that the logos and the
design and all that stuff so beautiful. This must be
(14:01):
some giant corporate chain or like a franchise or something.
We are lucky the only three healthy Places in the
world are right here in Dane County, aren't they.
Speaker 1 (14:10):
Thanks so much, man. Yeah, that is a testimony to
Becky and our team. And you know, I joked that
I married her for a graphic design skills, and that's
from the day I met her. You know. One of
the first things she gave me as a gift when
we were dating is this little brochure she had made.
And what it said on the brochure was the cutest
(14:30):
Boy brochure and it was a picture of me and
I was supposedly the cutest boy. And I was like, heck, yes,
I want to marry this girl, you know, and so
but She's My point is from the beginning, she's been
so talented, Like she makes things, and I, you know,
growing up, you know, we would purchase gifts for each other,
which is fine too, and I have warm memories of
(14:51):
my birthdays and and for Becky, like she would make
things for people, and I'm like that was so meaningful
to me early on, and so in general kind of
bringing that into the healthy place, and like, how can
we make this a more beautiful experience? And the way
Becky summarizes it sometimes is like taking a pill isn't
like whether it's a supplement or a pharmaceutical drug, like
(15:11):
is not necessarily like an enjoyable thing. So how can
we make that taking a pill like a little bit better?
And maybe as a store, we can make our experience
one that is energetic and one that gives to the
individual and sort of like has the opportunity of encouraging
them or gaining education or like like thinking about that stuff.
(15:34):
And that's where she's her vision for what we've created
and my vision for what we've created has worked so
cool together because like the experience matters.
Speaker 2 (15:44):
Tim, I got to ask too, as you know, in
the past fifteen years we've seen changes on like here
in the state of Wisconsin, CBD and THHC. How is
that front kind of changed and how has that option
kind of changed for folks and really helped help folks
here in Dane County.
Speaker 1 (16:01):
Yeah, I mean that's perfect. So we have four thousand
products and we have hundreds of different brands and out
of no and I spent my most of my life
in the supplement industry and so for CBD to suddenly
come to the stage in twenty seventeen was really big
for me because I have this toolbox, and I have
all these tools for a reason, and our wellness consultants
(16:24):
spend three months training on that before they can work
with customers, because you want to know what you're working with,
quality wise, sourcing, forms of ingredients, the basics, et cetera.
And then to have a tool added that can help
with people's pain, you know, and say with THHC, then pain, stress, anxiety, depression,
sleep issues in a new different way than the other tools.
(16:47):
So now that's that's twenty seventeen to twenty twenty five. Today,
The way I look at it is we have this
beautiful toolbox, so it's almost like CBDTD has its place
in the toolbox, and every person that comes into one
of our stores, shops, online, calls, emails, they're each treated
as an individual and asked questions of like what are
(17:11):
you looking, how can I help you? What is a
health challenge for you? And then we take our toolbox
and we say this has been working for the community.
If it doesn't work for you, let us know there's
another one that usually does when this one doesn't work.
And most of the time the first one has a difference.
And there's a difference maker whether for pain or stress
(17:31):
or any sort of health condition. And in quality of life,
you should feel a difference off of the multivitamin you take.
You should feel relief from the curcumen you take. You
should sleep better with this sleep supplement you take. And
you talk about the future, that's where Becky and I
are like, how can we get more strategic there? And
(17:52):
that's where we want to get into more lab work
with our customers. We want to encourage more functional medicine,
license atropathic directed sort of care, and like, how could we,
Becky and I, how could we learn from practitioners as
far as how to educate a community right, because now
(18:13):
it's next level. The last fifteen years we've done some
great works and great impact, and the next fifteen years,
it's like, how can we really prove, truly move the
needle on things like life expectancy and things like pharmaceutical
drugs that are taken that aren't needed, or degenerative disease
even that might be created in the body because of epigenetics,
(18:33):
and some of these mind blowing truths that people need
to hear about. How can we educate consistently and strategically
with a team of folks that know what they're talking
about and in a consistent manner that leads our community
into a better quality of life, which is kind of
what it's about. It's like life and health are a
gift and they both need to be fought for, and
(18:55):
they both need to be educated around because people don't
know what they don't know, and if they could do
something even very small that would greatly impact the quality
of their life, that would help them and that would
help those around them.
Speaker 2 (19:07):
And it's pretty amazing we talk about and I always
like to say, today's a great day to get on
it and start that journey, you know, And there's a
reason I like to tell people that is really I
think sometimes we put this stuff off and you know,
it's always what we'll get to it. We'll get to it.
It's a great day to get on it. It's a
great day to start that. And of course we as
we look as we talk with Tim O'Brien looking at
the celebration of the fifteen year anniversary of the founding
(19:29):
of the Healthy Place, what's going on right now? There
is no better day, There is no better time than
today to get on into the Healthy Place. Where you
