Speaker 1 (00:01):
Freeable. Good morning and happy day to you, sir, how
Art Thou.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
I'm doing fantastic, my friend. Great to talk with you.

Speaker 1 (00:09):
I am doing pretty well as well.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
Yes, it's great.

Speaker 1 (00:13):
Do you ever have those mornings that you feel a
little smooth, you like you're you woke up, you brush
your teeth well, instead of the hurried you know you're lost,
you made your bed, You're feeling ready for the day.
I mean, that's how I'm feeling this morning.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
It's great to I feel the energy coming through. Yeah,
you're feeling smooth like creamy peanut butter this morning. I
know that I'm feeling, my friend. We've got a lot
of fun stuff to talk about, and one of the
things we're gonna focus on this week is something that
that you brought up on the program before and it's
very important, and I think we're gonna kind of do
a bit of a deep dive into the end of
the Foundational five what those are, why those things are

(00:49):
so important. We're gonna get the details from Tim on
that in just a moment. A few things so to
keep in mind as we talk with Tim. Of course,
it's a great opportunity if you've got a question I'd
love to get you on the air six eight three
two one thirteen ten. That's six so eight three two
one thirteen ten. We'll get you on there a Tim
O'Brien from the Healthy Place. It give you a twenty
five dollars gift card for calling in. Don't forget as well.
Today is a Wednesday, Tim, What does that mean on

(01:12):
a Wednesday?

Speaker 1 (01:12):
There's something. I'm working at the Fitchburg Store ten to five.
So every Wednesday I work at the Fitchburg Store ten
to five to be part of the community. I've been,
you know, trapped in this office over here in Fitchburg,
over behind the Bariks, you know, for about five years,
twenty twenty to twenty twenty five. No one knew where
I was. I was just in my office with my
head in the books and figuring business stuff out and

(01:33):
trying to figure out how to impact the community and about
what is it now sean of almost a year every Wednesday,
and it's been my favorite work day of the week
because it's an imitation of the community to come on out.
There's hundreds of customers that I journeyed with from twenty
ten to twenty twenty that I developed relationships with you know,
and maybe it's in the thousands, I don't know, but

(01:54):
it's certainly hundreds. And people you care about you just
develop a relationship and you learn about their health and
you work towards health goals. And then second, in the community,
there's other businesses, So I get to network with other
businesses all the time. You know, local is real, and
there's something powerful that happens when you invest in local,
You invest in your communities, you build the fabric, you
care about the neighbor next to you. There's something to

(02:16):
that that I've sort of been inspired with in a
new light this last year. And so Becky and I
are you excited about building relationships with other businesses. So
it's an invitation if anything in the health industry or
that makes people better in general, like come over to
the Fitchburg store ten to five, as it's the perfect

(02:37):
time for me to be able to connect with you
and chat strategy on how we can impact our communities
in a more consistent and strategic way that really moves
the needle. And that's what gets me excited. And then
there's a third group two that's like, Hey, I think
that we can help you get to closer to your goals.

(02:58):
Like I'm being pretty transparent about where we're going. We're
building a foundational care clinic. It's it's gonna have functional
medicine doctors, license natural paths, nurse practitioners who have overseeing
medical doctor from the state's side of things. And it's
been a just scope, I mean a side of things,
and it's it's gonna be really cool next year, Sean.

(03:20):
And it's like it takes a community to build a community.
And that's what I want to get across because it's
not about one business. It's not about uh, you know,
it's about the It's about your health, it's about your life.
It's about people understanding and getting on a sense of
awareness of the fact that their health is a gift

(03:41):
and it's worth not just fighting for, but helping other
people fight for. And you can't do that if you
don't take care of yourself in the most foundational ways.
So we want to inspire people. And then the second
thing is life is a gift and life is worth
fighting for. And people sort of lose a sense of
understanding there too, They sort of lose the light in

(04:02):
their eyes. You know, I got five kids, so I'm
looking at my three year old each day as his
eyes are beaming for life. Right, and Charlie is eighteen
months sixteen months, and he's like beaming for life. He's
discovering things for the first time. And here I am
just turned forty, and my eyes are just as big
because I am experiencing things for the first time. Like

(04:23):
Becky and I are taking risks that we've never taken before. Financially,
we're taking risks that are backed with a return that
is going to impact something that is meaningful to us.
Because it's about the journey, right, It's not even about
a destination. So it doesn't even matter if I get
to my actual goal, which is like increasing life expectancy

(04:46):
in Madison, Right, that's a dream I have. Like minimizing
suffering in Madison, that's a dream I have, Like minimizing
unnecessary pharmaceutical drugs or surgeries that our doctors would agree with.
Like we have the best medical doctors in the world
here in Madison, Wisconsin. The best nurse practitioner is the
best our ends. I mean, I've been talking to them
because Becky and I are putting together this foundational care clinic.

(05:10):
It's going to be called the Healthy Place Holistic Clinic,
and it's January fifth, is going to be open today.
I'm so I'm like trembling, Sean. I gotta just calm
down because there's a lot of work to be done
and anyone that can hear this can probably help. So
it's like a reminder too. In your own sphere, you
have a scope, you have a world you know within

(05:30):
your sphere that you can impact, and maybe it's yourself
right now, Like I'm talking to Becky this morning, like
we have to take care of each other. We have
to take care of each other, Becky. You know, I
was on one side of the couch and I'm on
the other and we're just talking, like the babies aren't
sleeping right now, and there's some new stresses that came
into our life that are pretty stressful and on our

(05:50):
field of control, and you have to let go. And
it can torture adrenal glands, it can torture sleep, it
can torture your quality of life. And if you don't
take that stuff seriously and slow down enough to look
behind you and look at your life right look at
your health, look at your family, look at where you're

(06:13):
going like just slow down enough to look back. Like
if you're if you're watering your garden and you you
have a trickle coming out, what would you do? You'd
stop everything, turn around and go undo the kinks? Because
but what we do in this culture is we take
the little tinkle, trinkles whatever, all that that little and

(06:39):
you just you just keep going. You just keep going
with with the little trickle. There's the word and and
but but what what how much faster it would be
to go undo the kink? So we just keep running
with the trickle. So that's my speech, and uh, I'm I.
I think everybody that heard that should should think about that.

Speaker 2 (06:57):
It's you talk about too, about the opportunity you know,
you know we think a lot of times folks stopping
in and the great relationships you've developed over the years
with folks and people getting in and giving you the
high fives and really getting excited for those wellness consultations.
The thing you touched on there too, which I don't
think we've talked about a lot, which is people in
other industries as well that they've got I know you

(07:18):
you love sharing information, you love chatting with people, you
love helping people, people that have interests, are curious about
what you're doing at the Healthy Place. You love folks,
just stopping in and starting that conversation, even if it's
not for something specific, just stopping in to say, hey,
how you been, what's going on?

Speaker 1 (07:35):
Yeah? Yeah, Well it kind of aligned with what I
said earlier that it's not about one business or like
one person doing one thing. You know, like we have
too much of that in this world. You know, everyone
building their own kingdoms. It's like we got to build
one kingdom, right, Like, let's take care of each other.
So okay, yeah, like okay, taking a step back, the

(07:55):
place we play in the community is a resource, and
everyone's not gonna need us, right, Everyone's not gonna need
the healthy Place in their life in the in like
this this way. That's super consistent, right, But we're a
resource for everyone. So everyone in Dane County can view
the Healthy Place as a resource. And what's what resources

(08:18):
do we have? Well, just a couple of things. You know,
we're not doctors, we're not pharmacists, we don't pretend to be,
and we need our medical side. We're partners too. We're
a natural alternative too, right, we want to educate people
on natural alternatives through supplements, through nutraceuticals that are working
for tens of thousands of people in this community. And
what we're really good at is sharing what's working for

(08:41):
chronic pain supplement wise, what's working, what brands, what forms
of ingredients, what's absorbing well, what are what potency do
you need to really get the inflammation down. We're good
at that what supplements are working for our community for
chronic pain, What supplements are good and working for chronic stress,
anxiety depression like adrenal fatigue, chronic adrenal fatigue, sleep problems,

(09:06):
gut issues. It's the same questions every day. It's like
the eighty twenty rule, So eighty percent of our customers
will ask the same twenty percent of the questions. And
so we've gotten really good at because we have two
hundred different brands, thousands of products, So we get really
good at recommending which supplements work for what. And then

(09:27):
we have a great return policy because if it doesn't
work for you, you don't want to waste a hundred bucks,
so bring it back. You get a credit towards the
next best idea, and if the first idea doesn't work,
the second one does most of the time. It's one
of the cos it's a pretty cool framework and strategy
that's been working.

Speaker 2 (09:45):
It is a pretty cool framework. As you talk about
the opportunity to get on into the Healthy Place, whether
it's Westside, Fitchburger, Sun Prairie location. Online, you can find
the Healthy Place the website finds your Healthy Place dot com.
That's fine, your Healthyplace dot com. Facebook and social media
they are there as well. If you're on Instagram, for example,
just go to add find your underscore healthy plays you
will find them right there. Talking this morning with Tim

(10:06):
O'Brien from the Healthy Place, we're going to talk a
little bit about and get into those foundational five real
quick too. Tim. We mentioned, of course today being a Wednesday,
you'll be hanging out at the Fitchburg location. Something that
I don't think we've talked about, which is, oh, come
on double rewards cash back day?

Speaker 1 (10:21):
What you got it? Yeah? Once once per month, Yes,
on Wedchday we do a double cash back day, which
we have rewards. You know, it's two to three percent
back rewards. So that's cool in general, but on double
cash back Day, I know it's just like, emotionally is
too much to take. My emotional capacity is just trembling
right now at double So that's four to six percent

(10:45):
cash back. So I'm one of those guys that like
make sure I have the sort of best cards to
have the best rewards. And we have five kids, so traveling,
you can imagine, is like insanely expensive. So Becky's like
a ninja and it comes to like, Okay, what airlines
do we need to go on to get what rewards?
To get what free tickets you know each year. Yeah,

(11:06):
so I'm a big of rewards. So when we created
this plan, like if people shop right with us, they
can get six percent cash back on everything they buy
from us. It would be a matter of each Wednesday,
which Wednesday is this of the month? The first one
or the second? Second one rights to be the second? Yep, right, yeah,
I should know that it's the second Wednesday of everyone

(11:27):
is the double. So anyway, Yes, today's a good day
to stop in.

Speaker 2 (11:31):
Today's a great day to get on into the whether
it's Fitzburg where Tim is hanging out west side, some
prayer location in the Healthy Place again. Three locations for
you online find your healthy place dot com. Let's find
your Healthy Place dot com. We'll dig into the foundational five.
We we'll do that with Tim next as ask the
experts with the Healthy Place continues right here on thirteen
ten wu I b A thirteen ten wui b A

(11:53):
and ask the experts hanging out with Timo Brian from
the Healthy Place online find your a Healthy Place dot com.
It's fine your Healthy Place dot com three locations west
side of Madison, Fitchburg and Sun Prairie mentioned the website
find your Healthy Place dot com. Don't forget also Facebook
and social media tims something big with the Healthy Place
and understanding when it comes to nutriceuticals and understanding really

(12:15):
ways to help improve your health. It comes down to
something called the Foundational Five. And I know you've talked
touched on it a little here and a little there.
Let's really get into the foundational five. What are they
and why are they so transformative and so important for folks?

Speaker 1 (12:28):
Yeah? Absolutely, it really gives a roadmap for folks. And
that's what I liked about discovering the Foundational five some
years ago. There's a great book called The Supplement Pyramid
that clarifies the Foundational five in an expanded view. But
I'll do it in about five minutes right now. And

(12:50):
it's just a roadmap for people because there's so many
different supplements out there and they don't really know what
supplements to take next. So if they're taking this, the okay,
what's the next best thing for me? So this is
obviously like an umbrella view. Right When people come into
our stores, we ask questions and depending on what their

(13:11):
pain points are, health challenges, finance goals, as far as
costs that they're comfortable with, these are all parts of
the puzzle when we make recommendations for people. So we
don't do commission because we don't want that to be
a distraction, So we ask questions and that leads to
the conversation. Okay, So from a big picture though, everyone
benefits for the most part from the foundational five, like

(13:33):
everyone and the thirty seconds on each one kind of
goes like this. So the most important perhaps is a
good quality multi vitamin because the amount of people that
are nutritionally deficient is pretty massive, and everyone is nutritionally
deficient in one way or another. If you got a

(13:54):
blood test, which I encourage people to do on a
regular basis, get a full men's panel, fullman's panels, see
where you're actual vitamins are at where you're at and
your blood so okay, So the multi vitamin we're all
nutritionally efficient. Most people take like a mass market multi
vitamin centrums one a day's and these are heat compressed

(14:14):
with like twenty thousand pounds of pressure per square inch,
So you're getting this stone going through your body, which
is why when folks don't have a super strong stomach,
the pills actually go straight through them and plumbers find
them on the other side, which is kind of a
gross joke that they make on a regular basis with
bummers that I've need. But anyway, so porta potty guys too,
I bring it up and they're like, all right, we're
seeing those. So multi vitamin, big deal. A good quality multivitamin.

(14:38):
You feel the first time you take it. You feel
energy burst, you feel stressed reduction, you feel more mental
clarity and focus, and you see about six weeks hair, skin,
and nail benefits. We see that constant feedback from our community.
Lively Vitamin Co is the brand I own, so I
obviously love that one, but we have a dozen other
brands too that are great quality multised So point is

(14:59):
if you're not take any supplements, get on a good
quality multi vitamin and not a crappy one. Okay, number
two omega threes. The most studied nutriceutical in the world
is vitamin D. The second most studied nutrient nutritutical is
omega threes from fish, like over twenty thousand clinical trials.
It's probably over that now, even higher because that number

(15:21):
was from a while back. So every cell in your
body is surrounded with essentral fatty acid. So every system,
every organ, everything gets nourished through Omega threes from fish
is my favorite. And you don't want farmed fish. You
want a clean source wildfish, so from Alaska for example,
or north of Sweden in the Nordic regions for example,

(15:44):
So Nordic Naturals, great brand, Terry natural, great brand source
from say salmon, you feel from the higher EPA DHA.
So the scam in this part of the industry is
that there are a rancid oils for one, which is like, what,
so people are taking rancid oils every day? Yeah, that's

(16:06):
super regular because the FDA doesn't regulate the industry, and
people are surprised when I say, like, well, some more
regulation would be good because the publics being lied to.
Like often when mass market supplements are tested, they come
in at levels lower than what the label says, So
that's no bueno. So moving on Omega three's heart health,

(16:27):
brain health, circulatory health, skin vision. Just touching the tip
on Omega threes. If you're taking a multiviem in the
next most important supplement, you can take Omega three from
fish and get a good quality one in a natural
triglyceride form, not a mass market produced. So we have

(16:48):
some great places in Dane County. Just to prove my
point that it's not just about me. Community pharmacy produces
some great quality products. Holy Apothecary over in Monona, great
quality supplement, community pharmacy, great quality supplements. I give all
those guys shout outs. They do a great job. Buy
supplements from them, not market, not mass market. It supports

(17:10):
local and you're getting a better product. Okay, So if
you're taking a multi taken Omega three, you're taking both
of those. Take an anti inflammatory. Inflammation and glucose are
like the absolute bomb in your health and in your life.
That's linked to like all degenerative disease. I'll say that again.

(17:33):
Omega inflammation and glucose imbalances, spikes et cetera, too high
rest fasting level et cetera. Are like a bomb to
your health, linking to all degenerative disease, inflammation, et cetera,
the four horsemen, cardiovascular disease, dementia, Alzheimer's cancer, all of

(17:58):
those massively connected. If you get your glucose levels and
inflammation balanced sooner, better, faster, your life expectancy goes from
like seventy six to ninety seven. Wow, I mean it's
insane and I can support that. If I could find
that article, that probably could ask people's help for all. Okay, So,

(18:18):
if you're taking multi omegas, add an anti inflammatory. Kirkcuman
is my favorite. BCM ninety five is a great form.
Percu Gin is a great form. Phytogen I think it's
called is a great form kercuman my favorite. Bosphelia is
a good one, though, Get anti and eat an anti
inflammatory diet. Okay, that's a little bit of a tangent.
If you're taking those three, take a probiotic. That's your

(18:39):
next most important. This is foundational five. You're good and bad.
Bacteria are always in a race whichever one's winning literally
decides the state and house for the rest of your body.
Your gut is your second brain. Sometimes people call it
your first brain because your brain is often controlled by
your stomach sometimes you know, for food, but also like

(18:59):
in decision making. Like it's some really interesting stuff. So
gut health is huge. Doctor Axe is a hero of mine.
Brenda Watson is a hero of mine. These two educated America,
and we're the first to educate America on gut health.
And they own brands like Ancient Nutrition that I sell
and recommend, Vital Planet like I sell and recommend. Okay,

(19:20):
so if you're taking the first three multi omega, uh.

Speaker 2 (19:26):
Oh oh, we've come to four O five.

Speaker 1 (19:32):
Excuse omega, anti inflammatory, take it probiotic. I got it.
Oh yeah, still got it, baby. And the last one,
if you're taking those four is take an antioxidant. Take
it for recharging mitochondria, which is the furnace powerhouse to yoursell.
Take it for anti aging purposes. There's some incredible science.
One of my favorite books is uh Tony Robbins. You know,

(19:53):
he gets me all excited. I just jump at his
I don't know, he's just has so much energy. So
now I lost my train. But he talks about in
his book Life Force. It really inspired me because there's
these antioxidants that are truly slowing the anti aging process.
And he sort of like debunks some of the bs

(20:15):
in the supplement industry, which I was like, heck yes,
because that stuff really irritates me. Yes, and the antioxidants
recharging mitochondria, anti aging, mental energy. There's a product called
Perfect ten. We sell hundreds of those people Field Benefit
first day. So that's the foundational five five minutes I
think it was.

Speaker 2 (20:34):
That was perfect.

Speaker 1 (20:35):
You'll have to track me. I'm out of breath. I
need a nap.

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
