Speaker 1 (00:00):

and listening to the Kevin Powell podcast.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
Of Guys Day two Loved in Life. It's Kevin Pelle.
You're with the Kevin Pelle Podcast. You're gonna seeing a
lot of craziness over the last over the next few
days because Day two to Day one is significantly more
foot traffic.

Speaker 3 (00:22):
I see. But who am I here with today? What's up?
Joe from Dead, Matt from Dead?

Speaker 2 (00:26):
And we love Who We love King Parrot, Flesh Water
and Black Breath we do. And you, guys are you
are the first person to recognize this goddamn album. So
that's what this whole interview is about. Okay, Okay, we're
gonna want to talk about listen fair track. You have
to check out Black Breath. They're just so good. Well
I don't now though, right there's alread anything. The drummer
got hurt and the race player. Yeah, but a couple

(00:48):
of the members are doing something. Okay, cool, But anyways,
we're not here to talk about that. Okay, We're here
to talk about you guys all good man.

Speaker 3 (00:53):
What do you guys got going on? You got a
new album out.

Speaker 1 (00:55):
New record, just dropped today today, came out today.

Speaker 3 (00:59):
Check out our new single purpose No the whole album? Yeah, yeah,
let'scheckre ou the whole album. Man, there's lots of there's
a lot of whole new album.

Speaker 2 (01:06):
What's different from this release compared to previous releases.

Speaker 1 (01:10):
I think like we really pushed ourselves on this one,
got a little crazy. It's probably our heaviest and our
catchiest at the same time.

Speaker 4 (01:17):
Yeah, I think everything is different. We really focus in
on the songwriting and just being ourselves.

Speaker 2 (01:22):
Do you guys approach songwriting differently any kind of way
or do you guys always kind of collaborate?

Speaker 3 (01:27):
What's the songwriting process like?

Speaker 1 (01:28):
Well, this time around, one of the things that we
talked about was we had the term future music, where
we wanted to write music that maybe we would write
in like five.

Speaker 3 (01:36):
Years that we wouldn't be writing.

Speaker 1 (01:37):
Right now, to kind of push ourselves to do something
more interesting then maybe what we would have done so
that was something and then these guys are in.

Speaker 3 (01:43):
The studio, how'd you guys cook it up?

Speaker 4 (01:45):
We would agree to never just get stuck on anything.
We would start something and if it was ripping, then
we would keep ripping it. But if it was like, ah,
we would just literally open a new session, start.

Speaker 3 (01:54):
Something brand new. Whoa yeah, I know. Also no messing around,
no time.

Speaker 2 (01:58):
Yeah do you guys it's like go into it thinking, oh,
we only have like two months to do this, or
was it just free rain to kind of do whatever.

Speaker 1 (02:06):
Well, this time we were going through some not so
fun like music industry behind the scenes stuff.

Speaker 3 (02:11):
So we had a lot of time on this one. Okay, Well,
while they're.

Speaker 1 (02:13):
All working that out, we built our own studio in Phoenix,
Trash Island Studios, And if these guys got to work,
I came in and got to work too.

Speaker 3 (02:20):
But you know, they made the music. I came back
at the end. I just sang over it.

Speaker 1 (02:24):
But anyway, like, yeah, we all got to work and
we we probably like forty something songs, and if we
just narrowed it down at the end, we didn't really feel.

Speaker 4 (02:31):
The pressure of time as much as we felt the
pressure is we need to write the realist shit we
can write.

Speaker 1 (02:37):
Yeah, I think like, yeah, like I really love the record.

Speaker 3 (02:41):
I stand by like, I think.

Speaker 1 (02:42):
It's some of the everybody should feel this way about
their own record, But it's some of the dopest shit,
like I just think what I think is fresh. It's
like it like everything we listened to. There's like hard rock, punk, hardcore,
metal core, new metal, industrial, hip hop, everything in between
is it's like all mashed in there.

Speaker 4 (03:00):
We left out literally no influence, Like we would listen
to literally everything and.

Speaker 3 (03:05):
Just see if it inspired us to know. When you
say everything, who what what what?

Speaker 1 (03:11):
Well, it was interesting too because you could probably say
I was listening to this and this is where I
came up with that, but people might hear they would
have no clue, you know, like it could just be
like you listen to a biggie song like the beat
and then you turn that into a heavy riff or
something like like there's a million things that you could do,
you know, like it's all over the place.

Speaker 4 (03:27):
Or like the harmony of something, or like the way
it felt literally like the way this song makes me feel.

Speaker 3 (03:32):
And you're like you're not necessarily saying like I'm gonna
rip this off.

Speaker 4 (03:35):
You're just saying like I'm gonna go with that vibe
and then create something. And it's always totally different. If
you put this two side by side, Wow, it's cool.

Speaker 3 (03:42):
Way to awesome.

Speaker 1 (03:42):
Get it to find a cool groove and we're all
about like groovy head bobbing, bouncing around shit like that.

Speaker 3 (03:48):
Fun. Yeah, I guess fun Like agree, fine, I guess no.

Speaker 2 (03:51):
Yeah, favorite song off the record and why favorite song wasted?

Speaker 4 (03:56):
What it just has that that like raw intensity. I
like really aggressive stuff because it's therapy, you know, And
a lot of these festivals are for people to come
and get that therapy, get that get that ship out
and that that's that song for me?

Speaker 3 (04:10):
Pretty good at this, I should do this. Yeah as Yeah,
I pat myself in the back. But my favorite song
I really like. That's what I'm saying.

Speaker 1 (04:19):
I really love I like fuck with every song really hard,
Like I really like every song.

Speaker 3 (04:24):
I think they're all really interesting.

Speaker 1 (04:26):
But I'll just say I'll just say purpose because it's
the single right now, Like it's it's whatever I think lyrically,
it offers, like, you know, like a lot of hope,
and it offers like something that's universal is to listen
to your intuition and follow that and live inside of
your intuition. I think that's the meaning of life, is
to find your purpose, whether it's music, art, your family, whatever,
you whatever you love, whatever brings you a love and

(04:50):
light into your heart. I think that's that's huge, and
especially and it touches in the song, but especially in
the world we're inundated with so much shit on our
phone and on TV and stuff. Be this, do that,
listen to this. You should be on my side. You
should be on my side all this shit. Just be
an individual. Listen to your intuition, find your own way. Wow,
that's awesome, great mindset there. What was the rock or

(05:13):
metal album that kind of got you into rock or
metal albums?

Speaker 3 (05:17):
Life? Is Peg White Corn or self titled The Great Corn?
We're huge?

Speaker 1 (05:21):
Like, you know, that's a loaded question, okay for me,
you know, like I remember listening to like Some Sabbath
with my dad when I was growing up, so we
had the sold my soul to rock and roll, which
is like, I think it's a best stuff actually, but
that one, and then I think some of the most
impactful stuff man, like probably Nirvana, never mind Corn first record,
Like those two were really important for me.

Speaker 4 (05:42):
I got I got into Corn and then Pantera at
the same time. And I was like, you were saying, yeah,
I was listening to a lot of music helped into
that point, But I just remember the light bulb going
off and being like, oh, I know I'm going to do.

Speaker 1 (05:54):
I love what I'm Yeah, yeah, d Vulgar like Vulgar
was pretty pretty special for sure.

Speaker 3 (05:59):
What do you think about it? You know?

Speaker 2 (06:00):
Yeah, Corn is the band like I mean a seven
string guitars. But are either of you guys like pro
wrestling fans at all? I'm not, no, no, you know,
you guys know what it is.

Speaker 3 (06:11):
We know it all right.

Speaker 2 (06:11):
So back in the YouTube days of like two thousand
and six, there used to be like compilations of like
the best wrestlers and it'd be like whatever song with
a disturbed stricken was the one. I was like, Okay,
this is cool. Yeah, and then that's what I got
me And it's cool. Like however you find your way
to wherever you find it.

Speaker 1 (06:25):
I think it's cool, you know, like no, no, no,
front trying to say, oh my first record was you
know something something silly? You know, it's like, yeah, you're
six or seven or eight or whatever. So yeah, it's
all it's all love. What's the pre show ritual for
you guys?

Speaker 4 (06:38):
We all just kind of hang out and that goofy
that's good and just like high five each other.

Speaker 1 (06:43):
We listened to Black Breath good the one that's actually
We listened to Black Breath and Pantera and like corn you.

Speaker 3 (06:51):
Guys, psy like yourself, just like super heavy.

Speaker 1 (06:53):
Shit, just like you know, quit the shit, hit the pit,
like by ourselves.

Speaker 3 (06:56):
But yeah, maybe maybe a drink, maybe you know, a
little chill.

Speaker 2 (06:58):
We just keep you chill. I mean, it's like ket
the lives of nothing crazy. What is the one thing
that you will never not take with.

Speaker 3 (07:06):
You for tour? Never not like I won't take it
with you or you will take it? Yeah, you won't
ever forget it's sorry, sorry shit. Probably my toothbrush, Yeah,
I mean, because you know what I mean, I got
my electric in my backup just in case. That's a
good call.

Speaker 1 (07:20):
Well if the electric runs out of electricity is just
just a regular one.

Speaker 2 (07:24):
But what if I like forget that, that's like losing
sure for sure, the thing that I never leave without, man,
I don't know, dude, I definitely.

Speaker 3 (07:31):
Bring my toothbrush. I mean, I don't want.

Speaker 1 (07:32):
To be funky. I'll go toothbrush too, bro, That that's it.
I mean, that's underwear for sure too. But the classic yeah, yeah,
the classics, Yeah, the stuff you need and yeah, I
didn't sleep last night, so definitely, like little herb is
important for me, you know, I mean, yeah.

Speaker 3 (07:47):
It's a little bit of smoke. So that's Joe.

Speaker 2 (07:49):
What is one piece of advice you would give up
and coming bands?

Speaker 4 (07:53):
And why don't ever stop you never know what's around
the corner and just keep writing.

Speaker 3 (07:58):
Don't never stop writing. Let this go fear like fuel you.
I love that. That's that's huge.

Speaker 1 (08:03):
It's a couple of things, you know, like yeah, you know,
perseverance and never quit and surround yourself with good people,
listen to your your compass on that you know, make
make good relationships and that and and to be honest
and follow your own ship.

Speaker 3 (08:18):
Don't try to be anybody else.

Speaker 1 (08:20):
I think we've been in music for a while and
we've gone through different phases of our you know, like, well,
let's try.

Speaker 3 (08:25):
This, let's try this.

Speaker 1 (08:26):
I think the best music, the best are the best
result is usually when you just do what you what
you actually love, what makes you happy first and then
you give it to.

Speaker 3 (08:34):
The world perfectly well set it.

Speaker 2 (08:36):
I ask a lot of bands this and you know,
new veterans whatever, and there's always different answers but there's
always something to take from you guys, so appreciate you
sharing that.

Speaker 3 (08:43):
Cool.

Speaker 2 (08:44):
What can fans expect of Dead? I mean we got
that new album of course, but like six beyond.

Speaker 4 (08:49):
Yeah, I mean look for us on tour. We'll be
out on tour spreading the good word the songs.

Speaker 3 (08:55):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (08:56):
Yeah. The new record has some sick features. Chad Gray
from Mudvan's on it, Chris Emotionless and White is on it,
Danny Liel from A Party Burning Body is on it.
Sick like awesome dudes that we love and we love
their music and it was awesome to have them.

Speaker 3 (09:06):
And then we're going on.

Speaker 1 (09:08):
Today at four to forty five, which won't matter actually
won't see this probably, but and then we're going on
the Black Mass tour within this moment, day Seekert and
the Funeral Portrait for the next.

Speaker 3 (09:15):
Like five weeks. Of Lee. I love Lee. Hell yeah,
he's awesome. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (09:19):
I met him at the only table here. That's like
that A lot of life here last year, okay, before
the hurricane. I can't wait to run to him again, right,
yeah Gray, I didn't get to meet him yet, but
maybe maybe today will sounds the best if someone was
new or you wanted to introduce someone new into Dead,
what was the song that you would introduce them with?

Speaker 3 (09:36):
And why? I don't know. Man.

Speaker 1 (09:41):
You know, if you're in the band, you want him
to hear everything. You know, the new album, front of the back,
you want to hear that. You gotta hear the whole thing.
He can't put it in one song, right. You can't
size anyone up and tell them, you know. It's like
going to the library. So you're you're we're all reading books,
so you're just their songs.

Speaker 4 (09:54):
Just check them out. If you like them, you like them.
If you don't, that's okay too.

Speaker 1 (09:57):
Yeah, you know, yeah, because sometimes like you go and
you listen to like the top song on streaming or whatever,
and that's the most popular song for whatever reason. But
there's a lot more, you know, a lot of times
the deeper cuts are maybe more interesting a lot of
times too. I'm not saying our top songs aren't cool,
but you know, listen, let's do a little bit, you know,
dive in a little bit.

Speaker 3 (10:14):
Two final questions.

Speaker 2 (10:16):
If let's see I had in lawsuit immediately it's all
cut that.

Speaker 3 (10:20):
Oh, we'll just what's the dream Dead tour? Why cool. Yeah,
they have to be active bands, right, Sure, Okay, there's
no rules. I'd have to think about that for a second.

Speaker 1 (10:31):
Sure, I got asked this the other day, so I
might just answer the same way that I did. And
they've been actually gonna add lot black I thought the
reunited we're talking about, uh now probably like probably like Deftones, Turnstyle,
black Bereath, dead headlining over everybody, yes now, but but yeah,
I would say like Deftones Turnstyle black Breath would be
sick for me, that'd be awesome.

Speaker 4 (10:52):
I don't have an answer for that. Every tour we've
done it's just been so great. So I don't know.
Every band we work with is just amazing.

Speaker 3 (10:59):
Itself around me. Can me to reinroute it? Yeah?

Speaker 2 (11:01):
Fun tour story, any tour from either of you have
both of you. I's gotta like stuck up on these
before we come to come to this. I never remember anything. Yeah,
I never remember, Like we talk about.

Speaker 4 (11:12):
Them when there's not a microphone around and we're like, oh,
that was hilarious.

Speaker 3 (11:15):
I remember when yeah, it goes away. I have like fun.

Speaker 1 (11:18):
It's all fun, dude, It's all it's all this adventure.
Were like, you know, you get to hang out with
people that you appreciate. There art and your own and
crazy things happen that you might think are terrible and
then it turns out to be fun or I mean,
whatever it is, you know, it doesn't matter. Like you
get through it and it's all just part of it
and you know it's all just fun. I mean, I
don't think anything crazy, don't know's you know, it's.

Speaker 3 (11:39):
All we can't think of it.

Speaker 2 (11:40):
As soon as the cameras off, you'd be like, oh yeah,
we'll come back in ten minutes. All right, that's all right.
Any final words you guys want to say to fans now, Big.

Speaker 1 (11:46):
Love, check out the new record, come to the tour,
Stoke to rip, Louder than Life.

Speaker 3 (11:50):
You got to cut the ship and start the pit.
There you go, There we go, guys. In Dad, they
got a new album out right now. It's called Resent.

Speaker 2 (11:56):
To check that out, check them out on tour, check
them out next year. In Black Breath, We're gonna you know, yeah,
we're gonna get you on. So yeah, anyways, we'll see
you guys next time.
