On this episode of The Kevin Powell Podcast, I chat with vocalist Alex Terrible and guitar player Jack Simmons of Slaughter to Prevail! We discuss how their newest album 'Grizzly' feels more like a "collection of songs" than a regular album, admiration for the band's fans and more.

Speaker 1 (00:21):
Hey guys, welcome back to the rivers of the Kevin
pell Podcast. I'm coming do my here with them, here
with slaughter prevail. I got all kinds of bands throughout
the weekend. We're on day two of incarceration. How do
you guys feel? I feel amazing, just my nose blogged.
But so I have the flu and the flu. No,
that's all right, because you guys are advertising the America's
biggest wall of death. Tell me about that. Uh, we

(00:43):
we're gonna try to do that.

Speaker 3 (00:45):
We're gonna try actually to dupble wolve does because there
in the center.

Speaker 1 (00:51):
Yes, so I kind of don't like that.

Speaker 3 (00:54):
And we have like two like filled the left side
of the right side. So I will tell people, like,
make all of this on the right side on the
left side as well.

Speaker 1 (01:03):
There we go. Okay, Yeah, so what sparked the idea
from you know, let's make incarceration our biggest wall of death.

Speaker 3 (01:11):
Yeah, we just love wall of death, that's it. And
to be honest, we love incarceration. Oh yeah, it feels.

Speaker 4 (01:17):
Like Home of the US festivals were done.

Speaker 1 (01:20):
You know, Brookfield was.

Speaker 4 (01:21):
An amazing crowd of easy crowd, but Incarceration from the
first time we did it was just spoken to the wise.

Speaker 1 (01:27):
Even being back here, it was amazing.

Speaker 4 (01:29):
This is yesterday Wednesday with running Yeah, and you know it's.

Speaker 1 (01:35):
Just been awesome.

Speaker 4 (01:36):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:36):
I just love this wipe and I love and I
feel people just waiting for us, you know, I feel
the senergy. And last time we played in conserration was
the first time I like opened my forehead with the microphone.
I remember, and wral I was like fucking Google. So
it just takes a special spot in my hut.

Speaker 1 (01:57):
Now, you got a topic this year in with you
got to talk, but this year I skip that. I'm
just kidding. Biggest wall of death We're gonna have to Actually,
we're gonna have four. We're gonna have four wall of
deaths for Slaughder Prevail. It's gonna be sweet. I'm sure
you guys have seen all the slaughter of prevail t
shirts walking around and all that stuff, so people are
definitely excited to see him this one. I love this one.

Speaker 3 (02:17):
I hate I hate out merch in general, but this
it's a cool one.

Speaker 1 (02:21):
It's just fits me.

Speaker 4 (02:22):
You know.

Speaker 1 (02:23):
It's me and my camera guy who were merch snobs.
So I gotta say, you guys have some hard merch
on who q up? Because you feel you stitch it yourself?
No kidding, actually croucheted overnight. It's one of one. Okay,
So we got the new album that just came out, Grizzly,
tell me about that ship? Where are we? Where do

(02:45):
we begin? All right? So one I gotta ask this,
did you guys plan to drop it before you knew
about playing Incarceration or it just happened that way? Surround them,
just around. It's also the best opportunity ever. Yeah. Actually,
it's like you.

Speaker 4 (02:57):
Know, even like with the World of Death Switch everything
lined up. Yeah, perfect.

Speaker 1 (03:03):
Yeah, I love this album.

Speaker 3 (03:04):
Actually, we put our souls and put so much effort
and time in this album because before that we always
been in rush. We've always been in rush, and we
have this fucking deadlines and all this Ship. But for
this album, we just sit and fucking do whatever we
want with the tracks and we just I don't know.
I'm just happy we did this ship and for the

(03:25):
next album it's gonna be much much different. So I'm
glad we we have this fucking timeline for for this Grizzly,
for this grizzle.

Speaker 1 (03:34):
So it was like no pressure. You guys got kind
to do well you want it, Yeah, you gotta take
your time.

Speaker 3 (03:39):
I mean, we never had the pressure about what we're
gonna do with the music, but.

Speaker 1 (03:44):
We have like deadlines every time, you know.

Speaker 4 (03:48):
And I think for Grizzly, it's less of an album
and it's more of a collection of songs that you
know from the start, it's from nineteen.

Speaker 1 (03:57):
To eighty four. This was obviously yeah, twenty twenty two,
when Alex moved to America.

Speaker 4 (04:02):
It's almost like the rest of the Pantic, you know,
this process of time but into the album, so you
could hear us go through melodic things stuff road Enough
about missing home and all this stuff. You know, Yeah,
ballots basically lip that ship about hitting the chip.

Speaker 1 (04:17):
So it's like an album, you.

Speaker 4 (04:20):
Know, it's collection of songs that each one represents pretty
moods of the timeline.

Speaker 1 (04:24):
Yeah, yeah, I mean that's definitely a different mentality than most,
you know, albums that come out, so definitely no pressure,
get to do what you want. I love that. We
got to listen to some of it on the way
here yesterday. So thanks for album. Leave good track. I
gotta say song three really, oh yeah, you were right
for that one, were you? I don't know. I like production.

(04:46):
I like weird collapse and saying, you know, collabing with
baby metal.

Speaker 3 (04:51):
Back in the days, I was like, you know, this
is fucking creach, This is stupid, blah blah blah.

Speaker 1 (04:56):
Where's the real death metal? And all this shit right now?
Is I grew up and I was like, this is
fucking sick. Yeah, you know, fuck that. I can't remember
who I interviewed yesterday, but they were talking about if
your newest album is not your favorite album, they're doing
something wrong. And I love seeing the excitement from you
guys about this. They're like, hell yeah, production is great.
I love the collapse. I love that came out during incarceration.

(05:19):
Better time to listen to it, and you guys go
on later today, So I'm excited to see you, hopefully
from the side, stooge. It's gonna be a hot one.
It's not gonna be rainy like it was day.

Speaker 4 (05:27):
We let you recommend watch you from the front because
we have auction.

Speaker 1 (05:32):
We've not actually have a dumb before.

Speaker 3 (05:33):
Okay, with debuting as well, it's still gonna be crazy,
that crazy, but just abouts have done it.

Speaker 1 (05:40):
But we've just never all right, So I got a
little tease at stage. You want to be able to
see the magic problem, I'll do a little bit on,
a little bit off. How's that good trade? Okay? So
I want to know you know, I've been a fan
since the old Hate EP. I love that one. Let's
talk about the evolution of sound here, Yeah, what's going in?
I mean, if you had to go back in time
and talk to Alex you know YouTube days, right, what

(06:01):
would you tell him back then? Don't do fucking stupid shit.
It's like, what rest over, don't put.

Speaker 3 (06:07):
Your mouth, dude, don't fucking open your mouth.

Speaker 1 (06:10):
Just fucking talking about music, that's it? Please, Okay, okay, fair,
But anyway, to.

Speaker 3 (06:16):
Be honest, I would say, don't change anything, just be yourself,
do whatever your heart tells you to do, and just
fucking stay focused and be the better version of yourself
each fucking day.

Speaker 1 (06:31):
You know, don't.

Speaker 3 (06:32):
Compete with anybody, don't don't fucking do any bullshit, but
fucking try to do your best in anything.

Speaker 1 (06:41):
Is any expect of your life. See he's not so scary.
He's got a big heart. Yeah, I mean, of course
people know that. Of course I have that. Any final
words you guys want to say to fans, fucking get kidding.
I was just kidding about the big heart. No, actually, I.

Speaker 3 (06:58):
Really believe that without fans, we're fucking nothing. So basically
every time we perform on the stage, I'm saying thank
you guys to have this fucking opportunity because I believe
in my best fucking life because our fucking fans and
this fact.

Speaker 1 (07:14):
It's the truth. So thank you guys very much. Yes, same,
Just thank you to the fans. Uh this album, Listen
to it.

Speaker 4 (07:22):
Enjoy it, you know, give it a fucking show.

Speaker 3 (07:26):
We're gonna read all of your comments, and I really
want to understand if if people really love our new album,
so we're gonna.

Speaker 1 (07:35):
Decide what is next, you know, because.

Speaker 3 (07:38):
If people want to uh, well heavy stuff, assump ship.
I will listen to people and try to make that
because we make it music not just for ourselves but
for our fans as well.

Speaker 1 (07:49):
