Speaker 1 (00:00):
I feel like the CP we've really established, like our sound.
(00:02):
Everything I do, I'm independent's everything I do is me?
Speaker 2 (00:05):
Who do you want tour with? Any bad?
Speaker 1 (00:08):
Any been evanescence in three days? Chris? I, what's up?
Speaker 2 (00:12):
It's Alex.
Speaker 1 (00:12):
You're listening to the Kevin Powell Podcast. You can find
me on social media at official alex a l y
x x or my website Official alex a l i
xx dot com. Thank you for having me Thany.
Speaker 2 (00:27):
Guys, welcome back to an episode of Kevin Bell Podcast.
I'll Kevin Powell. I'm here at incarcerations best and who
do I have with me? But Alex, we have purple
and green hair. I love it. You stayed out. Whatever
you walk through reals like messer, can't messer. How you
feel today?
Speaker 1 (00:40):
I feel awesome. I feel like this whole day is
just flying by.
Speaker 2 (00:44):
So how has it been so far? I know it's
flying by, but other than that, it's been amazing.
Speaker 1 (00:49):
So we played at eleven forty five today and it
was just amazing and me being on stage and seeing
people like singing along to the song, it was just surreal.
Was not expecting anyone to know any of the songs,
so you.
Speaker 2 (01:00):
Didn't start the festival off, but you're still pretty early,
so I bet being out there and seeing people sing
along that earlier like for me, you know.
Speaker 1 (01:09):
What, you're awake?
Speaker 2 (01:10):
Yeah, right, So you guys have new salt, like a
new single out right, We have a new EP. That's it,
So tell me about that. What's it called? Wanted to
come out? Who mix it, mastered? Anything you want to
talk about.
Speaker 1 (01:21):
Yeah, So the EP came out. I think it was
April eighteen, I should know that date. It's called EMBERWAK.
So it's just about you know, kind of being reborn
and coming back better and stronger. And I feel like
the EP we've really established like our sound, and it's
just been such an amazing experience. At truthfully, I actually
wrote to EPs, so this is literally the second one
because I was like, I think we can do more
(01:42):
and we could do better, and it literally was just
us building from within. So it was awesome. So I
mixed it was mixed by Jeff Dunn who'd done that
took stuff, and then it was recorded at my home
studio and then at my drummer studio.
Speaker 2 (01:55):
It's always going to ask about that next. So when
it comes to writing recording, mixing, mastering, any of that.
Are you front helm doing the law of the work,
all of the work. How does that go down.
Speaker 1 (02:06):
Most of me? Yeah, So I usually demo everything in
my home studio, in my basement, and you know, come
to the guys, I'm like, hey, likes the song, and
they'll add like you're on drums, guitar, because I just
program everything. I play piano and like strings and stuff
like that. So we do everything on our own and
then we just send it off to get mixed and mastered.
Speaker 2 (02:21):
So you are the producer and everyone else gets to
kind of have their hand in there, but ultimately it's
your call how you wanted to sound and everything like that.
Speaker 1 (02:29):
That's right. Everything I do, I'm independent. It's everything I
do is me.
Speaker 2 (02:33):
That's awesome. So when it comes too much, too much freedom?
Too much freedom, all right? I mean how much money
have you saved? Oh? A lot, that's as trade off,
that's true. Are you here all three days this weekend?
I am so here. Are you most excited to see.
Speaker 1 (02:46):
Westy sliping on again? I'd see in the middle of
a while. That's a sleep theory. They're really awesome. Honestly,
there are just so many I wrote down on the app,
like everyone.
Speaker 2 (02:54):
I need to see I have a list. I don't
know if I'm going to follow it because at this
point you're just kind of like, but think I called
it it all again. I get to see knock Loose
and that's it today.
Speaker 1 (03:03):
They're gonna be awesome. But time do they go on?
Speaker 2 (03:05):
I don't know, let's not promote them.
Speaker 1 (03:06):
No, I'll look at the app.
Speaker 2 (03:07):
Yeah, let me call Brian real quick.
Speaker 1 (03:09):
A lot of times that's got one.
Speaker 2 (03:12):
So incarceration you played. What's coming up next for you?
What do you want to do? So?
Speaker 1 (03:16):
I have some more music coming out. I have a
couple of claps with friends of mine, so just having
that be released as of right now, nothing official, but
you know, I'm looking to tour the beginning of next
year stuff like that. So just follow me and you'll
find out.
Speaker 2 (03:30):
Well that's next year. What about this year?
Speaker 1 (03:32):
This year, it's really just music, A lot more music
coming out.
Speaker 2 (03:34):
Okay, are you writing a lot more music? Yes?
Speaker 1 (03:37):
So, I mean I'm always writing. Like I said, I
have a couple of clubs coming out that is gonna
be like kind of tracking through the end of the year.
Speaker 2 (03:43):
Okay, So so as soon as you get home, you're
right back to music.
Speaker 1 (03:46):
Oh yeah, I mean I'm always in a basement.
Speaker 2 (03:49):
I love there. How long did it take your set
up the home studio.
Speaker 1 (03:52):
It's a work in progress.
Speaker 2 (03:53):
Truthfully.
Speaker 1 (03:53):
COVID kind of like influenced me to do that, because
World Dondon.
Speaker 2 (03:57):
I was like, I need to do shit. One's answer
I included, Yeah, you have your own home studio. Yes,
and it's never done. That's also the answer.
Speaker 1 (04:05):
Oh yeah, no, no, it does acumatic thing.
Speaker 2 (04:07):
So which is where you get to save money but
also spend money? Oh yeah, never get in.
Speaker 1 (04:13):
The long run, but like the immediate I'm like, oh,
I need more plugins and.
Speaker 2 (04:16):
You know, yes.
Speaker 1 (04:17):
Year.
Speaker 2 (04:18):
Now, if you get to hear this in the background,
have you had any of the coffee here yet?
Speaker 1 (04:21):
No?
Speaker 2 (04:21):
I have not. It's a good all right, listen, this
is actually just the coffee podcast. Now. If you are
with Alex, yes exactly. If you like coffee, I mean,
I'm sorry you guys don't get the experiences, but we
will artists and media. Well, it's pretty good. I gotta
milka cole brew. I get it here every year, all right.
Speaker 1 (04:39):
Even yeah, I mean I love coffee, so okay, anything,
so you'll be capping.
Speaker 2 (04:44):
Is this your first big festival?
Speaker 1 (04:46):
I played Blue Red Rock Festival in.
Speaker 2 (04:48):
Twenty twenty one, Tony bl do how'd that go?
Speaker 1 (04:50):
It was twenty and oh no, yeah, okay, this is.
Speaker 2 (04:54):
Twenty twenty one.
Speaker 1 (04:54):
So this was the first year after the pandemic.
Speaker 2 (04:57):
Okay, okay.
Speaker 1 (04:58):
So it was insane and a good way, like a
lot you know, chaos and whatnot, but in the sense that,
like everyone was so excited to get out of their house.
Speaker 2 (05:07):
The turnout was insane.
Speaker 1 (05:08):
Like there were just so many fucking people there, and
everyone there was just so happy to be there, and
it was it was like ninety five degrees in humid,
but everyone's just so happy, you know.
Speaker 2 (05:16):
I was cool. Do you know why there were so
many people there because COVID Yeah, they wanted to get
out of Oh yeah, I was one of them. I
wanted to know what that dynamic was like, because honestly,
it's just kind of a blur at this point, I
don't really remember. Yeah, like five six years ago, oh wow, yeah,
Oh it's shit. So let's say that's the first big
(05:37):
festival COVID era walking out on stage for that, how
was it? What happened. What were the people like compared
to now?
Speaker 1 (05:46):
It was, I mean kind of a similar vibe. You know.
I got up on stage and it was just, you know,
everyone was just so into it. It was really cool.
And again same here, Like I got up on that
stage and I just looked out in the audience and
then there were just so many people and everyone just
smiling and like cheering, and they were just like, let's go,
and it was you know, it's the beginning of the best.
So everyone's you know, I'm not tired exhausted yet, so
(06:07):
everyone has some much more energy.
Speaker 2 (06:08):
And I was like, yes, I got everyone in their prime. Okay,
And what other festivals do you want to play? This
is what we're putting it into the world. We're putting
it into universe.
Speaker 1 (06:18):
I want to play every single festival that there is.
Speaker 2 (06:21):
So there's where I live on New York. Okay. So
I mean after shocks on a trek.
Speaker 1 (06:28):
Yeah, California laden life of life be nice.
Speaker 2 (06:33):
As long as there's no hurricanes. This year was the
hurricane this past year. Yeah, we were there. Yeah, I
think the first day was okay, second what was it?
The second day? The second day got rained out and
that was the day why Slayer was supposed to play. Yeah,
so imagine that Slayer's big comeback cancel. Oh god, I'm fisted.
(06:53):
I should just I don't know. Yeah, now, I mean
they had Day three and Day four and yeah, they've
played a couple other things since then. But this is
in the sleigh or Talk hour. I'm just saying, if
you play, I'm gonna cross my fingers for you, it
doesn't hurricane and you have a great time.
Speaker 1 (07:07):
Yes, I mean it was raining on stage, so that's okay.
At some point where like the wind was kicking up
and it was just all I was just.
Speaker 2 (07:13):
Like, this is my life now. Oh I can't wait
to see the pictures from that lie.
Speaker 1 (07:17):
I saw some already and they look pretty cool.
Speaker 2 (07:19):
All right, you got to show me next. So when
it comes down to what you want to do with
your career, what are some of the bigger things You're like,
I'm doing this, this is happening. I just want to tour.
Speaker 1 (07:31):
I want to tour with huge bands. My goal is
like slightly unrealistic is play at massive squarre Garden as
a New Yorker. That is like I've been there so
many times and just like being like on the floor,
like being right by the stage. I was like, I
looked out and I'm like, one day, one day, who
do you want to tour with? Any Bean? Evanescence and
(07:52):
three Days Grace.
Speaker 2 (07:53):
Okay, three days Grace will be here this weekend. I know.
I'm very excited. I don't know if you've met them yet.
Speaker 1 (07:59):
I've met Adam before, but not on stage, not professionally. Yeah,
well sort of. I got to meet him for this
like interview thing.
Speaker 2 (08:07):
But yeah, okay, okay, as well, that might be a
great opportunity to be like, hey, hey, I love you,
you love me? Okidding, let's sing together? Okay, So the
three Days Race of it Essence, So.
Speaker 1 (08:19):
They were like my biggest influences growing up, so I
think being able to share the stage with them would
be amazing.
Speaker 2 (08:24):
What do you think of their new materials so far?
I love it. I'm excited. I think it's really cool.
I'm excited to say it too. I can't tell you
the last couple of albums I've had, which is unfortunate.
I don't remember names.
Speaker 1 (08:34):
I'm so bad. The thing is like I still buy
physical CDs and like I know albums. Of course, people
are like, oh, this song from this album? Like, dude,
I can't even remember my own songs at this point.
Speaker 2 (08:42):
I stopped buying CDs a long time ago. What shame
I likes?
Speaker 1 (08:47):
Okay, finals, I guess that's still count it's physical media.
Speaker 2 (08:49):
Yeah, exactly right. So if I asked this question for
every band, it doesn't matter who it is, where they
are in their life, anything, what advice would you give
the bands just starting out or want to make their
way to seeing a stage something like this?
Speaker 1 (09:05):
I said, just keep going and find out you know
what makes you. You. Don't try to be someone else
because you just be authentic because you're the only version
of yourself and it's going to be frustrating, but just
keep going, and you really have to have the heart
for it as well, because there's going to be a
lot of times where you just feel so disappointed. But
then you know, you blink one day and you're playing Incarceration.
Speaker 2 (09:27):
So yeah, just keep going, don't stop, and you get
the place on Exemple and all the other festivals. With that,
any final words you want to say to fans, no,
just follow.
Speaker 1 (09:36):
