Speaker 1 (00:00):
And we're back with the Kevin Powell Podcast.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
You have been and We'll always be listening to the
Kevin Powell Poscat Podcast.
Speaker 3 (00:12):
Hello again, it's been back to back to back interviews
about tell you well.
Speaker 1 (00:15):
I love it. I love doing this. This is so fun.
Who are here with today? This is the Koda.
Speaker 4 (00:19):
I'm Georgia you forgot his name, and I'm Bob.
Speaker 1 (00:22):
As you can see, I'm should be in We're in
silent theory. It's a silent theory. How's it feel to
be an incarceration twenty twenty five?
Speaker 5 (00:29):
It feels amazing. It feels almost better than twenty twenty one. Okay,
what I don't know. This was a bit more of
an energetic thing for us. I think something changed since
I will.
Speaker 2 (00:39):
Say twenty twenty one was a weird cube because that
was like one of the first big outings that people
have outside of like COVID. Yeah, so like there's a
lot of excitement, but also the people so wearing masks outside. Yeah,
it was like it's not quite here. Nobody knew what
to expect. But I mean a data remember fucking killed
it and mud Vade made their comeback show that year. Yeah, dude,
it was a great, great event. We're but this was
(01:01):
a lot of fun. It was great energy, great yeah,
like people are really into it.
Speaker 3 (01:04):
No fun fact about Mudbane. They're the first band I
ever watched live, like back in two thousand and eight.
Like I've seen like local shows the VMW halls, you
know that fun stuff, but them snot ten years It
was cool. It snot played here a little bit ago.
Speaker 4 (01:18):
When he was still doing the clown outfit right.
Speaker 1 (01:21):
Yes, and he had the I'm not the only one, yes, I.
Speaker 2 (01:24):
Unfortunately, like I had to give my ticket up because
I couldn't make it to the show. But Scott and
Mitch you aren't pictured here. We're at the show at
Seattle in Spokane. Rather they went up and saw that show.
Speaker 3 (01:34):
That's awesome. Wow small world, huh. So with that being said,
I mean it's a big difference too. We had a
big new layout change, and I'll be honest. I talked
to Dan Jansen early today and he loves it.
Speaker 1 (01:46):
I love it.
Speaker 3 (01:46):
I love the new layout, especially if you were in
VIP sitting in that big lounge and looking at both
those stages. One, if you can get a seat, good
for you. Two keep it. Three that's a really good sight.
That's like, yeah, perfect, Oh my god, it was amazing.
Speaker 1 (02:00):
It was amazing. I think.
Speaker 5 (02:02):
Isn't the spot we were in where they had the
second stage last year and then they put the second
stage up next to the main stage this year. Is
this the first time they've done that layup first time?
Speaker 1 (02:09):
First time? That's what I thought too.
Speaker 2 (02:10):
Yeah, but it is kind of nice because to your point,
especially with VIP, when we played twenty twenty one, VIP
split stages one to two and so people had to
kind of go out and a round and stuff, and
so it's kind.
Speaker 4 (02:21):
Of nice that it's a little more it's the fluidity
is a lot nicer for fans.
Speaker 1 (02:26):
So I just mentioned Dan Jansen. He says he's always
listening to feedback.
Speaker 3 (02:31):
What's your favorite what's your favorite part about playing Incarceration
this year and why?
Speaker 5 (02:35):
But my favorite thing about playing Incarceration, and if I
can make an extension to all DWP, is just how
on the ball everybody is with their changeover times, how
quickly they are, and how friendly everybody is to every band.
Speaker 1 (02:46):
That's what's right.
Speaker 2 (02:46):
I will say, the hospitality of these festivals, it's unlike
anything else.
Speaker 4 (02:50):
But Yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:50):
The stage crews are unbelievable. They are working so hard.
Speaker 1 (02:53):
And then the five of the prison.
Speaker 3 (02:55):
Yes, a tattoo expo, the prison tours. I mean we're
standing in front of the prison. It's kind of a
cool back show up. I think it is. So after
what's coming up next? I mean you just did inc Yep,
what's next?
Speaker 5 (03:05):
We're going on door. We're continuing our tour right now.
I think we go to South Dakota. Is that our
next time?
Speaker 6 (03:09):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (03:09):
We d a couple of travel days and then South Dakota's.
Speaker 5 (03:11):
Like South Dakota, Castle, Wyoming, Montana, and then we hit
Washington to finished that.
Speaker 4 (03:14):
We're kind of around in the corner now and we're
heading back home.
Speaker 1 (03:17):
Sold out in our home all right, we's home base.
Speaker 5 (03:19):
Well we're from Moscow, but our kind of home based
like plays like Spokane.
Speaker 3 (03:23):
Okay, what's the biggest difference between there and here and what?
Other than corn.
Speaker 7 (03:28):
The scene the scene where we're not a huge metal scene.
We're Idaho, so a lot of country in the middle
of a college town, so you know, a lot of
the new and stuff not super metal, and so coming
out here where you got nothing but metal heads, metal fans,
it's cool to be in this kind of environment because
we don't live near it, so we like traveling tools.
Speaker 1 (03:45):
Can you believe?
Speaker 3 (03:46):
So I think about so we mentioned dwpfs. They're big,
everyone knows coming to them. It's a well run oil machine.
Had this conversation basically every interview, no matter what, because
it's true.
Speaker 1 (03:55):
People fly out to this. It's like when I'm in.
Speaker 3 (03:58):
The incarceration Facebook grew, but I like see same Yeah,
so you know the fund so yeah yeah. So with that,
people were like, yeah, I'm all away from Texas, I'm
all my way from coul What that's crazy.
Speaker 1 (04:08):
I know it's crazy.
Speaker 5 (04:10):
I think it's because you just you don't get as
many of these festivals over on the West Coast. I
mean you get a few. Aftershock is absolutely phenomenal. But
it's like when you come to like the Midwest, this
is where metal comes to live and kind of from
metal comes to diet, Like this is the place where
that this is the place where it happens man, and
so I get it, like people will come from like
the corners of the country to come to the middle
of our or like Midwest Bible Belt, Ohio, Kansas, Michigan.
Speaker 3 (04:33):
Now, I will say people probably flew from other countries too,
because we did Loud in Life and I can't a Slayer,
for example, they got canceled out because the hurricane, but
people flew out from overseas to see Slayer.
Speaker 1 (04:44):
Sorry that didn't happen.
Speaker 3 (04:45):
But Marilyn Manson's playing Slippon ONLL has one of their
only I think it's the only US show.
Speaker 1 (04:50):
So I can only imagine.
Speaker 3 (04:51):
Yeah, yeah, I can only imagine how many people flew
out specifically for this.
Speaker 1 (04:55):
Now.
Speaker 3 (04:55):
The media area is busier today, It's like double than yesterday.
Speaker 6 (04:59):
I CA.
Speaker 3 (05:01):
I can only imagine. That's why we're back here in
the corner. I can only imagine the amount of people now.
I mean again, we're in that Facebook group. You've seen
all the complaints. Yesterday it was about like the.
Speaker 5 (05:10):
Flow of like the main stage just wasn't people were moving,
they were anchoring themselves down and they weren't leaving. So
I was like, if you wanted to go see somebody
else at infirmary and you wanted to come back to Maine, sorry.
Speaker 1 (05:20):
Your spot was probably taken.
Speaker 3 (05:21):
It as a thing, like a lot of people's first
festivals are probably this and that's fine.
Speaker 1 (05:26):
This is like great first festivals, Danny Wimmer.
Speaker 3 (05:29):
In general, that'd be a great first festival, Like this
is my first Mudbane show. I mean that'd be hell yeah, right,
got yet, but yeah, you gotta be a little courteous.
So like, this is not your festival, it's everybody's. Oh
for sure, Absolutely, this is for everyone. This is why
everybody's given limited set times. It's like you get thirty
minutes of like a sample from every one of these bands,
so that if you do like one of these bands, you'll.
Speaker 5 (05:48):
Go catch them out when they come on tour and
when they go to your town. That's what these are for.
These are like they're like expos for all these bands
that give a chance to show who they are to
everybody who might not have seen them.
Speaker 1 (05:57):
Danny.
Speaker 3 (05:57):
This guy is speaking the reason I get him on
all the ads, all the commercials.
Speaker 1 (06:03):
So what's coming up next for you guys? What's coming
out for George?
Speaker 3 (06:06):
Go ahead?
Speaker 2 (06:07):
So we are, like Dakota said, we're currently in the
middle of a tour. We got some new music that
we've kind of been working on here and there, but
we're also looking at trying to finalize some tour day.
It's for the fall, probably hitting some markets that we
haven't hit some like down South and like East Coast
and stuff like that. So I mean, definitely stay tuned
for that if you're interested in Silent Theory, because we're
(06:28):
we're trying to hit.
Speaker 4 (06:28):
The place that we haven't been yet.
Speaker 3 (06:30):
If you like us, people like you, come on. If
you like us, come see us. Now here's a fun one.
I have never asked this yet. It has popped in
my head. There's so many theory bands this weekend. What's
with all these theories? I would like to say. For
the record, Bob is always going to say this.
Speaker 2 (06:46):
We played our first show with Silent Theory in November
of two thousand and nine, and at the time there
was rep Theory and Theory of a Dead Man, and
I don't think.
Speaker 5 (06:53):
They're even a mash count. They start with the word theory.
Oh yeah, it accounts if your band ends with the
word theory. And I'm going to stand on the advocation too,
let's do a theory festivals.
Speaker 1 (07:03):
I'm gonna say that there's.
Speaker 4 (07:04):
A lot of eys just coming out on all of them.
Speaker 3 (07:06):
I was gonna say, let's do a theory tour. But
you're going, you're going beyond. That's a little there's so many, dude,
I hate to.
Speaker 5 (07:12):
Say, there's like tennant to friends with acause what for
you guys thinking it was shitty when we chows?
Speaker 4 (07:19):
If I find out they're cool, then I'm gonna struggle when.
Speaker 1 (07:21):
They're cool, I just want to hate them so much. See,
here's what you gotta do. You gotta do a supergroup
and it's just called theory.
Speaker 5 (07:27):
Oh my god, there's like thirty people, like fifteen singers
from all the different theories.
Speaker 1 (07:32):
Yes, every theory would.
Speaker 4 (07:33):
Be maybe in like fifteen years when we're genuinely like
Jerry Atrick.
Speaker 5 (07:36):
When music starts to move that way, I can only
play like three songs at that time that I got
about all right.
Speaker 3 (07:41):
So, if you guys had to give any advice to
bands or maybe just starting out, maybe want to get
onto a big festival, want to see their way and
success maybe anything like that, what would you give and
one I've.
Speaker 2 (07:51):
Got one, but you go for But okay, I was
gonna say the advice I always give to younger bands
is like you got to grind it, like it. There's
a lot of really really shitty stuff that's gonna happen.
Apologize for swearing. If that's not good day, say whatever.
You So there's a lot of shitty stuff that and
a lot of crappy people that you're gonna like encounter.
Just keep powering through, play those local shows and stuff
like that. But also as you get bigger, things start
(08:13):
getting bigger. It's called a music business for a reason,
Like there's a real business aspect to it.
Speaker 4 (08:19):
But try not to lose sight of the fact of
why you started playing music.
Speaker 1 (08:23):
Totally.
Speaker 4 (08:23):
It's fun.
Speaker 2 (08:24):
It's fun getting on stage with your friends and playing
for people that you may or may not know, and
like it's supposed to be fun. But like there is
some hard Like there's definitely hard time to make it
hard to do that, but like just keep that in mind.
Speaker 1 (08:36):
Yeah, discouragement is probably it's probably a big part of that.
Speaker 7 (08:40):
Yeah, And I guess the other thing is it's just
like you know, in other talking to other bands here,
keep your community, you know, like you're not against other people.
You're doing better or worse you add them, don't crap
peo people can people can like multiple bands and that.
Speaker 1 (08:53):
Don't do it. The Pretty Wild did it? Yeah, Yeah,
I've been looking at it too. I'm like, it's take
one step forward maybe, And I guess that's my biggest.
Speaker 7 (09:01):
Thing is like nobody's nobody's competing with each other. If
you like music and it's you know, matches somebody else's,
they're gonna like yours two.
Speaker 5 (09:08):
You know, Yeah, my existence doesn't mean your existence is
now faulty, Like there's no reason for us not to
exist in the same spot.
Speaker 1 (09:14):
Man, that's awesome, But.
Speaker 5 (09:15):
I would say one more thing, just to piggyback on
both of what they say. Hey, in the fucking game, Like,
staying in the game is the most important part because
you're gonna get discouraged, it's gonna suck, and then you're
gonna be talking to each other about maybe we should
break up, maybe we shouldn't do this anymore, nobody likes us.
Speaker 1 (09:28):
That's when you stay. That's when you keep going. That's
when you write new music. That's when you keep on.
Speaker 5 (09:32):
And then one day you're playing incarceration, and then you
play incarceration like, yes, there's this thing called an ebb
and flow where it goes like this, exactly what you said,
that's down here.
Speaker 1 (09:40):
You gotta keep going. You gotta climb that mountain, and
what do.
Speaker 5 (09:43):
You know, even when you get up there, you're still
gonna get discouragement. Like even when you're at the biggest ship,
there's gonna be people that are like, yeah, fuck you
go away, Like there's gonna be times where you're not
the biggest fish in the pond like you were.
Speaker 1 (09:54):
Right now, we're rubbing shoulders with a lot of people
that we should probably not.
Speaker 5 (09:58):
Be rubbing shoulders, but but they're and we're starting to
catch up and that feels really good and we're all
pierced today.
Speaker 1 (10:03):
Ye, that's what's most important.
Speaker 2 (10:05):
And kind of on the joy aspect, I will say
joy touring and all this other stuff is like highly stressful,
especially when you're touring in the early days of small
vehicles and stuff like that. It's really hard to spend
that much time in a close quarter certain people. So
what we've done, and I suggest any band out there
do this. We've developed a bingo game within the band
of things that happen every day on tour or just
(10:28):
random stuff that we expect to happen, and so like
it's and some of it's funny, some of it's stuff
that normally would upset us.
Speaker 1 (10:35):
But now it's one of those like Bingo's quare noh shit.
For example, I'm very forgetful.
Speaker 5 (10:40):
Notoriously yesterday at the salad It's got food bar, I
tried to put food on a plate I hadn't picked
up yet, So that was a Bingo sware for Dakota.
Speaker 1 (10:48):
Forgot something amazing. All right, there were dead man. I
appreciate you, guys.
Speaker 6 (10:53):
God, I'll take it. Tyler is a very good start.
Ridy for the super Groove theory. Come in twenty forty five.
We'll see these guys here in a little bit. They
got any music on the way, they just played inc
Thanks for checking this out.
Speaker 1 (11:05):
We'll see you next time.
