Speaker 1 (00:05):
This is the Hub on Hollywood and iHeartRadio podcast. I
am your co host James.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
Rojas No, I'm Jamie Blanco.

Speaker 1 (00:11):
On this week's episode, Jamie and I are opening up
our DVD vaults. Move over Disney, because we are telling
you which movies you must physically own, because streaming is
getting out of control.

Speaker 2 (00:22):
It's taking over it. Yeah, it's just it's.

Speaker 1 (00:25):
We're over it. We're over, were over. Yeah. But what
we're not over is India and Robert Pattinson a new
teaser trailer for their movie that's set in New York
but filmed in Boston. The drama just released, so we
will check that out. Boston Blue also not filmed in Boston, but.

Speaker 2 (00:43):
Well parts of it are. The exteriors are the exteriors
are soay, we'll take it.

Speaker 1 (00:48):
But it gets a second season. Plus some other local
filming news and Jane Fonda legendary. Jane Fonda spoofs Nicole
Kidman's AMC Theater ad taking a jab at the whole
streaming service. Uh, monopoly, monopolization that's trying to be conducted.

Speaker 2 (01:06):
That's that's the theme today. We're just not happy with streaming,
so sticking it to streaming.

Speaker 1 (01:11):
Today, taking it to streaming, but who we will never
stick it to, we will always support and love. Yeah,
is a mister Dick Van Dyke celebrating today his one
hundredth birthday. He did what Kitty White could not do,
make it to one hundred.

Speaker 2 (01:28):
It wasn't her fault.

Speaker 1 (01:29):
No, of course, not so close. She shouldn't have beg
gone skydiving that day. Go yeah, so think of it, Betty.
How old was she?

Speaker 2 (01:37):
She was? She was ninety nine.

Speaker 1 (01:40):
Well, Dick Van Dyke, congratulations for reaching one hundred years old.
The legendary actor and comedian, of course, as you know
him from the Dick Van Dyke show, Mary Poppins Chitty
Chitty Bang Bang. He's been working at least doing some
voiceover work as of like twenty twenty three on The Simpsons.
And this man, I think the secret to a long

(02:01):
happy life is one, as he says, never getting angry.
Just don't get angry, let everything roll off your back.
And two exercise every day, like he goes to the
gym apparently every single day, pumps iron, lifts weights.

Speaker 2 (02:16):
He can take you out.

Speaker 1 (02:17):
He does p ninety x and so. But I thought,
well might be fun and really quick. It's to look
at things that were that didn't exist before nineteen twenty five,
and some of those things, I'm not sure if you'd
be surprised, but did you know that both Betty White
and Dick Van Dyke are older than sliced bread?

Speaker 2 (02:36):
This would surprise me.

Speaker 1 (02:37):
Yes, yeah, I mean I imagine you just have two
loves of bread and smash meat, or you just rip
it with your hands, exactly like an animal.

Speaker 2 (02:45):
I'm sure there were nine, but it wasn't like you
couldn't buy it sliced. No, you couldn't buy it sliced.

Speaker 1 (02:50):
Okay, all right, bubblegum did not exist before nineteen twenty five. Nylon, Nilon,
You ladies, you love your nylon. I don't know what
lady is like, whether they like or the phils restrained
by nylon. Ballpoint pens, ball point pans.

Speaker 3 (03:09):
Yeah, helicopters, helicopters, well, yeah, airplanes existed, barely existed, barely
the microwave. Social Security, my goodness, So how does he
collect his Social Security even though he was born before
Social Security?

Speaker 1 (03:26):
No, they just give him a gold and free afterwardsores.
No one ever thought of putting Graham cracker chocolate and
marshmallow together to make a s'more until until.

Speaker 2 (03:40):
I don't know, later in the twentieth century.

Speaker 3 (03:43):
Yeah, stam, okay.

Speaker 1 (03:46):
Frozen ready meals.

Speaker 2 (03:48):
That makes sense, That makes sense, that makes sense.

Speaker 1 (03:49):
They barely had ice boxes before the refrigerator. That ice
boxes or literally just rooms full of ice. Yeah, cool things.

Speaker 2 (03:57):
You know what else helps him probably live long James
singing and dancing, singing and dancing, singing and dancing. Jim
jimminy Jim Chim Jim.

Speaker 1 (04:06):
He was again he had up until a few years ago,
like a traveling show, like he had a whole bike.

Speaker 2 (04:13):
Keeps you young. Yeah, so basically acting, singing, getting performing
and never getting mad and uh yes, spam later, I.

Speaker 1 (04:22):
Guess birthday, Dick van Dyke. Hopefully you have another hundred
years to go and uh we'll see you in the future.
But speaking of the future, let's talk about the future
of film, the future of filmmaking.

Speaker 2 (04:36):
In New England.

Speaker 1 (04:40):
Yeah, it's alive and kicking, unlike the Wide City, like
Dead City.

Speaker 2 (04:47):
So Dead City is coming to an end, coming to
an end. We've had so much fun, We've so many
people have seen the stars out and about Woostern Brockton
all around, right, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, famous for you know,
every break that he gets going up and taking pictures
besides besides killing, taking pictures with fans and stuff like that.

(05:12):
It's been very with his bat. Yes. Uh, so everything
is coming to an end, wrapping up in the next
week or two that I do, don't I I worked
on season two.

Speaker 1 (05:31):
Literally everybody that's right.

Speaker 2 (05:33):
So, but but for the final weeks of filming. Uh
they're Kendall Cooper Casting, which has done an incredible job
of putting this thing together. They're looking for very specific
background folks. So, hey, I mean, this is your last chance.
This is your last chance. If you want to be

(05:53):
in the very end of a Dead City season three,
reach out to Kendall Cooper Casting. Every and something else
that you don't want to miss out on is Boston Blue.

Speaker 1 (06:04):
Boston Boston Blue.

Speaker 2 (06:06):
Coming back renewed for a season two. Uh. Now, most
of it is shot in Toronto, right, most of it's
not shot but all of the would we go call
Boston No, No, we don't. But the exteriors right are

(06:26):
filmed here. So Donnie Wahlberg has been literally running around
chasing suspects of City, the Boston Common. They will be
back for a season two, very much looking forward to
when that will kick off again. But something that filmed
here earlier, the drama last year, filmed with us and

(06:50):
Dan Robert Pattinson. We've got the very first teaser trailer
and a release date for them April third. And what
I really loved about this announcement, let's say, is they
put it out there like a real engagement announcement, and

(07:11):
basically Roberts and Zenday are getting married and they are
also losing their damn minds. This is not going well.

Speaker 1 (07:19):
This is a weird trailer just because and I mean
that in the best way, because it is a literal teaser.
You have no idea what's going on. Like there's obviously
they are obviously setting up. There's a problem. A secret
has been revealed amongst who who like, we don't know yet,
and that's creating some tension before the big day, right,
the big drama. So have you seen the trailer.

Speaker 2 (07:39):
I've seen the trailer. I think we should watch it together.

Speaker 1 (07:42):
Let's watch it together. Let me make sure my volume
is up. If you haven't watched the trailer, watch it
with us. Let's see if I can turn this series.

Speaker 2 (07:51):
Am I sent in some nurse.

Speaker 1 (07:54):
She's in the materialist. That girl, she's good feeling rapped up.

Speaker 2 (07:57):
And comfortable for your wedding day. Yeah, alright, let's try it.
Let's do it about her feet, all right, Charlie, he's
a little closer to your briand to be here you go.
The tension, the awkwardness is palpable, beautiful, funny, this is
straight serious.

Speaker 1 (08:15):
She has the best slaw.

Speaker 2 (08:17):
Okay, good, good four film.

Speaker 1 (08:20):
I love that he's carrying, understanding, open minded.

Speaker 2 (08:26):
That's good.

Speaker 1 (08:27):
Okay, So so hold on to those thoughts.

Speaker 2 (08:29):
Don't forget to smile.

Speaker 1 (08:32):
Looks fun so far. Well naturally, yeah, Charlie, just a
completely natural smile. So what's happening right there? Like it
looks like she smiling life. So let's like she busted
him doing something.

Speaker 2 (08:45):
Remember possibly really well, Charlie, there's a lot of anger
and angst. O love that we're gonna happen drinking, screaming blood. Okay,
I think that we'll we'll get there on the day. Yeah, okay, lord,

(09:07):
I love the awkwardness.

Speaker 1 (09:09):
Yeah. So is this is this a literal drama or
like the trailer makes it look like, no, it's a
literal drama. Yeah, and so it's a little The funny
thing is, and we talked about this on the podcast.
When they were in the middle of filming, people were
in Boston taking video because they're filming outside on the
street at night, so of course people were. You know,
all these videos are popping up on social media, and
one of them that people tried to like make it

(09:31):
seem like it was an actual fight between Zendia and
Robert Pattinson or that they were dating or or cheating on,
like Zendia was cheating on. Yeah. And then obviously everyone
knows like, okay, they're filming a movie film, but I
remember that, like everybody was sharing photos online on Instagram
and Twitter and stuff like, oh my god, we saw
that by the common and yeah, everyone was so excited.

Speaker 2 (09:51):
Like I said, I always love it when Zindia's here
in town filming. This is like her second or third. Yeah,
she's she's done here.

Speaker 1 (09:58):
Next time you're in Boston, hop on the whole on
Hollywood want to talk to.

Speaker 2 (10:01):
You exactly, And Tom say, yeah, I love it when
she brings Tom out here and they spot them all
around and about Yeah, but one of the great things
about this film too was Zinda talking about how wonderful
it was to work with Robert Pattinson and how much
of a sweetheart he is. But they didn't even need

(10:23):
an intimacy coordinator, she was saying, because unlike other leading
men in Hollywood, like, he didn't expect her to like
be attracted to him and want to sleep with him
and stuff like that, Like he was a consummate professional.
Oh yea, yeah, but doesn't it doesn't stop actors from
being jerks.

Speaker 1 (10:41):
Is that what he said? Said?

Speaker 2 (10:43):
That's what she said, she said. She said that he
was so wonderful because unlike other people in Hollywood, he
doesn't expect her to like want to sleep with him,
you know what I mean. So they had like she
was felt safe and comfortable enough with him that they
didn't need an intimacy coordinator. So I just thought that
was really interesting.

Speaker 1 (11:03):
We can't wait to see it.

Speaker 2 (11:06):
Looks interesting.

Speaker 1 (11:07):
I don't want to any no, no, no, no, okay,
so great. So we're looking forward to the drama that's
coming out April third.

Speaker 2 (11:17):
I believe third, that's right, Yeah.

Speaker 1 (11:19):
Third coming out sooner than that or some local film festivals.

Speaker 2 (11:24):
Yeah, So if you are in the local filmmaking community
here in New England, just want to give a quick
shout out to our friends over at the Friendly Filmmaker,
Miss Julia, who puts out a wonderful newsletter every week
and does coaching for people who are trying to create
their own indie movies and things like that. In her

(11:47):
newsletter this week, just letting people know that there's the
Dead of Winter Horror Festival coming up February twenty first
to the twenty second in Worcestern, Massachusetts. This one seems
to be really fun if you're looking forward to that.
And the Selfie Film Festival James is coming up March seventh.
They are still open and accepting entries for that. So

(12:11):
if you want to submit your film for the Sufie
Film Festival, you can do that.

Speaker 1 (12:15):
Now do that? Now do that?

Speaker 2 (12:18):
You should do that.

Speaker 1 (12:19):
Speaking about local I'm sure a festival or two has
been held at the Coolidge Corner Theater where friends of
the folks over at the Coolidge Corner Theater are very
friendly with them. They are going through their own little
back and forth tuget tugget of war between the actual
theater and their employees. So the employees they've been unionized
for for for a bit, and so I guess right

(12:40):
now they're in the middle of contract negotiations and so
you know, you know, this kind of thing has to
happen for progress to be made, and specifically for workers
who say that they're seeking better wages, healthcare, and there
are like some scheduling issues and so they're trying to
work with the inconsistent hours that they may be getting
at theater. So for those who are around the Coolidge

(13:03):
Corner Theater and may have seen some protesting around there,
that's what's going on. They actually had a demonstration recently
when Ethan Hawk was there at theater receiving like an
award of or like a recognition of some sorts. So
Ethan Hawk was in town. Maybe Maya Hawk from Stranger
Things was also there. But yeah, so you related. You know,

(13:24):
she looks just like Uma Thurman. It's like it's she
looks just like if Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawk had
a child.

Speaker 2 (13:29):
Imagine that.

Speaker 1 (13:31):
But yeah, if you are going to the Coolige Corner
Theater and you do see some some stuff going on outside,
that's what's going on. So we will keep an eye
out and see what happens with that developments. But Jamie,
speaking about movie theaters, the Coolidge Corner Theater, they've gone
through this big renovation project to not only expand their space,
but to attract more folks. Bring him back to the
movie theater. And I think a lot of movie theaters

(13:52):
are filling up, especially this month, because there are a
lot of really good movies out right now. Yeah, I
haven't seen many of them, but there are many on
the list of that and I really want to see
one of which is a blockbuster, mega hit right now,
Zutopia two.

Speaker 2 (14:09):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (14:10):
Have you seen the first Utopia?

Speaker 2 (14:11):
I did see the first Utopia scene. My kids saw
the first Utopia. They really like.

Speaker 1 (14:17):
What I think about my kid I think about like
ten years ago.

Speaker 2 (14:21):
Really yeah, okay, well we must have seen it on
streaming then, But I have not taken them to see
Zutopia two yet.

Speaker 1 (14:28):
When do is Utopia one come out? No? Not Utopia Euphoria?
When did you for you? Yeah? But go on, Yeah,
so you saw it, you liked it? Sixteen so nine
years ago?

Speaker 2 (14:42):
Yeah exactly. And now Zutopia two, expected to be the
fastest PG film to ever reach one billion dollars in December.

Speaker 1 (14:53):
In December, yeah, and you know December sometimes it's a
month where they kind of especially in January leading into
January and five, those are times and studios kind of
just put movies out that they are not very confident in.
But but you know, leading up to December or Christmas,
that's that that window, that's a very valuable window. And
so doing Gangbusters right now, performing like Gangbusters? What's the term?

(15:16):
How do you say that? Very well?

Speaker 2 (15:18):
Right now?

Speaker 1 (15:18):
So making a lot of money. And again it's only
what how many weeks in just a few seventeen days
in just so just over two weeks of being in theaters,
reaching over a billion dollars. So kudos to Zootopia. Now,
let's see. It is the third film to reach this milestone,
after Lelo and Stitch and Nesa Too. Have you seen

(15:40):
Neza too? Yeah?

Speaker 2 (15:41):
I think it's a Chinese movie.

Speaker 1 (15:42):
I've never heard of it much.

Speaker 2 (15:43):
I haven't actually watched it, but I have heard a
lot about it. Yeah, it's done very well internationally.

Speaker 1 (15:50):
Okay, well you know who's hoping there. Third film does
very well internationally and locally is Avatar, Fire and Ash
director James Cameron. The third film in the Avatar series
coming out this month. I am gonna be honest. The
first one I was really excited for and I really enjoyed.
You know, the story is. You know, it's not mind blowing,

(16:11):
it's not game changing, but it's a very you know,
it's a very good story, decent enough story. Visuals of course,
without being said, amazing. So first time watching it, I
watched it maybe three times in the movie theater. The
second one comes out ten years later, about ten years later,
so if not a little bit longer, and you know,
the story again, it's good, it's decent, visuals amazing, but

(16:34):
I only saw one time in the movie theater. Yeah,
this time third one's coming out, I'm not feeling very
jazzed or hyped for it.

Speaker 2 (16:41):
Yeah, are you?

Speaker 1 (16:42):
No?

Speaker 2 (16:43):
No, I don't know anyone who is. And I feel like,
you know, James Cameron had said come out recently and
said that the studio themselves was like, we don't really
need anymore.

Speaker 1 (16:54):
You don't need anymore, You've done enough right and make
Terminator because while you lose that momentum.

Speaker 2 (17:00):
Yeah, but James Cameron's comeback was what you don't want
to make another two billion dollars. What what and what like?

Speaker 1 (17:07):
Yeah, like but he does. But he did say that
if it doesn't do well this time around, this may
be the last film. So I know they're planning to
make like five or six or seven movies, but he said,
if this doesn't do that well, like you know, make
two billion or whatever, make its money back and then some,
then this may be the third one, and then they
may do like novelization of the continued story. Yeah, if

(17:27):
you want.

Speaker 2 (17:27):
To, it would make a little bit more sense because
it seems like it's the same story.

Speaker 1 (17:32):
Yeah. Yeah, we're just people fighting people on a space planet.
All planets are in space. What am I saying? Ana
Conda not in space? But it's a meta reboot.

Speaker 2 (17:44):
Oh wait, that's something different.

Speaker 1 (17:45):
I mean, I mean we never know Jack Black is
in this movie. Okay, yeah, you know his Ana Conda
wants some Paul Rudd Jack Black starring in this meta
reboot action comedy of Ana Conda. The friends set out
to film their own make of the original, but they
encounter a real giant Ana Conda.

Speaker 2 (18:03):
Oh, I like that.

Speaker 1 (18:04):
We have a press screening for this. I'm not sure
what the date is and maybe this week, so let
me double check. We may see it, okay, our schedules align.
H Five nights at Freddy's two.

Speaker 2 (18:14):
Mm hmmm, this one. I'm very excited for it.

Speaker 1 (18:17):
You like the first Actually, I really liked it.

Speaker 2 (18:19):
I'm not a big horror person, but I really liked
the first five nights of Freddie's adaptation. Looking forward to
five nights of Freddie's two, the sequel to the horror
hit the film nights the main cast to face new
animatronic terrors a year after the events of the first movie.
So that that sounds so fun. My son got really

(18:41):
into five Nights of Freddy's. He's into like a new
horror game that I don't remember what it is, right, Oh,
the poppy play Time one. But I love these horror games.

Speaker 1 (18:51):
Is it poppy like the flower or poppy like Hey Buppy?

Speaker 2 (18:55):
It's no like the Flowery?

Speaker 1 (19:00):
Why are you killing everybody?

Speaker 2 (19:02):
Exactly?

Speaker 1 (19:02):
No, it's not okay, all right? Speaking about killing and
Bloody Kill Bill, the whole Bloody Affair, the whole Kill Bill. Oh,
I guess the two films running back to back in theaters.
I think there's an intermission in between. So folks who
love kill Bill and Quinn Tarantino, despite his recent comments
about Paul Dano. Have you heard those comments? Oh yes, yeah,

(19:24):
so Quintin Clinton. Chill chill, Daddy, boppy, chill boppy, please
chill please. One of the people are not chilling about
is wake Up, Dead Man and Knives Out mystery. I
haven't seen this. I haven't. I don't have Netflix. I
didn't see it in the theatrical release. Now I'm hearing

(19:45):
I don't wanna, you know, I don't wanna. I don't
want to. I don't want to raise expectations. But some
people are saying this is better than the first film.

Speaker 2 (20:00):
I'm here for it. Daniel Craig really really can anything
beat these hands? Really? And I say that because I
was Ana Dharmus's hand and body first movie of Knives Out.
But I can't wait to see this one. I need
to see this immediately.

Speaker 1 (20:17):
Ella mckaylay, I'm already saying posters at the local movie
theater for em Yeah.

Speaker 2 (20:22):
Ella McKay filmed here in New England, uh, starring Jamie
Lee Curtis, Amma Mackey, Emma Mackie, very movie heroes that
I love him so much. Political comedy drama about an
idealistic young woman who suddenly becomes the state governor and
all kinds of Shenanigans ensued. I just I love Jamie

(20:45):
Lee Curtis and everything that she's ever done. She was
also in Knives Out.

Speaker 1 (20:48):
Yeah, she was also in this.

Speaker 2 (20:50):
Constantly filming in New England because you know, we're just
that amazing, but very very much looking forward to seeing
Ellen McKay and all of the local talent that is
in this film.

Speaker 1 (21:01):
Yeah, not film locally, but down at the Bottom of
the Sea. Is the SpongeBob movie Search for SquarePants animated? Yeah,
they could be off the Cape or something. Yeah, I
know they should. SpongeBob goes to the Cape animated adventure
where SpongeBob embarks on a journey to the deepest parts
of the ocean to prove his bravery to mister Crabs.
Have you seen you know, Ariana Grande's new boyfriend. Yes,

(21:25):
he's in the Wicked movie.

Speaker 2 (21:27):
I forget his name.

Speaker 1 (21:28):
Yeah, but he also plays SpongeBob. Like, yeah, light action.
I don't know if it's on Broadway. I'm assuming it's
on Broadway somewhere.

Speaker 2 (21:33):
I'm not a simple spot.

Speaker 1 (21:35):
Yeah, so so many so many memes and clips of
him doing that, like doing his laugh and doing his
squeaky dance and stuff, and people are like sponge, like
Arouna Grande is dating this guy.

Speaker 2 (21:45):
Yeah yeah, yeah, but have you seen like how much
he looks like her brother?

Speaker 1 (21:50):
Like I I have not. There's a whole lot of
weird things going.

Speaker 2 (21:53):
On, and we won't get into that anything anyways. The
last thing out in theaters right now that you might
want to.

Speaker 1 (21:59):
See, yeah, Marty Supreme, starring Timo tay Shallama t Shalla mate.
This one is is just came out again, just came
out this month and is already being considered just squeaking
in as potentially the best movie of the year. Really, yeah, yeah,
Marty Supreme. It is acclaimed sports comedy drama loosely inspired

(22:20):
by table tennis player Marty Reisman or Riceman. And yeah,
so Timothy, he's kind of ruffling some feathers because you know,
he did that iconic speech like a year or two
ago where he won an awarding and he's like, I
want to be the Michael Jordan of acting. I want
to be the Bruce Springsteen of acting, and he had
all these other great you know people in their in
their own field, and so he's really trying to be

(22:43):
like the best actor. But recently he's been doing the
promos the interviews for this and he says, this is
my best work I've done. I've been pumping out great
things for seven or eight years. This is the best. Now.
Some people say, how dare you speak so highly of yourself?
So you conceded ego maniac? But some other people are saying,
you know, it's part of a bit. You know, Timothy

(23:03):
Shalla May he's a funny, funny guy. He kind of
he knows what he's doing, so he's kind of like
he's playing into that bit.

Speaker 2 (23:10):
But do you think that he's actually that rapper? Did
you see this?

Speaker 1 (23:14):
Yeah, I don't know the name of the rapper at
the top of my head, but there's a rapper going
around who has like, you know, kind of the dude mask,
like a kind of like a hoodie and mask and stuff.
And I think he said recently also, somebody asked him
are you this guy? And he says, only time will tell,
So that could be like yes I am, or I'm
just I'm just trolling you guys because I'm Timothy, say.

Speaker 2 (23:35):
You've seen that, like the rap videos he did in
high school.

Speaker 1 (23:37):
Right, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, he is a rapper too.
He won White Boy of the Year. He did he
won like a like a was like a WWE belt.

Speaker 2 (23:47):
Oh man, I get it. How do I How do
I enter my husband into that.

Speaker 1 (23:49):
The white Boy of the Year is he is the.

Speaker 2 (23:52):
White boy of the year every year in our house.

Speaker 1 (23:56):
Excellent. Well let's see. Well, talking about other white person,
Jane wause Moth Transition they call kid Min she's also white.

Speaker 2 (24:04):
Yeah, we're gonna get. We're gonna get.

Speaker 1 (24:05):
I'm just identifying, but they are they're nice white people.
While Jane Fonda, she's spoofing Nicole Kidman's a MC theater
ad with an ad of her own, taking a jab
at the the whole the monopolization effort between Warner Brothers,
Netflix and Paramount Plus. So they so she came out

(24:27):
with this video. It's on Instagram. I'll try to make
this loud so we can pick it up if you
want to point your microphone to this. But this is
for those watching. I'll try to put this video on
our video as well so you can watch it along.
But you can listen to it in the meantime, and
here we go.

Speaker 3 (24:44):
On to this place for rogers.

Speaker 1 (24:49):
Yeah, we stream to self silence to censor. So she's
walking to a movie theater right now for those we
can't say, we're content. This chosen of the best billionaires
we know.

Speaker 2 (25:05):
I want to watch this before my movies.

Speaker 1 (25:07):
Focus grouped, free digested content that let's your.

Speaker 2 (25:13):
Brain not do.

Speaker 1 (25:14):
She pulls out a phone in the movie theater. Somehow
corporate greed feels good in a place. Somehow mergers feel
good in a place like this.

Speaker 2 (25:28):
What are you doing?

Speaker 1 (25:29):
You gotta go. We're about to not this whole place
down a five minutes to make a data center, So
you gotta go. Hello, I agree. So this is uh,
this is created from first A or one A committee,
A committ committee, So first Amendment Committee.

Speaker 2 (25:50):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (25:50):
Jane Fonda in the in the post. So this is
what the description behind this video says. So they say,
regardless of which company ends up acquiring Warner Brothers, Discovery,
or or its parts, the resulting impact is clear. Consolidation
at this scale would be catastrophic for any industry built
on free expression, for the creative workers who power it,
and for consumers who depend on a free, independent media

(26:12):
ecosystem to understand the world. This means fewer jobs, fewer
creative risks, fewer news sources, and far less diversity in
the stories Americans get to hear. So I think it's
pretty fun and a very direct message.

Speaker 2 (26:28):
And you know, yes, I like I said, I would
rather see that before my movies.

Speaker 1 (26:33):
Yeh, Nicole, Oh boy?

Speaker 2 (26:41):
But yes, I love it. I love it. And what
about that's not true?

Speaker 1 (26:48):
Yeah, So je Fond is speaking out against the merger
and also speaking of speaking up for First Amendment free speech.
So yeah, check out if you check it out, when
a committed Jane Fonda doing her thing. I wonder how
Nicole Kidman. I think Nicole Kidman likes any type of
spoof or parody or yeah version of her AMC you know.

Speaker 2 (27:08):
And what gets me the most is the diversity in
stories and the risks that get taken for art and
the things that we get to, you know, have exposure
to as a community together to get grow.

Speaker 1 (27:18):
Yes, woo woo who indeed, Well, let's wrap up this
show with opening our vault, our vault, our vault, our
DVD vault collection because, as you know, as a loyal
listener and viewer of the Hub on Hollywood. You know
that we have issues with the current streaming system and
how things are going on. You can't find a movie

(27:38):
anymore on any of the streaming services, apparently because their
lock youet to rent them. You have Netflix, Oh, the
movies on HBO Max. Oh, you have HBO Max, al,
it's on Amazon Prime, you Chat, you have all the
streaming services, but none of the movies are there. You
have to rent it on Amazon Prime or somewhere.

Speaker 2 (27:53):
Else, and it's always changing, it's never quite there. And
then you've got all this behind the scenes stuff going on.

Speaker 1 (27:59):
Yeah, in the corporations, licensing, licensing goes away, movies disappear.
There was one time, so my wife and I were
recently watching a movie. We were watching what was it?
We're watching something. We couldn't get to the end of
it because we're getting tired. We're like, Okay, we'll watch
this tomorrow. So we go back to like HBO Max
to watch it, and it's gone completely gone, And it

(28:21):
was on the soon to be gone list of like
the you know, featured movies that are being shown to
warm but we forgot. We didn't know how soon they were.
I guess sooner than we expected. And so there's a
movie where we just like, dang it, we missed it,
so I forgot what it was and we're really sad.

Speaker 2 (28:37):
And as a result, decided to cancel all of.

Speaker 1 (28:40):
The streams, the assuming services except for you, HBO, Max,
Hold on, Tight, hold on, fight the power. But in
the meantime, we are bringing up and showing our own
a portion of our DVD collection in our vault to
that we will not let go. We will not lose,
they will not change or be taken away from us.
So pro physical a look at this. And I'm a

(29:03):
big advocate for the library. Look at this. I got
this at the library and my local library. It says,
I heart my library, gotta love it. So these are
movies that we recommend that you should get in physical
form before it's too late, before physical media to disappear
too it stops getting Uh.

Speaker 2 (29:22):
This is a great way to protest, right if you
want to get rid of your streaming services or whatever.
I've got some that I'm giving away, folks, But yes,
physical media, because what happens and there's no physical media anymore,
like if the if everything goes down, like what you
can never watch television again. You don't even have a
DVD player or whatever. Anyways, go ahead.

Speaker 1 (29:42):
Okay, so let's go through this. We won't spend too
much time. But of course on my physical forever physical
media in the vaults is iron Man the original Oh wow,
original iron Man number one had this for years, so great.

Speaker 2 (29:58):
An absolute classic that I know every word to the
entire movie, The Secret Garden. My husband and I loved
watching this. I'm in the garden.

Speaker 1 (30:08):
We callin Colin. I've heard I've heard of it.

Speaker 2 (30:14):
I'm gonna lend it to you today. You can watch that.

Speaker 1 (30:17):
Excellent. Everyone's heard of this one. Back to the Future.
This is the three disc collection. So Back to the
Future one, two, and three. Baby, gotta go back in
time to DVDs.

Speaker 2 (30:31):
Who all right, exactly, We're gonna take the the what
do you call the DeLorean seven? Brad Pitt Morgan Freeman,
something that my husband and I also very much love,
that we will never get rid of. Amazing psychological thriller,
the kind of movie.

Speaker 1 (30:49):
That you know makes you think classic and.

Speaker 2 (30:51):
That I feel like we don't get enough of today
And just real quick Sabrina with starring Harrison Ford, my
absolute favorites, even though it didn't age very well.

Speaker 1 (31:01):
My wife and I are going to watch a Harrison
Ford and j Lo movie called I'm Forgetting what it is,
but we're gonna watch it soon. We're talking about I
Didn't Know No George Clooney, Sorry George Clooney. George Clooney
and Jalo movie that came out in nineteen ninety eight.
So that's one movie we're gonna be watching soon. Sorry.
Office Space another classic instant classic. This one gets more

(31:25):
real and funnier as time goes on the more you
live in the working world.

Speaker 2 (31:31):
Yeah, another Harrison Ford classic.

Speaker 1 (31:33):
Boy Laurie, there you go.

Speaker 2 (31:35):
Harrison Ford, Rachel McAdams, Diane Keaton. This is the closest
I feel like to my life, like I would want
to be her. She's It follows a news producer in
New York City and literally the movie ends with her
walking into the sunset with Harrison Ford. I've never identified
with a character more so Morning Glory. That is one
of our definites.

Speaker 1 (31:56):
Excellent Pirates of the Caribbean, fantastic film. It's such a
solid original movie that holds up. The effects are amazing,
the story is great. Uh, this is before Johnny Depp's
you know, Captain Sparrow really starts parioting himself like this
is a solid, solid movie.

Speaker 2 (32:15):
Yes, Cure Knightley also very beautiful. Yeah, my cousin Vinnie
per Father's favor I'm gonna steal that one on. Yeah,
my cousin Vinnie. And if you've got like two minutes, James,
not even a minute thirty v for Vendetta Natalie portmant
Hugo Weaving one of my absolute favorites. Would you like

(32:36):
a very quick monologue? Sure, miss ready Voila in view,
a humble vaude villain veteran cast vicariously is both victim
and villain by the vicissitudes of fate. This visage, no
mere vinie or vanity, is a vestige of a vox
popular long since vanished, vanquished. But this valorous visitation of
a bygone vexation stands vivified and has vowed to vanquish

(32:58):
the virulent vermin van guarding vice and felch, safing the
violent and voracious violation of volition. The only verdict is
vengeance of Vendetta. Health is votive not in vain for
the value and veracity of such a one day, vindicate
the vigilant and the virtuous. Verily, this v she swap
of Virgie is Ar's most verbose. So let me simply
add that is my very good honor to meet you,

(33:21):
and you may call me V.

Speaker 1 (33:22):
Wow. That deserves New Standing ovation. Great job, thank you.

Speaker 2 (33:30):
No, I just I loved that monologue so much that
I memorized it.

Speaker 1 (33:34):
That's amazing. So V for Vendetta, for Vendetta, V for victory, Jamie, uh,
speak of victory. We have Star Wars and the Empire
strikes back. I couldn't find the Return of the Jedi.
I got all these, I got Savers, Savers babies, I know,
so let it go new Hope, Empire strikes back.

Speaker 2 (33:51):
Also take me to Savers.

Speaker 1 (33:53):
Die Hard and anybody say Christmas recently? Die Hard is
your number one? Christmas is so great?

Speaker 2 (33:58):
There a cult classic for me, The Last Dragon We
met Taima. Yeah, who stars in the Last Dragon. Just
a very near and dear film to my heart. Actually,
you can have this one.

Speaker 1 (34:11):
We have I have you have five of them?

Speaker 2 (34:13):
Yeah, I have two of them, so you can if
you want to watch.

Speaker 1 (34:16):
Yeah, I'll take that one.

Speaker 2 (34:17):
An Independence Day Ooh nice, nice original nice for Independence Day.

Speaker 1 (34:22):
Excellent toy story. Toy story. Yeah, we actually started playing
this for my daughter. She got We got about like
a quarter through. She wasn't digging it, so I think
she needs to be a little bit older to get
the story. Another Tom Hanks classic Forrest Gump Baby, Come on,
coome on, Come on, Jenna.

Speaker 2 (34:40):
How about the Indiana Jones trilogy.

Speaker 1 (34:42):
That's good. That's a good, fine gal trilogy.

Speaker 2 (34:47):
Raiders of the Lost Star, Last Crusade, and Temple of Doom.

Speaker 1 (34:51):
That this tower is gonna fall right now. I'm already
predicting it. Look at that. Okay, okay. DHD Teller Knives Out,
Time On, Knives Out over here, Knives Out on Blu
Ray again, instant classic as well. Daniel Craig is amazing.
Also the Legend of Zorro. Come mom, come mom, we
need another Zorro movie asapp I cannot that, you know,

(35:14):
pass this up. This is amazing.

Speaker 2 (35:17):
Mel Brooks History of the World Part one, of course,
one of my favorite Melbrooks movies. Time and Oh, I
dare you to beat this? I love you, Good Morning Vietnam.

Speaker 1 (35:29):
I love that movie. Yeah, I saw. We watched the
movie in our radio broadcasting class in college. Yeah, so
so great. Also, that's great one.

Speaker 2 (35:38):
But yeah, and glad original Glad.

Speaker 1 (35:40):
I love that you've got.

Speaker 2 (35:41):
We've got an excellent collection. My husband will kill me
if I don't bring these.

Speaker 1 (35:44):
This is a great collection.

Speaker 2 (35:45):
I know.

Speaker 1 (35:45):
Wait, these are movies that you need to have at home.
Uppy Christmas Carol, the best Christmas potentially ever. Yeah, yeah,
this is so good.

Speaker 2 (35:54):
I get any other adaptation of Screws.

Speaker 1 (35:57):
Yeah. Michael Caine is perfect in this film because he
treats everybody as if the human and the muppets are hilarious. Yeah,
Honeymoon in Vegas. This one is a new love of mine.
My wife really loves this one, so we started watching
this one. We actually watched this last night.

Speaker 3 (36:11):
Huh.

Speaker 1 (36:11):
I fell asleep because I was up since three o'clock
in the morning. Not because it's not a really fun movie,
but because I was dead tired.

Speaker 2 (36:17):
Another one that has completely shaped my love of you know,
dystopia and stuff like that. Ethan Hawk, Uma Thurman, Jude
Law and Gatica.

Speaker 1 (36:25):
Speaking about Ethan Hawk, yeah, yeah, speaking of look at
these baby faces over here. Let's look at it. Let's
look at that cover in.

Speaker 2 (36:30):
A futuristic world law.

Speaker 1 (36:31):
Every one is gramanear.

Speaker 2 (36:34):
Yeah, Oh my god, I love it. I love this movie.
There is no gene for the human spirit, it says, so, yes.

Speaker 1 (36:42):
Speak about the human spirit. Uh, persevering constantly. Terminator, Judgment
Day two. Love it, Terminator too, Judgment Day. That's good,
Ocean's eleven. Yes, that's such a good movie. Such great vibes,
Ferris Bueller's Day Off.

Speaker 2 (36:57):
Greatest movies ever made, Mueller, Mueller, Dodgeball, good good, fine,
lots of things in our in our family lexicon that yes.

Speaker 1 (37:13):
Yes, Your Trip unrated. You had to get the unrated
version version. Yes, goodness, this is one.

Speaker 2 (37:19):
Of the greatest I could watch this the rest of
my life.

Speaker 1 (37:22):
That is such And Scotty doesn't know. Scotty doesn't know
tell such a vibe.

Speaker 2 (37:27):
Scotty doesn't know because it's one of the best made
for movie yeah songs ever created.

Speaker 1 (37:34):
This is one of those last of its type movies.
You can't make these, You can't make these type of
movies anymore, or there haven't been any good ones, you know,
like this. That's saying Your Trip is like you know,
Costa Blanco, but but for what it is, and it's
type of genre. It is excuss excusy, yeah.

Speaker 2 (37:51):
Everything about Yeah, yes, yes, euro Trip. Yes, if you
want to borrow mine, reach out. Here we go.

Speaker 1 (37:57):
This next one of yours I watched in the movie
theater like three times. I loved this movie.

Speaker 2 (38:02):
The Curious Cage of Benjamin, but.

Speaker 1 (38:04):
The Curious Case. I think he's a Curious.

Speaker 2 (38:06):
Case of Benjamin. But I don't know what I said.

Speaker 1 (38:08):
It's a cage, like a cage, curious cage match.

Speaker 2 (38:11):
What I love about this movie, besides of being an
actually really good movie, is that Brad Pitt gets hotter
and hotter throughout the entire movie. Right.

Speaker 1 (38:20):
Yeah, I remember like feeling such an emotional impact of
this movie, just because like his relationship with his mom
and like, oh, oh man, such a beautiful movie.

Speaker 2 (38:28):
And they meet in the middle. You know, he's with
this person his entire life and they meet in the middle,
and then oh.

Speaker 1 (38:34):
It's beautiful, beautiful and the cutting edge, the cutting edge.

Speaker 2 (38:38):
Yeah, it was such a great romance. This is one
of my first great romance that I watched. A hockey
player and a figure skater who come together and have
to become.

Speaker 1 (38:47):
How are they gonna work together? How are they gonna
make this happen.

Speaker 2 (38:51):
These two very attractive people.

Speaker 1 (38:53):
Who's in that? Who are those people?

Speaker 2 (38:57):
Moira Kelly and dB Sweeney?

Speaker 1 (39:00):
No idea who they are, but yeah, I remember that movie
as a kid. Let's see what we have, Paddington. These
are still stealed. My wife got me these Paddington and
Paddington too, of course, So again I'm waiting to rip
these open when my daughter's a little bit older, because
she loves Paddington the books, and so we have like
a bunch of books that we love going through. But
I want to wait till she is a little bit

(39:22):
older so she can like have more of an understanding
of the world, I guess, to get an understanding of
the story to really feel the emotional impact of Paddington. So, yeah,
my favorite. I love Paddington too. One of the best
movies I've ever heard. You say that, I know it's
a little secret of mine, is a little unknown secret
I don't tell everybody.

Speaker 2 (39:42):
Yeah, he doesn't say it every chance ever.

Speaker 1 (39:45):
Ever.

Speaker 2 (39:46):
All right, I have a quick story about this one,
Bridge to Terabithia. Were you ever forced to read this book?

Speaker 1 (39:52):
I was never forced to read it, and I never
saw the.

Speaker 2 (39:54):
Movie okay, Oh, so you don't know the twist.

Speaker 1 (39:57):
I do. I've heard of it through osmosis of the internet.

Speaker 2 (40:00):
I never read the book. I didn't know about this story.
When my husband and I were first dating, He's like, oh,
let's watch this super cute movie together. Yeah, and I
had no idea what was coming. I almost I almost
it never happened, almost didn't happen. Okay, I almost broke
up with him. As soon as this movie over was over,
I was in I was so distraught. I was crying

(40:21):
so hard. I kicked him off the bed. I'm like,
how dare you let me watch this movie without warning
me about this horrible traumatic ending?

Speaker 1 (40:32):
No, no, hear me out. So there's the there's the
there's the thing. You can either go in knowing what
happens and then you don't feel the impact of the moment,
or is it better to feel that impact of the moment.

Speaker 2 (40:45):
I feel it too strongly. I feel it too strongly.

Speaker 1 (40:48):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (40:49):
I'm the kind of person that whenever I get a
new book, I read the end of the book first,
just to know whether or not it's safe for me
to continue.

Speaker 1 (40:56):
Jamie, we are like, we're like oil and water. We
make this work, we still make it mixed.

Speaker 2 (41:02):
It's just it's too much. It hurts too much, It
hurts too much. And then and look who this is?

Speaker 1 (41:07):
Yeah, a little Hutchinson, Yeah, little Josh Josh Hutchinson. He
and Jennifer Jennifer Lawrence are coming back from the Hungry Games.

Speaker 2 (41:18):
Yeah, that's too So this was his first and he
was such a great actor. He knocked it out of
the ark his performance there at the.

Speaker 1 (41:26):
Also five Nights of Freddy's Oh.

Speaker 2 (41:28):
God, Yes, Bridge to Drebithia, guys.

Speaker 1 (41:33):
All right, Jurassic Park, classic of this movie. And The Mummy. Well, yeah, Brenan,
we're making the Mummy for they're coming back, Brendan Fraser,
Rachel will Advice coming back.

Speaker 2 (41:49):
Yes, every bisexuals Awakening, the Mummy generation. And this is
another one where I have an extra. I've watched this
movie dozens and dozens of times.

Speaker 1 (41:59):
Love Big Big Fish.

Speaker 2 (42:01):
I cry every time I'm starring you and McGregor.

Speaker 1 (42:04):
I love it.

Speaker 2 (42:05):
Magical realism. It's another one of those, you know, just
really interesting stories that you don't get told enough.

Speaker 1 (42:10):
Tim Burn's best film, Yeah, Tim Burn's best film ever.

Speaker 2 (42:14):
I agree, Big Fish Man. If you don't already have
one of these? I have two, you can have one.

Speaker 1 (42:18):
I was, yes, please, yo, yay, Jamie's giving me a
bunch of other movies that she doesn't want or has
multiple multiples of that story. Really quick about Big Fish,
I actually again, this movie is one of those movies
that pop in your head every now and then, like
like you know, on a not a regular basis, but
enough where it possed in my head. I'm like, man,
I need to say that final scene again, or I

(42:38):
need to see this scene. So like two weeks ago,
I was literally on YouTube watching the ending scene of
this movie and just like tearing up because it's so beautiful.
It is. Yeah, I'm like, in my work car, people
are walking by, like why does I do.

Speaker 2 (42:52):
In the car?

Speaker 1 (42:54):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (42:55):
That makes total sense. Yeah, artificial intelligence?

Speaker 1 (42:59):
Good movie again? Maybe Faced Jude Law excellent, Baby Face excellent.

Speaker 2 (43:06):
Steven Spielberg, artificial intelligence. You're complaining about.

Speaker 1 (43:12):
My beautiful was? I take back any criticism?

Speaker 2 (43:16):
Okay?

Speaker 1 (43:16):
Okay, so maybe a couple more.

Speaker 2 (43:19):
Let's see if there's just one or two worth mentioning
office space.

Speaker 1 (43:22):
There we go. You already had that Pleasantville is a
great one. Toby Maguire. Princess Brian made.

Speaker 2 (43:29):
The Princess bre Live without It.

Speaker 1 (43:32):
Not another teen movie. That's a good one.

Speaker 2 (43:34):
People. You know this younger generation that him as Captain America. No,
he is the dude from not another team. That's so good,
mister Chris Evans. Yeah, man Wally, excellent movie, excellent movie.
DVD blue wal Men and tights because men.

Speaker 1 (43:54):
Tights, tights. Yes, goodness, this is so good.

Speaker 2 (44:00):
There we go. This is why you need to have
physical media, guys, because streaming services could pull the plug
at any time.

Speaker 1 (44:06):
And not only this, but like like Jamie is letting
me borrow some movies and they giving me some you
can you can't trade movies on streaming services like you can.
You have a discussion, you show what you have, you lend,
you borrow, you give.

Speaker 2 (44:20):
So yeah, and don't you miss the joy of like
going to Blooster Video and like just looking in together,
like we got to reconnect as humans.

Speaker 1 (44:29):
People, So support your public library. I heart my library
because they're the new Blockbuster Video. Basically, let us know
what is in your DVD collection, what don't we have
and what should we have? What should we add to
the vaults? An at vaults sound right here, Yeah, but yeah,
let us know what you have common down below join

(44:50):
the conversation. Thanks so much for joining us on this
awesome episode of The Hub on Hollywood. Yeah, Jamie, any
other recommendations at any movie, any mobi day, any white
whale out there that you're trying to get in physical form.

Speaker 2 (45:04):
That I'm trying to get in physical form. I also
have Dogma, which is the white whale. Yeah, that is
so precious to me. I didn't even want to bring
it here today.

Speaker 1 (45:13):
Because I would have stolen it. Yeah, because it's.

Speaker 2 (45:16):
Like a hot commodity. People like pay hundreds of dollars
for the physical form even though it looks like we're
going to be getting it again available finally. But I've
been able to watch it this entire time, Wow, because
I've had it. So, I mean it's it's things like
that too, that you know that that you love that
you might not be able to get access to. It's
to actually physically have it, James. So that's my white whale.

Speaker 1 (45:38):
Yeah, what about we recently got a little white whale
my wife and I because we were for the past
couple of years, we've talked about missus doubtfire surprisingly a
lot talking about like, you know, the internet, says Miranda.
The mom is like the is like really annoying, and
it's like a really bad Oh yeah, at first to meet
remind a little bit as a kid. When you're watching it,
you see Miranda as the one who's splitting up the family,

(45:59):
who forcing Robin Williams to dress as Missus dell Fire
because she's not letting him look at the kids and
all this other stuff. As you get older, you kind
of realize that Robert Williams is not being a great
dad at all, and he's making life difficult. And Miranda
even says, I don't like who I am with you.
I don't like who you make me become or be,
And so you kind of see like, oh, maybe Robin

(46:21):
Williams this is a horror film because Robin Williams, the
ex husband, has reinfiltrated the house dressed in disguise, and
you're confiding in this person and you have no idea
who this person really is, and so it's a big
betrayal when you find out who they are, because Missus
Deufier in a sense dies. But then you but then
now my wife and I are kind of swinging back.
We're like, they're both of them. They're not perfect. Yeah,

(46:44):
during the during the culmination to the divorce. Yeah, Robin Williams,
he's not really there as a father. He is undermining
Miranda and and he's just not being a really good
husband when the divorce goes through. Miranda she's not being
a really good I guess partner when sharing the kids
because there are times where she cuts in on Robin

(47:05):
Williams's time with the kids and and he's she's trying
to take away visitation. And so there's a lot of
Now my wife and I have realized there it's more
even of no one's perfect, no one's wrong or evil.
But anyway, so we recently got Missus out Fire. Okay, good,
we may watch it this weekend. So that was our

(47:25):
little white whale that we've been looking for for a while.
We actually got it. I bought it online, so I
