(00:00):
Hey guys, it's Kevin Fowl here. I'm back with another interview. I
(00:26):
came back from Incards from Rachi Fest. As you know, I talked to
Gavin from Bush, I talked toUncured. I have a lot more bands
I'm working on talking to because Ihad a blast at Incars Rati Fest and
these guys did too. We aretalking to Sid Stratton. How you guys
doing today? Pretty good? Happyto be here again. Thank you for
taking the time to interview us.Man, This is pretty cool. I
love talking to bands, love youknow, getting those connections out there.
(00:50):
Why don't you go around the room. Don't you introduce yourselves? So I'm
Sid Stratton, I'm rashes Lane,I'm Ryan McMillian, and what are you
guys doing? The band? Individually? So I'm the lead singer and bassist.
I do some backing vocals and thenthe go go dancing is my main
thing. Now I'm the guitar player. Okay, who are we missing today?
(01:14):
I don't want to leave him out, So we're missing Aaron Shook,
our drummer. He wanted to behere today, but he had some scheduling
conflicts and weren't able to get himon here, but he wishes He literally
texts like I'll be there in spirit. Man. I was like, no
worries, but he really wanted tobe here for it, and that's perfectly
fine. I just want to givehim a quick shout out, you know.
Didn't want to feel left out oranything like that. So you guys
(01:34):
played at the Reformatory stage at IncarcerationFest twenty twenty three. Run me through
that day, Run me through yourexperience, nerve wrecking. We were.
So it's very weird because we've onlybeen a band for a year and four
months. I counted it out,and so playing this like we've all been
in like bands before and done stuffbefore, but never like not you,
(01:57):
but you've been around music, soit's like never quite to this magnitude,
you know. And it was prettyawesome because like when we decided to do
this new style, this new versionof the band, we got a lot
of like pushback from promoters and othermusicians when trying to get it started because
they're like, oh, your actwon't work. The kind of music with
that style, that's not going togo anywhere, and so it's kind of
(02:21):
like a you know, look atme now kind of thing. With these
guys and it just goes to showlike you believe in something, you know
it'll take you places, and howdid you guys hop on in coorse ration
Fest? So we won a competitionon the Space Zebra Show. We had
a lot of fans come out votedfor us, and we beat out sixty
four other bands, so it waspretty It was pretty crazy, and we
(02:42):
were just like when we found allwe won, we like we were all
together. We were just like jumpingup and down, hugging each other,
like, oh my god, we'regoing to do it. So I'm still
like, I don't know, stilllike a dream because it happens. So
it was so much time leading upto it, and then it happened like
that, and I'm like, whoadid that just happen? All right?
So I want you guys to walkus through day of show. What's it
(03:04):
like? What's it like you rollup to the show and just the whole
day? What happened? We gotup pretty early, Um, I told
the big we're all hard getting upon time and getting where we need to.
So I told everybody we needed tobe there an hour before we actually
did, because I knew everyone wouldbe itself run in behind and it worked
and we all actually got there early, which was first time and early for
(03:30):
anything, so it was awesome. We had all the vands ready loaded to
go, We had our game planseverybody, we had our merch ready,
all of our music stuff. Wegot there, they let us in through
the artist's entry and then they kindof escorted us. They shuttled all of
our gear and merch, and thenthey came back and escorted us and bust
us through the bat gave us ourwristbands. It was really cool. Dan
(03:53):
the co founder for Incarustration, likehand delivered our passes to us, which
blew my mind just that whole they'recrew and staff and everything, just because
they're like top dogs and the factthat they've come to a band like us,
you know and just hand deliver likeyeah, all right, here you
go. And I was like, that's their character, Like those actions speak
so loud of their character, andjust they treated us so good. And
(04:15):
then from there it was just gettingset up. The way we run are
like our rigging in our system alot of like the local venues we play
at, they you know, it'sit's kind of it seems a little harder
for a lot of them to workwith because they're not used to it.
But when I told the stage,I was like, hey, this is
what they're doing we do They're like, yeah, that's that's easy. That's
(04:38):
pretty standard for pro bands. Sofor them to like not give us,
you know, to be like, yeah, that's so accommodating, Like yeah,
that's super easy because usually we getreally nervous, like hey, this
is how we run our system, and we'll get some people like ah,
that's annoying. It's like it's likeit's not really I was talking to Ryan
Wing for our interview and they rana real tight ship there, which is
(05:01):
not a bad thing because again,if you do it the other way around,
where everything's like good luck, it'sa nightmare. So, you know,
me being there for media, youknow, I got to talk with
security, I got to meet alot of people. It was very professional,
just all across the board. Sothat kind of stuff we can really
appreciate. So I agree with you, and it was just honestly like whatever.
(05:26):
It was like, had anxiety aboutasking, you know, and I'm
like, you know, I gottaraise my hand because I don't want something
to go wrong. They're like, yeah, that's no problem, man,
we got you. No matter whetherit was merchandise, sound wrist band,
security, shuttles, at interview, like anybody, everyone was like, yeah,
we got you man. Even cateringit was just crazy because we're like,
we don't want to bug because anyone, but they're like, yeah,
(05:47):
we're here for talk to us.And it was just just seeing something that
massive runs so smoothly and professionally andtight was so cool. I loved it.
Honestly, I'm just disagree with allthat it's it was just awesome and
it was really refreshing to be onsomething run so tight like that. I
was just like, oh, cool, awesome, and I didn't have to
(06:09):
worry about any of that. Likeeven getting up to the performance was fine.
It was Honestly, the most nerveracking part is getting there. But
once you're there, you're like,oh, it's actually like this, I
can work with that. That's awesome. Yeah. Absolutely. Not a lot
of people know what it's like to, you know, play a big festival
(06:30):
like this or be around a bigfestival like this, and how things can
go wrong, and that is partof the nerves that we have to face
sometimes when we're rolling up to ashow, it's like we got our stuff
that these guys have their stuff ready, and you know, sometimes they don't,
but these guys definitely did. Iwas like picturing in my mind.
We went and saw nine Ish Nailsat Rockville and like everybody's worst nightmares,
(06:51):
Like you get up there and eitheryour backing tracks or all your electronics like
just crap out of it. Andit happened to them. And I'm trying
resident going like you ever had thatnightmare where you you go to school without
your pants on? This is itfor me. And like so the whole
time, I had that going throughmy head, like, oh man,
I hope we're backing tracks. Don'tcrap out because we had that happened that
shows before and you can, youknow, we can play, but it's
(07:14):
just like you're missing the synths andeverything. So we're like, okay,
you know, let's hopefully everything goesgoes according to plan. Everything did,
and I was like wow, andthe crowd was incredible to just the energy
and the crowd was something else andlooking at the prison while yeah perform,
Yeah one of those songs I getto sing lead on, and I kept
(07:41):
catching myself looking up at like thebeautiful architecture of the prison while I was
singing, and I was like, because this is so cool. Yeah it
was, Yeah, it was definitelyjust awesome. There's a moment where I
felt kind of like like a Jedior a sythport because I gave somebody like
the devil horns, and a wholesection of the crowd gave me devil horns
(08:01):
back, and then I moved myhand and as I did, it was
like a wave of devil horns andI was like, whoa. Just small
things like that were really cool.Or like ply through our picks. People
were jumping on stage to grab ourpicks because they wanted more of them and
stuff, and I was like,WHOA, what is happening? It were
really nice. Yeah, so youguys definitely gained some fans over the incarceration.
(08:22):
Oh yeah, every day we getmore and more because I know,
service out there was really bad andpeople were trying to follow us and so
they would like write it down intheir notes on their iPhone or whatever.
And then as the week's gone on, we're getting more and more and more
followers. That's been pretty awesome too. Plenty of people at Incarceration Fest.
(08:43):
If you went, I want toknow what your favorite band was at Incarceration
Fest, but you have to agreeit was hot and there were a lot
of people. Did you guys gothrough the prison tour by accident? The
first time? Us US three andthen one of our other Go Go dancers,
jadab Las, we wanted to gosee the tattoos. And it's towards
the end of the night, whileeverything was kind of like before it started
(09:07):
to shut down, and there wasanother band in front of us asking a
question, and so as we're goingup, we're like, hey, can
we just check out? We thoughtit was a tattoo line. They're like,
you guys want of the bands. We're like yeah, They're like all
right, come with us. Sowe're like cool, going to see the
tattoos. And it was one ofthe private band tours where they give you
a guide and they take you behindthe scenes and everything, and like they
had like a like a Halloween HorrorNights thing going on, but I guess
(09:28):
they also had like an actual Hauntedtour, and so they took us on
the Haunted tour and put us inthis dark room and we had this like
paranormal experience that was really cool andturn off all the lights in the attic.
Yeah, so it was Yeah,it was I mean you remember Ryan
it will Yeah, it was intense. Yeah, We're all like cool.
And then we sat down and wewere all just frozen. Well, and
(09:52):
I love this part where the tourguide was like, all right, you
guys want to do this. He'slike, you can, guys say yes
or no. He's like, soI'm gonna turn the lights off. We're
gonna hear on one end. Sometimesthis happens a lot of times it doesn't,
but you could experience something and everyonewant to say anything. I was
like, yeah, let's do it, and everyone like looked at me like
why did you say yes, let'sdo it? And I'm sitting there like
come on, let's go. Andhe's like all right, and everyone,
(10:13):
I think, was a little annoyedthat I was like, no, very
scared. Yeah, yeah, no, they weren't annoyed. Certainly were annoying.
Everyone's like, this guy's gonna getus possessed. So incarceration has come
and gone. What is coming upfor the rest of twenty twenty three or
just what's coming up next? Ingeneral? For sid Stretton. Oh,
let's see, we got a festivaland Port Orange we were playing a horror
(10:39):
convention. Um, this is gonnabe our second year doing Phantasm and they
booked us for two nights. Wehave so much we're trying to get.
We do these things called rock androll ritual usually down in Miami, and
last two years we've done back toback sold out nights at this venue where
we're gonna have a little guest, our cat, other cat. We got
four cats. This is normally oneof the white ones. But he's like,
(11:01):
hey, what's what's going on?But mister dude, yeah, and
uh, it's where we are.Our full show at in cars Ratition.
People got to see kind of likea demo of it. But our our
full show is we have a burlesqueroutine to every song we do. So
when we do these rock and rollrituals, it's two nights of that.
(11:22):
There's like pole dancing, fire dancing, belly dancing, classic burless scarial arts.
It's pretty it's pretty intense, andso we want to eventually take that
on the road, but we're gonnatry to do one towards November. I
think we're looking November this year.Yeah, so we're we're trying to get
that put together. And then wegot a new album we're trying to have
come out. It's either going tobe sometime between November and February, depending
(11:46):
on how post production goes. Um, so that'll be fun too. And
yeah, that's a lot of musicvideos we're getting ready to shoot too,
So we're yeah, trying to staybusy. But it's always better to be
busy than ward, I feel,so. Any words, so you want
to say to fans or any wordsyou want to say to those new fans
you gathered from the Incarceration festival.Yeah, yeah, I just want to
(12:07):
say thank you to everybody, becauseit was really cool just walking around and
joining the bands and people coming upto us and saying how much and expressing
how much they loved our music inour show and all the messages we're getting.
We can't thank everyone enough and everyonewho loved the music. I hope
you guys like the new album comingout. It's a it's it's pretty great.
(12:30):
I like it a lot. I'vebeen having fun. We actually weren't
going to put out an album, and then we got book for Incarceration and
then it was like, we're doingbig festival, let's get an album ready
for afterwards. So yeah, kindof turned out like that. So it's
been fun to spark the fire, yes, big time, because we had
a bunch of singles, like likefour singles and we're like just gonna release
(12:50):
them over time, and then itwas like, oh, let's just do
a whole album and put that out. So to the new fans, glad
you're here, keep sticking with usbecause we've got some cool, cool stuff
coming. Everyone said Stretton, thankyou so much for joining me on this
interview today. I do appreciate youtaking a minute out of your time your
afternoon. I'd love talking to bandsand I hope you have as much fun
