Speaker 1 (00:10):
This is the Hub on Hollywood and iHeartRadio podcast. I'm
your co host James Rojas.
Speaker 2 (00:14):
I'm the other co host, Jamie Blanco.
Speaker 1 (00:16):
On this week's episode, What do Ben Affleck and Karen
Reid have in common?
Speaker 2 (00:22):
Canton?
Speaker 1 (00:23):
It's not just their accents. We will explain, especially for
those who are not from Boston or from Massachusetts. Yeah,
the whole Karen Reid thing in a very tight, succinct summary.
All right, lights camera action production on Boston Blue is underway.
It is the spin off of Blue Bloods. That's right,
that's the show. Also, what also is showing up on
(00:46):
so many people's feeds and across YouTube are these reaction
videos around this new movie on Netflix, Demon huntersp demon Hunters.
What more do you need to watch this film? We
can to get into that full spoilers I understand, and
some lore.
Speaker 2 (01:04):
And some more in the future.
Speaker 1 (01:07):
J Popps, Oh goodness. But first, Jamie, we are on
a mission, mission to save comedies.
Speaker 2 (01:14):
Let's go.
Speaker 1 (01:15):
So, the new movie The Naked Gun starring Liam Neeson
and Pamela Anderson comes out today. We were recording Friday,
so hits theaters August first, and this is the buzz
is very positive so far. People are liking the movie.
My wife and I we really want to watch the
movie in theaters, so we had to figure out a
time to do so. Because this is one of those
(01:37):
movies where people have been waiting for it. They didn't
realize they needed this combo of Pam Anderson liam Neeson
and they're on a mission to not only obviously get
butts into seats, but to also save comedies because apparently
there are fewer and fewer comedy is being shown at
the movie theaters.
Speaker 2 (01:56):
The more I think about it, the more you're right,
Because when you texted me earlier, you're like, oh, come
up with a list of your favorite comedies. I'm like,
everything that I can think of is like from twenty
years ago or ten years ago. There's not as many.
Speaker 1 (02:10):
Of course, there have been funny movies, but none that
really kind of like that cure slapstick that are either
pure slapstick or reach all audiences or all demographics. Yeah,
that really striking nerve in the pop culture societal zeitgeist.
If you will, yes, yes, and so yeah. So se
Liam Neeson released a PSA called Save Comedy, and you
(02:32):
can actually check it out on the help on Hollywood.
We'll do a little bloop bubble where you can click
on that. But basically, this montage of this PSA showed
a bunch of clips of other iconic classic movies that
have strucken nerve a positive nerve for America in the world,
including Anchorman, Tropic Thunder, Clueless, Zoolander, Nacho Libre, Tommy Boy,
(02:57):
and in there there's the text reads again Liam Neeson
is also pitching this, but there's also text that says,
and remember when you're watching this, imagine what's your name
McLaughlin Sarah McLoughlin. The in the an Angel. This is
that for for movies for comedies, but they say every
single hour in Hollywood, a comedy script is rejected. In Hollywood,
(03:20):
fewer comedies came out last year than ever before, and
soon none will come out at all. However, with just
a purchase of one ticket, you can do your parts
to save comedies. And there's a there's a funny they
post this website, and so of course I checked it out.
It's savecomedy dot org and what do you have not
you're not should be clicked on that? Do you imagine
(03:42):
savecomedy dot org ghoest.
Speaker 2 (03:44):
I would hope that it would be a lot of
like Liam Neeson being ridiculous and all like the New
Movie sort of promotion.
Speaker 1 (03:54):
Exactly things like okay, great, exactly right to where you
can buy tickets for a Naked Gun this one.
Speaker 2 (04:00):
Look.
Speaker 1 (04:00):
I love the Naked Gun series, and so when I
heard that they're making a new one, you know, reboots
or continuations at legacy sequels as as I call them,
you're always kind of wondering if it's another you know,
cash grab. Of course they want money, so that's already
a given, but you're thinking, are they going to put
the hearts in it and make this a good one?
Speaker 2 (04:18):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (04:18):
And as soon as they cast the announced cast, I
knew it was. It was perfect Liam Neeson, Yeah, he's
rye approach and delivery. The trailers look really good. And
then you have Pamela Anderson attached to this project as well,
and I'm already sold. Houy a sinker.
Speaker 2 (04:36):
Okay. Well, here's here's a little bit of my concern
with rebooting something like The Naked Gun. Is that a
lot of that humor worked back then will it work
for modern audiences?
Speaker 1 (04:48):
I think I think slapstick in general, if done well,
is is something that can stand the tests of time,
and we see that with many classic films. Now there's
some you know, depending what movie you're watching, there's some
SKay jokes that may not land today, that may be
seen as too sensitive or insensitive in a way. So
in those senses, there are some movies that have not
aged well. For example, like Revenge of the Nerds and
(05:12):
Animal House. People say, oh, those are classic comedies, and like, yeah,
they're classics, but if you go back and watch them,
you're you're kind of doing this a lot. You're tugging
on your collar like this, like deep little sexual assaults there.
I was right to believe that for YouTube. But but
but there's a lot of stuff there that does not
age well, or like sneaking into like a sorority house
(05:35):
and stealing panties like so there's a lot of things
that are like when you're a kid, you're like, yeah,
but then even back then is a different time.
Speaker 3 (05:42):
Or like all of blazing saddles, I will I will
die on this hill stands up to the stay every joke,
I one hundred percent think so, uh again, given that
given the contexts and everything in the film, it's perfect,
and the message they're trying to convey with those jokes
is lampooning the idiocracy of certain opinions and beliefs that
(06:02):
I think holds up even maybe more so today.
Speaker 1 (06:05):
So I would die in that.
Speaker 2 (06:06):
Go we put.
Speaker 1 (06:07):
Yeah, I should have put that in my honorable mention
because that got me thinking, you know, save comedy, what
are our favorite comedies of all time? I think I
have a good like, Yeah, a good like movie for
each type of comedy.
Speaker 2 (06:22):
And this is sort of just to remind people what
we're gonna lose, what we're losing out on exactly, to
save exactly why don't you kick us off?
Speaker 1 (06:29):
Okay, so my first one, this one is Slapstick. It's
off the wall, it's parody. It's the goofiest thing you
can imagine, and a lot of people agree with me
that they love it as one of their favorite movies.
Kung Paw Enter the Fist. I have talked about this
years ago on this podcast about this film. This guy
he took old like nineteen seventies kung fu movie archived
(06:53):
film and made his own movie around it and did
all the voice dubbing over over it and with the
joke of like you know when they voiced up, you
know movies from China or Japan, you had that delay.
You see the list moving, but they don't the verbs,
the words don't match the lips. So it's all that
and in this filled with gags and hilario, hilarious you
(07:14):
know situations and ridiculous over the top stupidity. But because
of that, Kung Pow Enter the Fist will always be
on one of my favorite top movie lists.
Speaker 2 (07:26):
Well that just makes me think of something. It wasn't
on my list, but now it needs to be. And
honorable mention The.
Speaker 1 (07:34):
Last Dragon, The Last Dragon with a.
Speaker 2 (07:36):
Starring time Off. This was a nineteen eighties film cult classes.
We met him and we did meet time Off. I
embarrassed myself in front of you.
Speaker 1 (07:43):
We want to talk about that, Yeah, but yeah, it's about.
Speaker 2 (07:48):
This young guy growing up in New York City who
does kung fu and there's this like this bully, this gangster,
I don't know what, this kung fu master named Sho
Nuff and he wants to.
Speaker 1 (08:01):
Be you know, he's the best. He's got the.
Speaker 2 (08:02):
Glow right and he's got and he will not leave
the you know, time Mack's character alone, and you know
Bruce Wow, what's the name, Oh god, Bruce Leroy okay, right,
not Bruce Lee, Bruce Leroy, right. And so Bruce lebro
is all peaceful and show's coming after him and his
family and he's got to get the glow, right, and
(08:25):
it's all just eighties nonsense. And and then there's like
a pop star in there too. And at the end,
like there's this epic battle that's like super Is this streaming?
I don't know if it's streaming.
Speaker 1 (08:40):
Do you have a DVD? Yeah, if you want to
see this movie, go to Jamie's house.
Speaker 2 (08:44):
Oh my god, I love it so much. Yeah, come
over to my house. Yeah right, But it's so so good.
It makes me feel so good. It makes me laugh
like every single time. Uh. And at the end, of
course he gets the glow. It's just it's amazing.
Speaker 1 (09:01):
It's amazing, the last Dragon, the last Dragon. So that's
a honorable mention? Or is does that pump another.
Speaker 2 (09:07):
It bumps something off the list? It's got to be
on the list.
Speaker 1 (09:10):
Okay, cool? My next one, dumb and Dumber, of course,
doesn't get any better than that. Yeah, you have Jeff
Daniels you have, you have Jim Jim Carrey, you have
Jim care I was gonna call him Tom Carrey. Jim Carrey.
That's one of those movies that I've watched a million times,
and it just gets better with age, because when you
watch the movie as a kid, you're watching these two
(09:30):
buffoons just stumble over each other and do dumb, awkward things,
and it's silly, and Jim Carrey is making faces and things,
birds heads are falling off. And then when you get older,
like you pay more and more attention to the plot,
and then you catch subtle jokes or like very like
things that you wouldn't notice or get as a as
a kid. So I think that's one of those movies
(09:51):
that's enjoyable for every age range, and so dumb and dumber,
that's a classic that that will live in you know,
my my heart forever.
Speaker 2 (09:59):
Perpetuit exactly. Next on my list is pretty much I
don't know if I can do this, it's our podcast.
I'm gonna just do it anyway. Every mel Brooks movie
ever made, so from Young Frankenstein, two Spaceballs, all of
the above, but which is coming up now, Demand's almost
(10:22):
one hundred years old, literally and we're finally getting you know,
the merchant stuff. So I'm very excited about that. But
I think maybe my favorite of all, and it's not
usually on the top list, but it was mine, is
A History of the World Part two, just for the
fact that there is this this part where they're running
away from like the castle or from the Roman whatever,
(10:45):
from the Emperor, right, and they're looking out the window
and they're like, the streets are crawling with soldiers and
you look us and there literally they're literally crawling soldiers,
and yeah, I kind of laugh historically every single time.
And it's the dry, like literal humor. It's everything that
(11:06):
Melbrooks stands for in every one of his movies. So
it's impossible to pick one, right, So all melbrook.
Speaker 1 (11:13):
Movies, Okay, we'll give you, we'll give you, We'll let
you do that. Okay, because it is our podcast, we
can do whatever you want exactly. Excellent. Next time my
list super Bad. I've said this numerous times on the
podcast that super Bad is one of my all time
favorite movie theater experiences. When I first watched it, I
came out in two thousand and eight, I was eighteen
years old, so I was friends at the midnight showing
(11:35):
and the whole entire theater was packed and everybody was
rocking in their seats with laughter, and myself included. And
that movie so funny and one of those movies that
you can go back. The thing is they made that
movie in a way where you could watch it at
any time period where it doesn't rely on certain technology
or phones per se or anything. Really you could watch
(11:57):
it in the bubble that it's in, So that that's great.
And plus you have so many big stars. You have
obviously Michael Sarah, you have Jonah Hill, you have Seth Rogan,
you have Emma Stone, em the Stone's in there. You
also have Bill Hayter. So it's a it's a it's
an all star cast. Fantastic.
Speaker 2 (12:16):
And on that vein of similar movies, the Hangover and.
Speaker 1 (12:20):
Hangover to Hangover is in my it should be in
my honorable mentions. But yeah, Hangover.
Speaker 2 (12:25):
I don't think I ever had like a theater experience
where I laughed like outrageously, like out loud and like
was tearing in the eyes like as much as I
did when we went to go see the hang And
I think the Hangover to was better. Is the Hangover
to Hangover with the Tiger and Mike Tyson.
Speaker 1 (12:45):
The second the second one they go into Thailand or
so they go somewhere. Yeah, so that's two and three.
I they didn't exist, but Hangover the first one so good.
It's so good. So that's a that's that's a one,
a classic. That is my my favorite. And I love
(13:05):
Martin Short, I love Steve Martin and what better movie
to put them in or to And they're also back
in Murder in the Building, So they're back reunited and
they've been doing a bunch of stars. But their first
project together was The Three Amigos. That's a class that's
a great movie. Also, Chevy chases in that movie. And uh,
it's it's just hilarious. And you know, I'm gonna keep
(13:27):
using that word hilarious because that's just what these movies are.
That that sem a test of time. I showed my
wife this movie, and you know, she liked it. I
don't think it, you know, resonated with her. But again,
I saw this as a kid and watched it throughout
my my years of my life, and uh, it's great.
Steve Martin, Martin Short, you cannot ask for a better
duo than that, No, you can't.
Speaker 2 (13:49):
Also a great duo Cameron Diaz and I'm forgetting his
name right now. There's something about Mary. Oh, ben Stiller,
Ben Stiller, There we go, There we go, Ben Stiller
and Cameron dan Is and there's something about Mary. It
was so sweet but also gross and just really funny.
Speaker 1 (14:07):
Yeah. And that's dog getting electrocuted and its just being
a domi and throwing it around and yeah.
Speaker 2 (14:13):
Yeah, uh so that that's one that sticks with me too.
That was a great experience in the theater and I
just it makes me smile every time that I watch it. Yeah,
so that's highly rewatchable.
Speaker 1 (14:23):
That's really rewatchable. Actually, my wife and I were going
through different movies and stuff and that's one movie that
but oh, we gotta watch all. We did watch this
one too. We didn't watch that one. Also. The next
one on my fifth list, like the fifth movie on
my top five list, is The Emperor's New Groove. You've
seen that one. It's the one where Emperor Cusco turns
into a lama talking lama. Stars David Spade as Cusco
(14:46):
and uh and uh oh, I just had his name
in it in my head. Uh I know this. Give
me a second, Give me a second. He plays Pasha.
He was in Roseanne. What's his name?
Speaker 2 (14:59):
Rose That Roseanne's husband. No, I don't know either.
Speaker 1 (15:06):
I know, no, I know, I just had his name.
Speaker 2 (15:09):
We done.
Speaker 1 (15:10):
I'm gonna kick myself right now. Let's see, we're gonna
do this. Johnny Goodman, John Yes, John Goodman, So John Goodman,
David Spade. That movie has like one of them. This
movie has seemingly a joke for every minute, every minute,
or like there's like two jokes in each minute of
this film. There must be, because throughout this entire one
(15:31):
is hilarious. And I showed my wife this one one
of those movies where I'm like, you gotta watch this movie,
and eventually, after years of twisting arms, we finally watch
it and she's like, this is that's a good That's
that's a good one. Yeah, I'm telling you, I mad
movies I want you to watch.
Speaker 2 (15:45):
Are well last one on my recommendation list. And then
I mean, there's just so many honorable mentions. But the
wedding singer. I talked about this a couple of weeks
ago to Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore and it's just
so sweet. Yeah, full of heart and and it makes
me laugh. But my my favorite part is him that
the song when he's depressed that somebody.
Speaker 1 (16:07):
Kill me, please.
Speaker 2 (16:09):
Am on my names, Yeah, that I going to a
concert today, that she's in the mode. Yeah, we're in
the mode. We're in the mode. We're gonna be talking
about concerts and things like, we're gonna be more topics
up ahead. What's at the end of the year listening.
Speaker 1 (16:27):
So honorable mentions Anchorman that's a that's a great one, YEA.
So many quotes, quotable phrases and things in that film.
Speaker 3 (16:35):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (16:35):
The Anchor Man is actually one of those films where
I watched it the first time, and I swear I
watched with my dad and my sister and I didn't
laugh once. I just it just didn't click for me.
And I didn't get it at all. Not that I
didn't like get that this is supposed to be a joke,
that's supposed to be a joke, that's supposed to be
a joke. It just nothing was landing for me. But
then it's one of those films where, like, the more
(16:56):
times I've watched it, the funnier it gets. And so
that's the film that grew on me. So I'm actually
curious if anybody has had has a movie of their
own that was like that where you watched it the
first time, you didn't get it or appreciate it, and
then eventually like, oh wait, this is actually a great,
hilarious movie or a fantastic movie. Last the next one
is planes starring Leslie and Nielsen, who was also in
(17:17):
you know, the Naked gun films and everything now, so
that's great. And also planes Trains on Automobile. Oh sorry,
I meant airplane. And then the last one is plane
Trains and Automobiles.
Speaker 2 (17:28):
Mm hmm.
Speaker 1 (17:28):
Yeah, so that's a good one. That the bird Cage.
There's something the Honorable Mentions the Birdcade starring Robin Williams.
Check that one out also.
Speaker 2 (17:34):
Yeah, and as far as like quotable, like airplane, there
are so many freaking posts that are just now part
of exactly that are just now part of the lexicon,
and things.
Speaker 1 (17:45):
Like excuse me, I speak jive.
Speaker 2 (17:47):
I know, Hey James, do you like gladiators? Oh?
Speaker 1 (17:53):
I never seen a grown man naked?
Speaker 2 (17:56):
Yeah again, stuff that doesn't like really age well, but
it's hilarious that gott to appreciate it for what it is.
Speaker 1 (18:02):
Guys, I love it, and I hope people appreciate. The
new Naked Gun film again comes out today. It's it's
had a pretty good Thursday preview, so it made one
point six million dollars on his preview release. It's expected
to make between fifteen and seventeen million dollars over the weekend.
It's going up against Fantastic Four, which is still getting
you know, breaking in the dough and also The Bad
(18:23):
Guys too. Have you seen the Bad Guys?
Speaker 2 (18:25):
Not yet, but it's good.
Speaker 1 (18:27):
I think this the first one.
Speaker 2 (18:28):
I saw the first one.
Speaker 1 (18:29):
Yeah, okay, yeah, yes, one, and we've.
Speaker 2 (18:31):
Read all the books because I have a child in
that age change.
Speaker 1 (18:34):
Because Utopia too is coming out. Yeah yeah, out of Animals, So.
Speaker 2 (18:37):
Toby creeped me out a little bit. Yeah, that, guys
is fun.
Speaker 1 (18:40):
Yeah, that's good. But yeah, I'm hoping that The Naked
Gun gets a lively audience. To save comedies. I do
want to mention lastly connected to The Naked Gun, of course,
starring Liam Neeson Pamela Anderson. Have you heard the rumor
slash confirmation that they are dating? Has it been confirmed
them I'm not confirmed per se, but there's so much
(19:03):
video of them like gushing over each other during the
interviews promoting this movie, touching each other, hugging each other.
There's a video that just came out that where Pamela
Anderson's like they're on like a little like little boat
and they're going through a canal or something and she's
doing the Titanic the Rose and Liam's right behind her
holding her waist. And there's another clip where somebody asks
(19:24):
Liam what's your proudest moment as an actor? And he
goes working with Pamela Anderson and they both like you can.
I don't know, there's good if they're not dating, yea,
they should, they should like like this is the couple
that I didn't know American Needa right now because everybody
is behind this, so I'm hoping it's it's accurate, hoping
it's true.
Speaker 2 (19:45):
It's kind of like you know, the Tommins and da
like a little bit of tom Dya, like you get
that beautiful.
Speaker 1 (19:51):
They're like good people. They deserve to be happy.
Speaker 2 (19:55):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (19:55):
Yeah, And so Liam Neeson's wife ex wife, he you know,
for Ormer wife just away sixteen years ago. She passed
away and he apparently has not dated since then. And
I feel like, I don't know this is I want
this to happen. I love both of them, and I
feel like both of them would be perfect for each other,
Liam and Pamela. So if you're listening, confirm it, come
(20:17):
on the Home on Hollywood and reveal it. Now this
appears to be confirmed in the sense that they've been
seen out in public with and you know full PDA.
Have you have you seen this one? Tom Cruise and
Anna to Armists a couple. They were seen They were
seen in London holding hands at an Oasis concert. Oh,
(20:41):
they were at Wembley Stadium in London. They were seen
holding hands as they as they were also strolling down
the sidewalk smiling locked hip to hip. The thing is
Anna to Armis was interviewed recently about ballerina. You know,
she does her own stunts at a lot of stunts, yeah,
and whatnot. And somebody asked her like, oh, what do
you think about ever working with Tom Cruise? And she
like gushed over Tom Cruise like, oh, I think he
(21:02):
is incredible and and and at this time they had
been seen like kind of like getting lunch together or
coffee together, and you're thinking, okay, maybe they're working on
a movie or they're gonna they're in talks, because you know,
celebrities hang out talk about projects. So people were thinking, oh,
we saw with Tom Cruise. Do you think you're gonna
be in the next mission a possible movie if there
is one? YadA, YadA, YadA, And she was gushing over Tom. Yeah,
(21:23):
turns out there they're a thing. Now.
Speaker 2 (21:27):
Yeah, I don't know how I feel about this.
Speaker 1 (21:30):
Maybe that's yeah, she's.
Speaker 2 (21:32):
So beautiful, she's so young, she's so talented, she's got
so much going for.
Speaker 1 (21:36):
She did bet before.
Speaker 2 (21:37):
Oh that's true, that's true. Maybe so say the older guys.
You know, she doesn't have a problem with that. That's fine,
that's fine.
Speaker 1 (21:44):
That's not the problem. No, Tom Cruise, I love Tom
Cruise the movie star. I'm just gonna say that.
Speaker 2 (21:51):
Yeah, there we go.
Speaker 1 (21:52):
I'm gonna lave it there. Okay, But that's a surprising matchup.
Speaker 2 (21:56):
I think that it is a surprising matchup. And I
think it's funny that they were spotted at concert together.
Speaking of concerts, there was one in Massachusetts not too
long ago that led to some you know, some some craziness, yeah,
and some Fallout just a little.
Speaker 1 (22:14):
Just a little bit of Fallout, which is a Tom
Cruise movie connected my God, part of the conspiracy.
Speaker 2 (22:22):
Also part of the conspiracy apparently hiring Chris Martin's ex wife,
Gwyneth Paltrow to do emergency like PR response for the
company Astronomer, of whom right the CEO and the HR
director were caught canoodling, so they brought in Chris Martin's
(22:44):
ex wife to do damage control.
Speaker 1 (22:47):
How do you feel about this?
Speaker 2 (22:50):
Right? Right? Like they're kind of sticking it too.
Speaker 1 (22:54):
It was an expensive purchasing of services to have her
do a PR commercial again. The commercial was kind of
funny because they're like, Oh, I'm talking for Astronomer now,
and we know you've taken a lot of interest in
US and people have shown a lot of interest recently
for some reason, and we've been answering the questions online
(23:15):
and like they asked, like they show the beginning of
a question saying what do you think about your and
this you were interested by?
Speaker 2 (23:22):
Like no, no, no, It's like the question is like, OMG,
what the actual f And then it cuts off to
to Gwinne talking about like yes, we are the best
company to.
Speaker 1 (23:33):
Doubt your analysis, so.
Speaker 2 (23:35):
You know, like in all of these like other yeah,
data elements and things like that, and yeah, I think
the second question was, so how is your social media
team holding up? Yes, we do have a conference coming
up where you can learn more about astronomer and stuff like.
Speaker 3 (23:49):
So.
Speaker 2 (23:50):
I thought it was really well done with a nice
subtle dig, you know, and then moving forward.
Speaker 1 (23:55):
I don't even think it's a dig to Chris Martin.
I mean, like I guess, I don't know, I don't.
Speaker 2 (24:01):
Maybe they're trying to be funny. I don't know.
Speaker 1 (24:02):
Yeah, I think they've been trying to be funny. I
don't think it's supposed to be like we got your
back Chris, because like you exposed our CEO ha ha.
I don't think it was that kind of scenario. I
think it was just kind of like yeah, yeah, yeah,
I think that was it. She does she continue? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (24:17):
What's that?
Speaker 1 (24:17):
Does she continue to be the permanent?
Speaker 2 (24:19):
It's just a very short term. I don't think they
can afford that moving forward. So yeah, smart marketing there
so to go going.
Speaker 1 (24:31):
Mm hmm, nice to see you. All right, we're gonna
say something, uh No, Okay, well, I'm gonna say something.
We got some more filming and production work happening in Massachusetts.
Speaker 2 (24:43):
That is correct. Yeah, we've got Boston.
Speaker 1 (24:46):
Blue Boston Blue Dude.
Speaker 2 (24:49):
Boston Blue Dude with one of the Wallbergs.
Speaker 1 (24:53):
It's off of Blue Bloods the New York City. That
one takes place in New York City, right, but.
Speaker 2 (24:58):
Blue Bloods takes place in in the New York City
of Donnie Wahlberg's character moves to Boston. And now that's
what they're doing here.
Speaker 1 (25:05):
I wonder if in Cannon in Blue Bloods, Donnie Wahlberg's
character plays a cop originally from Boston and then he's
in New York or is he playing a New Yorker
who is moving to Boston.
Speaker 2 (25:20):
I'm not one hundred percent sure.
Speaker 1 (25:22):
You told me your research and watch every season of.
Speaker 2 (25:26):
I and I totally did. But yeah, no, So they're
gonna be shooting out in Devon's next.
Speaker 1 (25:33):
Time, Central mass Yeah, so what are they filming there,
because like, that's not Boston, the city of Boston. So
if you're filming exterior, you're again I'm not out there
sounds angry. I'm not angry. I'm just asking, like if
you're gonna be filming exterior shots of Boston, a Boston
based police crime drama. Why are you going to the
(25:53):
middle of the woods.
Speaker 2 (25:56):
There's a studio out there too. Maybe they need some
some student bay Okay.
Speaker 1 (26:00):
You know some nice out of Google Devns Because I
was like, does she mean Denham or did she mean
I know?
Speaker 2 (26:06):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (26:06):
I was like, no, Devons is like in the middle
of there.
Speaker 2 (26:10):
But yeah, they're going to be doing a lot of
exterior shots. Some other filming uh in and around our area,
but a lot of it's being done in Toronto.
Speaker 1 (26:18):
I hope they do a forced product placement where they're like,
all right, we're gonna catch we're in a bust in
this house. But before that, we got to fuel up
with some you know.
Speaker 2 (26:29):
Over here.
Speaker 1 (26:30):
The burger drawing over here. Let's go check it out.
How do you pronounce this Waldburger? It looks good.
Speaker 2 (26:35):
It smells good too, And then they great acting, great acting,
just like it.
Speaker 1 (26:43):
It's my boss an accident wall bug over there?
Speaker 2 (26:47):
More, subscriber, Isn't that I just got?
Speaker 1 (26:50):
I speaking about waiting?
Speaker 2 (26:53):
There's one other thing. That's one other thing filming here well,
getting underway in October rather they're they're beefing up, they're
hiring crew. They're getting ready for an NBC series that's
going to be shooting off of Cape cod starting in
early October. We don't have the name on that yet,
but they are building up for that, so there will
(27:14):
be more jobs for that one. And right now it
looks like Boston Casting's got the They've got the background
thee Yeah, they got the background dude, for like all
the major projects for everything filming right now. So Boston
Casting dot com, go and sign up with them, and
(27:35):
please forgive us for horrible Boston. I love, I swear
We're not trying.
Speaker 1 (27:40):
To I do, but speaking about Boston, what is more
Boston than Ben Affleck.
Speaker 2 (27:49):
Karen Reid Karen Reid, Oh my god. Okay, yeah, you
got to let people know what this is if not
from here.
Speaker 1 (27:56):
Yeah, yeah, And actually you may have heard of Karen
Reid because this is a national crime story. So many people.
There's a Netflix crime, there's a Netflix documentary. I'm sure
there's gonna be another documentary, and there may be a
movie in the works. That's the rumor, guys. Rumor has it, Yeah,
rumor has it. So basically, Karen Reid. She's from Fall River,
(28:19):
which is from it was just south of Boston, but
you're thirty minutes south of Boston, forty ish minutes south
of Boston or some and I believe those three years
ago now at this point where she was at a
this is a quick general rundown. She her husband, who's
a Boston police officer, was killed. He died during a blizzard,
(28:41):
during a snowstorm on somebody's front lawn, like a mutual
friend and family is like front lawn situation. And she
was arrested for his murder. Boyfriend, I'm sorry, boyfriend. She
was accused and arrested of his murder. However, she accused
of it being a cover up in stage that she
(29:03):
was actually killed by people in the house at the time.
And we're all Boston police, were all Boston police officers
or like or of Canton police. So it was that
kind of connection, and she was she was saying that
she was being framed for this, and so that was
her defense. Went to court. Uh, it was like it
was like the trial of the year, and mostly it
(29:24):
must have been the trial of the year because everybody
was talking about it, covering it wall to wall and
then she the first trial ended in a mistrial because
the jury could not come to a conclusion of whether
or not she uh murdered her her boyfriend, who was
again Boston police officer. And then the whole like conspiracy
angle to it. A lot of people were going online,
(29:46):
who are who are saying? Who are on her side? Saying,
you know, this is a conspiracy by the police departments
and law enforcement and the judicial system. She's being used
as a scapegoat. And then you had all these people
doing their own kind of research. And there's one person
who who goes by the name Turtle Boy, and his
name is Aiden Kearney, and he actually got in trouble
(30:07):
accused of I forget exactly what it was, but he
got arrested and charged for if I think, interference of
some sort. I don't quote me on that. I was
not the one who was covering that story, but basically
he got in trouble and he went through his own
court system, and you know, continues to advocate that Karenry
was innocent and being framed. The trial went, her case
(30:30):
went to trial again, so she was, you know, because
the first one ended in a mistrial. Now she's back
on trial. That one ended with her being found not
guilty of murder or manslaughter. She was found guilty of,
like Duy or ow Y, operating under the influence, but
not for murder. That's the long short story of it.
So back to Ben Affleck. Where does Ben Affleck come
(30:51):
up to? What does he have to do with this?
So he was recently pictures of him hanging out with
quote turtle Boy was posted online by a turtle boy.
So they both took by turtle Boy. They took a
selfie together, and they took a picture the turtle boy's
kids with Ben taking a picture as well. And I guess,
(31:12):
like I forget what the quote was, but that they
were hanging out. And so that led to the theory
of like, oh, Ben Affleck wants to make the Karen
Reid movie Oh Lord, and potentially play turtle Boy.
Speaker 2 (31:24):
How similar do they look? I don't know what turtle Boy.
Speaker 1 (31:27):
It doesn't matter a movie, it doesn't. I wouldn't say
their resemblance is close, but it doesn't really matter. And movies.
Speaker 2 (31:35):
Look, this thing just wrapped up a few weeks and they.
Speaker 1 (31:38):
Made a documentary like shortly after the first trial ended.
It right, and it was that was still going.
Speaker 2 (31:44):
And then the civil trial is still going and nobody
knows how he died. And I think there was there
was more evidence there was like a dog involved or
something like that, he had dog bites on his body.
Speaker 1 (31:54):
If you want to go if you want to go
down a rabbit hole, just google Karen, read document Henry,
or do a Wikipedia page. There's so much out there.
Speaker 2 (32:04):
There's so much weird things about this. But does it
need to be made into a movie?
Speaker 1 (32:08):
Does it need to be No, that's objective? Will it? Probably? Yeah?
And so yeah, so like this, this story is never ending.
It's gonna it's continuing on forever.
Speaker 2 (32:23):
Yeah. You know what other story is going to continue
on forever? K Pop demon Hunter?
Speaker 1 (32:27):
It will it? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (32:28):
Apparently this is not a great transition from like murder story.
Speaker 1 (32:35):
This is all I have to say about this about
ben at and Careenry's.
Speaker 2 (32:38):
Like Ben whatever, it's it's it. Yeah, it's probably gonna happen.
But I'd much rather see the the numerous sing sequels
and the live action remakes and the stage musical that
is apparently coming out of K Pop Demon Hunter? James, Yes,
(32:58):
have you did you hear about this before? I mentioned
it ken Okay, this movie is taking over the internet.
It has gone viral right now on Netflix. It is
its most viewed original animated movie ever if all of Netflix,
(33:19):
right this movie has exploded. And for me, it wasn't
really on the radar until my kids started watching like
YouTube videos and you know how they kind of scroll
and they watch their tun tun tun sahor and in
the background was this music. Were these songs from from
K pop Teaman Hunter? Like, wow, this sounds really good.
(33:39):
Oh my god, what is this from? Oh my god,
it's on Netflix. I a should watch this with my
kids sometime. Yeah, And then you know, finally we had
a day and we're like, oh, you know what, we're bored,
we got nothing to do. We put it on. Oh
my god.
Speaker 1 (33:52):
Oh my god, Oh my god.
Speaker 2 (33:54):
Look dude, this is so fun, so beautiful. Like I
am not easily impressed with animation and fight scenes and
things like that, Like everything is so like the same,
almost like good, but like nothing that really stands out.
(34:15):
The animation in this movie is unlike anything I've ever seen,
and it is so colorful and so sharp and so
oh my god, it just looks so good and it's
so fun, and it's just you don't you can't even blink.
It looks so good and you don't want to like
miss anything, and and so stylized, and you just have
(34:36):
so much fun watching it.
Speaker 1 (34:38):
So what is it?
Speaker 2 (34:39):
Let me tell you. It's about K pop stars and
demons just like me. So the premise is not overly complicated.
You've got three K pop stars in a band called
Hunter Tricks, right, you got Roomy, Chloe and Mira, and
they are not only K pop stars, but they are Hunters.
(35:01):
So they use the power of their voices to suppress
the demons from entering the human world, and their voices
help to create this thing called the han Moon, which
is the blanket that separates you know, our world from
the demon world, and it protects people from being eaten
by demons. And so as long as they are popular
(35:22):
and people love them and are singing their songs, the
han Moon is safe and the demons you know, are
are stuck in their world entered, uh, enter the demons right, Gosh,
what's his name?
Speaker 1 (35:39):
This sounds like an AI generated like plot. No, it's
not like what I don't mean, I don't mean in
an entirely bad way, but It's like you have K pop,
you have like Demons, Hunters, you know, catchy music, flashy lights,
pal animation. Like this just sounds like Netflix going to
like chat GBT and like hey, what's up? What are
(36:00):
kids into right now? And how can we make money?
Speaker 2 (36:02):
Genu?
Speaker 1 (36:03):
Yeah, but it works.
Speaker 2 (36:05):
It works because this is like a premise that could
easily have been corny, stupid, done poorly, like just been
a cash grab, but no, it was actually a very
well done story that actually ends up having a lot
of heart. And I don't think it only appeals to children.
I don't think it only appeals to women. I think
(36:26):
it appeals to everybody. Everybody gets sucked in, in particular
by the demons, who decide, hmm, we haven't been able
to fight against hunters. We haven't been able to stop
the hunters, right, yeah, why don't we fight them at
their own game? Why don't we create their own pop band?
(36:47):
Whoa so to enter the Demon boy band? The Sasa Boys? Interesting, No,
led by Genu, that's a fair question. They do have
like autograph signings together, and they do like a variety
(37:08):
want they want souls, they want your soul, James. They
want to eat people, they want to eat people's souls.
And Gema is like the demon king or whatever, and
he controls all of the demons and he's the one
who sends them, you know, keeps them in eternal suffering
and also sends them to take people's souls so that
he can feast. Right, And so Ginu, who is the
(37:31):
leader of the Saja Boys, he this was his idea,
Saja boys. Doesn't that sound so cool? This was his idea, right,
because he makes a deal with Gema so that he
can forget the memories of his family, which kind of
was led to him being a demon four hundred years ago,
(37:54):
So that's why he's doing it.
Speaker 1 (37:56):
I don't want to anything. Do one of the K
pop hunters huntresses fall in love? Like do they know
why the bad those guys are demons? Or do they
find out? Like they find out Soja boy, and then
I was gonna say soldier boy, soldiers, but then find like,
oh no, it's a demon.
Speaker 2 (38:12):
They find out very quickly that they're demons, but not
before there's the most delightful scene ever. It's so light
spoiler We're going to go into a little bit of
spoiler territory back and then come back, but not before
they see the Soda Boys for the first time and
are like drooling, like oh my god, Like you know,
(38:35):
there's abs, there's beautiful faces. One girl's eyes turn into popcorn,
and it's in some parts or anime ish and I
just I love who is it? Uh So the lead
singer of Hunter Tricks, she's like, you guys are so
gros right as Genu comes in, it's just it's amazing,
(38:59):
so a lot of laughs. It's very heartfelt, it's fun
to watch, and the music is out of this world. Okay.
K pop itself is extremely popular, huge, you know, fan
following and stuff like that. If you go and you
google like K pop, you get all the stars. Right
If you go to YouTube right now and you google
(39:21):
just k pop, it all comes up with Demon Hunter
and their songs and they've chopped all the charts right now.
And it's real K pop stars who have recorded the
music for this, which is really really great. Also, so
I know there's one band named Twice that's a girl
band that has recorded a few songs here and and
(39:41):
there are other pop stars. But the music is infectious.
Speaker 1 (39:46):
It's catchyets demons, and it possesses you like a demon.
Speaker 2 (39:51):
Yes, And there's a song at the very end of
the movie that is exactly that I'm gonna be your ile, right,
And it's like, maybe.
Speaker 1 (39:58):
This movie is the actual thing that draws souls from people,
like the game is made this movie Listen.
Speaker 2 (40:05):
I've seen so many I've seen at least several reviews
so far of like men James who are like, what
is this? This is not something I would ever watch,
but you know what, whatever, my followers want me to
watch it, like did you say you hate shut up? Anyways,
and then they watch it and then they're hooked. They're
(40:27):
completely hooked, They're completely sucked in. It's like, right, it's
like a cult, which is exactly what happens in the movie.
Is you get sucked in by the soldier boys, weakens
the han Moon, and then the souls get eaten. I'm
a little bit concerned for my soul. But it's so catchy.
It's so because you let us hold up, let us
(40:48):
hold up up, right, It just it sucks you in
and getting in now, right, and it is it is,
it is, And it's it's like soda, like yeah, soda
pop pop music like sugar Sugar exactly. But the music
is unbelievable and it's not like not all of it
(41:09):
is like stupid like soda pop. Yeah right, they all
have like deep meaning. There's great themes explored here. I
am a sucker for. If there's anything that I'm a
sucker for, it's a redemption story and enemies to lovers exactly,
exactly exactly in other words, enemy still lovers. So and
(41:32):
I get both of that. I get both of those
themes here, but also self love, accepting yourself, accepting all
parts of yourself, like really great messages as a part
of it. Because the secret is James. The secret is
that the lead singer of uh spoiler spoiler, spoilers.
Speaker 1 (41:56):
Spoiler's half demon.
Speaker 2 (41:59):
She's half demon.
Speaker 1 (42:00):
Oh, she's the one that can bring them both together, Like,
hey guys, it aren't we all kind of like cool
and not cool? That's be cool together.
Speaker 2 (42:08):
She's been hiding it her whole life and being told
that nobody will accept her, even her friends.
Speaker 1 (42:14):
So she has chosen a side though. She's like, well,
I'm gonna be with the good ones, and she's the
other day a hunter.
Speaker 2 (42:20):
I'm only behind me, right, But then it starts to
take over right, it starts to take over because she's
not acknowledging that part of herself. She's hating herself. There's
self hatred there.
Speaker 1 (42:34):
Herself.
Speaker 2 (42:35):
Yeah, but she has to ka love herself. She does,
she has to accept herself. And when she finally does,
that's when they create a new hand Moon and they
create they make it Golden right, the song that they
couldn't sing, they finally nail sing it right at the end. Gosh,
my son is so good at learning lyrics, Like I
(42:57):
wish that I could have prepared and learned the lyrics
for these songs because they're so beautiful and so fun.
Maybe for next time you want. No, but my review
is now done, done, done. It's one of the songs.
Speaker 1 (43:14):
So so it looks it sounds like they may make sequels.
Speaker 2 (43:17):
The thing is they are going to make sequels.
Speaker 1 (43:19):
Now here's the Do you read what I wrote down?
There's talks or rumors that they may make a live
action remake.
Speaker 2 (43:26):
How since when do you hear about a live action
remake before they even they've even made these movies.
Speaker 1 (43:34):
Now, to be fare, they made the movie, so the
movie is made. Now they're talking about made. Oh yeah,
but you can still remake one movie. It's a live
action but.
Speaker 2 (43:42):
They, I mean they, they're making bank on this.
Speaker 1 (43:44):
Yeah, so what do you what are you thoughts about
the rumors that that Netflix is considering making a live
action remake.
Speaker 2 (43:51):
It's going to happen, but I would like to see it.
Speaker 1 (43:53):
You would? Ah, you're so remake. I'm so a gans remake.
Not for every movie, but a lot very like against remake.
The thing is, people were saying, why would you remake
live action this film when it's a film with a
lot of colors, a lot of funny animation like these
the popcorn eyes or whatever eyes, love eyes, whatever, Like.
There's a lot of anime stylistic stuff that you can
(44:15):
do that doesn't always translate well visually in live action form.
Speaker 2 (44:20):
I have one answer for you.
Speaker 1 (44:21):
You what abs abs this chick over here? G goodness?
The app you can just google abs online? No, no, no,
it has to be these as these abs goodness.
Speaker 2 (44:38):
Yeah, but milking this cash cow, Okay, there's gonna be two.
There's already plans for two more movies, animated sequels, making
this into a trilogy. Yeah, and there's lots to work
with there, there's a ton of stuff that was supposed
to be in this movie that got cut out is
on the you know, cutting room floor. That would make
(44:59):
you know, great.
Speaker 1 (44:59):
Stuff for episodes like a series.
Speaker 2 (45:03):
No, No, these are gonna be movie feature film, feature
length sequel.
Speaker 1 (45:08):
No, but I heard I heard they can make sequels.
But in addition to that, they're like, keep milking it,
make make it also like a series, all characters whatever,
and make it like a Netflix series.
Speaker 2 (45:17):
And there's plans for a stage play. I heard too.
The yeah, so it's gonna be like Hamilton.
Speaker 1 (45:24):
And then they're gonna be like a real life sucking
of souls and battling for No.
Speaker 2 (45:30):
But the stage craft that they could pull off with
this is amazing and I would amazing want to be there. Yes,
it's k amzing. Yes I would say that.
Speaker 1 (45:41):
Sorry, yeah, you're I'm care terrible. No, but I'm glad
that you love this. I don't have Netflix. I got
rid of Netflix.
Speaker 2 (45:53):
I'll give you my best.
Speaker 1 (45:55):
But yeah, K Pop Demon Hunters. You it sounds like
you recommend my.
Speaker 2 (46:00):
I highly recommend this my one pet Peeve or my
one you know, Nippick or whatever, my Kpeeve, Oh my
god stuff. Ye would be James that this is not
in the theaters, that there was no theatrical release because
according to the CEO of Netflix, right, you can make
movies like this and just enjoy it at home and
(46:20):
that that's good enough. I don't think it's good enough.
The visuals in this movie and the animation in this
movie is so amazing. I want it on the big screen. Yeah,
I want a theatrical release. And he is wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong,
wrong wrong. It deserves a theatrical release. Not everything is
(46:43):
good just to watch at home on the TV. It's
great that it's so convenient and accessible, but come on,
you made something so beautiful. I'm ax, i'm ax that stuff.
Speaker 1 (46:54):
I max it up.
Speaker 2 (46:55):
That's right?
Speaker 1 (46:56):
All right? Well, have you watched K Pop Demon Hunters?

with them going on adventures and committing hijinks. Also about hijinks,
what are your top five favorite comedies of all time
that I think should not be remade? There should be
no remake because these are perfect and we don't need
(47:59):
any more perfection out of these films.
Speaker 2 (48:03):
Then flick make a play turtle Boy in the Karen
Reid movie.
Speaker 1 (48:06):
