Speaker 1 (00:04):
It's up, guys, it's day three.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
You'll see a little bit of dread ub, but it
kind of feels nice because this has been hot in
you and all day and we had to get through
the flood from yesterday. But we got convictions. How you
guys doing good?
Speaker 1 (00:13):
Man? How you doing good?
Speaker 3 (00:14):
Doing really good?
Speaker 1 (00:15):
Thank you? Once you go and introduce yourselves. What you
guys do in the band.
Speaker 3 (00:18):
Yeah, I'm Michael.
Speaker 4 (00:18):
I'm the front man with of Convictions, and I'm really
bad at interview sometimes.
Speaker 5 (00:22):
I'm Quentin I and the clean singer and guitars of
the band. So guitar question, what brand guitar are you using?
Speaker 1 (00:29):
Why?
Speaker 5 (00:30):
So I'm running a legator for my drop F songs
and an LTD for our like older songs that.
Speaker 2 (00:36):
We can play wonderful Okay, I love guitar stuff. We
can talk about legat wor ol day. But we're all
gonna do that because people will be like, what are
you talking about? And Mike's gonna be like, so you
played Incarceration had a.
Speaker 1 (00:45):
Few probably my favorite show, like ever, Okay, what I had?
Speaker 3 (00:50):
Like my whole family here, it's like a family reunion.
Speaker 1 (00:52):
We're here in Ohio. We're from Ohio.
Speaker 4 (00:54):
So, yeah, this was sick being able to perform at
this awesome. Yeah, I can see bad at interviews. My
family's here. I'm really happy a good show. So this
is your first time a day? Was this your first, Danny?
We were presents festival. No, we've We've done Aftershock and
we've been to a couple others as well.
Speaker 3 (01:12):
I've been to Sonic Temple.
Speaker 5 (01:14):
We did Welcome to Rock that like, we didn't play it,
but we were.
Speaker 1 (01:17):
We were there at Bunk.
Speaker 2 (01:18):
You've literally been to almost all of them except this one, yeah,
pretty much.
Speaker 1 (01:21):
Yeah, and this was the best one.
Speaker 3 (01:23):
It's it's up to Yeah, my favorite show.
Speaker 1 (01:25):
Yeah, it's the best. It's the best one.
Speaker 2 (01:28):
So did you guys get the tour of the prison
yet or do anything like that yet or.
Speaker 3 (01:31):
Uh not yet.
Speaker 4 (01:32):
But I've actually done it like twice already with my family.
Speaker 3 (01:36):
Just okay, it's tourists, so I kind of I would
know what to expect, but I don't know if you
I have not.
Speaker 5 (01:42):
I have not done a tour yet.
Speaker 3 (01:43):
I might do it later, I don't know.
Speaker 4 (01:45):
And there's like a haunted house or something on I
was gonna say the haunted house is the one that
like piques my interest the most. So when you walked
out on stage and saw all these people, what's.
Speaker 1 (01:53):
Running through your head? Hit your marks, do a good joff.
This isn't your first show.
Speaker 2 (01:59):
But of people you know have never played in front
of this audience like that, or you know, maybe they're
not musicians and are just fans than music, Well sometimes
it'd be a little intimidating.
Speaker 3 (02:09):
Yeah, definitely. I mean, I don't know.
Speaker 4 (02:11):
Yeah, we have been doing it a long time, but
I feel like, one, we're playing our home state in
front of our family and friends, so like that gives
a lot, gives me a lot of comfort.
Speaker 3 (02:21):
And then yeah, seeing a bigger crowd.
Speaker 4 (02:22):
I'd rather play in front of a lot of people
than like few people. It's way scary of playing in
front of a few people. So now we're built for this.
Speaker 2 (02:29):
Well okay, so I don't I talked to I think
Draichiel Logic yesterday and maybe I'm wrong, I'll remember, but
I asked I do you prefer nos U need to underground?
Do you prefer larger shows like this outside.
Speaker 1 (02:42):
Bigger festival or smaller club shows? Both of you? Which one?
Wy ooh, that's a good question.
Speaker 5 (02:50):
Honestly, I think I like the outdoor, bigger shows just
because I feel like there's a lot more energy and
to beat off from the crowd, and just I like
going wild on those big stages.
Speaker 3 (03:01):
Yeah, I would agree.
Speaker 4 (03:02):
I like the festivals a little more, but the club
shows have a different type of energy and so and
like that's what we're used to. We do a lot
of club shows. So I think for me, the trick
now that we're doing these festivals is bringing that club
energy into like the grand spectacle that you know, these
festivals are so looking for things like circle pits, small depth.
Speaker 3 (03:22):
You know, I like sing along, so.
Speaker 4 (03:23):
Those are like having that connection with the crowd is
super important for us.
Speaker 3 (03:27):
So it's like a little bit of a.
Speaker 4 (03:28):
Challenge, but in a fun way to try and how
do we scale this up in front of thousands versus hundreds?
Speaker 2 (03:34):
I mean when you go out there, I mean, one,
you got a bigger stage, you can flip around, you can.
Speaker 1 (03:39):
Kick, you can run. I mean that's that's fun.
Speaker 2 (03:41):
And did you what backdrop did you have behind you,
like to anyone's gear or anything like that.
Speaker 4 (03:45):
We actually just got a new backdrop. You're talking about
our like the stage backdrop.
Speaker 1 (03:49):
Kind of so I do want to know about that.
Speaker 2 (03:51):
But yesterday when we were watching still Art to Prevail
behind them was all slipknots stuff, So with anything like
that there or no.
Speaker 1 (03:59):
There was some so I think there are like house
caps okay on our own gear. Yeah. Nice.
Speaker 2 (04:04):
Well I was gonna say, if you have the full
stage to do everyone, well, all right, now we're off
to the races. But that's okay.
Speaker 3 (04:09):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (04:09):
Tell me about the new scrim Yeah, well.
Speaker 4 (04:11):
We just picked it up, but we've only used it
like three times now, so it was nice to fly
it outside today.
Speaker 1 (04:16):
And how big is it? I'm not going to cover
the entire stage. Is it like five hundred fet by
five hundred feet or no.
Speaker 3 (04:22):
That's not that big.
Speaker 5 (04:23):
I think it was only like like fifteen feet or something.
Speaker 1 (04:26):
We said, not too big.
Speaker 3 (04:27):
Yeah, we need a bigger one. It's a it's like
more club size.
Speaker 1 (04:30):
Nice.
Speaker 2 (04:31):
Do you prefer the physical scrims or do you prefer
the digital scrims. Digital shrims is all the way so
much easier, right, yeah, and it just upload a file
and it moves.
Speaker 1 (04:41):
Yeah okay, So what was your favorite song to play?
Both of you today? And one.
Speaker 3 (04:46):
I'm always a big fan of the War that following
Me Home.
Speaker 5 (04:48):
I think that's probably like my favorite one to perform live.
Speaker 4 (04:52):
I think for me, the price of grace, like the
meaning behind the song and being able to talk about
mental health is really important for us, and it it
was like really rewarding. We had a lot of people
come forward after the show and tell us our experiences
with that. But beyond that, it was just kind of
like a victory lap. It was the last song we're playing,
and you know, we I had already felt really confident
with the set, so by the time we got to
(05:13):
that song, it was just kind of like a almost
like a victory lap.
Speaker 3 (05:16):
And then I got to like crowd walk too, So
that was really fun.
Speaker 2 (05:18):
Did you see a lot of tears in the os
out there?
Speaker 3 (05:21):
I don't know what I saw. It's probably sweat in
my own eyes.
Speaker 4 (05:23):
I was I had a tonnel Like on Standby he
was all, Blair, I feel you.
Speaker 1 (05:27):
So we did a new red Ducts of the album,
right we did?
Speaker 3 (05:31):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (05:32):
He's like, yeah, we did?
Speaker 3 (05:33):
Did I forgot?
Speaker 1 (05:34):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (05:34):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (05:36):
But that doesn't mean you guys are done. You probably
were already writing something else.
Speaker 3 (05:40):
Yes, Uh yeah, we're actively in the studio. So it's
actually funny.
Speaker 4 (05:44):
We were in the studio like I think a week
before we went off on this last month long tour,
not even a week off, so I think we had
like three days off when we got there. So yeah,
it's it's been a challenging, like juggling act of like
saying creative and writing new material, but also like performing
on a high level.
Speaker 2 (06:01):
Now, you guys are the only band I get asked
this this weekend? Is it really that crazy to think
that metal and Christianity or religion can like be together.
I think of bands that I grew up with, like
in Pending Doom, Sleeping Giant, and I see comments all
the time and they're like Christian metal, what do you mean?
Speaker 1 (06:20):
It's like, do you not listen to that? It's fantastic.
Speaker 3 (06:24):
Yeah, I mean if you read the Bible, it's it's
pretty metal.
Speaker 1 (06:26):
So what is coming up next? For Convictions? We just
did inc what's next to?
Speaker 5 (06:32):
So in a couple of months, we just announced our
fall tour with demon Hunter saying our friends and cultists,
So I'm really stoked for that.
Speaker 4 (06:39):
Yeah, we're gonna do that, and then we're hitting the
festival in a couple of weeks. Oh yeah, that's called Immersed.
Speaker 5 (06:45):
Fast, Immersed Fast, Immersion fast and one of those two something.
Speaker 3 (06:48):
We're gonna get in trouble for that.
Speaker 4 (06:49):
Yeah, we'll announcing that, and yeah we're we're playing around
with the going back to the studio and then getting
our tour schedule filed for spring.
Speaker 3 (06:57):
Which we already have a few few things on the
table for that.
Speaker 2 (07:00):
When you say studios, like your own studio, do you
go to somebody?
Speaker 3 (07:03):
We go to the studio. Yeah, it's up in Grand Rapids.
It's with Lee from Hall Front.
Speaker 1 (07:08):
Okay, awesome.
Speaker 2 (07:09):
I talked to a lot of people this weekend and
some have their own studio, like Fronds is over there
talking to Jesse and I talked to them earlier and
they do all their stuff in house.
Speaker 1 (07:18):
So I didn't know if you guys were like.
Speaker 4 (07:20):
No, there's yeah, it's a bit of both. I know
Quentin and patar guitar players. They've been doing a lot
of the composition work getting demos ready for you know,
in the studio. So these guys are always writing and
they have their own their old studios. I know Pat
has his like full blown professional studios so it's just
kind of a collaborative effort.
Speaker 3 (07:38):
Awesome.
Speaker 4 (07:38):
So if someone who has never seen a Conviction show before,
they're in the crowd, maybe they've heard of you guys
just in passing.
Speaker 1 (07:45):
What are the in score for aggressive worship? That's the way? Yes, yeah, okay, good,
I heard drop ups, so I'm already on board.
Speaker 4 (07:53):
Now.
Speaker 1 (07:53):
I love your music. It's great. The re Ducks is great.
Speaker 2 (07:56):
The newest I have one of your album this is
the Blue one of the White Sea on Oh, that's
that will become. Yes, I have all of your signatures
on there from like years and years ago.
Speaker 1 (08:04):
Wow, I pulled.
Speaker 2 (08:04):
I was going through my CD collection. I was like,
oh my god, I've heard about this. So I was like, hell, yeah,
I brought it an ancient relic.
Speaker 1 (08:10):
I know.
Speaker 3 (08:10):
I'm sorry.
Speaker 1 (08:11):
I'll send you a photo on Instagram or something.
Speaker 2 (08:13):
So when it comes to twenty twenty six, anything and
the works for that yet or not.
Speaker 4 (08:18):
You want to, Well, we're working on a new record
and busy tour schedule.
Speaker 3 (08:23):
So basically, more more convictions, more of the time.
Speaker 1 (08:27):
More convictions. That's what we'd love to hear.
Speaker 2 (08:29):
Now, do you guys have any advice for bands that
might just be starting out, maybe they've been around for
less than a year. Any advice you would give to
them moving forward in today's age.
Speaker 5 (08:39):
I'm not quite sure.
Speaker 3 (08:41):
But well, I'm a shameless plug.
Speaker 4 (08:44):
I'm a vocal instructor, so I'm teaching people how to scream.
I think the big thing is just practicing your craft,
spending most of the most time with that, and being
super persistent. I've been doing this for twenty years. Like
it wasn't overnight, and it still isn't. So it's it's
a it's a journey. There's gonna be highs and lows,
and you have to be prepared for that. And yeah,
just stay hard nosed and focus on your craft and
(09:06):
keep pushing. Don't stop.
Speaker 1 (09:08):
Don't stop.
Speaker 2 (09:09):
Easy enough advice, but great advice all the same. Any
final words you guys want to say to fans?
Speaker 3 (09:14):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (09:14):
Wait, what was the question?
Speaker 3 (09:15):
Final words?
Speaker 1 (09:16):
Oh, rock On, rock On, thank you're a fans.
Speaker 5 (09:20):
Thank you for supporting us, Thank you for the amazing support,
Like we would not be here without any single one
of you, honestly.
Speaker 4 (09:28):
Yeah, it's it's been a long journey and we've been
playing like the underdog card for a while. And I
feel like our fans have really rallied behind us with
this last release of the Fear of God. So yeah,
thank you to our fans. We wouldn't be here without you.
It's Convictions. Check out the Fear of God.
Speaker 2 (09:43):
Check out all the albums start the finish, never ended
and they just played inc and they had a great time.
So make sure you check out all those live videos.
You know it would be circulating online. You could see
all that fun stuff. Join twenty six more Convictions, like
these guys said, so get ready for that.
Speaker 1 (09:57):
Thanks for checking us out. We'll see you later.
